Richard Simmons is the king of motivational exercise, especially if you're a beginner. This video workout is a dance party simulating a class reunion, with an energizing live band playing lively hits from the '50s and '60s, such as "It's My Party and I'll Cry If I Want To," "Great Balls of Fire," and "Dancing in the Streets." The singers and musicians sometimes come offstage and dance with the exercisers, adding to the energy and festivity. The choreography is very simple, low impact, light intensity, and appropriate for beginners and overweight exercisers. (You may not get your heart rate up if you're very fit, although you'll enjoy the music.) Richard doesn't do much in the way of cueing--he assumes you'll just follow along. His onscreen class has women and men of all body shapes and sizes, and everyone is having a blast. You will, too. At the end, the exercisers dance down the floor and the screen flashes how many pounds they've lost--several have lost more than 100 pounds. (22 minutes of aerobics, total 43 minutes with warm-up, cool down, and stretch.) --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for beginners
This was the first Richard Simmons tape I ever used. I agree with others who note his instruction is not always clear and specific; the first time I used the tape that was a bit disconcerting. Then I realized that one of my exercise goals was to relieve stress and this was not something to stress about. Richard and the people who join him are clearly having so much fun -- it's contagious. The great thing is you get to do this workout in the privacy of your home and it doesn't matter if you master every move.

I like that the participants who join Richard in this, and all of his videos, really represent humanity. They are different sizes, shapes, and ethnic backgrounds. Some are clearly more coordinated than others BUT all are enjoying themselves. I particularly find the closing of each tape motivational, when participants come forward doing their own steps and their names and the # of pounds they have lost is displayed.

This is the easiest of Richard's tapes and a good place to begin if you haven't previously done much exercise.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good... but a little disappointed!
I don't consider myself in the greatest of shape... to be quite honest, I'm quite overweight. I haven't been in the habit of exercising regularly, so I thought a little bit of good ol' Richard would do the trick

We (my college roomie and I) started with Sweatin' to the Oldies 3 and LOVED it! We do that one all the time! After finding the first STTO tape somewhere, we decided to give it a try. While it was fun, we really didn't feel like we got much of a workout. The songs are shorter and the moves more repetitive... I'm hoping the STTO 2 tape is better. :-/

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Results And A lot Of Fun
I first ordered and used this tape in the early 90's and lost about 20 lbs. in about 6 weeks. I trimmed down all over and felt great. I think this is the greatest exercise tape ever, a lot of fun and I never seem to get bored with it. Highly recommended. Add a few sit-ups at the end and you will see great results while having fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Richard Simmons, Not Just for the Obese
Lets face it, even if you aren't overweight you love Richard Simmons. If you deny it, I know you're lying, you know you're lying and everyone else knows it too. This is a fabulous tape, the exercises are simple and fun and Richard is hilarious and enthusiastic. My friends and I (all in high school) have Richard Simmons nights once a month to bond with eachother. Its a great activity for teenage girls everywhere.

Billed as the "future of fitness" and hawked by numerous celebrities, Billy Blanks's Tae-Bo actually deserves much of the hype it's receiving. A mixture of boxing punches and martial arts kicks, Tae-Bo is fun and easy. One of the best elements of this two-tape set is that the first tape (which is 40 minutes long), Tae-Bo: Instructional, lays out the movements you need to successfully complete a workout. Once you've mastered the steps, you won't have to fast-forward through half the tape to get to the workout, nor will your workout be slowed down by the repeated lessons. After you feel comfortable with the movements (and they're really quite easy to follow; nothing too complicated to trip you up), you're ready to move on to Tae-Bo: Basics, a 27-minute workout (5 minutes of warm-up, 18 minutes of Tae-Bo, and 4 minutes of cool-down) that will have your heart pounding and your body sweating. The only downside to this tape is the less-than-exciting music. Blanks, a seven-time World Martial Arts champion, is a superb instructor, providing encouragement and careful instruction (if you don't know by the end of the tape to hold in your stomach, that's no one's fault but your own). Not only is Tae-Bo great exercise for all levels, but the punches and kicks are wonderful for working out stress and aggression. This is the aerobics exercise video for people who are bored by aerobics. --Jenny Brown ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific workout, but a little outdated...
I must say that I love Billy Blanks and his whole program! I bought these tapes and they sat in the shrinkwrap for a year while I was pregnant and on bed rest. Two months after delivering, I pulled them out and popped them into the VCR...WOW! I have done just about every exercise video out there, Jane Fonda, Susan Powter, Reebok, you name it and I have probably tried it. Taebo is terrific, and these tapes were a good introduction to taebo. I used them for 3 weeks to help me get back into the exercise groove. However, I really feel like they do not fully represent the taebo technique. I learned a lot more about correct form when I purchased the "Live" tapes and then started doing taebo tv through my dish. I wouldn't recommend that you buy these particular tapes, but I give taebo and Billy Blanks 5 stars. I have lost 10 pounds and 4 inches since beginning in February. Billy Blanks inspires me to reach within myself and put all my spirit and focus into my workouts. Please, please, do an instructional video first before trying to do the regular workout. If you pay attention and listen to what Billy says, this will keep you from hurting yourself. I have a bad knee that precludes me from doing step aerobics or Jazzercise, but I have never had any trouble with taebo. I am sold on this workout folks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a Beginner
I bought my tapes from the TV ad, which include the Instructional, Basic, Advanced and 8-Minute workouts. I was a real couch potato looking for motivation. Billy pulled me right off the couch and onto my feet. It took me months just to get through the basic workout without wheezing. The set offered here are the instructional and basic. They're great for someone like me who exercised rarely or never because the pace allows you to advance your fitness level as you are able. I read some of the other reviews that think the workout isn't long enough or fast paced enough. They would be more satisfied with the Advanced, 57 minute workout. The Advanced video's toned athletes are sweating buckets and sometimes can't keep up! Unfortunately, it does not seem to be avaiable separately yet. However, if you need a slow buildup and a great motivator, Billy is your guy! By the way, I've progressed after four months to the advanced tape and I feel great!

5-0 out of 5 stars quick
received my order quickly and in great condition. THANKS

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable
I'm still in shock about my results from this video. Over a period of 4 months I just about killed myself, but came out on top. The amusing thing is that I didn't really lose any weight (I think I traded fat for muscle) but I went from a size 14 to a size 8 (ladies, all of you know how huge that is). These tapes are gratifying and an incredible workout. That 30 minutes of Tae Bo really shows you what you're made of. Billy Blanks is an excellent instructor and, after a little practice, the moves are not at all complicated. I highly recommend this tape.

