Denise Austin's Mat Workout presents two 20-minute workouts emphasizing flexibility, core strength, balance, and relaxation. Workout 1 is Pilates-based, focusing on the core muscles of the abdominals and back. Pilates-based workouts are heavily founded on technique and awareness, so Austin takes time to explain and demonstrate neutral pelvis, shoulder stability, breathing technique, and the muscles you'll be working. Then she takes you through a challenging Pilates-based workout focusing on trunk stability, which translates to a killer ab workout, offering modifications for beginners.

Workout 2 includes both Pilates-based exercises and yoga postures, starting with the Sun Salutation and progressing to a variety of yoga poses that emphasize balance and flexibility and Pilates-based exercises that focus on core stability and strength.

This is a softer Denise--quiet voice, subdued pace, tranquil feeling--a nice change from the frenetic pace and unrelenting chatter of many of Austin's videos. You'll be surprised by how demanding this workout is, because of the core stability and balance challenges. --Joan Price ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Less than what I had expected.
This workout is far from spectacular. It starts out with brief instructions from Denise on what she means when she says certain things and how your form should look. The first 20 minutes segment is comprised entirely of pilates moves. She takes you through a very typical pilates routine - scissors, leg circles, etc., nothing special here. The second segment is supposed to be tougher, so she says, and combines the same basic pilates moves with some yoga. The whole process is very relaxing. There's no corny music and she does a good job of not talking too much. I did noticed a strengthening in my midsection (or "powerhouse" as we have come to know it) but it's nothing that a good series of crunches or other ab work wouldn't do.

I would not recommend using this dvd as a means for transforming your whole body. It's not that tough unless you're a beginner, and after that there's no way to make it more challenging. I found that I was no longer challenged after only about a dozen times using the dvd. What good is a workout tape if it's not going to stand the test of time? Because of this, I use it more as a second workout of the day or on those days where I barely exercise at all, either out of laziness or time restrictions, as it is pretty quick. If you have realistic expectations, this can be a nice addition to your collection, as it has been to mine, but I would not recommend this dvd as part of a bigger, serious pilates agenda.

4-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this video.
First off, I have to say that I love most of Denise Austin's videos and I also do her Fit&Lite and Daily Workout on Lifetime TV. I exercise in general for about 3-4 hours a day, so I'm not exactly a beginner, but I absolutely love the pilates to firm my legs and abs. The first part of the video seems easy to me, but the second part is more challenging.

I would not recommend, however, doing the second workout if you don't know some basic yoga principles, but its great if you do.

The only real problem I do have w/ the video is that she does tell you when she changes sides.

Other than that GREAT VIDEO!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars 20mins To A Dancer's Body!
I've been a fan of Denise Austin's work for over two years - working out with her has always been fun and motivating, and I am always happy with the results I get with her videos.
This Pilates workout has certainly brought great results to my body - and it only took two weeks to get it. Denise puts together two segments into 20 minute workouts, with the first workout working mostly on the abdominals and lengthening the body to get a long, lean look. The second brings more of a challenging, more complex workout that combines Pilates and Yoga poses to create a more intense workout for the body.

I found this workout to be totally effective and worth every penny, but here is a WARNING: I would NOT recommend this workout for beginners. You would need to be at least intermediate in Yoga, or another kind of flexible exercise. If you think you're pretty flexible, this workout might work for you. But I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wasn't used to working out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great pilates workout
Thank you Denise for introducing me so nicely to Pilates, I loved your workout, it's working wonders on my tummy and legs, I wish people would give your voice a break, I enjoyed doing the workout from beginning to end.

4-0 out of 5 stars Post-Baby
I have had two c-sections in the past three years. I bought this video during my second pregnancy. Anyone who has had a baby or had a c-section knows that your abs loosen up and lose some of their strength. I had never done Pilates before trying this video but had heard a lot of good things about it. I find this video very relaxing and challenging. I have now been doing this video three times a week in conjunction with other exercises. My abdominals are better than ever and I was able to tell a drastic difference in how my abdominals were responding with this video than I had after my first c-section where I just did traiditional crunches. I recommend this video to all my friends who are mommy's and they love it as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! What an unexpected surprise!
I saw this video at a local discount store and picked it up on a whim. I didn't expect much, but it was cheap, so I grabbed it.

What a pleasant surprise! I use this video regularly and definitely feel and see the results. Michelle Dozios clearly explains and demonstrates every move but is never condescending, irritating or intrusive. She also shows modifications for beginners and advanced exercisers, plus demonstrations of what NOT to do.

I'm not a Pilates expert, but I've seen some of these positions before on other Pilates videos, so I'm guessing they're pretty standard. You'll really feel it in your abs. (I think that overall, Pilates is much more effective -- and interesting -- than crunches for toning abs. I know I see a big difference when I do this video regularly.)

This is purely Pilates. There's no cardio, no weights. I like to alternate this video with cardio and weight work; additionally, you can skip the ab section on your other videos and use this instead.

This is a great intro to Pilates, and you sure can't beat the price. I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Pilates
This DVD has none of the lush production of other Pilates DVDs or tapes that I have seen. The music accompanies rather than inspires or encourages. The studio is Spartan.

What this DVD is is a solid introduction to the beginning and intermediate levels of Pilates. There is an introduction about 10 minutes long that explains the significance of and the proper position for the powerhouse and spinal alignment. The instructor, Michelle, takes the time to teach the proper method of breathing during the exercises.

After the introduction, there are two groups of exercises at the beginning and intermediate levels. The beginning group of exercises has 18 basic Pilates exercises. It looks like the intermediate group has about the same number.

The strength of this DVD is that each exercise is demonstrated in a detailed fashion along with easier and more challenging variations. You should have little ambiguity performing the exercise correctly after listening to the explanation and seeing the exercise performed. In addition, common problems encountered performing each exercise are shown in an exaggerated fashion, so you clearly understand what not to do.

I had read two highly recommended books on Pilates, but seeing the DVD really put it all together for me. After using the DVD 3 times this week, I am feeling muscles I haven't felt in years and have developed a sense of when I am not standing properly or slumped over at the desk. I did have a low grade lower backache for a couple of days (which is somewhat normal according to the books) but that has passed.

