4-0 out of 5 stars Try It! You'll Like It!
It's very easy to get caught up in Sailor Moon because the characters are very likeable, and you'll want to see what happens when Serena and Raye try to enter a wedding dress sewing contest, or when Serena enters a modeling contest as much as seeing the Sailor Scouts defeat Nephlite's latest evil schemes. The characters' daily lives are as much a part of the show as the heroics are, and that makes you care about the outcome of the episodes more. There's also a couple of sweet episodes about how Sammy broke Mika's prize winning doll, and the beginning of the story of Molly's ill-fated crush on Nephlite (a.k.a. Maxfield Stanton). I would reccomend this tape (and Sailor Moon in general) to anyone who likes anime, that doesn't mind American dubs. Be forewarned, however: Sailor Moon can be a highly addictive series!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best anime ever
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon brings back so many memories. When I was very young and Sailor Moon first came out, I found it by fate by flipping the channels. Back then no one else watched it and it was on at 6:00 in the morning. Many years later I reunited with it and then I ordered the Japanese episodes fansubbed. The Japanese episodes were amazing. Back then their was no official distributer, so I ordered from a fansubbed distributer. The Japanese version was so different form the American version. It was completely different. I love both versions though. The English version brings back memories from my childhood while the Japanese version is uncut. It's fun comparing the episodes and seeing how much was changed. This version, however, is the edited and changed. It cuts out many scenes and makes a lot of changes. While it has changed a lot from the original Japanese version, it's great for a trip down memory lane, and brings back my childhood memories. This volume has very important episodes. Usagi/Mamoru and Serena/Darien are my favorite couple ever. This volume is very touching and romantic. While it makes a lot fo changes from the Japanese version, it brings back memories from your childhood. Tuxedo Kamen is so wonderful and charming. He was my hero when I was a young girl, and he's still me hero now. He will always be the most charming anime man. I love Tuxedo Kamen/Mask. He is so wonderful, and hot. Anyway, this is recommended by me, but I suggest you buy the Japanese version as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT EPISODES
SAILOR MOON fans will love this videotape which includes 4 episodes of the cult Anime series.

"Wedding Day Blues" - Serena and Raye enter a competition to win an all-expenses-paid honeymoon trip to Hawaii, while their beloved teacher Miss Lambert is abducted by the Negaverse.

"Shutter-Bugged" - Serena enters a modeling competition, but the young teenage photographer has been brainwashed by Neflyte.

"Dangerous Dollies" - Sammy gets into hot water when he accidentally breaks his friend's award-winning porcelain doll.

"Who is That Masked Man?" - Molly is almost killed when Neflyte becomes convinced that she is Sailor Moon.

    Highly-recommended.

Another great video in the Sailor Moon series. This is something that the whole family can watch together. My daughter absolutely loves these shows. They are funny, and set a positive example of friendship and love. Watching Serena and her friends as they stop the evil plans of the Negaverse is great fun to watch. We have purchased all of the videos in this series so far. I stongly recommend all of them. ... Read more

High-pitched, relentlessly fast paced, and filmed in eye-gouging gumball colors, this video series combines two previously released dubbed episodes from the Japanese animated series, along with a couple of new ones. The adventures of a group of schoolgirl superheroes, Sailor Moon is a lighthearted kiddy variation on a ubiquitous Japanese subgenre, stories of alienated adolescents granted paranormal powers and enlisted on the side of virtue in apocalyptic struggles across space and time. Imported to the U.S. in an attempt to create a post-Power Rangers franchise for girls, the show never became a mainstream megahit in the states, although it still has passionate fans (thanks to airings on the Cartoon Network). The chirpy, giggly tone may be off-putting, but the level of visual imagination (and the self-sufficient courage of the young heroines) can be exhilarating, especially when kids and parents watch together. This first volume kicks off with the "secret origin" episode, "A Moon Star Is Born," in which Tokyo middle-school student Serena is transformed into the title character by the occult power of a mysterious locket. She acquires a cute sidekick (a talking cat named Luna), and in the three succeeding episodes she begins to assemble her support team of spunky Sailor Scouts, with names like Sailor Mercury, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus. In the second episode, "Talk Radio," a phantom radio program is somehow connected with the door-to-door delivery of flowers whose fumes put people to sleep. Also includes the episodes "Slim City" and "So You Want to Be a Superstar," with a total running time of 90 minutes. These edited shows are appropriate for fans age 5 to 12. --David Chute ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Watch out
Hmmm, how should I start this review...well, one way is that I'd like to say that I highly don't reccomend this series to anyone. Don't get me wrong, Sailor Moon is a fabulous story about 5 teenage schoolgirls who are Usagi Tsukino, Ami Mizuno, Rei Hino, Makoto Kino, and Minako Aino... that is if this was the original version. However, they are renamed into: Serena, Amy, Raye (Short for Rachael), Lita, and Mina. Besides that Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon has a plot of 5 Sailor Warriors who weild witchcraft that is used to destroy the Dark Kingdom's demons that try to gather energy (Episodes 1-24), Steal the 7 Nijizishou (Episodes 25-34) and find Princess Serenity and obtain the Ginzishou (Episodes 36-43). During this series, Usagi Tsukino finds out she's a reincarnation of Princess Serenity, the daughter of Queen Serenity and inherit's the Moon Stick (Crescent Moon Wand in DiC and ADV versions) that performs exorsists that free demons from innocent humans. However, all this is changed in this tape. There is no "Witchcraft", it's simply "Super-powers". The demons are called monsters, violent scenes are toned down alot, some episodes having over 5 minutes cut out. There is no swearing, or sexuallity in any sort. It is over 58.6% non-related to its original form. The story is ompletly changed, and the scripts are totally re-written. Overall, I'd perfer "Sailor Moon - Season One - Complete and Uncut" which is the whole first season uncut, and free from "DiC", except for the dub terms used. However for young children, I suggest the edited version, the uncut version may be too "adult" for them.
Rated: TV-Y7 for mild fantasy violence
    My Rating: 5+

5-0 out of 5 stars charming anime
SAILOR MOON is a charming Anime series based on the popular Manga comic books. 14-year-old schoolgirl Serena discovers that she is Sailor Moon, a soldier given the task of bringing to justice the evil Queen Beryl of the Negaverse.

