To describe Playhouse Disney's perennial preschool favorite, think Teletubbies meets the Jetsons. This loving, traditionalfamily--Mr. And Mrs. Polie, 6-year-old Olie, sister Zowie, and GrandpaPappy--are hairless beings with antennas, glassy eyes, and noodle arms, set in a fruit-striped, computer-animated household of livingappliances. Okey-dokey? While parents scratch their heads as to whatmakes this program work, preschoolers are enamored with the soothingstorylines, predictable endings, and deliberate pace of the Emmy-awardwinning show. A trio of hardly haunted tales makes up this celebratory24-minute video. If Charlie Brown gets the Great Pumpkin, then Olie candream of the giant orange Spookie Ookie, which he does in "The Legendof Spookie Ookie." In "Oooh Scary," Olie and his pal Billy plan to giveZowie the fright of her life but the shivers come back to haunt them, much to her delight. And in "Zowie Queen of the Pumpkins," thespookie-ookiest day of the year becomes a sweet memory of dancing withspook-o-lanterns when Zowie meets a midnight friend in the pumpkinpatch. 5-0 out of 5 stars Our favorite Olie episode
My son has been in love with Spookie Ookie since he first saw this Halloween episode last fall, when he was about 17 months old. The video gets watched on a regular basis at our house. I like it too. I've seen it probably 20 times, and I'm still not tired of it. Now, if only they would release it on DVD...

5-0 out of 5 stars we love it
Rolie Polie Olie is one of my daughter's favorite shows. I enjoy it too because it is well made, the stories are well told, and, the characters and setting are simply adorable! A Spookie Ookie Halloween is a little on the short side, being the length of the average show, but very entertaining. They are celebrating what looks like Halloween but it is differnt than most Halloween shows as there is not an emphasis on candy. I am basically dumbfounded by the reviewers who said this movie is so scary. This is ridiculous. My daughter who is to loves it. I recommend this to anyone who isn't an over sensitive nutcase. Seriously, enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars we love Rolie Polie Olies
My 15 month daughter and 3 year old niece love this video. The shapes and colors are great. It was hard to put away until next October!

4-0 out of 5 stars Too Scary for my 2 yr old!
This video is very cute for older children but my daughter is 2 and he not able to sit through the whole video. We have even noticed her having nightmares from it. We all love Rolie Polie Olie but this video is a little too scary.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too scary for little ones.
My 1-and-a-half year old loves Olie and the other two videos, but this one was much too scary for him. It is also awfully short. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tons of Fun!!
My 2 1/2 year old adores Olie. He knows all the characters like they are his friends, which we don't mind as its a great show. This tape deals with telling the truth. Although our son is a bit young for the concept, he gets bits from it. It is very cute and I would recommend it to teach honesty and communication between parents and children. We own every olie tape. This one is great.

5-0 out of 5 stars great lesson for kids
this video teaches kids not to lie and the outcome if you do....my son loves rolie polie olie....there bright and colorful and have interesting characters who all have their own personality....it's great fun and good lessons to teach your children....A must have...any olie video!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another top notch Rolie Poile film!
These just keep getting better and better! I like Round Pal Square Friend better, but this one is great too. In it, Rolie does not eat his brussel sprouts and tells his mom he did. He thinks about how a little lie can grow and grow out of control. It's a good lesson. In the next story Olie hides a note from his teacher thinking it is bad. He tries to be extra good. Then he gives the note to his parents and it was all good. He wishes he gave them the note earlier so he did not have to cover it up. They said whatever it was they would understand. A goos lesson about being open and honest to your parents. Finally the last story is about not wearing his helmet during skating. These videos are my 21-month-olds current favorites by far! Next is The Book of Pooh. Highly recommended for anyone under 3. ... Read more

