5-0 out of 5 stars the finest family movie to ever come out of Japan
Master filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki has created a delightful work of sheer beauty in My Neighbor Totoro. The story centers around two girls who move into the countryside with their father. Their mother is in the hospital, and when she seems to be getting better, she has a relapse. An urgent telegram is sent to the house, where it is read by Satsuki (the older sister). Neither child knows how to react to this; Mei runs away, and it is up to Satsuki and the Totoro of the forest to find her.

I first saw this movie when the original Fox VHS came out (I was about 5 at that point, and got it as a Christmas present), and continue to be enchanted by it today. As soon as I heard that it was being released on DVD, I ordered a copy, but alas, I should have waited.

To those of you who have the VHS and are considering the DVD, and even to those who have the Fox DVD, I strongly reccomend ordering a copy of the Disney/Studio Ghibly version. It is true that dubbing a movie can do tremendious injustice to a foreign film, and the Japanese language track is a feature that should have been included on the Fox release. Also note that the second disk will be packed with features, including storyboard drawings, cast interviews, and a myriad of other interesting morsels.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Animation -- Unforgivable Treatment
My Neighbor Totoro is one of the greatest animated films ever produced (for children or otherwise). It is a film that devoted fans such as myself love sharing with children and friends (I even teach it in my Children's Literature class.)
----The delicacy of Hayao Miyazaki's tale of two young girls who must cope with the stresses of moving to a new house, neighborhood and school--while their mother is kept in a hospital for a problem they do not understand!--is extraordinarily well-told through delightful and surprising events and beautiful animation. That the girls need the friendship and support of their father, the neighbors and the Totoros (friendly nature spirits) is subtly presented and then heroically answered through Miyazaki's unforgettable imagery.
---But you'll have to trust me on that because a good portion of that imagery has been butchered away through the pan-and-scan process. Not only have the producers of this DVD version cut away much of the visuals but they have also left off the Japanese language track and given us a rather pale transfer.
----English speaking kids deserve to see this better-than-Disney film. They deserve to view the widescreen version and they deserve the option of hearing the dubbed version (if they cannot yet read) OR hearing it in it's original language while reading subtitles. A quality production would offer these things and more.
----This DVD offers a Masterpiece, but a badly Mistreated one----

3-0 out of 5 stars Marvellous film, but beware this Fox release
Charm, wisdom and beauty - Miyazaki style. "Totoro" is a real winner for all the family, but I would advise prospective buyers to wait for the Disney/Buena Vista release later this year. This Fox version is full-screen, cutting down the viewing area, and is only available with English dubbed voices (the original Japanese with subtitles offers much more subtle performances for parental viewing!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Blown Away By the Mighty Voice of Totoro!
I have spent the past day wondering what has gone wrong with children's entertainment, particularly American kids fare. This movie is, quite simply, awesome. Granted, there's that one iffy bath scene early in the movie, but I'm willing to overlook it because the rest of the movie is mind blowing beauty. This is the antidote to the usual American kid show, in my opinion. It is subtle, beautiful, simple, and yet complex. It is charming, wholesome, real, and superb. This is the breakthrough film for Miyazaki in America and I can see why.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting!
"My Neighbor Totoro" is a beautiful film, comprised of lovable characters, decadent animation, and a plot choc-full of magical fun. It is simply marvelous!

I was first introduced to Totoro in about the fourth grade, when we watched this movie at Japanese School. I remember wishing that I could live at the house that Mei and Satsuki live in so that I could see real dust bunnies and follow acorn trails to little Totoros. Some years later, I am still enchanted by Totoro's huge smile, the flying cat bus, and the amazing trees in the girls' backyard.

Although there are some dramatic moments in "Totoro" (i.e. visiting Mother in the hospital, Mei running away, etc.), it is still a movie that you will want to watch time and time again. This is family entertainment at its very best!

If you're looking for more great Japanese animated movies, try "Castle in the Sky" by Hayao Miyazaki. :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Animated Martial Arts Action!
If you are a fan of Japanese animation and Hong Kong kung fu movies, this movie will be a pleasure to watch. It stays true to the original video game, it shows the awesome skills of Ryu as he teams up with his long lost fellow student Ken Masters, who almost is the equal to Ryu, to fight the evil Bison with his collection of fighters. The animation is very well done and the movie has a cool soundtrack, if you like rock and alternative. I'm a big Bruce Lee fan, so I wanted Fei Long, the mirror image of Lee, to have had a bigger part in the movie. The fight between Ryu and Fei Long had to be one of the best, it's one of my favorite scenes in the movie. I hope, if it's not out already, they will have a sequel to this anime. So if you haven't seen it yet and you like the video games that it is based on, I would highly recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Only for less-picky Street Fighter Fans
There are three reasons to view this anime (and possibly own it): 1) you are an avid fan of the Street Fighter videogames and want to see some well-animated anime versions of the fighting 2) you enjoy only anime that has lots of action but is limp in story, plot, and everything else that should be expected of a good feature 3) you unfortunately feel the need to see Chun Li in her oft-exposed animated underwear

I bought this movie because I'm a bit of a Street Fighter fan (keeping and often playing the Dreamcast Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 3 series in my videogame collection; played then-new Street Fighter II arcade when in college); but I must fairly criticize it because I'm not a prejudiced fan.

This American version DVD is like a big old American muscle car, a simply silly, nonsensical machine by current standards but one which packs a serious punch when the loud pedal is pressed. This movie has a disorganized, sub-amateur storyline; excessively forced and lengthy dramatic character exposition; and even in some areas subpar animation. But it does excel when the fighting happens (unfortunately between stretches of awful, token character development).

