5-0 out of 5 stars Pilates Challenge
Diane Ramirez takes Pilates to an entirely new level. If you have made it through workouts by Karen Voight and Jennifer Kries, you are ready for Diane Ramirez. She has created one of the most challenging Pilates workouts I've ever tried and she increases the intensity by using a ball and exercise band.

This program replicates the exercises performed on a Pilates Reformer Machine. Melissa Rivera joins Diane at the beach for an inspiring workout in the sun.

Main Sections:

Breathing Instruction
Creative Foot Exercises
Forward Bends
Roll-ups with a band
Arms
100s
Ball Workout
Cores Strength
Upper Body
Supine & Side Leg Series

Throughout the exercises, Diane gives careful instruction and explains the placement of the ball and exercise band. Roll-ups become even more challenging while holding more weight and having a ball and exercise band to work with helps you to concentrate on the moves in a more intense way.

Recommended for Intermediate and Advanced Pilates enthusiasts. If you have a small soccer ball or any weighted ball and an exercise band, that is all you really need for this workout.

Diane Ramirez impressed me with her caring and precise instruction style. She also has a pleasant voice and a inner joy that speaks of peace and years of healing choices. I felt invigorated and energized after completing this workout. The boats sailing by in the background also created an environment that made me feel like I was on a vacation. This workout was filmed on location in San Diego, CA.

This is not your typical toning workout: Dynamic Toning--inspired by yoga, dance, and Pilates more than weight training--focuses on balance, alignment, and core conditioning as well as strength and flexibility. This 60-minute video includes three different "precision toning" workouts, done barefoot, with background rhythms from live drummers. Instructor Marion Gotto clearly explains the sometimes complicated positions and movements.

Workout 1, Total Toning (20 minutes)
The moves are slow and controlled. The choice of exercises makes it seem more like a ballet warm-up than a toning workout, however, with the exception of a Pilates abdominal series.

Workout 2, Upper Body Toning (21 minutes)
Very light weights (1 to 3 pounds) in nontraditional exercises. For example, hold your arms straight out in front and do slow biceps curls from this position, curling your wrist to touch your shoulders at the end, meanwhile lifting the heels to add the challenge of balance. Pushups finish out this segment. This isn't a well-rounded workout--your shoulders will get more work than other muscles.

Workout 3, Abdominal Toning (19 minutes)
Pilates-based, core conditioning exercises for the abs. You won't find a single traditional crunch here. Instead, you're working your deepest abdominal muscles with exercises such as roll-ups and a variety of exercises done on your back with shoulders and legs lifted. --Joan Price ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Pilates
This is so far removed from anything like true Pilates that I believe it should not be listed when "Pilates" is used to search for videos. This is an American-style, Aerobic-type workout video which is fine if that's what you want. The only relationship it has to Pilates is a few of the postures you hit for about 10 seconds each, but not in any way can you say that they are done the way that a trained Pilates instructor would do them. A grave disappointment!

2-0 out of 5 stars Didn't feel very effective to me....
Having used 'The Firm' tapes regularly for more than a year, I decided to give Pilates a try for a change in workout.I tried this tape for the first time this morning and was for the most part, unsatisfied. The way the instructor chants with the beat of the drums in the backround is thoroughly annoying, and the workout left no part of my body feeling...well...worked.Maybe the focus on the upper body was OK, but I didn't have any trouble with the ab or total body sections. It felt like a very long stretching session which should have lead to some hard work!

Maybe that's the point?Am I missing something here?Maybe I'll try some different tapes...I just don't see what's so fantastic about Pilates!

