5-0 out of 5 stars The originals are the best
This is one the first Thighs of Steel workout tapes. It is such a good workout. The first segment is aerobic and the second is all on the floor. The floor exercises are hard but they work!

5-0 out of 5 stars The original workouts of Tamilee are the best & tough!
If you can't decide, the old low budget workouts by Tamilee are the better choice. They are longer & tough. This workout is 56 minutes, but is divided into 2 segments. Each has its own warmup and stretch, plus there is an additional stretch segment at the end, which feels great! The first workout is standing and have heard it referred to as cardio. There are faster paced lunges & side squats and they will get your heartrate up. There are also plies, leg extenstions, and some work for the calves, too. The second segment is all floor work. It really targets the outer thigh, but there is some work for inner & hamstrings as well. (Your quads will feel the first segment more.) You can do both for one killer workout, or break up the workout for days you are short on energy or time. Pass on Quick Toning Thighs of Steel, it is way too easy compared to this one! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Workout for Most Anyone!
I was afraid this would be too difficult for me but was pleased to discover it was fast paced and was an absolutely wonderful workout.

Age doesn't matter with this workout. If you're a woman of a "certain age" or a man of middle age you'll get a lot out of this video. And it won't hurt you.

Cory carefully instructs you in three sets of each lift and twelve reps. You can use different size weights --- whatever is suitable for you. And you can use dumb bells or a bar bell for all but two exercise. For those two, I made up my own routine based on routines for the triceps.

I found this video to be easy to follow and found Cory a delight. You can go at your own pace and improvise where you must. But believe me, the next day you'll know you had a workout. And you'll look forward to the next.

I highly recommend this video. And I'm hard to please when it comes to exercise videos. Most I do once and that's it. If you want to gain muscle and/or strength or simply get fit, you need this tape.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too fast paced for me
I've bought a few of Cory Everson's videos recently, this being one of them and I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed in this video as I found Cory doing her reps too quick for me to follow (actually this is my glitch with her in most of her videos) and I end up having to pause the tape so I can catch up with her.

I've been working out for 15 years now and wouldn't say I'm slow ... I just find if I keep up with Cory's reps, I will perform the exercise incorrectly as I'm just doing the motion just so I can keep up with her and I wonder whether she's doing them too quickly cos the weights she holds seems to be too light. She is after all Ms Olympia and can pump a lot heavier weight than what she is holding in the videos.

Also I've found that having recently started on her videos, I will start aching (despite doing the stretches in her videos) about 2-3 days later and can't move my muscles at all and have to wait for them to recover before I can workout again which the first time it took me a week to recover and I wasn't using heavy weights either.

Her exercises are good, it's just that I find them too fast to keep up with and find it irritating to have to keep pausing the tape to keep up with her as when I'm on rep 7 she's done or thereabouts; and she moves on to the next set of exercises so quickly she doesn't leave time for me the viewer to make the change without pausing the tape, which I find annoying as there are dumbells and barbells everywhere on the floor.

Jane Fonda and Rachel McClish's weight training exercises are easier to follow though obviously are a different category to Cory's which I personally feel is perhaps for the more advanced serious hardcore bodybuilder than the normal person trying to do a weight training routine.

As said her routine is great, it's just that because she does it so fast in the tape, it spoils the enjoyment for me cos I can't keep up with her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great personal training in a video!
Very easy to follow. Slow, precise movements. Go through all the weight lifting exercises and repitions with Cory Everson. I feel fantastic after the workout. It motivates me to make healthy meal choices throughout the rest of the day because I focus more on what my muscles need to perform and grow, rather than what my emotions want me to devour. I am seeing definition in my shoulders and arms. Highly recommended for the home gym.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best upper body workout
I have been an avid exerciser for about 18 years - it's routine for me. During that time I have viewed a lot of exercise videos. Cory's videos are absolutely the best. This upper body workout is intense, but not to the point that you become dismayed and want to give up. I have noticed more sculpting in my arms after just 2 weeks (and I have been doing weights for a long time!) There is a bit of fluff in her videos, but in my opinion, it just makes it more interesting and engaging. The important thing is that the workout is serious and is obviously choreographed by someone who knows a great deal about fitness. I highly recommend this video for a great upper body!

5-0 out of 5 stars A tough but doable workout from a former Ms. Olympia.
After working out my upper body at a beginning level for quite some time, I was finally ready to move on to something more challenging. Although Cory's workout was highly recommended, I was a little nervous about working out with a former Ms. Olympia. I need not have feared, however; the workout, while quite challenging due to the high number of repetitions, is also quite accessible to various exercise levels. Even most advanced beginners would be able to make it through this routine using lighter weights and completing less sets of each exercise. Furthermore, Cory is extremely non-threatening; rather, she's a smiling, laughing "workout buddy" (her words).

After a brief warm up (3 1/2 minutes), the routine is divided into three sections: shoulders, biceps/forearms, triceps. Each section starts with a strength building move, which means 3 sets of 12 repetitions using the heaviest weight you can manage. For shoulders, it's the shoulder press, for biceps, the bicep curl, and for triceps, it's a lying tricep extension. Next comes a "tri set"--3 different exercises, each performed for 12 repetitions, and then the entire series repeated twice (3 times total). I generally lose light weights (5 lbs.), but I often have to sit out a few repetitions in order to keep pace with Cory. A brief stretching segment is a nice conclusion to this tough workout.

Cory uses various equipment, including dumbells, barbells, and an exercise bench, but I've been able to get by with dumbells alone and no bench (I use a chair or the floor instead). Clocking in at exactly 30 minutes total, this is an excellent, challenging workout for the entire upper body. ... Read more

The Method: All in One Workout is a very unusual workout for several reasons. The moves are inspired by many disciplines: jazz and modern dance, aerobics, toning, yoga, Pilates, and sometimes a combination. Each section is taught by a different instructor, and the music is provided by live drummers.

