5-0 out of 5 stars Hard, but fun
I hadn't realized how out of shape I was until I followed along with this video. At first, there were many exercises I simply couldn't complete, but I made sure to keep moving, and stick with it till the end. The 52 minutes go by quickly.

The best part about this video is that the exercises are easy to figure out. I normally hate aerobics, but the aerobic warm up here is simple and gets the heart pumping right away.

Greg Smithey is friendly and encouraging. I like the ordinary-looking people behind him who are able to keep up without grimacing in pain; that gave me hope for myself. You WILL feel the burn while doing these exercises, but just keep trying and do the best YOU can. They will eventually get easier, and you'll like the results.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works
Buns of steel by Greg Smithey is just wonderful. I have worked out my whole life at home trying every video that came out starting with Jane Fonda videos and nothing gave me the results this tape did. While working with the video, Greg gives funny and encouraging comments that really put a smile on my face and made me want to keep going. It is really hard when you first start out if you are not in shape, but just do a little bit of each exercise and add more each time you do it and you will get where you want to be. It is my absolute favorite! It starts out with a short arobic workout to warm up your muscles that also works on your arms. It then you go into the entire leg and [back] workout. You will feel it in every muscle. Greg is very thorough. It finishes with a stomach and cool down stretch. It is just perfect and very enjoyable due to Greg's humor. Just try it, you will love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent total body workout- you WILL get results!
This is a really old video, but the only thing I feel is lacking is that it is not available on DVD. Hopefully it will be sometime- I have tried other videos but this one is simply the best. First of all, this is a tough workout. You will be sore until you get used to it! The beginning aerobic workout gets your heart rate up and is over before you know it- then you are lying on the floor working outer thighs, inner thighs, buns, and then a short abs segment.

It's hard to do the entire tape at first. Do what you can and each time you use the tape you will be able to do a few more repetitions. Be sure to listen to the instructor and use proper form. I jog and use this tape along with Denise Austin's Super Stomach and have seen REALLY great results (both tapes are old!). I firmed up, lost my extra pounds, and got rid of cellulite. I had to work at it and it wasn't easy, but I did this tape 3-4 times a week consistently and obtained a smaller firmer [posterior] and firm, lean thighs. I highly recommend this tape! I never get bored with it and have owned it for about 10 years now.

Don't let its cheesiness fool you- this is a very effective and fun tape. If you really want to get in shape, you can, and I will just repeat that I had very good results from couch potato to fit, using Buns of Steel, Denise Austin's Super Stomach, and walking/jogging. I do Buns of Steel 3-4 times a week, walk daily, jog a mile daily, and Super Stomachs daily. I have many other fitness videos but this is my favorite, easiest to maintain, and most-results-getting routine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buns of Concrete
I purchased this video a from Amazon and I Love it!! It is a tad bit old, but the results are what really count. You really feel a burn when you do these exercises and its very low impact.

I recommend this VHS for people who are pear-shaped like me and need to really tone the lower half of your body.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
I've joined all the clubs and tried all tapes. I have gone down to a size 6 from a size 10 since starting this tape (and cutting down carbs) about four weeks ago. He's goofy, but knows what he's doing and targets those hard to target areas perfectly. I'm very happy and I highly recommend this tape! ... Read more

    5-0 out of 5 stars A Keeper
I've owned this video since 1994 and it is one that I will always keep and work out with. Tamilee is consise in her movements. Her direction is excellent and this video is result oriented. I started with this video in 1994, 3x week. Combined with step aerobics, I lost 18 pounds in 3 months. I've come back to it, four years after back surgery, started slowly to build my core back up. This tape is hard work, but with any exercise, as your muscles increase in strength, your workouts become easier and you feel your muscles working! I reccommend this tape for anyone looking for a weekly ABS workout. The tape is 40 minutes broken out into sections which provide for variety during the week. The workouts are intense enough and results oriented to keep you motiviated. The results, if you stick to it, show up in no time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow..this is great!
I just bought this video today after reading some of the reviews about it. I just did Program One and I love it! My abs feel tighter already and I only did a few minutes of the tape. I am athlete at school so I have my own workouts I do, but I'll stick to this tape. Ms. Webb makes it easy to follow and it really works. This is definite workout tape keeper!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ab Workout
This tape is great. It's easy to follow and the background music is not annoying.

Also, many workout tapes are long. This tape is perfect for someone who works. There are 3 ten minutes segments. Every morning you do a different segment. And, each segment is completely different so you will never get bored with the tape.

Although this tape is well over ten years old, I highly recommend it to anyone trying to tone their abs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flab to Fab
This is one of the best ab workouts I know of. I have been a certified instructor and know what good ab workouts are all about - this one is it. I would recommend it for men and women who are serious about getting stronger healthier abdominals. Tamilee is a pleasure to watch and listen to, no silly class of made-up women bouncing around behind her. I started doing this video in 1993 and I still do it today. If you follow it 3 times a week, you will feel the burn, and you will have initial pain, but you will get all the gain!! Enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars still the best
no other abs tape has equalled this offering from tammy lee webb. there are 3 great workouts that will give your abs the burn you're looking for and tammy lee's genuinely nice but also determined personality will help make sure you complete the program faithfully. tammy lee retains her crown as the all-time technical and charismatic leader in home workout tapes. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Ab Video!
This tape works your abs so good, and you can actually see the results faster than any tape I've ever used before. Denise Austin is a great instructor and her moves are very effective.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Denise Austin-Get Fit Fast-Abs
I've owned this video for two weeks now and I'm already seeing results. There are a variety of tummy tightening exercises and it is very fun! I also learned some new exercises that I had never tried before that are very effective in tightening the upper and lower abs. This video is fantastic and I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ab Work
I have been doing ab workouts 3 times a week for 3 months with other videos. After just one use of this tape, I could feel the difference from my other videos. It worked parts of my abs that felt tighter than I had never felt before. I use it exclusively for ab work now. You get a great workout in such a short video.

