5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is one of my first videos and I absolutely love it. I use it every single day! I always had slightly heavier lower body. After using this tape for about a month i can really see muscles definition in my thighs, buns and definitely abs. After seeing the results it motivates me to exercise even more.
The timing of the tape is perfect for my busy life - 30 minutes.
I would say this tape is perfect for beginner / intermediate. I have been using this tape for about 2 month and it is getting a little boring and the exercises are not as difficult. To make it harder I am now using the ankle weights - it's like using the whole new tape.
The instructor is very good. She does all the counting and helps you with breathing. There is also a modification for each exercise - if the exercise is too difficult, you can always "follow Betsy" for an easier version.
Plus, the DVD included a bonus 10-minute total body work out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GENTLE TONING WORKOUT :-)
I received this video for Christmas last year (2003). It's great! I've never done pilates before, but if you keep trying to do the moves, it will get easier. That is what I like the MOST !! You can see yourself improving, and you will definitely see more definition in your abs, legs, and stomach. (It's really motivating to see when you're 175lbs and 5' 2"). The first part concentrates on your belly, abs, and legs, in 10 minute segments. The second part incorporates all body parts. I usually do the first segment & skip the second one only because I'm lazy. But I HAVE done the second part of the video before, and it's a little intense if you're still not used to moving certain body parts. YOU WILL NOT LOSE WEIGHT BY USING THIS VIDEO ALONE. What it does is tones your muscles. Ya'll should see my legs! I would (and do) use this along with an aerobic form of excercise in your weekly regimen. Well worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout video!
I've never done Pilates before but have done Yoga, ballet, bellydancing, aerobics, cycling, running...well you get the idea. I like to do different activities so it doesn't get so "routine". I decided to check out Pilates and picked this up because I had a coupon for it. I thoroughly enjoyed this workout. The instructor explained the moves and she was easy to follow. I will definitely be incorporating this DVD along with her other Pilates DVD (Fat Burning Pilates) into my routine.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this Pilates DVD
I have just recently started Pilates. I read a lot of reviews of MANY Pilates DVDs that are sold at Amazon.com. I bought this one because of the reviews, and I would like to say that the reviews are correct!
As a beginner, I found this very easy to follow along. I did not think that anyone was annoying (ie Denise Austin) or talked too much. After the workout (I did all 3 segments at once), I felt really good.
I am actually lookig forward to doing this DVD again, which is more than I can say about other exercise videos/DVDs I have purchased.
I would recommend this DVD to anyone interested in Pilates.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
I love this work out ..... I never stuck to a diet or excercise but this i do!! It is 100% worth your money.... You dont have to do the thigh section or butt section or ab section... YOU PICK!!! I do the ab section and i have done it 2 days in a row took a break one day and did it today and already feel the difference. Do not expect a difference if you dont follow the breathing its major...... I am a huge fan of this and am considering buying more of the collection! ... Read more

This video presents two 15-minute workouts with an unusual approach that combines strength training, yoga, ballet, and the work of Joseph Pilates, concentrating on posture, abdominal strengthening, and balance. The best part is the postural and abdominal strengthening you'll get throughout the workout if you concentrate on the instructions. The first segment uses light weights for upper-body sculpting, with most of the work focusing on the shoulders. (The instructor claims you're working chest and arms, too, but because of the way you're holding the weights and the effect of gravity, the shoulder muscles are supporting the weights most of the time.) This might be an interesting cross-training activity if you're doing traditional strength training in addition, but it isn't as effective for upper-body strengthening as the standard weightlifting exercises you'll see in many videos. The second workout targets the legs, buttocks, and hips without weights, and here the workout shines. Kries has you stand upright, abdominals high and buttocks tight, doing slow leg lifts to different directions. This balance work is exceptionally effective to strengthen the torso and lower body. If you like the concept of deep abdominal training plus work on posture and balance, start with Precision Toning. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I never put off doing this workout!
Truly, I look forward to doing this tape. I don't procrastinate or avoid my workouts when I know I'm using Precision Sculpting. How much higher can praise get for an exercise session? Two to three-pound weights are suggested, but aren't absolutely necessary; since the exercises are isometric, you can get a good toning workout even without weights. The movements work the body effectively without endless repetitions, and Jennifer Kries is the best instructor I have ever watched, hands down. I can't say enough good things about her style and professionalism. She's a joy to work out with, and her Method Series videos have changed the shape of my body, when no other video or workout ever did. To sum up: quiet but encouraging instruction, quality over quantity of repetitions, no annoying perkiness or music, visible results with continuous use. Need I say more?