5-0 out of 5 stars Exercise and stress relief in one tape
Excellent combination of dance and pilates inspired exercises thatprovides not only a very effective low impact workout but requires focusand concentration that allows for mental stress relief as well.I sawresults very quickly with this tape in the way of a more toned and flexiblebody as well as eventually being able to complete the entire tape withouttaking any rest stops (oh those burning abs and hamstrings).Having takenmany modern dance classes as well as studying pilates, this tape seems tocapture both aspects quite well in a 60 minute format (three 20 minuteroutines). It provides a thorough full body workout that incorporatesstretching and strengthening at the same time thus eliminating the need foradditional "warm up" and "cool down" sections. It isthe only exercise video I have ever purchased that has actually given me asense of accomplishment and that I look forward to using on a regularbasis.I would highly recommend this tape for people who are looking for acomplete, effective, yet relaxing workout without any of the bone jarring, high impact moves. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant DVD
I really enjoyed this disc. The old clips of Joseph Pilates were hilarous (the man was really into his conditioning,no doubt)
I found the one on one instruction with Romana to be of a higher standard than even Stott or Mari. The two main artist/practitionals were moses urbano(who was a diasapointment-the guy appears to be a very poor polites person.I wouldnt want instruction from him)
Kathi ross-nash(excellent pilates person. She carried out the main workout)

All in all,the video showed excises that are missing from all the other dvds/videos out there. The main workout is only 13 minutes-consisting of the advanced repoitore workout but leaving out exercises like scissors in the air, bicycle, shoulderbridge, spinetwist, swimming, legpulldown, legpullup,
kneelingsidekick, mermaid. But the push-ups series and accompaining
stretch are a delight to watch and perform.
This shouldntbe your first disc/video though, its not in a newbie format.I only watch this for the instructions and the extraclips. Its a keeper though.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good beginner's workout
*Overall:An interesting, but short, DVD for beginners to promote interest in Pilates, with some intermediate/advanced exercises.

As I will never be able to study in New York or take intensive private lessons, I found this DVD to be a great opportunity to learn a small part of the real Pilates method from the best there is.Although I was a little disappointed that the exercise shown in the cover photo was not performed anywhere in this DVD, Romana is fun to watch and her instruction is invaluable. The 'workout with Kathi' section contains basically the same exercises that Romana goes through in 'one-on-one with Romana', but with the transitions so you can follow along a little easier. The advanced workout shows beginners another level of what can be achieved, and also demonstrates additional exercises that get left out of simpler programs like Mari Winsor's series.Proper form is continually emphasized here, and Romana shows that even the top instructors can still improve theirs!

3-0 out of 5 stars "E" for Effort
This video is good, but there's only one workout. There are many videos now that have several levels. I like to 'grow' with a video to make progress. How can you increase your skill level by watching a single advanced workout? Also, it's good to return to intermediate levels sometimes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still Inspired
I'm the granddaughter of Romana Kryzanowska, and I've been surprised by a few of the not so favorable reviews some folks have issued here.I think this video series is great, if you're a beginner and have not had much exposure to the Pilates method, then this is a great way to start the learning process and have something you can follow at home. From what I can tell, many individuals who possess more experience with Pilates than the average person or are instructors by trade have very lofty expectations and are looking for a video product that will help them learn more advanced exercises or become better Pilates teachers.Simply put, these folks are missing the boat; with the exception of the Mat Challenge Workout video, this series is geared towards beginners or folks who are new to Pilates, not certified instructors or experienced students. As my grandmother tells you at the very begging of each video, this series wasn't designed to replace a private lesson with an instructor, let alone a seminar of any kind. This is because you can?t put your hands on someone or adapt to their specific body type or ensure the student is applying the appropriate rhythm and dynamics on tape like you can in person. Also, the vast majority of Pilates exercises should be learned and practiced under the direct supervision of a certified instructor, otherwise individuals can take on unnecessary risk when trying to work out at home. While later videos may focus on more advanced pieces of Pilates equipment and exercises for more experienced Pilates students and teachers, this series does not.My grandmother has always been reserved about providing instruction through video, for one simple reason...SAFETY.As a result, her video series takes into account beginners are most likely to buy and use videos; therefore Safety was the primary driver of the exercises that were selected and taught in the first series. If you?re new to Pilates, buy it and begin your Pilates journey in a safe manner, while learning more about Joseph Pilates and Romana Kryzanowska in the documentary; experienced instructors and students get yourselves to the studio and take a lesson with a certified instructor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional spine corrector instruction
This video is a great way for everyone to learn to use the spine corrector.Three levels -- beginning, intermediate & advanced -- are demonstrated continuously throughout the entire video.Master Teacher Kathy Corey admirably leads this well-balanced total body workout, which personifies the modern, dance-based approach to Pilates pioneered by Ron Fletcher. It's by far the best and most diverse spine corrector video that I've seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars West Coast Pilates Spine Corrector video
The sequence of exercises demonstrated in this spine corrector video are choreographed to create a flowing workout. The video shows how to execute the exercises safely and effectively, with just the right number of repetitions to insure that you feel what you are suppose to feel. Each exercise is viewed on a beginner, intermediate and advanced level so you can effectively progress with this video workout. The spine corrector is used to correct posture, stretch the spine and strengthen the core. This video shows you how the spine corrector can safely be used by anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not so simple
This 45-minute tape is all yoga- there are no recognizable Pilates movements, but an emphasis on stabilization and alignment are the basis for the "Pilates-infusion" claim.