5-0 out of 5 stars You have found the right exercise series! Read Review!
I do not usually take the time to write reviews, however, I must write a review for a few of Denise Austin's newer videos that I have been seeing fabulous results from recently. I am the 35 year old mom of 3 young girls under the age of 8. I had gained more than 40 pounds that were (VERY) unwanted, from having kids, and dating my honey in college. Using a sensible, nutrition plan like Denise descibes in her "Shrink your female fat zones" - which means moderation, not short term deprivation which eventually results in you bouncing back and gaining extra pounds: Thus, I watch my carbs (focusing on consuming the "good" ones, eat lots of fruit and veggies, drink lots of water, and do have a sweet bite if I feel like it - but KNOW I must then go exercise it off). I have focused on learning about "proper" nutrition - what foods do to me literally, and sucking it up and cutting out the bad things like transfats, refined "dead" flours, and soda (yep, sorry - it can be tough to quit - but it's worth it!! And PLEASE do not drink diet sodas - unless you really are willing to accept that you may end up with Fibromyalgia or other negative side effects. I honestly feel fabulous since cutting out soda! I do have up to 2 cups of coffee per day - using Splenda to sweeten the coffee. For my exercise routine I am walking on my treadmill about 3 days a week (walking 2 miles at 4mph, takes 30 minutes = excellent cardio fat burner - put music cd on headset, read while walking or just get into the music and 2 miles goes by quickly) and then using Denise Austin's Get fit fast 3 video set (Abs, Arms and Shoulders, and Legs and Buns) a couple days per week, then also I have added the new Shrink you female fat zones video which is 2 - 20 minute segments - one with a stability ball, and one without. I am telling you that this simple easy-to-follow plan rocks! The short videos are awesome spot training - and you WILL know you worked your muscles! Each of the 3 videos has 3 different segments on them; advancing in difficulty as you go. All the newest, most effective moves are used - like ballet, kick boxing, etc. Then as far as the "Shrink your female fat zones" video - I just got it and I LOVE the workouts - both are short (easy to fit in with kids - you can workout while a baby is strapped in a high chair eating breakfast...hint, hint) yet like the other 3 videos, you'll KNOW you got a workout! And the stability ball... I LOVE IT!!! I noticed immedietly it gave me added support for my back and neck and it eliminates the need for a fancy, space-consuming weight machine! The results: I have gone from a size 12 medium/large to a size 8 small/medium - in only 2 months!!!!! I do not weigh myself often as per Denise Austin's teaching - because she is so right - the muscle I am creating is heavier than fat, BUT takes up MUCH less space! I do know from the last time I weighed myself, that I only have 20 more pounds to reach my target weight of 120 pounds for my petite 5'2" body - and I feel great! My husband told me a couple of days ago when he pinched my rear end ;-) that he noticed how firm I am getting!!!!! YES! I also have noticed that my abs (even after having a c-section 5 years ago) are very firm, my thighs are finally toning and shrinking, and my upper arms are finally near strapless-top condition!! The muscles are defining and cut! I have only made changes that I could keep for LIFE and done a little exercise nearly every day, just like Denise said. It has set the example for my children as well - since I have explained to them that the importance is that I am physically fit and strong and taking care of my muscles (which includes my heart!) I also highly recommend getting on Denise Austin's daily motivation and nutrition/exercise email list via Lifetime - I have gained so many nuggets from Denise! I also wanted to comment that I have been a long time (5 year) user of TaeBo - and it also is very effective and great for adding to Denise Austin's workouts for diversity. Using TaeBo over the past 5 years I have lost more that 3 inches in each thigh, my buttocks, etc - over 25 inches lost using the diverse but simple program I described - and YOU can do it too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!
I got this video acouple of months ago when i started weight watchers and i was very new with exercising. i started using it here and there and i could feel it. and now atleast 7 months later i can get through all 3 levels. and when i looked back i'm amazed at what this video has done! i could've never done this whole video 7 months ago! nor could i have gotten past the first or second level. I remember in one of my amazon lists i put this on and i put the 2nd level is really hard and now i laugh when i look at it because its a breeze for me and my abs look great now! i swear on this video and it does miracles! ... Yoga focuses on keeping the spine open and supported, so it is understandable why millions of people turn to yoga for self-care of their back, explains instructor Rodney Yee in Back Care Yoga for Beginners, a gentle, easy 30-minute introduction to yoga. Its 20-minute yoga workout maximizes the movements of the spine and Yee carefully demonstrates the back-strengthening yoga postures, sometimes using a chair (sitting in it or standing and propping one foot on it). His form is beautiful, his explanations clear. If you're a beginner, realize that you cannot begin to approximate his degree of flexibility. Your goal is not to get as deeply into each posture as the instructor, but to reach your own comfortable limit. Cautions are given for pregnant women. --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for bad backs
I have a bad back due to an accident. It makes it hard to get around. I'm also overweight. other videos hurt my back or were too complicated with the moves.

I decided to give yoga a try.
Rodney Yee's video was AMAZING. He doesn't talk while doing the yoga- he has a voice over that goes along with you. He is not annoyingly peppy nor is he so boring that you want to fall asleep. His voice is relaxing in just the right way.

The positions are simple enough for ANYONE to understand. I got it my first time through. Most of the movements were so easy to do that I could focus on doing them rather than looking at the TV trying to figure it all out. Also, they recommend that you have a yoga strap to do these poses, you can easily use a belt, piece of rope etc. I didn't have to buy anything extra to do all the positions in this video.