Highlights are few but notable, such as Ryu v. Sagat, Chun-Li v. Vega, Fei Long v. Ryu. It is for occassional views of these sequences that I keep this movie on hand. But when I look at my DVD collection (Bugsy, LA Confidential, Perfect Blue, Ghost in the Shell, errr Street Fighter II), this one is always close to a trade.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not too bad at all
Being a big fan of the Street Fighter video game series, I naturally had to check out this anime that was released way back in 1995. The story revolves around M.Bison, leader of Shadaloo (along with his henchmen: Sagat, Vega, and Balrog), and his search for the ultimate warrior: Ryu. Unfortunately, Ryu is a hard man to find, so Bison kidnaps Ryu's childhood friend Ken Masters in an attempt to lure Ryu over to the dark side. Other Street Fighter favorites like Guile, Chun-Li, and E.Honda have some big roles to play, while we get to see cameos from Zangief, Blanka, Cammy, T-Hawk, Fei Long, Dhalsim, and Dee Jay. The animation itself is very nicely done (action and fighting scenes are great), and the voice acting is surprisingly well done as well. All in all, while Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie isn't the best anime I've seen, it is pretty good, and fans of the video game should be pleased. And by the way, it is a lot, LOT, better than the live action Jean-Claude Van Damme debacle.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best martial Arts anime.!
Unlike the live-action movie of street fighter with jean claude van damme this one had a better storyline and it sticked with the real main charcter "Ryu" rather then guile. If you are a street fighter fan I highly recommend this one and Street Fighter Alpha. This movie starts out with Ryu fighting against Sagat or someone that looks like him anyway, it's a great scene by the way. Also a great fighting scene to is ryu and ken fighting against the boss of all street fighter games.DVD or videocasste it doesn't matter it will turn out great in the end besides the DVD version really does not have many extras just some stuff. Anyway I hope you buy because I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Kicks The Van Damne Film's Butt!
This animated version more than made up for that terrible live action version that was put out about a few years before this! The artwork and animation is incredible! All the fights are great but Chung Li Vs. Vega is easily the show stealer on this DVD! Get this DVD but be warned! It does contain some language and lots of violence!

By the way, for those that have kids that like anime but don't want them to see all that, there is an edited version of this same film available but I think its only on VHS. ... Read more

This third installment of Digimon finds the seven lost campers and their Digimon on an unfamiliar island. In "Ikkakumon's Harpoon Torpedo," Joe climbs Infinity Mountain to get a better look at the group's surroundings, and encounters flying black gears that turn normally friendly digital monsters into combative foes. Luckily, the group follows him, and Gomamon digivolves into Ikkakumon to save the day with his harpoon torpedo. In "Evil Shows His Face," the kids discover that they are "the digidestined": the ones chosen to preserve the existence of the digital world. An encounter with Devimon, the evil ruler of the underworld, and his subjugates Ogremon and Leomon, teaches the group the value of teamwork, and lends insight into the mystery of the flying black gears. Thanks to a little help from a digivice and a host of digivolved Digimon, the kids survive the attack, but find themselves scattered among several different islands.

In "Sub Zero Ice Punch," Tai and Agumon land on an icy island, where they encounter a gear-influenced Frigimon. Agumon dissolves the gear and Frigimon returns to his friendly self, helping the pair find Matt and Gabumon on a nearby island. Initially the two boys disagree about how to proceed: Matt wants to search for their missing friends and Tai argues that the key to everyone's survival is to first defeat Devimon. Only the next episode will tell if their agreed-upon path will be successful.

Digimon is incredibly similar to Pokémon: Both are good-looking animated series starring powerful children accompanied by monsters that evolve into more powerful creatures. Digimon differs from Pokémon in that it focuses more on the concept of teamwork as a powerful defense against a specific enemy rather than on one kid's quest to become a trainer of monsters. If you're looking for true adventure, a great story line, and dandy animation, Digimon is for you. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Digimon Adventure Continues
This installment is the third in the Digimon series, and picks up right where the second video left off.
At this point the background and setting has been set, and the characters have had time to establish themselves, so the plot gets a chance to become more complex. The pace picks up, there's more room for adventure, and you really get sucked into the Digital World. The dialogue is improving and the characters become more natural.
Digimon will someday be hailed as a classic, as it has all of the elements that make for a lasting show. It's a lot of fun, and stays interesting, so kids and parents can have a great time watching it together.

1-0 out of 5 stars Oh...wow...another pokemon clone....
pokemon is so uch better than this trash and I'm not even a fan. When this first came out I knew that it was gonna suck and wolla it did. I like charizard, he'd kick greymon's sorry behind. Pkemon kicks butt. Scooter the happy pony could beat wargrwymon.

1-0 out of 5 stars This shouldn't be allowed on tv...
Digimon is so overated. Its a pokemon clone. Theres no difference, in characters, monsters or anything, I'm glad that it wasn't very popular.

3-0 out of 5 stars old digimon
its cool i guess i like the new digidestend their asome pokemon digimon dragonballz im the girl of them all rika ken kari

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally! Devimon arrives and the story picks up....
Do not simply ignore Digimon: Digital Monsters as a knock-off of the infamous Pokemon. It is nothing like it. It is highly original, and contains more depth and emotion in its storylines and characters.

Simple summary:Seven kids get transported to a parallel universe that is digital, where they befriend small creatures called Digimon who can digivolve into powerful forms to help defeat the evil forces that threaten the Digital World and our own.

In this video, the kids have now encountered Devimon, the main evil on File Island, the place where they first arrived to. Here is the first mention of the DigiDestined, the term used to describe the children and which will lead on to a more complex story. Using the power of the Black Gears, Devimon spilts the island into several smaller pieces and all of the children are separated. From there, Tai and Matt will begin to show their hostility towards one another as they try to rejoin the others, and Izzy and Mimi will encounter Centarumon, who will give insight into their digivices and their power.