While I enjoyed this tape, I wouldn't use it as a "Level 1" or "Beginner" tape unless you already come into your workout with some flexibility. If you aren't somewhat naturally flexible, some of the moves will be frustrating for you. Pigeon, for example, which is usually very challenging for yoga novices, is followed up with Screaming Pigeon. While the latter is modified, you still need quite a bit of hip flexibility to feel comfortable here. "Simple" is a bit of a misnomer here.

The good outweighs the bad though. This a great tape for opening up your shoulders, back and hamstrings, and while you do feel like you're working here, you also end the tape feeling very relaxed and refreshed.

Overall, this is a nice, non-introspective yoga practice. However, don't let this be your very first foray into yoga.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
This is a 45 minute tape, it's meant to be aimed at beginner level yogis, I am not beginner level - have the level 3 Body and Soul which is vinyasa flow - quite tough and sweat inducing and can handle it pretty wel. This is a different mood. It is a nice flow of yoga poses, most of which are very stretchy, you do move in flows from cat to down dog quite a lot which warms you nicely but it is definitely a deep stretch session, not a workout. Just what I wanted for certain days. Lots of upper body stretches and nice hip openers, felt great afterwards - the 1instructor is excellent and gives great cues. Highly recommended ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A nice change for Pilates beginners
The two parts of this workout video are quite different. First, Jillian Hessel leads a morning workout, beginning with breathing exercises sitting on a chair and moving on to a gentle mat workout. It's all very easy to follow and as a pretty unfit Pilates beginner I kept up with everything, except the criss-cross ab work, but I'll get there. You won't feel the burn exactly, but you will wake up and gently strengthen your powerhouse. Finally Jillian gets you standing up and balancing--a really good feeling as you get to check how centred and aligned you are after that deceptively simple workout!

Ana Caban's PM workout is billed as "challenging" and it certainly is--both because her moves are more difficult and she is less friendly, a bit more aloof that Jillian (maybe if you knew Ana's other videos you'd feel more rapport with her), and because her cuing is not exactly aligned with the way she moves--it's actually easier if you don't watch her. For me, this workout is too intense for bedtime.

Both workouts are shot in Maui on a beautiful beach, with pleasant music and voiceovers (and actually Ana's voiceover is quite neat if you don't get confused by the picture). They are ideal for short workout days, or days when you do some real cardio/aerobic work as well. Gentle and satisfying. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not What It Could Be
For over thirty years I've taken lessons from Romana's students, and sometimes from Romana herself. I've often watched Romana teach. She is a wonderful person. This video unfortunately does not live up to Romana's greatness. What's strange is that Romana only teaches a little bit. So, it's really not an instructional video. In addition, the exercise titles, which cover the entire screen, interrupt the exercises themselves so it's hard to feel a sense of flow. The demonstrators look great but there are some obvious mistakes recorded on video.

2-0 out of 5 stars Oh Well...
This video has good old timey footage of Joseph Pilates teaching Romana. They are both very inspiring. This archival film is probably the best part of the video, because the workouts seemed under practiced. The workouts didn't flow smoothly and strongly with confidence and style. I felt inspired to continue my Pilates practice, but I wasn't sufficiently instructed about what I should do or feel during the exercises.

