5-0 out of 5 stars The Plot Thickens--and Clothing Thins!
The premise of the series is that three unwitting travelers from this world land, with their tank (yes, a tank), in a magickal world populated with humans and elves. When Celcia, high elfin priestes, tries to return them to their world, she is distracted, the spell quinsects, and now the spell appears as tattoos on the skin of 5 elves somewhere in the land. The trio, along with a dog-shaped Celcia in disguise, are now known as "Those Who Hunt Elves," as they strip every elf they can find in order to bring back the spell. The vocal cast is superlative: Jessica Calvello ("Cutey Honey") as Celcia is in high dudgeon over the sarcastic abuse of Jyunpei, played by talented newcomer Andrew Klimko. Street-smart award-winning actres Airi (Kelly Manison)gets to knock out such great lines as "She'll be all over us like a cheap actress at a producer's convention," yet never cease acting like a lady. And Rozanne (Rozie) Curtis' portrayal of the young Ritsuko is perfection--a sort of precocious Vulcan in a gym skirt. The humor across the first four episodes (this tape has episodes 3 and 4) is sharp, quick, and delivered with great glee--these guys had way too much fun making this show. An intelligent, funny, altogether great bit of dubbed anime. Kudos to the stars and a special appreciation to writer/director Tristan MacAvery (Ushio & Tora) for a terrific job. ... Read more

This is a great movie! In the first episode, Arie teaches an elf to dance so she can go to a ball. It has a funny twist though. In the second episode, an elf turns up who has armor that will not come off. Her grandpa ,who lives with her, is the funniest elf I have ever seen. 5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Funniest I've Seen Yet....
This series is a MUST HAVE for those people who like a lot of comedy in their anime! The plot is pretty typical of the usual japanimation ongoing type "Gotta Catch'em All" jazz, but FUUUNNYY! The five characters must find the remaining missing spell fragments found on the bodies of elves by Stripping them, and yet the only real "Not For Kids" deal about this anime is the Extreme Adult Language used which suprised me since the plot is pretty kiddyish,(apart frome the stripping). But even that adds to the coolness, humor and uniqueness of this series! CHECK IT OUT! ... Read more

Osamu Tezuka based Kimba on his popular comic strip, "Jungle Emperor." It was the first color Japanese series to air in the U.S. when it debuted in 1966.

Kimba is born on a ship taking his mother to a European zoo. When theship sinks, Kimba swims back to Africa, where he's hailed as the successor tohis father, Caesar. With the help of his friends Dan'l Baboon and PauleyCracker, a loudmouth parrot, Kimba protects all the animals. He insists onfair play, honesty, and trying one's best, sometimes to the point ofpriggishness. Kimba--who is, improbably, a vegetarian--organizes the plantingof a communal garden to provide food during droughts in "Jungle Thief."Samson the Cape buffalo challenges Kimba's democratic ideas in "GreatCaesar's Ghost." Dan'l and Pauley put on the rug made out of Caesar's skinand pose as his ghost in this very odd episode.

The animation is extremely limited, even by the undemanding standards of'60s TV cartoons. Kimba's oversized round head, large eyes, and huge ears lookcute rather than feline, and may appeal to very small children. Kids over8 will quickly grow impatient with the slow pacing and lack of action. For ages 3 and up; animals occasionally engage in mild cartoon fights. --Charles Solomon ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars My childhood revisited, and my 3-1/2 yr. old loves it too
Seeing Kimba again after 30 or so years is really something special, and will be for anyone who watched it way back when. Bought the video for my daughter and it became her favorite over all the Disney videos we have! Bought a second Kimba (DISASTER!) and she loves that one too... OK, the animation pales compared to today's, but the morality tales packed into each of the short stories, the fast pace, the personalities of the animals, etc. make it worthwhile watching. (Wait til your kids start singing, "who lives down in deepest darkest Africa"...... ). Enjoy it while its available!