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast and challenging
Precision Sculpting is a great companion to the rest of the Method Precision series, focusing on the upper body. While you won't get huge biceps from doing these excercises, they're definitely challenging and strenuous, especially the push-up series, and you will get toned nicely. I like this video because the other Method tapes don't have a lot of upper body work, so alternating this tape in twice a week gives me that extra push to get a full body toning. The only problem with the tape, as with all Method tapes, is that the explanations get old after a while; be prepared to use your fast-forward button once you get used to the tape, because while thorough explanations are good when you first start, you won't need them after a few sessions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Previous review inaccurate....
No disrespect, but she must have been thinking of a differnt tape. The instructor does not wear a headset at any point in the tape, and there are no aerobic moves whatsoever....
This tape is awesome, my favorite workout tape. No jerky movements at all. The routine is smooth and focused and very effective. You will feel the results the first time you use it. Jennifer Kreis is great. The first half is an upper body workout with light weights, the second half is a fabulous and fun workout that really targets the abs and glutes. I agree with some of the other reviewers, the "push-up" routine is the best, and don't worry you don't have to be able to do many traditional push ups to do it at all. It's very unique and you really will feel taller after this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite workout!
This is bar-none the most enjoyable tape I own. You feel instant gratification after this workout. Perfect!

1-0 out of 5 stars Non-dancers need not apply!
If you've never taken a dance class this video is not for you! The moves are complicated and change very quickly. The instructor in the second part (weights and aerobics) screws up and subsequently the class seems less than synchronized much of the time. The third part's instructor speaks too low to be heard so she wears a headset microphone. As a result, you hear every breath and "popping p" throughout the section.
I'm sorry I bought this tape. Try The Firm videos instead, they really work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good, if a little distracting
Ms. Garcia is a fine teacher. However, I have to ask why she wears so very little on this DVD. I find that her beautiful body, covered only by bra and shorts, distracts me hugely when I am trying to follow her exercise instructions. She is a very fine looking woman, and if she wants us to listen to what she has to say, then she needs to cover up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners
I am very new to both Pilates and the Stability Ball, and I think this is a great workout for beginners. It's challenging enough that you won't quickly master all the moves or get bored with a too-simple, monotonous routine; but yet it's not so difficult that you're discouraged. It's easy to feel how you're improving - in both strength and flexibility - with every session.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific pilates ball workout
i m new to pilates and the ball. i find this dvd great for me. i m going to lose the had-two-babies weight and gain back my muscle. this video is getting me on my way. garcia, the instructor, is very clear and the video really flows. the exercises start with the easiest position and then quickly follows with the more challenging position. for me the best thing is how fun it is to work with the ball (vs. the mat) and the flow of instruction.

the dvd offers more options than the video--you can turn off the instructors commentary and work with just the music at your own pace(kick it up a notch). also there is a bonus workout.

i m really enjoying the workout and only wish this particular instructor did an intermediate workout.

3-0 out of 5 stars Relaxing, invigorating workout for beginners
This is a gentle, stretching core workout. I have been using the stability ball for quite some time, but I didn't think this workout pushed my limits. I would suggest it for a beginner, and anyone looking for gentle, stretching and pilates-based moves. The instructor is good, and explains breathing techniques which assist each move. I did break a light sweat doing this, and definitely increased my heart rate, but I think this workout would be best in conjunction with cardio. Most of the focus is on the core, and I would have liked to see some arms/chest/shoulders included.
The music is soothing and matches the pace of the workout. I'd do this workout again after an aerobic session, but on the whole it is not challenging enough. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Learner, Intermediate and Full Posture demonstrations
I bought this DVD after having used the Living Arts Basic Matwork DVD for about 2 months. I purchased Brooke Siler's The Pilates Body book at the same time.

The instructor's (Deason) approach to Pilates instruction seems to grow from a Yoga practice. The DVD starts with a 10 minute body-awareness session centering on breathing and movement during the breath. This is good for the overweight and provides a good foundation for the principles the workout is based on.

The workout sessions offer 4 workout POV's (beginner, moderate, or full and combined). I can keep up with the moderate but can't keep up with Deason, the full practice model, for the entire session. This is where the fourth view is useful, a longer shot where you can view all postures simultaneously (with some inserted close-ups that keep the camera position from becoming stale). PFW also does more reps of each exercise so this session is longer to perform.

Also, some postures have a 'Pilates tutor' section available. In movements where this feature is available a small figure doing 'The Teaser' appears in the lower right corner of the screen. The graphic signals the availability of a section on the disk that explains the posture for those who are new to Pilates. If you are a beginner to Pilates, please view these sections. PLEASE, don't follow the Full practice forms until you've been doing Piltes for a couple of weeks. You could hurt yourself. Better to start slow and stay with it than push to hard and and be sidelined by injury or burn out.