The video begins with a 15-minute warm-up targeting each muscle group, more in the manner of a jazz-dance class than traditional aerobic dance, complete with isolations. Next a 30-minute aerobic cross-training segment alternates aerobic-dance and jazz-dance movements with toning with light weights. The aerobic patterns are tightly choreographed. Some of the toning moves are also unusual, such as rising up on your toes and squeezing your buttocks as you do arm movements holding weights. After this, you still have a 35-minute "centering makeover," with abdominal exercises that will reduce you to quivering jelly, even if you think you're the queen or king of abdominals. Finally you get a 10-minute stretch, and you really need it by now. All the instructors are very clear and motivating. They are accompanied by a class of bare-midriffed women and a couple of muscular men. This video is best for experienced exercisers with aerobic dance or other dance background or familiarity with Pilates. (If you have a bad back, some of the moves will be too stressful for you.) You get more than your money's worth with this one. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very balanced workout video
This video covers the three basics: aerobic exercise, strength training and flexibility. After the warm-up, the video moves into a segment that alternates aerobic dance with free wieght exercises (you need 2 dumbbells 3-5 lbs). Intermediate and advanced people may find the aerobic segment unchallenging, i.e. it doesn't elevate the heart rate enough. To compensate I add 2-3 minutes of jump rope after each dance routine (there are 4). The next segment features ab and flexibility work. The latter half utilizes a bar (a broom stick works fine) that really opens up the body and allows you to move deeply into the stretches. Nice cool-down that leaves you feeling refreshed but energized. The legnth of this video doesn't bother me, if you need to shorten it chop the ab and flexibility section in half. An informative, fun workout that leaves nothing out.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best "All in One" Workout
This tape lives up to its name...You get a stretching/warm up segment that uses ballet movement and other basic stretching. Followed by a cardio routine that mixes in weights (great for toning arms...regular pilates sometimes misses the arms), followed by an EXCELLENT pilates segment. You can even break the segments up and just do the warm up/cardio one day and the warm up/pilates the next day. Try this video! You won't be dissapointed!

3-0 out of 5 stars Pilates?
I was not expecting this tape to be what it is....It says- The Method - Pilates: All in One. Okay I assumed it was a total pilates workout. I usually buy my tapes through amazon but I just picked this one up while I was at the department store. BOO - Its an okay tape, kind of fun and different but if you are expecting PILATES this is not it. There is a "pilates" section which is kind of lacking but it over its a decent workout. I'm all left feet but the dance segment is fun. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE TITLE. Its supposed to be a cross training total body but there is too much focus on the arms and not enough on the legs. Oh well they put there best foot or should I say bicep forward. *too corny* Sorry! :)

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I have a few other Method videos, and LOVE them. But this one was a real flop. I enjoyed the warm-up, but the dance/weight training segment was down right annoying. I've been dancing for years and had trouble following Alexandra (and I couldn't help but notice that a few in her class had trouble following her too). Her cues are bad and quite frankly I found her to be an irritating instructor. As far as the ab segment at the end, I have no bar, and didn't know I needed one, but tried to assimilate non the less, and ended up quiting half way through just for pure lack of interest.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's Not Really Pilates
The title of this tape "The Method Pilates All in One Workout" is deceiving. This tape is NOT a pilates tape if that is what you are after. They seem to have stuck pilates in the title because they thought it would help sell the tape. It's basically a series of dance routines intermingled with weight work (the weight work was actually the only part of the tape I enjoyed), followed by some exceptionally easy abdominal pilates. Which is fine if that's what you are after, but don't think this will give you ANY idea of what pilates actually is. I am an avid pilates fan and since my instructor takes a break during the summer I thought I would purchase a video to get me through the next three months. I didn't mind the thought of some aerobics to spice things up, but even that was a great disappointment. I felt like I was at a dance class and if you've never taken any dance classes you will be flailing wildly throughout half the tape. There is no instruction on the dance moves. They quickly show you the first portion and then fly into a series of moves you might see at a dance tryout. To make matters worse, the 35 minutes of Abdonminal Centering (pilates) and the 10 minutes of Lengthening was actually joined together for a total of only 30 minutes. Also, I hate tapes that plug other equipment (for sale separately of course) to be incorporated into the routine. You don't need bars or any other gimicks for a true workout. It's just extra money in the pockets of the video makers. They don't even mention you will need the bar until you're 45 minutes into the tape. For that matter, they never mention you will need weights either. All in all there are far better tapes out there for aerobics and judging by the reviews I've read, much better pilates tapes as well. I can't wait to try a tape that is devoted only to pilates. ... Read more

Bought this tape (& book) in the 80's when I started Ballroom Dance competitions, and loved it. It really helped me to stretch, balance, focus and concentrate. Still have both tape & book - - do tape only occasionally b/c of the 80 minute time commitment. Learned a lot from the book about nutrition and health. Raquel may be beautiful to look at, but she is strong and flexible and really pushes you to do your best throughout the tape. You won't want to whimp out by not doing your best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Guidance for good health
The video (and book) highlight benefits from Hatha Yoga and good eating and living habits that can be derived whilst living in a stress-prone world. With humbleness and wit, Ms. Welch guides the viewer/reader through an alternative way to fortify and strengthen the body, improve flexibility, and, soothe the mind. The excercises are isometric by nature and provide the fastest turnaround I've seen in any type of excercise regime (including triathlon training, aerobics teaching, weight-lifting and so forth).
Really wish publishers would re-launch this work again as it is timeless and effective as compared to other tools marketed since that promise to do the same but don't.
Ms. Welsh is inspirational in her postures and the tranquility she conveys throughout this work.