Rolie Polie Olie, winner of the 2000 Emmy Award for outstanding special class animated program, presents a trio of episodes--one of which is perfect for Valentine's Day. In "Happy HeartsDay," Olie and Billy turn up their noses at Zowie's extensive preparations for "Gooey Hearts Day." When Mrs. Polie sets up a play date with the new neighbor girl, Polie Pi, the boys are initially begrudging. A quick bite by the "looove bug" soon has the boys competing with one another and showing off to impress Polie Pi, but this results in Polie Pi feeling sad and left out. "Top Dog Fish" finds Olie and Zowie enamored with the class fish they're caring for over the weekend and has pet dog Spot desperately begging for attention. In "Mom's Night Out," Mrs. Polie is off for a few sets of bowling while Pappy and the kids have a barbeque in the back yard. After promising not to leave a mess, the trio decides to make a 17-layer cake that leaves the kitchen in a shambles. Thank heavens for quick cleanup! This video is 28 minutes of Rolie Polie Olie fun. 5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Olie video!
Bright and colorful computer animated tales of a young boy and his family and friends....and Pollie Pie!! She is so adorable....my son giggles when she comes on the screen!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absoloutly love it!!!!
I can't express how wonderful the rollie pollie movies are. We have all but two and they are life savers for me. I am not the type to plunk my infant in front of the t.v. but if I need a breake I can count on rollie. My son is only 5 months old now but I discovered that he liked the show when he was only 2 or 3 months old. I needed a chance to do some house work and I put disney on and placed him in his swing rollie came on and he was so ammused with it. I have never seen an Infant that young watch something so intently. I don't know if it is the bright colors or Zoie's voice. Back then he would usually fall asleep durring the show, but now he hears the song and all movement stops and he looks at the t.v. So for x-mas I asked that my family get these movies so if I need a break durring the day I can put one of them in. You might think that any movie would hold his attention at his age but you're wrong I have tried and rollie is the only one that really holds his attention.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooray for Olie!
My child LOVES Rolie Polie Olie! We watch this video at least once a day. The stories on this one are light and funny (as always). My 2-year-old laughs at the jokes, gets sad along with Spot, and has started saying "later tater". All in all this is one I don't mind watching over and over. Bring on more of these videos!

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful
A delightful look at Olie and his family - good stories for my almost 4 year old and interesting colors/actions for my toddler. Only problem is its too short (24 mins)!

4-0 out of 5 stars Just The Begining

The first full-length outing of Playhouse Disney's preschool series is a cartoon-style space adventure pitting Olie and Zowie against the villain Gloomius Maximus, who threatens to cast a dark force of gloom on Zowie's birthday. Using his vacuum tentacles (appropriately named "un-fun-erators"), this pirate of pleasure wants to extract all the fun out of Polieville. "Smiles look better upside down; I feel better when you feel worse," he gloats. When Gloomius casts his Glum Beam on the Polie house, everyone becomes bluesy and snoozy. Will a barrage of giggles thwart Gloomius's plan? Can Space Boy save Zowie's day? This engaging 74-minute movie is sprinkled with so much sweetness (and mirthful music), young viewers will quickly join Olie's efforts as Great Defenders of Fun. Inventive storytelling and supportive dialogue among this family of geometric-shaped, hairless creatures give reason to believe this will be a favorite of Olie fans. Ages 3 to 7. --Lynn Gibson ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Olie Olie Olie
My soon to be 3 year old loves Rolie Polie Olie since the first time he the show on Playhouse Disney. The picture quality of the movie was great but the frames were too choppy and it gives your eyes a workout just to watch. The evil gloomius didn't scare my son too much but he was wondering who he was because this character was not introduced before. When he mentions him it is always who is the green scary guy? Overall, I think this movie was ok.

5-0 out of 5 stars Totally acceptable to me!
My 6 1/2 month old has been watching this DVD EVERYDAY since he was 3 months old. He is captivated by the colors, music, shapes and sounds. When he's tired or needs some down time we'll put this DVD in and he'll watch the entire movie. I know it word for word -- as well as the lyrics to all the songs. :o)~

Rolie Polie Olie is a hit in my household. I've been sucked into the merchandising of it too. Dolls, books etc. I really like William Joyce as a childrens author, he's written some great books for kids. I also like Playhouse Disney, I think it's a positive educational experience for children.

I am a teacher, and am aware of all that's out there for kids. I'm glad there is some responsible programming and entertainment available for our children.

I'm happy my little guy enjoys this DVD so much, but I hope he becomes interested in something new soon because I'm not sure how many more times I can stand hearing, "It's Zowie's Birthday"... LOL

If you purchase this DVD, I'm pretty sure you'll find it worth every cent. I can honestly say I have no regrets...

5-0 out of 5 stars I have an addicted toddler!
We bought this DVD in desperation while on a LONG road trip for our 20 month old. We hooked up the laptop and played the DVD for her while on the road and it was a LIFESAVER!! We bought 4 different movies and she wanted THIS one played over and over. It really is a cute movie and I love the Olie family.

I love that the characters always remain positive and "can-do", there isn't any violence (the worst is when Gloomious takes a toy from a child), and it's all about having fun.

Now that we are home, I am limiting her to watching it once a day, but TRUST me...she could watch it completely mesmerized over and over and over....

