5-0 out of 5 stars The 'Fantasia' of the Anime World!
Admittedly, I've only seen the version of Robot Carnival, but it was more than enough to leave me absolutely enchanted.
This is not a movie, but a series of masterful shorts, set to delightful music. From the cheerful 'Starlight Angel', set amidst a futuristic theme park, to the darker stories, ranging from a Frankenstein's Monster concept, to a one man's night spent in a waking nightmare, to the nostalgic story of a man who'd built a robot girl, and how she influences his life.
Whether the tales are humorous like 'A Tale of two Robots', disturbing, or pleasant, they're all worth watching several times over.
Because some of the stories are a little abstract, and most have no speaking parts ('A tale of two Robots' is a regular, amusing cartoon short), it might be wisest to rent this video before buying. I can't reccomend it enough, though. Robot Carnival is the perfect film to watch during a rainy day, or just as a pleasant way to pass the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANIME AT IT'S BEST
ROBOT CARNIVAL BY FAR HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST ANIME I HAVE EVER SEEN. THIS ANIME BREAKS THE MOLD AND HAS ALWAY BEEN MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ANIME SINCE CHILDHOOD! IT STILL AMAZES ME IN TODAY'S TIME, WHEN I WATCH IT TRANSFORMS ME INTO A BEAUTY ARRAY OF CONTINUOUS BRILLIANT COLORS AND SHARP CRISP WELL DETAIL IMAGERY THAT LEAVES YOU THE VIEWER SPELLBOUND AT EVERY TURN IN A WORLD THAT ONLY EXSIST IN JAPANESE ANIME THAT YOU CAN'T FIND ANYWHERE ELSE!
THIS FILM IS FOR ALL GENDERS AND ALL AGES! IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT OF A MOVIE TO FOLLOW AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO UNDERSTAND ALL ASPECTS OF ROBOT CARNIVAL TO ENJOY! OF COURSE EACH SHORT STORY HAS SOMETHING TO SAID AS TO A LESSON BEING LEARN THAT USUALLY RELATES TO HUMAN NATURE AND EVERY DAY ISSUES AS WELL AS TODAY'S SOCIETY.
ROBOT CARNIVAL CONSIST OF SUCH GREAT ENERGY, BEAUTY AND GRACE THAT YOU CAN'T FIND IN THE UGLY BITTER COLD EMPTY WORLD OF TODAY! I'M NOT GOING TO GO INTO DETAIL ABOUT ANY OF THE ANIMATED SHORTS BECAUSE I WOULD BE SPOILING IT! PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS MY OVER ALL OPINION OF THIS ANIME. I UNDERSTAND THAT ALL VIEWER ARE DIFFERENT AND SOME PEOPLE MAY DISAGREE WITH THIS REVIEW.
SIDE NOTE :( IF YOU DO THAN YOU MUST NOT BE AN ANIME FAN OR EITHEIR YOU JUST DON'T KNOW GOOD ANIME WHEN YOU SEE ) BEFORE YOU DO MAKE AN OPINION I ASK YOU TO AT LEAST GIVE IT A TRY AND BASE THAT OPINION WITH YOUR OWN EYES, MIND AND TASTE AFTER YOU HAVE WATCHED THE MOVIE! WELL, GOOD NIGHT OR DAY OR WHATEVER MAY BE THE CASE! ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars My gateway into anime
ROBOT CARNIVAL is what brought me into the world of anime. Back in 1988, after watching countless reruns of Robotech, I was ready to either move up or move on. I went to a comic book convention that happened to have an anime room. Inbetween programs like Those Obnoxious Aliens and Dirty Pair, they showed segments of Robot Carnival individually. I was absolutely stunned. None of the other shows, even though they were excellent, could hold my attention like the brief shorts Robot Carnival contains.

Many of the other reviews will tell you the basics of the movie, which combines several short films that just happen to have robots in them. All but two have no dialogue. "Deprive" is a straightforward action romp. One, "Cloud", is a metaphysical journey through the skies. Still another, "A Tale of Two Robots", is about as hysterical as any anime you'll ever see.

However, the clear winner of the set (worth every penny you'll pay for this out-of-print video) is "Presence". A man works on a robotic girl for years, tinkering and testing, all while keeping up a family and outer appearances. The robot is a toy to him. But as she learns and grows, she becomes almost real...too real. He makes a harrowing decision that haunts him the rest of his life. Not only is it possibly the most beautifully animated film I've ever seen, it says volumes with just simple glances and aside shots. Director Yasuomi Umetsu has yet to come up with another film even 1/10th as powerful as his masterpiece on display here. If you liked Steven Spielberg's A.I. (or at least the ideas at play), you owe it to yourself to see this take on robots that are just a bit too human.

Unfortunately, the old American release by Streamline is not perfect. They place the shorts out of the original release order; the Japanese version has more clarity in the way the shorts are positioned. The English dialogue is serviceable, but a subtitled DVD would be much appreciated.

Finally, this movie requires some effort. Some shorts are no-brainers, but a few really require you to think. A couple can make you cry. It's a deceptively simple package that holds a lot more than what appears on first glance.

After watching thousands of hours worth of anime and running a website with over 400 anime reviews, I can safely say this: Robot Carnival is easily one of the very best movies ever made, animated or otherwise.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonder Unknown
I remember first seeing this on Sci-Fi back in 1993 as a kid when the channel did anime weekends. It was one of the first anime I had ever seen and to this day I still love it. The art and music play the emotions of the separate episodic like charactors, and display a wonderful visual wonderland for you to feast upon. I highly recommend everyone see this movie at your soonest ability.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great To The End
If you can pay attention long enough, it'll leave you breathless, though the subtitles on the DVD seem to be a very literal translation of Japanese. The dubbed VHS is probably the way to go. P.S. - watch it until the tape cuts off or the DVD finally goes back to the menu; there's stuff after the credits! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Lily C.A.T. - Aliens meets invasion of the body snatchers
While blatantly reminiscient of Aliens, this flick still holds a soft spot in my heart as it was the first anime feature movie I had seen (remember this is circa 1987)... of course, not withstanding episode anime such as Speed Racer and Astro Boy.