5-0 out of 5 stars Something Different
I wanted a different way to do cardio instead of the standard aerobics. This video is not alot of jumping around but using other methods to get your heart rate up like kicking your legs and punching which really works up a sweat! Personally, I don't like alot of jumping in my exercise which is why it works for me and will probably work for you! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard, but fun
I hadn't realized how out of shape I was until I followed along with this video. At first, there were many exercises I simply couldn't complete, but I made sure to keep moving, and stick with it till the end. The 52 minutes go by quickly.

The best part about this video is that the exercises are easy to figure out. I normally hate aerobics, but the aerobic warm up here is simple and gets the heart pumping right away.

Greg Smithey is friendly and encouraging. I like the ordinary-looking people behind him who are able to keep up without grimacing in pain; that gave me hope for myself. You WILL feel the burn while doing these exercises, but just keep trying and do the best YOU can. They will eventually get easier, and you'll like the results.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works
Buns of steel by Greg Smithey is just wonderful. I have worked out my whole life at home trying every video that came out starting with Jane Fonda videos and nothing gave me the results this tape did. While working with the video, Greg gives funny and encouraging comments that really put a smile on my face and made me want to keep going. It is really hard when you first start out if you are not in shape, but just do a little bit of each exercise and add more each time you do it and you will get where you want to be. It is my absolute favorite! It starts out with a short arobic workout to warm up your muscles that also works on your arms. It then you go into the entire leg and [back] workout. You will feel it in every muscle. Greg is very thorough. It finishes with a stomach and cool down stretch. It is just perfect and very enjoyable due to Greg's humor. Just try it, you will love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent total body workout- you WILL get results!
This is a really old video, but the only thing I feel is lacking is that it is not available on DVD. Hopefully it will be sometime- I have tried other videos but this one is simply the best. First of all, this is a tough workout. You will be sore until you get used to it! The beginning aerobic workout gets your heart rate up and is over before you know it- then you are lying on the floor working outer thighs, inner thighs, buns, and then a short abs segment.

It's hard to do the entire tape at first. Do what you can and each time you use the tape you will be able to do a few more repetitions. Be sure to listen to the instructor and use proper form. I jog and use this tape along with Denise Austin's Super Stomach and have seen REALLY great results (both tapes are old!). I firmed up, lost my extra pounds, and got rid of cellulite. I had to work at it and it wasn't easy, but I did this tape 3-4 times a week consistently and obtained a smaller firmer [posterior] and firm, lean thighs. I highly recommend this tape! I never get bored with it and have owned it for about 10 years now.

Don't let its cheesiness fool you- this is a very effective and fun tape. If you really want to get in shape, you can, and I will just repeat that I had very good results from couch potato to fit, using Buns of Steel, Denise Austin's Super Stomach, and walking/jogging. I do Buns of Steel 3-4 times a week, walk daily, jog a mile daily, and Super Stomachs daily. I have many other fitness videos but this is my favorite, easiest to maintain, and most-results-getting routine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buns of Concrete
I purchased this video a from Amazon and I Love it!! It is a tad bit old, but the results are what really count. You really feel a burn when you do these exercises and its very low impact.

I recommend this VHS for people who are pear-shaped like me and need to really tone the lower half of your body.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
I've joined all the clubs and tried all tapes. I have gone down to a size 6 from a size 10 since starting this tape (and cutting down carbs) about four weeks ago. He's goofy, but knows what he's doing and targets those hard to target areas perfectly. I'm very happy and I highly recommend this tape! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelieveable, amazing results!
First of all, I hate exercise....can't stick to anything and be consistent! About 10 years ago, my Mom introduced me to Callanetics. I remembered getting amazing results from it, and decided to try it yet again. These exercises are quite difficult at first, but the results are incredible and the key word is FAST! You SEE the results much quicker than any exercise or weightlifting. In 5 sessions, my stomach was much flatter, thighs tighter, and I could see muscles in my upper arms that I never knew were there. My husband even commented on how great I looked, and I felt that way too! I began Callanetics to get in shape for a wedding in Las Vegas...I see the pictures of myself and can't believe it's me! My body is so much fitter and tighter than it's ever been. I no longer need the tape as I have basically memorized it, but use it now and then. I highly recommend this for smaller framed people (I'm 5 ft). It lengthens your muscles and tones without making you bulky. It also makes us appear taller and leaner. The accompanying book is a great way to review the whole program and the before and after pictures are amazing....a must-see for beginners, if those pictures don't get you motivated, nothing will! I love Callan and thank her so much for Callanetics, an exercise I can stick with for life!

    5-0 out of 5 stars Began @ 14
My mom first turned me on to this video when I was 14. I read the box cover to her and exclaimed "10 years younger in 10 hours, I'll look 4". But seriously I've found that after high school I worked and went to school full time so there was no time for exercising. Three years later I looked at my backside in the mirror and gasped. It had to go. I couldn't fit into my winter jeans or summer shorts. My womanly hips had appeared and I had donuts and pastry dimples. Remembering this wonderful video I have begun a workout schedule of biking and outdoor climbing once a week with Callanetics 3 times a week and already after three weeks I can see such a difference that I know I'm only hours away from my goal.
I've heard people say it's too hard and that they don't see results. 1)They need to keep trying. It takes a while to understand what it means to "round" or relax certain muscles to get the best stretch. 2)People that jerk or get frustrated have to understand that they are being too impatient and should do fewer reps and the less difficult version to build up to the point were they don't jerk. Thank you Callan Pinckney for this video. By the way there is no substitute for this workout. I've tried others and none have worked as quickly for me.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by the dated look of this great workout!
Your first impression of this video will probably be that it looks out-of-date: the set, clothes, and even instructor Callan herself all scream 1980s. If you can get past that, however, you will find that this tape still offers a great workout for today's exercisers. Callan's method can be compared to traditional ballet barre work, Pilates, Lotte Berk, and even yoga, and in fact it borrows a little from each of these areas. The focus is on very small movements--often just 1-2 inches--combined with a high number of repetitions--sometimes up to 100.

Callan begins the workout with standing stretches, with the first one looking a little like yoga's sun salutations. Also included in this section area side stretches and an arm stretch that you will definitely feel in your triceps for days afterward. Next, Callan moves to the floor for several exercises for the "stomach"--what's now more commonly referred to as abs work. These exercises are very similar to Pilates, with the first and last in particular being almost exactly like "The Hundred," a traditional first Pilates exercise. Unlike in Pilates, however, Callan instructs her students NOT to pull in their stomachs, which goes against the emphasis in Pilates to keep a firm midsection. These exercises are also quite strenuous on the neck, but at the end of the tape, there is a note that the hands can be kept behind the head if needed to support the neck.

Following this, it's back to standing exercises using a ballet barre. A sturdy, high-backed chair can be substituted here (which is what I used), but Callan also shows how even a low piece of furniture would work. This series includes stretches for the legs and hips and then further standing work for the thighs and buttocks. Following this, Callan returns to the floor, and (still using the bar), does several additional moves for the hips and buttocks. The workout ends with several forward-bend type stretches as well as a few more strenuous moves for the pelvis.