4-0 out of 5 stars Original story, but old techniques
I remember this series since I was 5 or 6. It left me pleasant memories and a story of a good young lion that was a role model for me, even if I'm not a vegetarian.
I bought if for my daughter of 2. After the spectacular images of A bug's life and Lion King, at the beginning she snobbed Kimba the White lion, whose pictures are now a little bit disappointing and outdated. However, Kimba is a hero and the story is too strong that overcomes the age and wrinkles of the film. Apart from the first episode, where the authors hadn't kids in mind while writing the script, the following episodes are more digestible for a kid slightly older than 2.
I give a four stars for the sound which is old and it's not clear whether it is the tape or something else. Moreover, if you love special effects, Kimba is a bit too primitive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its just that good
Considering this show is reaching its 40th birthday, it is really good. The animation surpasses most made by americans at the time. Considering there's only 4 voice actors, the voices are still good. And there's no cheesy parts at all. The stories (like most anime)seems carefully thought out. A must for any anime fan at any age.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Origional!
Great tape! My 5 year old son loves to watch Kimba. I regret that I hesitated buying this tape because of the other persons review. This tape brings back great memories, for all of us who were born around 1960. The shows on the tape are the earlier ones of kimba. The soundtrack and dialogue is just as I remembered it. It's a very simplistic cartoon by todays standards but, my kids and I still enjoy it. Kimba teaches kids and reminds adults the value of morals and doing what's right.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kids will like it. Fans will hate it.
Im not saying that people who loved the show on NBC will like it. Im saying that fans of the director will hate it. First off, the dub is a little dry with only two voice actors who do the voices of the animals. Second, in the NBC version the episodes are all mixed up. So when you think you are seeing episodes 1-4, your actually seeing a group of episodes that don't match up in order. Anyway, I like the show and I think kids and adults should see it. Its an anime you can put right on the shelf next to Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service. I only wished that the director could have lived to see the Lion King, but then again, he must have been turning in his grave when it came out. Still, if your looking for family anime in a anime market overcrowded with mecha and super powers, pick this one up. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Tennis playing Cyborg out for renenge!
Yes, this is a totally blatant B-grade Japanese rip off of Robocop. It just also happens to be quite unintentionally funny. But really the only things that have been ripped off the American version is the cyborg suit, and the revenge theme. Everything else is pretty original, if a little half-baked.

The Tokyo underworld is being overrun and monopolised by a group named the "Karuta Cartel". Their four person hit squad (who roam around in olive late 80's Toyota van) called "Phantom Team", deliver swift punishment to those who don't toe in the line in the form of deadly firepower and unintelligible English.

We then meet Kaoru Mikoshiba, who is a successful professional tennis player, and we can tell by the shots of her, and early scenes she's in, something bloody awful is going to happen to her. Sure enough as her boyfriend goes to her work, Phantom Team invade the lab which is about to produce a prototype of a cyborg cop. As the police seem pretty ineffectual to this woeful band of terrorists, they know the cyborg cop will kick their butts, and proceed to do away with the scientists in a very violent manner. Kaoru gets caught up in this (somehow), and is shot by the token "evil" African American team member (with bad English dialogue included). Her boyfriend also gets shot, be he somehow manages to escape with her and rebuild her as a cyborg, as the building explodes into smithereens.

Meanwhile renegade cop Saijo, decides to rough up the bartender as a local bar, because he may have something to do with the cartel. Team Phantom don't like police brutality and decide to take him out. That's when (finally after 30 minutes) Lady Battle Cop (hold on, she's not a cop, she's a tennis player...) appears to extract her revenge. She saves the cop, but only kills one of bad dudes. A really muscly and ugly westerner with super powers stops her with his psychic powers (i.e. throwing her around by thought, not by bending spoons). Of course this guy was stolen by the Cartel from NASA, and in an earlier scene, demonstrates his power by destroying a rose in a glass vase (how terrifying).
Anyway, Lady Battle Cop is out to kill all the members of Team Phantom, and the cartel leader with the help of Saijo. Does she succeed? What do you think?

There are some really funny and just plain dumb scenes in this film. I won't explain them all, because I'll just spoil the film. The acting is woeful, the special effects incredibly bad, but best of all is the English dialogue spoken by the Japanese actors peppered throughout the movie. It's truly funny. Some of it requires English subtitles, as the accents are incredibly thick.

Overall, I loved this B-grader. It was action all the way though, but took too long to get to the title character. Thank god ADV has released a subtitled version, because as I've mentioned before, the English dialogue from the Japanese actors is utterly hilarious. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Incoherent Yet Entertaining
Most of the episodes in this series were humorous and entertaining, yet when you have a collection with many episodes, you would think each one would build on what the other showed which wasn't the case in Devil Hunter Yohko. Each episode presented different stories and introduced random characters who were supposed to serve as main characters with a great say in how the episodes played out, but weren't able to do so since they weren't portrayed all throughout the series. The humor in this series is specifically geared towards adults as it consists of an abundance of nudity and fowl language that most parents wouldn't find suitable for children. Overall, there was a fair amount of action and gore in every episode, though I would be a little hesitant to list it in the horror genre. Devil Hunter Yohko uses ideas of both Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Sailor Moon to present its theme and purpose for Yohko being a devil hunter. Also, this series does not consist of 6 episodes but rather 5. The 4th episode is merely a music video collection about the series as a whole, yet the story still ends as it should and does not leave the viewer hanging. The 2 DVD's as a whole consist of both dubbed and subtitled versions of all the episodes, a few music videos concerning the series, and a wide array of trailors in the separate disk by AVD Films. The clarity of the picture is superb and very impressive. In sum, if you're looking for a decent anime with interesting action scenes, an interesting plot, and loads of humor, then by all means check Devil Hunter Yohko out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Loved it, and you might, too
Devil Hunter Yohko starts out as the lighthearted tale of an average teenage girl. Very rapidly we learn that she's not so average after all. Namely, she's so desperate to lose her virginity she'll go to bed with the first cute guy willing to pay for a hotel room. This is actually a pretty interesting situation of role-reversal. If it were a boy who wanted sex so bad he'd sleep with any willing female, no one would think twice about it. Since it's a girl, though, it seems strange and funny and sexy.