If you like sci-fi/horror/thrillers like Aliens, you will like this. Quality of renderings were very stylized/advanced when reminded of its release date (two years before the classic AKIRA).The violence, while graphic, was not too gratuitous.Americanesque characters, yet Japanese quality renderings (it is Japanese produced and directed) and its unlikely subject genre for an anime make it an interesting watch.

Do to its age and story line, it really cannot be compared to other anime feature films, but I do consider it a classic if only for its age and attempt to mirror live action hollywood flicks.

Worth renting or buying on the cheap for those who wish to build serious collections. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The artistic dance of death
What a find! This is the kind of samurai movie that I've been searching for! This film is a samurai bloodfest along with bits of black comedy and some beautifully poetic scenery. The story of a self-proclaimed "evil" man and child. Even though it is obvious the "Lone Wolf" loves his "cub" even over his thoughts of revenge. The "Wolfs" fighting abilities are absolutely jaw-dropping, and will have you reaching for your slow-motion control button. Yeah, the bood fountains are a little over the top, but I believe it conveys the actual horror of being sliced and/or diced up with any assortment of weapons. I really can appreciate Ogamis (Wolfs) superb swordsmanship and especially like the little flourish he does with his katana before he sheathes it. Samurai buffs: this series is the answer to your dreams.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of The Samurai Flicks
Based on a classice Japanese comic of over 7000 pages, Lone Wolf and Cub is an essential Samurai film series. In America it achieves at best a matinee status. The International Channel once aired the entire series- A huge Japanese franchise of nine films- in the format seen here to lackluster success. The story is simple: The shogun's private executioner, Itto Ogami, enjoys a post envied by all of his retainers. One night the assassin clan destroys all of the Ogami clan save Itto and his infant son, Daigoro. The father and son both swear revenge, following the assassin's road to hell. What happens after is a long list of assassin's campaigns highlighting the background of this period of Japan's history, known as the Meiji era, right before the fall of the feudal system. The films are simplified, but contain all the striking elements of the comic. The action is straight from the best exploitation films of this era; bloody and to the point. For those who have only sampled modern films like Kill Bill, this will really satisfy the jones for blood and lightning fast samurai action. THis DVD is a must own!

5-0 out of 5 stars freaky fountains of blood!
If you only buy one Samurai-action slash-fest blood-gushing film this year, this is the one to get. My favorite in the Lone Wolf series- I first saw it years ago in S.F. on poor quality VHS- It's wonderful to see it released on DVD! It has the prerequisite quick editing, tension, action, and wanton severing of limbs, i.e. the fantastic opening battle with the wicker-masked assassins. I especially like the 1970's style photography and psychedelic effects- i.e. when the female ninja team is trying to freak out our hero with their swirling colored fabric. See where Tarantino got his ideas from!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dan's review
Baby cart at the river styx is the second installment of the baby cart series, and is landmark film making at it's best. The realistic ballets of violence set the tone for an almost artistic angle for the film.Lone wolf proceeds to roam around with his son(Diagoro)in a baby cart, while slashing his way through enemies that attack him,and also collecting payments for requested killings. He comes up against three body gaurds that happen to be brothers,'The god's of death',and follows them into the desert for the last showdown of the movie, awsome!

5-0 out of 5 stars Lone Wolf or Lone Wuf?
No biggie just the Best Samurai Flick of all Times.Edging out my 'Main Man' Zatoichi. Animingo good job except the Master of Death had a Nailed Fist. A MAILED FIST was pre Postal then and not of any threat. Also the Gasp by Lone Wolf after he encounters the Lead Ninja Woman Seemed out of charater and not Audible on any previous tapes. Is that dubbed? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Much exciting action...but then again...so sad.
This may be by far one of the best sagas ever, trunks is kool, he defeated freiza, the trunk saga is a very sad one as well, the death of gohan in trunk's world affected him so deeply, and the other ones, where kool, but then again said and unfortanate, although I still reccomend any dbz(dragon ball z) fan SHOULD buy it.Because it is truly worth it!I reccomend it!:)!

5-0 out of 5 stars Starting my series
Okay let me start off by saying my bro got me into this series.I've seen the series off and on on cable and then saw some "uncut" versions.I gotta say the uncut was definately better. One of the tapes is the 'history of Trunks' it is a mini-movie of how life is on Earth during his timeline the only surviving sayian, besides himself ,is Gohan (his master/best friend). Together they try to defeat a pair of androids that are running around destroying things and in this version ,shows how Trunks turns Super-Sayian for the first time.(Gohan dies by the way).Which ultimately led up to him time-traveling to change things.I strongly suggest you watch this first, it gives more "oh so that's why!" to the rest of the tapes.
Mysterious Youth-The next two episodes are leading up to Frieza's arrival on Earth and Trunks introduction to the 'past'.Vegita comes back unable to find Gohan in space, Gohan is burdend with a tutor, Frieza and his dad arrive on earth. The other z fighters go to intercept but Trunks arrives first and finishes both Frieza and his dad before the others can turning Super-Sayian and in the process driving Vegita mad, since he himself has been unable to do so.
Prelude to Terror-This is my favorite, Goku comes back and asks who defeated Freiza and so meets Trunks.Trunks asks Goku to talk in private revealing who he is, and the timeline in which he lives.Goku seems to find Trunks origins more interesting then the prophecy given to him, and his reactions had me laughing right along with him :).Along with the prophecy Trunks give Goku an antidote to a virus he'll catch 2 years from then.
Z Warriors Prepare-Gohan,Goku,and Piccolo go off to train,Vegeta pushes himself to the edge (indirectly stirring Bulma's maternal instincts and planting the seeds for their involvment). Yamcha finally gets it together and also goes off to train.
Goku's ordeal- okay this episode seems to be all comic relief. Goku is forced to learn how to drive and Piccolo is dragged along for the ride! The antics these two go through is just too funny to put into words.I had to watch this several times,it put a big :) on my face.

