5-0 out of 5 stars helped my late talker!
I was concerned with my child's speech at 14 mos. She was only using a couple of words and was not babbling very much. This video was recommended on the Baby Center online language and learning concerns bulletin board so I thought I would give it a try. My daughter responded to the video the first time I put it in! She copied some of the sounds and imitated some noises. Plus it kept her attention! It has jump-started her babbling and she continues to enjoy it each time she watches it. Now she says all the words in the video and more.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!
I received this as a gift for my daughter's birthday and we LOVE it! The different sounds and music keep her very interested. She has picked up on the sign language and tries to talk more and more everyday. I would definately recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great interactive and fun learning tool!
I received this video as a gift when our son was one year old. He is now 20 months old and continues to love this video!!! I love how interactive the video is. We often watch it as a family and imitate the sounds and actions we hear and see. I personally learned a lot from the parent tutorial and strongly believe this video has helped in the development of our sons speech. I often will see him mimic the actions, sounds, and concepts that are so vividly projected in this video in his everyday play. I highly recommend this video for every child.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this video!
I used this video for the first time with my 5 month old daughter. She was intrigued and entertained, watching it many times from start to finish. Now she is 19 months old and absolutely loves it! It is the first video I have seen that she actually participates and talks with. She makes the fun noises, does the sign language, and has learned most of the words. I am so happy to have gotten this video. I would highly recommend it. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good watch
This is a good movie if you want to learn the basics about Lions. If you need specific behaviors about them, buy something else. I watched this for an Animal Behavior class and I needed to do alot of extra research to find specifics. Overall a good movie!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great, but not the best.
I think the reviewer that said this film was about bugs got his tapes mixed up, because there is nothing about insects in this film at all. The documentary follows a pride of lions, particularly a young male that was born late and became orphaned. His story is intriguing enough to base a film on, but we also witness an old lion desperately trying to cling to the life he once had, and the intricate process of raising a cub. The only reason I gave this documentary four stars is because it ends rather abruptly, leaving the viewer wondering what happened to the male cub and his fellow pride-mates. Another twelve minutes would have done this film some good, although I was thoroughly satisfied with my purchase...(from a rival company...sorry Amazon...I'll never do it again...you guys were cheaper anyway!!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Lions of Darkness
This is absolutuely amazing video made by two tf the greatest wildlife filmakers in the world, Derek and Beverly Joubert. I strongly recommend it to anyone. It is informative and moving.

1-0 out of 5 stars Come ON...National Geograpic!! this is a stinker
This video leads you to believe that it is about lions, when, in fact there is a bunch filler about frogs and bugs etc. If you have been to africa, you know that this is a sorry representation the lives of lions. It is about a pride of lions in decline. There is so little lion footage, they have resorted to filler stuff that is not related to lions. Further, the reproduction quality of the tape is poor. Kiley is wonderful, as usual, but they give him very little to work with. This might appeal to a fifth grader but is clearly not up to N.Geographics standards. AVOID!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Wildlife Film!
This is one of the best National Geographic videos to date. The footage, content and filmmaker's narration is outstanding. The story of a motherless lion cub growing up in a pride is one of the best real-life dramas I've seen. It takes a viewer into the world otherwise unseen and inexperienced by a human. A viewer has glimpses of the every day life in the pride of lions. Joubert's film portrays the hunts, the roles of males and females in the pride, the struggle for survival, interaction between pride members and other inhabitants of Savuti. Another great film from Derek and Beverly! ... Read more

All the water-loving regulars, from sharks and penguins to starfishand seahorses, make an appearance in this installment of the excellent kidseries from National Geographic, Really Wild Animals. Information provided by an animated version of planet Earth (voiced by an enthusiastic Dudley Moore) is balanced with poppy musical odes to clean water and deep-sea creatures (sample lyric: "If you need a cheap hotel, crawl inside an empty shell"). In this 44-minuteunderwater tour, viewers visit the Great Barrier Reef, join caged diversamidst circling sharks, and listen to a trainer talk about the size of dolphin brains. It's a hard-to-resist addition for anyone who enjoys watching a diver dwarfed by a giant jellyfish or seeing an octopus, in all its squirmingglory, outwit a wolf eel. This is mainly for animal lovers from preschool through elementary school, although parents will undoubtedly learn something, too. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Video for my son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son AJ loves this video so much, he watches it very often!!!!! This video is really entertaining and educationl.I got AJ a Really Wild Animals Giftset and it came with this video.AJ loves animals and land animals including the Killer Whale (Orcinus Orca) and he wants to get more Really Wild Animals videos for Christmas.