Callan is a supportive teacher who is constantly instructing you to only do what you can without pushing your body too much. She gently corrects her students on the proper form while also offering motivating comments about their progress. This classic program offers a nice change from today's exercise videos; at the end of the workout, you will likely feel long, lithe, and very proud of yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Only One that REALLY works!
There are many reviews already on the details of what this tape is all about, so I won't repeat what they've already said, BUT what IS worth repeating is how amazing these exercises really are! Yes, they can be difficult at first,(especially those pelvic rotations!) but they do become easier after the first few times and best of all, they really work. You will actually see a difference in your figure after the first few hours. I have gone from a tight size 14 to a loose/baggy size 12 in just 9 weeks. Best of all,I feel much better, my posture is better and I have less tension in my neck and shoulders. (I sit at a desk/computer a good part of my day).
If there is one thing I wish there were more emphasis on it would be the stomach exercises. I would like to have had more of them, but I have been using this tape on and off since it first came out in the 80's and I can tell you from experience that if you learn how to do the moves correctly and don't force yourself to do more than your body is able to do, you WILL have a very strong, lean, tight body. I look forward to having mine back again and I feel that I'm well on my way.
This tape is absolutely worth the time and money that you will spend and best of all, IT REALLY WORKS!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This is for any level because she suggests you go at your own pace. You'll be sore a day or two after. I just bought this tape and love it already. ... Read more

This multilevel class is safe for and accessible to beginners, and just right for intermediates. Three of Fonda's able and motivating instructors teach the 45-minute step class. Half the room does lower-intensity moves; the other uses higher steps and higher-intensity techniques. The teaching technique is excellent: a pattern is taught on the floor before taking it up on the step. One participant does the routines totally without the step to guide beginners or others who don't feel comfortable using the step. The patterns never get very complex, but they are varied enough to keep you interested and energized, and you can adjust your step height to make the workout harder if you wish. The instructors cue seamlessly. Fonda herself teaches the 10-minute abdominal segment, with enough variations of the standard crunch to keep your abs contracting and your mind engaged. --Joan Price ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars GOOD Step Workout GREAT Ab Workout!
This workout video is divided into two parts. First there is
    a 45-minute step aerobic section which includes a warm-up,
several different step combination featuring a rotation of
three instructors, a cool-down, and a short lower body stretching
segment. The second part is a ten-minute ab workout hosted by
Jane Fonda herself. The step workout is not difficult, in fact
it may be aimed more for beginners as the instructors often ask
the viewer to pay attention to their breathing and lessen their
movements if need be. I consider myself at a strong intermediate
level and work out with step videos 4-7 days a week. When adding
my own propulsion, I still feel I get a good workout with this
video. I like the rotating instructors (especially the cute guy,
I get tired of only watching women instructors on aerobics tapes).
I feel different instructors bring variety to the workout. The music also
changes with each rotation. Not the most hip music (this is
probably not a tape aimed at the young), but oh well.

The ab workout makes this video well worth seeking out. Fonda
does an excellent job explaining the moves, especially how to
breath during the crunches. I used to be confused on the correct
breathing procedure during abdominal crunches. Often, I would
unconsciously hold my breath. After using this video, I know
the correct breathing plus correct arm placement for all my
    ab workouts!

3-0 out of 5 stars Eventually Fonda shows up in the video!
This 1992 aerobic stair stepping was made before Jane Fonda was challenged to compete with some of the upcoming celebrity workout video exercise gurus. So, it is safe to say that it is made when she was more serious into exercising and not focusing on competition for sales.

The video workout is in two segments, a 45 minute high energy low impact step aerobic geared for all fitness levels as the class of about 15 utilizes either no step bench to varying heights of the step modules. It is advised that you do the step workout and abdominal workout on separate days. Since the second part is only 10 minutes, I encourage incorporating it as a habit after the step workout. The workout isn't difficult, however, you will need to pay attention to fast changing steps because they step off the bench with many movements there also.

I don't prefer the instructors switching constantly, I don't like too many intricate steps, motions, stepping. What I prefer is more consistency with movements, but I guess they have to make it exciting. The music is, as usual in Fonda's tapes, pounding, technobeat consistent sound.

Second portion is where Jane comes in; she uses a step bench to strength and tighten the abdominals, and also includes pelvic curls which work the lower abdominals. Here, focus is only abdominal work. This is where Jane Fonda is at her best. I have followed her doing some fantastic work focusing on the abdominals, but maybe stair stepping isn't her forte.

Not challenging enough for advanced people. MzRizz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video
This is a great step video. It's very easy to follow, the instructors are very upbeat. The cues are given opposite of what they are doing so that you actually follow it and do it the same as them. I find most videos the instructor gives cues for their own left and right and I'm always having to do the opposite to what they say to stay in line with them. I love this workout, it is my favourite of all the step videos I have.
This is an beginner to intermediate video though I wouldn't recommend it for advanced steppers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent
I gave this four stars because it is an easy video to follow, but is not intense enough for an intermediate to advanced exerciser like me. Jane does not actually instruct the video, she has three different people lead you through the aerobic portion of the video. The instructors are pretty good; they are enthusiastic and cue well. However, I barely broke a sweat, but I think this workout is perfect for novices. Jane leads you through the short abdominal section, which was again geared towards novices.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
An easy but effective workout -- I just love this tape and you will see results in no time. My only disappointment is that Jane leads you in the abdominal workout, not the step routine, but otherwise this is very good. ... Read more