I purchased this video when it first came out and loved it. It was lost so I have purchased others that simply don't compare. It is driving me bonkers that I cannot locate another copy, new or used. As there is still such a high demand, why is it not available.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga and flexing
I did this video about 13 years ago when it was released in the mid-eighties, at that time aerobics and ankle weights were the rage so I didn't think much of the video's deliberate poses and holds. But, after doing the video I felt muscles used without being damaged. Now at 42, I'm desperate to find a copy....every other yoga video I've searched and done is trivial by comparison to this one. Please help me out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Yoga Video!
I bought a copy of this video back in 1986 when it was a hot item. I have seen many workout videos come and go and I bought quite a few of them but none have given me as much satisfaction as this one, plus a few other Raquel exercise videos! If I could get a new copy of this tape I would be ecstatic! I wore it out and every other Raquel exercise video I have had!! The rest are in mint condition. Does that tell you anything? Raquel, make them re-release your exercise videos!! I'm begging you!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More than "Stretch"
This is one of the best stretch tapes I've used (I also have Kari Anderson's ALC and Tamilee Webb's Beginner Stretch.) The warm-up is energetic and flowing, not at all static. I could not WAIT for the arm work to be over - who would have known you could "feel the burn" without weights! I would have liked leg work without having to use a chair (I don't like moving stuff around in my house), but I definitely felt my hams stretch. The ab work was typical crunches. The instructor is very self-effacing, which I find refreshing after so many "in your face" video instructors. She makes funny, scrunched-up faces (not intentionally, either!) and acts like she is having a hard time making it through the exercises herself - or at least she's just as happy as I am that certain segments are done! Finally, the ocean setting (a beach in Jamaica) is both relaxing and inspirational. This is one tape I plan to use tape again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gentle and rigorous
This is a surprisingly rigorous workout. It uses gentle, but effective stretching and pulling motions that are not at all jarring, but will leave you pleasantly sore the next day. Miranda's fluid style of stretching will both energize and relax you, and by the end of a single workout you may find that you are more flexible than you were just an hour before. If you're bored by yoga, but also tired of beating yourself up with jumping, punching and kicking, try this workout. It gently, but effectively works the muscles, especially the upper body, while improving flexibility from your fingertips to your toes.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME WORKOUT TO CREATE A LONG, LEAN BODY!!!
I have a extensive collection of workout videos (OVER 40), and this one is my favorite to thin the body!

I love the location where they shot the video, on a tropical beach, which is very uplifting. Most videos are shot in a studio in L.A. The workout itself is not jarring to the body. The moves are based on ballet. I have thinner legs and arms, and a flatter stomach doing this 3 times a week! This video is also a good stress relief.

Miranda Esmonde-White (the istructor) is very encouraging during the whole program. I can tell she really cares and is not going thru the motions.

******If you want something that make you feel more like a ballet dancer than a weight lifter- give this one a chance.*****

A TRUE JEM!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely workout
The title and the look of the workout can be very deceiving. Though I recommend previewing all workouts before you do them, you're really not going to know how hard the work is until you do it.

Her arm work is killer, and your shoulders and triceps will burn like you won't believe. Although I really like the rest of the workout, it was the armwork that got me really excited- I'm always on the prowl for upper body work that doesn't require weights (or pushups).

Her ab work, while consisting of mostly conventional crunches and oblique work, is very well set-up and she gives great form pointers. While I'm never going to love crunches, I do feel this much more than when I use other videos.

The standing barre series works balance as well as flexibility for the legs, and the floorwork can best be described as the Pilates Side Series with a twist. She emphasized pulling the leg away from the hip socket before lifting, and the exercise becomes that much harder.

Although I enjoy the "parts" tapes for the upper and lower body that Esmonde-White also released, I like this tape slightly better because you also get a nice stretch for the back as well as a total body stretch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Workout Challenge" is one of Jane's best videos!
I'm still in the old days of exercise tapes, and still use Jane's original Workout video. When I was able to get through the advanced workout, which was years go when I achieved that, I tried this tape. What a workout! You'll see that just by the opening 9 minutes - the warm-up. It really gets you going! The moves are more restrained and focused than the first video, but still, Jane puts her face against her chins during a leg stretch in the warmup! The aerobic section is a change because the original had nothing more than jogging, jumping jacks, twists, knee lifts and leg swings, which was included in the warmups. This offers an upbeat, and energizing 20 minutes of aerobics. Though I don't like the guy who leads it, it's still good. There are excellent stretches, and the segment for balance is also a nice touch. The abdominal section is probably the toughest segment of the video you'll face. There are multiple exercises before the relief of a stretch is given. This tape is still great, despite it's age - it was released originally in 1983. This is a tape you can buy and you won't get done quickly with and move on because this takes a lot of hard work and time to accomplish. I highly recommend this tape, especially to fans of her earlier videos, the pre-1986 videos particularly. This is a workout that does have aerobics, but has much floor work and toning rather than the later videos focusing on cardiovascular exercise. FIVE STARS HERE!