The video is, as Izzy would describe it, "Prodigious". From here the series picks up the momentum and soon the children will have to confront Devimon and learn the true reason to why they were taken to the DigiWorld. It is very entertaining, very funny, and can be dramatic if you get involved with the series. I highly recommend it for children who crave for fantasy and action/adventure, and who have grown tired of the irritating yellow mouse known as Pikachu. ... Read more

Description

From one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the history of animated cinema comes the most acclaimed film of 2002. Hayao Miyazaki's latest triumph, filled with astonishing animation and epic adventure, is a dazzling masterpiece for the ages. It's a "wonderfully welcoming work of art that's as funny and entertaining as it is brilliant, beautiful, and deep" (Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal). SPIRITED AWAY is a wondrous fantasy about a young girl, Chihiro, trapped in a strange new world of spirits. When her parents undergo a mysterious transformation, she must call upon the courage she never knew she had to free herself and return her family to the outside world. An unforgettable story brimming with creativity, SPIRITED AWAY will take you on a journey beyond your imagination. "To enter the world of Hayao Miyazaki is to experience a kind of lighthearted enchantment that is unique to the world of animation" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times). It's a fantastic tale the whole family will want to experience over and over again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An incredible animated movie
"Spirited Away" won the Oscar for 2002's Best Animated Film. It richly deserved this award, for it is by far the best movie of its type in years. It may not be funny like 'Monsters Inc." or entertaining like "Shrek", but for sheer beauty and artistic integrity, it's almost impossible to top. Since words, like any other medium, have built-in limits, you will have to experience it for yourself to see what I am saying.

Imagine this: A little girl is riding in a car with her parents. They are headed to their new house. Dad makes a wrong turn, and they wind up traveling along a dirt road which ends at what appears to be a deserted train station. Dad decides that it's really the entrance to a failed amusement park. He and Mom decide to go exploring, and the little girl, filled with trepidation, has no choice but to go along. After awhile, the little family discovers a restaurant that is still operating. The parents gorge themselves until they are turned into pigs. Suddenly alone, the child finds herself in a place full of witches, ghosts, goblins and other assorted spirits. Aided only by an unearthly boy, she must now save her parents and find her way out of this surreal place.

The movie was made in Japan by animation master Hayao Miyazaki and his crew. It became the highest grossing movie of all time in that country. The people at Disney bought the American rights and lovingly added an excellent English soundtrack. The company's marketing department apparently was at a loss as to how to sell such an unusual animated movie. It was seen by relatively few Americans in theaters. I suspect that this masterpiece will find its audience here via video and DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hayao Miyazaki's Latest Masterpiece
From the legendary Studio Ghibli and anime director Hayao Miyazaki (of "Princess Mononoke," "Castle in the Sky," and "Kiki's Delivery Service," among others) comes a new favorite among otaku (anime fans) world-wide. "Spirited Away" is the story of a young Japanese girl named Chihiro (literally, "heroine") who is, as the title implies, taken from her normal life and deposited reluctantly in a small town built around a bathhouse for spirits. Chihiro overcomes fear and other obstacles, including a large, faceless monster and a black-hearted witch named Yubaba (literally, "old hag") to save her parents from a rather unpleasant fate. The story is exciting, well-paced, and thoughtful, with a good mix of humor, symbolism, emotion, traditional Japanese legend, and moral.

From an animation standpoint, "Spirited Away" is astounding. The sheer amount of movement and energy in Hayao Miyazaki's most recent work is quite impressive. Combined with the beautiful scenery (including several awe-inspiring and detailed shots of the bathhouse that can by themselves be regarded as masterpieces), and the realistic textures of the grass blowing in the wind, the flower gardens around the bathhouse, and the interior of the bathhouse, "Spirited Away" is truly a work of art.

The only flaw in the otherwise near-perfect film is the dialogue. A few lines sound a little forced, and some intended to be funny simply aren't. Fortunately, these slip-ups are few and far between.

Already, "Spirited Away" has earned several prestigous distinctions, including the 2003 Oscar award for Best Animated Feature. Also, "Spirited Away" was anime released in movie theaters, which is rare in the United States. Ever rarer, it became the top-grossing film in America for several weekends in a row. Not surprisingly, it was also popular in Japan, where it became the top-grossing film in that nation's history.

Most people I have talked to have been very impressed with the quality of "Spirited Away." Many of these have been adults, mislead by the films "Disney" tag. When they sat down to watch it with their kids, they simply expected another children's movie, but instead found a film they could enjoy and appreciate as well. On the face, the plot is simple enough for younger kids to understand, but the symbolism and artwork is so complicated and intricate that it can be enjoyed by adults and older kids as well. In other words, however cliché those words may be, this film really does have something for everyone, and is well worth your time and your twenty-five dollars.

5-0 out of 5 stars A work of art!
First of all, don't listen to people who give this masterpiece bad reviews... they probably think disney movies are the only animations worth watching!
This anime is fantastic... Miyazaki is truly a genius. Everything about it blew me away, from the animation and characters to its storyline! The characters have depth, and they show real emotion, and unlike disney movies, there are no annoying sidekicks or crappy songs... in fact, the music is very beautiful and heightens the feel of the movie.Even the dub is pretty good(at least in my opinion), but of course the original japanese with subtitles is best(as always)!
I HIGHLY recommend this one to everyone, anime fan or not! This is definitely worth your money! Don't hesitate!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing
I must admit that if it weren't for my friends, I probably would have never even given this title a second look, but after I watched it, I was amazed. Miyazaki has managed to create one of the most beautiful, not to mention entertaining, movies I have ever seen. The characters (especially Chihiro) are very true to life. I highly recommend "Spirited Away" even if you aren't an anime fan or, like me, are an otaku (you know who you are). I also encourage you to check out Miyazaki's other works, two of my favorites being "Princess Mononoke" and "The Castle of Cagliostro."