Of course, with a title like that you know there's more to it than the normal anime romantic hijinks. Yohko finds out she can't have sex without putting the world in jeopardy from invading demons. This sets up another role-reversal, when she must save a boy from a marauding female demon.

I couldn't honestly say whether a girl would like this anime or not. I think most girls would like Yohko, but there is some gratuitous nudity. Of course, most guys will like this. The video is funny and the action is decent. I recommend that you at least check out this first tape.

4-0 out of 5 stars Devil Hunter Yohko is Anime Excellence
I disagree with the Amazon editorial review. Devil Hunter Yohko, or in its original name, Mamoto Hunter Yohko, is anime that is anything but silly. As a female anime fan, I found it empowering. I don't feel the nudity is gratuitous. Part of the story concerns Yohko coming to terms with her sexuality, and later claiming it, as well as the mantle of Demon Hunter. We all make the choice (hopefully it is not forced on us) as when and how to engage in sexual activity for the first time. When is the right time? Who is the right person? And what are the consequences of our choices? These are all questions that young women deal with every day. Yohko's choices and near-mistakes are as serious as the ones we make.

Philosopy aside, this is vastly entertaining. The series has engaging characters whom most of us can recognize in our own lives. I agree with the reviewer who said Yohko's grandmother is her favorite. Yohko's devotion to her Obasan is touching. Other great characters include Yohko's flaky but caring mother, Yohko's best friend, and a nerdy boy at school.

Overall, this DVD retains an innocent and noble quality despite a few blatantly sexual scenes. It is noble because of the good versus evil story, and boy, this is some serious evil. You will be on the edge of your seat cheering for Yohko. This is an anime made with love, and one for the ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gotta love it
Devil Hunter Yohko is great. I love all of the characters. Especially Yohko's grandmother. She's just great. My favorite sceen is when Yohko's mom and grandmother are battling it out over breakfast. That alone makes it worth the cost. It's just too funny. Anyways back to the review. Devil Hunter Yohko is a story about a young girl who is destinted to become a devil hunter. In this DVD set she comes into her powers, fights a demon queen, meets 2 totally hot guys, saves ones girlfriend, and gets an apprentice. I wish there were more than two DVD sets. This is one show that should have been continued.

5-0 out of 5 stars The 107th Devil Hunter
yohko was your average 16 year old girl when at the pool a demon attacks her and ataveates her powers. Her grandmother explanes about how she is the 107th devil hunter and how her job is to banish demon's.Know she must face the Queen of demon's can she beat her or well she die trying? 5-0 out of 5 stars race against time
In this last tape, Those who hunt elves must find the last 3 spell fragments in order to get back to Japan. This is getting increasingly difficult however, because the entire elf nation is becoming so irate that their mission is in danger of being quelched at any moment. The second episode on the tape draws to a close with the elf hunters being put to trial, including their little dog/priestess, and still without all the spell fragments! If you want to find out more, you'll have to watch it.

This tape is an absolutely hilarious ending to this irreverently funny series.

There is some pretty strong language, especially from the elves, but there is no real nudity in any of the tapes (you see alot of bare backs and shredded clothes still covering everything necessary), so those fearing the series might be somewhat pornographic need not worry. Those looking for a serious anime plot aren't going to find it here, but if someone's looking for something inescapable funny to watch for the next couple days, this is it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All hail Mike the TV
It took the better part of a decade to make the four seasons of ReBoot, and it was a decade which saw breathtaking changes in computer graphics technology.

This early episode is charming for many reasons...the great characters, the witty writing, the innocent enthusiasm of Mike the TV. But if you were lucky enough to remember watching ReBoot when it first aired (as I do), it's fun to recall that this episode represented what was, at the time, the pinnacle of cgi. The show, like the technology, sure came a long way.