By now, you're thinking, 'So why did this guy only give the DVD a 3?' The style of PFW is more Yoga-centric, which is good for some but doesn't really hold my interest. I prefer the more standard instructor-led style of Ana Caban. Also, and I learned this after completing the Siler book, some of the exercices used in the DVD are modifications of actual Pilates mat workout practice. So if authenticity of technique is what you crave, this really isn't the right DVD.

Not to say that this isn't a good workout. It is. If you do the exercises as instructed you will feel it the next day. This is as it should be. So much of the Pilates work is isometric, you can always make the workout harder as you get stronger.

I would have given this work a 3.5 if I could.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Great Workout by Ms. Deason
I am new to Pilates, but have been using Suzanne Deason's Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss for a while now. I decided to try her Pilates for Weight Loss because I like the tranquility of her other videos and the way she takes the time to explain the benefits of the various movements. I feel this video offers an effective workout regardless of your fitness level. If you are new to Pilates, as I am, I would strongly recommend that you watch the video through a couple of times before actually beginning the workout, so that you can focus on the breathing techniques and instructions that Ms. Deason provides. The video is fast paced, but it is well worth the effort to learn the routine. Overall it provides an awesome workout for the abs and is a great way to start your day. I intend to use both the Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss and Pilates for Weight Loss videos in combination, as part of my overall weight loss program. I highly recommend this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite as a Beginner
I think that which VHS you prefer depends a lot on your temperment, just as much as
the quality of the workout. For Pliates and Yoga, I prefer straight-forward, calm and
pleasant instruction (nothing intrusive) like that of Suzanne Deason and Alan Finger.
On the other hand, for Aerobics, I prefer more animated instruction (even annoying
Richard Simmons to that of comatose Jane Fonda who is totally devoid of
personality). With that said, this VHS is my favorite of the 5 that I own (Pilates for Dummies-which I also like a lot and which I found to be invaluable for learning the exercises before
moving on to Suzanne Deason's VHS and the 3-SET of Mari Winsor-whom I can't stand-
she talks, actually, yells, incessantly and says little that is useful. She wastes half the time
making stupid comments and her tapes are nothing exceptional). I do recommend "Pilates
for Dummies" before doing this tape, because, if you are brand new to Pilates, I think that
you will be somewhat confused withour prior instruction. This tape is approximately 55 minutes of actual workout time. The first 10 minutes or so are devoted to "Awareness", awakening your muscles with various gentle exercises and easing you into the Workout. You then move on to the "Workout" which is about 40 minutes long. (I prefer a long workout to a 20 minute one) The tape ends with another 5 minutes or so of Yoga to relax you and make your back feel great. After the Bridge, you do the SideStretch and finish with the Hammock. There are 3 women doing 3 variations on each exercise. You follow whichever one you like according to your level of proficiency- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. Suzanne Deason makes you go slowly into each Pilates exercise (pose), one step at a time, you come out of each one the same way. If you do this properly (abdomen tightened - this is the KEY to reaping the benefits of Pliates) even the setup and easing out are pretty intense for a beginner like me. If I didn't like this VHS so much (as I do with her "Yoga for Weight Conditioning"), I'd give it no stars for lying about the weight loss part. I believe that using weight loss in her titles is a cheap ploy to get people to buy her tapes. That's my only complaint about her and her tapes. DO NOT expect to lose weight from this and DO NOT expect to see immediated results, although, you'll feel results right away. I find this workout to be both relaxing and invigorating, and, I feel great afterwards. I've been doing Pilates for about 6 weeks. I used "Pilates for Dummies" for 2 weeks, then switchewd to this tape. As a beginner, I love it (I do some intermediate and some advanced levels now). I can't say if I'll still find it enjoyable and challenging when I'm more proficient.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a workout, only for extreme beginners
I found this video to be definitely not for me. I have a little experience with Pilates, so the moves were much too basic. Even if I had no experience, there is minimal cardio benefit and is mostly used for strengthening abs. Even if you're interested in strengthening your core, I would HIGHLY suggest looking for another Pilates or yoga video. The pace for this one is much too slow and I found myself waiting much too long in resting poses for the next instruction.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good intro DVD, but you will grow out of it.
This DVD was my introduction to Pilates. I started with the "partially modified" level (medium difficulty) and after the first few times I was getting pretty good at the moves. Soon I noticed feeling more toned in areas, particularly in what they call the "core", such as my lower back and abs.

However, after a few months I was ready to try the advanced level and was disappointed to discover that, unlike the two lower levels, it's not possible to view just the woman doing the advanced moves on the screen - you have to have all three women on the screen, one doing the advanced, one the partially modified, and one the fully modified. It requires too much patience to hear the instructions for all three levels when I already know what I'm doing. So I am ready to try my next DVD, one that moves along at a faster pace.