5-0 out of 5 stars 6 stars
This movie feels like a dream. There are not many works of art that can do this, but with this one I distinctively got the feeling that watching this film was the same as a really sweet dream. I love it. ... Read more

Like the similar Pokémon craze, the animated Digimon TV series has spawned a full-length theatrical film. The two phenomena are similar: kids collect monsters and go on adventures. While Pokémon has a sense of odyssey and a wisp of a moral, Digimon is flat-out rough-and-tumble adventure. Can an adult figure out the digi-details of the digi-world? Here's a digi-shot. That world is full of evolving monsters that live and fight in their own ways. The digi-world and real world can intermix, and one of the portals is the Internet. So kids sit at their laptops and fight with their digi-monsters in an abstract environment that looks like something from Tron but with none of the cool. The first 50 of 83 minutes is backstory that takes place eight years earlier. So everyone is grown up (as the time frame leaps over all the original Digimon TV shows), and Digimon and humans interact on Earth. A bad digi-virus is bent on revenge, and it will take more than a laptop to defend the planet. That said, if the end of the world ever looms, a golden digi-egg will be a good thing to have. 4-0 out of 5 stars Digimon: Digital Monsters - True Stories of the Movies
Before I talk about THIS movie, I should let all you Digimon fans know about a few other things about the Digimon movies: . . .
* In the original Japanese version, there are 7 Digimon Movies, the first two are involved with Season 1, with the origin of the Digi-Destined (translated into here), the Battle with Diaboromon on the Internet where WarGreymon & MetalGarurumon DNA-Digivolve into Omnimon (translated here) and the third movie, in the middle of Season 2, where T.K. & Kari, Davis, Yolei & Cody meet Willis (finally translated). All 3 movies had various scenes cut-out as there was not enough money to make a 2hr Movie - with movie 3 having the MOST cut-out scenes, having the older Digi-Destined captured. The animation, unfortunately, is not better than the TV Show, but its movement is slightly improved. The voices do okay, but not as well as the TV Show.
The other 4 movies, beginning with the 4th Movie "Diablomon/Diaboromon Strikes Back" is set after the Digi-Destiend defeat MaloMyotismon, and they are havinga battle against Diaboromon's Baby forms who converge into Armagemon. Omnimon/Omegamon and Imperialdramon Fighter Mode cannot beat him, until Omegamon's body of energy becomes Excalibur the Sword, transforming Imperialdramon into his Paladin Mode and defeating Armagemon.
Movie 5 & 6 have not been translated and are involved with "Season 3: Digimon Tamers", the 5th Movie (in the middle of the Season between eps 18 & 19) has Takato, Henry & Rika fighting Mephitsomon-Galfmon, who attempts to controil the world with V-Pets. And the 6th Movie is set after Season 3, with more of the TV Characters fighting an evil Parasite digimon controling a train Digimon who runs amuck in the Real world.
The final 7th Digimon Movie, "Revival of the Ancient Digimon" is set in the middle of "Season 4: Digimon Frontier" where the Digi-destined come across an island where human-type and beast-type digimon war against eachother and the children must stop the deception.
All the Digimon are less than an hour, running for either 3O mins or 51 mins. However the animation in movies 5-7 is better but looking closer to the show. It would've been better if they did Movies 1-2 first, then 3-4 as a sequel, followed by 5-6 for a third movie and putting 7 as a bonus feature.
BUT IT WAS REALLY GOOD ALL THE SAME!

5-0 out of 5 stars way better than pokemon any day!
I really liked this movie!! it was awsome!!! here's my review

Digimon the movie is a three part movie. It begins when the digi destind Tai,kari, matt, joey, sora, mimi, izzy etc. well, it's stars with younger tai and kari. One night their computer does something weird and makes a digi egg or whatever it's called. later it hatches a digimon and it keeps evolving. and thats all for this part.

Part 2. It begins with this evil digimon (forgot it's name) causeing a HUGE virus! Tai Izzy and the gang have to stop it before it destroys the whole internet.

Part 3 Its starts off with all the digimon characters includeing, Tai,kari, davis, etc. (no ken) They meet this kid from america (sorry I'm so bad with names) His digimon keeps attacking him because (warning spoiler) the evil digimon virus is inside him and trying to get them to help him. So they all try to defat it.

An thats all the info for now. now for my comments. This movie had alot of action and some comedy! it was funny! Now notice it's rated PG theres a reason. The action is violent and might sacre kids hmmm maybe under 7 I guess. so, yeah.

Now I her that this is another pekemon craze WRONG!!! people say oh digimon is a pokemon copycat again WRONG!!! FYI people digimon came first!! The dub just came out later so take note of that! and now to stop my ranting. anyways this was a freat movie!! way better than pokemon any day! I'm 11 now and still like digimon. yeah I know you think it's insicure for some my age likes digimon but it really isin't. This is a great movie/tv series great for the whole family! The movie and art is great! so buy this! or atleast rent it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well...
First let me say: You will either love or hate this movie and series. For Pokemon fans, it will be a boring Pokemon clone. For those of us with less narrow minds, or who don't mind watching well-done movies for the younger generation, it is a highly origional (Despite some serious monster look-alikes with pokemon) well-done series. The characters are much more filled in than pokemon, and have more on their minds then "catch them all lets battle yay i love my pikachu" On the whole, though I rather enjoy pokemon, Digimon has a magnificent and powerful storyline (for a kids show) and I recommend this: If you like Pokemon a lotlotlot, think twice before even renting this :)

1-0 out of 5 stars Take my advice....
...Don't even rent this peice of crap. It's sooooo dissappointing, cause the show is really good. but the movie sucked.

5-0 out of 5 stars digimon is so cool
I loved the movie but its not only 3 movies in japan they made 7 already and are making the 8 movie I know cause I made a little research and have found the other movie I dont have them, but I know the web site were you can find the other 3 movies.I also dont know if there doing to air in USA.