5-0 out of 5 stars I guess I need to write more reveiws...
so I'm gonna start. Firstly, I can't tell from what info is given EXACTLY what this is, but I'm guessing it's the Trunks Saga and the History of Trunks movie if it's 4 tapes. I've seen the movie, and all the Trunks Saga episodes, so I can say, they are GOOD! The movie is supurb, with an exillant sound track. The episodes are great too (the between-saga sagas are always good^^). I hope I'm guessing right, but even if I'm wrong, If it's got Trunks in it, it has to be good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT EPISODES
SAILOR MOON fans will love this videotape which includes 4 episodes of the cult Anime series. All of the episodes featured here are particular favorites of mine.

"Little Miss Manners" - Serena decides to enrol in a finishing school in order to better understand how to behave like a princess. The school is run by the regal Countess Rose, but can she really be trusted?

"Ski Bunny Blues" - Serena and the girls decide to hit the slopes, but the Negaverse is never far away...

"Ice Princess" - When Serena discovers that in her former life as the Moon Princess she was a champion skater, she decides to take up lessons. However, the Negaverse takes hold of the ice arena, and enlists the 'help' of Russian ice-celebrities Misha and Jenelle in order to trap Sailor Moon.

"Last Resort" - Serena and her family take a trip to the hot-springs, but the Negaverse intervenes, waking up the fabled sea-demon that resides in the lake.

Highly-recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is my favorite volume of the Sailormoon Series. I suggested you get it it's worth it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars ...but why is it called "Field Trips"?
First of all, I would just like to point out that the name of this video is misleading. None of the 4 episodes have anything to do with field trips, unless they mean the trip to the hot springs in "Last Resort" (which is more of a Tsukino family vacation, anyway) And now,on to the actual review.

This tape contains the Sailor Moon episodes "Little Miss Manners", "Ski Bunny Blues", "Ice Princess",and "Last Resort" They are great episodes, although some people might consider them filler, because they don't really contain any major plot twists or anything. ...But who watches Sailor Moon for the plot twists, anyway?

These episodes mainly focus on Serena, and how she signs up for a finishing school, enters a skiing contest, goes to skating lessons, and takes a trip to a hot springs with her family. But the fact that she's Sailor Moon (and also the Moon Princess) makes everything a lot more complicated....This is a collection of some of the funniest episodes of the show (with the exception of "Last Resort") and in my opinion, this tape is a must-see if you're a Sailor Moon fan. It might even be an okay thing to watch if you're not.

5-0 out of 5 stars field trips ?

5-0 out of 5 stars trips of a lifetime for sailor moon

The continuing adventures of Pokémon pick up after the cliffhanger ending of Thunder Lizard as Ash, Misty, Brock, and Team Rocket are trapped aboard a sinking ocean liner. À la The Poseidon Adventure, they look to escape the upside-down ship with plenty of Poké-action along the way. After making it (was there a doubt?), the three heroes search for their lost Pokémon but find something else: Giant Pokémon! Finally, we find the not-so-subtle differences between the Pokémon Tentacool and Tentacruel. The final segment has more gunplay than most episodes, but the real challenge for parents will be the middle episode, which has five minutes of subtitled scenes in which the Pokémon talk to each other. Parents of nonreaders will certainly be brought in to translate for eager young souls anxious to know what Pokémon say to each other. Followed by Psychic Surprise. --Doug Thomas ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quit killing the romance, Misty!
Well, that's the only complaint I have about this video. I like Misty, but she interrupted a romantic part . . . . Oh, well. It was in Episode 16, when, wouldn't you know it, you first see for real how much Jessie and James care about each other. Their first cute part started, and Misty went and interrupted them. Who cares, though? That love makes a comeback a few scenes later. So I don't have a real complaint against this. I'm not even complaining about not getting to see "Beauty and the Beach" in this video. In fact, that's a good thing, since it lets you see "Tentacool and Tentacruel" which is a very cool episode. It shows Misty in a nice way! ^_^ Oh, yeah, what about the middle episode, "Island of the Giant Pokemon"? I liked that one too. Especially because of the tie-in with Giovanni. That was funny! Also, that episode sort of gives a reason why Ash said, "Pikachu, it's Zapdos," in the second movie in such a weird way. Or does it? Maybe that he said that has nothing to do with this episode. Oh, well, whatever.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best, of the Pokemon Series
I haven't bought the videos yet, but I've seen the episodes on TV. The last episode in this series, "Island of the Giant Pokemon" is possibly one of the best Pokemon episodes that I've seen. It's almost beyond cute when the pokemon are interacting with each other and with subtitles you can understand what they're saying. All-in-all, a great series. ("Battle Aboard the St. Anne" in "Thunder Shock" is how we find Ash, Pikachu & friends in the predicament that they're in.)

1-0 out of 5 stars poopy pokemon!
This is a disgrace to the real oceans! The pokemon have no chance against real fish. Jaws should be put in their to chew on Pikachu and the pokemon trainers! I once liked pokemon when I was 8 yrs. old or so, and now I have REALLY outgrown it and think it is retarded!!! P.S. The pokemon fish is a total insult to real fish! Real fish are smarter and even stronger. Sorry pokemon was even made! POKEMON FANS BEWARE!! NO REQUIRED READING.