To stop the evil Queen Beryl from taking over the Earth, Luna the magic cat seeks out Serena and reveals that she has the powers of the magic Sailor Moon. Although she's unsure of herself at first, Serena quickly learns that with belief in yourself, anything is possible. Together with the mysterious Tuxedo Mask and her friends, Sailor Moon leads the fight for love and justice! And when Amy discovers that she is really Sailor Mercury, the Negaverse and Queen Beryl don't stand a chance! Earth has a new protector, and her name is Sailor Moon!

Contains the following episodes - "A Moon Star is Born", "Talk Radio", "Slim City", "So You Want To Be a Superstar", "Computer School Blues" and "Time Bomb".

This is a great DVD to add to any anime collection! Some think this anime is too girlish but once you get into it, it is a very exciting anime that will keep you off the edge of your seat. Try it, you will like it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon: A Heroine is Chosen (Vol. 1, dubbed DVD)
I own this DVD personally, and I must say, if you are a Sailor Moon addict like I am, you'll love it. It has the original first six episodes (season 1, dubbed), and is a must-have for any Sailor Moon fan wishing to start their Sailor Moon DVD collection. In episode 5, Sailor Mercury, or Mizuno Ami (Amy Anderson if you must, but I'm so used to the Japanese names) appears. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars The First Movie!!!!
I really wanted this as a video, and for Christmas we got a DVD player, so I bought the DVD! I've never actually seen it as a video, so this is kind of hard to find. Here are the stories o it:
A Moon Star Is Born: One day, a talking cat named Luna comes and tells Serena Tsukino that she's Sailor Moon. Then, she has to save Molly from a monster.
Talk Radio: Serena likes a new show on the radio, but when Molly and Ms. Haruna get prizes from it they fall asleep!
Slim City: Serena thinks she's fat, so her and some other girls go to an exercise place but the bad people try to take their energy.
So You Want to Be a Superstar: There is a contest, and all of Serena's friends start acting weird, and at the show they all fall asleep because of a monster.
Computer School Blues: Serena thinks the new girl, Amy, is a bad person, but then she turns into Sailor Mercury!
Time Bomb: Serena and her parents get new clocks but they make everyone act strange and the Sailor Scouts get stuck in a weird place.
This is my favorite Sailor Moon video/DVD because it tells how she first turned into Sailor Moon! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Anime
Only one word... GREAT! If you enjoy Japanese cartoons this is a must have, no matter how old you are. If you like adventure, you got it. If you like comedy, you got it. If you like mythology, you got it. If you like sheer non-stopping fun, you definitely got it. This series charm resides best in the fact that the characters' personal lives don't remain stagnated as it happens in most cartoons, and best of all, people grow old. It's not like regular cartoon shows where the characters remain at the same age forever. People are born and grow older just as in real life, which in my opinion is a good thing for children to watch, so they can lean that life is constantly changing. The structure of the action, where a problem appears and they have to strive to fix it is also educational for it teaches children that no matter how wrong things may get, if they work hard enough they can make it right. And since it's an ongoing saga, the Box-set format is ideal for newcomers because you can watch an entire story-line at once. I truly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars the beginning begins
this was a good box set, exept for a couple of minor "flaws", like having it edited, pioneer should of made at least an uncut version also, even for the namek box set, but i think funimation will make an uncut version when there done with the rest of the sagas. Another flaw is throwing out scenes that shoudn't of been thrown out like the first episode, they removed gohanhe running from a tiger and goku finds him hanging on a tree next to a water fall. Another scene they threw out was when gohan was training under piccolo and gohan falls in a cave and tries to escape. During that time he meets a robot who helps him. they shouldn't of thrown out those scenes, but you cane see them in japenese with english subtititles in the movie dead zone. There is one more deleted scene that can't be viewed in the american version. Launch is in a bar drinking and cries because she saw tien die by nappa and pays the barkeep a bunch of money cause she's too drunk. other than these flaws they have good fights, first apperances of gohan, nappa, vegeta, the sayain race, radditz, gregory, bubbles, and king kai. i reccomened buying this set if your a collecter

3-0 out of 5 stars A good saga turned bad
The saiyan saga is one of my favirot sagas and for good reason. Unfourtinaly this part of the series was translated before the golden age of uncut dbz. All things that make dbz great have been ethier edited or totaly destroyed for no reason. let me ask you a question . Why do people watch dbz? Some watch it for it's original story , others for it's uniqe characters, but personaly I watch it for it's incredible 100 mile an hour, intence hard hitting, action packed, fights. Yes, that is why we watch dragonball z , but funimation totaly blew it in this case . For exaple , when a person gets punched in the english version they erase the scene where the fist conected and just show two seconds of flashing light. Im sorry but this certanly does not satisfy me . On another note the incredible diologe and music that the japanese version was known for was replaced with some ... noises that sound like they were recorded in sombody's basment. Even if you can look past the rediculice eddits and poor quality you still will not be satisfied with whats left. The only action is in the first tape and in the last three. The other four tapes are just filled with such nonsence as goku chasing bubbles and Gohan saving a pake of orphans in the wilderness. If I were you I would just buy the first and last 3 tapes and save a couple bucks.