I recently also joined a health club where they offer free Pilates Mat workouts. After watching one session and working out one session at the health club, it clear how much better the instructor on the DVD is.

Finally, for me, this workout would not work on VHS format. I really enjoy the ability to step through the exercises rather than FFW or REV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Basic Pilates Program for Surgery Recovery!
I am a very active person (aerobics, walking, running) who recently underwent bunion surgery. I did not look forward to several weeks off my feet and being generally inactive. I use this program daily to keep myself active, since very few of the exercises require you to be on your feet. There are only a few that require flexing of the foot while bearing weight on the toes, which I don't do yet. This program has been a godsend for me!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good start for beginners
This DVD gives you a basic workout which is very easy to follow and. despite being very simple, it's quite effective. It's great for people like me, who had no previous knowledge about what Pilates is or how it works. The instructions are very clear and Michelle does a good job encouraging you all along the video. In addition to this, you get more basic or more challenging versions of some of the excercises, and quick tips to avoid some common mistakes that you may unconsciously make. After some sessions, you really get to feel the so-called "Powerhouse". If you're tired of dull gym routines and don't like the en vogue tendency of having big muscles, Pilates (as well as yoga) will really help you. ... Read more

"Remember what Joseph Pilates said," instructor Ana Caban says. "'Youwill feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions.'" Pilates has become very popular and for good reason. By working the core muscles (the abdominal and back muscles in the center of your body) you improve strength and posture and developa lean, long line.

Certified Pilates instructor Ana Caban is a splendid teacher. First she demonstrates alignment and technique for 10 minutes, explaining the cue words you will hear and how to do the basics, emphasizing how to use the core muscles to strengthen the abdominals and back throughout the workout. Then she introduces a challenging 20-minute series of Pilates moves, instructing clearly, demonstrating beautifully, and continuing to advise you about technique, breathing, and form.

Even though this is a beginning Pilates workout, Pilates is never easy, so these moves will feel extremely difficult if you're new to this kind of exercise. For example, you learn to hold your abs tight whatever move you're doing, and you move only the muscles you're working at the moment, using your stabilizing muscles to hold the rest of the body still (much harder than it sounds!). Another participant demonstrates modifications throughout in case Caban's moves are too difficult or your muscles fatigue. If you've been wanting to explore Pilates and you're willing to put in the effort and concentration, this video gets our top rating. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout!
I've been doing Pilates for 5 months now and I love Anna's videos! The beginner mat workout is perfect for anyone who hasn't worked out before. I started doing them to get rid of a little belly chub I had left after having my daughter. Within two months I'd already lost over 5 lbs and I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight, a happy 111 lbs! I was absolutely floored at how easy and fast it was to loose the weight and get my body back into shape especially after having a baby. Something I'd been warned was almost impossible to do.

I've since moved onto the Intermediate workout and I agree with the poster who said this one is a lot harder. Be warned! Make sure you can do EVERY stretch before moving on. I made the mistake of moving onto the intermediate workout before I'd mastered the open leg rocker and teaser. I kind of thought I would be doing different stretches than the ones in the beginner workout. Wrong! Not knowing how to do those specific stretches made the 2nd video a lot harder than it should have been. 3 months after starting it I'm finally getting to the point where I can do the stretches without to much difficulty. I'm giving myself another few months before moving onto the advanced workout just to be safe.

5-0 out of 5 stars clear and challenging
I love this video. I wouldn't base my entire exercise regimen around one video, and this is not a cardiovascular workout, but Pilates is a wonderful way to strengthen and improve flexibility, which in turn can help you be able to do more challenging workouts of other kinds. Ana Caban quotes Joseph Pilates that you'll feel better after 10 sessions, but I really think I already feel better.

Maybe that's because a lot of days I don't have time to make it to the gym but I want to do some kind of exercise. At 20 minutes, the workout on this video is a very convenient length for those days. I can fit it in almost anytime, but I definitely finish it feeling like I've gotten a workout. This video can be the difference between feeling lazy and flabby and feeling alert and motivated at the end of the day.

Ana Caban's instructions are clear and complete, and while her delivery of the introductory "this is great and you'll love it" section is a little annoying, during the exercises themselves she's not at all grating. Compared to most exercise-video instructors she's appealingly low-key.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I think Ana Caban does a wonderful job instructing as well as cuing. I do this workout 3x a week and I actually look forward to the workout!! Her workouts are better and more challenging than the ones I was doing on my own! Right now, I'm still working on the beginners VHS, however, I'm looking forward to the intermediate workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST pilates workout avaliable!
I've had this workout for about a year and have bought MANY other pilates workouts and I always come back to this one. I was amazed after I first started using it--I could actually see definition in my abs and thighs and I've NEVER had definition. I used to have backpain everyday, but since I've been doing this program I haven't suffered a single day from a bad back. The great thing is you don't have to jump around and get sweaty, this entire workout is done either sitting or laying down. You're cheating yourself if you buy any other pilates workout over this one.

I excercise five times a week with one of Leslie's videos plus once a week weight training class. I'm in my late forties and have dropped cholesterol and blood pressure with this program. This workout is quite easy if you can do Leslie's other tapes. I like the fact that she is alone and doesn't talk to people excercising with her. She demonstrates the moves well. The Challenge with the stretchie band is also easy to follow and does not prove difficult. I'm not sore the day or two after either. One segment explains the moves. The two excercise segments takes about 20 min. each. Frankly, I'd like to see more Walk Away the Pounds with more weights and stretchie-band routines and let others lead the Pilates. Leslie has found her niche with the walking videos and should stay with that. ... Read more