In conclusion, I do not think you will be disappointed with this DVD, but you may find yourself outgrowing it. I suppose if you have some friends who have also expressed interest in pilates, you can pass it along to them when you're ready to move on.

Cheers! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars No Modifications for Pregnancy
I have to say I am very surprised by the overwhelming positive response to this workout listed on this site. I found there to be absolutely no modifications in this "Pregnancy" workout than in any other Pilates workouts. I was very uncomfortable with all the positions lying on your back, and I was advise to not do this workout past the first trimester. I had been doing Mari Windsors Pilates routine prior to pregancy and it's almost the exact same routine with no changes for the pregnant body. I was very disappointed and would not recommend this video for a PREGNANT woman.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend
This entire exercise video has worked for me through the first half of my second pregnancy. I eliminated many of the exercises in my third trimester but was able to do some of the video's "picture in picture" modified exercises that could be done sitting or on my side. I think they did a great job of modifying the more difficult exercises. I have never really been a person to exercise on a regular basis, so for me some of the exercises were difficult at first, but after a few weeks I was able to do most if not all of the exercises. This time I felt so good that I continued to exercise through my third trimester! I just had my baby, and can't wait to get back to it. I love Pilates!

1-0 out of 5 stars Unsafe
I can't believe that a physical therapist would recommend women be performing exercises on their backs past the first trimester. Horrible, painful and definitely unsafe after the first trimester.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring video - can't use past the 1st trimester
I waited in anticipation for this video. Got it and was thoroughly disappointed. You can't perform 95% of the exercises after the 3rd month of pregnancy as she begins each of them by instructing you to get on your back.(What was she thinking?) The exercises also appeared to be simply fruitless. But of course how would I know, I didn't perform any of the exercises. I just watched her and wondered, "Now how in the world is that supposed to keep anybody firm?" I simply put the tape in during my 5th month of pregnancy and felt totally taken advantage of for even spending the money.

1-0 out of 5 stars blah
blah, bored after doing this video, so bored i don't have much to say other than blah, this prenatal workout is blah blah blah, a bunch of hot air and more hot air, blah ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for new Momma's!
I LOVE this workout! I bought it on New Years Day and have been addicted ever since and doing it everyday. Ellen is the best instructor that I've encountered yet. Her voice is not annoying and she motivates and gives clear instructions. I had never done pilates before this video, but she gave me a pretty good understanding of how to use my muscles and breathe. I saw results the first week, mainly my legs, arms and thighs. The squats are working magic. This workout is good for beginners and not too difficult to follow. Everytime I use the video I get better. I'm more limber, energized, my waist is shrinking and my abs are getting defined. I love Ellen and I recommend this video to all you Momma's trying to get back into shape that don't have time to go to the gym. Give it a try, stick with it, you will see results fast.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Cardio, toning tease.
If you don't want to gain muscle in your legs then this workout is not for you. True, it isn't entirely pilates but then again, pilates wasn't made to be cardio. This video does an excellent job of incorporating the two. The instructor is my favorite. Its a pity she doesn't do more videos. The other women in the video have amazing and realistic looking bodies. They're fun to watch and definitely inspire.

One of my favorite aspects of the video is that I never got bored with it. Every time you are about to get restless Ellen incorporates a small but beneficial variation, such as an arm movement or changing the pace.

I didn't give it five stars for two reasons. One, the cardio portion isn't long enough. I wanted more! And secondly, the second half which is pilates mat work for toning, not long enough either. You got a taste of some pilates mat work but not enough to be considered a work out.

I would supplement this with Crunch's Pick Your Spot Pilates to cover the toning outside of your legs which will burn burn burn!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Kick-butt Workout!!!
This is one hell of a great workout!!! I felt challenged without feeling overwhelmed! It's great for days when I don't feel like getting on my elliptical trainer! The music is awesome and Ellen Barrett rocks!!! I will say that there isn't enough mat time at the end, so I usually supplement with Crunch Pick Your Spot Pilates. Awesome!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout!!
I have been looking for a tape/dvd that will let me get the most for a short time. I have 2 small kids and this makes it much easier to exercise and get it done correctly and quickly. I love it and can't wait to do it every day. It's actually addicting I think!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars good workout but doens't fit into my workout schedule
i already do the firm BSS2 and on my off days i need to do regular pilates. the cardio movements here don't let my body rest in between days of doing the firm. the instructor is really nice and energetic though! ... Read more

Pilates focuses on strengthening the core or midsection, so a Pilates-based abdominal workout is a natural. The first of the three 10-minute sessions led by instructor Keli Roberts utilizes many of the classic Pilates moves: curls, leg circles, the 100, criss-crosses, a teaser sequence, and swan dive. The second set combines some traditional mid-section exercises with Pilates resulting in a mix of sit-ups, the can can, leg stretches, scissors, and rollups. Stabilization is the goal of the final and most difficult series, starting with rolldowns from a standing position, pushups, and rollups back up again. Other exercises use the plank and side positions and require both skill and balance. Fortunately, one of Roberts's assistants demonstrates modifications. With so many variations crammed into each short set, beginners may benefit from watching the exercises first and making liberal use of the pause button as they learn. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe as an add-on for the experienced Pilates person
1) 10 minutes is just not enough time to get a meaningful workout, especially one like Pilates.