I have discovered that I really like yoga- my back felt GREAT after I was done. I will buy more of Rodney Yee's yoga videos and I recommend that any yoga beginner's & people suffering from back pain try this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but be careful!
Be careful when doing this video! If you are like me, your back is okay a good majority of the time, but occasionally, you "throw your back out" and spend 3-5 days recovering(thus the need for continual back care exercises). I tried this video as part of my "recovery" and severly injured my lower back muscles. During a few of the exercises, I experienced severe burning pain. I rationalized this by thinking I was using/stretching muscles that aren't normally exercised. I thought this might actually be a good thing. I tried the tape again a second day and experience the same problems. Finally I wised up and stopped using the tape. I went back to my old recovery exercises(pelvic tilt, crunches, stretching, etc). It took 2 months before my muscles finally started to recover. I'm still not back to 100% and it's almost been 3 months.

I do plan on using this tape again once I'm fully recovered. I can tell from what I've seen, this would be a good tape for back care. He does move pretty quickly through the exercises so it will take you a couple of times before you can keep up.

Remember, if you feel pain, don't continue the exercise!

5-0 out of 5 stars Twenty minutes well-spent
These comments respond to several made in earlier reviews.

This video does more for my back pain than any medication doctors prescribed. It's a good idea to pre-view a new exercise video before you start. For this one you'll need a chair and a fabric strap of some kind (I use a bathrobe belt). Any exercise coach worth their salt will tell you if it hurts, don't do it. I certainly don't have the flexibilty Rodney displays, so I just do what I can and know that over time things will improve.

When it's time to rewind, only go as far back as the beginning of the exercise segment so you don't have to watch the disclaimers and promotional announcements over and over.

3-0 out of 5 stars Back care to keep your healthy back healthy
From my personal and professional experience I can tell: this is not recommended if you ve a serious back problem, in that case go for "Somatics"...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Back Flexibility-With a Tummy Tuck Bonus!
I have been using this video for some time, and have found it to be a great way to stretch and strengthen the muscles in my back, especially my lower back. I have what is primarily a desk job, and this video has helped improve my posture significantly, as well as helping with my flexibility. As an added bonus, as my lower back muscles became stronger and posture improved, I noticed that my stomach was pulled in tighter and my spine was straighter. I highly recommend this video to anybody who sits at a desk all day-use it every other day for two weeks and see how you feel.

Rodney Yee uses a clear style of presentation, but be sure to watch the video through a couple of times before trying it, so you don't keep trying to twist around and see what he's doing. The postures are done with a chair, and I found that a basic, plain old kitchen table chair worked great. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner/intermediate workout!
The 8-Minute Abs video is a great way to get started with a home ab-workout. Instructor Jaime Brenkus is excellent with motivation and cue-ing. The 8 minute length of the workout fits into almost everyone's schedule. As you get in better shape, you can just do it twice for a 16-minute workout!

4-0 out of 5 stars Got some spare time?
I am an "advanced beginner" in aerobics who has been exercising regularly for the past year-and-a-half. Until recently, I have used a daily workout shown to me by a friend who is much more experienced. The routine had excellent results for my back, legs, and rearend, but I have had a frustrating time with my stomach. I am not at all overweight, but my stomach has had too much dimension. About three months ago I decided to try a new routine for the sake of my belly and purchased the 8 minute workout because there has always been so much talk about it. The exercises in the video are challenging enough and Jaime Brenkus does wonderfully in keeping each exercise to the point without preaching. I still have some way to go with my abs, but they are becoming more and more defined. I am also surprised by how well the exercises have added muscle to the rest of my body, particularly the arms and chest. I am feeling a lot more confident now and recommend it to anyone who can spare about ten minutes of their day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout video!
I bought this video about a year ago along with the 8minute buns video. 16 minutes a day was all it took to get my body into shap. I could actually feel it working the first day after using this video. My tummy ached, my buttocks ached but a few days went by and it soon went away. Why did it ache? Because my muscles were actually being strengthed, techniques in this video works! If you haven't exercised in a long time, look out because this video gives your body a workout. For under 20 bucks and under 20 minutes a day, this workout is so much cheaper than joining a gym! Get a friend or your partner to work out with you, it's fun :) I really recommend this video pack if you want to get you're serious about getting your bod in shape for the summer. I'm a happy camper.. 8 minute abs and 8 minute buns worked for me! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Get That 6-Pack Back
After reading through the comments for this video, I have to agree that this is the best ab workout I have found. I played sports throughout high school and college, but now that I've graduated, I find myself going to the gym less often. This video has helped put me back on my fitness schedule and I use it as motivation to get back into the gym. The video does go by fast and I'm already beginning to see the definition in my stomach come back again. If you're looking for a quick, effective program for your stomach, I couldn't recommend anything else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Low quality video, but high quality exercise!
I love 8 minute abs. It works, okay?

A reviewer here complains "It just seems like this video was poorly made with amateur video equipment". Yeah. It isn't in THX or Dolby Digital either, so I guess the exercises suck. I need a sharp picture and surround sound to exercise my abs!

He/She continues, "I have used the tape about 15 times and it is already showing signs of wear (i.e. ripples in the tape, as if the tracking were off)". After fifteen times I was more impressed by the ripples subtly appearing on my abdomen than the ones on the tape! There's nothing that burns like sitting up in a crunch to adjust the tracking on my VCR. :)

Honestly, after using this for a small amount of time, what happens to the tape after repeated use is moot. Speaking for myself, I have the routine memorized and can do it without even bothering with the tape anymore. Can anyone else memorize an 8 minute routine after enough use, or is it just me?

