I would like to praise the writer/director of Ninja Scroll for creating such an exciting and artistic work while at the same time retelling the ancient tale of the reluctant hero. The plot was sufficient enough to withstand the weight of the amazing action sequences and fun sexual content. The character development was superb. Jubei (the hero) is not portrayed an all-powerful superhero. Instead, we just see a gifted fighter with an immense will to survive. The action scenes are among the best I have ever seen, with battle choreography that is comparable to that of the best filmakers. The villians are imaginitive and original, not to mention devious. The plot is extremely imaginitive, touching on topics that are not common to the "super robots and cute little girls" world of Japanese Anime: love triangles, rape, greed, self esteem, and homosexuality. This film was enjoyable from beginning to end, and if you are searching to expand your collection into something new, pick up this DVD. Its pure enjoyment.
In 'Ninja Scroll', this part is played by Jubei Kibagami, an itinerant ninja. He is drawn into clan politics when he comes to the aid of Kagero, a female ninja in service to the Yamashiro clan. To save Kagero, Jubei must successfully challenge Tessai, an evil ninja (one of the Eight Devils of Kimon) with the ability to turn his skin into stone, and the strength to chop walls down. Jubei succeeds, but Tessai swears vengeance, leaving Jubei deeply entangled in a struggle with the Shogun of the Dark. The third player in this contest is Dakuan, the Shoguns spy. He is a deadly old man who recruits Jubei by giving him a poison that will kill him in a day and a night. Dakuan informs Jubei that Himuro Gemma, an old enemy that Jubei was sure was dead, was still alive, and, in the company of the Devils, was at the center of the plotting. Jubei, Dakuan, and Kagero must defeat the evil ninjas and discover the purpose behind the killing of an entire village. Kagero is a poison taster, and, as a result, is permeated with deadly toxins. She can never take a lover, because even her kiss would kill. At this point in Japanese history such a woman was an outcaste, having little value in the eyes of her society. Jubei shatters her world when he insists on treating her as an honorable human being, creating a strong emotional tension that plays against the simple samurai action of the main plot. Production qualities of the film are beautiful, echoing traditional Japanese art forms with a fine sensibility. Line and color are strong. Violence, of course, is present, but is tightly controlled, not dwelt upon. This is one of the best and most representative films of the more conservative Japanese traditions of anime. Worth seeing for its historical status as well as for its outstanding artistic values.
The drawings are as always superb and the story line is as well. This story is about Ninjas in 16th century Japan, but with supernatural powers. REally interesting. It is very graphic and the language is sometimes very coarse, does make it more 'real' in some strange way or another. Really good movie, watch it twice, once in Japanese, once in English and be surprised
10/10
Also I have a problem of people saying "OH THERES A RAPE SCENE! OH! Now I must say the violence is over the top. Especially when one guy gets both his arms ripped right off. EEWWWW thats gotta hurt. Over all I thought this was an alright flick I guess.