2) Definitely NOT for beginners, especially when she throws in more advanced moves (such as the Teaser) without even mentioning that they're not for beginners. Newbies can get discouraged if they don't realize that tougher moves are being randomly thrown at them.

3) The instructor is annoying.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quick & Effective
I just received this dvd but already i know that i am going to enjoy it.i have been doing pilates for 7 months & some of the exercises in workout 3 i had to modify (more for balance purposes than anything else).the three 10 minute sections go by quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great option for working your abs and entire midsection
Quick Fix Pilates Abs is an excellent exercise video for targeting not only your abdominal area, but also your entire midsection, or "core."The tape consists of three 10-minute ab programs which become progressively more difficult.Instructor Keli Roberts jumps right into the workout, offering good form pointers but not much detailed instruction. Therefore, prior familiarity with Pilates is a must for this workout, especially given that there are several challenging, intermediate/advanced level Pilates moves included (some modifications are shown).

Program 1 contains a classic Pilates matwork sequence, although the exercises are not performed in the traditional order.Keli alternates more accessible, beginner's level Pilates moves such as leg circles and the hundred with more challenging moves such as the shoulder bridge, the rollover, and modified teasers. In Program 2, there is a greater focus on obliques, beginning with the can-can and then moving through most of the exercises in the Pilates "stomach series," including single and double leg stretch, scissors, and criss-cross.This program also includes moves to work your back such as swimming and back extensions. The third program is the toughest by far, and it includes some quite challenging moves. This section begins with two sets of push-up and then continues with plank work both from a push-up position and from an elbows down position. This is also the only section which includes exercises from the Pilates side kicks series; these exercises really work not only your abdominals, but also your outer thigh/hip area.

It's important to note that there are no warmups/cool-downs included in this workout:each program is a full 10 minutes of intense toning work. This would be a very good video for anyone who enjoys Pilates and wants to some very different, concentrated Pilates routines.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout
I am a personal trainer and I'm thrilled to find a DVD with new and different ab exercises! The exercises are challenging for the intermediate exerciser and modifications are shown to make it easier for the beginner. Another great workout from Keli Roberts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout

4-0 out of 5 stars quick and to the point
The pilates method tape is a combination of yoga, resistance, light weights, stretching and the "side series". The excercises moved quick and I found this to be more yoga influenced rather than traditional pilates. I'm not sure if I am crazy about this tape yet. I love The Method - Pilates- Precision Toning tape I have not yet done the 3 Dimensional Toning yet but ....we will see.