I am now on the hunt for more Olie movies!

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
My son has loved Olie since he was six months old. The cartoon is a very new, retro approach to entertainment with vivid bright colors. Rolie Polie Olie and his family and friends are cute and funny and together they bring great messages to life.

Usually the Olie cartoons are about five to ten minutes long, so this one is a big suprise. It is a full lenght feature...It's about Olie and his friend Billy and how they become Great Defenders of Fun to save sister Zowie's birthday!

It is a little long. It's a little repetative. It's still very cute and fun, just a little long for the little kids.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Great Defender of Fun is GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!
My daughter (12 months old) loves Rolie Polie Olie and the Great Defender of Fun is no exception! She loves it and is not at all scared by the character Gloomius Maximus or any other parts of the movie. Even I love this movie! The animation is excellent, graphics are captivating and the color is crisp! Buy it you will not regret it! ... Read more

By the shape of things, Rolie Polie Olie's angle-free existence ought to be all smooth sailing. Turns out, though, that 6-year-old robots slip into family skirmishes as clumsily as their kid counterparts do. Sending the point into overdrive is Growing Upsie Daisy, in which a daydream about ditching the confines of childhood delivers Rolie, Zowie, and Billy into a twilight zone of ungainly grownups; Uncle Gizmo dips into a scrapbook to help Zowie zap the younger-sibling blues; and Olie apes his father until he figures out growing up ought not to happen too fast. Planet Rolie Polie's boldly colored, liquid-like citizens are cosmic Midwesterners, right down to the accent, and we love them for the same reasons--they're wholesome, they're jovial, and, for a clan of robots, they're remarkably unstiff. Upsie Daisy, with its subtle getting-along themes, holds sway over even the squirmiest preschoolers, meriting many rewinds. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best of Rolie Polie Olie!
This one is top notch! The children imagine what it would be like to be grown-ups and it is hillarious! The parents are the kids and demand vegetables for dinner and golf instead of cartoons. They want to go to bed early and their choice of bed time story is the newspaper. Rolie, Zowie and Billie want to stay up all night, but the newspaper puts them all to sleep. Very funny! The otehr 2 stories are equally as good with Uncle Gizmo and Rolie being just like Dad. I like this one the best, and I have them all. My 21-month-old seems to love them all equally. I am no longer annoyed that these videos are only 24 minutes long either. Well worth the [money] every time! ... Read more

Rolie's baby tooth and Pappy's dentures share the spotlight in this 24-minute compilation of the animated Disney series about a robot family. In the title episode, Rolie has a loose "baby 'bot tooth," but it's Pappy's false enamels that are on the run, inspiring boy and robot dog to don cooking ware in their quest to recover them. In "A Tooth for a Tooth," Rolie and pal Billy decide they'll be the first robots ever to see the tooth fairy, aided by a glue trap. "Gotcha" sees Pappy's wayward false teeth on the run again, this time gobbling up a neighbor's BBQ and devouring a class project on the four food groups before Rolie traps them using an edible costume. This colorful series, based on William Joyce's whimsical books, is aimed squarely at preschoolers (ages 2 to 5) with a lot of kid humor and a pinch of life-lesson material thrown in for good measure. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The worst of Rolie Polie Olie- Still very good!
My 21-month-old really likes this, and all, Rolie Polie Olie videos. I think this one is the worst. It really is all about a tooth on the loose. First Olie's tooth falls out, then Grampa's teeth jump all over the place and make a horrible high pitched squeal through the next 2 stories. Kind of annoying, but full of action for the toodler. 5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps my son occupied for hours at a time!!!
My son loves this DVD. It has turned him into a Polie Fan for sure. He loves to watch it right before he goes to bed. It is one of his favorites and asks for it daily. It is a typical child's movie and keeps him occupied for hours at a time. The only drawback is that it is not really long enough - definitely not movie format and there is no repeat play, urgh!!!

A fixture on Playhouse Disney (a host of morning TV programs aimed at preschoolers), Rolie Polie Olie is a hip, computer-animated show combining a '50s sitcom family with nifty robotic stuff kids will dig. With antennas, round faces, and a household of living appliances, the Olies are part of an Emmy-winning show containing some of the best elements of The Jetsons and Peewee's Playhouse. Three Yuletide tales make up this 24-minute video featuring the 6-year-old Rolie, his younger sis Zowie, and their parents. Grandpa's old ornament is accidentally broken in "Starry Starry Night." Rolie thinks if he and Zowie can stay up for Clanky Claus, he might be able to fix it. In "Snowie," the Olie's fake snowman comes to life for a fun adventure in the snow, and "'Twas the Night Before Christmas" gets more than a few unusual changes when Pa reads it in "Jingle Jangle Day's Eve." --Doug Thomas ... 5-0 out of 5 stars If you like Rolie you'll like this video
For some crazy reason I like this show. I am an adult and its so cute that I watch it with my children. It has a quirky quality to it that makes it fun to watch. I laugh with them! Purchase this and you will become a fan of Rolie and his family!