Another dude says "I really didn't notice any improvement in my ab department after a month and a half of use." How much blubber covers your abs? Do you diet well? Do you do other exercises or is "8 Minute Abs" the beginning and end of your workout? Anyone thinking this or ANY routine without a proper diet or fat burning routine (cardio) is going to miraculously make you look like the guy on the cover of the video is nuts.

In conclusion, I have found 8 minute abs to be a quick, but powerful routine to apply to my overall workout and a high protein, low carb diet. The results are unquestionable and though the producer didn't spend a lot of money making the video, you don't have to spend a lot to buy it, so what's the problem? This is a very worthy routine for anyone who is serious about developing their abs, but smart enough to realize that it is not going to be the single reason for the results it helps you achieve. You won't find any tape here that will. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it! Love it! Love it!
I have always been self-conscious of my abs, always wanting them to be more defined, tighter, looking better. I have an AbsWork machine and a Body Blade and have been using those for 3+ years now. I would procrastinate doing those workouts, so I decided to give this video a try (mainly for the price), and I love it! It is quick, to the point and YOU FEEL IT BURN! The eight minutes go by quick and after two weeks my husband and I both notice a difference. I try to work out at least five times a week and it does not matter how much I use this video, I feel the burn! I recommend this to anyone who wants fast results and a great routine at that! Jaime is great at keeping you motivated and reminding you of the correct way to do the exercises. The bonus Arms are a plus and I use the soup cans! Better than going to the gym! My daughter (3 years old) even likes to do the workouts with me!

5-0 out of 5 stars nice surprise
I am not a workout tape junky but decided to give this one a try due to it's minimal time requirement. I am a new mom and free time is hard to come by. I did the tape for the first time today and I plan on keeping it in the VCR so that all I have to do is press play whenever I get a few minutes. I found the on screen 8 minute count down helpful and I like that they let you go at your own pace. You don't need any equipment although it is optional for the arms, they actually use soup cans! The instructor is lowkey and positive and there aren't a bunch of sweaty models posing for the camera. I definately felt the burn in my abs but next time I think I will use the soup cans for the arms. I am actually looking forward to doing this tomorrow!

    4-0 out of 5 stars AB-solutely fabulous!
This is an oldie but a goodie!

The "8 Minute" series is a good compliment to a healthy, active lifestyle. 16 minutes a day, at a minimum of 5 days a week, and you will see and feel results in your abs and arms. If you want to maximize your results, combine the workout with a balanced diet and cardio exercise. Keep With It!

Both the Ab and Arm workouts are targeted, with small movements. Easy to do in any small room! After a couple of weeks the moves become so repetitive that it is easy to do the ab workout even without the video. Great when I travel!

Do not expect dramatic weight loss with this video. However, you will feel stronger and build lean muscle. Can't beat that for 16 minutes a day!!

This is one of those Change-Your-Life videos...
Right up there with the best of them like
"New Sex Now" guide to life's ultimate pleasure
and the CD "Voice Lessons To Go"

Don't be afraid to love your life even more!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best ab workout ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been doing the ab workout for 3 months and the results are amazing. My abs have never been so hard and so defined. For all of you who previously wrote that you do not see results, you are obviously doing something wrong! Maybe you need to lose some weight first, you can't expect to exercise and not diet and then see results. Trust me, this ab workout DOES work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
I did this video faithfully for 4 weeks, until my pregnant belly wouldn't let me do push-ups anymore, but my arms improved so much it really was amazing. I can't wait until my baby is born, so that I can do this video, as well as the legs and buns, and the abs video, which I also own. It's so encouraging that I only have to work out 10-15 minutes each time and will be seeing results! It's amazing. I recommend this video very highly. You will need one set of 5-lb weights and one set of 2-3-lb weights, though, just so you know, but it works! Oh, and Denise's voice does not bother me at all - I think she sounds really sweet. I say that because some other reviewers said they didn't like it. Great video!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great results
This video is simple but it still produces results. 3 short workouts.

5-0 out of 5 stars This one works!
This video works if you do it regularly. I like the 10-15 minute work-out time frame. Some days I do all three work outs (total of 35 minutes) some days I do two, really busy days I do only one. After about one month I noticed a big difference in my entire upper body. Uses light weights. Do these work-outs every other day, not every day.

3-0 out of 5 stars Denise is annoying, but the moves work
I find Denise's voice to sound like a chain smoker, and she is just abarasive and overly peppy. I don't like that she's not actually DOING the moves with weights, but it's good that she actually moves around pointing out good form.