Nayzor, in turn, releases Zen-Aku, a wolf-like mechanical beast who has been imprisoned for 3,000 years, and Zen-Aku traps Elephant Zord! His own true identity unknown to him, Zen-Aku at times seems to be the Rangers' enemy and at times, a friend. He also commands three Wild Zords of his own. After the Rangers defeat Vacuum Cleaner Org and later, Bus Org, Zen-Aku combines his Dark Wild Zords to form Predazord, which defeats Megazord, and Zen-Aku gains control of Giraffe Zord! This video is not a great Power Rangers video, but I'm sure if you're a collector you'll be getting it anyway. It's not as if this is seriously dire, but once you put it in the VCR, you probably won't wanna put it in many times after that, so here's hoping you like the video packaging. You'll probably not be noticing it on your shelf for a long time to come.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bad acting and Good music VS Good acting bad music like it
Gauridians of the Earth uninited we Roar! Power rangers wild Force, Noble tiger, Great shark, soring ealgel, irion bision, Roriang Lion!... Is that supose to make the Rangers stronger or somthing? It's not helping them defeat Zenaku. Like BlackwarGreymon, He tries to rember what hapen and was the 6th ancient warrio that was destroyed becase he became evil from an unknown source. He's also Inviceble nothing the Rangers are diong isn't working. Not even the Soulbrid can deafeat Zenaku.
It's totaly pricless sieng the Rangers lose their Zord crstals that they worked so hard to get.
It's theb course of the wolf that defeated the Rangers. Why do they say their stupid motto?(See above frist sentice.) At least Zenaku became the LunerWolf: Merick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Try It! You'll Like It!
It's very easy to get caught up in Sailor Moon because the characters are very likeable, and you'll want to see what happens when Serena and Raye try to enter a wedding dress sewing contest, or when Serena enters a modeling contest as much as seeing the Sailor Scouts defeat Nephlite's latest evil schemes. The characters' daily lives are as much a part of the show as the heroics are, and that makes you care about the outcome of the episodes more. There's also a couple of sweet episodes about how Sammy broke Mika's prize winning doll, and the beginning of the story of Molly's ill-fated crush on Nephlite (a.k.a. Maxfield Stanton). I would reccomend this tape (and Sailor Moon in general) to anyone who likes anime, that doesn't mind American dubs. Be forewarned, however: Sailor Moon can be a highly addictive series!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best anime ever
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon brings back so many memories. When I was very young and Sailor Moon first came out, I found it by fate by flipping the channels. Back then no one else watched it and it was on at 6:00 in the morning. Many years later I reunited with it and then I ordered the Japanese episodes fansubbed. The Japanese episodes were amazing. Back then their was no official distributer, so I ordered from a fansubbed distributer. The Japanese version was so different form the American version. It was completely different. I love both versions though. The English version brings back memories from my childhood while the Japanese version is uncut. It's fun comparing the episodes and seeing how much was changed. This version, however, is the edited and changed. It cuts out many scenes and makes a lot of changes. While it has changed a lot from the original Japanese version, it's great for a trip down memory lane, and brings back my childhood memories. This volume has very important episodes. Usagi/Mamoru and Serena/Darien are my favorite couple ever. This volume is very touching and romantic. While it makes a lot fo changes from the Japanese version, it brings back memories from your childhood. Tuxedo Kamen is so wonderful and charming. He was my hero when I was a young girl, and he's still me hero now. He will always be the most charming anime man. I love Tuxedo Kamen/Mask. He is so wonderful, and hot. Anyway, this is recommended by me, but I suggest you buy the Japanese version as well.

SAILOR MOON fans will love this videotape which includes 4 episodes of the cult Anime series.

"Wedding Day Blues" - Serena and Raye enter a competition to win an all-expenses-paid honeymoon trip to Hawaii, while their beloved teacher Miss Lambert is abducted by the Negaverse.

"Shutter-Bugged" - Serena enters a modeling competition, but the young teenage photographer has been brainwashed by Neflyte.

"Dangerous Dollies" - Sammy gets into hot water when he accidentally breaks his friend's award-winning porcelain doll.

"Who is That Masked Man?" - Molly is almost killed when Neflyte becomes convinced that she is Sailor Moon.

Highly-recommended.

They are funny, and set a positive example of friendship and love. Watching Serena and her friends as they stop the evil plans of the Negaverse is great fun to watch. We have purchased all of the videos in this series so far. I stongly recommend all of them. ... Read more

High-pitched, relentlessly fast paced, and filmed in eye-gouging gumball colors, this video series combines two previously released dubbed episodes from the Japanese animated series, along with a couple of new ones. The adventures of a group of schoolgirl superheroes, Sailor Moon is a lighthearted kiddy variation on a ubiquitous Japanese subgenre, stories of alienated adolescents granted paranormal powers and enlisted on the side of virtue in apocalyptic struggles across space and time. Imported to the U.S. in an attempt to create a post-Power Rangers franchise for girls, the show never became a mainstream megahit in the states, although it still has passionate fans (thanks to airings on the Cartoon Network). The chirpy, giggly tone may be off-putting, but the level of visual imagination (and the self-sufficient courage of the young heroines) can be exhilarating, especially when kids and parents watch together. This first volume kicks off with the "secret origin" episode, "A Moon Star Is Born," in which Tokyo middle-school student Serena is transformed into the title character by the occult power of a mysterious locket. She acquires a cute sidekick (a talking cat named Luna), and in the three succeeding episodes she begins to assemble her support team of spunky Sailor Scouts, with names like Sailor Mercury, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus. In the second episode, "Talk Radio," a phantom radio program is somehow connected with the door-to-door delivery of flowers whose fumes put people to sleep. Also includes the episodes "Slim City" and "So You Want to Be a Superstar," with a total running time of 90 minutes. These edited shows are appropriate for fans age 5 to 12. --David Chute ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Watch out
Hmmm, how should I start this review...well, one way is that I'd like to say that I highly don't reccomend this series to anyone. Don't get me wrong, Sailor Moon is a fabulous story about 5 teenage schoolgirls who are Usagi Tsukino, Ami Mizuno, Rei Hino, Makoto Kino, and Minako Aino... that is if this was the original version. However, they are renamed into: Serena, Amy, Raye (Short for Rachael), Lita, and Mina. Besides that Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon has a plot of 5 Sailor Warriors who weild witchcraft that is used to destroy the Dark Kingdom's demons that try to gather energy (Episodes 1-24), Steal the 7 Nijizishou (Episodes 25-34) and find Princess Serenity and obtain the Ginzishou (Episodes 36-43). During this series, Usagi Tsukino finds out she's a reincarnation of Princess Serenity, the daughter of Queen Serenity and inherit's the Moon Stick (Crescent Moon Wand in DiC and ADV versions) that performs exorsists that free demons from innocent humans. However, all this is changed in this tape. There is no "Witchcraft", it's simply "Super-powers". The demons are called monsters, violent scenes are toned down alot, some episodes having over 5 minutes cut out. There is no swearing, or sexuallity in any sort. It is over 58.6% non-related to its original form. The story is ompletly changed, and the scripts are totally re-written. Overall, I'd perfer "Sailor Moon - Season One - Complete and Uncut" which is the whole first season uncut, and free from "DiC", except for the dub terms used. However for young children, I suggest the edited version, the uncut version may be too "adult" for them.
Rated: TV-Y7 for mild fantasy violence
My Rating: 5+

5-0 out of 5 stars charming anime
SAILOR MOON is a charming Anime series based on the popular Manga comic books. 14-year-old schoolgirl Serena discovers that she is Sailor Moon, a soldier given the task of bringing to justice the evil Queen Beryl of the Negaverse.