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish that I could rate the box set 900,000,000,000,000,000,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gohan gets saiyan napped by Radits. Goku teams up with Piccolo to save him. They save Gohan but Goku dies. Piccolo takes the young saiyan (Gohan) to a desert wasteland for special training while Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yajirobe train for the saiyans stronger than Radits!

Goku travels the long rode of Snake Way in search of the martial arts master King Kai. After one year th saiyans finaly arrive. It seems that the saiyans are unstopable. Tien, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu are gone. Piccolo saves Gohan, but this sends him to another dimention as well. When all seems lost for Gohan and Krillin Goku comes back from King Kai's planet. With the Kao Kin power in store Goku takes out Nappa and hurts Vegeta. Goku body is thrashed as well so it is up to Gohan to fight the saiyan until Krillin can throw the Spirit Bomb (given to him by Goku) at Vegeta. The spirit bomb is thrown at Vegeta... but find out the rest through the movie it self!

3-0 out of 5 stars Be warned! These are the edited dubbed episodes!
    INTRODUCTION:
Dragon Ball Z was the follow-up to Akira Toriyama's surprisingly successful Dragon Ball series. Although his first installment of the classic series was more of an adventure-comedy type series, the Z series pretty much focused entirely on sci-fi martial arts action - which makes the Z series far superior to its superior. The series has become popular all around the world, and it's no surprise that a box set of the first season was released here in the States. Read on for my review of the Saiyan Conflict box set.

    BASIC PLOT:
The story for the Saiyan Saga, the first of four major sagas that make up Dragon Ball Z, goes something like this. Five years have passed since the classic Dragon Ball series ended. Goku is now married to Chi Chi and the couple has a son, Gohan (named for the old man that took care of Goku as a child, rather obviously.) Unfortunately Raditz, an alien, comes to earth, telling Goku that he is his brother, and that he was sent here to destroy the planet. Goku joins forces with his arch-nemesis Piccolo to defeat this menace, but Goku is forced to sacrifice his life for the cause. With his dying breath, Raditz announces that two other members of his race are on their way to earth to collect the Dragon Balls and wish for immortality, and that they are far stronger than he is. For the next year, the Z warriors train, and many of the non-warrior types go off to find the Dragon Balls so that Goku can be revived. But will all this training be enough to defeat the Saiyan elites?

    EPISODE/DVD OPINIONS:
When you do anime DVDs, it's an unwritten rule that the DVDs include both an uncut English dub version and an uncut Japanese version with English subtitles. AND ALL THESE DVDS HAVE IS THE EDITED DUB! I admit, the voice actors FUNimation hired for the dub version all do the voices of their respective characters well (all except for Vegeta's), but the dialogue is too inaccurate and Americanized. Also, a good deal of footage was cut (nearly HALF of the first episode was cut out.) And needless to say, the violence was reduced so that the series could be aired on American television stations. This is NOT the Dragon Ball Z real fans want.

    OVERALL:
My advice is NOT to purchase this set. I recently heard that Pioneer will lose their rights to the older episodes of the series soon, and when they do, FUNimation will redub the episodes, and hopefully rerelease them on DVD with the original Japanese version intact. So hold off and see if that happens. ... Read more

Matchpoint for Sailor Moon was the very first episode I ever saw of this show, and it got me hooked forever. How can you not fall in love with a character stuck inside a huge tennis ball being bounced around? This collection is by far my favorite, and if you're a Sailor Moon fan, you have to agree these are some of the best. This video has it all- action, intrigue, romance, and meatballs.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT EPISODES
SAILOR MOON fans will love this fabulous videotape which includes 4 episodes of the cult Anime series.

"Cruise Blues" - Amy and Raye win a trip on a romantic cruise-ship, while Serena uses her 'Disguise Power' and stows away to join them. Little do they know that the cruiseship is only an illusion and that Malachite is harvesting the passengers' energy for the Negaverse.

"Fight to the Finish" - Jeddite has almost worn out his welcome with Queen Beryl, who gives him one last chance to capture the Scouts. Sailor Moon, Sailor Mars and Sailor Mercury are going to have to use all their powers combined in order to destroy him once and for all...

Also includes the episodes "Match Point for Sailor Moon" and "Unnatural Phenomenon".