3-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable series but too expensive
Pokémon is the story about Ash Ketchum and his friends, Misty Williams and Brock Harrison. Ash's goal is to become a Pokémon Master. Misty's goal is to be "the best at everything" but, more specifically, a Water Pokémon Master. Brock's goal is to be the world's best Pokémon breeder. Pokémon are the animals that inhabit their world. They come in many different species (mouse, cat, dog, etc.) and types (electric, grass, water, fire, etc.). Each Pokémon trainer trains his or her Pokémon to battle other Pokémon and win badges to compete in Pokémon Leagues. Ash, Misty, and Brock must deal with Jessie, James, and Meowth of the evil Team Rocket, who want to steal Ash's first Pokémon, Pikachu, and usually other Pokémon as well. This Japanese animation series is an advertisement for the Pokémon video games, and the episodes' plots are usually simple, but this is actually an enjoyable series. Common themes are friendship, not giving up, parting ways with a dear friend, and other good morals. Parents and guardians that are concerned about the violence need not worry. Yes, the kids have their pets fight each other, but they also must learn to take care of and love their pets. Girls will find a strong female role model in Misty. Overall, this is a fun, simple, warm-hearted, rather repetitive series. However, despite how much I like the anime, the DVDs are not worth your money. Each episode is probably less than twenty minutes long, and there are only three episodes on each DVD. You would be paying the price of this DVD for around one hour of Pokémon. That's ridiculous. They don't even include the Japanese vocal tracks with English subtitles or the fun music videos from the TV airings. You can rent these same English-dubbed episodes on VHS. If you really want this series on DVD, my advice to you is to buy the movies and the special, "Mewtwo Returns", and wait for box sets of the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seaside Pikachu is Cool!
The Island of the Giant Poke`Mon was wild! I like it when you can find out what the Poke`Mon are saying. And in Tentacool and Tentacruel, it's cool what happens to Meowth. I'm not saying anything now, but it's great! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This show.....
Is stupid and annoying. One word for Gohan's love interest "Witch"
or "Evil incarnate".
Strong words. Gohan "moron" amazing they rhyme.
Really lame. Eat some Fruit Loops and Cocoa Puffs more intellectually sound than this drivel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kawai!! :)
well what can i say??
Gohan-chan is so cute!!LOL
plus its so funny esp. when angela catches him wearing teddy underware!
well i hope every1 who has watched this vid had fun!!

3-0 out of 5 stars GOOD, but not great.
I have mixed feelings about this tape. Heres what I though about it:

Cons- 1. First of all, Gohan's voice in not what I expected. I thought FUNimation would get it by now and start making cool voices. O well, it's not a major setback. 2. The music. I was actually satisfied with the Cell Saga music. In fact, I enjoyed it but I was disappointed to see they didnt keep that up. Not too annoying jst adds a kind of childess sense that the Jap version never had.

Pros-

1. You get to see chibi Trunks for alittle bit and Chibi Goten for a while which is sweet since theyre new characters. 2. You get to see Gohan go SSJ, sweet. 3. You get to see Goten go SSJ for the first time on an episode! The best part.

I was picky and gave this movie a 3. It was a good movie....I reccomend buying Babidi movies and buu movies that will be out later .... They have way more action. I am looking forward to them. Hope this helped you.

5-0 out of 5 stars More of the ever hilarious GREAT SAIYAMAN!!
The latest video in the Great Saiyaman saga is truly a declaration. A declaration of justice, courage and super goofyness. Here's my thoughts:

1) Gohan is still a dork. But now he is a SUPER dork (dork power!!). Yet as smart and sweet as ever. Sadly almost everyone in the video complains about his new updated Great Saiyamn outfit for the tournament. What's wrong with it? Looked pretty *hot* to me. I love a guy in superhero uniform..^_^

2) Videl...rocks! Especially in this video. Finally we get a female semi-Z fighter. She goes at it with Gohan with the fierce growl of a tiger that she is and even ends up blackmailing the poor sweethearted guy.

3) Trunks and Goten are way cute in this vid!! Check out Trunks dissing Gohan's outfit and laugh at Goten's antics, especially when annoying big brother!

4) Then Goku makes known that he is returning to Earth!! Ahh..*sniff"* Goten will finally be able to see his daddy. Wonder if ChiChi can smooth away her wrinkles before her hubby comes rolling home?

Now I completely reccommend seeing the next in the series! Cause Goku is coming back! ... Read more

Cardcaptors has a lot going for it, including likable characters, well-crafted dialogue, and a cartload of similarities to the phenomenally popular Pokémon. But as the three-episode video Tests of Courage demonstrates, the series (seen on the Kids' WB network) also is saddled with shortcomings, mostly in the form of flimsy concepts. Case in point: episode 1, "Sakura's Rival." Here we're introduced to lead character Sakura's sole competitor in the Clow Card-capturing arena, the stern and unsociable Li. After a rocky first encounter, Li proves he's worthy of Sakura's trust by helping her secure the weather-corrupting Shadow Card (one of many cards bearing mystical powers that Sakura unwittingly released from the magic Clow book). The segment sets the tone for the pair's subsequent semicooperative, semiadversarial adventures, but it doesn't fully explain the Shadow Card's scheme, nor the role of Kero, the supposed guardian of the cards who bears a roundabout resemblance to Pokémon's Pikachu. Episodes 2 and 3 are slightly more successful in shedding light on what the wayward Clow Cards are up to, but batches of not fully fleshed-out details, like where Li got his card-impairing lasin board and what he intends to do with the cards he collects, are apt to irk kids over 7 who like their cartoon adventures unraveled logically. That said, Sakura's spunk and good judgment make her a better-than-average role model for girls, and her cool haircut is apt to earn her popularity points, too. --Tammy La Gorce ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars English dub is [bad] ; French version better...?
I know what you're already thinking by my bringing up the French version of Card Captor Sakura, but honestly, it plays a very important role, so sit and wait.

Nelvana and Kids WB decided to "join forces" when creating an English Adaptation of this show, and instead of dubbing each episode in a proper order, the kids that they interviewed (mostly males) decided they wanted Syaoran Li into the show right away! This doesn't work, as Li doesn't even enter until the 8th episode.

So, not only are the first seven episodes thrown aside (dubbed later on, some of them), the episodes are now completely out of order, making the existing plot now almost impossible to follow. Also, the music has been replaced, the new theme song is completely 'blorg', and the voices don't fit the characters at all. I love the Ocean Group and all, but...valley girl doesn't fit Sakura's description.

All right, I did mention the French dub in here. Quite frankly, it's excellent. The original theme song is there with replaced lyrics, there's original music, next to no cuts; the voices are fantastic! Sakura actually sounds like a sweet, cute child. What does this have to do with anything?

Nelvana dubbed it.

Two versions: English and French. Who gets stuck with the butchered one? The English speaking folk, while our anime French speaking friends in Quebec are being delighted by how well the show was handled.