ReBoot was the first--and, by the way, the best--computer animated television series.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like D&D style games, this is a perfect spoof.
This was one on my favorite episodes for two reasons. One, it made fun of the D&D style computer games on the market. Two, Mike the T.V. had a bigger role than in some of the other episodes. The two mixed together was hilarious.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't let this one be the first episode of Reboot you see...
Don't get me wrong, I love the TV show Reboot, but this episode was stupid and rediculous, it seemed like the producers were just try to take up time by making this episode... If you want to see a good episode, watch the Medusa bug, that one it much better.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great episode in a wonderful series
This was the first episode I ever caught of the series called "ReBoot" back in the mid-90's. The first thing that caught my eye was the fact that the entire series was computer generated (the first computer generated series ever, actually). Being a professional digital animator, I was of course intrigued by the idea of a weekly children's series done digitally. But I soon became engrossed in the plot of this clever series, which I discovered was not really created entirely for children (the intricate plots, in-jokes, sight-gags, and pop culture references are obviously aimed at more mature audiences). I became a fan for the entire U.S. run (two seasons, though a third aired in Canada where the series originated...and was eventually broadcast here on the Cartoon Network).

The series takes place in the world within the computer, with its lead characters defending their very lives against the "user" when games are downloaded into their midst. When a game arrives, the characters "Re-boot" themselves to take on characteristics of the game environment (thus the name of the series).

In this particular episode our heroes are subjected to a multi-level wizards and warriors-type game. The added catch on this outing is the inclusion of "Mike The T.V." a character known to irritate and cause havoc around our lead characters with his ongoing "Newscasts" of all actions going on around him. How they get out of the situation and complete the game is interesting and fun! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Kind of a let down
After watching the first two chapters of this series, I was looking forward to this third one, but although it was pretty good, the story lines just couldn't compare with the episodes from the first two tapes.

The banter among the characters was still good, and there were some good lines, and the potential was still there, but it just wasn't fully realized this time. Unfortunately, that's what sometimes happens in a series, the middle episodes sometimes start to bog down the series as the writers struggle to keep the storylines fresh. Still, there is hope, and I'm optimistic about seeing the next episodes, and hoping that they can pick the pace back up.

The first story on this tape, while having a slight charm, doesn't really explain enough about what's going on. Some cat like spirit, we are told, is possessing stuffed animals, and slowly destroying a town, although not maliciously. How or where this spirit came from is never explained, and what was going to happen, and where it was going to finally end up was just too much of a dead giveaway. I had it figured out about ten minutes into the episode, which really isn't a good thing. The second episode was a bit better, at least it finally explained just how the trio managed to end up in this parallel world where magic and elves exist. I thought it got just a little too mean spirited though, where the elf is set afloat down the river, tied naked to a log. That's only my opinion though, you may want to check the video out and see for yourself.

Still, I look forward to the next volume, and hope that the lightheartedness of the earlier episodes comes back.

4-0 out of 5 stars There r better DBZ videos
This video was mainly on how the z fighters prepare for the coming of the cell games. Goku shows off his power when he and gohan come out of the chamber. Cell makes his broadcast and creates the ring and thats pretty much it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I love dragonball z. This is grat and if you are a fan you should buy it.

3-0 out of 5 stars The start of another filler portion
This tape starts the filler episodes in which the Z fighters have ten days to prepare for the Cell Games.

Content: C+
Animation: B+
Music: B (dub)
English Version: B
Fight Scenes: C

Well, I can't really say this is a highlight of DBZ. Probably the only good points are when Cell makes his declaration of the Tournament. We also get to see the first appearence of Mister Satan (a.k.a. Hercule). In this volume, Goku finally meets the completed Cell and Gohan meets a girl named Lime. There is also the return of Goku's old nemesis General Tao. These episodes are basically character development episodes. But if you want to watch a show about martial arts and action, what the point of these episodes? Did the writers get tired? Anyway, I would recommend buying this tape, but than wait for the Cell games to actually start for the next volume.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Episodes ever!
I think that these episodes are the best because even though there isn't any fighting in it, without these episodes you wouldn't understand what was going on. I think the best bits are when you see Goku and Gohan in the hyperbolic time chamber training to defeat Cell because when you see Gohan in his Supersaiyan form and with his hair cut there is no other word for him but COOL. I don't like the bits when they put in too much detail e.g. the episode 'A girl called Lime'. I tell you what really annoys me as well ? It's that Hercule guy. He just wants to make me puke. I mean does he realise the true power of Cell? If I did I would run a mile! Anyway, I still that these episodes are the best because this is when you first realise the true potential of Gohan's amazing power that is hidden within ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars X-Treme Old School High School!
Look on just about any anime fan's list of must-own classics, and this one'll show up on almost every one of them. "Project A-ko" is one of the most well-done anime feature films of all time. While the story is about two high-school girls who end up fighting over the "affections" of another young girl (you think that's weird, wait'll you see the rest of this movie) while their city is in the midst of an alien invasion, this film was made mostly as a spoof of just about every other anime of its time in Japan. Parodies of and references to characters from everything from Captain Harlock to Macross to Space Battleship Yamato (Starblazers) to Fist of the North Star show up in nearly every single scene, and it not only makes for wide grins and pointing fingers from otaku everywhere, but it also fits into this crazy flick like a glove. Some of the rip-offs are pretty blatant (like the alien mothership; when you see it I'll give you three guesses to what it looks like), but hey, that's the point! Aside from all that, this is one of those anime that simply has it all; cute girls in sailor suits, giant robots, aliens, almost-nonstop smash-mouth fighting action, and laughs aplenty. The animation for its time is unparalleled; silky-smooth with theater-quality fluidity. The soundtrack, a rocking set of themes that keeps right up with the action, was put together entirely by Americans (the first of its kind!) and produced by the legendary Ritchie Zito (producer for Cheap Trick). The dubbing's even great, even if it deviates from the original dialogue a bit. Folks, if you haven't seen this film yet for some reason, you don't know what you're missing. It's a wonderful ride.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie with good satirical qualities
This anime is very comedic and is often viewed as a satire of all anime up to that time. However, it does have a plot of its own.