The story in the beginning seems simple enough.Humans have reached outer space and built colonies there. But after some time, the Earth government then finds some excuse and seizes control of the colonies and abuses it's citizens. In retaliation, the space colonies build five mobile suits called Gundams(they're made from Gundanium alloy, hence the name)and send them with their young pilots to Earth to destroy the Earth government by disguising them as shooting stars.Unfortunately, the plan is exposed and one of the Gundam pilots finds himself in a serious situation. The story in this anime is superbly crafted, you may think it sounds like your average big robots story but it certainly is'nt.It discusses the ideals and motives behind war,and the people involved in it,and it quickly transcends that to an exploration of the human soul itself. The lines between right and wrong blur and you're often forced to question your own ideals and judgement. Then as more of the plot and characters are shown to you,you get the feeling the story is closer to a drama than your typical anime series. Not to mention that the cast of characters is strong and complex even from the beginning, and each seem to have their own reasons for doing what they do. The animation is quite good considering this is a T.V. series, even though some flaws do appear at times and the music just complements the action on the screen. There are some nice camera angles that I hope will continue as the series evolves. The DVD is excellent. The menues are styled after the cockpit in the Gundams, and we are given a few extras for good balance. Warning:This anime is certainly not for the faint of heart or those who need their heroes to be all-around good guys. While there is no blood and gore. And I don't consider it to be a violent series,I do know that there are people who can't stand explosions and death. If you're one of them, stay away from this title. All in all, this is a promising start to what appears to be an excellent series. You are given a giant robot or mecha anime with quality in every aspect of it.And it's on DVD,and it has five episodes on it.I think it's more than worth the price.
It's not that Gundam Wing is a BAD series... it's just not very good. I don't need to bore you with too many story details, since the plot is summarized perfectly well in the Amazon review above. It echoes the conflict of the UC timeline (spacenoids versus Earthlings, although neither term is present here.) The problem is entirely in the execution; Gundam Wing is very slow and repetitive. Let's take it from the top. The series spans 49 episodes. Fifteen to twenty of these could be cut without impairing the story one bit. These extra episodes are generally interludes in which one of the Gundam pilots meets the people - usually townspeople or guerilla fighters in some wartorn part of the world. After a couple of these, however, you realize that they're all pretty much the same: a Gundam pilot lands, talks to some people, hears a little speech about how great Total Pacifism (tm) is, and then is forced to fight to save his new friends from a sudden onslaught of bad guys. Conversations between the rivals Heero and Zechs follow a similar pattern, with lots of harping about the nature of rivalry and conflict (I lost count of the times somebody said "Why are we fighting this meaningless battle?" during the series.) Ultimately these speeches are nothing but filler - they sound nice until you realize that there's very little substance to them; they're there solely to make the series sound more intellectual than it actually is. The politics of the story are similarly repetitive; the Earth and colonies are seized by a series of evil organizations, with another always appearing to replace its destroyed predecessor. You learn nothing about any of these groups, and don't really care when a hated enemy suddenly becomes the Gundams' ally. Fans of UC Gundam will notice many suspiciously familiar events and characters. Zechs and Relena, children of a murdered visionary who end up on opposite sides of the conflict, replace Char Aznable and Sayla Mass from Gundam 0079. Heero, Zechs' rival, is intended to echo Amuro Ray - although while Amuro was human (sometimes annoyingly so), Heero is a flat and lifeless character. The Zero System replaces the superhuman Newtypes. Colonel Bask's colony laser from Zeta Gundam appears in two different incarnations here. The original concept for Operation Meteor (described in Endless Waltz) is a blatant recycling of Operation Stardust and the Zeon colony drop, while the final battle on the Libra battle station is a ripoff of the finale to Char's Counterattack. Even Endless Waltz continues the tradition, with Treize's daughter Mariemeia and her captor Dekim Barton replacing Mineva Zabi and Hamarn Karn of Zeta Gundam and ZZ. The series' "action" is very weak, consisting of invincible Gundams mowing down hordes of hapless enemies - combat seems entirely too easy, and there's very little sense of danger at any time. About halfway through there's a brief stretch where the Gundams inexplicably start losing, but it's only a couple of episodes before they're back on top again. To top it off, the animation is pretty choppy, and there are many scenes where the same clip of animation is pasted onto different backgrounds to represent different locales. I could go on, but you're probably getting the picture. Although GW is still a decent show, it lacks the intensity and depth that makes other anime series (the UC Gundams among them) great. It's fun mindless entertainment, but once you move on to something smarter (Cowboy Bebop was my next series), you probably won't look back. Not bad as an introduction to anime, and a good serious show for younger viewers... but those who demand MORE will look elsewhere.

But Gohan won't underesimiate his 7 year-old brother, and goes Super Sayin! But when Gohan proves to be too much for little Goten, Goten roars with energy.... turning his hair gold, his pupils blue and his muscles budge..... and the young warrior transforms into a Super Sayin!
Cons- 1. First of all, Gohan's voice in not what I expected. I thought FUNimation would get it by now and start making cool voices. O well, it's not a major setback. 2. The music. I was actually satisfied with the Cell Saga music. In fact, I enjoyed it but I was disappointed to see they didnt keep that up. Not too annoying jst adds a kind of childess sense that the Jap version never had. Pros- 1. You get to see chibi Trunks for alittle bit and Chibi Goten for a while which is sweet since theyre new characters. 2. You get to see Gohan go SSJ, sweet. 3. You get to see Goten go SSJ for the first time on an episode! The best part. I was picky and gave this movie a 3. It was a good movie....I reccomend buying Babidi movies and buu movies that will be out later .... They have way more action. I am looking forward to them. Hope this helped you.
1) Gohan is still a dork. But now he is a SUPER dork (dork power!!). Yet as smart and sweet as ever. Sadly almost everyone in the video complains about his new updated Great Saiyamn outfit for the tournament. What's wrong with it? Looked pretty *hot* to me. I love a guy in superhero uniform..^_^ 2) Videl...rocks! Especially in this video. Finally we get a female semi-Z fighter. She goes at it with Gohan with the fierce growl of a tiger that she is and even ends up blackmailing the poor sweethearted guy. 3) Trunks and Goten are way cute in this vid!! Check out Trunks dissing Gohan's outfit and laugh at Goten's antics, especially when annoying big brother! 4) Then Goku makes known that he is returning to Earth!! Ahh..*sniff"* Goten will finally be able to see his daddy. Wonder if ChiChi can smooth away her wrinkles before her hubby comes rolling home? Now I completely reccommend seeing the next in the series! Cause Goku is coming back! ... Read more