The familiar moves from Tae-Bo Instructional and Basic are here, but Blanks has put a little razzmatazz on them, adding slightly more complicated combinations that should be fairly easy to master if you've completed the first two tapes. The new moves--which combine Tae-Bo's patented mix of boxing punches and martial arts kicks--make this video much more exciting, but they also considerably raise the bar on the difficulty factor. In addition to the short warm-up, the cool down, and the 30 minutes of Tae-Bo, Advanced Tae-Bo also includes 18 minutes of muscle-crunching floor work. You know you're in trouble when even the guys in the tape have trouble keeping up. As Blanks says, your "butt should be on fire," and if you need to, "go ahead and scream a little." But, as always, Blanks is a supportive coach, reminding you to go at your own pace (stop for water if necessary), yet encouraging you to push yourself as much as you can. The music is still cheesy, and some of the camera work somewhat confusing (the overhead angle makes the body positioning in the floor work hard to follow). However, this is a terrific workout when you're ready to take Tae-Bo to the next level; just make sure you have truly mastered the first two tapes before attempting Advanced. A 20-minute sneak preview of Tae-Bo Live is included with this video. --Jenny Brown ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good exercise tape, especially for your lower body
I mainly run outside for my workouts, but Tae Bo is great for rainy days when I can't leave the house, or days when I'm lacking motivation to exercise and I think to myself, "I'll just pop this tape in for a little while and do it as long as I feel like." I always end up doing the entire tape! The time goes by so fast during this workout. Billy Blanks doesn't spend too long on any one exercise, so you don't get bored, but you definitely are breathing hard and "feeling the burn." It is especially toning for your legs. Often, after a run, I just fast forward to the latter part of the tape to do the leg toning exercises to round out my workout. I will go through them once, rewind, then do another set. My butt is looking rounder and firmer these days. I recommend this tape for a good sweat and for great tone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic workout!
After my few months of watching the tv ads for Billy Blanks Tae-Bo videos, my husband ordered them for me for a Christmas present. I was ever so thrilled and after going the steps of instructional, basics and then advanced I was hooked. I started to see the big difference in myself. I was losing weight, toning and most of all feeling better about myself. Through Billy Blanks I have finally been able to acheive what I had tried for many years - to gain self discipline, I have never been able to stick to any one exercise regimen for very long. I have the machines and many other videos but I think it's the way Billy Blanks gets me going throughout this advanced video that is what I needed. Oh, I do yell at you Billy when I get down on those floor exercises. But I do push myself to get through them and the results are here to stay. The 8 minute workout is a super "quickie" when my morning is rushed. Thank You!

4-0 out of 5 stars A workout for martial artists
As a martial artist for 5 years, I have high recommendations for this video. The key is to adjust it to your own capabilities. Some of the moves are VERY high impact (for example, the jumping front kick) and will wreck your knees or ankles if you do them repeatedly. In addition, some of the moves are so fast they don't allow you to focus on the muscles you're working out. As long as you take this video at your own pace, it's great!

For self-defense, though, this video isn't worth much. If you're looking for martial arts skills, sign up for a martial arts class. If you like Tae Bo, you'll LOVE martial arts, and you'll learn self defense techniques to boot!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good workout, but really annoying problems
Overall, I'd say this is a good workout. The cardio is intense and you really get the chance to tone your muscles. It's a fast way to work out your entire body. However... the sets are really uneven and proper form is often sacrificed for speed. Billy goes off on "inspirational" tangents while you're left doing multiple extra sets. I've been doing this tape five days a week for the last six months and have actually seen a noticeable difference in the toning on one side of my body! That's how off kilter the sets are. Also, there are several moves where he takes you into "double-time" where you are asked to do the move so quickly, any hope for maintaining proper form flies out the window. Even the people on the tape have poor form during these sets. I usually maintain "single-time." I keep better form, get the same results, and minimize the risk of injury. Even with these problems, I still like Tae Bo and I'm still doing the workout (I've just switched sides so I can even out my muscle tone)! I wouldn't recommend buying this Advanced Workout but maybe the "Live" version is better... I don't know, but it might be worth a try. Hopefully they've worked through some of the kinks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Advanced is an Awesome workout!
This workout is awesome! After the cardio part, which is about 30 minutes, I had an average heart rate of 181!! After the floor exercises (about 25 minutes) my heart rate had an average of 161!! Anyway, this makes me sweat even more than I do when I run and seems to hit all areas of my body--instead of the same areas when I run. Anyway, you won't be disappointed! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's great to walk three miles in your living room!
I have a reasonably large library of exercise videos and must rate this as one of my favorites. The workout is a good one in that I really work up a sweat and can feel the burn, yet it is easy to follow with good cues and steps that aren't too complicated. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't just exercise my legs, but also my arms, waist, and pretty much everywhere else, too. I also like the fact that it is possible to do the exercises with or without weights and can vary the intensity by making bigger or smaller movements. I am an avid walker, but living in New England means that I can't always actually walk outside so being able to get three miles in my living room is a very good thing! The only negative is that Leslie just plain talks too much which I find annoying at times. Fortunately, though, since you don't need every ounce of gray matter to follow the movements, it is easy enough to tune her out on those mornings when I would rather just exercise and not hear Leslie's banter.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love These Tapes and got Great Results!!
Okay, everyone, i've been reading all of the reviews and would like to say something first of all: Leslie is not annoying. shes a lovely instructor and a bit dorky but shes her own unique person and is great when it comes to this workout. i just watch what she does and listen to music. if you have a problem with it then do that too. its very simple. so to all of you complainers: get over it. I've been doing these tapes for 3 weeks and within 2 weeks i lost 8 pounds. may i add that a dedicated diet that suits you is also very effective. i am 16 years old...and i've had a medical problem for 2 years and never thought i'd get rid of weight. since i started these tapes i am motivated to loose and cant wait to reach my goal. (i started at 200 and im 5'6 which is not healthy for my age) now im 192 and it keeps going down and down and everyone i know is saying how fit im looking. it makes me feel great. if you have 30 minutes a day then i suggest that this will work great for you. also if you have a medical problem and need to start slow and everything the 1 mile would be perfect for you for a while but i do 2 miles a day and it is working great so make sure you get this tape if you are interested!!!!!!!!~

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Leslie Sansone Workout
Leslie is the "Queen of In-Home Walking." This is different than walking on a treadmill, but seems equally effective. You can also walk any day of the year, rain or shine, day or night. There are no limits.

Leslie travels all over the world promoting fitness and holds six certificates from the American College of Sports Medicine. She also owns Club Fitness and makes appearances on the QVC Home Shopping Channel.

After trying a few of Leslie Sansone's workouts, this is now my favorite workout.

This Super Fat Burning - 3 Mile workout took me to new places in my fitness level. I really saw some good results in the stomach area. I had to keep looking in the mirror to make sure it was true. This workout firms the upper and lower body, improves coordination and balance and boosts cardio strength. (47 minutes)

Since I'm not the queen of coordination, the Leslie Sansone workouts allow me to exercise without worrying about fancy footwork. If you can stand in one place and move forward, back and put your arms up and down, you can do this! Therefore, this is really for anyone! The use of weights really takes this video to a new level. This workout really does tighten and tone you all over.

I highly recommend this workout or the three workout set with weights. This workout is for anyone starting a new workout program or for anyone who just wants to have a little fun with their workouts. You just become one of the group and Leslie creates a very friendly, accepting environment. I really started to look forward to working out in such a positive environment and enjoy being in the presence of some positive energy, plus it gave me an added boost of "I can do this." The music also just keeps you moving!

If you have a 5' x 7' space anywhere near a TV, these are perfect. You don't need a lot of room like many aerobic videos require.