What I don't understand is why the English version wasn't treated so well. It sickens me, along with any other anime fans.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is not the real story
The original Japanese version is completely different. I know, because I bought both versions for my children. So which is better? Well, just see the other reviews. The original is FAR FAR more interesting for both children and adults. Even my four year old daughter preferred the Japanese once I read the subtitles out loud to her so she could understand what was going on. She even wants to learn some Japanese words. Having said that, little kids will still like the butchered English version, but teens and adults will not find much depth here. And the theme song for cardcaptors will drive you crazy. If you want to see for yourself, do as I did and buy both versions. You will quickly give away the English version.

4-0 out of 5 stars The new exchange student
This is about Sakura Avalon, a girl who released a book of clow cards and now has to capture them all. This shows episodes of her capturing the Thunder, Time, and Erase card. The new exchange student named Li Showron showed up and sensed that Sakura had the cards.
In the beginning they dont get along that much but in the second season they start to get along and Li has a crush on Sakura.
Look, I see that almost everyone likes CARDCAPTOR SAKURA and it was originally made that way, but everyone be quiet about Cardcaptors is stupid and stuff. You guys all think that there isnt cut scenes and has a cool dialouge, but its in JAPANESE. And you have to keep reading the subtitle on the bottom and not watch the action. Anyways, Cardcaptors should be the same as Cardcaptor Sakura.

5-0 out of 5 stars The show rocked a few years ago
A few years ago when it was on KidsWB, I so loved the show. I don't care if they edited the version, it's still fantastic to me because I grew up with it. I'm going to get all the movies I can get and watch them for as long as I live. This is just a great show and I hope it keeps in the minds of people who loved it too.

1-0 out of 5 stars How *dare* they?!!???!!!!!!
And I thought the Sailor Moon dub/hack was bad.

Plenty of people have said it already, but I thought I'd add my voice to the chorus: this dub is just awful! Nelvana had a treasure of an adorable show to bring to America and turned it into a hole-ridden, unemotional, and otherwise just WRONG series of events strung together in no sensible order. I wouldn't have believed it was possible to ruin a show this badly. What *were* they thinking???? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Highly good Choice
I own this anime in DVD format, and when I saw the cover I was all "I dunno...it may just be all with nudity" but don't be thrown off by it. Its a Good movie! In the Begining of the movie an older Gua Ban stands infront of Vy Low, also called Scarface because of the long scar that runs down his face. Then the begining credits are also nicely done, the music is my favorite part of credits (which I never really liked credits o.o) Then theres a voice(I think its Faurink "Faury") telling about some of the history and other stuff then it goes to Gua Ban training. Scarface shows up at a point but no one knows its him. The you go to the turnament, it shows Ella Ragu putting on some armor, the she steps infront of a statue of a lion(?) and slices her fingure saying something (Sorry but its been a long time since I was able to watch this movie). Then the fight with the beast is cool, lots of blood though. and A lil part when they (Gua, Ella, and Faury) encounter the small, yet strong hearted Kyuo Ryu, and she then becomes a member of their party. After defeating the Moon Beast, they have to defeat another beast but it isn't what you think, hes human and he is Faury's half brother(?) which is killed by Gua(and you finally see him do that powerup thing). Ella and Faury duke it out which Rui means for them to kill each other, but no one dies. then the Epilogue shows a 14 yr. old Gau and Ella heading on their way to vist Gau's parent's graves, which were killed by bandits. On their way they run into many things. Ella also tells Gau that he shouldn't rely on his hands and brute strenght, but Gau doesn't get it. Later on after Scarface defeates the Wolf beast, does he learn about Shadow Skill. In the scean Both Scarface and Gau are under the old collaseum and Scarface tells him about how the female slaves were treated in the old times and how they were chained up, forced to fight. Gau and Ella have a fight to see how much Gau is at fighting using only the shadow skill moves, though half way in the fight they both break the matireal they used to act as chains.

All in all its pretty good, and sorry if I spoiled the movie for anyone, its just sooo good!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing! ^.^
The beginning scene:nude sillohettes of a slave woman in chains, chanting about "invinsibility" and then the chains snap, and you find yourself in a huge arena with a small boy facing a young woman, fighting stances. This is the beginning of an amazing anime and journey known as Shadow Skill. The main "actor" is Gau Ban, a young, silent boy with his older sister, Elle Ragu, who isn't really his sister; she adopted him after his parents were killed. The two are making a journey to visit Gau's parent's graves, to mark his height on a tree to show them how he's grown. Along the way, Gau is trying desperatly to master the art of the Shadow Skill, a skill that was used by the slave women in chains who were forced to defend themselves against their masters, and though he is trying his very hardest, he cannot understand. Though his sister may seem cruel, she wants so badly for Gau to become a Sevalle, and the youngest at that. That's as much as I will tell, the rest of this amazing journey must be discovered through actually seeing Shadow Skill for yourself.
UPDATE: Well, don't I feel stupid. o_O This was a different part of Shadow Skill that I reviewed. Disreguard it to this one, but it is the beginning of another ShadowSkill which is very good. =)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest Animes
Beautiful animation, well-developed plots, interesting(and in some cases hot) characters, and on-the-edge-of-your-seat combat scenes...need I say more?

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT ANIME VIDEO
Ok this is one of the best anime videos you can buy. I would also reccomend the second shadow skill also. The point of this video is that Gau is going with his adoptive sister Ela. To visit Gau's parents graves .On there way Gau learns about the "Shadow Skills" in the Karoda school. And he want to beat a guy named Scar face, for more powerful shadow skills. So one of his last opsicals is to beat his sister Ela. Will he do it?