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable, cute - perfect for pre-schoolers
What a cute Christmas spoof with adorable short segments that are perfect for the attention span of pre-schoolers. Colorful story, appealing music, and charming robot characters appear in this magical and intriguing world. Fun, extended family interacts respectfully. Our kid viewers related to the young characters - whether they were just having fun, loving the snow, or sometimes having an accident. They commented: "I loved the snow story." "I love to think about things in the future. Maybe we'll all have robot families in our families." Great for 2 to 5-year-olds.

3-0 out of 5 stars A secular, robotic Christmas
Christmas takes on a post-modern twist in this video companion to television's popular Rolie Polie Olie animated series. I'll admit being charmed by the concept of "Clanky Claus" and the revised "Twas the Night Before Christmas."

But I can see how the complete secularization of this holiday might offend some parents. (Not kids... kids love this video!) Jingle Jangle Eve?

5-0 out of 5 stars so cute!
My two year old love Rolie Polie Olie so much. This video is a super fun filled adventure. It's bright and colorful and a great learning experience. This video contains four episods. My favorite is the story about how the whole family and Billy make an ice rink in the backyard on a hot day. They use their imaginations and cool off ice skating and playing hockey! It's very cute!! Hats Off!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great show and not just for Christmas
This is a 32 minute Rolie Polie Olie tape! That's 8 minutes longer then all the other tapes. These stories are all top notch. The first one is about Christmas (Jingle Jangle Day) and the other three are not. The second story is about a really hot day where Dad makes an ice skating rink with one of his famous inventions. They all have lots of fun on the ice. The third story is about an ice cream planet that they visit and have tons of fun spinning in bowls, sliding on spoons and eating all the ice cream they can stand. The last story is about a falling lost baby star named Starry. They have to devise a way to get Starry back home to his mom and dad. A really cute tale! This is as good as Toddler entertainment gets! A must have. My 18-month-old girl thinks Rolie Polie Olie is better then Elmo and Barnet combined!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
What a video! This Rolie Polie Olie is one of my favorites. It's bright and colorful but also teaches kids a great message about people being different but the same. We all need to teach our children about important issue such as people with handicaps, like Wheelie! He has a wheel instead of legs but is just like everybody else! What a wonderful lesson for kids to know and practice. I am so very impressed with Rolie Polie Olie. It's a very new, retro way for children to learn and have fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this tape!!
This tape is so incredible. It teaches so many concepts. First off, Billy is square and Olie is round. They switch bodies to see what it is like to be the other and learn to accept each other. Then, Wheelie, the robot with a wheel instead of legs comes to babysit. Olie and Billy start to treat him differently because they think he will not be able to do the same things they do because he has a wheel instead of legs. Wheelie has such a great attitude about himself, so much self acceptance. When olie asks how come he has a wheel, wheelie replies "thats just the way I was put together." Then he proceeds to play in all the same games they do, with some modifications, and olie and billy think he is just great. This tape is so wonderful. It deals with being different, and learning that different is O.K. It shows kids that everyone has some differences and we are all important and not to judge. It shows kids that even if someone else is not like you, they still can do things like everyone else, but maybe just a little differently. Trust me, get it and watch it. If your child is an olie fan or not, they will love this tape, guaranteed!!

5-0 out of 5 stars I am not sure I get it but my 22 month old son loves it!
My son loves this video and has watched it many times. I found him pounding the tv screen yesterday. I am not sure what he was so worked up about but he was smiling (and I had a chance to eat my lunch!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
This one seems extra special. Sure it is still only 24 minutes long, but the stories are fabulous! Rolie and Billie play round and square games and even change bodies. There is a new guy called Wheelie with one wheel. He is older and really cool. He takes Olie and Zowie to the park to play. What a park! Full of fun roller skating and swings. They have a blast with Wheelie! This video teaches that differences are good in others and to learn to walk in each others shoes to appreciate those differences. I like the message! And this video stands out with it's extra special animation and activities. A must have! ... Read more