5-0 out of 5 stars WORE OUT THE OLD TAPE, NEED TO BUY A NEW ONE!
My family loves this tape so much, it was actually worn out. The picture kept getting worse, so I felt it was time to buy a new one. We've bought several of the "Really Wild Animals" videos and found them to be very educational (and Dudley Moore is always funny to listen to), but the "Deep Sea Dive" is definitely a hit in my house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful video for young and older kids.
My 4 year old son received this video for Christmas and watches it almost everyday. He's very interested in animals, especially sea animals. I like the fact that it's very educational and that it keeps him interested and wanting to learn more. He's going to get more of this type of video for his birthday coming up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great informational value!
I have used this video when teaching an animals unit in Science. My students absolutely love Deep Sea Dive. It is now June, our animals unit was over in December, yet this is the video they request most! The video is jam-packed with interesting factoids, which my students love. I recommend it to anyone. It is the best of the Really Wild Animals series.

This total immersion approach to language means that no English isspoken on this video, and only the occasional sentence is translated onscreen. Instead, viewers are treated to five sections of objects, concepts, or actions while a woman identifies them in Spanish. The first section shows a boy (niño), various people, and animals eating (comer) and an apple (manzana) and then puts it all together (El niño come la manzana!). Thesame method is used for numbers, colors, manners, and phrases and then another section of familiar words and phrases. The 40-minute video comes with an introduction and the lessons spelled out in a fold-out cardboard display attached to the video box. This is a serious effort meant to teach children a second language while they are still quite young. But that won't stop children from enjoying the brightly colored video of animals, toys, and a multiracial cast of kids. Ages 1-5. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bilingual Baby is the BEST!!!
I love this video!! But more importantly, my daughter loves this video. She's been watching it since she was 4 months old (she's now 15 months) and it is still her favorite video. The music is lively and it goes slowly enough and is repetitive enough to really capture a small childs attention. At 4 months you would think it is too early, but she loved it then and even now, it is one of the only things she will watch. It probably works well for up to about 3 or 4 yr olds. Other t.v. is boring and cartoons or animated videos do not capture them like real people and real objects. Best of all it is TOTAL immersion which is next to impossible to find. I hope this company makes a part 2 to this video soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good approach
Our baby is only 7 months old, but this video holds her attention better than any others. It uses a unique approach of building up sentences word by word. Obviously she hasn't started speaking any Spanish (or English word for that matter), but I feel like when she watches this video she is being exposed to the Spanish language (not just a few choice vocabulary words). I highly recommend this product!

5-0 out of 5 stars Toddler, Mom + Dad All learning Spanish
We purchased this video based on other Amazon evaluations. We are so happy we purchased this video. We wish it was on DVD, but it's not available that way. Even still, it's no big deal to fast forward past the very brief intro (no commercials for other videos, YEA).

We got this for my son when he was 8 mo. old (now 18 mo). He loves Bilingual Baby - Spanish even over the Einstein Videos - of which we have like 10! He happily watches it without getting distracted.

Additionally, I think this video quickened his learning of the concepts of yes and no.

It's so easy to watch. My husband and I have learned - especially the pronounciation. The video focus is on phrazes and words babies and toddlers use most, making it practical too!