The moves work. So that's what's important, but overall I hope there is a better arms workout out there because I can't stick with this based on Denise. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT VIDEO, Y'ALL
I have been using this video for about 2 years now. There are three levels (as others mention in their reviews), but I stay on the first one. I like the first 10-minute workout because it's fast and simple: no chairs, no props, etc. I can just incorporate it into my routine (I spin, do push-ups, sit-ups and all that business), and it is EFFECTIVE. I must say, my husband thinks Denise sounds like a 2-pack-a-day smoker, and that just adds to the family fun!! I think she's great, and she knows about women's bodies. I have recommended this to my mom, my best bud--everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Buy for New Moms!
I had a baby 3 months ago and for the past 6 weeks have been using Denise's Get Fit Fast series. The results are wonderful! Since the tapes are for only 10-15 minutes each day, 3 times a week, I have been able to find the time to exrcise during my little one's naps. Also, my body is looking better than it did before I became pregnant. I am breast-feeding and the pounds won't come off, but my body is looking more tone. My husband is constantly complimenting me on how much better I look. I also feel more energized. I highly recommend this video series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great workout
I really love this workout. This video is divided into three sections; beginners, intermediate and advanced. Your suppose to do each section 2 to 3 times per week for two weeks before advancing to the next level. I've been doing this video 3 times a week for the last two weeks and I can already see a difference on my thighs. I have muscle definition and my legs feel alot firmer, too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video
Within 6 weeks of using this video, I noticed a big change in my muscle definition. I have used all kinds of videos to target this area, including the "of steel" workouts, and I have to say that this one did the best job out of any of them, and it only takes a few minutes. This workout is definitely worth a try! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Workout
After I had my baby my abs were gone. I could barely lift my head off the ground. After a few weeks of this video I can really do sit-ups again. This is an easy but effective workout that gets your body gently back into shape to the point where you can start using more intense workout videos again. It also has great stretches for the arms, shoulders, & back to help with those breastfeeding pains. It's been worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars User-friendly way to ease back into exercising after baby..
Fitness level: all levels, early post-partum Setting: Studio Breakdown: 3-minute segment floor exercise segment for the very first days post-partum; 5-minute standing warm-up; 10 minute segment for abs; 10 minutes for buns; 10 minutes for legs Music: cheesy "exercise" style--it's so bad I have no words with which to classify it! Focus on the excellent instruction instead and you'll be just fine :) Production: good Safety: A+++ meets ACOG guidelines

I bought this tape before my daughter was born, after reading in Shape Pregnancy that it had a segment you could do right away even after a cesearean delivery. That was what I was facing, so into my shopping cart it went along with the diapers and baby lotion. How glad I am that I bought it. Next pregnancy I'm going to buy Madeleine's pregancy workout to rotate with Kathy Smith's. This lady, like Kathy, not only pays attention to safety, but she calls in the experts to help her make it safe. Bonnie Rote, RN was the medical collaborator on both BOS Pregnancy and B & A Post-Pregancy.

I did the three-minute segment at the beginning when I was a week post-partum, then added the five-minute warm-up two days later. At two weeks I added the abs. The rest, as they say, is history.

What I loved about this workout was that each toning segment has its own little warm-up and cool-down, so I could break it up and work out whenever I had 10 minutes of time. When I was breastfeeding, especially in the first three months, that was often all I had time and energy for. (New moms in the group can probably relate to this--right?) Besides, I have this thing about floor exercise. I'd rather eat nails. Doing it in 10 minute increments--and with Madeleine and her crew suffering along with me--made it much more bearable. This tape was all I did for about 6 months post-partum before easing back into aerobics.

Madeleine is an excellent instructor--she cues well, provides just the right amount of encouragement, and best of all, is friendly without getting on your last nerve. Somebody get this woman in front of a camera again! I, too, recommend this as a great present for a new mom or mom-to-be. Put it in a pretty basket with some bubble bath and a gift certificate for free baby-sitting, and you'll be a shoo-in for Friend of the Year. . .

Grade: A+ and ten points extra credit

5-0 out of 5 stars Even good for a "never exercised" Mom with an 18 month old
I'm not exactly in the "post-pregnancy" stage, but, having never really done any serious exercising before, this tape sounded like it would be a good, safe starting point. The first day, I was dead tired - and that was only after the "preconditioning exercises" & about 5 minutes of the abs section. But I was determined and stuck with it...

Needless to say, I LOVE this tape (even if the music is cheesy). Madeline is an EXCELLENT instructor - gives good instructions and explains things; she lets you know when you're almost done (a key feature, in my opinion!!) The two other women that appear in the video don't say much, and to me, it's apparent that Madeline is trying desperately to get them involved... Ok by me that they just go about their business.

After a month and a half of use, I can get through the abs and buns segments, and most of the legs segment, and feel that I've accomplished something. Definitely a keeper!!! I use it on alternating days (on the other days, I use Leslie Sansone's Miracle Mile - which is also an excellent tape...)

4-0 out of 5 stars The burn is worth the rewards!
I could not believe how well this video works on the abs! I felt the burn immediately, and noticed that I was holding myself with better posture after the first workout. After having done the video only a few times, I can tell a difference already.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very useable video for a new mother
I love the way that this video is broken into 4 segments. It makes it possible for me to excercize regularly without feeling bad that I can not do an entire tape at one time.

The music gets annoying, but the excercizes themselves have really made a difference to the way my body looks! I am really glad that I bought this video! ... Read more

Maintaining your current fitness level is the goal in this upbeat pregnancy workout from the Buns of Steel series. Fitness expert Madeline Lewis (in her third trimester, no less) smiles and chatters her way through a 45-minute low-impact routine. But low-impact, quite obviously, is not Ms. Lewis's typical style. This high-energy workout should appeal to anyone who enjoys the quick-paced repetition of basic or step aerobics. Following a 10-minute warm-up, traditional moves such as the grapevine, heel tap, and V-step get the legs in motion while the arms attempt to keep up with busy choreography. Fifteen minutes of aerobic activity is followed by about 10 minutes of toning; a modest but effective amount of tucks, squats, and bun-burning exercises is included. Unlike The Kathy Smith Pregnancy Workout--an excellent and comprehensive if slightly tamer routine--Buns will make you break a sweat. Heart rate and "perceived exertion" checks help you determine when to slow down. --Liane Thomas ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My easiest delivery yet!
I recently gave birth to my third child. Although I remained active during my other two pregnancies, mainly by following a daily walking routine, this last pregnancy was the first time I actually worked out. I began using this video during my seventh month. I would alternate between several different pregnancy workout videos, inlcuding Kathy Smith's, Denise Austin's and an old one sanctioned by Dr. Art Ulene. Buns of Steel was certainly the most interesting and engaging workout video I found. Best yet, my delivery was by far the easiest and least complicated one I had ever experienced. I am completely convinced that the focus on strenghtening the pelvic floor muscles is the reason why I only pushed for 10 minutes, as opposed to the 2+ hours push-a-thons I experienced with my other two children! Plus, I recovered much more quickly this time around, and I know it is because I worked-out to this video every other day during my third trimester.