Although inspiration is definitely a very good quality, I thought I would be taught the Pilates method more thoroughly. For instruction, I would recommend some of the other Pilates videos on Amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars great to learn and follow
really enjoyed learning the history and tghen the techniques-thanx

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best as a workout but inspirational
The documentary about Joseph Pilates and Interviews with Romana are very inspirational and even funny a little bit, that really makes you wanna practice after you saw what an 80 year old woman can do, but the workouts aren't the best, it has a longer workout with romana at a slower pace and explantions which aren't the best and exersices aren't peformed at both sides so it's not fun to workout with it. The full 15 minute workout without romana is very fast paced and had very little repetitions to each exercise , there are some exercises you don't see often in pilates videos, like the snake and some transitions , there also a bonus standing warmup against a wall which reminded me of ballet and didn't seemgood for the knees. ... This DVD collection is alright, but I've seen others I like better. I began my teacher training through the Peak Pilates program, and I love the great benefits you can achieve from the method. Videos cannot replace private instruction, but some DVDs are good at explaining and demonstrating Pilates. If you are just beginning Pilates, you might want to try "Pilates for Dummies." This is definitely a good introduction. If you want a wide ranging menu of excellent mat workouts try "Pilates Complete for Everyone." If you want the most traditional Pilates with complete workouts showing basic-advanced workouts try "Classical Pilates."

2-0 out of 5 stars Forgive me if I am wrong
But isn't Daria Pace, who wrote one of the good reviews, the granddaughter of Romana Kryzanowska and a teacher of Romana's Pilates?

Truly, this DVD series leaves much to be desired. As anyone who bought the full collection knows, the beginning of each DVD is the same. The workouts are flawed in presentation - didn't they rehearse? - and lack the quality of instruction I expected from such a production.Considering that these DVDs feature Romana and some of the best Pilates practitioners in the world, it is a crying shame that they aren't any better than they are, and that Romana's own granddaughter has to deny her heritage to promote them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, the real deal!
I feel that after wasting lots of money on Pilates videos, I finally got what I always wanted.A real workout and real understanding of Pilates.Fantastic!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not My Way
I began my Stott Pilates training 6 months ago, and someone told me to get this 4 DVD set because it features the well-known Romana Kryzanowska. Since I never studied with Romana, I thought this 4 volume video set would help round out my Pilatestraining. Although I'm far from being an expert, I couldn't see the importance of this eminent Pilates instructor. There were moments when Romana was teaching, but she didn't teach enough to justify buying this 4 video set.

People say that Romana teaches the classical approach to Pilates. These videos are definitely different than Stott Pilates, but I couldn't comprehend her supposed brilliance. She made me laugh (I used my Powerhouse) a couple of times when she was strict with a demonstrator.

I'm sure that Romana is an excellent instructor, but the video didn't really express the specialness. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast, challenging, and fun
I actually enjoyed this DVD quite a lot, although there are two things I must warn about first. One, this is not a good introduction to the Pilates method. The movements are done very quickly and there isn't much explanation. Two, many of the exercises are not traditional Pilates moves at all. There were many exercises I'd never seen and a few that usually show up ("the hundred") were absent. This is more of a fusion than Pilates...but it still works your core.

The movements are done very quickly.I was so surprised at how fast we did the roll ups--I think a little too fast to pay proper attention to form.Michelle moved rapidly from one exercise to the next.I was sweating by the end of this 30- minute workout, but I felt really good.

The exercises are divided into three levels each demonstrated by one of three women...1 being the easiest and 3 being the hardest. All three women start out showing you the level one move. Then Michelle and the level three person move on to level two while the other person stays on level one. Then the level three person moves on to level three, while Michelle continues to do level two.I found the levels were inconsistant in difficulty. At times I could barely do level one; at other times I did level three. What I like about this is the ability to choose which you want to do for any given exercise.