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the best anime martial arts type fight scences
Shadow skill has some of the best choreographed fight scenes out of the entire anime universe of martial arts type action ( seconded only to Street Fighter). The OAV also has theatrical quality animation, fast paced action, and fairly decent voice-overs. Getting back to the story itself, it surrounds the training of a 14 yr. old bishouen named Gao Ban. He is being trained by his highly skilled, fight loving, and way cool sister Ella in the deadly technique known as the shadow skill ( an art that slave women mastered to defend themselves from male slave owners). Another bonus in this OAV besides the awesome fight scenes, and animation is the handsome fighter known as Scarface. This guy is way cool! I just love his fighting technique, he makes it all look easy. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
You will find that the Shadow skill movie/volume 2 still has wonderful fight scences but picks up many problems. The art in the movie is extremely low, especially compared to the OAV.The artists used extremelydark, heavy lines which looks tacky. They also made a few revisions oncertain people's appearances (i.e. Scarface) the result isn't veryattractive in the least bit. This movie also doesn't pick up after theOAV, it instead deals with things that occurred before the OAV whichdoesn't add any new value to the original story. It's frankly annoying. The voice acting isn't good in the least bit.Chances are that if youliked the first OAV like me then you'll find the movie to be extremelydisappointing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Both Sub and Dub Are Awesome: a Must for Tenchi Lovers
I saw both the subtitled and dubbed version of this movie, and they were both VERY good. The story is about a girl, Mayuka, who comes from the future claiming to be Tenchi's daughter. Of course the whole household is upset by this, Ryoko especially. The main villian was Yuzuha, a demon from Grandfather's past on Jurrai. If you enjoy Tenchi, you have to get this. The animation is top quality. The dubbing is good, although a few voices were recast. And the subtitled version gives you the original feeling of the movie, with easy reading. (And only one mistake through the whole hour!) This was a truly great movie, and a must for anime lovers! Also, if you've seen the movie and enjoyed it, you might be interested in getting the soundtrack for it, which is also available and is very good too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tenchi Muyo the movie 2: Daughter of Darkness
This tenchi movie is probably as good as the first movie. There is a lot of comic relief in the beginning and more serious issues toward the end. The music and effects are very good, though i think that the first movie had more fighting and action than this does. The movie takes place at Tenchi's house and it is beautiful summer day. As tenchi and the rest of the gang rest peacefully in the sun, a mysterious person (you really couldn't consider her a person) watches over them. This woman of darkness creates a girl a little younger than tenchi by a strand of her hair and a strand of tenchi's hair. As tenchi is talking a walk, she appears before his eyes. Washew is very suspicious the way she appeared and royko is VERY suspicious of her. For some odd reason, she calls tenchi daddy which makes everyone sort of crazy. If your a royoko fan, you'll like this movie. In many parts, many of the issues deal with royoko both in good ways and bad ways. Anyway this movie is excellent and I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars maybe because of personal interest of more battling between vilians and good guys and the length. It should have been longer like the first movie, this was too short for me especially at the very ending Other than that, it is a great movie

5-0 out of 5 stars A girl walks out of the forest...
and claims to be Tenchi's daughter. Mayuka not only looks kind of like him, but she can even call up Jurai power in the form of a Light Hawk Wing, just like Tenchi! As Ryoko and Ayeka become jealous and see the young girl as a new rival, will Washu and the others find out what's going on?
In the end it turns out of be a grudge over 700 years old! And it happens to be against Yosho!
How will Tenchi save his friends against the Demon of Darkness and will he also feel the need to save Mayuka, daughter or not?
Talking toys, adult scenes and a mature plot makes this movie something the kids might NOT wish to watch.

4-0 out of 5 stars A cool movie.
It was true to the original TV series, Tenchi universe, and was fun to watch.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Spoof on Anime: Shinesman
This farce on anime and monster-hero stories is rather amusing. Basically, a company has hired people from various departments to defend the Earth from corporate takeovers from planet Voice. But that's considered classified information...

Now this is called a "one shot" anime. It was made to look like a series, but never really was. Which makes it more admirable. The tape contains two episodes which are actually more comedic in English than in Japanese. The dialogue of the series was also intentionally made to sound like an episode from the 80s version of Justice League. The characters will say the most obvious things.. and that's only because this is similar to may other cult classice.. it was made to look like that. So in essence, think of it as the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" of Anime... well.. save that this anime is actually G rated.

5-0 out of 5 stars The funniest Anime Parody ever!
Tokuma Sentai Shinesman also known as Special Duty Combat Unit Shinesman is a Power Ranger pardoy and so much more. The story begins with a cute guy named Matsumotto Hiroya who in part of the first episode tells the audience about how he became Shinesman Red. His story begins when he goes in for an interview at Right Trading Company and is interviewed by a beautiful, business woman named Kyoko Sakakibara (Head of human Resources). Based on his answer to one of the questions at the interview he becomes enlisted as a member of the Shinesman team.

The really funny stuff about this anime besides the lousy colors, sorry weapons (like the business card cutter, and tie clip bombs) is the dialogue and the way the humor is set up. Some anime tends to have humor that doesn't make the culture transition from Japanese type humor to humor that a Western could accept, understand, like, or appreciate but this one does so perfectly. Another plus is the beautiful animation ( particularly the cute guys) and the superb dubbing job. This dub has got to be one of the best dubs out there to date.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shinesman=AWESOME AND HILARIOUS!
Well, I rented Shinesman having no clue what it was about, popped it in, and fell in love. It is incredibly funny, and the animation is very good... shinesman red-whatta hottie (he-he) It is a funny parody and after it was over I was dying to own it! I wish they made more!

go Moss Green!

But anyway. If you want to see a great anime, this is awesome. It will give you a good laugh, and no tears! The characters are kikN' and very funny! rent this, buy this, be this!

No matter how much anime you have seen/own this is a great new addition!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hella Hilarous!
Well drawn animation, good dubbing, great coloring, & sarcastic humor in every verse! After my best buds saw it, they made me play it again & ordered their own 'cause I wouldn't let 'em borrow it. My lil' bro. has his OWN copy. It's the PERFECT gift for the Anime Otaku or Humor Fan!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest things I've seen in a while
Shinesman is a parody of Power Rangers and similar shows. It has the typical team of superheroes keeping the planet safe by fighting monsters sent by the bad guys, but you really start to get a feel for just how silly it is when they introduce themselves: "Shinesman Red!" "Shinesman Moss Green!" "Shinesman Gray!" "Shinesman Sepia!" and "Shinesman Salmon Pink!" How can you NOT like a show with lines like "I can't die now, I have to give my daughter a stuffed fish!" It's really too bad there aren't any more episodes. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Video-game-based anime at its worst.
Simply put, Samurai Shodown is a below average action anime with average dubbing and average art. It is fighting game anime that takes the story from the game and does pretty much nothing with it. Buuuut, that doesn't mean it doesn't have its good parts. In fact, there is a pretty good dose of drama at the scene that occurs after the part when Haohmaru defeats Earthquake, and it's done very well in the dub. Speaking of dubbing, Haohmaru's voice is great (thank goodness, he's the main character), but supporting roles, uh, suck. Galford shows about as much emotion as Amakusa (which is null, by the way), Hanzo's voice is too deep for its own good, and Gen-An is just plain funny. The action scenes in this movie are flat out average.