The main setting is an all-girls school where the heroine, A-ko, and her best friend, C-ko, is confronted by B-ko who wishes to break up their friendship and take C-ko for herself. Each main character has her own unique qualities, A-ko is super strong, B-ko is rich and a brilliant engineer, and C-ko is extremely cute (through the eyes of the characters). B-ko uses all her resources and goes to extreme measures to try and achieve her goal. This provides for some great action and comedic scenes. Meanwhile, there's another unknown menace that threatens them all.... Definitely, a great movie to watch.

This is the first movie in the series of six Project A-ko movies. I am glad to have it on DVD because it is bilingual, and it is like owning both VHS copies (subtitled and dubbed) in one package.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun anime movie!
A 16 year old redhead babe named " A-Ko" has superhuman powers and has many adventures in the big city including challenging her rival "B-ko" to have "C-Ko" for best friend, battle tough gals and male-like female aliens from space.
A very good, hilarious, action packed and wacky anime spoof with good laughs, neat ideas and parodies of anime such as " Fist of the North Star", it's a leave your brain at the door anime with fine artwork and hot toon chicks.
Also recommended: Fist of the North Star, Dragonball Z Movie Trilogy, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, The Professional: Golgo 13, Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll, Millienium Actress, Bio-Hunter, Wicked City, Demon City Shinjuku, Sailor Moon Movie Trilogy, Ranma 1/2, Kill Bill.

3-0 out of 5 stars Didn't feel like A-KO
All things considered this one is probably better than the first one. I just had one problem, different voices. Most of the voices on this one are probably best known for their roles in Ranma 1/2. Venus Terzo (girl-type Ranma) really didn't make a good B-KO I thought. C-KO, who's always been a bit annoying, is played by the actor who plays Shampoo on Ranma, which her high pitch voice adds to the annoyment. But worst yet, the captain from the first A-KO, who I thought was a man, is really a woman.
Scott Mcneil did a good job playing him/her, except when he sings. If you watch the Japanese version then everything's the same. I would recommend checking it out if you're a big A-KO fan.

2-0 out of 5 stars NOOOOOOOO
WHAT DID THEY DO TO THIS POOR MOVIE?! Is it just me or did the, uh, "remastering" process turn this great film into a nearly unwatchable mess? All the colors in this film are very "washed out" almost "bleached" so that all colors tend towards a white "glare" look. All in all, a pathetic job in touching up one of the better anime satire movies around. This movie shouldn't have been given to some lackluster video company who was obviously indifferent as to the results of their process (just watch the "remastering" part of the DVD - the man seems to take no interest in the film he was paid to touch up). This is one of those few anime classics that deserve a full treatment - ideally, not only a modern video filter but also a conversion to digital that would allow modern animators to touch up the animation directly frame by frame- thus making colors vibrant, smooth, beautiful and characters sharp and distinct. The only reason to buy this is for the free soundtrack that is included. Other than that, expect a seriously marred and flawed version of an anime classic. Ouch. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Difinitely the Finest Movie You Could Add to Your Collection
I have seen a lot of anime before but none so compelling as the story seen in Macross Plus: the Movie. The animation is top notch, the characters both believable and real, and it includes an absolutely fabulous soundtrack. Outside of the normal Robotech/Macross continium, this story focuses on the relationship between three child hood friends and how by some trick of fate end up together again on Planet Eden. Pilots Isamu Dyson and Guld Goa Bowman are rivals in the competition between the selection of the new fleet fighter jet, The Y-19 and the Y-21, while their third childhood friend Myung arrives on planet as the "producer" of hit singer/computer Sharon Apple. We start the movie knowing almost nothing about the charachters and as the movie progresses we find ourselves caring for the characters and the relation ship they had as children that was abruptly destroyed. The characters grow, learn, remember, regret and forgive each other over the span of two hours in one of the most moving story lines I have ever seen. It is of rare quality to find this in a movie where they also have a titanic struggle in transforming jets and super dimensional fortresses that can rise out of the ground. This movie is a Definite Buy in my book because you will only learn to appreciate it more with more veiwings. This movie has the capacity to make you yell and cheer in triumph as well breakdown in tears of both joy and sadness. The action in the movie is just as compelling as the story. An aerial ballet of rare form takes place through several junctions throughout the movie between the jets and the pilots who fly them. The bangs are well worth the buck.