I think this video is wonderful, as I do the Buns of Steel post-pregnancy workout video I am currently following. I would strongly recommend it to any pregnant woman who is looking for a fun, relatively easy way to get into shape!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a video you need to get!
I really wanted to stay in shape during pregnancy and also wanted to get my shape back quickly, so I started exercising with this video in my second month of pregnancy. I exercised regularly, doing the video about 3-5 times a week, until I gave birth. My pregnancy went very smoothly and I felt great throughout. As soon as I gave birth (to a beautiful 8 lb. 12 oz. little boy) my stomach retracted very quickly. People constantly made, and continue to make comments to me, about how great I look--"didn't even look like I just had a baby." I could tell my body was quite toned as a result of doing all those ab and bun exercises. I am now doing the Buns of Steel Post Pregnancy Workout and am extremely pleased with the results. I cannot recommend these videos highly enough. If you really want to feel good during your pregnancy and regain your shape (for me, my shape is even better!) quickly after you have your baby, these videos are for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Product.
Not too tough, but does the trick. Good for 2nd and 3rd trimester. Too easy for 1st trimester.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good basic pregancy workout video
I would agree with many of the reviewers that this is not quite as good as Kathy Smith's pregnancy workout. However, it does provide a good basic pregnancy workout. It contains a warm up, followed by 3 aerobic songs, then a pretty good leg section (better than Kathy's) followed by some abdominal strengthening and a cool down. I worked out a lot before pregnancy and even though this may not be as challenging as I would like, I do it a couple of times a week for a change. It does energise and tone and keeps you feeling healthy and fit during pregnancy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
The moves can get to be pretty confusing & are just not challenging enough. Kathy Smith's is better. Also, the instructor has a very irritating rat-like voice that gives me the willies. She bugs too when she kept saying "double check time!" Ugh...overall it's ok but there are better ones out there. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars SQUEEZE
This series of workouts gives great results. You have to be dedicated, and do the series at least 5 or 6 days a week. It is important to follow the instructions and SQUEEZE, but it gives such a great workout. After having twins, I was seeing results (and starting to fit back into my old clothes!) in just a couple of weeks! I would also suggest the 8 min Abs tape, especially for new mothers!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Short but Tough Workout
This video is tougher than it appears. After 5 minutes of the buns section i am tired and wanting to quit, however, the burn is letting you know that you are working that all important Gluttis Maximus (according to Jamie Brenkus) The thighs part is quite abit simplier and is actually the same exact workout as the 8 minute legs. When the thighs portion comes on it actually says 8 minute legs. These 2 workouts are the same and i suggest buying this dual pack and saving your money instead of buying legs seperately.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good lower body workout!
As an avid walker/runner I still was in need of a good toning workout for my buns/thighs. I have done this video faithfully 6 days a week for the past 3 weeks and can now really see and feel a difference. I have now added ankle weights to increase the difficultly. Some may find the buns workout boring as there are only three basic moves, but how much variety can you expect in just 8 minutes? I highly recommend this video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Saw results fast!!
I hate to exercise because noramlly it takes awhile to see any results! With this tape I saw results in about a week and felt them the first day!

4-0 out of 5 stars Requires More Commitment
It was only because I saw such great results from the "8 Minute Abs" video that I could really come through with the level of commitment I needed to make this tape work. I mean, for some reason this took alot longer for me to get with the program. It's not so simple as the "New Sex Now" or "Goddess Worship" videos, where you just watch it once and you pretty much get it. With this program you gotta watch the tape every single time, and follow along with the guy doing the stuff. And while it is fun to do that with the Goddess Worship video too, it's a different kinda viewing experience... though still highly enriching. Anyway, the point is that you gotta put these techniques into action, every single day, and practice this stuff so it pays off -- since there's no sense just watching tapes like these just once and continuing to feel fat. ... This Stott Pilates video is excellent for basics of pilates. Moira Stott offers clear instruction for every abdominal exercise. When starting out, most people don't realize how crucial proper technique is, and Moira Stott gives detailed explanations of each movement without being too complicated or wordy. This video is fun, and most importantly, I've lost inches in my abdominal area by using it just a few times a week. 5-0 out of 5 stars My Favourite Workout
I love this workout. The look of the tape changed, and I had lost my first copy and thought I wouldn't find it again, but here it is. I have lost wieght, and gained muscle and slim shape with this workout. For graduation from university, I wanted to wear a tight lycra dress and this tape gave me the shape to wear my dress with nothing dragging behind! Thank you Tamilee!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST!!
I have at least 20 exercise videos and not too much time to work out, and this one is TOPS. This video is short, intense, SAFE for my bad knees, and extremely effective. Be ready to have to increase your protein intake after doing this one a few times, because it'll really work your muscles. I just wore out my original video and have ordered two more before it's no longer available. You'll feel ALOT stronger and have better posture for having done it. I can't recommend it enough. Good luck! Nita

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a fan.
I love the buns of steel series. I work out to them 5 days a week! However I was very disappointed with this video. It is the same format as the original but without the step. She even messes up a few times and is hard to follow. My suggestion is buy the advanced and just do it without the step. Then when you are ready to add a step you can. With this video once you master the basics it's tough to bump it up a level.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hurts so good
I love this tape. Tamilee is one of my favorite instructors. In this tape there are plenty of lunges and squats--with my favorite and most effective exercise,(besides reverse lunges) the one-legged squat. What I truly like about this tape is that at the end of the workout she demonstrates how to increase resistance with the use of rubber bands and weights. Get this tape and be ready for one workout of a lifetime.