Anyway, on to the movie. It was *okay*. I didn't give it one star because I liked the ep where they defeated Jedite. (Jadeite is the CORRECT spelling)! I wish they had this movie subtitled and in my beloved Japanese. :) I am not Japanese (most of us on here aren't) but I am learning it and I've fallen in love with this language. 4-0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon S review
    ****
This is a close second for my favorite Sailor Moon movie. The plot is all about Luna's love for another human and a mysterious ice queen who plans to take over Earth by freezing it. Unlike the other Sailor Moon movies, this one goes more toward a human plot (or cat plot) than a superhero, save the world plot, and I think that's what makes this work. The only problem is toward the end it wants to turn into a save the world movie. The violence isn't there, even in the un-edited version, and neither is the language or sexual themes like the other features.(namely SM R) So this is the most suitable subtitled version for the younger viewers. Don't get me wrong, it isn't like the dub, it still has it's subtitled qualities. Such as the barbie doll-like nude transformation sequenses- which, of course, is edited out in the dub to where it looks like they almost have nothing. The main plot is where Luna falls in love with a human who saves her and nurses her back to health. She then proceeds to ponder about what love is and relizes that the best thing for him would be to stay with the woman he already loves. The second plot, which is paper thin, concerns an evil ice queen who wants to freeze and take over earth. She sends down her ice creatures to accomplish it. This, of course, gets Sailor Moon and the scouts attention who then proceed to stop her. Meanwhile, an ice crystal that she needs to take over Earth has been found by non other than Luna's human love. This is making him deathly sick and Luna then tries to save him. Once again, there is unintentially hilarious scenes. Namely the one where Luna is asking Usagi about her love with Momoru and with a sigh (that sounds like "HaDeHa!) she falls off the dresser and with all four paws spread she goes "LaLaLaLaLa." After a few times of watching this you'll be laughing your head off. This is another great Sailor Moon movie that hasn't been butcherd by Dic. The dub isn't as bad as the first but the sub is still much better. I definately recommend you add this to your anime or sailor moon library. One more great reason for buying this movie is because it's our only chance to see the outer senshi in their original Japanese glory.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies
This movie is focused on Luna and an astronomer kakeru who saves her life from getting hit by a car, and takes care of her when she is sick. He discovers a stone that was sent here by princess snow kaguya who plans to freeze the earth. The animation on the dvd is so much better than the vhs. If anyone is saying to themselves ill buy the vhs because its just sailor moon and its cheaper. Don't, because its not worth it. With this dvd you get japanese and english language. English Subtitles, and great animation. What more could you ask for.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotionally Intense Sailor Moon Movie
This review is for the edited, dubbed version. I have not seen the uncut one.

Hearts in Ice is a beautiful, action-packed, sailor-stuffed movie that will make you cry. For an animated movie, the love story in "Hearts" is as intense as one in any German opera or Russian novel. And, the one struck by Cupid's arrow is not one of our schoolgirls or their chums - it is little Luna.

Every senshi is in this movie, with the exception of Sailor Saturn. We get to see them all work together, ALL their gorgeous transformations, and ALL their attacks. The climatic battle where they all unite is amazing, and had to be saved for a film: it is too cinematic for a thirty-minute TV episode.

The lameness of the villian and her annoying henchmen can be overlooked because of the crisp and gorgeous animation and the skilled voice talents. The winter setting is a refreshing change from the perpetual spring/summer of the series.

I do not feel I have missed out by watching the dubbed, edited version. I own a variety of both sub and dub, cut and uncut SM, so I know what I am saying when I feel nothing has been compromised here. Finally, this movie is not a short one like SM R. It is a full-length feature, so you will get your money's worth, even if you pay list price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its like an end to the season
I bought this movie a long time ago when Sailor Stars was

4-0 out of 5 stars I Laughed My Way Through This One!
The only reason I am giving this a 4 out of 5 is because I always appreciate the Japanese-with-English-subtitle editions better. Since I had little choice in that matter when I was looking for a new VHS anime with my girlfriend (she only has a tape player) at Suncoast Videos, I looked at the big words on the back cover and was completely drawn in by the, "Mom went on vacation, and all I got was this lousy girl." The description on the back sounded just as interesting and quirky as that phrase, so after just a little convincing by my girlfriend, we picked it up. I'm so glad we did. The animation is enticing, it is outrageously funny, and it will be an anime you will want to watch again and again! I just hope more episodes will be turned into anime!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique and Interesting Shojo OVA
Tatoon Master, follows the exploits of a young female tribal warrior (Nima) who goes to Japan to find a boy (Hibio) she saw in a picture. Once she comes in contact with him, she finds that he doesn't like girls, in fact he wants nothing to do with them, but instead of leaving she decides to hang around for awhile... Just long enough for trouble to start brewing when another love-struck female gets thrown into the picture. Its an all out jelousy battle and arrows, that arn't exactly of the cupid make, begin to fly. I highly recommend this 2-episode OVA and would love to see a sequel.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best comedic anime on the market
i think this anime was very well done it was interesting as well as had that affect that would knock your boots off from laughter.the best part were the characters becuase they have so many different quirks about them that just made them amazingly interesting and funny. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars They're finally releasing all of the dubbed version...
The back of the box (in the editorial review) covers most of it. This tape shows 4 episodes from the first season of the north american dub for Sailor Moon. It includes "Computer School Blues" where Sailor Mercury is introduced, and "An Uncharmed life" where Sailor Mars is introduced. I wouldn't call the season these episodes are from the best season- but the tape is a good buy for collectors, or any moonies that don't already own some form of first season dub.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing tape!
This is a MUST for all Sailor Moon fans(Moonies) and even those who are just discovering Sailor Moon. It contains four episodes, including Computer School Blues (Sailor Mercury Joins), Time Bomb, An Uncharmed Life(Sailor Mars), and Nightmare in Dreamland. Once again, it is a MUST for Moonies and non-Moonies alike!

1-0 out of 5 stars Mommy can i have the orignal
This tape is not very good. Its all chopped up. All of the good parts are taken out. Why can't DIC leave it UNCUT. The Uncut version is so much better. It makes more sense to . So if you love Sailor Moon buy Sailor Moon season one uncut on DVD.If you go to ebay you can get episodes 1-200.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT EPISODES
SAILOR MOON fans will love this videotape which includes 4 episodes of the cult Anime series.

"Computer School Blues" - Sailor Moon is led to a computer course which she believes is a front for a Negaverse scam. In the midst of all the adventure, computer student Amy is discovered to be Sailor Mercury!

"Time Bomb" - Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury again battle the Negaverse in their latest attempt in draining humans of their energy.