A movie of joy and sadness, of old wounds and fond remembrances, of tender soul searching and heart pounding action, Macross Plus in not a movie to be missed by ANY movie fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the premier Animes you will ever experience.
I consider Macross Plus as one of the premier Animes, because of its quality in areas that count the most; graphics, story, and music.

The graphics is truly amazing and beautiful, some being integrated with computer generated images. Story is very deep and thoughtful, quite engaging even for older audience because of its mature theme. The soundtrack to this anime consists of techno style to classical style music, and does exceptional job setting the mood.

The Macross Plus originally came out as 4 part series, and later as this version, Macross Plus: The Movie. Macross Plus: The Movie is definitely worth watching, even for those who have seen the 4 Part series, because this version is differently edited and has a different flow to it. It was a pleasant surprise to see this version, because I was expecting a mere shortened version of the longer 4 part series, which runs about 160 minutes overall.

It really felt like watching a new movie, not only because of the different editing, but also due to the extra footages that were not included in earlier 4 Part series. Those extra footage alone, is a real treat because they are not minor stuff that you might or might not notice. They are substantial addition to the story line and has dramatic influence on the whole movie.

Macross Plus is a very special anime and I recommend it to anyone who appreciates great anime experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hears My Thoughts
I first saw the original four part movie of Macross Plus on the Action Channel and was truly amazed by the splendid graphics and not to mention the music. The music blends in as a huge part of the movie's setting to bring it's listeners closely involved. But it's the story line and plot that truly amazed me. When I read a summary of what the movie was about I didn't expect much but as soon as I watched it I was, agian I say it, amazed by how the the writer wrote a story about a plot seemingly basic and turned it into a story of great expectations. The movie is a true vision of splendid movie making. It captures you in a world not much different than our own but yet manages to capture those who watch it in a world of fantasy. The movie is a must have no question. If you haven't seen the 4 part version of this film you should see the four part not the actual movie version: Macross Plus: The Movie. Its in anime but its much more than just another cartoon film.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Combination of Mecha, Love, and Action.
This was the best movie I've ever seen! It combines mecha, love, some angst, and enough explosions torattle your eardrums! I was amased by how smooth the animation in the movie version was. I was also amased by how the plot developed. It left me wondering until the whole climax of the story. I would recommend all people to watch this movie, I'm pretty sure that it'll move you or at least someone else.

3-0 out of 5 stars Which is better; the entire movie or the 4 parts??
For those who aren't in the know, Macross Plus was "distributed" 2 ways; the entire movie here and 4 seperate video tapes. I bought Part 4 first, then only got the Subtitled Movie later on.

To be honest, both tapes average a neutral in my mind; while Part 4 has abit more "Footage" and some different sequences (I have no idea why) plus had "Pulse" and a somewhat longer version of "Information High" (And it seemed to match flawlessly with the film in Part 4; in the Movie, it was clunky, didn't seem to mathc the film, and was shorter).

The Movie looked like classic anime; it looked old, played out very well, and offered a better cut than the Part 4 I have. Plus, the sequence on the Movie with "Information High" looked abit more spectatular with it's difference sequence that followed the begining of the concert scence on Earth.

But then again, I grew-up watching Part 4, so, I dunno; they both pretty much are both okay by each other.

Cost wise?? Perhaps I should buy parts 1 to 3 and see the differences!! ... Read more

High-pitched, relentlessly fast-paced, and filmed in eye-gouging, gumball color, this video series collects dubbed episodes of the Japanese animated series about a group of schoolgirl superheroes. In Japan, it's a lighthearted kiddy variation on a popular sub-genre--stories of alienated, but supernaturally gifted adolescents granted paranormal powers and enlisted in apocalyptic struggles between the dimensions. Imported to the United States in an attempt to create a Power Rangers-style mega-hit for girls, Sailor Moon hasn't become a mainstream phenomenon on that scale, although it has passionate, even obsessive fans, many of whom are much older than the intended demographic. (A Sailor Moon Web search can be a truly surreal experience.) The chirpy, giggly tone may be off-putting for some, but the level of visual imagination (and the self-sufficient courage of the young heroines) is exhilarating, especially when kids and parents watch together. This is this fifth volume in the video series: Serena, as Sailor Moon, has by now enlisted the support of a high-powered troop of Sailor Scouts--Sailor Mercury, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, et al. In the first of these two episodes, "A Crystal Clear Destiny," secret identities have to be revealed in a crisis, always a sticky wicket for a superheroine. In "A Relunctant Princess," Serena's moon force gets a power boost. (Running time: 44 minutes) --David Chute ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST EPISODE MUST BUY THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
These are the episodes where(obiously from the title) Serena and Darien reviel their secret identities. There are two touching moments accompanied by music, when Darien gets injured and when Zoycite dies. I cried like a baby when the song "My Only Love" played(oh its so beautiful), and I've seen all the other sailor moon episodes and this tops it all. I must say, THIS IS DEFINATLY THE TAPE YOU SHOULD BY IF IT BOILS DOWN TO A CHOICE