Leslie's workouts that add a smiley burst of energy to your day. If you are on your couch, you better be looking out for Leslie Sansone cause she is going to "come over and get you" off that couch! At least that is what she says. ;)

I sent my aunt the 1-mile workout and she now says that
she does the workout with my little second cousin who is
now living at her house. So apparently even kids love
    Leslie's workouts. ;)

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite of all 4 of Leslie's workouts (so far!)
Last fall, when I first heard about Leslie's workout tapes, I bought the 3-DVD set of the 1-mile, 2-mile and 4-mile DVDs. I was able to move quickly from the 1-mile to the 2-mile, but going from there to the 4-mile proved much more challenging. I thought I'd try a 3-mile as a middle step until I could easily get through the 4-mile and bought this one earlier this year.

I love it! Things I like alot: 1) there are more people participating in the workout than in my other Sansone DVDs; 2) Leslie has MUCH more interaction with the people in the workout than in my other Sansone DVDs; 3) the set/studio where the DVD is filmed is a hundred times better than those in the other Sansone DVDs I have; 4) the transitions in music/pace are a hundred times better than in the other Sansone DVDs I have; 5) the music, while not hugely inspiring, is good; and 6) while it's a shallow and silly thing, this DVD is MUCH more up-to-date than the others and I don't have to look at terribly outdated workout outfits and hairdos anymore. :)

I have no major dislikes. After watching/listening to the DVD repeatedly over a course of months, there are LITTLE things that bug me like the fact that Leslie so often refers to "the girls" and ignores the fact that there is a man participating (Randy). I noticed that Randy was dressed differently than the girls (their outfits are all in a matching color scheme and by the same company), so I wondered if maybe Randy was a "fill-in" for someone who couldn't make it at the last minute and therefore Leslie was used to it being all girls and kept forgetting he was back there (he was in the back row).

All in all, a WONDERFUL exercise tool!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for those days...
when you don't want to think about it. I alternate this tape with other workouts (elliptical trainer, walking outdoors, biking) and it's a nice variation. The weights give it just enough "umph" and even when I'm unmotivated, I can usually make myself do this tape. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun exercise video--perfect for beginners!
"Sweatin' to the Oldies 2" combines low-impact aerobics (about 30 min.) with toning (about 15 min.) to hit tunes such as, "Locomotion," "Windy," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Respect," "Breakin' Up Is Hard To Do," and "Pretty Woman." Richard Simmons leads the exercise fun with real people of all shapes and sizes. The dance steps are easy after following the routines a few times. I have used this video to improve my overall fitness, including weight loss, and it has worked! I highly recommend this video, as well as the original "Sweatin' to the Oldies 1."

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite workout Video
This right here is the best workout video. I first got into it late in my elementary school years. Ten years later, I still do it a couple times a week. Instead of using bottles as weights as they do in the video, I usually use soup cans. I have problems in my joints, and I cannot do any excersizes that put too much stress on my joints. I love this video because you can do it in your living room in your pajamas. I love it because it is easy to catch on to and I think it is a lot of fun. It is real motivational on those days you just dont want to excersize, but you see how much fun the people are having in the video, singing along, dancing, cheering, counting out the steps....I do it on those days when you just dont want to get out of bed. I do it as a warmup before i go running. I do it when I have too much energy or when I really have nothing better to do. I do it the week of finals when I need a study break but need to keep moving so I dont fall asleep. Basically, I do it all the time. I always bring it to 'workout video night'. My friends and I get together and everyone brings workout videos. I always make everyone start with this video because not only is it my favorite, I think it is a classic because it uses oldies that every knows and are fun to dance to. This is the perfect video to start a new workout schedule or to add some fun to a current one. I highly recommend this tape to everyone, all ages and sizes.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT VIDEO HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE
This is the only Richard Simmons video that we have and are looking
forward to getting more. This is lot of fun to excercise too. My husband has Parkinsons Disease and I believed by getting this video it would encourage him to enjoy excercising. I think it is helping him to excercise more and he seems to have fun and enjoys this one video, anyone familiar with Parkinsons knows the difficulty with movement. I shall continue to encourage him to push on as long as he can with this fun and easy, and do as he can with Richard. Neither one of us is over weight but we know the importance of excercise, being up in our years we find that Richard Simmons is an enjoyable way to work out. Music is great on this one. I give it five stars PLUS some. Glad we got this one. Thanks for the opportunity to share my opionion on this site. Have a nice day.

5-0 out of 5 stars if you love dancin' then you'll love sweatin'
this tape was so much fun. i'm a very lazy person and hate exercise but when i bought this tape and put it on to see what it's about i just couldn't help shaking my tush!!! it's packed with stretching, low-impact aerobis, and weight training all done in a "dancy" fun manner! another thing i loved is that the people doing the workout in the video are all normal looking poeple of all shapes and sizes! if you love dancing to the oldies, then you'll love this tape.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite - From an overweight exerciser
There are some continuity problems and there is a move in Jailhouse Rock that is difficult on carpet, but I modified it for myself. Requires having a moveable chair handy (like a light weight kitchen chair) and hand weights (or 16 to 20 ounce soda bottles). Also requires floor work (crunches and leg lifts). It helps to have a mat for the floor work. This is one of my favorites because it does combine aerobics with strength training. 55 minutes of exercise. Plenty of short pauses where you can grab some water. ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Keeper
I've owned this video since 1994 and it is one that I will always keep and work out with. Tamilee is consise in her movements. Her direction is excellent and this video is result oriented. I started with this video in 1994, 3x week. Combined with step aerobics, I lost 18 pounds in 3 months. I've come back to it, four years after back surgery, started slowly to build my core back up. This tape is hard work, but with any exercise, as your muscles increase in strength, your workouts become easier and you feel your muscles working! I reccommend this tape for anyone looking for a weekly ABS workout. The tape is 40 minutes broken out into sections which provide for variety during the week. The workouts are intense enough and results oriented to keep you motiviated. The results, if you stick to it, show up in no time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow..this is great!
I just bought this video today after reading some of the reviews about it. I just did Program One and I love it! My abs feel tighter already and I only did a few minutes of the tape. I am athlete at school so I have my own workouts I do, but I'll stick to this tape. Ms. Webb makes it easy to follow and it really works. This is definite workout tape keeper!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ab Workout
This tape is great. It's easy to follow and the background music is not annoying.

Also, many workout tapes are long. This tape is perfect for someone who works. There are 3 ten minutes segments. Every morning you do a different segment. And, each segment is completely different so you will never get bored with the tape.

Although this tape is well over ten years old, I highly recommend it to anyone trying to tone their abs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flab to Fab
This is one of the best ab workouts I know of. I have been a certified instructor and know what good ab workouts are all about - this one is it. I would recommend it for men and women who are serious about getting stronger healthier abdominals. Tamilee is a pleasure to watch and listen to, no silly class of made-up women bouncing around behind her. I started doing this video in 1993 and I still do it today. If you follow it 3 times a week, you will feel the burn, and you will have initial pain, but you will get all the gain!! Enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars still the best
no other abs tape has equalled this offering from tammy lee webb. there are 3 great workouts that will give your abs the burn you're looking for and tammy lee's genuinely nice but also determined personality will help make sure you complete the program faithfully. tammy lee retains her crown as the all-time technical and charismatic leader in home workout tapes. ... This tape works your abs so good, and you can actually see the results faster than any tape I've ever used before. Denise Austin is a great instructor and her moves are very effective.