As a Mom (and the primary cargiver) I find none of it offencive. Which is saying a lot for this neurotic Mom!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that good
My seven and three year old were interested but some of the images in this video were confusing. It's definitely not worth buying. You're better off getting it from the library or buying some cartoons in Spanish instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars My 2 year old son loves it
My 2 year old son loves this tape. We knew he was entertained by it, but didn't expect him to pick up much of the Spanish. He's surprised us by using several Spanish names for things and actions, like eating, drinking, ball, cat, etc. all spontaneously. I feel like it's really helped his lingual development. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This video is my 7 month old daughters favorite!
We used the baby Bach and baby Mozart videos when our 7 month old was younger and she loves them, but Neighborhood Animals is her all time favorite. She sits in her walker and watches the animals and even tries to talk to them. She gets excited when the pupets/animals make sounds and loves the music. She smiles and starts making her little baby sounds everytime she see Pavlov the dog. We used to put her in her swing and let her watch Bach or Mozart while we get ready for work in the A.M. But with this video she got so excited in the swing that we had to put her on the floor or in her walker! Even though the age recommendations are 1 yr to 4 yr I highly recommend it for younger babies. I took the video over to the sitters and she said all the kids liked it and watched intently. (the ages are 8mth, 7mth, 5mth and 2 years!) I'm not a big fan of sitting my daughter in front of the TV; however, when both parents work and you need to buy a little time in the morning this is the greatest! I hope your children love it as much as my daughter does!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another good video for a rainy day
This video is what you would expect from the Baby Einstein Company--puppetry, classical music score, toys, live action children and video footage of animals. It's designed around 4 themes, animals in the house (dog, cat, mouse), yard, (bird, rabbit, bug), farm (cow, horse, pig)and river (frog, otter, duck). My 14 month old daughter enjoys it, especially the children singing "Old MacDonald" during the farm sequence, and the flying cow marrionette. I didn't give it a full five stars largely because, on the whole, the quality of the puppetry (as opposed to others in the series like Baby Shakespeare and Baby Van Gogh) is not of the same caliber and the toy sequences don't seem to have the same level of wit and humor that sparkles in the other videos. My opinion is that this video is simply following their tried and true formula, granted, it is one that, judging from my child's reaction, works well, but maybe needs some fine tuning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great toddler-pleaser!
I recently bought this video for our 2 year old daughter, who has loved the other BE videos for some time now. She absolutely loved it! She has always loved animals and so this, along with world animals are her favorites. I've actually caught myself interested in it while doing dishes even! These videos are aimed toward birth to toddler ages, however even our five year old loves this one with all the animal footage. I highly recommend it- a great way to settle down before naps, too.

2-0 out of 5 stars child's attention not held
I have used Baby Einstein products in past but I have found the more recent titles lacking in the entertainment quality of the older titles. My child gets bored pretty easily with them now, and actually gets a little scared with some of the segments. I am concerned that these products are being made too quickly without being tested on young children.

4-0 out of 5 stars Only one complaint
This video is very good. It is simple and enjoyable. My only complaint is about the sound. It is of poor quality. It sounds muffled and it is quite loud. It is mostly the music and not so much the sound effects and the child's voice that sounds bad. If the sound were better I would have given it five stars. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the others but still great....
Eyewitness - Ocean continues the great tradition of scientific family entertainment. This edition: Ocean, focused on Earth's greatest natural resource: the ocean. While I enjoyed Eyewitness - Ocean, I didn't enjoy it as much as Eyewitness -Volcano or Eyewitness - Plant. Most of the information was very general and the visuals weren't quite as clever.

Still, this is a solid installment, sure to entertain those interested in science and the environment.

5-0 out of 5 stars great sea film. contains footage of the deep ocean.
This film about the sea and it's history is excellent to watch. I love the underwater footage and clips of mysterious and fascinating deep ocean creatures. The pressure down there is scary to think about but, fun nonetheless. This has just the right amount of computor graphics and real footage to make an excellent video!
Take a close look at this Eyewitness nature masterpiece...

3-0 out of 5 stars not for young children
This Eyewitness video, like the couple others we have viewed with our preschoolers, is interesting for us adults, but not at all entertaining enough for young children. Too much talking! Not enough action!

The sea creatures are covered too quickly and without enough captivating video to hold preschoolers' attention. And many of the creatures are frankly boring, unless you're old enough to understand the wonder and mystery of it all. These videos are really geared to junior high students, at least.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 and a half,not just for children
This movie, even though short,is very colorful and I am sure it is not designed specifically for children,it is for everybody, but also gives children a look at the deep deep black bowels of the sea and of the land! People should discover this film instaed of terrible cartoons! And,of course after all, people should take this movie as an everybody movie and not as a toddler film! So sit back and enjoy this serious movie and STAY AWAY from cartoons!!end!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Everyone
We bought this video at a discount store in London for 2 pounds, not expecting too much for that price. But this video was great! We learned so much ourselves, but our son loves it even more - he's been watching it since he was 1 year old. It helped with his speech, hopefully he's learning lots of good stuff, and the clips are short and fast enough to keep a small toddler interested throughout. So far we have four in this Eyewitness series, and they are all great. We are so happy he can watch this instead of Teletubbies! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eyewittness Planets
I bought this video many years ago. I love it! It is well narreted and has good footage of the planets.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for young and old!
My grandson, who is now 5, has watched this video over and over since he was 3. He practically has it memorized! He has had an interest in space and stars since he was a year old. For anyone interested in fun facts about our universe, this is a great video! Our whole family enjoys it! Well narrated!