5-0 out of 5 stars One Heck Of A Workout
Well, I purchased this tape on a recommendation and did it yesterday morning for the first time. I'm an intermediate exerciser and I found it a tough workout. This morning I woke up and I could barely move. Every muscle in my by lower body is aching (especially the buns - it really hurts to sit down!). I highly recommend this tape. Tamilee Webb is a very good instructor, and outlines in advance the correct posture for the exercises. I also like the fact that Tamilee is the only instructor and there are no prancing people in the background in fake smiles. Full marks for one heck of a lower body workout. I highly recommend it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Workout Video
Probably the best workout video I own. The variation of exercises in the 8 minutes of each featured workout makes the time fly yet you feel the burn. When I first started, I thought how will I ever be able to do this? With determination, in 3 short weeks I wear 10 pound ankle weights to keep the resistance up. I would have never believed how fast this workout would have toned anyone up. As other reviews state, you can feel the tightness in your jeans and see the 6 pack in the tee shirt. Highly recommend!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not recommended
I was surprised to find that there is only one 8 minute workout on each tape, unlike the Abs of Steel tapes which contain 3 workouts to rotate. The actual content of the tapes varied. The moves on the abs tape were customary and effective, although after doing the same routine daily for a while it would likely lose its impact. The buns video was not as effective and terribly hard on the knees. I had concerns about the form and discontinued doing it to be on the safe side. Both tapes are extremely fast paced and it is important to move at your own speed so that your moves are done safely and properly. Don't try to keep up with the host, he moves much too quickly.

Overall, I dont recommend this film. The abs of steel series are a better value with more diverse workouts, and some quick biking will do the backside more good than 8 minute buns.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Workouts!
If you're new to weights and/or exercise, if you're overweight or out of shape, if you have a physical challenge, or if you just want something quick and effective to tone your arms and buns, this is an excellent video.

You'll get a very effective upper body workout with the arms part. It is, admittedly, a bit short. I find I don't always get more than 8 reps in the one set. That's not really enough for most people. But if you use a five pound weight at least and do this twice a week, you'll firm up. And remember, you can use this as a nice start for another set or two with heavier weights on your own if you like.

This is a no-nonsense workout. It's well presented and timed. It's not for everyone. But it is effective if it fits your needs and time constraints. I suggest you warm up for about five minutes before you do either or both of these workouts.

The buns workout is very good and effective too. If you have bad knees, you may want to adjust some of the exercises like the deep knee lunge. Know your limits and work within them. But if you do these exercises, you'll slim down.

I suggest you do either or both of these twice a week if you can.

    I highly recommend this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars How 8 Minute Workouts Helped Me
I had a baby in April of 2001, and I was up to 192 pounds (also i'm only 5'3!),so I tried the ab roller thing and other stuff and it didn't really do much for me. I mean I lost some weight, but I didn't get the results I wanted. In July of 2002, My mom bought me the 8 Minute Workout tapes so I started doing it and I got results so fast it amazed me!! I was a size 12, now I'm a size 7 and I weigh 118 pounds!!! I never thought it would worked but I was proved wrong. ... Read more

You know step aerobic workouts are great fat burners, but did you realize how well they define and sculpt the lower-body muscles? This superb 50-minute workout is one of Kathy Smith's best. She uses the step positioned perpendicular to the TV, so rather than the usual up-up-down-down moves, you're stepping up from the side and lifting the other leg, or going over the top. This workout is divided into three parts. After a 6-minute workout, segment 1 (16 minutes) builds muscle endurance with an aerobic workout using moves that focus on the thigh and buttock muscles. The routine is intense and athletic, with no dance moves or complicated arm work. Smith includes some optional plyometric (jumping) moves. Segment 2 (10 minutes) uses intense, standing exercises to strengthen and shape the buttocks and thighs, such as squats straddling the step and lunges with one foot on the step. Segment 3 (10 minutes) uses high-intensity isolation exercises, similar to traditional floor work with some innovative additions, weights optional. Then a 5-minute cool down lets your muscles stretch and recover. If you want to challenge and sculpt your lower body and get your aerobic workout at the same time, this could become your favorite tape! --Joan Price ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Less Jumpin' Around, More Squatin' Down!
This is the third Kathy Smith video I've tried and, like the others, I easily jumped right into the workout from the first playing thanks to Kathy's very clear and precise instructions. This video has the same set and most of the cast from Kathy's "Step Workout" video. Like her other videos, this workout includes a warmup (8 minutes), a workout divided into three segments (total of 36 minutes), and a cool down (5 minutes). Unlike her other videos where you switch the placement of the step from a horizontal placement to a vertical one at the third segment, all segments in this workout use a vertical step placement. The first segment has the most aerobics. It is also the longest segment (16 minutes) but is not difficult. It's over before you know it. I found myself adding a lot of propulsion to the moves (airborne moves) to bring more exertion to the workout. The second segment (10 minutes) includes a lot of squats and leg raises. I have a troubled left knee, but I was able to do all the movements without aggravating it. There are a few moves she uses in this segment that I've never seen before (stepping with one foot on the step and the other on the floor, for instance). The final segment is all leg raises on the floor. There is not a lot of jumping around in this video as there is in the other two step videos I have (Kathy's "Step Workout" and "Power Step"). This video is a nice addition to my step aerobics rotation for days I don't feel like jumping around and would rather concentrate on intense thigh and bun work. The music is a little more "hip" in this workout (R&B with a little bit of rap even). It maight also be helpful to note that this video has two different covers offered on amazon (they have the same title), so don't buy them thinking they are different workouts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good workout, but needs different music
I purchased this video a couple years ago; dismayed by a weight gain since getting married. The video sat in a cabinet until three months ago, when I actually pulled it out and started using it 2-4 times a week. Using the video, taking quick 20 minute walks a couple times a week and watching what I ate a little more carefully has dropped me two pants sizes.