5-0 out of 5 stars The toughest workout Jane ever put to video
If you can get through this entire 90-minute exercise tape in one session you can call yourself far, far above the average in physical fitness. I'll be honest: I still can't do it. I typically run through the first 40 minutes, (warmup, then arm strengthening, then a fun 20-minute aerobic dance routine), and then I'm too pooped to continue. So I'll save the remainder for the following day, (mainly calisthenics for the waist, abs, legs, hips and bum-- more or less in that order). And I still can't get through all the exercises in her abdominal sequence. But this is still one of my favorite exercise videos, mainly because the 20-minute aerobic section is a really fun routine, and also it's challenging. You never walk away from this one feeling you didn't work hard. (By the way, you don't even need hand weights for this video. It's a series of stand-up exercises and floor exercises, plus the aerobic routine. So you just need running shoes for the first section, and then maybe a mat for the floor if you don't have carpeting.) Jane is, as always, very clear and concise and never leaves you wondering what you're supposed to be doing next in any of the steps. The music is pretty good and it doesn't feel too old even after you've done the tape over and over, (know what I mean?) This video may be especially good for dancers trying to stay in shape because it includes a fair amount of flexibility stretching and even a sequence of exercises to improve your balance.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is a video I aim to grow into... slowly
I started working out 3 months ago... started with dancy aerobics and step workout videos with a bit of weight lifting. The cardiotraining has put me in shape for the cardio section in jane fonda's challenge, but i can't keep up with her yet. She starts with a 10 min. warm up of some very classic moves working your legs and waist. Before you know it you are on your toes and burning your calves! Following this is a 5-8 min arms section that burns burns burns and blazes; weight training has not been able to give me the burn these exercises give my biceps and triceps! Never knew you could tire out your arms without dumbells, but Jane Fonda does that and fast. The 20 min cardio, should you be able to do it, will make you supremely fit. Its short but demanding; it makes me feel like I have been sprinting. I find now that it has taught me to breath deeper which gives me the energy to carry through it with relative dignity. I am catching up. By the end of the cardio, you are approx 45 mins into the workout. This is followed by exercises that work your thighs and require balance. I ahven't seen some of these exercises before, except for the deep lunges she does; al these exercises are executed while standing. Jane Fonda's waist exercises, also done while standing, worked musles I thought I used enough in house work. But I guess I was wrong. THe day after I did the wasit section, my waist and its sides were sore and felt great. The waist sec is followed by a tough tough abs section that makes my pilates routines look like babyplay, topped off by mat exercises for the thighs, quads, butt and gluteals. Tough I said, but doable. I am already easing into this video, and I do better everytime. BEcasue the exercises need form and concetration, I feel I have had a mind-yoga workout at the same time. Great video... one that should be a yardstick. DOn't get it to primarily lose weight, but to challenge yourself and better yourself physically once you are already at an intermediate exercise level.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Cardio Workout!
This is a great video if you are trying to get a cardio workout. Most video cardio workouts barely hit the 30min mark.
However take it very slow and brake the video up into parts. The streching is okay, however I find the moves to jarring, so strech on your own. The cardio is very hard but great for burning fat. The toning work is good. Not for beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent work-out for those who need a challenge
This is the best Jane Fonda work-out video I have tried. I would reccommend this to anyone who has played a lot of sport and really enjoys physical challenge. I used to do martial arts and this is the first aerobics video that provided the level of challenge that compared to a martial arts class. I would recommend this to any aerobics instructors, dancers or anyone who is serious about physical training. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is one of my first videos and I absolutely love it. I use it every single day! I always had slightly heavier lower body. After using this tape for about a month i can really see muscles definition in my thighs, buns and definitely abs. After seeing the results it motivates me to exercise even more.
The timing of the tape is perfect for my busy life - 30 minutes.
I would say this tape is perfect for beginner / intermediate. I have been using this tape for about 2 month and it is getting a little boring and the exercises are not as difficult. To make it harder I am now using the ankle weights - it's like using the whole new tape.
The instructor is very good. She does all the counting and helps you with breathing. There is also a modification for each exercise - if the exercise is too difficult, you can always "follow Betsy" for an easier version.
Plus, the DVD included a bonus 10-minute total body work out.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GENTLE TONING WORKOUT :-)
I received this video for Christmas last year (2003). It's great! I've never done pilates before, but if you keep trying to do the moves, it will get easier. That is what I like the MOST !! You can see yourself improving, and you will definitely see more definition in your abs, legs, and stomach. (It's really motivating to see when you're 175lbs and 5' 2"). The first part concentrates on your belly, abs, and legs, in 10 minute segments. The second part incorporates all body parts. I usually do the first segment & skip the second one only because I'm lazy. But I HAVE done the second part of the video before, and it's a little intense if you're still not used to moving certain body parts. YOU WILL NOT LOSE WEIGHT BY USING THIS VIDEO ALONE. What it does is tones your muscles. Ya'll should see my legs! I would (and do) use this along with an aerobic form of excercise in your weekly regimen. Well worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout video!
I've never done Pilates before but have done Yoga, ballet, bellydancing, aerobics, cycling, running...well you get the idea. I like to do different activities so it doesn't get so "routine". I decided to check out Pilates and picked this up because I had a coupon for it. I thoroughly enjoyed this workout. The instructor explained the moves and she was easy to follow. I will definitely be incorporating this DVD along with her other Pilates DVD (Fat Burning Pilates) into my routine.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this Pilates DVD
I have just recently started Pilates. I read a lot of reviews of MANY Pilates DVDs that are sold at Amazon.com. I bought this one because of the reviews, and I would like to say that the reviews are correct!
As a beginner, I found this very easy to follow along. I did not think that anyone was annoying (ie Denise Austin) or talked too much. After the workout (I did all 3 segments at once), I felt really good.
I am actually lookig forward to doing this DVD again, which is more than I can say about other exercise videos/DVDs I have purchased.
I would recommend this DVD to anyone interested in Pilates.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
I love this work out ..... I never stuck to a diet or excercise but this i do!! It is 100% worth your money.... You dont have to do the thigh section or butt section or ab section... YOU PICK!!! I do the ab section and i have done it 2 days in a row took a break one day and did it today and already feel the difference. Do not expect a difference if you dont follow the breathing its major...... I am a huge fan of this and am considering buying more of the collection! ... Read more