3-0 out of 5 stars not for young children
This Eyewitness video, like the couple others we have viewed with our preschoolers, is interesting for us adults, but not at all entertaining enough for young children. Too much talking! Not enough action!

And the video techniques used (like completely unrelated objects combined with each other in artsy ways; for example video of planets superimposed onto video of museum-style rooms to make it appear as if each planet inhabits its own room in the museum) just confuse literal-minded preschoolers, who believe the planets actually are in those rooms and are undoubtedly getting a really mixed up idea about planet size.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent video for an Astronomy class
Through the use of computer graphics, and photos obtained from outer space, the video presents a "field trip" through the planets that make up the solar system. It is short in length (30 minutes), and retained the student's attention. I would recommend it to anybody who is looking for an economical video that still contains a lot of useful information.

I have used a number of Eyewitness videos to enrich the experience my students have in class, and found them all to be excellent. ... Read more

Multisyllabic words and reference volumes pique Blue's interest in this double episode focusing on vocabulary and books. But the inquisitive blue dog and her preschool audience have the effervescent Steve, a talking end table, and silent signing librarian Marlee Matlin to help them through this wordy lesson. In "Words," Steve and his pet plow through their Big Bag of Words, coming up with contrasts like enormous and miniscule. Blue has sorted the pair's books into categories in "Blue's Book Nook," and she generously loans out her tomes to the neighborhood animals. But it takes a trip to the library to figure out which book she wants to read. This 50-minute program is perhaps more aggressively educational than most kids' fare, but it's so entertaining that preschoolers won't notice they're learning. Watch caterpillars munch through vast quantities of greens, mummify themselves in cocoons, then emerge as glorious heralds of spring. I'm a homeschool mom of 2. My 3 year old and 5 year old loved this. My 5 year old watched it over and over. She kept yelling to me, while I was cooking, all the things going on. Boy, she learned a ton. My son kept yelling to me that a man ate a bug, but he was learning as he was watching. I love the computer graphics, so great for children.

Like all the videos in the "Eyewitness" series, this one is fast-paced and hold the attention of children (and adults!) of all ages. It features beautiful photography of butteflies and moths inflight, mating, laying eggs, etc., combined with zany things like how much salad you would have to eat to match the appetite of a caterpillar, some silly folklore (swallow a buttefly to get pregnant? ) Best of all, you get to see a Chinese guy eat a big fat catepillar. Kids might go "yuck" but they never forget this educational video. There's a trailer explaining how they did some of the special effects, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it, My kids love, and the neighbors love it
Where has this video been hiding? Everybody I show this video to absolutely loves it, it's amazing. This guy (Rich Grogan) is good, and he is great with kids. I have never seen kids take so much interest in exercising. I put this video on and they get busy. I have tried a great deal of kids exercise videos for my kids, and I have tried a few adult exercise videos for myself, and I tell you this is heads & tails above anything I've ever seen. I normally don't write reviews, I just don't like doing it, but this video is worth the time to write about. Go Rich Grogan, my family is all new fans of yours.