To stop the evil Queen Beryl from taking over the Earth, Luna the magic cat seeks out Serena and reveals that she has the powers of the magic Sailor Moon. Although she's unsure of herself at first, Serena quickly learns that with belief in yourself, anything is possible. Together with the mysterious Tuxedo Mask and her friends, Sailor Moon leads the fight for love and justice! And when Amy discovers that she is really Sailor Mercury, the Negaverse and Queen Beryl don't stand a chance! Earth has a new protector, and her name is Sailor Moon!

Contains the following episodes - "A Moon Star is Born", "Talk Radio", "Slim City", "So You Want To Be a Superstar", "Computer School Blues" and "Time Bomb".

This is a great DVD to add to any anime collection! Some think this anime is too girlish but once you get into it, it is a very exciting anime that will keep you off the edge of your seat. Try it, you will like it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon: A Heroine is Chosen (Vol. 1, dubbed DVD)
I own this DVD personally, and I must say, if you are a Sailor Moon addict like I am, you'll love it. It has the original first six episodes (season 1, dubbed), and is a must-have for any Sailor Moon fan wishing to start their Sailor Moon DVD collection. In episode 5, Sailor Mercury, or Mizuno Ami (Amy Anderson if you must, but I'm so used to the Japanese names) appears. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars The First Movie!!!!
I really wanted this as a video, and for Christmas we got a DVD player, so I bought the DVD! I've never actually seen it as a video, so this is kind of hard to find. Here are the stories o it:
A Moon Star Is Born: One day, a talking cat named Luna comes and tells Serena Tsukino that she's Sailor Moon. Then, she has to save Molly from a monster.
Talk Radio: Serena likes a new show on the radio, but when Molly and Ms. Haruna get prizes from it they fall asleep!
Slim City: Serena thinks she's fat, so her and some other girls go to an exercise place but the bad people try to take their energy.
So You Want to Be a Superstar: There is a contest, and all of Serena's friends start acting weird, and at the show they all fall asleep because of a monster.
Computer School Blues: Serena thinks the new girl, Amy, is a bad person, but then she turns into Sailor Mercury!
Time Bomb: Serena and her parents get new clocks but they make everyone act strange and the Sailor Scouts get stuck in a weird place.
This is my favorite Sailor Moon video/DVD because it tells how she first turned into Sailor Moon! ... Read more

As he does this Dende arrives at Frieza's ship where Goku is recooperating, Vegeta is napping and Gohan is looking after the place. When he arrives him, Gohan, and Krillin gether the Dragonballs call the Dragon and wish for Piccolo to be brought back to life, and brought to Namek. My Neighbor Totoro is that rare delight, a family film that appeals to children and adults alike. While their mother is in the hospital, 10-year-old Satsuki and 4-year-old Mei move into an old-fashioned house in the country with their professor father. At the foot of an enormous camphor tree, Mei discovers the nest of King Totoro, a giant forest spirit who resembles an enormous bunny rabbit. Mei and Satsuki learn that Totoro makes the trees grow, and when he flies over the countryside or roars in his thunderous voice, the winds blow. Totoro becomes the protector of the two sisters, watching over them when they wait for their father, and carrying them over the forests on an enchanted journey. When the children worry about their mother, Totoro sends them to visit her via a Catbus, a magical, multilegged creature with a grin the Cheshire Cat might envy.

Unlike many cartoon children, Satsuki and Mei are neither smart-alecky nor cloyingly saccharine. They are credible kids: bright, energetic, silly, helpful, and occasionally impatient. Filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki makes the viewer believe the two sisters love each other in a way no American feature has ever achieved. My Neighbor Totoro is enormously popular in Japan, and some of the character merchandise has begun to appear in America. The film has also inspired a Japanese environmental group to buy a Totoro Forest preserve in the Saitama Prefecture, where Miyazaki's film is set. --Charles Solomon ... Read more

:) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Anime
Only one word... GREAT! If you enjoy Japanese cartoons this is a must have, no matter how old you are. If you like adventure, you got it. If you like comedy, you got it. If you like mythology, you got it. If you like sheer non-stopping fun, you definitely got it. This series charm resides best in the fact that the characters' personal lives don't remain stagnated as it happens in most cartoons, and best of all, people grow old. It's not like regular cartoon shows where the characters remain at the same age forever. People are born and grow older just as in real life, which in my opinion is a good thing for children to watch, so they can lean that life is constantly changing. The structure of the action, where a problem appears and they have to strive to fix it is also educational for it teaches children that no matter how wrong things may get, if they work hard enough they can make it right. And since it's an ongoing saga, the Box-set format is ideal for newcomers because you can watch an entire story-line at once. I truly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars the beginning begins
this was a good box set, exept for a couple of minor "flaws", like having it edited, pioneer should of made at least an uncut version also, even for the namek box set, but i think funimation will make an uncut version when there done with the rest of the sagas. Another flaw is throwing out scenes that shoudn't of been thrown out like the first episode, they removed gohanhe running from a tiger and goku finds him hanging on a tree next to a water fall. Another scene they threw out was when gohan was training under piccolo and gohan falls in a cave and tries to escape. During that time he meets a robot who helps him. they shouldn't of thrown out those scenes, but you cane see them in japenese with english subtititles in the movie dead zone. There is one more deleted scene that can't be viewed in the american version. Launch is in a bar drinking and cries because she saw tien die by nappa and pays the barkeep a bunch of money cause she's too drunk. other than these flaws they have good fights, first apperances of gohan, nappa, vegeta, the sayain race, radditz, gregory, bubbles, and king kai. i reccomened buying this set if your a collecter