"An Uncharmed Life" - Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury are called to the local temple where busloads of girls keep disappearing. Amidst the excitement, temple-worker Raye is discovered to be Sailor Mars!

"Nightmare in Dreamland" - The Scouts investigate a strange new themepark where people keep disappearing. Sailor Moon does battle with the evil Dream Dolly.

    Highly-recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful! But the dub is probaly horrible
This is my favorite Sailormoon movie and I've seen them all with Japanese subtitles. It is a wonderful story about friendship and love. It starts with a mysterious friend of Mamoru's appearing and then people in Tokyo are attacked by a enery stealing flower. And to top it all off, an astroid with plants on it is headed towards Earth. Could these events be related? My favorite part of this movie is the wonderful battle scene when the Senshi are fighting Fiore and Kisenian. I'm not going to say anything more about that, you'll have to watch it yourself. I absolutly love the song Moon Revenge. It is my favorite song of all Sailormoon, perhaps of all the songs the I've ever heard. I have heard that this song isn't in the dub. Oh my God, what you dubbies are missing! This is the first time I've heard the actual voices of the characters and the wonderful acting that comes with Japanese seiyuu (voice actors/actresses). I had an idea that they were better than the dub voices (anything would be better) but I didn't realize how much better. In conclusion, the story's wonderful, the voices are wonderful, get the sub and not the dub.

4-0 out of 5 stars The brilliant Sailor Senshi debut, Sailor Moon R
I highly reccomend this movie. This movie displays the beautiful past of Mamoru as his childhood friend Fiore becomes jealous of him and Usagi's love. Wanting Mamoru for himself, he joines the Kessian Blossom in her wicked endevor to suck a planet dry and destory it. The movie's downfall's are just that it's too short. This 61 minute feature was soaked up by people in Japan when it was in theatres Fall of 1993. Here's the DVD review:

    Menu's: B+
    Disc Quality: C+
    Audio: B+ (Somewhat staticy)

    Video: B+
    Content: B
Packaging: B- (Mix of dub and sub terms is a no-no)
    Inserts: A-
    Translations: B+
    Extra's: B

The disc quality isn't very good, that's why the audio and video quality aren't very good. The content is a B because the menu's arent taht good, and the actual video is mpstly all you get, minus a Pioneer (Geneon) interactive menu where you can see upcoming titles. The menuing isn't very good, it's too basic. Although, I wish they could have digitally remastered this movie. It would bring up the grade a lot. Also the translations... most of the time they were accurate, but sometimes most lines are very off. (Examples coming soon).
MPAA: Edited version is TV-Y7, Uncut TV-14
My rating: 12+ (some frames of nudity and violence)
Geneon rating: 13+ for Mild violence and sexuallity, scary moments

5-0 out of 5 stars It's not for 13 year olds to me.
I bought this movie 3 years ago. It was great and filled with lots of flowers. The Kisenian Blossom was beautiful, but evil. Fiore was trying to take Mamorou from Usagi by putting flowers in a huge asteroid. Usagi looked cute as a child. This movie came out in Japan in 1993. The song in this movie is "Moon Revenge" preformed by the Japanese cast of the Sailor Senshi. The song is in Japanese.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best sailor moon movie out there
Anyone who says that this movie isnt better than the subbed needs to realize what there reviewing for. It's Sailor Moon R - The Movie DVD. Which means that you have both the japanese and english language. This movie is about dariens old friend Fiore. He comes back to earth in order to fulfill his promise of giving darian flowers. Unfortunaly, the flower he finds takes control of him and uses him for world domination using flower pods. This is the best sailor moon movie out because it has the best story out of them all. A must have for all sailor moon fans.

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Romantic!
This movie is so romantic. It is one of the most romantic films
I have ever seen! I still cannot belive Darien's friend Fiore
is the villain. When I first saw this I thought Fiore would
be a great friend to Darien. (...) Her new voice is so annoying! But the rest of this movie
is great though. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best anime
This volume has very important, romantic and lovely episodes. While it is different from the Japanese version, it brings back memories from your childhood.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Red Hearts and Silver Crystals"
SAILOR MOON fans will love this great videotape which includes 4 episodes of the cult Anime series.

"Molly's Folly" - Molly's infatuation with Maxfield Stanton almosts ends in her death.

"A Friend in Wolf's Clothing" - Neflyte risks his life to save Molly as their friendship blossoms into love.

    Highly-recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Errrrr....It's kinda strange...
Pokemon is NOT one of the best movies ever created. It's also not the best animation, either. First off, it doesn't make any sense. The characters say that "fighting is a lot different than battling. Sure, you try to win but you don't try to beat each other." Uhhhh...okay, that didn't make a thread of sense...
Next: ANIMATION. The characters move jerky and they always seem to have a huge drop of water on their forehead. Not the greatest.
The wacko hairstyles of some of the characters are always worth a laugh. One guy's hair looked like a hairsprayed pine cone that was dyed banana yellow. Another guy looked like he had a hairy brown pancake on his head.
Pokemon is good for little kids, but if you just want to watch a dorky movie, get this.