The episodes contained on this tape are the last episodes of the season one dub(you still have to put up with that AWFUL Sailor Says, ICK!) The cover picture is American drawn with a Barbie doll pink backround and has a glittery rainbow border(oooh, pretty colors!) By the time when DVDs came out, ADV flims took over and made new Sailor moon videos(and they put FOUR episodes on the tape, not two, thank goodness!) I think the video it self was good(i guess) but save your money for the ADV version or the uncut version(uncut is ALWAYS the best way to go!)unless if you are a hardcore fan who has to have EVERYTHING.

One Pound Gospel is the anime adaptation of Ms. Rumiko Takahashi's manga series of the same title. It's a nice video. It's got the usual Rumiko touch of fun and wit. I didn't find it as striking as her other works, though. But then again maybe it's because I'm not really into boxing. The plot is quite daring. It explores the potentials of a relationship that's considered taboo. We have a novice nun as our female lead here, and this is a romantic comedy. Sister Angela is remarkably characterized. She feels all the things a girl her age should, and yet she doesn't act holier-than-thou despite her novice nun-ness. Her sense of duty to the church conflicts with what her heart tells her. OPG definitely has its golden moments. My fave scene is when Sis Angela goes off to the local bar and unwittingly drinks her frustrations away. That was really funny. If you've read the manga, this is your chance to see that scene animated. It's equally amusing. The art and animation are below par. Although based on Ms. Takahashi's drawing style, they don't capture any of the cuteness or charm of the manga art. Sister Angela looks like some sort of fat cow here, thanks to her super bulky clothes. The manga shows Sister Angela in a swimsuit and she's nowhere even near chubby. Given these visual flaws and the general lack of plot elements, I'd have to say that OPG the anime is just a little above average fare. ... Read more

The two central characters are a couple of young punks who go by the names "Crazy Bee" and "Woody Invincible". The two own a small DVD counter in a shopping mall. While driving a car on an errand for a friend, the guys accidentally hit a man who was standing in the middle of the road. The man survives and while trying to help him up, our two heroes feed him a soft drink that happens to be a biochemical experiment engineered by some Mafioso types. The two guys drive the man back to the mall in an effort to clean him up, but then of course the man soon turns into a zombie. Soon, the contagion spreads and the mall is overrun by hordes of the undead. Anyone sitting down to watch Bio-Zombie should not expect a horror movie. It's a zombie movie but not a horror movie. Huh? Well imagine if Kevin Smith had decided to add packs of zombies into his movie "Mallrats" and that will give you a pretty good idea of the tone of this film. Witty dialogue, vanguard youth, clever pop culture references all of it done Hong-Kong style. Even though more of a comedy than a horror film, this certainly doesn't disappoint in the gore department. Lots of arterial sprayings and gut-munching Romero-style. The fact that there's no zombie action until the midway point did nothing to curb my interest, the first half of the film was very good at providing laughs and setting the tone. Even the two central dweebs, who were extremely annoying at first and who aren't much smarter than a couple of ten watt lightbulbs, really grew on me after a while. Other great characters are "Sushi Boy" who becomes a zombie with feelings and compassion, and "Rolls" one of the cutest girls I've ever seen in an Asian movie. Sure, Bio-Zombie is dumb as all get out but the filmmakers KNOW this. Bottom line is that Bio-Zombie scores humongous points in the fun department and that is why you should watch it.