3-0 out of 5 stars A good saga turned bad
The saiyan saga is one of my favirot sagas and for good reason. Unfourtinaly this part of the series was translated before the golden age of uncut dbz. All things that make dbz great have been ethier edited or totaly destroyed for no reason. let me ask you a question . Why do people watch dbz? Some watch it for it's original story , others for it's uniqe characters, but personaly I watch it for it's incredible 100 mile an hour, intence hard hitting, action packed, fights. Yes, that is why we watch dragonball z , but funimation totaly blew it in this case . For exaple , when a person gets punched in the english version they erase the scene where the fist conected and just show two seconds of flashing light. Im sorry but this certanly does not satisfy me . On another note the incredible diologe and music that the japanese version was known for was replaced with some ... noises that sound like they were recorded in sombody's basment. Even if you can look past the rediculice eddits and poor quality you still will not be satisfied with whats left. The only action is in the first tape and in the last three. The other four tapes are just filled with such nonsence as goku chasing bubbles and Gohan saving a pake of orphans in the wilderness. If I were you I would just buy the first and last 3 tapes and save a couple bucks.

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish that I could rate the box set 900,000,000,000,000,000,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gohan gets saiyan napped by Radits. Goku teams up with Piccolo to save him. They save Gohan but Goku dies. Piccolo takes the young saiyan (Gohan) to a desert wasteland for special training while Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yajirobe train for the saiyans stronger than Radits!

Goku travels the long rode of Snake Way in search of the martial arts master King Kai. After one year th saiyans finaly arrive. It seems that the saiyans are unstopable. Tien, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu are gone. Piccolo saves Gohan, but this sends him to another dimention as well. When all seems lost for Gohan and Krillin Goku comes back from King Kai's planet. With the Kao Kin power in store Goku takes out Nappa and hurts Vegeta. Goku body is thrashed as well so it is up to Gohan to fight the saiyan until Krillin can throw the Spirit Bomb (given to him by Goku) at Vegeta. The spirit bomb is thrown at Vegeta... but find out the rest through the movie it self!

3-0 out of 5 stars Be warned! These are the edited dubbed episodes!
INTRODUCTION:
Dragon Ball Z was the follow-up to Akira Toriyama's surprisingly successful Dragon Ball series. Although his first installment of the classic series was more of an adventure-comedy type series, the Z series pretty much focused entirely on sci-fi martial arts action - which makes the Z series far superior to its superior. The series has become popular all around the world, and it's no surprise that a box set of the first season was released here in the States. Read on for my review of the Saiyan Conflict box set.

BASIC PLOT:
The story for the Saiyan Saga, the first of four major sagas that make up Dragon Ball Z, goes something like this. Five years have passed since the classic Dragon Ball series ended. Goku is now married to Chi Chi and the couple has a son, Gohan (named for the old man that took care of Goku as a child, rather obviously.) Unfortunately Raditz, an alien, comes to earth, telling Goku that he is his brother, and that he was sent here to destroy the planet. Goku joins forces with his arch-nemesis Piccolo to defeat this menace, but Goku is forced to sacrifice his life for the cause. With his dying breath, Raditz announces that two other members of his race are on their way to earth to collect the Dragon Balls and wish for immortality, and that they are far stronger than he is. For the next year, the Z warriors train, and many of the non-warrior types go off to find the Dragon Balls so that Goku can be revived. But will all this training be enough to defeat the Saiyan elites?

EPISODE/DVD OPINIONS:
When you do anime DVDs, it's an unwritten rule that the DVDs include both an uncut English dub version and an uncut Japanese version with English subtitles. AND ALL THESE DVDS HAVE IS THE EDITED DUB! I admit, the voice actors FUNimation hired for the dub version all do the voices of their respective characters well (all except for Vegeta's), but the dialogue is too inaccurate and Americanized. Also, a good deal of footage was cut (nearly HALF of the first episode was cut out.) And needless to say, the violence was reduced so that the series could be aired on American television stations. This is NOT the Dragon Ball Z real fans want.

OVERALL:
My advice is NOT to purchase this set. I recently heard that Pioneer will lose their rights to the older episodes of the series soon, and when they do, FUNimation will redub the episodes, and hopefully rerelease them on DVD with the original Japanese version intact. So hold off and see if that happens. ... Read more

THIS IS ONE OF THE GOOD SAILOR MOON VIDEOS,THE FIRST EPISODE"CRUISE BLUES",IS WHEN JEDITE AND TITUS JOIN TOGETHER TO GATHER ENERGY FROM PEOPLE GOING ON A CRUISE. BUT OF COURSE THE SAILOR SCOUTS ARE ON THE CRUISE AND SOON DESTROY TITUS AND FOILES JEDITES PLANS.THE NEXT EPISODE"FIGHT TO THE FINISH",THIS EPISODE TELLS ABOUT JEDITE FIGHTING WITH SAILOR MOON AND THE SCOUTS,WHO SOON FOIL HIS PLAN AND HE IS DESTOYED BY QUEEN BERYL AND NOW ELECTS NEPHLITE AS THE COMMANDER. THE OTHER TWO EPISODES TELL ABOUT NEPHLITE AND HIS ENERGY PLOTS.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Episodes Available
Matchpoint for Sailor Moon was the very first episode I ever saw of this show, and it got me hooked forever. How can you not fall in love with a character stuck inside a huge tennis ball being bounced around? This collection is by far my favorite, and if you're a Sailor Moon fan, you have to agree these are some of the best. This video has it all- action, intrigue, romance, and meatballs.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT EPISODES
SAILOR MOON fans will love this fabulous videotape which includes 4 episodes of the cult Anime series.

"Cruise Blues" - Amy and Raye win a trip on a romantic cruise-ship, while Serena uses her 'Disguise Power' and stows away to join them. Little do they know that the cruiseship is only an illusion and that Malachite is harvesting the passengers' energy for the Negaverse.