I've owned this video for two weeks now and I'm already seeing results. There are a variety of tummy tightening exercises and it is very fun! I also learned some new exercises that I had never tried before that are very effective in tightening the upper and lower abs. This video is fantastic and I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ab Work
I have been doing ab workouts 3 times a week for 3 months with other videos. After just one use of this tape, I could feel the difference from my other videos. It worked parts of my abs that felt tighter than I had never felt before. I use it exclusively for ab work now. You get a great workout in such a short video.

5-0 out of 5 stars You have found the right exercise series! Read Review!
I do not usually take the time to write reviews, however, I must write a review for a few of Denise Austin's newer videos that I have been seeing fabulous results from recently. I am the 35 year old mom of 3 young girls under the age of 8. I had gained more than 40 pounds that were (VERY) unwanted, from having kids, and dating my honey in college. Using a sensible, nutrition plan like Denise descibes in her "Shrink your female fat zones" - which means moderation, not short term deprivation which eventually results in you bouncing back and gaining extra pounds: Thus, I watch my carbs (focusing on consuming the "good" ones, eat lots of fruit and veggies, drink lots of water, and do have a sweet bite if I feel like it - but KNOW I must then go exercise it off). I have focused on learning about "proper" nutrition - what foods do to me literally, and sucking it up and cutting out the bad things like transfats, refined "dead" flours, and soda (yep, sorry - it can be tough to quit - but it's worth it!! And PLEASE do not drink diet sodas - unless you really are willing to accept that you may end up with Fibromyalgia or other negative side effects. I honestly feel fabulous since cutting out soda! I do have up to 2 cups of coffee per day - using Splenda to sweeten the coffee. For my exercise routine I am walking on my treadmill about 3 days a week (walking 2 miles at 4mph, takes 30 minutes = excellent cardio fat burner - put music cd on headset, read while walking or just get into the music and 2 miles goes by quickly) and then using Denise Austin's Get fit fast 3 video set (Abs, Arms and Shoulders, and Legs and Buns) a couple days per week, then also I have added the new Shrink you female fat zones video which is 2 - 20 minute segments - one with a stability ball, and one without. I am telling you that this simple easy-to-follow plan rocks! The short videos are awesome spot training - and you WILL know you worked your muscles! Each of the 3 videos has 3 different segments on them; advancing in difficulty as you go. All the newest, most effective moves are used - like ballet, kick boxing, etc. Then as far as the "Shrink your female fat zones" video - I just got it and I LOVE the workouts - both are short (easy to fit in with kids - you can workout while a baby is strapped in a high chair eating breakfast...hint, hint) yet like the other 3 videos, you'll KNOW you got a workout! And the stability ball... I LOVE IT!!! I noticed immedietly it gave me added support for my back and neck and it eliminates the need for a fancy, space-consuming weight machine! The results: I have gone from a size 12 medium/large to a size 8 small/medium - in only 2 months!!!!! I do not weigh myself often as per Denise Austin's teaching - because she is so right - the muscle I am creating is heavier than fat, BUT takes up MUCH less space! I do know from the last time I weighed myself, that I only have 20 more pounds to reach my target weight of 120 pounds for my petite 5'2" body - and I feel great! My husband told me a couple of days ago when he pinched my rear end ;-) that he noticed how firm I am getting!!!!! YES! I also have noticed that my abs (even after having a c-section 5 years ago) are very firm, my thighs are finally toning and shrinking, and my upper arms are finally near strapless-top condition!! The muscles are defining and cut! I have only made changes that I could keep for LIFE and done a little exercise nearly every day, just like Denise said. It has set the example for my children as well - since I have explained to them that the importance is that I am physically fit and strong and taking care of my muscles (which includes my heart!) I also highly recommend getting on Denise Austin's daily motivation and nutrition/exercise email list via Lifetime - I have gained so many nuggets from Denise! I also wanted to comment that I have been a long time (5 year) user of TaeBo - and it also is very effective and great for adding to Denise Austin's workouts for diversity. Using TaeBo over the past 5 years I have lost more that 3 inches in each thigh, my buttocks, etc - over 25 inches lost using the diverse but simple program I described - and YOU can do it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!
I got this video acouple of months ago when i started weight watchers and i was very new with exercising. i started using it here and there and i could feel it. and now atleast 7 months later i can get through all 3 levels. and when i looked back i'm amazed at what this video has done! i could've never done this whole video 7 months ago! nor could i have gotten past the first or second level. Health and fitness experts are exhorting us to incorporate weight training into our fitness programs--it's especially important for women for building bone density, but the truth is that working with weights increases your metabolism (are you listening? this means more fat-burning) all day. As with the cardio workout, Smith has designed two 20-minute workouts; on hectic days, doing the first alone is plenty, and on other days doing both programs will combine to help you see fast results. The movements are basic (including the all-important single-arm rows, key to building back muscles and keeping posture correct), and the delivery inviting and completely unintimidating. If you've been thinking of beginning a weight program, this (and a couple of sets of inexpensive hand weights) is really all you need to get started. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Workout with Terrific Results
I love this tape. I got it about six months ago and have been doing it about twice a week and I couldn't be happier with the results. This tape will get your arms and legs in terrific shape (the ab program is a little too short for me, frankly) if you do it faithfully, and the tape is so enjoyable, that it's easy to do faithfully. As she points out in the video, building muscle helps you lose weight, and this video will help you reach your goal. As other reviewers have stated, she offers two tracks, complete with guidance as to who should do what when, and recommends beginning weights. Her direction is terrific and the tape really flows. She's energetic, without being overly peppy (as I find her in some other videos). Unlike a lot of other tapes, you don't waste time listening to instruction, you are working out for the entire 40 minutes. Kathy Smith has split the tape into two 20 minute workouts (upper and lower body) which is really helpful when you've got limited time to workout.