I think this DVD is best for someone who is familiar with Pilates but wants a greater challenge.Because it gives me the three levels to choose from, I can challenge myself without being overwhelmed with exercises I simply can't do, as are found on some intermediate DVDs.I can do all of them at at least level one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hate Pilates...like this.
This pilates just moves through at an unexpected pace.Usually I'm bored by it.I'm not sure of how effective it will be, but I liked it.Some of the exercises I could do at level 3 and some only at level 1, but it's all there to pick and choose as you need to.Instructor is very clear as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy, fast paced, effective
This DVD is great because I never have enough time to get sick of an exersize.Just when I feel like I can't do another one we are ready to move onto the next exersize. All of the changing and simple exersizes make this program seem to go fast and make me feel great afterward.
My only complaint so far is that it says on the cover that there is a bonus eating plan booklet inside and there was not.I was dissappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars back injury & pilates
I have back problems and it is a vicious cycle trying to exercise and not being able to because other exercises would be to painful.I have tried other tapes and found I could only do some exercises. There are three levels to this tape and before you know it you are done.It is the shortest half hour exercise I have ever done.I feel energetic, streched out and looking forward to the next time I do the exercise routine.I recommend this for everyone who needs to flatten their abs and strenthen thier lower back muscles. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Flow of Movements
Are you looking for a video to strengthen the "powerhouse" area of your body? That area from which all movements should begin. Karen has designed this beautifully and as you zero in on your abdominals, you also focus on strengthening you back.

This is a 50-minute ALL-floor workout. You alternate between abdominal sculpting and simple back-strengthening and stretching moves to create a more balance and stable center. Karen combines the teachings of Joseph Pilates, yoga, and ballet with her own body-sculpting techniques.

"Imagine your body, no matter its shape, having the posture, lightness and elegance of a dancer." ~Karen Voight

This will help you create a more stable center. You will find yourself sitting up taller and this particular video left me lying on the floor watching the second half because after you finish this workout, you know you have worked out.

There is a small bonus section which shows how you can incorporate the Resist-a-Ring into your workout. I didn't find that part of the video that appealing as there was no music and you would have to remember how to do all the moves. It might be useful for those who are very experienced with the moves Karen has developed. I would have rather seen them incorporated into the video in a more organized fashion.

For this video you will only need a yoga mat and a towel. This helps to give you enough padding if you are working on a carpeted surface. Karen does sell a body reform mat if you are working out on a hard floor.

If you love this video, you will also enjoy Core Essentials and Total Body Training. They are all great fun and really motivate you with a great combination of creativity and enjoyable music.

I feel completely relaxed after doing any of the Body Reform videos. They have a wonderful balancing effect on my emotions and my mind seems to be free of distraction. As if the cares of the world just drift away with Karen's magical calming voice.

You will just love some of these moves if you work on the computer all day. It is amazing how tight your shoulders and chest can become. This workout will open out your chest and stretch that tired back.

Definitely Intermediate in some exercises, but mostly this is for anyone. There is one move, you might want to consider skipping. It is the one where you are raising your back off the floor and you then raise one leg up into the air. It is tricky, tricky. I would not recommend it for anyone who is not practicing yoga on a regular basis!

Get ready for some tummy torture! This girl knows how to get you motivated. Just looking at her body makes me wish I had her motivation! She is just amazing. I can't wait for more Karen Videos. I want them ALL! And I am dying for her to make a really long and wonderfully relaxing stretch video. The one I have is good, but I would love to see her do a really creative outdoor video with tons of stretching. Something that would just help you drift away.

If you enjoy this video, look for The Method Videos. They have
similar movements and are a bit more advanced and intense.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for strengthening back & abs
This is a good workout if you are looking to focus on your back and abs. As someone who works out regularly, I would not choose this as my everyday routine. It is a good addition to help add variety to your workouts. I have back problems due to an accident and I find that if I don't use this on a regular basis, I can detect a decline in my overall back strength. This is one of my favorite workouts but that is largely due to the fact that I specifically have to target train my back and abs.

I find lots of workout videos to be lacking in the music area. The music is pretty decent in this video.

Karen is one of my favorites because she is not too annoyingly chipper.

5-0 out of 5 stars This workout left me feeling GREAT!
First of all, I want to note that although this workout is now being advertised as "Abdominals and Back Pilates," it was originally packaged under the name "Body Reform Abdominals and Back." This 44-minute, all-floor routine is a blend of Pilates, yoga, and traditional abs and back work. You'll find some classic Pilates moves such as the hundred and single leg circles, but many of the exercises are done with a twist--eg, modified corkscrew and modified teasers. Similarly, instructor Karen Voight incoporates movement into traditionally static yoga poses such as bridge and boat pose, and finally, she includes crunches and back work. The result is a smooth, flowing routine that will leave your entire body feeling thoroughly stretched and relaxed.