"Fight to the Finish" - Jeddite has almost worn out his welcome with Queen Beryl, who gives him one last chance to capture the Scouts. Sailor Moon, Sailor Mars and Sailor Mercury are going to have to use all their powers combined in order to destroy him once and for all...

Also includes the episodes "Match Point for Sailor Moon" and "Unnatural Phenomenon".

3-0 out of 5 stars i guess
This movie was not the best i have ever seen but one of the better ones i think. i would still buy it to judge it for yourself!

2-0 out of 5 stars Hmm, not bad for America :P
Konnichi wa! If you look at reviews of a few other SM videos you may recognize Usagi-Bunny. I don't watch many dubs, but before I discovered the subbed Sailormoon S I was a dubbie. :p Baka me! Anyway, on to the movie. It was *okay*. I didn't give it one star because I liked the ep where they defeated Jedite. (Jadeite is the CORRECT spelling)! I wish they had this movie subtitled and in my beloved Japanese. :) I am not Japanese (most of us on here aren't) but I am learning it and I've fallen in love with this language. Sailor Mars is *okay* but I like her better in the Japanese. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon S review
****
This is a close second for my favorite Sailor Moon movie. The plot is all about Luna's love for another human and a mysterious ice queen who plans to take over Earth by freezing it. Unlike the other Sailor Moon movies, this one goes more toward a human plot (or cat plot) than a superhero, save the world plot, and I think that's what makes this work. The only problem is toward the end it wants to turn into a save the world movie. The violence isn't there, even in the un-edited version, and neither is the language or sexual themes like the other features.(namely SM R) So this is the most suitable subtitled version for the younger viewers. Don't get me wrong, it isn't like the dub, it still has it's subtitled qualities. Such as the barbie doll-like nude transformation sequenses- which, of course, is edited out in the dub to where it looks like they almost have nothing. The main plot is where Luna falls in love with a human who saves her and nurses her back to health. She then proceeds to ponder about what love is and relizes that the best thing for him would be to stay with the woman he already loves. The second plot, which is paper thin, concerns an evil ice queen who wants to freeze and take over earth. She sends down her ice creatures to accomplish it. This, of course, gets Sailor Moon and the scouts attention who then proceed to stop her. Meanwhile, an ice crystal that she needs to take over Earth has been found by non other than Luna's human love. This is making him deathly sick and Luna then tries to save him. Once again, there is unintentially hilarious scenes. Namely the one where Luna is asking Usagi about her love with Momoru and with a sigh (that sounds like "HaDeHa!) she falls off the dresser and with all four paws spread she goes "LaLaLaLaLa." After a few times of watching this you'll be laughing your head off. This is another great Sailor Moon movie that hasn't been butcherd by Dic. The dub isn't as bad as the first but the sub is still much better. I definately recommend you add this to your anime or sailor moon library. One more great reason for buying this movie is because it's our only chance to see the outer senshi in their original Japanese glory.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies
This movie is focused on Luna and an astronomer kakeru who saves her life from getting hit by a car, and takes care of her when she is sick. He discovers a stone that was sent here by princess snow kaguya who plans to freeze the earth. The animation on the dvd is so much better than the vhs. If anyone is saying to themselves ill buy the vhs because its just sailor moon and its cheaper. Don't, because its not worth it. With this dvd you get japanese and english language. English Subtitles, and great animation. What more could you ask for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotionally Intense Sailor Moon Movie
This review is for the edited, dubbed version. I have not seen the uncut one.

Hearts in Ice is a beautiful, action-packed, sailor-stuffed movie that will make you cry. For an animated movie, the love story in "Hearts" is as intense as one in any German opera or Russian novel. And, the one struck by Cupid's arrow is not one of our schoolgirls or their chums - it is little Luna.

Every senshi is in this movie, with the exception of Sailor Saturn. We get to see them all work together, ALL their gorgeous transformations, and ALL their attacks. The climatic battle where they all unite is amazing, and had to be saved for a film: it is too cinematic for a thirty-minute TV episode.

The lameness of the villian and her annoying henchmen can be overlooked because of the crisp and gorgeous animation and the skilled voice talents. The winter setting is a refreshing change from the perpetual spring/summer of the series.

I do not feel I have missed out by watching the dubbed, edited version. I own a variety of both sub and dub, cut and uncut SM, so I know what I am saying when I feel nothing has been compromised here. Finally, this movie is not a short one like SM R. It is a full-length feature, so you will get your money's worth, even if you pay list price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its like an end to the season
I bought this movie a long time ago when Sailor Stars was
still on TV. My brother, siters and I really liked it. We

4-0 out of 5 stars I Laughed My Way Through This One!
The only reason I am giving this a 4 out of 5 is because I always appreciate the Japanese-with-English-subtitle editions better. Since I had little choice in that matter when I was looking for a new VHS anime with my girlfriend (she only has a tape player) at Suncoast Videos, I looked at the big words on the back cover and was completely drawn in by the, "Mom went on vacation, and all I got was this lousy girl." The description on the back sounded just as interesting and quirky as that phrase, so after just a little convincing by my girlfriend, we picked it up. I'm so glad we did. The animation is enticing, it is outrageously funny, and it will be an anime you will want to watch again and again! I just hope more episodes will be turned into anime!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique and Interesting Shojo OVA
Tatoon Master, follows the exploits of a young female tribal warrior (Nima) who goes to Japan to find a boy (Hibio) she saw in a picture. Once she comes in contact with him, she finds that he doesn't like girls, in fact he wants nothing to do with them, but instead of leaving she decides to hang around for awhile... Just long enough for trouble to start brewing when another love-struck female gets thrown into the picture. Its an all out jelousy battle and arrows, that arn't exactly of the cupid make, begin to fly. I highly recommend this 2-episode OVA and would love to see a sequel.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best comedic anime on the market

5-0 out of 5 stars Mononoke a must for Fantasy Fans
This is an amazing anime feature reminding me a little of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Except that was Chinese Folklore). It has simplistic yet very professional and detailed animation