Bottom line, Kathy Smith has designed a terrific workout tape that is easy to stick with and will give you the results you want.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for all over body toning
This is my favorite video. In the past I have used Kathy's Functionally Fit-Lower Body Firming tape and found that to be very effective, but had to do other tapes for arms, abs, etc. This tape combines 3 complete workouts: 1 for your upper body and arms, 1 for your lower body, and 1 for your abs. Each exercise is just long enough so that you feel the burn, but don't have to quit early. The entire tape (all 3 workouts) takes just under an hour, but you can split it up if you feel like only working certain parts. The upper and lower body workouts also have 2 tracks - using heavier weights, or lighter weights and more repetitions which makes for a nice change of pace. Kathy whoops and yells a little more than in her other videos, but the workout is good enough that I just ignore it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Results!
This workout is great. I have been using it for over a year and I love the results. I have recommended it to friends and they love it too. I too was a lightweight- I began this workout using 2 and 3 lb weights. You have to gradually work up to heavier weights. I now use 8lbs for most of the exercises in the upper body workout. I love Kathy's style- I do not think she is annoying. She is just trying to keep you motivated! At least she is not fake like other instructors- she is herself. Take it or leave it. I would take it though- since she must be doing something right (just look at her). If you are a beginner, make sure you have your weights ready to go, because it will seem fast at the beginning. After a few times though, you will get the hang of it. Results don't come easily. It will hurt. Your arms will feel like wet noodles afterwards (will hurt to lift an apple), but that means it is working! Do not be intimidated if you are a beginner- trust me- I had never lifted a weight in my life until I began this video. I prefer using a weight bench (40 bucks for a decent one at walmart) because there are certain exercises that are difficult to get good form on without a bench. Remember progress takes time! I also LOVE her step aerobic workout tape called Fat Burning Breakthrough, which combines step aerobics with upper body weights. Whew! It will do a number on you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fast Paced, It Works; Go Easy If You're a Beginner!
I exercise regularly, mainly Body Electric, Yoga, & Pilates. I wanted to "rev" up my workouts by adding aerobics (I'm waiting for K.S.'s aerobic tapes) & fat burning weight routines. In other words, I needed to "mix up" & add variety to my workouts. This tape really does it. While yes, she does go a bit fast, & there's intro that one will eventually skip, if one has the patience to "work into" the routine, you'll catch on, adjust the levels, and end up doing a fantastic workout that will keep your workouts fresh & have your muscles thanking you! I agree that a "bench" in not really needed for some routines, but this is a slickly produced product that gets the job done. Again, this is fast-paced & there really is not "warm up" involved. I would suggest a bit of stretching before "jumping" into the routine, or "warm up" during her intro. Also, as one becomes familiar with the routines, one can (and should) have all the necessary equiptment ready, because this routine goes quickly. Beginners, go easy & split the routines; die hards, do both routines in one session unless time is a problem. If that's the case, alternate routines & work to the max!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kathy smith- timesaver-lift weights to lose weight
I am in good shape but wanted a quick workout with weights to increase metabolism. I love this video. I use it daily. Upper one day and lower body the next. I am 34 and I use the exercise bike daily too. I have noticed firmer and more toned muscles and am excited about them finally showing up. I didn't enjoy Kathy's second volume. I went back to this one immeditately. ... Read more

Billed as the "future of fitness" and hawked by numerous celebrities, Billy Blanks's Tae-Bo actually deserves much of the hype it's receiving. A mixture of boxing punches and martial arts kicks, Tae-Bo is fun and easy. One of the best elements of this four-tape set is that the first tape (which is 40 minutes long), Tae-Bo: Instructional, lays out the movements you need to successfully complete a workout. Next comes Advanced, a 57-minute workout that will have your heart racing, pulse pounding, and sweat glands working overtime. There's razzmatazz on the moves, with slightly more complicated combinations that should be fairly easy to master if you've completed the first two tapes. This video seriously raises the bar on the difficulty factor.

In addition to the short warm-up, the cool-down, and the 30 minutes of Tae-Bo, Advanced Tae-Bo also includes 18 minutes of muscle-crunching floor work. You know you're in trouble when even the guys in the tape have trouble keeping up. Make sure you have truly mastered the first two tapes before attempting this one. The 8-Minute Workout is a highly compacted workout (actually 14 minutes long when you include warm-up and cool-down) for those days when you're too short on time for Basic or Advanced. While the 8-minute idea is compelling, it's not an adequate substitute for the longer workouts. Blanks, a seven-time World Martial Arts champion, is a superb instructor, providing encouragement and careful instruction (if you don't know by the end of the tape to hold in your stomach, that's no one's fault but your own). The only downside to these tapes is the less-than-exciting music. Not only is Tae-Bo great exercise for all levels, but the punches and kicks are wonderful for working out stress and aggression. This is the aerobics exercise video for people who are bored by aerobics. --Jenny Brown ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Literally
Living in New England, my running routine has somewhat gone down the tubes due to the frigid weather. Plus my class schedule has so many 8-5 days in it that I don't have time to hit the gym. SO, I decided just after Thanksgiving to start doing a workout tape regime that would kill less time and still keep me in shape.

My first tape...Callanetics. Great sculpting workout, but no cardio. The immediate first thought...Tae Bo. I have a lot of friends who sang the praises of Billy Blanks, but I had yet to see myself what cardio kickboxing was all about. I bought the DVD version (1) because it was actually cheaper than the tapes and (2) had all the tapes rolled up into one slim package that would probably last longer anyway.

I did what the instructions told me and did the introductory workout first. This teaches you the basics of the moves he likes to incorporate into the routines. Although I feel that he could have explained some of the positions better (i.e., when you do the roundhouse kicks, turn the foot you're standing on OUT...it will help twist your hips down so you can lift your leg as high as possible while working out your gluteal muscles...he doesn't emphasize this, just tells you to keep your hand on your hip and kick to the side), you find out his workout is relatively simple in technique. However, he warns you that he CAN and WILL make it more PHYSICALLY difficult as you progress.

I then advanced to the basics workout. Being an avid runner and gym rat, I found this to be a pretty decent workout. Built up a respectable sweat and felt empowered...just pictured kicking ex-boyfriends in the face. :) Plus, I surprised myself with how fierce I can feel...really lets out stress and remains fun.

The advanced workout...whoa. Not for the faint of heart. 45 minutes of cardio with many many many fast sequences of kicks and jabs that will make you feel like a puppet being yanked in eight different directions...it's great. :) Then, the floor work...you probably have never done so many doggy-lifts in your life! Killer! :) I highly recommend this DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Taebo will get you going!
I have been doing power yoga, jump roping, running, power walking, some martial arts (at studios) and a little weight lifting and I couldn't even get toned. I was still getting slightly depressed and I felt my motivation go down. BUT then I luckily found Taebo. Billy Blanks is this incredible motivator that really gets you going. Before I got to an advanced level I started to see stomach muscle tone and overall lean muscle tone--it's really amazing. Yes, you should spend an extra 15 min of stretching prior and after each workout, but if Billy Blanks were to have included a stretch out in the videos than it would have been boring. Yes, the music [is bad]. However, you can get over those petty concerns if you take your fitness goals seriously. Don't whine, get off your seat and just do it! I'm now doing Taebo 5X a week and cardio 1X a week--despite the fact that I have recently recieved radiation treatment for Grave's disease (and will require a life time of meds). You can transcend any emotional pain in your life by your pure determinism!

