Health and fitness experts are exhorting us to incorporate weight training into our fitness programs--it's especially important for women for building bone density, but the truth is that working with weights increases your metabolism (are you listening? this means more fat-burning) all day. As with the cardio workout, Smith has designed two 20-minute workouts; on hectic days, doing the first alone is plenty, and on other days doing both programs will combine to help you see fast results. The movements are basic (including the all-important single-arm rows, key to building back muscles and keeping posture correct), and the delivery inviting and completely unintimidating. If you've been thinking of beginning a weight program, this (and a couple of sets of inexpensive hand weights) is really all you need to get started. Smith and crew will leave you pumped. --Anne Hurley ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Workout with Terrific Results
I love this tape. I got it about six months ago and have been doing it about twice a week and I couldn't be happier with the results. This tape will get your arms and legs in terrific shape (the ab program is a little too short for me, frankly) if you do it faithfully, and the tape is so enjoyable, that it's easy to do faithfully. As she points out in the video, building muscle helps you lose weight, and this video will help you reach your goal. As other reviewers have stated, she offers two tracks, complete with guidance as to who should do what when, and recommends beginning weights. Her direction is terrific and the tape really flows. She's energetic, without being overly peppy (as I find her in some other videos). Unlike a lot of other tapes, you don't waste time listening to instruction, you are working out for the entire 40 minutes. Kathy Smith has split the tape into two 20 minute workouts (upper and lower body) which is really helpful when you've got limited time to workout.

Bottom line, Kathy Smith has designed a terrific workout tape that is easy to stick with and will give you the results you want.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for all over body toning
This is my favorite video. In the past I have used Kathy's Functionally Fit-Lower Body Firming tape and found that to be very effective, but had to do other tapes for arms, abs, etc. This tape combines 3 complete workouts: 1 for your upper body and arms, 1 for your lower body, and 1 for your abs. Each exercise is just long enough so that you feel the burn, but don't have to quit early. The entire tape (all 3 workouts) takes just under an hour, but you can split it up if you feel like only working certain parts. The upper and lower body workouts also have 2 tracks - using heavier weights, or lighter weights and more repetitions which makes for a nice change of pace. Kathy whoops and yells a little more than in her other videos, but the workout is good enough that I just ignore it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Results!
This workout is great. I have been using it for over a year and I love the results. I have recommended it to friends and they love it too. I too was a lightweight- I began this workout using 2 and 3 lb weights. You have to gradually work up to heavier weights. I now use 8lbs for most of the exercises in the upper body workout. I love Kathy's style- I do not think she is annoying. She is just trying to keep you motivated! At least she is not fake like other instructors- she is herself. Take it or leave it. I would take it though- since she must be doing something right (just look at her). If you are a beginner, make sure you have your weights ready to go, because it will seem fast at the beginning. After a few times though, you will get the hang of it. Results don't come easily. It will hurt. Your arms will feel like wet noodles afterwards (will hurt to lift an apple), but that means it is working! Do not be intimidated if you are a beginner- trust me- I had never lifted a weight in my life until I began this video. I prefer using a weight bench (40 bucks for a decent one at walmart) because there are certain exercises that are difficult to get good form on without a bench. Remember progress takes time! I also LOVE her step aerobic workout tape called Fat Burning Breakthrough, which combines step aerobics with upper body weights. Whew! It will do a number on you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast Paced, It Works; Go Easy If You're a Beginner!
I exercise regularly, mainly Body Electric, Yoga, & Pilates. I wanted to "rev" up my workouts by adding aerobics (I'm waiting for K.S.'s aerobic tapes) & fat burning weight routines. In other words, I needed to "mix up" & add variety to my workouts. This tape really does it. While yes, she does go a bit fast, & there's intro that one will eventually skip, if one has the patience to "work into" the routine, you'll catch on, adjust the levels, and end up doing a fantastic workout that will keep your workouts fresh & have your muscles thanking you! I agree that a "bench" in not really needed for some routines, but this is a slickly produced product that gets the job done. Again, this is fast-paced & there really is not "warm up" involved. I would suggest a bit of stretching before "jumping" into the routine, or "warm up" during her intro. Also, as one becomes familiar with the routines, one can (and should) have all the necessary equiptment ready, because this routine goes quickly. Beginners, go easy & split the routines; die hards, do both routines in one session unless time is a problem. If that's the case, alternate routines & work to the max!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kathy smith- timesaver-lift weights to lose weight
I am in good shape but wanted a quick workout with weights to increase metabolism. I love this video. I use it daily. Upper one day and lower body the next. I am 34 and I use the exercise bike daily too. I have noticed firmer and more toned muscles and am excited about them finally showing up. I didn't enjoy Kathy's second volume. I went back to this one immeditately. ... Read more

Weight training is quickly becoming the workout of choice for men andwomen alike. These regimens incorporate resistance exercises that can increase bone density and metabolism while creating more lean muscle. Tracy York's Shaping Up with Weights for Dummies will introduce these fundamental strength training exercises in language that even a first-time weightlifter will understand. York debunks fitness myths, describes muscle groups, and focuses on the safe execution of each exercise. All of the major muscle groups are trained through 12 basic exercises that are cleverly coined "The Daily Dozen." A series of upper- and lower-body exercises are done in two sets of 12, with stretching spliced between each interval. York makes great use of these stretching segments to emphasize body alignment and proper form (however, these breaks may provide too much down time for the experienced fitness buff). This session delivers a four-minute warm-up, 35 minutes of resistance training (stretches, too), and five minutes of abdominal work. Light hand weights are recommended, but the first-time strength trainer may want to try this format without any weights. Overall this is a stellar pick if you are new to weightlifting, not familiar with muscle groups, or just need to brush up on the basics. Although the music is less than toe-tapping, this information-packed video will leave you anything but dumb.--Olivia Voigts ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent program for beginners
This video is an excellent guide to beginning weight lifting. The instructor explains various exercises and the importance of proper positioning during the exercises. There is plenty of time between exercises for setup and the exercises selected involve all the main muscle groups. I've used this program for three months and have definitely noticed results.

5-0 out of 5 stars An exceptional instructional video
I am a total novice when it comes to strength training. When I decided it was time to start lifting weights, I went out looking for a video I could use with ease. After buying, and not being able to keep up with, videos by Karen Voight and The Firm, I came across "Shaping Up With Weights for Dummies".