Although this workout is somewhat similar to the abs portion of Karen's Streamline Fitness video, it is more relaxing and less intense. However, during the last 8 minutes of the tape, Karen offers suggestions on how to incorporate her resist-a-ring (or other fitness ring) into the routine, which would definitely make it a more challenging workout. Karen is a great instructor who is warm and friendly while still providing excellent cuing and precise instructions on allignement. She works with an assistant who displays more advanced versions of the exercises for those wanting a greater challenge. I know that this is a workout which I will turn to frequently, and I highly recommend it to others of all fitness levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pilates-based
This video is not for the Pilates purist. This is for someone who wants to thoroughly strengthen and stretch through the torso. Unlike more traditional intermediate Pilates workouts, this is not a total body workout. Your legs and arms get some stretch, but not a lot by way of strength.

Having said that, Voight leads a challenging but relaxing workout. From Pilates matwork, she includes the Hundred, Roll Up (and Roll Down) variations, Single Leg Circles, Single Leg Pulls, a variation on the Double Leg Pull, the Spine Stretch forward, a variation on the Corkscrew, a variation on the Teaser, and the Seal. She also includes from yoga modified incline planks, cobra and locust as well as side twists. And of course, a couple of calisthenic crunches and reverse crunches.

Her sequencing works well. Before you can feel assaulted by a strenuous exercise, she stretches out the muscles you just worked and/or works an opposing muscle. Though she changes the order of the exercises, this is in keeping with most modern Pilates classes.

My biggest quibble is Karen's form on the Seal. As she rolls all the way back on her head, she tells you not to let your head touch the mat. She also looks like she's using a little bit more momentum than she should. Minor quibble since she does a very good job on the rest of the movements.

I know many find the stretching at the beginning and the end extensive, but I loved it, particularly the side stretches, which a lot of traditional ab workouts don't touch.

Pure Pilates? No. Effective and soothing core training? Yes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to a well-rounded workout plan
-- Karen Voight is a great teacher and very easy to watch, with no annoying mannerisms or giddy "motivational" behavior. This 50-minute routine is well balanced between abs and back.
-- Karen and her assistant show different levels of difficulty.
-- The only equipment you need is a mat, although there is a section at the end that shows how to incorporate a "resist-a-ring" into the workout.
-- No single workout is going to work the abs in all the ways they should work, so it helps to rotate this tape with other types of abdominal workouts. I especially like Tamilee Webb's "I Want Those Abs," Karen Voight's "Greated Weighted Workout" (which works the whole body and has an excellent abdominal section), "Callanetics," "Your Best Body -- Abs & More" with Keli Roberts, and kickboxing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Ab Crunching Fun!
I really enjoy this DVD. I keep hoping that Ana Caban will make an Advanced Pilates DVD and this is close. The focus here is on ABS for sure and it is a routine that can get some heat going.

I am an Ana Caban fan. She has a sense of humor, good imagery and a pleasant voice. There is a fun combination on this DVD that I hadn't seen before. I enjoy mixing this DVD in with other general Pilates routines for a little extra AB workout.

If you haven't done any Pilates, you probably shouldn't undertake this DVD. All Pilates targets the Abs--but this one even more, so if you're new to Pilates try her Beginner or Intermediate DVD first. Really. Form is so important. You don't want to hurt your back trying to get a flat tummy.

All I could ask is that this routine had gone on longer!

4-0 out of 5 stars A challenging Pilates mat routine
This video is led by Ana Caban, and it is probably her most challenging workout. In consists entirely of matwork and begins immediately with the hundred exercise.Ana then moves through a traditional matwork sequence, including moves such as the roll-up, the roll-over, rolling like a ball, the series of five, and the teaser. For many of the moves, Ana adds a more challenging twist--eg, performing several of the series of five exercises with no arms, doing the open-legged rocker with closed legs as well, etc.Because this is an abs-focused workout, the Pilates side kick series and back extension moves are not included.Ana ends the workout with a unique combination move which is a compilation of rolling like a ball, open-legged rocker, the teaser, and lowering down a rope; she then ends with a few brief stretches to bring the workout in at just under 24 minutes.Although Ana works out with an assistant, Tara, who shows modifications for some of the movements, this is an intermediate to advanced Pilates workout and should not be attempted by those new to Pilates.