3-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable series but too expensive
Pokémon is the story about Ash Ketchum and his friends, Misty Williams and Brock Harrison. Ash's goal is to become a Pokémon Master. Misty's goal is to be "the best at everything" but, more specifically, a Water Pokémon Master. Brock's goal is to be the world's best Pokémon breeder. Pokémon are the animals that inhabit their world. They come in many different species (mouse, cat, dog, etc.) and types (electric, grass, water, fire, etc.). Each Pokémon trainer trains his or her Pokémon to battle other Pokémon and win badges to compete in Pokémon Leagues. Ash, Misty, and Brock must deal with Jessie, James, and Meowth of the evil Team Rocket, who want to steal Ash's first Pokémon, Pikachu, and usually other Pokémon as well. This Japanese animation series is an advertisement for the Pokémon video games, and the episodes' plots are usually simple, but this is actually an enjoyable series. Common themes are friendship, not giving up, parting ways with a dear friend, and other good morals. Parents and guardians that are concerned about the violence need not worry. Yes, the kids have their pets fight each other, but they also must learn to take care of and love their pets. Girls will find a strong female role model in Misty. Overall, this is a fun, simple, warm-hearted, rather repetitive series. However, despite how much I like the anime, the DVDs are not worth your money. Each episode is probably less than twenty minutes long, and there are only three episodes on each DVD. You would be paying the price of this DVD for around one hour of Pokémon. That's ridiculous. They don't even include the Japanese vocal tracks with English subtitles or the fun music videos from the TV airings. You can rent these same English-dubbed episodes on VHS. If you really want this series on DVD, my advice to you is to buy the movies and the special, "Mewtwo Returns", and wait for box sets of the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pikachu loves ketchup!
The episode "Showdown in Dark City" is great! Pikachu really likes his bottle of ketchup! It's one of the cutest things I've ever seen! I'll buy this tape just so that I can see Pikachu and the ketchup!
The other episodes are good(eevee is really cute, too!), but the ketchup is the deciding factor for me!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best cahpters of Pokemon
The Snorlax cartoon it's quite very funny, the first chapter, and the last one are not quite as entertaining as this one.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Snorlax...'nuff said.
How could anyone question the greatness of this video? Snorlax -- this guy was simply born to be a star. In his first major role, he explodes onto the Pokemon scene with an Oscar-worthy performance. Never has anyone captured the art of napping so beautifully, so evocatively as this large fellow. Snorlax possesses a keen understanding of the concept of laziness that is rivaled by none. His eyes closed, his face displaying an eternally peaceful expression -- I was moved like never before.

The greatness of Snorlax is one that can not be explained in a mere paragraph, so I will say only this: Watching this video once is not enough. You and your family will want to relive the experience of sleeping with your friend Snorlax time and time again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Go Misty
Finnally 2 whole shows about Misty. As you may know Misty is one of the main charecters. She sometimes is sort of mean but shes 100 times better than Team Rocket.
    Our hero Meowth is OK.
I rate the ones about Misty 100000000000000000000000000 out of 10. I rate our hero Meowth 5 out of 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars Princess Vs Princess -- The Purr-fect Hero -- Misty Mermaid
"Princess Vs Princess" is a good episode for Misty and Jessie. I assume this Princess Festival thing is a Japanese holiday that we don't get in America. For a historical note, this is when Jessie catches Lickitung. Anyway, it seems the deciding factor in the princess contest is a Pokemon battle, for which Jessie has borrowed Weezing and Misty has borrowed Vulpix (always cute) and some of Ash's Pokemon. Surprise, surprise, Jessie does not win, though she would have if Psyduck were more obedient. Anyway, good episode for Misty or Team Rocket fans. I don't know what it has to do with Meowth specifically except that he is briefly in the battle and reminds Jessie that she still has Lickitung after the rest get defeated. "The Purr-fect Hero" -- One of Meowth's episodes, although it doesn't focus on him as completely as "Go West Young Meowth" does. It's another Japanese holiday, which we are calling "Kids' Day." I like cats, so it was nice to have an episode featuring another Meowth that acts more catlike. Team Rocket's disguise for this episode is magicians, with James as the lovely assistant. An above average episode in my opinion. "The Misty Mermaid" -- Good if you like Misty and her sisters, I guess. James's, uh, costume, uh... this is not my favorite episode. But if you don't mind James wearing pink frilly stuff (at least he complains about it a little), well then... I really don't see what this episode has to do with Meowth. One thing I like about this episode is that Arbok is really, really formidable. IN the water, the water Pokemon's element, it is winning (!) against about seven water Pokemon at once (!) until the lousy Seel goes and evolves and Arbok finally loses. Go Arbok! So, Lickitung was great in the Princess festival episode, and Arbok is great in the mermaid episode. Jessie has really great Pokemon.

The eager fan of Pokemon or those curious of the phenomenon will want to get their hands on this first video. This volume includes three TV episodes "Pokémon, I Choose You!," "Pokémon Emergency!" and "Ash Catches a Pokémon," this DVD is guaranteed to please anyone who's caught up in the Pokémon phenomenon. In the Pokémon world, 10-year-olds acquire their Pokémon training license and begin their quest to catch, train, and fight these adorable creatures--all 151 of them! Our enthusiastic hero, Ash Ketchum, is determined and intensely eager to become the best Pokémon trainer in the world! Ash's closest Pokémon is the lovable Pikachu, who helps Ash fight other Pokémons and accompanies him on his quest. In these three episodes Ash meets Misty, his future traveling companion and friend, and the two of them combat Team Rocket, who will always be their arch enemy. This video includes the full-length "Pokérap," in which all 150 Pokémons are described. Followed by The Mystery of Mount Moon. --Samantha Allen Storey