I have to admit, this tape is a God send for someone such as myself.

The instructor, Tracy York, was a good choice for this tape. Tracy, like the exercises themselves, is understated yet effective. Tracy talks non-stop throughout the video explaining in great depth how to execute each move properly and which muscles are impacted by the move. Without being too peppy, she explains strength training jargon and subtly encourages the viewer to hang in there through the burn.

There are 12 exercises in total. They are all moves you would be familiar with--squats, lunges, bicep curls, crunches, push-ups, etc etc. Both the lower and upper body get attention. Each exercise is done in two sets of 12 reps. You may think basic moves done in two sets may seem too simple. (I did.) But after the first few times I did this video, I was a bit sore the next day.

There is also just as much attention paid to stretching after each set as there is given to performing the set itself.

Like with the "for Dummies" books, this video includes little extras. Each move shows a brief split screen showing how to modify the move to either make it easier or more challenging. There are also quick blurbs that pop up as the viewer is doing the sets offering good form reminders, common-sense health tips and fitness myths demystified.

Overall, I believe, this is an excellent tape for the beginner who needs to build up proper form and skill.

However, this tape does have it's flaws.

While the thorough explanations of each move are essential, the long-winded verbal instruction gets really annoying really fast. After the first few times, and after I had grasped everything Tracy was saying, I found myself jogging in place for a good 2-3 minutes and getting really impatient while I waited for her to move on to the next move. There is just too much chatter in between exercises.

Once you get through establishing proper form, and once you get through doing one or two practice reps, the set begins and progresses rather quickly. This waiting and waiting between sets and then rushing through the sets leaves the workout feeling completely disjointed and lacking in flow.

Because the workout is so basic, I can easily see myself, after I memorize each move, doing this workout on my own and at my own pace without the video. And this goal allows me to forgive all that is lacking with this video. It does effectively teach all that one needs to get started in strength training. I couldn't ask for anything more.

As an instructional video, it is exceptional. As a workout video, it is lacking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Satisfied
I'm 37 and and out of shape, in the low 200s. I usually shy away from "for dummies" products. The exercises are good, the instruction is good, the music is good, and she's NOT too cute or too perky. Using this video 2-3 times / week (alternating with cardio) for a month now I can see and feel a difference, and have increased weight on half the exercises. It feels like a "made by women for women" product. Modifications are offered for beginning and advancing. It's worth paying full price for (my highest compliment). Includes warm up and streching, also.

5-0 out of 5 stars May be what you're looking for
I'm a middle age woman in reasonable shape. I walk an hour a day, several days a week. I wanted to add weight lifting to my exercise routine. Kathy Smith tape was too energetic & fast paced for me. So I got this "dummies" video from the library. It seemed more instructive & moved at a pace I preferred. I finally broke down & bought the video. At first I thought I'd fast forward through the stretch exercises in between the weight lifting exercises, but I soon realized how great the stretch exercises were so that I didn't wear myself out by the time I finished. I love the thoroughness of the tape, exercising all muscle groups, and the instructor's all around style is subtle but effect & I liked her explaining what muscles are worked in each exercise. I buy very few tapes, but I recommend this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video Great pace
Great Video. I love it. I have something I can follow. She goes through each move and lets you know what is going to happen. You can keep up with the vidoe. Great explainations. Can be done 2-4 times a week. The best in weights and I've tried a lot. Also works lower boday great. You can make it more challenging if you like. I'm very pleased with this video. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME WORKOUT!!!!
I have recently gotten engaged and like many brides want to loose weight and become more tone. I have gone to the gym for several years and have also tried other videos. I feel Crunch - Cardio Sculpt is absolute terrific and is the BEST way to accomplish my goal. Violet, the instructor is fabulous. She is energetic; extremely knowledgeable, and a wonderful motivator. The workout is low impact, which tones every part of your body in just 30 minutes. I also work full time and attend graduate school part time. With my busy schedule, this workout fits perfectly into my schedule. I highly recommend it. You will feel great and notice a difference within days!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging Change of Pace....
If you have been working out for a while and are ready for a change of pace "Crunch Cardio Sculpt" will challenge you. I found this work out just right for those wanting to move from beginning or introductory workouts to something more efficient. It may take several times before you get all the moves down or maybe even a few times before you get through the entire tape, but that is part of the challenge and also makes it fun(I had to laugh at myself trying to keep up with all the changes). It is always a good idea though to view a new workout at least once before attempting, so you have an idea of what's coming up.

Instructor Violet Zaki takes you first through a great warm up that will begin to increase your heart rate and get that blood pumping. Once that heart rate is up,the fat burning and muscles toning segments begin. Working on and off with weights, she'll take you through a fitness routine that will hit every part of your body. Shoulders, chest, back, legs, arms, buttocks and abs all get some attention. You can start with one light set of weights and work up to two sets(switching off), up to ten pounds for a more advanced challenge. With or without the weights, you'll be constantly moving and surprising those muscles. Lastly a terrific cool down and stretch segment to bring your heart rate back down and lengthen out those muscles. This part could have been just a little longer for me, but I continue to stretch during the end credits.(Total workout time was about 34 minutes)

Although, the class moves quickly, and as I said it may take a while to get all the moves down, Violet is an excellent motivator and cues well. There is even one person in the class you can follow if you need to modify any of the moves. It's always nice to add a change of pace when you're ready. This is a good head to toe workout that used regulary, should give you some nice results. For more specific areas, mix it up with weight training, power yoga or a Pilates workout a couple of times a week. I like "Quick Fix Pilate Abs", for a little extra help in that area.

The price is right to give this one a try. My only little complaint would be that there wasn't anyone in the class who looked to be over 25. "Crunch" people.....it would be much more encouraging to us aging boomers to add a couple of older people to these classes(at least over 30), we can do it!. But a 5 star workout out none the less.