At first I thought the price was a little high compared to some of the other kids videos, but after watching this video I would have paid $100 for it - it is that good. And, it's not just a matter of me loving this video, it is the feedback I'm getting from my kids. They actually enjoy exercising. Rich's motivation & enthusiasm is second to none, and my kids really pick up on it - They love this video. As I have mentioned, this video is number one, my family loves it and I am sure your family will too.
Thank you Rich, my family loves your videos - we are fans for life.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Incredible Program - EXCELLENT
This is absolutely the most incredible program I've EVER seen. I generally don't write reviews, because most exercise programs I've seen don't deserve the time it takes to write one. So if I'm taking the time to write this one, let me tell you it is worth it. The words incredible, great, and excellent don't even come close to describing this program, I just couldn't think of any more powerful words to use.
The guy on this video, Rich Grogan, has really got something with this program. First of all he is fun, and entertaining for the kids. And the kids that are actually in the video are having fun (genuine fun, none of this paid actors fun), they're feeding off of Rich's positive energy, and having a good time with it. This is one of the major hooks that pulls you in, these kids are glowing with fun, energy, and excitement, and it is basically thrown into your living room when you watch the video. My kids at home can't just sit on the couch and watch this program, they have to get up and actually do the program. It is almost like some super-natural force grabs them and pulls them on the floor to begin exercising with Rich & the kids. I know this may sound strange, and I am sure some people are saying to themselves, "there is NO way my kid would be this excited about an exercise program". Well, I'm telling you it is true. And, it's not like my kids have only watched the program once or twice, we have basically wore out our VHS copy, and that is why we bought the DVD, which is even better, because now we can skip through to certain parts of the program when we are short on time. What I've been doing in the mornings, before summer camp, I'll get the kids up and pick a section of the video (DVD) and have them do that section before we leave for summer camp, or do the same at night before bed. I really would have thought by now that my kids would be tired of this video, but the way Rich has set the program up, it is still challenging for them. Rich continually tells the kids to have fun, and to do their very best, and to just do what they can. But he makes the program so darn fun that the kids really apply themselves, and do what they can to become better at the moves. Anyway, Rich does sets of 15 instead of the normal set of 5 or 10, this way, as he explains it, the kids can continue to advance within the program, because maybe they can only do 5 push ups or jumping jacks when they first start the program, but the goal is to reach 15, so they have to keep practicing at it. Another interesting thing Rich does is, he has the kids visualize they are grabbing apples & oranges instead of punching each other, or an imaginary opponet. At first I thought this was a little goofy, but once again as Rich explains it, it takes the violent aspect out of the technique, it makes it more fun for the kids, and if the kids pretend they are grabbing something they get a better stretch throughout the entire movement, both forward & back.
Did I say this video was Incredible?
I could list about 10 more things, but I think you get the picture. I'm telling you, BUY THIS FOR YOUR KIDS, it's amazing!
Hey Rich, if you read this, Your program is the greatest! Thank you from me & my kids!
Sincerely,
Thomas Jacobbson & Family

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW - This is one incredible program
This program is absolutely amazing. I have NEVER seen kids respond to a program, (especially an exercise program) the way kids respond to this one. I just put the tape (Now the DVD)in and the kids are lost in a world of exercise. I am sure this sounds crazy, especially how kids are today about exercising, but I swear it's the truth. I read several of the other reviews and I wasn't quite sure my kids would be as wrapped up in the video as others had stated. - I was wrong. My kids LOVE IT, we have played the tape over 25 times, and now we have the DVD (which is great), and I don't know how many times we are going to play it.
Take my word for it, this program is the most incredible program I've ever seen for kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Amazing
I agree 100% with the other reviews. This video is pretty amazing, and just like the other reviews had stated, the kid's involvement is even more amazing. I popped this video in and the kids didn't move from the T.V. Now, I can't tell you that they did the entire program the first couple of times, but they still watched it. And, after about 3 times watching it they got through the entire program with only a few breaks. This is another awesome feature, because a lot of exercise videos, especially childrens leave no room for growth. Meaning, you have mastered the video the first time through, and after watching it a second or third time you are bored with it. This is especially true for children, who get bored of just about anything after a few times. But, like I mentioned this program is different, it is challenging enough to keep the kids trying, but not to tough where they lose interest. In my opinion it is a perfect balance, which in itself is pretty amazing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Schoolhouse Rock Testimonial
When I was in third grade I never could get my times tables down pat- the sevens and twelves proved especially tricky. So my mom checked out this video from the library, and that changed immediately. I could rattle off my multiplication tables as fast as everybody else after watching this only a few times. Amazing! That same year I got put in advanced math. Coincidence? I think not! All the songs were just so catchy. I loved it when I saw the NIKE commercial playing "Three is the Magic Number", that's one of my favorites. Anyways, parents, this is a great buy for your kids and I doubt that you'll get tired of the tunes.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best instructional videos in the world!!!
I remember watching this on television when I was a child and learning my multiplication tables. When I found it was available publically, I immediately purchased it for my son who is now 11. He remembers his the same way I remembered mine -- by singing the songs!!! I would recommend all of the Schoolhouse Rock videos for anyone who has children, because it's never to early to learn. By the way, the only way I can remember the Preamble to the Constitution of the United States is to sing the song from America Rock!