I'm not bored with the moves yet, simply because I can feel the results from them. And I have yet to use a step with this workout, but I began this tape as an out of shape beginner. I am, however, extremely bored with the music. It starts off all right, with a good beat but I need the music to STAY upbeat throughout the entire main workout, or I start to slow down and slack off. Not only does the music taper off, but I find it very annoying as well.

Overall; I feel good and worked out by the end of this video, even without the step. As I progress into better shape, this may not be the case. But I would certainly recommend this video to someone wishing to shape up their lower body.

5-0 out of 5 stars burn baby burn
this is one heck of a thigh-toning, butt-toning, high stepping workout! From get go to get gone the moves make you aware of every muscle that is working. A little difficult to follow at first but hang with it and in no time you flow right along. Two thumbs way up!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed!
This is my first Kathy Smith video. The workout is challenging, yet easy to follow. She gives great cues. I never got lost. You can follow her if you are more advance or follow another group if you are a beginner. In the past, I have always done step at the gym. Kathy's workout is by far the best step workout that I've ever done. I also like the leg workout at the end. She really targets the inner thigh, which most trainers seem to overlook or just barely touch on. A definite must have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Get It If You Don't Want To Work!!
I own several of Kathy Smith's videos, and love them all. She uses steps that are easy to learn, but she really works you hard. This video is no exception! The moves are simple. Most people can probably pick them up the first time through. However, you will really get a good, challenging workout with those moves. I am in pretty good shape since I have been working out regularly for a few years. But there are still days that I do this video and wonder if I will make it all the way through. Beginners may have to work up to doing all the segments. Once you finish the workout you feel pleasantly fatigued and feel a sense of accomplishment. Using the tape over a period of time really brings noticible results too. I highly recommend this video, as well as the whole Kathy Smith line, for people who don't want to learn a bunch of fancy moves, but really want a good workout. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tamilee Webb is back in black
    ...

ABS OF STEEL PART TWO will challenge users of Tamilee Webb's first ABS OF STEEL without going too far. This time it's two 15-minute workouts instead of three 10-minute workouts. Either way, you get measurable results for just 10 or 15 minutes a day....

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ab video!!
This video has 2 15-minute workouts. It has ab work followed by push-ups. The exercises are very intense. Tamilee gives alternate movements depending on your level of fitness. This video is very challenging with quick results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally something that REALLY works!
I owned this version of Abs of Steel years ago and it really worked. I would LOVE to re-order this tape, but it is currently not being released. How can I get this tape?

4-0 out of 5 stars Challenging
The video has two fifteen minute workouts. The first workout mostly deals with the upper and lower abdominals and includes 3 different sets of pushups in between segments of the ab workout. The second workout mostly centers on the oblique muscles with 2 different sets of pushups in between segments. These workouts made me quite sore the first time I did them and they are still a challenge. The only complaint I have is that the video only contains 2 different workouts (not much variety for those of us who want to work our abs more than twice a week!). The music is not that great either. However, this video is worth purchasing if you can find it!

5-0 out of 5 stars It may be trite, but it's true: Amazingly fast results
Of all of Tamilee's videos I've exercized to, this THE ONE that actually seemed to make my abs fall in line like I wanted them to. I saw major results (the waist in my shorts went from tight to loose) in two days, and I wasn't dieting!! I happened to first use the video when I visited a friend for a couple of weeks. Now she's lost it and I've been trying to get a copy for myself ever since. The routine had such dramatic results that I actually WANTED to do the video every day...and I am the least motivated exercizer I know. This is the only ab video that actually made me say "Wow, it really works!" ... Read more

Rodney Yee leads Abs Yoga for Beginners from the serene Death Valley. The gentle sands of the desert lend to the calming mood of Yee's supple movements, which are designed to firm and strengthen your abs while providing a soothing respite from your hectic lifestyle. Beginning with 4 minutes of conscious breathing, moving into 13 minutes of abs yoga workout, and ending with 3 minutes of deep relaxation, the tape is an introduction to yoga for those who would like the added benefit of targeting their abdominal regions. The poses are, for the most part, simple to follow, although the beginner may need to ease into some of the positions; lowering straight legs to the ground is challenging, but of course, as in all of Living Arts yoga tapes, you are encouraged to move at your own speed. A blanket to sit on is required. --Jenny Brown ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A different kind of ab workout--no crunches necessary!
This tape was my first introduction to yoga; I had absolutely NO experience with yoga prior to purchasing this video. Although it doesn't involve many traditional yoga poses, the exercises flow together in a way that is unique to yoga. When I first tried this tape, I wasn't quite sure when the warm-up ended and the "real" workout began--the transition was that smooth and gentle.

The workout begins in a seated position and focuses on breathing, then moves on to hands and knees for a back stretch (Cat pose). The majority of the workout is performed lying on your back, where you will do simple yet challenging leg extensions and twists to challenge the abdominal area. After a quick rise to a standing position, the workout returns to the floor to end with lying relaxation poses.

The moves become gradually more difficult, but I think that most beginners will be able to perform the majority of this workout. I believe that this workout has helped me to developed stronger abs (though I haven't seen the miracle-like results that other reviewers have mentioned). Rodney Yee is a wonderful instructor--he has a calming voice, his instructions are clear and precise, and he is not overly "new age-y." I would definitely recommend this tape for anyone looking to exercise their abs wi