If you enjoyed Ana Caban's exceptional beginning-level video, Pilates: Mat-Based Workout for Beginners, and you've progressed enough to continue on to the next level, Caban is back with an intermediate workout. Assuming you have already mastered the first workout, she makes the exercises more intense, with fewer breaks between exercises, and adds some new ones that will really challenge your "powerhouse" muscles. Fortunately, another exerciser demonstrates modifications for the hardest exercises. Caban is a superb role model and instructor, piling on technique tips so that you don't mistakenly think these exercises are easy by cheating. It's unfortunate, though, that the sound quality isn't up to the instruction quality. Caban sometimes sounds just fine, and a moment later she sounds like she's in an echo chamber. This problem persists through the whole 40-minute video. Still, this is an excellent Pilates program and will become one of your regular workouts. --Joan Price ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good intermediate Pilates workout
This tape is NOT for those new to Pilates; it's meant as a Part 2 to the Beginners Mat Workout. In the first tape, instructor Ana Caban takes the time to carefully explain each move and to describe in detail how the moves are performed, but in this more advanced workout, she skips the instructions and moves quickly from one move to the next. Ana is a very likeable instructor who is motivating and energetic without being overly peppy or intimidating. She offers encouragement using simple, sometimes amusing language such as "be long, like a noodle!" The entire workout builds on the Beginners tape by adding new moves, all of which smoothly flow from one to the other in the classic Pilates tradition. It's true that the sound and video quality is a bit off here and there, but this is easy enough to ignore once you have practiced the workout a few times. This is an excellent tape for strengthening the entire midsection, and perfect for those who want to further advance their Pilates practice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid workout
Yes, the sound quality suffered in this video, as the instructions switch from clear to tinny (like she's talking in a seashell) and back again- but think of it as an extra challenge for the Pilates goal of developing concentration. Seriously, if you're bored enough with the tape to be bothered by those flaws, you obviously need a more advanced workout! This is a solid intermediate Pilates workout that's a definite step up from the basic tape. You'll do some of the same excercises as in basic, but more reps, less rest in between, and interspersed with new exercises that overall will really challenge you. After several months of doing Pilates I am definitely noticing the benefits. There are so many things you need torso strength and stability for: daily posture, or moves in other exercise routines that require you to hold your body in place. This is exactly what Pilates works on, along with flexibility, balance and breathing. So it's a method that will yield results both in daily life as well as in your other workouts.

The Ana Caban videos do not go overly into detail on form, which is a drawback at first. It can be remedied by getting Brooke Siler's book and/or getting a few pointers from a Pilates trainer as I did. (Not a bad idea anyway, even for advanced users. I've heard that people sometimes come into studios having done Pilates for years thinking it was "easy"- and all along they'd gotten the form wrong so they were cheating!) In the end, once you've gotten the forms down, you want a video like this- one that will give you a solid workout with a minimum of fuss.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for intermediates
Ana Caban is a great instructor. I've been doing this workout about 2x/week for 5 months, and my abs look fabulous (this coming from a girl who never thought she could show muscles in her belly :)). I love the fact that its a 30 minute workout, so its easy to squeeze this workout in with a busy schedule.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great workout
I did Ana's beginning mat workout for 2 weeks, then graduated to this one. I enjoy Ana's personality. She's calm and cues you through each exercise. I've surpirsed myself in being able to do almost all of the moves. It really increases your flexibility.

2-0 out of 5 stars A good workout once it gets started...
I bought this workout to augment my weekly pilates class. I think it provides a good workout once it gets started, but only after you're forced to sit through 5 minutes of warings, copyright boilerplate, and GAIAM commercials! That's really my only beef. And don't think you can just skip through it.
My morning work-around is to turn on the dvd player, go brush my teeth and shave, then begin pilates.
I'd suggest finding a different company's DVD or buy the VHS version, where it's
easy to skip all the cruft at the beginning. ... Read more

If you think you know abdominal workouts, challenge yourself with this unusual video, based on yoga, classical dance, and the work of Joseph Pilates. "Strength and endurance, suppleness and flexibility," promises instructor Jennifer Kries. Every exercise starts from and focuses on the abdominals. Done lying on a mat, a 15-minute workout teaches you the basics of the exercises to come, demonstrating how to work your torso muscles in new ways, such as "roll-ups" and long leg circles. Then a 30-minute workout puts these exercises into a sequence and adds some more-advanced variations, such as sitting on your tailbone in a jackknife position--upper body and legs off the floor making a V-shape--and doing various movements from that position without losing your balance. This exercise technique gets the deep, postural abdominal muscles as well as those you're used to working. It also works the legs, hips, and buttocks, but the ab work is the best part. Kries gives clear, detailed instruction. She is so limber she could probably comb her hair with her toes, but don't be dismayed--you don't have to be that flexible to benefit from the workout. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Let the Cover Intimidate You!
Do not let the cover of this tape intimidate you! It looks wild, but it can happen to you! I just purchased this tape, and have done it only 5 times, but I have to say this is one of the best video workouts one could buy. I've done it all, the step reebok, buns/abs/insert-body-part-here of steel, denise austin, etc..etc...This does not have any of those ridiculous moves where you spend more energy crimping your neck, trying to look at the TV monitor because you're attempting to figure out what fancy hip-hop move they're doing only to realize you've reached the end of the work-out with a less than satisfying feeling! Although this tape is not your average aerobic workout with booming bass in the background, you will definitely experience a GREAT workout. This utilizes slow, carefully thought out precision movements which, when done properly, will have you feeling stronger, leaner, and longer. The first 1-2 times you run thru this, it's difficult, I won't lie to you. But you will get hooked on that "I just worked out, and I worked out HARD" feeling, that you will want to continue. Some days I did just the 15 minute segment and I found that to be sufficient. That 15 minutes also makes a great warm-up first thing in the morning, or just before you go on a brisk walk or jog. Even my husband loves this tape and he is a 6 foot 200 pound weekend warrior who loves to lift weights, run, row, and jump rope. He says it has added greatly to his flexibility which has improved his overall workout. You will feel a huge difference in your abdominal strength after just 5 run thrus, I know I did!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout, not quite enough instruction for beginners
I bought both this tape and Anna Caban's Pilates - Mat Based Workout for Beginners. Precision Toning has a longer, much more intense workout than Anna Caban's tape. However, I thought Anna was a much better instructor, giving more detail on how to do many of the moves that the two tapes have in common. Anna is also a bit more upbeat and fun to workout with than Jennifer. But, after I started to get comfortable with the moves (in 5 viewings or so), I liked the pace of Precision Toning better because there are fewer pauses or long explanations between exercises. Though, I've found doing Anna's Mat Based Workout and continuing one exercise while she's explaining the next one works well too.