This 75-minute workout helped Kathy Ireland lose 40 pounds after the birth of her baby. Ireland is joined by an outdoor class of exercisers of both genders and all fitness levels, including one woman who is doing her first workout ever. The first segment is 30 minutes of very simple, low-impact aerobics. The moves are easy and repetitious, which is good if you're a beginner or you don't like choreography, and boring if you're experienced or like variety. Beginners will appreciate that Ireland demonstrates moves such as the grapevine in slow motion instead of assuming you know how to do it. The next segment is 25 minutes of total body conditioning without weights, such as lunges, pliés, and pushups. The final segment is 20 minutes of lower body "meltdown," traditional floor work for hips, buttocks, thighs, and abdominals. While you're resting afterwards, listen to 15 minutes of questions and answers. --Joan Price ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners!!!
This video is great for beginners. I began using the tape over a year ago and still enjoy it. The video is broken done so even the most uncoordinated can do the steps. This becomes boring after doing the video for an extended period of time, but once you know the routine you can just keep doing it to keep your heart rate up! It's a great workout, and I still continue to do it twice a week. I have recently intergrated the TaeBoe workouts and also Denise Austin's Sizzler workouts into my routine. I believe Kathy's video has given me a great foundation to use these other more difficult videos. I am a mother of 3 children, so it's difficult to keep in shape. I think, the Sizzler workout is going to be the icing on the cake so I can obtain my goal in fitness and weight!

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, gets results
I was doubtful, but this video workout is excellent. She's a clear and enthusiastic instructor, and it's nice that the workout is broken into three parts. I'd like to find another Kathy Ireland tape that is similar -- not interested in the "12 minute buns" or high-intensity aerobics. This workout is great for new and experienced exercise lovers. An outstanding value, with no need to purchase weights. All you need is a mat or towel and a sturdy chair. Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple & Classic--Highly Fecommended for Beginners!
This is the perfect video for people who want to get into exercise slowly and carefully. The choreography is simple and easy to follow. The impact is low (be careful of your knees), but gets your out-of-shape heart moving. If you start out with this video and do it a couple of times a week (I do just the aerobics section on my easy days), you will see yourself improving without feeling burnt out. Then you can move onto something more challenging--slowly--and really see improvement! This video lacks the glitz and marketing apeal of other more current titles, but it's still excellent, albeit a tad boring, and worth checking out if you want to commit to a healthier lifestyle. Not recommended for people looking for a quick fix.

4-0 out of 5 stars one of the best workout videos ever!
kathy ireland is very supportive in this video. this is a great workout video for people who haven't worked out for a while or who are trying to find something they can stick to. she keeps telling everyone what a good job they're doing! At the same time the workout is fairly challenging. I used this video in coordination with a change in diet to lose 80 pounds. I would recommend it to anyone.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's pretty good..
The tape is broken into three parts. The first is aerobics and you just do alot of repititions of low impact moves. It's not very challenging but you can always add 3 pound weights for some of the moves for arms or leg weights. [that's wat i did] The second part consist of toning your legs mostly. You can REALLY feel the exercises for these. The third is basically also toning for legs and for abs but aren't as challenging so i suggest you to do your own sets for those. After all that, they have a 15 minute question session. The workout portion of the tape adds up to about a little more than an hour =/ so might not be good if you have a tight schedule. Also, i personally think the only reason they sweat so much is because it was so hot out there lol. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good aerobics, good motivation, but slightly boring.
I've been working out to Susan Powter videos off and on for several years. There are a number of good things about her different workouts. For one thing, her exercise "class" is not a group of superthin model types. There are some heavy, hefty people in there. This allows her to show you how to modify movements for your fitness level, as she says several hundred times.

Susan's before and after pictures of her weight are motivators, but even more so is her constant talking and encouragement throughout the video.

The movements are simple and easy to do, but require exertion. They can also be repetitive, involving the same stepping up and down on a box and the same arms lifts over and over. Personally, this caused me to lose interest; but the aerobic workout in the video is safe, easy to work with, and would work well as an alternating workout with strength training.

5-0 out of 5 stars She has a wonderful book too.
I forgot to write in my nov. review, that i also brought her book called "Food", which i found to be very helpful. i am trying steps in chapter 2, i don't know if i'll get up to chapter 3 steps soon.I hope Susan keeps writing and making more videos, she is a true lady that has had to learn from Food mistakes , like the rest of us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ms Powter does a wonderful job !
I bought this video for 2 reasons. One,when the weather goes up to 85 degrees,I'd like to wear summer clothes without fat-flapping arms. Two, women have a history of bone loss as we age,and as grandmother said "prevention is best" and I don't want to wait until I have the problem. I also think it helps with posture.Ms Powter has women of all sizes (26-6) doing the program and shows us in each stage of weight, what that person should do,no one is excluded.Susan is very good at explaining each movement, and the benefits of that move. This lady can "Walk her Talk".This is a must buy for every woman. ... Read more