Remember to breathe, eat healthy, and enjoy......Laurie

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as expected!
Having read the reviews on the Amazon sight, and having never purchased a Crunch video before, I was really looking forward to doing this workout. However, I must say I was slightly disappointed. Having done the workout I am still not convinced that you can effectively work all the major msucle groups in just 30 minutes. The instructor moved from one segment to another quickly, and I didn't feel that each muscle group had been worked effectively. She just seemd to touch on each group of exercises, and just as you got the hang of the sequence it was over! If you don't want to build up your thigh muscles then don't get this video as alot of the standing work is based on lunges.
If this video was just 15 minutes longer I think it would have been more effective. Yes, I realise we all want a workout that we can fit into our day, and that doesn't take huge amounts of our time, but I'm not convinced this 30 minutes will produce the effective results it claims.
I also thought the constant changing from light to heavier weights was slightly unnecessary (based on the exercises the weights were being used for).

In my mind, if you want an effective video that really works your muscle groups in as little time as possible, I have still not found anything better than Karen Voights fitness videos. When you have finished working out with her 30-45 minutes videos, you really feel as though you have worked your body. Unfortunately I did not feel that with this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent workout
this is my favorite cardio/sculpting workout. the exercises are fun & effective, violet is a great instructor & knows her stuff. the time goes by really quickly. i would recommend this dvd to anyone who wants to sculpt & tone.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT workout FUN!!!
I love this tape! The workout is so much fun that the time just flies by. I am not a fitness fanatic but I do like to workout at home with tapes and this is my favorite. The instructor is GREAT, the moves are not so repetitive that you get bored AND it is a thorough total body workout complete with ab work and a cool down.
I highly recommend this tape. So far I love all of the Crunch tapes I have purchased (Fat Blasting Yoga, Fat Blasting Pilates and Fat Blaster goes Latin) but this is definitely my favorite. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Fairly good with some technical problems
I have loved Kathy Smith workout tapes/discs for years. I'm glad she did this type of a workout but I have a few issues with it: 1) The lower body section relies too heavily on squats which can lead to an imbalance in muscle development, 2) the abdominal section is not that great, 3) the stretching sections are pretty fast, 4) sometimes I wished for a better view of proper positioning or technique.

Technically, there are a couple of problems with the DVD: 1) The main menu is incomplete. Hello! What's the problem here???? 2) Free stability ball workout? I don't think so. At least not on my disk and apparently not on some of the other reviewers' copies either. These kinds of mistakes are foolish in this day and age.

I did think that the upper body work out was unique and challenging. I also think that it is fairly easy to scale this workout to your fitness level. She's no nonsense, not annoying, and they keep the silly production stuff to a minimum.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOOOOOOOOVE this workout!
I am new to exercise, having dropped just over 50 pounds in the last year...and I've always hated exercise...until just recently. (Now I work out 5-6 days a week, and I crave it!) I started with the DVD from the weight loss program I was on, and did that for about 2 months until boredom set in. Then I discovered Kathy Smith! Lift Weight to Lose Weight is the 5th Kathy Smith video I've purchased, and is already my favorite. I love the programmable feature--one of my other DVD's was supposed to have that, and it didn't work. I love the squat section, the glute section (OH MY WORD! The glute section!), the standing upper body section (she nearly kills me on the triceps part every time); I haven't tried the stability ball workout yet, so I don't really feel qualified to comment on that. I don't know about anyone else, but when I finish this workout, I feel fantastic! I know it's making a difference...I was sore, GOOD sore for at least two days, the first few times I did the routines. I'm so glad I purchased this one--it was money well spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout!
I have no time to workout as a stay at home mom of two kids - 27 and 9 months old. I bought this DVD to try to get a little weight training in and in only 20 minutes I get a great workout! I love it! If I can find 20 minutes to do it anyone can. The DVD is easy to follow and Kathy is not annoying at all. I was able to find the bonus routines quite easily, you need to go to the next screen(there is a little arrow on the bottom). I like that I can do a 10 min. segment on arms and a 10 mins segment on legs and I'm done, or I can do all arms or all legs. Either way it is only 20 mins!

4-0 out of 5 stars Finding Incomplete Menu
A couple of reviews noted that there was no stability ball workout and an incomplete menu. I had the same issue and then finally figured it out. What appears to be the main menu is actually just the first of 2 main menus. To get to the second you need to select the triangle at the bottom. This takes you to the second menu and allows you to access the stability ball workout ( which is fun).

5-0 out of 5 stars Muscles Have Love/Hate Relationship with this DVD
Kathy Smith is one of my favorites. I like that this video challenges my muscles to the point where I can feel them the next day. If you don't enjoy the next day "good" hurt, you can use lighter weights or no weights at all.

In spite of the fact that the DVD cover boasts of a non existent 20-minute stability ball workout, I highly recommend this workout DVD. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great beginning to intermediate all over workout
I bought this tape 50 pounds ago and still use it occasionally for variety. It is a great introduction to step but is not overly instructive for those who already know step commands. Form is not very well explained in the weight intervals but if you use light weights you shouldn't get into too much trouble. It is a fairly quick tape... aproximately a half hour. The intervals make it seem even faster. My only real disappointment with this tape is that there are no exercises for the abdominal area. Also, I don't know if the description tells you this but you will need an aerobic step and some hand weights. ... Read more

This 52-minute video from 1992 combines low-impact and step aerobics with strength training. You keep the heart rate elevated for fat burning and cardiovascular conditioning while working the muscles. Jayne Poteet leads a class of fit exercisers of varying ages through a workout that's as tough as you want to make it, depending on how heavy your weights and how high your step. The aerobic moves are basic--no patterns, no complicated footwork--so beginners can manage the workout. The strength moves are sometimes combined with aerobic moves and sometimes isolated, and they are done slowly for safety and effectiveness. This is a well-designed workout except that the largest upper-body muscles (chest and midback) are left for the end (they're most efficiently worked early in a workout) and the shoulder presses start behind the neck (they're safer starting in front of the shoulders). Poteet includes both upper- and lower-body strength moves, but emphasizes the lower body. You'll need a barbell, dumbbells, a tall (14-inch) step, and a medium step. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tougher than you'd think
When I first bought this video I was used to the Firm V. 1-5 ... initially I thought of returning it as I breezed through it. WRONG. Enter tall box instead of Reebok step (17") a barbell and heavier weights and this is a most effective workout, particularly on days when my brain isn't fully functioning (shut up!) as it is fairly robotic. Jayne Poteet, a true Georgian peach, is a bombshell visual feast and it's fun to see some seniors in the cast. The pelvic floor contractions alone are a hoot & well worth the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars I TOTALLY AGREE W/THE LAST REVIEW!
Wow, you couldn't have said it better! I think all firms are great (except one or two I HATE) Vol 6 is a good workout, a lighter one I think. This wouldn't be a great intro to the FIRM. Actually, my first FIRM video was Tough Aerobics Mix in 95 and I was hooked, because you get to see some of the best sections from the classics series!
I think if you did vol 6 right off the bat, you might think that this series is too easy for me, but it really isn't!
I think this video is a definite keeper, but my edition is called "BOOMERS WORKOUT" and I feel weird doing this workout because it is more designed for older people or beginners. (that is what my copy says)
I think that if you are a beginner/intermediate, this might be a good starter video, but I agree that it might be good to start w/volume one and try the others
This video does have some tough tough parts. There is a hover squat part that almost kills me!
Jayne is a good instructor, I LOVE her cover, her hair is so pretty on it!
Overall grade for advanced B- (It is adaptable like most FIRMS, but still isn't their toughest)
FOR BEGINNERS- A- (easy to complete, not very tough w/ light weights