So, if you are a total beginner to Pilates, I would recommend Anna Caban's Mat Based Workout for Beginners over this tape. If you've had a little experience with Pilates or you're in decent (not necessarily great) shape and want a more intense workout, Precision Toning is probably for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars An ok workout
I kind of like this workout. It is somewhat challenging, although I get bored with it quickly. I'm not particularly fond of Jennifer Kries' teaching methods either. I don't doubt that she is skilled in what she does, she's just very bland, as is the workout and the appearance of the set. This was the first pilates video I bought. I did it a couple of times, and then didn't do pilates again for almost a year. I would suggest starting with Ana Caban's beginners video if you are new to pilates.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this work out!!
This is a great video! I cant say enough good things. I just had a baby and was in a car accident while pregnant resulting in back injuries. I thought Pilates may not be for me because I was so out of shape and injured. Definatly not the case! Another person said there were no modifications to the moves and you had to be fairly fit to even try this work out. Not so!! Several times she says to go only as far as comfortable, you have to follow her directions- then you have a completly tailored work out.
True there isnt a whole lot for arms...but I have a baby for that!

4-0 out of 5 stars an awesome ab workout . . .
i've been working out at the gym for years, with access to countless machines, benches, and stability balls that are all designed to aid in abdominal toning and flattening. although i have found a few great exercises that do yield results, i have to do countless repetitions for quite a while before i start to see results. i've accepted it and i've resigned myself to doing an exhausting routine of different ab workouts everytime i go to the gym. this only leaves me bored and i've found myself cheating or skipping reps on a regular basis. when i found myself in a bit of a pickle--unable to get myself to the gym--i found "the method." being a huge fan of yoga and what it has done for my arms, butt, and back, i popped the tape into the vcr and gave it a shot. after only a few weeks of doing this tape, i've noticed quite a difference in my abs. my stomach is definately flatter and more defined. also, i've seen a reduction in that pesky back fat/lovehandles that are so hard to get rid of, and my pants are definately looser around my waist. one of my favorite things about the workout is that it's set up like a one on one training session so you feel almost like the instructor is speaking directly yo you--your eyes don't have to dart back and forth between five different people on the tv. the excercises do not leave you feeling bored or overly fatigued. although, there is one combo near the middle of the workout that is killer, but you definately know that it's working!! i can feel the exercises getting easier every time i do the tape. although there is very little to tone the rest of the body, with the constant reaching of my arms in many of the exercises, i've also noticed a bit of a difference in my arm definition. i would definately reccomend some kind of other cardiovascular activity to supplement what this video lacks. if what you're looking for is an effective and challenging ab workout, then "the method" is great. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love it, love it, loooooooove it!
I am new to this whole workout thing. I tried this video after a co-worker suggested it to me. Denise is a little perky, but that's ok. The first time that I did it was without the resistance band. I got a great workout, but got an even better one after ordering the resistance band. The video is a mix of pilates, yoga, and Tai chi. The workout is 45 minutes long, fun, and easy to follow. At the end of the workout you'll feel energized and strong at the same time. The results are fabulous. Now I do this routine everyday and plan to buy more of Denise's videos.

4-0 out of 5 stars Toned and stretched at the same time.
Boy, people either love Denise or loathe her. I'm in the former group. I NEED somebody who's positive and energetic. She gets my keister off the couch and that's what counts. I really like her new pilates tape. I have her other one as well. This video works your whole body. I love the way it seems to elongate me. ( I'm 4'9", I need all the elongation I can get.) Some of the stomach (core) workout is quite a challenge (I've gotten a bit lazy), but I'll get there. I don't want an exercise tape that isn't gonna challenge me. What I like best about this tape is that it's just Denise. Other people, in some of Denise's other videos, I find distracting. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is due to the studio setting. I prefer the sand and the surf. Call me silly, but I enjoy Denise's Lifetime workouts better when she's outdoors. I can 'pretend' I'm there in Jamaica...as I sweat.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best $15 I ever spent
I had my first baby 4 months ago. While I was pregnant, I gained 50 lbs. I decided to gat an exercise video, and picked this, along with Power Yoga Plus, at random. I am back to my prepregnancy weight, and am in even better shape than I was. I do this video or the yoga one at least three times a week. I don't diet or anything. I can eat pretty much anything I want, because this is such a great workout, and it has really boosted my metabolism. I can not say enough good things about this video. And also, I don't have a resistance band, I just use two 3 lb weights, and I have gotten great results. So you don't have to have the band to use this. I just love it. My stomach is so toned. I never thought it would look like this again. I totally recommend this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Workout
I borrowed this tape from my local library and liked it so much that I bought my own copy. I've been walking and doing yoga for years, but this tape worked some new muscle groups for me. This was my first experience with Denise Austin and I think she is very motivational once you get used to her style. Just when you're starting to get tired, she reminds you to "sit up straight" or "do your best" and it works for me. If you want a good workout that makes you feel like you've really done something good for yourself, this is the tape to use. I did it without the resistance band the first few times and still got good results, but now I've got the band and I'm feeling the workout even more. I recommend her books too: Lose That Last 10 Pounds, Fit and Fabulous After 40, and Shrink Your Female Fat Zones. They all have great workouts, meal plans, recipes, and snack ideas!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout!
I am not a Pilates expert and can not comment on the authenticity Denise Austin's Pilates exercises, but I do think this is good, fluid workout for strength training. I agree with others who commented that this is not for beginners- it is challenging if you are not already in semi-decent shape (especially in the abs). Yeah, her voice is kinda annoying, but you really can tune it out. This is definitely not an aerobic video, and should be complemented with some sort of cardio workout. By the way, you can get the exercise bands at Target- they are not very expensive at all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars As good as Pilates workout at the gym!
I have been taking Pilates classes for 6 months at the local gym, I also own a bunch of tapes and books, but I have to admit this DVD is my favorite! Kristin's instructions are very comprehensible, the workout is perfectly coordinated so that you work your whole body in short period of time. Just be ready to provide your own soundtrack, since the original one seems out of place!
I would highly recommend MTV Pilates DVD for for people with all levels of fitness. You might want to check out MTV's 3 DVD pack with Pilates, Yoga and Power Yoga workouts as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS Ab Workout
I've tried several pilates and yoga dvds and this one stands out. I don't care about the music, but really, it's much better than the music is on the Method dvds. And I think the music as well as the scenery could stand the test of time compared to other workout tapes. There is nothing more frustrating than renting a DVD that is only one year old and having the look and feel of it outdated. I learned many new pilates moves on this dvd and while I do understand what people mean when they say this isn't for beginners - I say, who cares!? One of my biggest complaints about yoga and pilates tapes is that I am so sick of people talking down to their audience. The instructors waste minutes of my time telling me how to do a position that I already know. This dvd starts off fast and gets me excited to workout. I'd rather have a dvd with moves that are unfamiliar to me that I can watch many times and never grow tired of it; rather than a dvd or tape where I get bored because they're all the same as the rest after just one hour of working out. I highly recommend this dvd.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's not that great..
This was just OK, it wasn't the best. I thought that it went too fast, and the transitions weren't smooth. The music isn't even that great, and you'd think that since this is a MTV production, they'd provide some quality workout music. However, I did like how they had three individuals performing each exercise in different levels: beginner, intermediate, and advance. There are better pilate workout dvds and tapes out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 Stars without the Music
I love the MTV Yoga workouts because the music is especially interesting. I thought the MTV Pilates workout would also feature music to really motivate me into a new level of fitness.