5-0 out of 5 stars FLEXIBILITY,TONING AND A LITTLE LIGHT CARDIO.
This is a set of two (pilates, ballet and yoga influenced)videos. The first video is called 3 D toning which has a thirty minutes standing ballet/yoga section, which focuses on mainly hips and thighs,it then concludes, with twenty minutes of pilates mat core conditioning floorwork which concentrates on the abs and legs, this is my favorite video because it stretches me out and makes me feel elongated, flexible and like a dancer.
The second video has twenty minutes of upper body toning with light weights for your arms and chest,it then moves on to the lower body sculpting for your legs, then finally concludes with a yoga type workout with classical dance and stretching.
I recommend this two pack, for overall toning, and to increase flexibility. It is a good beginner to intermediate tape, however the dance moves can be a bit confusing at first but I would suggest watching a few time first, because with practice it can become very enjoyable once you get the moves down.
Advanced could also do it on a light toning day but if you were looking for a pilates/dance type workout to challenge you, then I would suggest getting Pilates Perfect Mix by the same instructor.
ACTUALLY GET ALL THREE!! if you love fusions you wont regret it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Do it.
Pilates is the right thing to do, and Classical Pilates is the right way to do it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterful
At first viewing, I was so mesmerized by Peter Fiasca's super-advanced workout that I watched it all the way through to the end.It was comparable to watching an athletic performance of dance.Such incredible strength and beauty...I had no idea that the Pilates method was so developed, and that one's technique could be so finely honed as Fiasca's.I am grateful to have discovered the Pilates technique, for it has made a dramatic improvement in my body and my life, and I am also indebted to Classical Pilates for producing such high quality technique videos which are educational, motivational and inspirational.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classical Pilates Super Advanced Workout is Ethereal!
This video is extraordinary for several reasons, yet first because the super advanced Pilates workout routine has never been filmed before. This is reason enough to buy the video. Yet master instructor Bob Liekens and soloist/director Peter Fiasca go far beyond just making this a first-time deal.Peter, who performs the workout, demonstrates this rarified Pilates routine with unparalleled precision, elegance, intense mental focus, physical strength, and good cheer.Peter is such a pleasure to watch while master instructor Bob Liekens conveys keen insights, creative images, and wonderful descriptions.Bob Liekens' voice engages the viewer as he brings even more life into the already fabulous exhibition.Bob instructs with unique brilliance and command of Pilates technique. If you are a certified Pilates instructor, or an enthusiast who is interested in knowing how vast the Pilates realm really is, this video is a must see. This workout indeed honors Joseph H. Pilates with impeccable devotion to keeping the method pure as it was originally intended.I applaud both the work and courage of master instructor Bob Liekens and soloist/director Peter Fiasca for contributing to the entire Pilates profession by filming the exceedingly difficult, yet ethereal super advanced workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classical Pilates Is Best!
This Classical Pilates video is phenomenal; in fact, it's the best on the market!I am a firm believer in the benefits of Pilates method, and I know this video shows Pilates the way Joseph H. Pilates originally intended. This Classical Pilates video demonstrates the true and pure Pilates method at the highest levels of technical form, and I know this video will be the "the gold standard" by which all other videos are measured. This super advanced video is for mostly for Pilates instructors and certification programs, yet it is also for everyone to see how comprehensive, versatile, and amazing the Pilates method is in general. I recommend it to everyone I know. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars more yoga than pilates
Overall this is a good tape. It is primarily focused on yoga rather than pilates, but it is a decent workout in a short (45 min.) time. The workout is vinyasa flow style and you really build up a good sweat. The teacher on the tape, PJ O'Claire, can be a little overly chatty at times, but her in depth explanations help you to better understand the poses and movements especially if you are a beginner. However, if you are looking for a real combination of yoga and pilates, you may want to buy the level two tape in this series- Pure Vitality.

5-0 out of 5 stars great instruction
This is an hour long vinyasa flow video, intermediate level power yoga - starts with any sun salutations A and B, with not much time for step backs, so if you do not yet jump back, be aware. Progresses to standing and seated poses, with some interesting variations. Constant reminders to stabilise the shoulders and knit the ribs are what make this "pilates-infused" - do not expect any proper pilates, or fusion. Actually a lot of pilates is based on yoga, so there you go.

PJ O'Clair gives great instruction and cues - I was impressed and highly recommend this tape. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Leslie does it again!
I was looking for ab work to do after my walk and this set is perfect! I can do the ball workout or the Pilates and then use the yoga for a great stretch. You can tell Leslie is a real woman with a real life, her products help you fit fitness into your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, fun and non-intimidating
This series is the easiest method of learning yoga, pilates and ab work with the balance ball. I have thus far only done the Yoga and Pilates, but both are incredibly simple and surprisingly effective. A good way to add variety to your workouts, esp. if you're already doing alot of Leslie's other workout programs. I recommend this series and commend Leslie for doing a service to the fans who love her workouts-a little change here and there challenges the body and keeps the mind motivated and fresh.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to do!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good mix of dance and Pilates
Once again, Liz Gillies draws on her extensive dance and Pilates background to deliver an effective, unique workout.

The first section of the DVD is supposed to be based on Physical Mind's new Standing Pilates syllabus. While it is included in the middle, it's more of a cool-down/break from the meat of the workout, which is more ballet-based.

The second segment is the matwork. This is different from most of the other Pilates offerings out there, and on its own is worth the purchase price. This section is based on about ten or twelve traditional reformer exercises (as opposed to the traditional matwork).Included are: Footwork, Coordination, Rowing, Tree, Elephant (think Downward Dog with a rounded back), Side Plank and Twist, Leg Circles (different from the mat version), Pulling the Strap, and a few others I'm forgetting.I was skeptical about this keeping my heartrate up after the standing section, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that I still felt like I was "working" at this point.

The Abs section is very similar to the Abs section on her Target Tone DVD, with an emphasis on the Pilates Abdominal Series. While some of her modifications look more like crunches than Pilates, she does instruct that the emphasis should be pulling up rather than pushing down- so think navel up, then in.If you're familiar with traditional Pilates matwork, this section may not be too challenging, but it might be a nice break from your usual routine.

I wouldn't recommend this as the sole workout to help you lose weight, but it is an interesting and different way to work Pilates into your workout rotation.