The one thing that almost redeemed the entire movie was the ultra-cool ending theme (not the English credits. Stick around until the Japanese credits roll). Not only does it show additional characters and awesome fight scenes that weren't in the movie (weird), but the nice ending theme, sung in Japanese, is subtitled, with pronunciations! Anyway, if you don't mind a generic plot and want a bit of action, give it a rent.

5-0 out of 5 stars This story has a fantasy feel to it.
This movie is action packed. It also has a fantasy feel to it. I don't know why, but the movie is absolutely fun. I like all the battle scenes, and I also like how one of the holy warriors nearly turns to the dark side in this movie as he tries to avenge the murder of his family. I highly recommend this film to future anime fans

5-0 out of 5 stars I like Samurai Showdown! don't listen to these reviews!
I like Samurai Showdown! It's a very good anime translated to the Video game. This is a good anime movie! Samurai Showdown is much better then some anime out there. The Movie has a-lot action, story, and amazing effects. Don't listen to those other reviews. they don't know good anime when they see them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Listen to others, listen to me!
I just saw this movie and it was great. I have the movie dubbe in english not english subtitles. When I bought it today, I was amazed at the animation and when Haohmaru defeats Earthquake and
Genan was done beautifully. Although, what was weird is that Ukyo
was on the cover but not in the movie, you only see Ukyo at the Japaneese credits(weird huh?)anywase. A good movie, and a good video game.

3-0 out of 5 stars Samurai Showdown is a Let Down!
I am a pretty big anime fan and I am not quick to judge, but this is definetly not on my top ten list. I rented it having high hopes, but I ended up wishing that I hadn't stayed up to watch it. Fans of the videogame have probably already seen it, so if your just a person looking for a good anime to watch, find something else. It looked like it might be good at first, but the plot never went that far, and everything had a kinda vague feeling to it. It had 2 or 3 good fight scenes, and a little bit of humor, but that's about it. I would not recommend buying it, but it might be worth renting.

If you want a good videogame anime, try the Dark Stalkers series. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
In this review I will discuss this movie's good and bad points. First, some of the new characters like Sakura, Rose, and Birdie were in the movie briefly but in a meaningful way. Secondly, the dubbing was very good. The scenes with Sakura in them were very cute and humorous, even Ryu's alleged brother Shun had some adorable moments.

Now on to the bad points, the back of the movie box claims that this movie is a sequel to the Street Fighter II V series, however this is not the case. In fact Chun-Li is reintroduced to Ryu and Ken (yawn).

This movie has character designs by Yoshihiko Umakoshi the result is that the characters look the way that they do in the Street Fighter Alpha games which in my opinion isn't nearly as good as the character designs in the Street Fighter II movie or the SF II V series. The fact that this is a Street Fighter movie I expected the fight scenes to be equal to or better than the fight scenes in the previous SF movie or television series, but unfortunately the fight scenes aren't that great. Also, I was a little upset that some of the Alpha characters that were in the movie like Guy, Sodom, Rolento, Adon, Vega, Dhalism, and Dan, had roles that were short-lived and corny. The story wasn't fully realized by the writer's in my opinion, because it had the potential for being so much more than a story fit for a Saturday morning cartoon show. The characters were also in many cases repeating the same tired lines over and over again which was very annoying.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good dvd, BAD movie
Very dissapointed with how this movie turned out. I don't where the script writers came out with younger brother angle , but it doesn't work. Rule One : Don't rewrite histories of established , tried-and-true ,bread -and-butter characters , geez! Some scenes are very reminiscient of Akira and Dragonball Z , only very hacknyed and lame. Too much groaning and powering for SF in my opinion. The whole movie kinda floats around with barely any screentime for all those new Alpha fighters. The movie SHOULD have been based around a tournament , with nice, lengthy fights..only nauseating or incredibly short fights here.
And the character designs are ugly and very strange..I loved the art in Street Fighter II V...how can they drop the ball on a feature film?!
On to the DVD, video and sound quality are excellent , and I was pleased by the extras (interviews with the REAL cast for once). And the requisite trailers..if you are SF fanatic or completist , then go ahead pick it up. Otherwise , look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Way It Should Be!
First and foremost, I love the Street Fighter series, ever since Street Fighter II: World Warrior was made available on Nintendo, ahhh memories.
The thing that set Street Fighter apart from anything else were the strength of the characters, diverse yet loveable over time. All had very interesting histories that had led them to this point, (hence the creation of the current Udon comics).
I have to say i love this movie. This film is the way it should be. I'm such a sucker for films which combine an element of destiny and spiritual self discovery.
I think i'm definitely a minority when i say that this animation is better than the animated effort before it, Street Fighter - The Animated Movie. That film had good combat sequences but failed miserably in delivering a story, i mean come on it was so cheesy, it hurt. And the voice acting... OH MY GOD, that was sooo bad!
Anyway, that is in the past and now we have Street Fighter Alpha, it's just soo perfect, adopting a very compelling story, although i do believe it loses its way towards the end.
The writers have done great job with the script, whereby the characters convey themselves the way should be, along with the voice acting which is also perfect. It really is, the script and voice acting make the characters likeable (i particularly like the way Ken was intepreted), we can really understand their positions. Unlike the previous film which made the characters appear arrogant and stupid, it made me hate the characters more than anything.
Also the animation is very nice, with very "arty" moments such as Ryu's blood washing away in the rain, these moments really add to the film as whole.
Sorry i know i'm long winded, but the ending is also worth noting, i don't think many people like it, but i always like an ending with some question attached and climax.