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent firm workout
i love the ab routine. this workout is the core of my collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!!
This is my favorite weight training workout for when I have more time. The routines are simple, so I can learn them quickly, and the workout is VERY intense and rewarding. You'll feel like a work-horse when you're done. Just doing this once or twice a week will make you ALOT stronger and will improve your posture. It's the only weight training video that has kept my interest and I've been doing it for YEARS. Make sure you get steppers that are the appropriate height for your height. The FIRM folks will tell you which ones to get. You can't beat it; it's one of my top 3 overall. Good luck!
Nita

2-0 out of 5 stars You could do better!
I have to admit that I did not actually do this video, merely previewed it. I lift weights and do step aerobics, but I'd heard so much about The Firm that I rented this video to preview and wasn't very impressed. The outfits, hair and makeup seemed to be the most important thing here. The instructors and class all wore low cut revealing outfits and none of them broke a sweat. They all came slinking into the room at the beginning of the tape, totally aware of the camera, acting as if they were in love with themselves. The workout itself looked to be challenging enough, although I noticed some moves that were not the safest, such as the behind the head barbell presses and barbell squats where the students were advised to look down at the floor instead of keeping their spine in alignment. Then there were the flat dumbbell flys where the students had their legs elevated in the air. You need your feet on the floor while doing those to support your back, especially when using heavier weight. Also, when using those small steps, holding weights and stepping up and down, if you lost your balance or got distracted and tripped or missed the step, you could injure yourself. To my mind, this isn't the safest workout (although I'm sure it's effective) and the instructors did not offer much, if anything, in the way of technique tips.

There are other instructors that I prefer (Karen Voight, Keli Roberts, Kathy Smith) who offer safe and effective workouts. I am not a "Firm Believer." ... Read more

Strength, endurance, and good form come together in the Firm's Firm Basics: Sculpting with Weights. This informative workout packs 43 minutes of sweat-producing weightlifting, coupled with aerobic intervals. Instructor Tracie Long is inspirational as she demystifies strength training and body alignment throughout this total body workout. The major muscles of the upper and lower body are trained with lunges, pushups, and a variety of standards that pack fat-burning potential. These exercises are basic in application but still deliver a challenging interval session. Low-impact aerobics segments are simply choreographed and spliced between weightlifting sets. This combination of aerobic and anaerobic exercise creates a program that encourages both power and stamina. The cueing is concise and informative with tips on body alignment playing an important role. All participants will need hand weights, a step, and a dowel (a broom will work great) to perform this workout. Because the choreography is very basic, this is an ideal program for the first-time exerciser; however, more advanced fitness buffs will also find a relevant program that will deliver an effective sweat-packed session (just increase your hand-weight size with your skill level). --Olivia Voigts ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout for upper and lower body
This video is a really great workout for beginners and can be adapted (by using heavier weights) for more expereinced exercisers. Tracie long is a great instructor and gives excellent cues, including examples of common mistakes in form that people make and lots of information about which exercises work which muscles. I encourage anyone (beginner or advanced) to watch the ENTIRE video - including the extra info. before and after the workout.
I started out with the FIRM Basics (Fat Burning and then this one) and they [were difficult] when I first started. Now I use them with heavier dumbells and alternate with more challenging Firm videos, like the Cross Trainers Strength and Cardio.
Note-- you need dumbells (light, medium and heavy) to do this video. They recommend starting with 3, 5 and 8-lbs. (two of each). If you don't already have them, you should strongly consider buying them, especially if you are planning to use other FIRM vidoes (which I highly recommend doing!). Also, you will need a step or stool. In this video, it's only used to sit on while you do upper body work with weights, so you could use a chair if you don't have the step. (Some of the more advanced FIRM videos use the step for other things and you can't subsititute a chair for those exercises.) It also uses a towel to stretch at the end (I use my Yoga strap.) Give it a try - it really works. It's a great idea to alternate this video with FIRM Basics - Fat Burning. They compliment each other nicely and use the same equipment. When they promise visible results within 10 workouts, they are not kidding (for me, it was more like 5 or 6)! If you stick with this, you WILL reshape your body - it's unavoidable. (Especially if you work up in weight as you get stronger and alternate with other videos.)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Workout
A little over a month ago I decided it was time to get back into shape, so I started out by doing some of the morning workouts on TV. When I was ready to do more, I asked my cousin - who's in excellent shape - which video's she uses to work out. She told me about The Firm tapes. So I looked them up here at Amazon, read some reviews and bought The Firm Basics: Sculpting with weights and Fat Burning. They are both excellent tapes. The instruction is wonderful and their claim that "you'll see results in just 10 workouts" is totally true. I feel 100 times better than I did, I have more energy, and feel better about myself. I've used other tapes before, but these are perfect in their combination of aerobics and weights, they are easy to understand and do. I've now got my mother doing them as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars this is an excellent workout
it was my first firm workout, and has been my springboard and the one i come back to since i bought it in 1997. Tracie Long is such an excellent enthusiastic instructor, and she was so gracious to me as i was babbling that to her on the FitPrime website that i still cant help talking her up. good luck to her and the Fitprime series as i read on this site sounds like another wonderful workout that i do intend to add to my collection at some point. the other Firm videos, The Tortoise and the Hare and All weights workouts are excellent.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much lecturing
The workout is great, but you have to listen or fast-forward to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Six workouts and I can see the difference - begin here
I needed to start exercising again in a bad way. Over 40 and starting to look it (and losing a pound of muscle a year according to the research) I bought this video along with a slew of others. I reviewed the Crunch's Bootcamp (which I love), Tamilee's I want that body (good - but no chest workout), and this is the one I finally felt I could do.