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Awesome!!
I don't usually buy the dubbed Sailor Moon, but this is definately an exeption!! This was the Sailor Moon that I first started watching (Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R). This tape has my fave episode out of the whole series : Secret Identities!! Usagi and Mamoru(Serena and Darien) finally find out eachothers true identities, and remember their pasts!! It is SOOOO touching.... then there's another surprise!! If you are a big SM fan, than you must own this tape!! Hope this was helpful!!

3-0 out of 5 stars I usually give dubs 1star but this one isnt that bad
Ok im complety obseed with sailor moon sub espically the 1st and 2nd season. Im 17 i know people think its for little kids well edit is uncut is sugessted 15+ espically seasons1and2. seasons 3and4 13+. I love Sailor Moon i'll always like it no matter how old i am hope.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memories of my favorite anime ever
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon brings back so many memories. When I was very young and Sailor Moon first came out, I found it by fate by flipping the channels. Back then no one else watched it and it was on at 6:00 in the morning. Many years later I reunited with it and then I ordered the Japanese episodes fansubbed. The Japanese episodes were amazing. Back then their was no official distributer, so I ordered from a fansubbed distributer. The Japanese version was so different form the American version. It was completely different. I love both versions though. The English version brings back memories from my childhood while the Japanese version is uncut. It's fun comparing the episodes and seeing how much was changed. This version, however, is the edited and changed. It cuts out many scenes and makes a lot of changes. While it has changed a lot from the original Japanese version, it's great for a trip down memory lane, and brings back my childhood memories. This volume has very important episodes. It contains many important events. Their are romantic moments, happy moments, and sad moments. One special thing about this version is that, in the original Japanese version they play a touching song during the revealing of the moon princess, but in the sub, they play a very special song. The emotion is kept. The song "My Only Love" makes the original scene from the Japanese version even more touching and heart-wrenching. "My Only Love" can make you get tears in your eyes, and it adds a lot more emotion to the scene. The Japanese version was very emotional, but the edition of "My Only Love" makes this even more emotional. Many exciting events happen, and this volume is very important. Whiel it's not the same as the Japanese version, it brings back memories from your childhood. Tuxedo Kamen is so wonderful and charming. He was my hero when I was a young girl, and he's still me hero now. He will always be the most charming anime man. I love Tuxedo Kamen/Mask. He is so wonderful, and hot. Anyway, this is recommended by me, but I suggest you buy the Japanese version as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! These episodes are great?!
I am very surprised to think I found these episodes very cool! Usually I am totally against revised additions but these two episodes have the perfect ingredients for a controversial but light-hearted storyline and excellent character development. Features two fast-paced episodes: Crystal Clear Destiny: Absolutely awesome episode! I love the thought of two people who practically hate eachother finding out their destinies are intertwined and learning of their romantic past! In this episode, Serena (Usagi) and Darien (Mamoru) find out they are destined to be King and Queen of the Moon and that their past shows they were always meant to be together. Very cool! A Reluctant Princess: Not anywhere as good as "Crystal Clear Destiny" but still a winner in my book. Serena (Usagi) has trouble with her destiny to be Neo- Queen Serenity and turns increasingly overwhelmed on the other Senshis. Tough choices have to be made, but in the end, she finds that being a princess may not be so bad after all! Would highly recommend these episodes! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For the USA manga fans:
Astroboy(Japanese original name is "Tetsuwan Atom", which means Armstrong Atom or Mighty Atom by the author's English titles written in manga books) is the first attempt of the weekly TV animation series made in Japan. It was released in Japan from Jan 1st 1963 until Dec 31th 1966 (4 years) with 193 episodes in total in B/W films. In Japan the watching rate was usually more than 30% and the highest marked astonishing 40.7 %. In USA, the on air was discontinued by the claim of parental movement insisting the story contains strong brutal actions, so only early part of the total episodes were available outside of Japan. The original Tetsuwan Atom was written in the form of Manga (comic) on the monthly books started from 1951. The author Tezuka Osam (Tezuka is the family name) was the best manga writters in history and in his lifetime he wrote more than one hundred fifty thousand pages of manga manuscripts (about more than 500 manga books) and directed many animation films for commertial TVs and non commertial experimentals. Outside of Japan, very small part of his huge amount of work is known. Atom is just 1% of him. The Atom series contains many classical SF spirits and rich ideas. The design of the machines and buildings are elegant decora style possibly Germanic. This Atom series influenced many Japanese kid at that time to make many engineers to have desire to make humanoid robots with intellect. etc, etc, Enjoy

5-0 out of 5 stars I never tought it was so wonderful!
It was amazing! Seen this video was the best experience. How can somebody have such a great futuristic vision? Just think about it: this were the 60's! I recomend this video more for adults than for children, and I recomend it a lot above 100%!