5-0 out of 5 stars great connection to mat!
I have been doing Pilates tapes of all kinds for years now and my body has been staying the same in the middle . I just realized with this tape making such a difference .I was getting too used to the same routine, even with props.
liz Gilliesroutines have great basic ballet style standing moves first to warm up and raise heart rate once you get used to it ..Youre still using the samepilates technique principals used in the mat.interetsing perspective!!.
This workout can be challenging to your balance at first, and liz could have maybe made clear modifications for that with chair etc.. but you like how it feels more with practice..Ive been doing this tape 3 times a week for 3 weeks now ..I notice such a difference in my thigh definition and abs! Ifeel that my core is strongerand flattening now for doing mat work.I break a sweat and nowheart rate gets up, andmy body keeps slimming down !
you definetely need to have focus and concentration with this tape which pilates is known for, I also learned some amazing new insights into my postural formfrom Liz ..She delivers new and important cues to really get it, as she puts it , an inside scoop! thanx liz , This is one of the few tapes I will repeat over and over

4-0 out of 5 stars Good variation on "real" Pilates
I've recently starting working out again after 5 years. I hired a personal trainer, who is also a certified pilates instructor. I love what Pilates has done to my body, and I wanted to expand my knowledge and have a better understanding of the method, so I been buying DVD's and books to enhance my practice at home. I wouldn't consider this a "real" Pilates video, is more like a very loosely adapted variation, or a "Pilates inspired" workout. The instructor Liz Gillies has instant charm and does a great job in keeping you motivated.

The first segment of this workout is supposed to be a "cardio- pilates" mix, and altough I did sweat a lot, I did not find it to be that hard (and I am an avid couch potato), neither did my heart rate go up; but it was very fun and invigorating.

I really liked the second segment, the Pilates matwork. Liz really explains the how-to's and keeps reminding you to keep a good "pilates posture". The ab section is amazing!!! You can feel the burn! I did not think the matwork segment was long enough tho. I wish they had cut-down on "cooling" and "stretching" excersises at the end and added more matwork. But overall, this is a good workout for begginers, nothing extrenous or mega-challenging. Most importantly, it is fun, so you will feel motivated to do it! ... Read more

Joseph Pilates developed a unique fitness system combining aspects of martial arts, gymnastics, yoga and ancient Greek training techniques, focusing on the coordination of the body, mind and spirit.Joseph Pilates, practiced what he called "The Art of Contrology" until his death in 1968, at the age of 88.He left his studio – and his legacy as a trainer, teacher and innovator – to his student and colleague Romana Kryzanowska.Today, the conditioning system bears his name, is one of the most popular and fastest growing fitness methods in the world. Known simply as PILATES, its leading teacher and practitioner is also recognized by only one name, ROMANA. For nearly half a century Romana has traveled around the world, teaching this Authentic Pilates method that she learned directly from "Uncle Joe". Her clients include athletes, dancers and celebrities.Even the most successful Pilates teachers and other fitness experts regularly come to Romana for advanced instruction and certification in the Pilates method. Now, for the first time, Romana has created a video series for home use. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Still Inspired
I'm the granddaughter of Romana Kryzanowska, and I've been surprised by a few of the not so favorable reviews some folks have issued here.I think this video series is great, if you're a beginner and have not had much exposure to the Pilates method, then this is a great way to start the learning process and have something you can follow at home.Because this is Romana's first video series, many individuals with existing Pilates experience have very lofty expectations and are looking for something that will help them become better Pilates teachers.Simply put, these folks are missing the boat; this series is for beginners, not certified instructors or experienced Pilates students. This series wasn't designed to replace an advanced or Continuing Education seminar, those require supervision or individuals can take on unnecessary risk when trying to work out at home.Later videos may focus on more advanced pieces of Pilates equipment and exercises for more experienced Pilates students and teachers, just not this series. My grandmother has always been reserved about providing instruction through video, for one simple reason...Safety.As a result, her video series takes into account the range of people who may buy and use them with Safety being a primary driver of the exercises that were selected for the first edition. If you?re new to Pilates, buy it and begin your Pilates journey in a safe manner; experienced instructors and students get yourselves to the studio and take a lesson with a certified instructor.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Comprehensive
I've been trying to learn Pilates at my gym, and through video tapes. This one looked good, and I was told there was a famous Pilates instructor on it. So I bought it. This video was ok, but it only has fundamental Pilates exercises. Since it's good to have a goal to work for, I found that "Pilates for Everyone" and "Classical Pilates" showed many more exercises. They even have intermediate and advanced exercises. So I was somewhat disappointed after buying "Romana's Pilates." The famous person on this video was wonderful in her prime. There just wasn't enough material to learn from.