5-0 out of 5 stars This has 2 much excitement
you tired of learning multipliplacation by talking and no videos?Well, those days are over because of Schoolhouse Rock!-Multiplication Rock (1973).This is more fun then just having to talk about multiplication and not understanding it.It has songs, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
EXCELLENT TAPE. REALLY HELPED MY NIECE WITH HER MULTIPLICATION. EXCELLENT TAPE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Schoolhouse Rocks!
I am a teacher of 13 years. Many people know that there are 5 specific learning styles and these tapes address many of these styles through innovation and repetition! Catchy songs have seen many of my classes singing to themselves and gaining confidence on tests and test scores! I cannot speak any higher of the series! GET IT!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful infant/toddler entertainment
I actually bought each one of these VHS tapes separately...and STILL I'm thankful that I've bought every one of the tapes in this series. My son (now 15 months) LOVES to watch these tapes, clap, squeal, and "dance" to the music. I'll let him sit in the living room floor, and enjoy the entertainment! While it gives my husband and I the much needed break! These videos put sight, sound, and motion all into effect. It's a fun way for little ones to start learning about animals, foreign language, ABC's and 123's, and much much more!

4-0 out of 5 stars We love them!
I've been recommending these videos for years to friends. We have them all now. This set is great because it has Baby Mozart in it....definitely the best of all of them. However, my children 3 1/2 and 18 mos. love the other 3 too. Both my children recognize the music played when my husband plays his cds. If they see toys or paintings that appear at stores, etc. they point them out and tell me which video they appear in. I just wish they hadn't put Baby Doolittle World and Neighborhood in the same set. I also wish these sets were on DVD!

3-0 out of 5 stars The better of the two gift packs
We got this gift pack and volume one for a baby shower gift.
Volume one is not so great, but Volume 2 has Baby Mozart and Baby Van Gogh in it, which are both great. If you enjoy the Baby Einstein videos and don't have these, this deal is pretty good, since these are the best videos in the collection. My older daughter Emmie is just over two years. She doesn't get very much stimulation from them, but will still watch them with her new sister and me. ... Read more

If this video's female-run pride of 30 lions were guests on a talk show, the audience would spend the entire 60 minutes chanting "You go, girls!" Lion life is dysfunctional enough to make most people feel pretty good about their situations. First, the males have deserted the pride to start new ones with younger lionesses. Secondly, as the pack roams the jungle in search of game, the females have to fend off rogue males who want to take over. The males are shunned because: a) they'll kill the cubs of other males, and b) they'll grab the lionesses' kills for themselves. More functional animals get some airtime, too. Baboon parents try to get the kids to sleep; male and female tree frogs lay frothy egg bubbles together. But it's hard to compete with the drama of those queens--and a few kings-in-training--of the jungle as they growl and claw at each other over a wildebeest carcass, while narrator Richard Kiley informs us that "by the end of such a meal most of the pride will have at least one small injury." Still, it's heartwarming to see that after the meat is devoured the lions mend fences by licking each other's wounds. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so much 'Lions' as 'African Night'
This 1987 video follows an unusually large pride of 30 lionesses and cubs in Kruger National Park in South Africa. That said, only about 10-15 minutes of this 60 minute video actually show lion footage - and that footage is not terribly exciting.

The remaining three quarters of the video are worthwhile for a nature lover, if not for a lion lover - they cover mostly smaller creatures that one normally wouldn't think of making a video for. Memorable scenes include a small snake that catches and swallows a centipede larger than itself and a spider catching a frog.