The workout is 45 minutes long. A dowel, or pole of some sort (broom - I had a bodybar), light weights (I use 5lbs) and a stool or armless chair is all you need to start. Tracey Long is a very cool instructor (not given to excitablilty) and gives great cueing and great tips on form. The production is very good and the set is gorgeous.

It took four workouts to really get the hang of the routine but now after completing seven workouts, every other day, using ONLY this video, I can see big changes. I'm looking slimmer and more toned than I have in a long time and I'm starting to get excited about those changes. And, finally, finally, my tummy is flattening. I can feel my muscles all over.

I expect to be using this video for a long time but will check out other Firm videos when I feel ready to move on. This one is a great place to start. I'm a believer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME Circuit Training Exercise Video
The Circuit Weight Training Exercises on this video gives me an Awesome Workout. The Exercises are very Good & Effective. In just 30 minutes I do an incredible intense Workout with dumbbells & to Energizing Instrumental Rock Music, which I happen to love.

I bought my first Funcercise video about 8 months ago and I was really amazed at how easy and effective these exercises were.

I am a stay-at-home Mom with a 3 year old, so going to the gym everyday is very hard for me. But with the Funcercise Resistance, I can do the same exercises at home and even my son joins in sometimes. This is my 3rd Funcercise Video. I Also have the Fun-Beginners video, & rotate to get different workouts and not get bored.

In the few months that I have these videos I gained Strength & Endurance and decided to get the Fun-Circuit video to add another level of strength training & cardio workout to my routine.

This video has given me more Endurance & Strength. My family & friends are noticing what I have achieved in losing Sizes & Weight.

The video is filmed on the beach giving a beautiful backdrop. I also love it that the narration is very minimal because of how Sunshine demonstrates each Exercise & then the set starts, which makes it very easy to follow & do, and makes it so simple that sometimes I use my own music CDs. I finish my full body work out routine without even noticing how fast its over.

I recommend this video to anyone who wants to get fast results in minimal time. This is a killer workout video, especially the Triple Whammy set in the end of the exhausting workout routine, the cool down & stretching, and then the relaxation in the end of the video is a definite plus, which has great affirmations & breathing exercises. When I finish the relaxation part in the end after the intense workout, I have a very Positive, Happier Upbeat Feeling.
I certainly recommend this video to anyone that wants an effective workout + get fast results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Circuit Training Video I Use Regularly &Got Results.

The video is pleasant to view and workout with and has a nice ocean background, with Sunshine motivating and giving properinstructions.

I do this Circuit training video 3 times a week, and I have gained strength & endurance and can now do the full Circuit workout non stop.

I recommended this video to all my family and friends. And Ican whole hearthledly say that this is the Best Circuit Weight Training Video.

2-0 out of 5 stars If only the music & explanations weren't so annoying....
Too bad the music is so awful, as well as the speaker's repititious instructions. The exercises are actually very well done and are effective.I just couldn't get past the terrible audio!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Circuit Weight Training Video! Great Killer Workout
I was visiting in New York and saw this video being played on QPTV and was amazed by the Super Workout that Sunshine was doing. The exercises were done perfectly, Sunshine first demonstrated & explained each exercise, The Page turned then the sets started which made it very Easy and Simple to Follow & Do.
The video has 3 sets of each exercise done NONSTOP, the first 2 sets are the same exercise 12 reps for each set and the Third set Sunshine dose another exercise for the same muscle which gives a super endurance workout + an added benefit of cardio. Sunshine is always Smiling, the video is filmed on the beach.
This Is a video for everyone that wants to get a SUPER WORKOUT IN MINIMAL TIME, 30 Minutes and you are done.
There approx. 5 minutes warm up, Circuit exercises with weights, 3 sets non stop for every muscle group + A Triple Super Whammy, (Killer Set) Squat with Hammer Curl & Arnold shoulder pushups, which concludes the circuit training, There is a cool down of 5 minutes stretching & A Special segment of Relaxation & breathing with nature & soothing music.

4-0 out of 5 stars Historic and fun
This short documentary explores the world of competitive female bodybuilding during the early 1980's. This film is true to the era with heavy makeup, spandex, bad hair and a moonwalk included during a posing routine. The film ponders the the level of acceptable muscularity that a woman should posess and examines the judging of a competitor who at the time was bigger than any other woman who ever stood on the competitive stage -- Australian power lifter Bev Francis. By current standards, Bev would fit right in and might actually be on the small side as compared to other female professional bodybuilders, but by 1983's standards, she was considered a freak. Neither the judges nor the competitors could come to a consensus about the ideal. The first Ms. Olympia Rachel McLish was more along the lines of what the public expected of female bodybuilders -- sleek, with some definition and feminine. McLish and the others look more like today's fitness competitors. Carla Dunlap had considerable size, but was still smaller than Francis who she said "Has muscularity that most men would envy."

Female bodybuilding is still a fringe activity, and this film shows some of what the pioneers endured in the early days. And much like today, the officials and trainers are mostly male.

I enjoyed this movie for its camp value, but it's also a nice history lesson for female physique competitors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Documentary of Wos. Professional Bodybuilding's top contest
In 1985, Women's Professional Bodybuilding was in it's infancy. Men's Bodybuilding had already been explored in the "Pumping Iron" documentary, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, we are taken in the gym and backstage at the premiere Professional Bodybuilding event for Women. Controversey arises, when one entrant (Bev Francis) is more bulky and muscular than other more svelte (Rachel McLish) entrants. Just what constitutes a Women's Bodybuilding Champion? The woman that is most muscular, or the one that looks more like the average woman's ideal?

5-0 out of 5 stars Truely inspirational!
I was so enraged at the sexism displayed by the judges and some of the other girls in this film I immediatley afterward went to the gym and hit the weights extra heavy with extra reps. Watch how Bev Francis was shafted and changed the face of womens bodybuilding forever. The feminine debate goes on...