My dissapointment was immediately apparent. The music? What happened to the music? In previous workouts the music is at a higher volume than Kristin McGee's voice and in this workout the music is barely apparent. You also have to endure advertising at the beginning of the workout. I wanted to get right to working out and prefer the advertising to be at the end of the workout so I don't have to watch it each and every time. (Yes, forwarding is an option.)

The setting is the same as MTV Power Yoga: The beautiful mountains of Arizona. The mats are blue with a lavender center. All the colors seem to be either blue, lavender or burnt orange and mustard yellow. This creates a very natural setting against the mountains and slate/stone rooftop type garden.

I love the outdoor setting.

I love the instruction - Kristin's instruction is precise and she leads you through all the main Pilates exercises.

MUSIC: I can't really hear the music unless I increase the volume to an irritating level.

The music is not that inspiring (seems to loop a lot and it sounds like a broken record a lot of the time...arrggggg) and I hope they remake this with a different soundtrack. I'd absolutely not recommend the video because at least with the DVD you can use your own music and have the option of not being irritated by the music.

Normally I'd give MTV workouts 5 stars but this one really doesn't deserve it because of the music.

Apologies to Kristin who is an excellent instructor and who deserves a much more inspiring soundtrack. Common MTV - Give her a better soundtrack.

Kristin's Instruction: 5 Stars
Music: 1 Star

The music should be louder than Kristin's voice, end of story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent instructional video
This Stott Pilates video is excellent for basics of pilates. Moira Stott offers clear instruction for every abdominal exercise. When starting out, most people don't realize how crucial proper technique is, and Moira Stott gives detailed explanations of each movement without being too complicated or wordy. This video is fun, and most importantly, I've lost inches in my abdominal area by using it just a few times a week. I will definitely look into additional Stott Pilates videos as my level improves. ... Read more

Another fun video from The Method series, Target Specifics employs yoga, dance, isometrics, and familiar aerobics moves to create a fun and engaging workout. Each area of the body gets a 15-minute target routine. Jennifer Kries guides the viewer, against a studio backdrop, with other female dancers and live drummers providing the beat. Exercises are varied, quick, and sometimes complicated, so a few viewings and tries at following Kries are recommended. Isometric exercises allow you to vary the intensity and difficulty of the workout. Still, a more experienced dancer or exerciser might want to up the ante on this one--it's pretty introductory and light. The variety and fun of the routines would keep just about anyone occupied, however. A good supplementary addition to an aerobics video library. --Gilia Angell ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not an introduction to Pilates
I've been doing Yoga for a few months and thought that I could tone up a bit more by using the Pilates method. I bought an excellent book, The Pilates Body, by Brooke Siler but thought seeing the positions would help me do them accurately (it's hard to read a series of instructions and exercise at the same time). As other people here said, this is not a video for the beginner - but it was the only Pilates tape in the store. I have pretty good flexibility and balance but couldn't do the dance-based hip exercises well, and Jennifer & co. move much too quickly for me. I don't think I'm really learning much about Pilates from this particular video, but I do enjoy the instructor and even the music which I found oddly calming. I'm sure this would be a good workout for the initiated, and having the exercises broken up into different segments is great if you just want a 15 minute workout on specific areas. I will purchase another Method tape to try to get the basics down.

5-0 out of 5 stars I didn't know video workouts could be like this!
I've always been an outdoor, run/walk/bike type exerciser. I bought this video because sometimes it's too late/dark/nasty out for this kind of workout. I LOVE this tape. In fact, I'm buying it for my best friend. So far as I know, she doesn't use exercise videos at all, but I bet this one will make her reconsider. The video uses light arm weights and no actual stomach crunches. Nonetheless, it's a great workout for the arms (especially the classical ballet standing exercises) and the abs (every part of this video includes work for the abs). The music is performed by a bunch of bongo (?) playing drummers, and the rhythm really seeps into the exercise. I always feel great doing this video, although the first time through, I had some trouble following the cue-ing. It works your muscles in a long, lean direction and encourages good posture and balance. I'm serious: I don't even like exercise videos, but I love this one and have used it at least twice a week for the last 2 months.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too quick for a good workout
This video moved through the exercises much too quickly to actually get a good workout. As soon as I would start to feel the burn, the instructor was off to another move. I bought the video hoping for a Pilates workout and really did not enjoy the 15 minutes of ballet.

5-0 out of 5 stars This beginner loves it!
This is the first time I've used the Pilates Method to work out. I simply adore it. I thought this was a nice, easy break from my running/stairmonster routine; when I first followed the tape (which gets easier each time), I thought, "No big deal, I won't be sore. This was an easy workout!" Then I got up the next morning and was really surprised. This was the easiest workout that I've ever done and gotten such amazing results. I felt the difference and my posture and back pain have been better as a result. I used to hunch over a computer all day, yet now I sit up straight without even thinking about it. The workout is a great way to wake up: stretching and getting the mind going. Go for it! Get taller and leaner. If you hate it, your loss--send it to a friend. She will probably love you for it!
Kudos to you for getting fit. Love yourself. You deserve it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good quick overall workout
I've tried two other Method tapes and this is my favorite. The tape is broken down into four 15 minute segments, devoted to abs, arms, hips, and thighs. The abs section draws mainly from pilates, while the arms utilizes light weights. I took years of ballet as a kid, so I liked that the tape incorporated quite a few classical ballet moves (specifically in the hips and thighs segments).