If you're specifically looking for lions, though - especially if you want to see them in action as well as in their more common poses of relaxation - I would instead recommend one of the videos of Derek and Beverly Joubert, also from National Geographic. These include 'Lions of Darkness', as well as my personal favorite, 'Eternal Enemies: Lions and Hyenas', which despite the hyena on the cover has more about lions than hyenas. There should be links to both in the 'recommendations' above.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could be better
This video's title is a little misleading. The video is not only about lions but other creatures of African night. It has interesting footage but a weak story. If you are interested in seeing a great lion documentary from the same region, watch "Lions of Darkness" instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For all children
This series on sign language are for hearing, or deaf. They are also great for children with different abilities.
At different times I have watched the series with the following aged children;
a seven year old, one year old, a four year old, or a 3 year old (autistic).
They all loved the shows.
American Sign Language great for all kids
(I love the series too).

5-0 out of 5 stars High Energy, Captivating, Educational
My 3-old-daughter, a long-time fan of Signing Time Volumes 1-3, cannot get enough of this video. After watching it for five days, she knows more than a dozen of the signs used and produces them without any prompting to communicate with me. She also sings several of the songs, particularly the Family song.
My daughter is very bright and precociously verbal, with normal hearing. We like Signing Time because it exercises a different part of our brain; it is fun; and it is laying the foundation for acquisition of a second language. And I also use it in teaching her Spanish. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for the whole Family!
If you and your children already know and enjoy Volumes 1, 2 and 3 of "Signing Time" with Alex and Leah... You are going to LOVE Volume 4!

Rachel Coleman's talent, personality and enthusiasm really explode in this video (in the series of 6 videos - so far) designed to teach American Sign Language to children of all ages and abilities.

The pace is a little quicker in these new shows, Alex and Leah use their voices more, and there are some older kids (and even teenagers) demonstrating the Signs. This is definitely the 'next step' in learning more Signs to use in your daily activities at school and at home with kids of all ages.

The Music is wonderful, again showcasing Rachel's singing and songwriting abilities. The songs are cute and catchy, and they teach us positive messages about Family, expressing your Feelings, and going OUTSIDE to PLAY... All while teaching us lots of fun and useful ASL Signs!

I highly recommend this video all to parents, grandparents, teachers and childcare providers.Learning ASL is a wonderful education in communication in which we can all benefit.Volume #4 is a natural progression to learning more ASL Signs and Songs to use with your children or students!

She has many signs under her belt and loves watching Alex and Leah and learning more. These have given her a hunger to learn more. This Video is one of our faves and we love the music and songs that accompany these videos. They are pleaseing to the eye, not only for Children but for adults also. we never get tired of watching them. I have always had a desire to learn sign language and these videos have promoted it in such a way that even I ahve a hunger for more. Rachel Coleman the producer has done an excellent job in helping to reinforce the words not only in sign but also in written form and also in audio form throughout the video, so my child has not only learnt signs but also new words as her vocabulary expands.
These are a must buy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
I have a toddler who's crazy about fish, and this video is loaded with them, a big hit, he loves it. I think it would be great for kids of all ages (adults too), lots of great facts and camera work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for children- revised review. Big comment.
Something scary may be contained in this video, such as the Fangtooth deep sea fish that may cause chills up people's spines. Other scenes too. Big children like 8-9, or 12 can easily handle this, but below may be occasionally scared......

4-0 out of 5 stars not made for toddlers, too informative for them of course!!!
This film is somewhat suspenseful in many scenes where smart fish hide to catch their ill fated prey! As I said in the title, the movie is not made for toddlers, even though they just might learn something from it! It is made for people my age and up,just as horror classics are! Another belief of mine is that 20 Salmon can tear up a human in revenge, together equalling the strength of a shark!! Other fish like Scorpionfishes can kill a silly child or human by thrusting teeth into a person's shoe and ending their life in just a few hours from that awful time! Many fish can multiply and overcome humans in bravery, such would be rare thing, but it is possible enough!! Not too many people can climb a large waterfall,as powerful salmon can! Also the strength of a terrifying Anglerfish of the deep can easily injure humans with large and ferocious looking teeth, but pressure of those deep, dark dark waters can usually crush a man in a second! Last but not least a Sailfish can drive it's long nose into a person! In conclusion, the film will entertain and educate a large number of persons!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Flounder, Clown Fish, Archer and more!
This video was great. I checked it out from the library along with Ocean in the Eyewitness series, and while I found the Ocean tape informative, it was dull. Then I watched the tape on fish. Marvelous! Tons of fish footage and I learned so much! The action shots of the fish using their disguises, defenses, camoflague, etc. was something my son and I could watch multiple times. The fish that fishes for his prey, the Archer fish that shoots a stream of water to knock bugs from high places in order to eat them, the Gobie who lives with a shrimp...it's all so facinating! My 3 y/o son adores fish and wants to know more about them, so I've been looking at numerous fish and ocean books and videos....this one is impressive, what's more is that it will definately grow with him. The video is appropriate now and will continue to be as he ages. There is nothing frightening or overly graphic in this video... but it is a nature video and does not sugar the way that ocean life is. But Eyewitness videos keeps in mind that their audience is children... and produces a video delightful for all ages! ... Read more