4-0 out of 5 stars They could have picked better music!!!
I love TaeBo, but it's a little difficult to get pumped up to elevator hiphop! Please! Overall, the workout is awesome. I saw results in 2 weeks, and it makes me feel strong, sexy, and empowered (I just picture kicking and punching my ex-husband in the face when I need that extra boost! LOL). This is worth the money. Maybe when you get the moves down, you could crank up some real music to kick-butt to!

I order this DVd for $20 two days later E-bay cancel my order an
said they had no more. Now I look on e-bay they have the same
taebo DVD at a higher cost???Is this a rip off or what?

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, It Really Works
I have had to work to control my weight since puberty. I have been working out since I was 16 yrs. old and of all the things I have tried, I have never gotten into shape as fast as I did with Tae-Bo. About a month and a half after I began the workout, people were asking me what I was doing. I was so pleased with the results! And not only do you lose weight quick, but you feel so much better! Strong and energized. I thought what I payed was pretty inexpensive after seeing what it did for me. ... Read more

The third workout video in the Sweatin' to the Oldies series follows the winning format of a lively, beginners' workout with Richard Simmons and a cheerful roomful of enthusiastic friends--many large sized--dancing to blasts from the past with a live band. This time the venue is a theme park, and the music includes get-up- and-dance favorites such as "Gimme Some Lovin'," "Louie, Louie," "Rockin' Robin," "Born to be Wild," "The Name Game," and "Do You Want to Dance?" The choreography is aimed at beginners: simple moves like knee lifts and cha-cha steps, always light intensity and low impact. Besides the motivating music, what makes this and all of the Sweatin' to the Oldies videos special is how much fun everyone on screen is having. You can't help but catch their dancing fever! 4-0 out of 5 stars Fun stuff!
You get a good workout with Richard whether it's in person or on a tape. Beginners and Intermediates will find a lot to love in this tape: great music, fun routines, lots of inspiration. This video has the sexiest moves of any of his tapes, so I'd recommend staying away from it if you're offended by that kind of thing. This one is fun, long, and not as easy as it looks. But there are plenty of people to watch as examples of how to either tone down the routine or jazz it up. The setting is like a carnival, and the routine has as much energy as a carnival ride. Great fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweating to the Oldies 3 changed my life.
This sounds so american pie, but Sweating to The Oldies 3 really did change my life. I lost 30 pounds doing it, and became alot closer to my brother as well. If you saw a picture of me, you'd probably think I was the last person to do a Richard Simmons workout, let alone excersize. I have tried other workouts, but they were all too boring for me. Once I tried this video, I seriously couldn't stop! I was brought up on the oldies, and now listen to goth, punk, techno & ska, but doing this made me feel like a kid again ;o) This probably sounds completely fabricated, but I assure you, its true ;o)

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I haven't done the first or second one but I do know that this one was great. It is alot of dancing but it really makes you sweat. The songs are great and they just keep you going. I highly recommend this video!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun! But too cute in parts for me
I like this video. I do it every other day, alternating with STTO 2. I started 3 months ago, as a complete beginner (at 49) at this sort of thing but thought I might prefer this type of exercise over walking (and walking and walking) as part of the program reccomended by my doctor to lower my blood pressure and help reduce the cholesterol count. It wasn't difficult to learn the routines , though there are still parts where I get caught out, but mostly I catch up pretty quickly. A couple of things irritate me about both, they each have one song with a routine that I loathe, mostly because I can't do part of it. In STTO 2 its Jailhouse Rock , the first part is almost impossible for me to do on a carpet, in 3 its The Name Game which has a lot of redundant hand and arm gestures and the whole thing is just a bit silly. Having said that, I get round it by doing my own thing , picking up the routine again when its gets more worthwhile. I think I prefer 3 despite this, its fast and fun and it has certainly helped me to lose (with diet) 33lbs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful music and a great workout!
I bought this tape on a whim because when i was in HS gym class we used to do this tape. Boy was I in for a suprise when I first did this tape! It is a great workout that really gets your heart pumping. Plus the music is very fun to dance to. Richard Simmons is an inspiration to us all. He knows what it is like to be in a situation where you are at rock bottom, and he brings us out of it. The beat is great, the songs are great and the workout is great. The only problem I found with it was that Richard doesn't explain what the target heart rate is. That is important to you when you are exercising. Otherwise put on your dancing shoes and get to sweating! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Jane Fonda's best!
I LOVE this workout! And I'm not just saying this because I'm Jane Fonda's biggest fan! It's got fun moves and great music! Lesley Lillian sings her hit single "Do It" during the workout. After several days of doing the workout, I found myself singing along! I just love how there's a beginner workout and advanced all in one video! The only time I get to do the workout is when I rent it. It'd be a dream come true if I could purchase this excellent video!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of Jane's best videos!
This video contains two segments, one for the beginner and one for the advanced. I'd say that the beginners' class is more designed for an intermediate student. While this tape's beginners' class is easier than the one on her original Workout video, having a long series of high impact aerobics and some stretches that require a certain amount of flexibility is not a good idea for a new exerciser. The advanced class is pretty much the same as the beginners', with a few added moves which adds to the length of the class.

A lot of the moves are consistent with her early videos, like the original, the Prime Time and the Challenge, but are modified so they are easier to perform. There is always a student doing a modified version of a tough movement so you're not alone if you can't bring your chin to your forehead like Jane. :-)

Quality wise, this is one of her finest videos. She really focuses on exercising safely and effectively. The exercises are performed to enjoyable, yet typically-80's music, since it was made in 1985! I agree that the advanced class is top-quality. The beginners' class has a good warmup, waist and abdominal section. But some of the other sections, mainly the aerobics and the floor stretch are pushing it.

Still, this video is one of her finest and if you're in pretty good shape and can find this tape, I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A workout classic
I bought my first copy of this workout tape back 1985, after a nicely fit girl in one of my college classes told me she used Jane Fonda's workouts to stay in shape. So I got this tape, used it religously 3-4 times per week and found out what it was like to have a body and energy other people envied. It really is a great beginner tape, I'm what you might call choreographically challenged, but the moves in the workout were fairly simple and the aerobics just enough, at first. Eventually I decided the workout wasn't long enough so I put on a music cassette and made up my own moves, (moves best left unshared) continously rewinding the tape during play so that I could go longer. All that rewinding caused the tape to wear out, and I just ordered what will be my 3rd copy. I do alternate with other work out tapes to avoid monotony, but none have ever beat the stretches at the end of this workout, especially the hip stretches. I always come back to this tape when I need to get back my motivation.

5-0 out of 5 stars An 'Oldie' but a 'Goodie'!
I found this video buried at my parents', as others have, and fell in love with it. In high school I lost 80 POUNDS doin