Pokémons, the little high-tech toys, and the Nintendo game involving them, emerged as a pop-culture phenomenon in 1998: the TV show aired six times a week, a theatrical feature was released in 1999, and Pokémon Web sites popped up all over the Internet. These episodes of the TV series center on Ash Ketchum, an adolescent boy who aspires to become a champion Pokémon trainer. He sets out for his first tournament, accompanied by his sometimes friend, a girl named Misty, and his special pet Pokémon, Pikachu. Along the way, he defeats another boy, Samurai, in a duel and makes a valuable new friend when he challenges Brock, the local champion, while learning lessons about friendship, perseverance, and honorable play. On Moon Mountain, he discovers a fallen meteor with magical powers over the excessively cute Clefaries.Jessie and James, the Team Rocket, attempt to steal the Moon Stone, but are defeated by Ash, Misty, and Brock in a slapstick battle.Adults may have trouble keeping track of the different Pokémons without the help of a child, but the "Full-Length Pokérap" at the end of the disc lists them, an obvious attempt to stimulate the urge to collect all 150 (plus one rare collector's Pokémon coveted by fans). --Charles Solomon

Ash Ketchum continues to work toward his goal of becoming a champion Pokémon trainer as he challenges a trio of synchronized swimmers in "Cerulean City"; A.J., a stern trainer, in "League"; and the conceited champion of a posh prep school in "Hard Knocks." Assisted by Misty and his friend Brock, Ash also overcomes the inept villains of Team Rocket and learns lessons about modesty, honesty, and sportsmanship.Although Ash initially feels that A.J. drives his Pokémons too hard in "League," he discovers how deeply he cares for them when Team Rocket tries to kidnap Sandshrew, his favorite. In "Hard Knocks," Ash defends a smaller boy from bullying upper classmen, and shows the snobbish students that training Pokémons isn't an academic exercise, but a way of life based on friendship and mutual affection.Viewers not caught up in the Pokémon craze may find the idea of fighting high-tech duels with these cute little animals incongruous. But millions of kids in America and Japan embraced it, and they've given the Pokémons a higher profile than such earlier product-characters as My Little Pony, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and Herself the Elf. --Charles Solomon ... This is SOOO good. You get a wonderful deal for such great things. Any Pokémon fan would LOVE it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never too old for cartoons!
I may be considered too old (20) for kids TV, but hey, I say I'm in touch with my inner child. Ever since transformers, the cartoon world has been waiting for something to match it. At last Pokemon arrived! Its screenings on ITV (UK) got me and my housemates out of bed and into the living room at 9:30 every Saurday morning. This set is the perfect way to begin your Pokemon collection, chronicling the beginning of the adventures. I have to say I'm not such a fan of graphic novels, but the videos and the swanky case make this well worth the money. So go on; discover your inner child and take this ideal first step towards catching 'em all!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good buy for the Pokemon crazed kid!
The movies are the same as the ones you buy single but they are in a really cute case and come with a comic book also. I thought 3 movies in the case w/comic book for thirty dollars was a good buy! My daughter and friends have enjoyed the movies, I figure Holiday Special can go for summer vacation too! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of anime TV; Pokemon is Fantastic!
This video, which includes the first 3 episodes of the popular cartoon of the same name, introduces the viewer to the adorable and entertaining world of Pokemon. Pokemon, short for "Pocket Monsters," is the name of one of the biggest videogame and Japanese Pop-Culture franchises I have ever seen. The games (there are currently about a dozen in Japan, with more planned to come soon. Not too bad, considering the relative newness of the franchise; a little over to years) are a run-away hit in every part of the world, and this video does the series justice in it's own right. (In other words, this series could easily stand on it's own, but I am sure that the popularity of the games did help in introducing it to American viewers) The main character, named Ash, begins his journey to become the world greatest Pokemon Master of all time in this video, something that will take him a lot of hard work and dedication, considering that there are at least 150 Pokemons out there for him to catch, and more then a few rival trainers he will need to do battle with. Each episode follows his journeys, and this first volume of 3 tells the tale of how he meets and makes friends with the games official mascot, Pokemon #25, the electric mouse named Pikachu. Ash discovers something is ransacking his home of electric circuts and wires, and when he discovers the culpret is non-other then this cute little critter, he can't help but fall in love. The two begin in this episode what is actually a heartwarming story of a boy and the creature he has taken as his buddy. each episode includes a new Pokemon for the audience to become familiar with, and the show is filled to the brim with information that comes directly from the highest authority on the subject of Pokemon, the game itself. Overall a wonderful buy, and each volume comes with neat little things like comics and trading cards. the firstepisode also includes a coupon for the purchase of the game, because you WILL want this game after yo fall head over heels for Pikachu, not to mention his adorable voice (All the Pokemons can speak, but only in phrases that are made up of their actual names. In other words "Pika-Pika," and "Pika-Chu?" will be commonplace in this series). So what are you waiting for, go get it; After all, a Squillion Japanese kids can't be wrong...

5-0 out of 5 stars The first three episodes of Nintendo's new TV series!
"POKEMON I CHOOSE YOU!"-Ash oversleeps on the night of his birthday and his rival Gary gets a Pokemon (stinker Gary is, nya!). Ash eventually meets a reluctant Pikachu. The journey through Route 1 isn't good, as some wild Spearows attack them.

"POKEMON EMERGENCY"-Ash manages to get Pikachu to Viridian City (via Misty's bike last eps.) and the first Pokemon Center (via Officer Jenny's motorcycle) when Meowth, Jessie, and James (not in the game) distract him to steal the Pokemon there.

"ASH CATCHES A POKEMON"-Ash, Pikachu, and Misty are marooned in the Viridian Forest, where Ash captures a Caterpie, and a Pidgeotto. Now you don't expect Team Rocket to give up easily, and their first battle begins.