As other reviewers have mentioned, the workout is quick and seems hurried (especially at the end of the thighs segment). However, I find that when I'm pressed for time, popping in the tape is an easy way to get a short workout in. I did not find it to be difficult. If you are a beginner and unused to ballet, it might take awhile to get the routine down, but once you know what is coming you will be able to focus more on the moves and see quick improvement.

Some reviewers mentioned that the music was distracting and this is a valid criticism. However, you can use this to build your concentration skills. When doing the movements, you should always be concentrating on your body and your own process. By focusing inward, your workout (though short) will be greatly enhanced.

In summary, though the tape has its faults, in the end it is a good toning routine. I would definitely recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Fabulous!
This video is fast paced and challenging. I have been doing Pilates for two years and was looking for something a little different. The work-out, though long, goes by quickly and Stott's informative commentary maintains interest. Her discussion of breathing is especially detailed, without interupting the flow of the movements. Each set of exercises continues into the next without pause, adding to the difficulty level of this workout. This is not a routine for beginners! I tried this video after noticing positive changes in a friend's physique who recommended this tape to me. After doing this workout my entire body was humming!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Results
I have had 3 kids in less than 5 years and really thought I would never have a tight, thin stomach without surgery. I have used this video alternating it with Windsor Pilates and mild cardio for my workouts. I saw results in 2 weeks. Now, I am normally a size 8 but can wear a 6 now. I didn't have much weight to lose but wanted to tone my midsection. This tape is great. Pilates is one of the best ways to tone your abs when combined with a sensible diet and some cardio. You will see the best results by alternating it everyday with something different. I like Taebo's Basic workout. Again, I have 3 young kids so I like a workout that is quick but effective!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Advanced Pilates Workout
This is a good workout, I liked the fact that the pace is moderate comparing to other advanced pilates workouts (especially the classical pilates technique), which give you more time to concentrate in your moves. The warm up in the beginning is a little bit boring, but never mind .

5-0 out of 5 stars Great pilates workout!
I have been doing pilates for several months now and this is exactly the workout I have been looking for. Although, I must admit that I do skip the first 10 minutes of warming up and start at the pilates one-hundred. It is challenging and I enjoy the variety of exercises on this tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Work Out
I have Windsor Pilates and Crunch Pick your Spot Pilates tapes. Stott Pilates Advanced Matwork 2nd Edition is better than both. It is fast, has varied exercises and is challenging. If you want an overall body challenge buy this tape (about 50 min). Windsor Pilates is too slow and not challenging enough, Crunch Pick Your Spot is good but it is too short(30min) and not an overall body workout (duh). This tape is well worth the money IF you want a challenge. ... Read more

In this excellent, intermediate Pilates workout, you add muscular power and endurance to the core stability you've developed. Skillful instructor Moira Stott-Merrithew starts with a review of basic principles, demonstrated in the warm-up, before taking us through a nonstop workout. Many of the moves are the essential exercises taught in Essential Matwork but performed without rests in between (45 exercises in 49 minutes), building flow as well as adding endurance and intensity. Stott-Merrithew slows down when she introduces difficult new exercises, such as the rollover, which involves lying on the back, legs lifted off the floor (held up by the abdominals), then slowly bringing the legs up and over the head with control, touching the feet to the floor behind the head, opening the legs from that position, then flexing the feet and slowly bringing them back to the starting position, closing the legs, and doing it all over again. Whew. As always, Stott-Merrithew, calm and competent, instructs throughout, so we're learning as much technique as we can handle. Her form is impeccable and inspiring. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect BEGINNER video for intermediate/advanced folks
Since I'm pretty fit and used to learning new physical activities, this was a perfect Pilates beginner video for me. Moira Stott is an excellent instructor who teaches a proper exercising and breathing techniques. What I was looking for and have found in this video: detailed instructions, moderate speed (but not too slow, so it's challenging), no-fuss style (that is no cheerleading and annoying non-related talks/jokes you have to listen to every time you use the tape). I've learned the basics with this video in about 2 months and moving on to the Stott Advanced Matwork on VHS and the Classical Pilates Technique on DVD. However, I'm still going to use this great routine as my alternating workout on the days when I'm too tired/sore to do the advanced one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice Pilates video-worth the purchase
This video is very thorough and safe. She does a warm-up prior to "the hundred" warm up. The pace is very steady but not too fast, performing up to 49 different pilates exercises toning the entire body. I would recommend this video for the intermediate level unless you are athletic and have been exposed to a little pilates before via a book or video and are familiar with the moves.

This video is well worth the money to me because it teaches appropriate breathing and the correct form, which are essential to proper results and to prevent injury. It is challenging and fun, and has produced great results in my overall balance, strenth, tone and provides me with a feeling of well-being once I am done with the workout. You don't need a mat if you have carpet. I also combine this with other workouts such as cardio and light weights, and she encourages you to alternate the tape with something for your heart such as walking, although this is a good cardio workout, for your heart's health you need something to push you a bit harder a couple times a week.

A great combination and wonderful variety to any workout regimen. I love not having to dress up with shoes, just plop on the floor and get started, and it's easy to do if I have a injury or am just too tired to do something else. It has been beneficial for me, having a lot of physical pain and muscle problems, although I will say it was very challenging at first but in a good way. As your core muscles improve with time, it becomes easier and you can feel it working better in my opinion. It's fun to improve at things, and if you want to have a tape that you can grow with, see results, and feel good about what you are doing for yourself, this is a good one.

5-0 out of 5 stars No hype - pure pilates!
Calming, serious, good to work along with.

Great supplement to studio sessions. I work the reformer at the studio weekly, and this video (and others from Stott) at home twice a week.