The Olies' world has its own Easter traditions, centering on "Springy Chicken," a fair-weather fowl who shows up, lays eggs in carefully prepared backyard nests, and takes wing, leaving the robot citizens to warm them. The first episode finds the Olies scrambling to clean their house in preparation for the holiday chicken, with father dressing in full-feather regalia and performing the traditional strut across the yard. But the hen doesn't show up until the title episode, in which she lays her egg, but doesn't return in time, leaving Rolie and company the responsibility of cornering and caring for the runaway chick. The last episode, "Always Chasing Rainbows," keeps with the spring theme as Dad rescues his children from a rainy day inside by organizing a search party for the end of the rainbow. This 24-minute tape based on William Joyce's children's books provides gently goofy entertainment for children from 2 to 5. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun.
This is a very cute tape dealing with spring. It doesnt really have much educational value, but is so adorable and wholesome. My son loves the "springy chicken" and laughs so much during this tape. He is 2 1/2 and needs a break from all the learning tapes. Very sweet tape and I would definelty recommend it because it even makes me laugh..too cute.

5-0 out of 5 stars so cute!
This Olie video is another great time....it's about Easter and how the spring chicken lays a luck egg....it's a funny story with bright and colorful characters!! It teaches kids about taking care of things that are precious....My son loves it!

5-0 out of 5 stars My 18-month-old's current favorite
This is a cute 24 minute show! There are three 8 minute stories. Two with an Easter chicken laying a good luck egg and chick, and one story of chasing and catching a rainbow that is really cute. The video is very colorful and entertaining to watch. The computer graphics in this one seemed to be inproved over last years tapes. My daughter really likes Rolie Polie Olie above Elmo and Barney these days! I only wish these tapes were of normal 55 minute length! Rolie will have a full length movie this summer to look forward to though. ... Read more

An ill-fated attempt to capture a wishing star as a gift for their parents leads Rolie and Zowie into a musical outer space venture that brings a pair of lost twins into their lives in the multicolored robotic family's second feature-length outing. The baby bots have inadvertently left their dwelling, a fantasy foster home more akin to amusement park than institution. When Rolie and Zowie bring the misplaced babies back to their home planet, Mom and Dad are willing to give up the Family Fun Day Parade in order to track down the "mothership." The intergalactic road trip results in the discovery that the infants need a good adoptive home. The parents offer verbal agreement (no red tape or exorbitant fees here!) and it's back home in time for the parade in this sweetly unjaded 68-minute movie from the folks at Disney Playhouse. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful with the arrival of second child!
My 2 year old loves Rolie Polie Olie and with the arrival of his little brother it helped explain that his brother is part of his "forever family". I was very pleased with this dvd, as am I with every Rolie Polie Olie video, I just wish more were available on dvd, (for my 2 year old's portable dvd player)!

2-0 out of 5 stars alas, very disappointing
We love Rolie Polie Olie, but this movie is not up to par. Turning Gloomius Maximus into a good guy was a fine ending for Defender of Fun. Including him -- with a different accent badly done by a different and less good actor -- as part of the plotline in this one was a saccharine mistake. The adults were gritting their teeth throughout, not the case with the others. Here's hoping Springy-Time Fun is good!

5-0 out of 5 stars We love the Polie family!
Although not as good as the original Polie movie, Baby Bot Chase carries over the good clean fun. My daughter does not get to watch much television or movies because most are so inappropriate. However, the Polies are fun, upbeat, positive, overcome challenges with problem solving, they work together with family and friends, and there is no violence or shouting. I don't mind that my little one is 'addicted' to the Polie family movies!

Also, we bought the VHS version this time, but wish we'd gone with the DVD. The DVD does a much better job of displaying the amazing graphics in the film.

5-0 out of 5 stars groovy, wonderful, fun for everyone
Our family loves "Olie Olie" as my three year old calls him. The tv show, the movies, we love them all. So its probably unfair of us to write a review, but here goes: Baby Bot Chase is great. Its just great family stuff. The clear sense of family is something that my wife and I love, and we think its the thing our kids love best, too, even if they can't articulate it. Cootchie and Coo are great new additions to the cast! Aand as always, the best, most imaginative animation anywhere

5-0 out of 5 stars Our family loved it!!
This is good, wholesome family entertainment. As soon as the movie ended, my 4 year old daughter wanted to watch it again. Her favorite part was the diaper changing machine, she wishes that our house had one so she could change her brothers diaper. My favorite character was the Elvis look alike Uncle.

This movie had something for everyone, good music, fun characters and interesting visuals. I highly recommend this movie for any family.