3-0 out of 5 stars A cool game series spawns a disappointing anime...
    INTRODUCTION:
In the nineties in Japan, the Pokemon game series was created. This series became an instant success overnight, and it's no surprise that Nintendo wanted to try their luck with the series in America. In late 1998, Nintendo ported the video games to America, as well as the animated series based on it (in America, the animated series actually arrived BEFORE the games, believe it or not!) Read on for my review of this, a DVD containing the first three episodes of the Pokemon series.

    BASIC PLOT:
The basic plot of the Pokemon animated series is simple. Ash, a new Pokemon trainer, wants to become the best Pokemon collector/battler in the world. The series follows him as he finds new Pokemon, new allies, and enemies alike. On his journey he is joined by Misty, who tags along since Ash destroyed her bike, and Brock, who wants to be a Pokemon breeder. As the three travel, they frequently battle members of Team Rocket - an organization that wants to capture rare and valuable Pokemon. Most episodes of the series follow the same basic plot.

    SERIES OPINIONS:
Although an amazing series of Game Boy RPGs inspired this game, the series is subpar. Every episode is pretty much the same. The crew is traveling, Team Rocket appears and says their same lines in every episode, the good guys and bad guys battle, and the good guys always cause an explosion that sends Team Rocket flying away. Also, the characters are paper thin. Most of them appear in one episode and never again. Even the main characters are pretty one-dimensional. Also, the dub gives the series too much of an "Americanized" feel. To make things worse, in America, the TV series featured Pokemon that weren't yet in any American Pokemon game, which led to hundreds of in-game rumors. The TV series also makes up several locations that aren't in the games - another big mistake. Take my advice - steer clear of this series - just play the Game Boy games instead.

    DVD:
THE DVD HAS NO JAPANESE LANGUAGE TRACK!? When you do anime DVDs, it is an unwritten rule that you include both a sub and a dub, and this DVD violates that unwritten rule. Likewise, the extras are severely lacking - the Pokerap is just plain stupid. And let's not forget that DVDs cost more than VHS tapes. Take my advice - just tape these episodes off your local channel that shows the series if you want to see them that bad.

    OVERALL:
Overall this was a good idea for an animated series, but it just falls flat when compared to all the other animes out there. If you want good animes that have characters that aren't paper thin, check out Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, or Gundam Wing. If you want Pokemon, just stick with the games.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great start to a great series
As the first set of Pokemon episodes on video, these don't have the biggest plot ever conceived. It is, however, an essential opening to the series. The DVD last a little over an hour, and contains three episodes:

Pokemon, I Choose You! - In the first episode of Pokemon, you are introduced to Ash Ketchum, who, now at the age of 10, is allowed to start his Pokemon adventure. But when he arrives at Professor Oak's house to late, he receives a Pokemon, Pikachu, who is less than willing to help him.

Pokemon Emergency! - Pikachu, who was severely hurt by a flock of Spearow, needs to get to the Pokemon Center in Viridian City as soon as possible! Once they get there, they find that Team Rocket is planning to steal all the Pokemon!

Ash Catches a Pokemon - Ash and Pikachu, along with a new friend, Misty, the group heads into Viridian Forest, where Ash catches his first Pokemon! But Team Rocket is now set on capturing Pikachu. Can Ash and Pikachu defeat Team Rocket?

The quality of the video is very good, and the audio just as impressive as it was during the original broadcast. As a bonus, the DVD also includes the full Pokerap at the end, with all the Pokemon. Followed by "The Mystery of Mount Moon".

4-0 out of 5 stars best kids movie!!! EVER!!!!
it was the best! it inspired me to go out and become the best pokemon leader ever! i am still only my journey to find team rocket! ... Read more

This video features three more episodes from the popular Pokémon TV series. In "So Near, Yet So Farfetch'd," the bird Pokémon of the title is elusive prey for Brock, Misty, and Ash. But the mysterious master of this Pokémon is even more of a puzzler. Fans will be surprised by who saves the day. In the second segment, the egg Brock has carried since a previous episode finally hatches and the first of the new Pokémon is born, a cutie pie named Togepi. This starts a grand match to find out who will carry the new Pokémon, including Team Rocket. When Bulbasaur looks to evolve, there's more than meets the eye in "The Mysterious Garden." Along the way in this trio of adventures, an upgraded Pokédex is delivered and Team Rocket wins the day. OK, just kidding about the last part--Team Rocket will always fail in its inevitable way. 5-0 out of 5 stars Voting on Behalf of Preschoolers
The preschoolers I work with are in just love with Togepi. They squeak just like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another excellent episode of Pokemon.
Here is my third favorite episode of Pokemon, and my favorite video, my favorite episode is "Wake up Snorlax", the second is "The Slowpoke evoulution", and this one about Togepi, I also loved it, Togepi replaces Pikachu and Mew, as the cutest of all pokemon, I have a baby sister, named Estefania and I put it of nickname Togepi, because she is very really cute.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent!!
Totally Togepi is good. Togepi is ssssssssoooooooo cute! I love it's cute little face and I love the way it says 'Togi! Togi! Breee!' I wish that I had my very own Togepi, but I guess that the only way to have my own Togepi is the capture one on the Pokemon Gold/Silver games.

3-0 out of 5 stars What do you mean, super power of Togepi?
And what do you mean, gotta catch 'em all, anyway? This video is about a 175th Pokémon named Togepi. He (she? ) acts the same way most of the other Pokémon do: say their own names (but not Meowth, Gastly, and Mewtwo).

Anyway, I've heard about "The Power of One," the sequel to "Mewtwo Strikes Back," and that it will hit America in August. Two more are on the way, too! Oh, no...that means there could be 500 Pokébrats in a couple of years from now.

What do I care, though? I'm glad that soon this Pokémon craze will be over and done once and for all. ... Read more