Great for improving posture.

3-0 out of 5 stars A bit too fast
I have taken 2 pilates classes and consider myself advanced beginner to intermediate. Although I like Stott's style and smoothness, she is just too fast for me. Her moves are not that difficult, but she whips through them very quickly. Maybe it would just take time for me to memorize the sequence, but I am going to keep looking for other tapes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good instruction, but not inspiring
I got this video after taking 2 beginning Pilates classes, and using Anna Caban's beginning and intermediate Pilates video. I was hoping through using different instructors, I'd learn different nuances of the moves and become more proficient in Pilates.

Stott's instruction and execution of the exercises is excellent; no cheating or sloppiness. However, it was less challenging for me overall than Caban's intermediate video, despite being about 10 minutes longer. What really turned me off this video and kept if from inspiring me, is that it appeared, between moves during instructional "chats," Stott sat hunched over. Admittedly, this is a pet peeve, but ever since Pilates has helped me improve my posture and lessened my aching back, I have become much more aware of hunching. Seeing my instructor hunching was outright depressing, so I gave the video away after a few viewings.

Caban's video was good, and Hillary Burnett's best of the Pilates videos I've seen. But Stott's Pilates is otherwise well instructed and executed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great pilates workout
I recommend this dvd for anyone that wants to tone their whole body. The instructor is fun, she is full of positive energy and is constantly encouraging you to keep up the good work. This dvd has a great total body workout. The dvd has five 10 minute segments. These segments consist of: abs, buns and thighs, body sculpt, total body burn, and pilates for flexiblity. I really enjoy this workout and have seen results.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my Favorites!
This is a great DVD - Each of the 5 segments is fantastic. I love that you can customize your own work out. You can feel your muscels stretching and toning at the same time. Lara Hudson is so graceful and instructs so well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and Effective!
I found this video to be very effective.I've had it now for almost a week and after the first 3 days I could already feel my abs and core getting stronger.I, personally, am concentrating on separate routines at a time, but I do squeeze in that incredible flexibility set which is great for relaxing.I feel so good for finally buying a pilates video...especially this one.I couldn't have done any better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners or Anyone
I really have enjoyed this DVD, she is easy to understand and her intructions and constant body check reminders are great! I have about 20 pounds to lose so there are one or two individual moves I can't do yet, but I will eventually. This whole 10 minute series is GREAT!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This has become one of my most used DVDs.I like all the segments, and love being able to tack on the ab segment to a weight workout which has trad abwork (yuck..).But my fave segment is the pilates stretch for flexibility. It is yummy.I tack it on to practically everything, except yoga. Most weight workouts have abysmal stretching, and this 10 minute segment covers the whole body and leaves you feeling really relaxed and opened.Love it!Hope she comes out with more workouts soon..... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good overall strengthening workout
I really enjoyed the Pilates for Dummies with Michelle Dozias, so I thought I'd try this one next. I got involved in Pilates as part of my effort to tone my midsection, but found I wished for a more "overall" body toning workout. Breakthru Pilates Plus definitely delivered on that! After a good session with this DVD I am sore from my calves all the way to my shoulders.

The Pilates section is good, but I still prefer the Dummies workout in some ways. I think the Pilates portion could be longer. I practiced ballet for about 20 years and also have modern dance experience, so I especially like the ballet portion of the workout. Michelle has incredible form and really looks like a trained dancer. I really feel the work in my calves and thighs. I am not a fan of yoga as I have found it very stressful on my joints, but I mostly enjoy the yoga portion. It is a good way to end the workout since it stretches a lot of your major muscles well. I wish they had made the Pilates section longer and the yoga section shorter--but that may just be me!

Pluses: Great overall body workout; lots of variety; Michelle is an excellent instructor and Tracy is OK; definitely a workout with "room to grow"

Minuses: Hard to do workout and watch the DVD at the same time; a bit hard to do ballet portion on carpet

Recommended with four stars

5-0 out of 5 stars Great variety of exercise methods!
Breakthru Pilates Plus is a wonderful mix of several different exercise methods, with Pilates being only part of the workout. The entire video is about 46 minutes long, and it's broken up into four sections as follows:

Section 1: Michelle Dozios leads this stretching segment, which consists mainly of yoga-type stretches, including some sun salutation variations. About 8 minutes.

Section 2: Tracy York begins this segment, which focuses on Pilates. The exercises performed here clearly are rooted in Pilates, yet they are modified from traditional Pilates matwork. Some of moves are deceptively simple (e.g., leaning back to engage your abs and then punching to each side), but I could really feel the work in my abdominal area. Following the lying abs work, you roll onto your side for some additional unique abs moves as well as Pilates side kick type moves. A really challenging series containing plank moves combined with push-ups comes next; you will also do "decellerated push-ups," a slower moving tricep pushup. Michelle takes over to repeat the exercises on the other side as well as to do a second pushup series. At 17 minutes, this is the longest section of the workout.

Section 3: This is the ballet-inspired section led by Michelle. Using a chair for ballance, you will do simple plies, leg raises, and leg kicks, first on one side and then repeating on the other side. These exercises were definitely tougher than they looked, and I found it difficult to emulate Michelle and Tracy's perfect form. This section lasted about 12 minutes.

Section 4: This was the yoga segment, and it consisted of about 8 minutes of standing yoga poses, including warrior, side angle, chair, and standing forward bends. Tracy leds this section, and she provides good instructions on alignment. The workout ends rather abruptly with a very brief stretch at the end of this segment.

I really enjoyed this workout; the wide variety combined with the segmented format to hold my interest, and because of this, I know that I won't easily tire of this video. Michelle and Tracy were both good instructors who provided good cuing, and for many of the exercises, one of them shows a modified version. They occasionally chatted back and forth, but not to the point of being annoying or disrupting the flow of the routine. This is a perfect workout for intermediate exercises like myself who enjoy doing a wide variety of methods in a relatively short period of time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very dependable
I've been using this workout for about two months - normally on my cardio "off days". It is a very challenging workout, but it's almost as if you don't notice how hard you are working because the program flows so well. It has become my favorite workout and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for something a little different. It's a great early morning workout - it's challenging without being too overwhelming.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Loved It!
Some portions were intense like the yoga push ups. But other than that, I enjoyed the routines immensely. I have Core Conditioning by the pair and found that the routine which was primarily pilates based, put too much pressure on my neck.