All in all, a great film
This coming from a loyal and huge Street Fighter fan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A STORY BEYOND THE AVERAGE STREET FIGHTER STORY LINE
PERHAPS ONE OF THE BEST STREET FIGHTER STORYS OF ALL TIME. THE MOVIE DOESN'T ONLY SHOW YOUR FAVORITE ALPHA FIGHTERS, BUT ALSO TAKES A DEEPER LOOK IN THE STREET FIGHTER WORLD. AS RYU TRIES TO OVERCOME THE DARKNESS WITHIN HIM, HE MUST ALSO FIND OUT WHO HE REALLY IS AS WELL AS FINDING THE TRUTH BEHIND A "LONG LOST BROTHER". IT'S REALLY EMOTIONAL AND HAS A SOILD STORY TO GO WITH IT. IF YOU LIKE THE STREET FIGHTER MOVIES AND INTO DEEP STORY LINES, THEN DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET THIS UNBELIEVABLE STREET FIGHTER MOIVE.

4-0 out of 5 stars great Anime
This anime has some very nice backgrounds and such - the water training scene in particular has a zen peacefullness to it. The animation during the fight sequences is generally done very well and there are a few moments that are awesome. The drawing style is unique and I really liked it. The story is pretty weak - typical street fighter "with great power comes great responsibility" I guess. Some of the fight scenes are really spectacular - though I found myself waiting a bit too long for them sometimes. I understand that the whole movie cant be fighting, but when you name a movie Street Fighter I just wanted a little more. All in all I would say this is easily as good as every other street fighter movie made and I appreciate the inclusion of Akuma, though it would be nice to see Guile and Dhalsim play larger roles. Down, Down-Forward, Forward+Punch.
As far as the extra features go, I dont know, I never watch that crap. If you are really looking for an awesome anime, this is definately one of them, but if you havent seen Ninja Scroll or Vampire Hunter Bloodlust then I would say get those first. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars YeaH! Sailor Moon SuperS is da BomB!!
YaY! i've loved sailor moon since 1995!(ever since it came out onto tv. i've watched almost every single one except for the very last season which is the sailorstars series, and the ending episodes of the supers series because ytv stopped showing new epsiodes on saturdays and now i have to wait for at least 5 more weeks for them to actually catch up on what they were on before. argh!! it gets me so mad! it was so interesting! but now the dvd's are coming out! yay! now i can't just buy them! by the way, i'm not really 12, i'm 13, i'm just to lazy to sign up! anyways, i just like to say that SAILOR MOON RULES! i'm a very big sailor moon fan and i know everything there is to know about sailor moon.(seriouslly, i do) okay! bye, keep watching! 5-0 out of 5 stars Good video!
i wish they'd have the outer senshi in here, instead of the storyline being based on rini. i really sort of like rini, but i kinda dislike her a little bit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Diana is so CUTE!
I love this movie. The first episode is about Molly getting a crush on tiger's eye. Little does she know that he's just using her to get pegasis. The second episode is about a girl who has a crush on darian! Of course Serena has no worries. But Reenie is a whole different story, she thinks Darien will stop loving serena and go off with the new girl. In third episode Loona And everybody else thinks Artimis has crush on a human. Buy this video it is asome. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars So many memories of the greatest anime ever
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon brings back so many memories. When I was very young and Sailor Moon first came out, I found it by fate by flipping the channels. Back then no one else watched it and it was on at 6:00 in the morning. Many years later I reunited with it and then I ordered the Japanese episodes fansubbed. The Japanese episodes were amazing. Back then their was no official distributer, so I ordered from a fansubbed distributer. The Japanese version was so different form the American version. It was completely different. I love both versions though. The English version brings back memories from my childhood while the Japanese version is uncut. It's fun comparing the episodes and seeing how much was changed. This version, however, is the watered-down version. It cuts out many scenes and makes a lot of changes. While it has changed a lot from the original Japanese version, it's great for a trip down memory lane, and brings back my childhood memories. Tuxedo Kamen is so wonderful and charming. He was my hero when I was a young girl, and he's still me hero now. He will always be the most charming anime man. I love Tuxedo Kamen/Mask. He is so wonderful, and hot. Anyway, this is recommended by me, but I suggest you buy the Japanese version as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A new beginning!
This of course is the starting video of the ss series. It may seem a little confusing in the first episode, but you'll get to know the series more if you buy more videos. The answer to happened before the first episode and how Pegasus found Rini is in volume 11, coming of age. But of course I'm not saying you should buy that than this. You should work you're way up in order of the videos until you get the whole series. Don't be a cheater!!
The scouts are glad they defeated Death Busters, but now they've got the Amazon Trio, stealing dreams from innocent people in hopes to find the"good one" called Pegasus, who can't exist unless he's in someone's dream. The person whom's dreams he's living in are Rini's ... and he gives Sailor Moon and Minimoon a new power and weapons. Buy this video to find out who the first targets are.
Highly Recommended

3-0 out of 5 stars Sailor Moon
I dont like this video as much as the others because it's just about Sailor Moon and mini moon there isn't much about the other scouts and my fav scout is sailor mercury and it has hardly anything to do about her so if i was you i would get one more about the other scouts but thats just me:)

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Season

5-0 out of 5 stars The SuperS Series!!! Amazon Trio takes the stand!!!
This tape starts the SuperS series. One of the more dramatic seasons of Sailor Moon. I love this season because it is so romantic. I also like the Amazon Trio, they are so funny. It also features my favorite characters like Andrew and Elizabeth!!! Its a must have for your collection!!!
The Amazon Trio star in the first 3-5 videos of the SuperS season!!! ... Read more

I still remember that the first episode I watch about Tenchi is Zero Ryoko of OVA series from Cartoon network -- after that I am hooked. The Tenchi Universe rocks. But I do not like Tenchi in Tokyo, the animation is really different (or, really bad), the whole storyline is not enjoyable (for example, what the hell is the story about beating a celluar phone spirit? some joke?) Even the episode "Ryoko's big date" (Yeah, I am a big Ryoko fan) which I had anxiously anticipated was not that good (mainly due to the bad animation, maybe).

Now that I have seen all 3 movies, Tenchi in Love, Daughter of Darkness, and Tenchi forever, I have to say I like Tenchi f