Outdated, but nonetheless a good workout. Fun, but way too country.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great starter exercise video!
I used this tape for years before moving on to more advanced tapes. The choreography is kind of old-fashioned, but remains fun. It's only 20 minutes long and easy to learn. The instructor is cute and upbeat without being cloying. I still return to it occasionally on low-energy days. Since it's low-impact, there are no worries about overdoing it. Definitely recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like to Dance???? This is the aerobics workout for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS TAPE MADE ME STRONG
If you are already in good shape, this tape will help you maintain/get stronger, if you need muscle toning and strengthening, this tape will help you. I did not have much upper body strength before I did this tape and "Firm Strength" on a regular basis, but after about two weeks of alternating the two tapes, I noticed I felt and looked stronger in both my upper and lower body areas. Like all the Firm videos, it is high quality and moves smoothly from one segment to the other. My favorite exercise on this one is the last thing which is the gluteal exercise while wearing ankle weights. It is tough, but it really did firm up my butt and other areas. You can modify it by using no weights at first, (recommended), lighter, than heavier weights as you get stronger. Good teamed with "Firm Strength". See my review of that.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Really Tough Tape
This video is mostly weights. If your looking for a video with more cardio, this is not the one you need. If you want results, I recommend using this tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious Fitness for excellent Results
This is a serious work-out for serious results. I rate it as 5 stars because it is effective, well cued, well organized and delivers great results. Whether or not this would be a good workout for you will depend on several factors:

If you hate exercising and are looking for something that would motivate you to get off the couch for 20 minutes this will probably not be the best choice. This is geared towards serious exercisers who do not need/want bright settings, cheery instructors and the cast-having-a-blast atmosphere to keep them going.

For those of you who lack the time be warned, this is an hour long work-out. Also although it is called a cardio work-out this is not all aerobics. You work with weights, but you do so in a manner that keeps your heart rate up and you DO get a good cardio work-out. The FIRM cardio workout was designed to be done alternatively with FIRM Strength workout, where the moves are slower and weights are heavier. Alternating these two gives beautiful results.

If having a room full of equipment bothers you, don't bother picking this tape up. You will need a set of dumbells (3, 5 and 8 lbs recommended) and two step boxes 8-10 inches for cardio, 12-14 inches for sculpting. Ankle weights are optional but recommended.

If you do have the time, the equipment and the commitment then this is a great choice. You will see results a lot faster than with traditional beginners work-out tapes and for maximum results you may want to alternate this with the FIRM Strength tape as recommended. You may also want to try FIRM Tortoise and Hare cross trainers for variety.

This is a fairly advanced work-out, although not as difficult as the original FIRM classics in my opinion. Still, it gives great results and is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a thorough body workout (upper body, lower body, abs, cardio etc) and does not need a "motivator" for an instructor who keeps telling you to keep going and not give up on him/her. Heidi concentrates more on giving exceptional cueing and instruction on proper form. The only non-instructional thing she says is "that was tough". It was! ... Read more

If you're on the lookout for effective ab exercises and you don't like to do the same workout every day, this 27-minute video is for you. Five instructors lead you through five different ab workouts, each five or six minutes long (that's plenty for working the abs!). Before the exercises start, you get some technique instructions for doing effective crunches and reverse crunches. Then get ready for serious, non-stop ab strengthening. Though each workout is short, you'll be groaning from the intensity and specificity of the exercises. Some are traditional ab exercises; some use weights. Realize, of course, that if you really want to trim those abs by losing belly fat, you'll also need to do aerobic exercise (to burn off body fat) and reduce caloric intake (so that you don't eat back what you just burned off); abdominal exercise alone won't do much. --Joan Price ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Looking for a new ab video?
If you are looking to work those abs in the least time possible, then this video is for you. In less than 10 minutes a day you can get a complete ab workout -- upper, lower, as well as obliques. The video is made from spliced portions of other Firm workouts so you get 5 different instructors, just like in the original "5 Day Abs". Although this video seems a bit easier than the original, it still provides a tough ab workout and a nice change of pace. There is not much instruction during each segment on proper form so beginners may want to watch the segment first before they try some of the moves. If you can only get 1 ab video, I would buy the original "5 Day Abs" first, but this would be a good addition to your video library if you need a little something different to stay motivated.

5-0 out of 5 stars More 5-Day Abs is more interesting than the original!
I have the original 5-Day Abs by the Firm which is cut from videos from their Classics series (primarily from the 80s). Most of the classic Firms are great workouts, but somewhat dated, so the ab routines do not seem that innovative or interesting. But More 5-Day Abs has ab routines from the Firm's more recent videos, so you get to experience some really different routines that are not the typical boring gym class crunches. There is one routine in particular on day 3 with Tracie Long where you do obliques (muscle on the side of your abdomen) sitting on a chair that really works because I felt it the next day. This tape is a great resource if you want to add an ab routine every day to your fitness regime, whether you workout with videos or not. I would even recommend it over the original 5-Day Abs because it is so diverse and interesting. You will not be bored with this tape!

5-0 out of 5 stars FLAT ABS GUARANTEED
I haven't used this video in a while, but when I did, my abs were the flattest they've ever been. It's only a few minutes a day, but it is the toughest ab workout I have ever found. You might get the urge to scream out in pain, but it'll be worth it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ab workout!
I have done many different style of ab exercises, practically memorizing the most effective ones. This tape offered ab work I had not done before. It is tough but very good. I also liked the music selections. If you are a fitness enthusiast and really like the "burn" this is a great tape to have.

1-0 out of 5 stars Relative to other Abs videos, not very good
This video is not very good at all. I have been using the 8 Minute Abs video for a few weeks, and I have seen results already! I thought that I would add some variety to my routine by using a different video, but in choosing this video, I failed! The workouts are for those who squeeze in workouts during their lunch break without any time to shower. You will not break a sweat with this one. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good calorie burner and muscle toner
Kathy Smith's Fat Burning Workout is a fairly simple, low impact workout that will get you sweating and burning calories. Built into the aerobic sections are "focus" segments which focus on a particular area of the body (such as the thighs, biceps, triceps, etc.). There are also modifiers for those who have trouble with some of the moves who are just starting out. Leg exercises traditionally done on the floor are done while standing, so this would be a good video for people who don't like getting down on the floor. Overall, you should definitely notice your waist getting smaller and stronger muscles (especially in the legs) developing on your body if you can stick with this workout. This video is simple enough for a beginner, but good for anyone wanting a good overall workout to burn calories and tone muscle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Burn the fat, tone the muscle!
With this video, you have an effective aerobic session and SIMULTANEOUS muscle group toning, not before, not after, DURING! Kathy says there are three new discoveries here: LOW and SLOW - lower intensity target range keeps you in fat burning state. LONGER TIME - to change shape, the body starts to burn fat as chief fuel. If you exercise beyond 15 minutes, greater percentage of energy comes from fat deposits. And last: MUSCLE TONING - coupled with continuous movement.