The variety in this workout is more versatile. In my opinion, if you've never done ballet, they make the movements easy. I enjoy the tape and will log on to their website to check out the tape that incorporates weight training.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Thing I've Found!
I have not worked out in almost ten years. In fact, I don't get much exercise at all, I have a desk job and walking to and from the car has been about it. Fortunately, I'm blessed with "thin" genes. But, I have a lot of body pain, joint stiffness...and very high cholesterol. My doctor said to start moving, didn't matter what it was, just MOVE! I don't like to walk or do aerobics, so on the way home from my labwork, I stopped at our library to try out a tape and there was Breakthu Pilates Plus. What a find! I love this tape! While in the beginning I could not get through the whole thing at once, I did like that I could do just part and not feel like I stopped in the middle of something. Also, the girls continually coach through the whole tape to find the place that feels right for you. I didn't feel pushed to keep up like some of the program's I've ~watched~ on tv. I now own the dvd and it's the best money I've ever spent on myself!

Each morning, I get up and at least do the ballet session, it really gets my energy level up. If I have time, I do the rest of the program. At night I do the yoga and it really helps me relax and sleep better.

This tape has been the best find for me. My body pains and aches are less and less each day, my cholesterol is coming down and I feel good. It is something I look forward to doing each day, I don't dread doing the exercises! Tracy and Michelle seem like they are two good friends in my living room, helping me through this workout. I highly recommend this program!

Thanks, Tracy and Michelle! ... Read more

Moira Stott-Merrithew has updated Essential Matwork, changing the order of exercises to better balance the body. This is a superb, 63-minute introduction to the Stott Pilates method. First Stott-Merrithew goes through the fundamental principles of breathing, imprinting, and how to stabilize the abdominals, shoulders, and back. Her warm-up practices these principles. Then she works your body thoroughly with 45 exercises, each one taught with precision and tons of technique. She explains which muscles are being worked, how to do the exercise most effectively, how to modify if you can't do the move fully, and what not to do. Stott-Merrithew never stops explaining, so you keep learning both the basics and nuances of each move. If you can't have your personal Pilates trainer, this is the next best thing. Some of the exercises are "preps" for harder exercises--you learn how to use the muscles correctly in a modified fashion. You can always see the move and the alignment clearly. Quiet music plays in the background. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is Fantastic!
I have been praising Pilates to all my friends ever since I first picked up my Denise Austin video - now, I have discovered the Stott Pilates and, I must say this is excellent - like being in a Pilates studio. I felt absolutely no strain or pressure and if what you are looking for is a tough workout, (after all you are doing all the exercises with your stomach pulled in as far as humanly possible), Stott Pilates works you through the routine with grace, allowing you to concentrate on the moves, your positioning and how you are breathing. Moira Stott is gentle, not harsh, someone I wouldn't mind training me in person and since I live in Toronto, who knows, I just might do that.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gets better!
I bought this video to introduce myself to pilates. I do yoga at least twice a week and wanted to try something new. The first time I used the video, I thought it was too slow, particularly the begining warming up part. I had to fast forward or just sit on my mat to watch her finish the breathing or explanations. However, the second time I realized that if I skipped the warming up or fast forwarded it, actually the video got more interesting. I even got a better work out in the third time, as I got used to the exercises and focused on completing them rather than paying too much attention to her talking and explanations. In sum, this video is a very basic mat workout, one that is good on a Friday afternoon, after a long week (especially if you want to skip sun salutations!). Since then, I feel great after each workout and think that my core body/back/abdominals are getting stronger just by sitting on the mat for an hour and following her instructions to complete easy exercises. Definitely not a challenging one, but a pleasant workout for parts of the body that we usually dont' focus on while doing aerobics or other exercises. I will try to advanced video next time.

4-0 out of 5 stars very good and challenging for a beginner
I had done 2 Pilates classes at my gym (that were too difficult to do safely without basic visual instruction) and also tried the "22 minute matwork" Stott tape when I did this workout. I found it very instructional and safe, but quite challenging for me, which is the perfect beginner video. I am in fairly good shape, and workout 3-4 times a week, am flexible, and this is challenging enough for me to begin with. yes, there are 2 quick audio glitches(no big deal) and I am soooo sensitive to annoying voices and I found her very soothing and professional. I would recommend this to anyone and urge "workout" junkies to be patient and understand the value of learning specific and safe movement, since my knees are paying the price now from aerobics!iF THESE ARE NOT LEARNED CORRECTLY, THEY WILL NOT WORK! PILATES IS ALL ABOUT PRECISION! She tells you to do cardio 3 times a week besides her video, so this is not meant to replace a cardio workout. I echo that it is rushed through, but it is long, so I was glad to keep up the pace. I was sweating and felt beat up the next day(s), so even if it doesn't feel like much, you feel it later, believe me!!! I will be purchasing this video and then moving on to intermediate. The 22 min. matwork was just way too easy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to Stott Pilates
This is a wonderful introduction to Stott Pilates. Moira's instruction is thorough and detailed. It requires a great deal of concentration which is a main point of pilates. If it seems too easy you are probably not doing it right.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent place to start
As a beginner in Pilates work, I had tried another video prior to this one and was wishing for more detailed explanation to the technique. A good friend and Pilates instructor recommended the Stott series, and this video in particular to start with. I was so glad she did! If you are new to Pilates and serious about getting the full sense of technique that will give you the results you're looking for, this video is the one to try! The leader explains each motion clearly and emphasizes the need for flow in between, as well as placing the importance on preparing for each new exercise as being nearly as important as the exercise itself.

The workout is very intense and requires both physical and mental endurance, and the instructor's demeanor is pleasant and makes you feel comfortable about being at whatever level you're at. If you're unable to perform the full exercise, she shows or explains how to modify it to suit you. I appreciate her manner in doing this, so I don't feel "less able" because I not as flexible as she is (yet!).

I feel I've advanced so much from using this video regularly, and I can't wait to try the other videos in the Stott series once I feel I've mastered this one. ... Read more