3-0 out of 5 stars Good movie, poor transfer
I saw this film when it first came out in the theaters. I remember I went in wanting Rachel McLish, respecting Carla Dunlap, and repulsed by Bev Francis. I came out of the theater wanting Carla Dunlap, respecting Bev Francis, and repulsed by Rachel McLish. I was about 21 at the time.

I am giving this film only three stars because, while "Pumping Iron II" is a well made film, it is a poorly made DVD. The film looks underexposed throughout and somewhat grainy in places. I realize the distributor is a small company but a little more effort could have been put into the transfer. If they could manage to get Geroge Butler (the director) to do commentary then one would think they could manage to procure a better quality print (or even make a print from the negative) for DVD release. The photos in the still gallery that come in the Extras are digital crisp, even when viewed with the "zoom" feature on your remote. They should have put the same cleanup effort into the movie itself.

Speaking of extras, why is there no commentary from any of the principal participants/competitors themselves? This film was such a big break for all of them that I can't believe the producers couldn't get even one of them to offer their insights. A film like this needs some historical perspective, IMHO. Still, it's a good movie, worth buying if you're a fan of women's bodybuilding, or interested in women's studies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent weight body sculpting workout
I like Stephanie Corley very much as an instructor, this workout was a perfect length 45 min and had so many additonal sculpting exercises i KNOW will be feeling it tomorrow as much as any aerobic step workout. Excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a total body workout
This is 45 minutes of a total body workout. It goes by fast but the results are great. After doing this workout the first day, my body felt it the next. Some people don't think you need the fanny lifter, I did try this workout and some of the Firms others without the fanny lifter and the results are not the same. Especially doing the leg press, the lifter is needed. The instructor is great, even paced and keeps you motivated to finish the workout. The last segment is the ab segment and it is short, sweet, to the point and effective. The other DVD of the Firms I would recommend is the Body Sculpt with Jennifer Carmen, that workout is 55 minutes and you definately feel it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Efficient total body workout
Stephanie Corley is one of the best of the new Firm instructors. Like most Firm instructors, she cues moves and changes very well. However, unlike a good number of them, she manages to be motivating without being condescending and uses a lot of clear visualizations.

The workout, designed by Corley, is efficient and hits everything. Those who want the more traditional Firm approach incorporating multi-body part moves (e.g., bicep curls as you squat) or mixing upper body and lower body exercises (e.g., lunges followed by lat rows followed by dips) will be disappointed. This is more "gym style" in it's approach, working Upper Body, Lower Body, then Abs. However, within each section, Corley mixes body parts. So within Upper Body, you would work triceps, then biceps, then triceps, then back to biceps. With a change in lifting tempo (1 up, 1 down, then 2 up, 2 down, then maybe a 3-count pulse), it's unlikely that you'll be bored though.

I always find that if I heavy up on the Firm leg exercises I get into my aerobic training zone. This was no exception. Mercifully, however, this workout only has two sets of the famous tall step leg press and only (I believe) 1 set of lunges and dips each. You'll be working, but you won't be dying. It's worth noting that all of the exercises in the Lower Body section are standing- if you want floorwork, look elsewhere.

The abwork is a nice, short mix of traditional ab crunches and some Pilates-inspired moves (leg pulls, leg lowering). Probably my least favorite section (I'm not a fan of traditional ab work), but nothing wrong with it.

A tall step (12 to 14 inches) is required, particularly for the leg presses. I use a sturdy stool. The 6 inch step is used here to aid in the lunges and dips, but if you've lunged before without a step, you'd probably be fine. Those with not so great knees (like yours truly) will probably want to use the 6 inch step.

Each workout includes a warmup and a stretch. This is a great tape for those who are consistently short on time but want to get in a thorough sculpting workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE firm tape!!!
Ok, I have the worst knees in the world and this workout is FINE! (someone said to skip this workout if you have bad knees) Recent research has proven that for maximum fat loss one needs 25% cardio and 75% resistance training. This tape is almost perfect for that! (See Business Plan for the Body)

This tape is divided into 3 sections, each 15min. I try to do all of them at once and it is exhusting!
Each muscle group is worked to resistance and there is no time wasting dancing around!!!
I use this tape on my body sculpting days and alternate it with cardio and the newer body sculpt with abs. I would do only this one on my sculpt days but you know that "muscle confusion" is important!
The entire body is worked, including abs. Also, you can adjust this workout by increasing or decreasing your weights.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for those who don't live to work out
I don't like being "forced" to do an hour long workout but I find that I can do it. I've finally whipped my butt into shape with this video without feeling exhausted afterwards. This video works all the major muscle groups, mostly to fatigue, especially my triceps and shoulders which tend to be my weakest areas. It seems a bit light in the back work, but then again it's difficult to build back muscles with dumbbells alone. For those of you who hate pushups, fortunately there aren't too many of these. I couldn't get these results with the older Firm videos I tried, maybe because I can't get myself to stick with it for the long haul. You don't need to kill yourself for an entire hour to get into great shape; it's all about the method, not the time. Interestingly enough, I actually have the motivation to go through all the segments (total 40 minutes) and then do my cardio workout (adds another 1/2 hour). The DVD is segmented into upper body, lower body, and abs. Remember, you can always increase your weights when they become too light. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent workout, excellent instructor!
This workout is simply excellent. It's fun and the moves are effective. The moves are far beyond the "basic" upper body weght training workout. There are twists and turns and the music is fabulous. Janet Brooks is also a supurb instructor. She should be featured more frequently on the FIRM workouts. I was not lost once on my first try. The workout will definitely shape your upper body.

There's no aerobics on this DVD. The warmup is fun and upbeat and then you dive right into thirrty minutes of very unique weight training for the upper body. From uneven push ups and triceps dips to tough lat rows with the FIRM Sculpting Stick, you will finish this workout never wanting to do your plain old weight lifting again. The music is just awesome, choreographed precisely to the moves. And Janet Brooks is a top quality instructor. She makes the first time easy sailing for you- even if you're a novice. This is perhaps the best Upper Body workout DVD out there. It's wonderful!