Without the usual wildlife footage (since cameras obviously weren't around millions of years ago), the folks at National Geographic get very creative in the dinosaur segment of this 44-minute video. Using a combination of traditional and stop-motion animation, a paleontologist interview, silent-film stock, and clips from corny dinosaur movies, narrator Spin (planet Earth as voiced by Dudley Moore) tells the prehistoric slice-of-life story of a Hadrosaurus-egg-stealing Struthiomimus member who, in turn, meets an untimely end at the claws of raptors. As the second segment's title suggests, "Creature Features" is framed as a faux horror movie with Moore adopting a creepy tone as he tells of blood-sucking (and regurgitating) mother bats and squirming maggots who metamorphose into flies. By using this format, the episode has it both ways. It uses a spooky façade to entertain the kids, while debunking the very horror movie myths it capitalizes upon. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My 3 yr. old son loves this one!
We rented this video and my son watched it about 10 times. After we returned it to the store, he kept asking for it so I am here at Amazon.com to buy it for him. He loves "Spin" the narrating globe.

4-0 out of 5 stars Highly Entertaining
I watched this video with my two sons, ages 6 and 13, and we all loved it! The music, the photography, the animation, the narration and the fun (and sometimes gross) facts make this video well worth it. What an entertaining way to get kids interested and involved in learning more about the world around them!

4-0 out of 5 stars Really wild animals
My two sons (ages 5 and 3) LOVE this video. Not only does it cover some of their favorite topics- Dinosaurs, bugs, spiders and snakes - but it also includes very interesting, factual and detailed information. And, it makes it fun! Parents will find this interesting as well. It would be a good idea to watch it WITH younger children as some kids may be disturbed by the more graphic/scary dinosaur scenes. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best ways to get started in Sign Language!
We got this tape as a Christmas gift for our 3 year old boy, who is not hearing impaired but we are trying to introduce him to sign language with several books and tapes. It was a very pleasant surprise for us when we watched the tape; we were fearing it would turn out to be a little bit boring for him, but it was not only fun, he wanted to watch it several times and even learned a few signs the first day. It was also great for us, I found it very interesting and my husband and I ended up signing along with the stories. Linda Bove is great, the stories are loved by children and adults, the acting and the signing are simple, entertaining and easy enough for everybody. It is very easy to identify words such as "cold", "hot", "forest", "tall", "low", "girl", "wolf", "father", "mother", "baby", "bear" and many more. I would definitely recommend this tape to everyone interested in learning sign language or teaching their children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Both my kids loved this movie!!!
I have two children, an 11 month old and a 2 year old. Both of our kids were fascinated with this movie and sat quietly watching this movie all the way through. We have started teaching our 2 year old ASL and showing a few signs to our 11 month old. This movie is a perfect mix of simple signs, music and scenery. After watch the first time our 2 year old learned new signs. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to introduce their toddler to ASL.

2-0 out of 5 stars not interesting
This tape could not keep my child's attention. My child is Two and just may not be able to relate to the stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kindergarten teacher and after-school sign language teacher
I highly recommend this video. It is great. I wish I could find more like it!

5-0 out of 5 stars My great experience with sign language!
When I first put on the tape Linda showed the sign language and they had a narrator to tell you what she said. I caught most of what Linda said and practiced the signs. I am getting better at it but I have to learn more. In the two stories they do the sign slow so you can catch it. My mother and I watched this and we both enjoyed it alot. For all of you sign language fans get this tape it is very good.I watch it over and over and over.....
I am getting the hang of it. ... Read more