This 70 minute 1988 tape is nearly 40 minutes of fat burning, topped off with effective cool down and floor stretch.

The program is well structured and divided into six segments, these usually average 5-6 minutes and when doing the workout, it can seem much longer. Fat burning charts and exertion charts pop up periodically.

Kathy's exercise group consists of about six other students, average, plain looking people, no fluff to distract you. You will see Modifiers, a person who will perform the lower impact version if needed. Also, inserts pop up to show the particular muscle that is working at the time and its proper name.

Music is tolerable. Steps are very easy to follow, and are done without constantly changing, I like that!

Sections One through Six focuses on arm and leg movement working theouter thigh and buttocks, leg work, knee lifts, obliques (waist), biceps, triceps, middle back, hamstring lunges, focus on quadriceps, gluts, inner thigh, hips, efficient cool down and stretch

There are a few select exercise video tapes I prefer and Kathy Smith is one. This is one of the better tapes because it includes Fat burning and muscle toning in the same steps! You get it all done with this tape. Excellent......MzRizz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best standing abs work- great for a bad back!
Just a quick note- the cardio work in this tape includes some unique standing abs work that is ideal for people who suffer from lower back injuries and can not do traditional floor ab work. You do a lot of standing crunches that make you pull your abs up and in with no pressure on the lower or upper back .

I have been incorporating this tape into my workouts for variety and use the standing ab work that Kathy teaches on my own as well for pain free abdominal toning.I have multiple herniated disks and regular crunches put too much pressure on my spine even when I am spot on perfect with my posture and positioning- this is nice compromise and the number of repetitions assure results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Energizing Workout Video
This video is awesome. I feel so energized after I do it and it keeps my energy up for the rest of the day. I have been doing the video for 2 weeks now and have lost 5 pounds! It really works your behind and hips.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good For Beginners
I have been a fan of Kathy's for about 5 years now and decided to explore other tapes because I was getting tired of the ones that I have, Like Weight Loss Workout, Lift Weights To Lose Weights, Cardio Fat burner, Pregnancy Workout, and Fat Burning Breakthrough. I read the reviews on the Fat Burning Workout from 1988, (which don't bother me)and thought I was gonna have a great workout. Yes, I broke a sweat, but nowhere near as much as I did in the Weight Loss Workout. If your a beginner, this is a great start BEFORE you buy the Weight Loss Workout which is one of the best workouts I ever had, I did that one for about a year. But in this video,I do like the fact that your getting both cardio, and strength at the same time throughout the workout, but a little to easy, ESPECIALLY if you like a lot of cardio. Great workout for beginners, and lazy days. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good all-rounder
This is an older aerobics workout tape, but the workout is still great. You get a total body workout in about 45 minutes. The use of two instructors is nice for variation, and the camera angle is like you're part of the workout group following along with the instructor. Recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overall 45 minute workout
This is a good overall workout for the intermediate to advanced exerciser. It has a mix of aerobic and weight training sequences. Susan Harris is an excellent instructor, but extremely thin to the point of looking anorexic. Perhaps that is why they have obviously retouched her photo on the video case. Kia (sp?) does the aerobic sequences and is not the best at cueing upcoming moves. I think The Firm has improved their teaching of aerobic sequences in later videos. This is obviously an earlier, less polished effort. I will say that Kia is obviously a gifted dancer.

Despite these small criticisms and observations, I find myself going back to this tape time and time again for several reasons 1. mix of aerobics and weight training 2. good intruction from Susan Harris 3. strong abs section 4. great workout in 42 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheesy? No. Classic? Yes!
Yes, the hair and costumes look like 1990, but the moves, sequencing, tight choreography, and excellent production quality make this video timeless.

Susan Harris and Kai Soremekun provide excellent cueing in this no-nonsense but entertaining workout. Short sets with heavy weights, alternating with aerobic segments, give a great, complete workout in minimum time. The ab section is innovative and very effective. The cooldown/stretch is wonderful, and the optional "dance" at the end is just plain fun. Composer Marc Aramian wrote the music specifically for this and the other original 6 Firm videos. It's perfectly synchronized, so you don't have to listen to monotonous "gym music" or deal with music that doesn't match up with the instructor's moves.

I have more exercise videos than I care to admit to, but when I want RESULTS, I always go back to the Firm.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easing Into The Firm
For those of you familiar with "The Firm", you know their workouts are TOUGH. This one is a great way to ease your way into the Firm. This is only 45 minutes long, but it's a full-body workout, combining aerobic, step & strength training intervals. You'll need a set of handweights (3,5 & 8 pounds are a good starter set) and one set of ankleweights (3 or 5 pounds). You'll also need the firm box (now called the fannylifter). If you try to use a normal step, it won't be as challenging a workout. The taller the step, the higher the heartrate, and the faster your legs will shape. I know it's a drag to buy exercise props, but this is one prop that makes a HUGE difference.