4-0 out of 5 stars balanced, effective strength routine
The only reason this video didn't get 5 stars is the pull-up bar exercise that most home exercisers don't have. Other than that, it's really good. Cory does 3 or 4 exercises for each body part, with 2 sets of 12 reps each. Regarding the review above, there is no need to pause the tape and do more reps because you are supposed to choose a heavy enough weight that you will not be able to do more than 12 reps. However, if you felt ambitious and wanted to do a third set you would need to pause (but I doubt you'll have the energy). The entire sculpting series is excellent- her chest, shoulders, and triceps being the best.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great video.
This tape really works specified areas. Cory only does 2-3 sets so you must pause the tape and do your own. Great tape to get started but exercise great for everyone. There is one exercise you do need a pull up bar for which I just to something else. Overall great work out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great inexpensive workout routine
Gilad is a great motivator. I feel like I'm right there with his group on the beach and I don't want to let them down. For some reason I want to give my best even though I'm in pain from the unrelenting reps. But, at the same time, it's fun.
After two weeks of doing one segment a day, four days a week I could tell a difference in my tone, strength, and endurance. Plus, I just felt better.
Some may do the whole work out, but I have found that I don't have time to spend a whole hour so I use heavier weights and do one segment each day. The results have been great. It's too bad this can't be found in a dvd format.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow--what a workout!
Gilad is the best overall exercise instructor in my opinion. He combines good warmups, excellent cardio, stretching with figure shaping exercises.

He combines bodybuilding type exercises, only without weights with mental imagery. Gilad suggests that you imagine having two heavy pulleys attached to your arms for example while doing a free hand pec deck exercise or overhead pulldowns. It works.

Gilad is very motivating and inspiring. The aerobics includes bother low impact and moderate impact type moves. The running with the legs in back is a unusual technique.

I also recommend Arnold's Bodyshaping for Women for women who want to know the best way to train with weights for figure tone and shape and conditioning.

5-0 out of 5 stars CBW
I feel so great after this workout. It is a real challange but fun.I like the way he switches body parts. It keeps it interesting and it keeps me motivated.I know when I just think I can't go on he will switch to a different muscle group and I can continue. My kids have tried to do it with me but they haven't been able to keep up as yet. When the going gets rough I wish I could jump in the wonderful ocean behind Gilad. It is the best video of its kind that I have ever used. Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars a great way to spend an hour!
This is the way to make an hour fly by!But. believe me - you know you've worked.Short sets of few reps, continually over an hour.It doesn't seem like it's too strenuous, until you stop!THen you know that Gilad has talked you through "just 8 more". more times than you can count! He's got great presentation, and endless enthusiasm. He always helps you concentrate on form, but have fun.Not a beginner's workout, but certainly an awesome way to spend 67 minutes. The only thing that seems a bit short is the ab routine.

5-0 out of 5 stars with Gilad, an hour just flies by
I love this video and have been using it for awhile (I can even get my boyfriend to join me in the workout). Gilad is great-- he is down to earth and very motivating. Though some of the moves can get repetitious(especially all those lunges), he does a good job in alternating musclegroups (though I wish he didn't leave the shoulder exercises until theend). He alternates between upper and lower body, following with a decentab workout, and a brief, athletic-type stretch. One unusual thing aboutthis workout is that you must balance yourself (without a chair) in a lotof the moves (thereby, using more muscles and developing better balance). He also likes to work calves which are often neglected in strength trainingtapes. This is a great tape for someone who likes simple, back-to basicsworkouts. Overall, I think this is a great tape for intermediateexercisers-- it made me want to get more Gilad tapes. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout in a short period of time
This is another Firm Video that I did NOT like the first time I tried it. Since its name was Cardio Sculpt Blaster, I expected it to be much more like Cardio Sculpt from the Body Sculpting System 1. It's similar, but it is mostly cardio with some light weights and very little actual weight training. Since then, I've really seen how this video can help on days when an hour+ long tape just isn't going to fit into your schedule. It's also great for "rest" days when you aren't doing sculpting.

Keep in mind that this video does require the fanny lifter or some sort of step. It does include some more complicated step movements - if you have trouble, try concentrating just on the foot movements and not arms. Once you get the feet down, add the arms.

As usual, remember to keep water near you when you work out - the Firm neglects to remind us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packs a punch in 30 minutes
Or maybe more like 31 or 32. In any case, it's a very efficient cardio workout. What I love about the Firm style of cardio is the combination of step and floor aerobics, plus the addition of light handweights for intensity (not too much toning though- the movements with the weights are too fast to use weights for controlled sculpting). This tape uses all of those variations, plus slightly more choreographed step sections than usual (for the Firm).

Admittedly, it doesn't look like much on preview, or even by the time you hit the warmup. When Lisa Kay (the instructor) says "This is fun!", I can't help but roll my eyes. However, by the second combination, I've definitely worked up a sweat and I'm grabbing my water. I'm very ready to cool down and stretch by the time we're at the 30 minute mark.

Yes, the instructors use the "fanny lifter" for this workout as well as light handweights (3 and 5 would be best). However, I don't own a fanny lifter and I'm not planning on buying one after having heard all of the complaints about it. I use a sturdy stool that's about 14 inches high and my regular 6 inch step (turned sideways) for the workout. Don't let the equipment get in the way of a good workout!

2-0 out of 5 stars confused
I bought this tape thinking it was a regular cardio tape. I had no idea that all of the firm's tapes require the use of this fanny lifter thing. Isn't it enough I wasted money on the tape, now they want me to go spend money on equipment? Ok, well I guess some people don't mind. But they should at least make that clear in the video description so that people don't waste money on something they don't want. I gave it a 2 instead of a 1 because if I actually wanted to waste money on the fanny lifter it would have been a decent tape.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
Cardio Sculpt Blaster is part of the new generation FIRM tapes. I've been using FIRM videos since the 80's and although I give the FIRM creators snaps for innovative ideas these new tapes just don't bust my butt like the old tapes do. Cardio Sculpt Blaster is an enjoyable quick workout, but I barely break a sweat. I'll only recommend this workout if you don't have time to do anything else. It's only 30 minutes, but it's better than doing nothing. For a killer sweat fest I recommend FIRM tape number one, "Body Sculpting Basics with Susan Harris". My all time favorite butt kicker!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for a quick cardio workout...pair it with an ab tape
I love this tape. I found the choreography easy to follow after the second time. The music isn't bad and I find the instructor motivating. I like to pair it with an ab tape or an upper body workout. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Firm is the most effective workout you'll EVER do...
For this series (one of three), a 14" "fanny lifter", sculpting "stick" and dumbbells are recommended. However, you can use just dumbbells and a regular aerobic step with an old broom handle (that's what I do)! This is a fun workout; it's got weight training, cardio, and lots of variety. I am 48 years old and have been doing the Firm since the first one came out in the late 80's. Truthfully, I have a tight, toned body that everyone says looks no older than 35. If you do these videos, you WILL get results.