4-0 out of 5 stars It really works on abs
It is difficult to get to do all the exercises that Ana Caban performs on the video but you can definetly feel the work on the abs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent but Advanced
I thought this dvd was excellent.I found that after I started doing the workout that I was more relaxed throughout the day.It was hard to do the first time because my body is definitely not as flexible as Ana's but I did find that my body was much more relaxed. In fact, it is kind of addicting so when others drink coffee to wake up, I now find myself doing Pilates. No DVD will be perfect but Ana's is definitely one of the best.

4-0 out of 5 stars A challenging, advanced abdominal workout
This workout is not for Pilates beginners!I am familiar with Ana Caban's beginning and intermediate mat workouts, yet I found about 40% of the exercises in this DVD to be too difficult on the first try. However, a second actor does an easier version of the moves, which you can follow until you are ready for the more difficult version. If you are not focused on using your abdominal muscles for all the movements, or if your abs are not very strong, you will also feel it in other muscle groups, such as the legs. That said, Pilates Abs Workout is focused and efficient.

Ana Caban is a good instructor - she reminds you to focus on your Pilates form and breathing without being annoying. The workout setting is a pleasant beach scene, and the music is a great background tune that flows well with the pace of the workout. The only reason I would not give this DVD 5 stars is that it is not for everyone.I would recommend it only to those who are already familiar with Pilates basic exercises and concepts and are looking to focus on the abs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the time-constrained
I'm new to the pilates game (1 year) and bought Hilary's Basic Pilates tape to start. At 35 years old and in fair shape (I had no workout routine previous to this but do a lot of running around "mommy stuff"), I was very happy to do some of the moves.I was also very pleased with Hilary's very easy instructions and beautiful backgrounds and after 2 months I jumped to her Advanced tape.

Although the flow of the tape was challenging at first, it moves very fast requiring some background knowledge of basic pilates or watching the tape several times, I kept at it.The first couple months I did the routine everyday until I memorized it.Now, after a year, I haven't tired of the tape because Hilary emphasizes quality with every move and I can challenge myself each time to do better. There's always room for improvement with these moves!Hilary is encouraging and the voice overs are clear and easy to understand. As with the first tape, the background is beautiful and relaxing with candles and gentle guitar sounds.

During the tape, along with Hilary's voice-over instruction, there are titles to let you know what pilates position you are starting. And at 20 minutes, you will do lots of them.Being a mother of 2, this was the perfect tape to squeeze into my day to get my figure back. And speaking of which, if you do this everyday you WILL see results!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast-moving workout for the advanced Pilates student
Sometimes videos labelled as "advanced" are doable for those at earlier levels, but not this one; it is definitely designed specifically for the advanced Pilates student. You will need two prerequistes in order to successfully complete this video:1) familiarity with the entire range of Pilates movements, including advanced exercises such as the Jacknife, and 2) enough pre-existing core strength to allow you to perform the aforementioned advanced moves at a fast pace.

This advanced workout is performed in the traditional Pilates style, which means there are a very low number of repetitions (even less than most other Pilates videos, sometimes only 2-3) combined with a flowing pace to the workout. Each movement flows into the next without any pauses, which means that you are in constant motion for the entire duration of this workout. While this IS how Joseph Pilates intended these exercises to be performed, it can make the video a bit difficult to follow, despite Hilary Burnett's excellent voiceover cuing.Hilary provides little explanation of how to perform each movement, but she does offer metaphors to assist you.At just over 20 minutes, this is a very good Pilates routine for those looking for a fast-paced, very challenging workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars No time wasted here!
This is an excellent advanced pilates workout. The tape does not waste time with promotions or long winded intros.Hillary covers a wide range of pilates moves and I feel stronger and more flexible each time I do this tape. This is definitely an advanced workout, but intermediate level exercisers can do most as well.I highly recommend this video.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible, Not Challenging
With an "advanced" title, I thought this would be difficult.Instead, I did not even feel like I worked out.The tape is very rushed and only does 1 or 2 reps before quickly moving on.If you are looking for a challenging pilates tape, I would not recommend this one.Instead, check out the Stott Pilates tape.