5-0 out of 5 stars Corny in a 60's kind of way.
I just viewed this video and enjoyed it very much. It's funny to see what the future was going to look like from the 60's. It even beats a lot of the newer cartoons that are produced now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tezuka Osamu's Classic
Astroboy, or "Tetsuwan Atom"in Japanese original title (literaly Atom with iron arms) was the first TV animation series in Japan which started in 1963. I was a kindergarten kid then, and TV was still new to our family. TV was still monochrome then, still I could feel  "clolor" of the scenery. It was my first encounter with Manga... Tezuka Osamu, the Manga artist who created Astroboy is "God of Manga" in Japan. Tezuka was the founder of the present Japanese Manga and animations. When "Lion King" was released from Disney, many Japanese fans are furious that the animation is replica of Tezuka's "Jungle Emperror/Kimba the White Lion." This Astroboy series is a story of boy-shaped robot who has human heart. Classics, but never loses its fascination. END ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most underated anime ever
Well there's stuff like Evangelion that gets alot of notice and alot of people see. There's other anime that falls through the cracks. This is one of them. I saw this on VHS a few years ago and am happy that it's now going to be on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Alsome Anime Show
this is a realy Good Anime Show if your a true ranma fan you'll love this action packed show very good transform trick and an alsome story line Birdy The Mighty is well worth takeing i look.

5-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Anime
Birdy the Mighty is funny and action packed. The visual effects and voice acting for the dubb is fantastic. I love sci fi anime. If you love this I recommend you see Battle Angel and Macross(don't know which movie or volume if any other).

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the best animated fight scenes ever...
This tape contains parts 1 and 2 of the four-part OAV series. Considering that the series was originally released on four laserdiscs in Japan for at least $50 apiece, Americans are getting a steal.

This anime strikes a fine balance of comedy and superhuman martial-arts action, with great characters to boot. Beautiful and dedicated (not to mention super-strong and hot-tempered) space cop Birdy tracks down rogue alien criminals on modern-day Earth. A terrible accident occurs, and she soon finds herself stuck with high school kid Tsutomu Senkawa as her partner. Not that Tsutomu's exactly thrilled, himself. He's in the middle of exam hell (American college students will empathize), and if he thought he had stress _before_...

Director Yoshiaki Kawajiri's previous work includes _Ninja Scroll_, so you have an idea of how cool the fight scenes get in _Birdy the Mighty_. (In this tape Birdy gets to take on monsters, robots and a powerful telekinetic in hand-to-hand combat). The animation studio was Mad House, whose credits include Wicked City, Ninja Scroll, and Record of Lodoss War. The animation in _Birdy_ stands a cut above television standards, with gorgeous color, detailed backgrounds, and a higher "frame rate" than most television animation.

The story is based on an unfinished manga by Yuuki Masami (the creator of _Patlabor_). Though the anime takes you through a complete story arc (involving the plot of a sinister genius), several other threads are left open at the end of the series. I truly hope they do a sequel, because I wanted to see more, more, more.

(Trivia: if I recall correctly, using the word that means "fall" or "drop" in Japan is considered terrible luck during exam time, since the spoken word "ochiru" sounds _exactly_ like the word that means "fail." Just so you know). ^_^

5-0 out of 5 stars Birdy the MIGHTY!
I picked up the this video blindly at the video store, and saw that it was by the same director as Ninja Scroll, and since I had heard a lot about NS, I decided this might be good enough. Man, I was so blown away! I absolutely loved this video, I watched it about three or four times! I was so impressed by this simple, unknown anime title, that ten minutes into the show, I was already laughing and yelling "yeah! she's cool!". With excellent animation, a fair plot (though there's much to make up for that) funny/cool characters, what could be better? Oh wait, I have the answer to that: to be a longer series. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Original 60s anime, undoctored.
In these days of re-editing classic TV shows to suit some mysterious agenda, it's refreshing to find that this wonderful show from the 1960s has been preserved in its original form. Four episodes are on this tape, taken directly from the same film prints that were shown on TV stations all over the US.

The shows are classic Kimba, focusing on strength of character and love for all creatures. It's fun to watch kids watching this show--they pick up on the heart and soul behind the stories. Kimba becomes a TV show that means something in their lives.

With no current announcement of a DVD release for these particular episodes, this VHS tape may be the one and only chance to grab this TV classic. ... Read more