This starts by by warming up with Fanny Lifter, then launches into weight work that alernates upper and lower body exercises, a technique called PHA (peripheral heart action) training that burns more calories by forcing the heart to pump between distant muscle groups. Cardio intervals are interspersed throughout, everthing from kickboxing to step aerobics. Then it's time to hit the floor for upper body work and an abdominal section that will change your mind about ab work! The stretch is long, relaxing, and complete- a great finish! This workout is about an hour long.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
I love it! Great workout, great instructor, great time, great results...nuff said! :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Effective workout
I really enjoyed this workout. I have only done it a few times but I like the routines. True, this is not as hard as the original FIRMS but it is far better than many of the other tapes out there, and still includes what I call 'the FIRM feel'. I recommend starting out with these tapes and when you want to become more challenged, purchase a few of the older videos. This tape however, can easily be made to be more challenging by adding additional weight. I hope you won't let one poor review deter you from a great workout system. Also, for every move that invloves the weighted stick you can use a dowel for stability and just use your free weights for resistance.....you'll get the same benefit!! Good luck to anyone trying it!!! I really am pleased that I purchased these tapes.

1-0 out of 5 stars "Total Sculpt" equals "Total Waste Of Time and $$"
When I purchased The Firm Total Sculpt, I was quite disappointed to find that in addition to the DVD, I was required to purchase a "sculpting stick" which is basically an 8 lb weight bar that can assemble into very light hand weights or a medium free weight and the "fanny lifter" which is a 6" step that stacks on top of an 8" step and I was also upset to find that instead of a weight training/target toning video, it was "jazzercise aerobic" with very little weights. I forged ahead with the workout using hand weights, a wooden dowel, and instead of the "fanny lifter" I used an aerobic step platform and a well constructed homemade "fanny lifter" that my fiancé' built for me. I managed to complete the workout frustrated and disappointed. The 45 minute workout was narrowed down to about a half hour due to unnecessary equipment changes, and excessive "cheerleader" choreography. Jen Carman is bouncy and annoying as an instructor because she is excessively cheerful bordering on phony. She fails to "instruct", instead changes excercises and dance routines without warning. The arm and leg excercises were the same tried and true basic exercises demonstrated in the "classic firm" videos, but they are all mixed together without the effective and necessary repetitions. Another annoying feature is that it is not grouped up into specific target toning segments, so you have to bear the burden of tolerating Jen and the embarrassingly bad dance routines or fast forward to get to these specific segments. I am increasingly becoming a firm "non-believer" due to the fact that every time they put out a workout tape, they market their new and improved "signature" equipment to perform the same target toning exercises demonstrated in the classic firm videos. The so called "Body Sculpting System 2" is a total waste of time, effort, and money. But if you're still interested in purchasing this tape, I have it listed on ebay for $1.99. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent workout
This is a great video-she alternates 5 minute segments of aerobic and body sculpting moves. If you use this tape three times a week, you will see results. I went from a size 40 waist in pants to a 36 in a month and a half. You may want to alternate this tape with Kacy's other, "The Lucky Vanous Workout." Though it has his name, she is the chief architect behind that tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kacy is Great!
This morning was my first time doing this workout and I loved it! Some mornings I just dread working out but this was such a fun workout that I actually enjoyed doing it. I have many exercise videos and this was one of the most enjoyable. It will be in heavy rotation. I wish Kacy would come out with others. I highly recommend this very enjoyable and effective routine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Video!!!
This is one of my favorite circuit training videos! Kacy is friendly, encouraging and easy to follow. I always feel strong and rejuvenated after I finish this workout. I highly recommend it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Now Exercise is Fun and Easy
I just finished this tape, and I am looking forward to doing it again tomorrow. As a person who has not always found exercise easy, this tape makes exercising a pleasure and not a chore. As Kacy states, "Exercise shouldn't be a chore. It should be a joy. Honor yourself." Plus it was refreshing to see a woman of color leading the video without being bubbly -- Kacy is definitely a winner! I highly recommend this tape for anyone who wants to get back into shape or those looking for a fun and effective workout-- either way, you sweat!

5-0 out of 5 stars Smooth moves
I really did not know what to expect from this video, because I never worked out with Kacy Duke before. I must say it was a very nice change from all of the choppy workouts from other tapes I've used. I was able to flow with her through this workout, like she said 'natural moves'. Before I knew it, I was perspiring and it was time to strech. The stretches were really refreshing. This is definetly a workout that you can get in to. I'm looking forward to more workouts from her. Try it you'll like it.

Need to get those muscles moving, but only have half an hour to do it? Turbo Sculpt from Crunch is the answer. Instructor Debbee Sharpe leads you through a challenging workout (weights are required) designed to get your whole body moving. You'll have worked up a sweat after just the first segment, which involves standing and using weights. In the second segment you lie down to work with the weights, and the final section concentrates on your abs. Sharpe gives great, easy-to-follow direction, and if you follow this tape, she'll whip you into shape. Note that the exercises are a bit difficult, so this may not be the best place to start for a beginner. If, however, you're at an intermediate to advanced level, this fun workout will sculpt all-over muscle tone. --Jenny Brown ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great 30 minute workout
I would recommend this video to other intermediate exercisers who are looking for something to do when they don't have time for a 60 minute video. The instructor is energetic, and explains each exercise very clearly. The backup exercisers hoot and holler throughout the routine (as if these buff ladies are really getting tuckered out by a few squats) which might irritate some, but personally I find it entertaining, and it gives me something to chuckle at while I'm working out. The most effective segment is probably the abs, they don't skimp even though its only a 30 minute video. My only complaint is that there is too much lag time- sometimes this occurs because as each exercise is being explained, you're standing there doing nothing. In addition there are these "motivational" blurbs thrown in between segments. Of course it dosen't take much sense to realize that you can just keep doing the previous moves until the routine starts up again.