1-0 out of 5 stars informational only
While I enjoyed the documentary aspect of learning about Pilates and about Romana (who is very inspirational), the workout included in this DVD was only about 5 minutes long and terribly disappointing. I wish I had bought it used instead of spending $15 on it. I will share it with friends so they can see the background of the workout I've been enjoying for over a year, but I won't mind if it never makes it way home to me again.

5-0 out of 5 stars I hit the mat
now I'm ready, this was just great

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Basic
I started Pilates last year and enjoy working out. This video was recommended by some of my friends who are 'in the know.' They said the Woman named Romana is famous, and that I would be glad to study this video. This video seemed too basic. Why sell a video that only shows the basic mat? Other videos have basic-intermediate, or intermediate-advanced levels, which provide inspiration to achieve more and learn more. Although Romana is probably an excellent instructor in person, I didn't see what was supposedly so special. If you are at the basic level, and only want to stay at the basic level, I guess this video could be worthwhile. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Where's the Pilates?
This workout focuses on legs, legs, legs. The mat work is so basic that it's hard to recognize the Pilates basis, and the ab workout is nearly absent. The balance exercises are ok, but very repetitive.I have numerous pilates DVD's, and this is the first one I wish I could return.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for the advanced
If you are looking for an advanced pilates workout this is not it.The video and instructor are nice and if you are just starting an exercise routine then this could be a great video for you.If you are looking for an advanced workout you will not find it here.I barely broke a sweat and found it too basic a program for my taste.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Morning Workout!
First off, I must agree that this DVD was has quality production and I found both the music and set appealing.I trained in ballet for 5 years, so I was surprised when I was sweating during the standing sequence. But even if you are experienced in Pilates or ballet, when you concentrate on executing all the moves correctly, it's quite a refreshing workout. My balance has improved so much through this video and I recommend it to a beginner as a fun, challenging way to get started. For the experienced, I recommend it as a modest morning workout, which is how I use it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exotic Pilates Balance Challenge
30 Minutes - Balance Challenge
15 Minuets - Floor Work for arms, abs, and legs

Katalin Rodriguez-Zamiar has three black belts and over 21 years experience in the martial arts and boxing. By looking at her, you would not think "boxing" you would be thinking ballerina or perfectly fit dancer. This program uses ballet exercises that require extreme focus and control. Katalin's creativity is exceptional and her instruction style is exquisite. She introduced me to so many new moves, I can hardly describe them all. Her floor work has some beautiful exercises that will require you to have a good basic core of strength already in place.

From the very start of this program I was pretty excited because after doing so many Pilates workouts, I knew most of the floor/standing moves and the focus here is on standing postures and exercises. Yet, they are exercises with a new creative twist. It is even difficult to describe the exercises because they are truly more like a standing dance. Imagine standing and then raising your leg and then moving your body in interesting directions to test your balance. I think she is mainly focusing on the "tendu en croix" and "degage" with plenty of front and back sweeps where you are standing on one leg and moving the other leg fairly quickly back and in front of you. So, that is the basis and there is a lot of center position focus. The lunges mostly go to the side or are more like a courtesy. I found that they were very easy on the knees and I could actually do them! Yes! Normally lunges are my least favorite, but these were like "dance lunges" which moved softly to the side.

The balance element had my full attention. Unless you have been doing Yoga or Pilates for a few years, the balance exercises might really frustrate you. This is definitely not for beginners because you truly do need to know all the basic ballet moves which move at a rather rapid pace in this video.

Katalin is a perfect instructor. Not only does she never make a mistake throughout the entire workout, her cues are right on target and she has a calming beautiful voice. You feel nurtured all while she seems to gently guide you into some rather intense exercises. Your mind is so intrigued with the creativity that you forget you are exercising your body into a fully body sweat.

Standing Pilates Blend is Intermediate/Advanced for sure! I love it and can """HIGHLY""" recommend it to anyone who loves Pilates and wants to move to what I'd call the "third" level. The first being when you learn the moves. The second when you accomplish the exercises. The third when you start to get creative and take each exercise to a new level of intensity. The camera is also in motion and switches from a group exercise situation to individual segments for instruction by crashing waves or a beach scene. This is a visually interesting workout which seems to almost hypnotize you with beauty so you don't even realize you are working as hard as you are.

This is a "must-have" workout for anyone who wants to improve their balance. It will also tone your entire body and you will feel your abs and butt tighten and lift even after just one workout if you have been working out on a regular basis.

If you are just starting with Pilates, try Winsor Pilates, Karen Voight and Jennifer Kries first. Those will give you a great overview and teach you the poses and exercises you need to know to master this workout.

Also highly recommended: Jennifer Kries Pilates Plus Method - a book that explains the exercises in detail and also have inspirational quotes.