5-0 out of 5 stars This one is hard to beat!
As a Firm Believer for over fifteen years, I have just about all of the Firm Tapes. This one, formerly called Tape 4, combines heavy weights, cardio, and abs in just forty three minutes. When I want to sweat, turn fat into muscle and do it fast, this is my favorite. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes it's tough but WOW
Three gals rotate guiding the routine for you.Yes it's tough to follow, especially the first time, but if you can force yourself to try it a couple more times it's challenging and makes your realize just how out-of-shape you may be!These girls work you hard for 50 minutes, It's aerobic and as you move you are working chest and abs, extensively and constantly. If you are serious about working out and getting in shape this tape is great.Takes discipline and many times I quit early cuz they really tire you out.

2-0 out of 5 stars Definitely Not One of My Favorites
I like exercise videos that are easy to follow from beginning to end, yet challenging at the same time. I found the aerobics section of this video to be confusing; the toning section was ok. I'm sure I could get the hang of the routine if I used it more often, but I have other videos that I enjoy a whole lot more.If you're like me and you don't want to spend precious time stopping constantly because you've gotten off track, don't purchase this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great results in my chest and upper body.Like this one!
I have several of the videos in this 2000 series and chose this one often.I find the exercises challenging and effective. The instructors give clear instructions and beneficial cues to get the most out of eachmovement.I would recommend this video to anyone looking for a greataddition to their regular fitness program.Leisa, Tracy and Nancy areentertaining and down to earth in each of their low impact and toningsegments.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good toning section but the aerobics are confusing

5-0 out of 5 stars Platinum series
What I like about this video and other videos in the Buns of Steel 2000 Platinum Series is the specific workout plan; knowledgeable, fun instructors; and length (50 minutes). One of my pet peeves about exercise videos is the smiling people behind the instructor who add nothing to the experience. With the platinum series team, you have three instructors who each lead different intervals of the segment and effectively work different parts of target area. They give pointers and guide users on using the correct technique to do the exercises correctly. You will not become bored and wonder "when will this be over?" Part of the challenge of the series is learning the choreography, but when you get it, it's an awesome workout. Also, if time is short users can do part of the workout one day and the other part another day. I have all but one video of the entire series (which I'm in the process of getting) and I love them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent workout!
I had this video in the early 90's along with several other Buns of Steel 2000 videos but gave them to my sister when I had my first baby since I didn't think I would ever have time to exercise again. The aerobic section in the first half makes you feel like you're dancing instead of exercising. The toning section has great exercises and with three instructors alternating with their different styles, the workout doesn't get boring. I am thrilled to have the Buns of Steel series back in my workout collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Aerobics plus toning for your lower body.
If you like to do aerobics and toning together and specifically want to work on your lower body, this tape may be for you. Co-instructors Tamilee Webb, Donna Richardson, and Tracy York begin by each leading their own aerobics segments. They utilize easy-to-follow dance moves, throwing in variations like a latin or funk beat. After the aerobics section, you move on to the target toning for the lower body, begining with standing exercises (lunges, plies, etc.) and then eventually moving to the floor. Again, each instructor leads you through a different segment of tough leg, hip, and [glutes] work. The exercises themselves are nothing new, but they're clearly effective. All three instructors provide very good cueing, but I found them each to be much more low key than they are on other tapes. However, if you are looking for a basic aerobics and toning workout, you will probably like this tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars I feel a difference already!
I started using this tape after I had severe knee surgery and lost a lot of muscle. After only a few weeks I see and feel a tremendous difference. It's great!

1-0 out of 5 stars You had better know magic
This tape is too difficult to keep up with, it has too many dance moves and it is too hard to catch on to. I prefer a step tape, most people especially beginners would have a hard time and would most likely give up trying to use this tape. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great video!
This is the first exercise video that I have been able to follow and keep doing (I am a bit uncoordinated). Tamilee provides excellent instruction and good motivation without being too corny.
The routine goes by quickly (almost too fast) and I can feel the burn in my lower body when I am finished. I really like the video and I am able to do the routine twice a week without dreading it. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to work on their lower body but isn't able to do a lot of lunges or follow complicated steps.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tamilee Webb is awesome as the video personal trainer
This video works wonders for beginners. It adds a little bit of challenge for the people who want it too. I also liked the wonderful fitness advice Tamilee Webb gives the workout audience. This is a workout tape for women and men as well. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice and easy way to tone up.
Tammi really works your "buns" and I got terrific results in about three months.

I also walk two miles a day. Both the walking and using the tape daily helped me look better in my clothes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very encouraging results!
I was really a die-hard anti-exerciser, and I got this as a joke, but it is really terrific. It is easy to follow and I saw results VERY fast! I'm here looking for more tapes by the instructor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the newbie!!
I am not a fan of exercise but this is the one tape I keep going back to. I love it! It's great for those of us who aren't exactly coordinated, too. The routine is easy to pick up, the pace is just right for the newbie and best of all, you see the results quickly!! I've worn my tape out and am here buying a new one!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good workout but kind of reptetive
I use this tape 2 to 3 times a week for the past 2 weeks and i gotta admit it can be struggling to get through. There are just so many lat rows. Its definitely the feature of this workout. Not enough bicep work at all. I have to suuplement with my own bicep work.

All in all though, it is a good workout and it leaves my arms shaking and burning. I will have to write another review in a few months to let you know my progress or mainly, how big my upper back has gotten from all these lat rows LOL

3-0 out of 5 stars It's good, but oh so cheesy
My arms are still shaking from the workout, but the music, outfits, big hair and makeup is enough to bring you back to the 80's! Janet Jones is so cheesy, I laughed out loud! There are a lot of push ups and shoulder work. Overall, it's pretty good, but I didn't like the 'ambiance' of the video, especially changing from instructor to instructor.
