Like the similar Pokémon craze, the animated Digimon TV series has spawned a full-length theatrical film. The two phenomena are similar: kids collect monsters and go on adventures. While Pokémon has a sense of odyssey and a wisp of a moral, Digimon is flat-out rough-and-tumble adventure. Can an adult figure out the digi-details of the digi-world? Here's a digi-shot. That world is full of evolving monsters that live and fight in their own ways. The digi-world and real world can intermix, and one of the portals is the Internet. So kids sit at their laptops and fight with their digi-monsters in an abstract environment that looks like something from Tron but with none of the cool. The first 50 of 83 minutes is backstory that takes place eight years earlier. So everyone is grown up (as the time frame leaps over all the original Digimon TV shows), and Digimon and humans interact on Earth. A bad digi-virus is bent on revenge, and it will take more than a laptop to defend the planet. That said, if the end of the world ever looms, a golden digi-egg will be a good thing to have. 4-0 out of 5 stars Digimon: Digital Monsters - True Stories of the Movies
Before I talk about THIS movie, I should let all you Digimon fans know about a few other things about the Digimon movies: . . .
* In the original Japanese version, there are 7 Digimon Movies, the first two are involved with Season 1, with the origin of the Digi-Destined (translated into here), the Battle with Diaboromon on the Internet where WarGreymon & MetalGarurumon DNA-Digivolve into Omnimon (translated here) and the third movie, in the middle of Season 2, where T.K. & Kari, Davis, Yolei & Cody meet Willis (finally translated). All 3 movies had various scenes cut-out as there was not enough money to make a 2hr Movie - with movie 3 having the MOST cut-out scenes, having the older Digi-Destined captured. The animation, unfortunately, is not better than the TV Show, but its movement is slightly improved. The voices do okay, but not as well as the TV Show.
The other 4 movies, beginning with the 4th Movie "Diablomon/Diaboromon Strikes Back" is set after the Digi-Destiend defeat MaloMyotismon, and they are havinga battle against Diaboromon's Baby forms who converge into Armagemon. Omnimon/Omegamon and Imperialdramon Fighter Mode cannot beat him, until Omegamon's body of energy becomes Excalibur the Sword, transforming Imperialdramon into his Paladin Mode and defeating Armagemon.
Movie 5 & 6 have not been translated and are involved with "Season 3: Digimon Tamers", the 5th Movie (in the middle of the Season between eps 18 & 19) has Takato, Henry & Rika fighting Mephitsomon-Galfmon, who attempts to controil the world with V-Pets. And the 6th Movie is set after Season 3, with more of the TV Characters fighting an evil Parasite digimon controling a train Digimon who runs amuck in the Real world.
The final 7th Digimon Movie, "Revival of the Ancient Digimon" is set in the middle of "Season 4: Digimon Frontier" where the Digi-destined come across an island where human-type and beast-type digimon war against eachother and the children must stop the deception.
All the Digimon are less than an hour, running for either 3O mins or 51 mins. However the animation in movies 5-7 is better but looking closer to the show. It would've been better if they did Movies 1-2 first, then 3-4 as a sequel, followed by 5-6 for a third movie and putting 7 as a bonus feature.
BUT IT WAS REALLY GOOD ALL THE SAME!

5-0 out of 5 stars way better than pokemon any day!
I really liked this movie!! it was awsome!!! here's my review

Digimon the movie is a three part movie. It begins when the digi destind Tai,kari, matt, joey, sora, mimi, izzy etc. well, it's stars with younger tai and kari. One night their computer does something weird and makes a digi egg or whatever it's called. later it hatches a digimon and it keeps evolving. and thats all for this part.

Part 2. It begins with this evil digimon (forgot it's name) causeing a HUGE virus! Tai Izzy and the gang have to stop it before it destroys the whole internet.

Part 3 Its starts off with all the digimon characters includeing, Tai,kari, davis, etc. (no ken) They meet this kid from america (sorry I'm so bad with names) His digimon keeps attacking him because (warning spoiler) the evil digimon virus is inside him and trying to get them to help him. So they all try to defat it.

An thats all the info for now. now for my comments. This movie had alot of action and some comedy! it was funny! Now notice it's rated PG theres a reason. The action is violent and might sacre kids hmmm maybe under 7 I guess. so, yeah.

Now I her that this is another pekemon craze WRONG!!! people say oh digimon is a pokemon copycat again WRONG!!! FYI people digimon came first!! The dub just came out later so take note of that! and now to stop my ranting. anyways this was a freat movie!! way better than pokemon any day! I'm 11 now and still like digimon. yeah I know you think it's insicure for some my age likes digimon but it really isin't. This is a great movie/tv series great for the whole family! The movie and art is great! so buy this! or atleast rent it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Well...
First let me say: You will either love or hate this movie and series. For Pokemon fans, it will be a boring Pokemon clone. For those of us with less narrow minds, or who don't mind watching well-done movies for the younger generation, it is a highly origional (Despite some serious monster look-alikes with pokemon) well-done series. The characters are much more filled in than pokemon, and have more on their minds then "catch them all lets battle yay i love my pikachu" On the whole, though I rather enjoy pokemon, Digimon has a magnificent and powerful storyline (for a kids show) and I recommend this: If you like Pokemon a lotlotlot, think twice before even renting this :)

1-0 out of 5 stars Take my advice....
...Don't even rent this peice of crap. It's sooooo dissappointing, cause the show is really good. but the movie sucked.

5-0 out of 5 stars digimon is so cool
I loved the movie but its not only 3 movies in japan they made 7 already and are making the 8 movie I know cause I made a little research and have found the other movie I dont have them, but I know the web site were you can find the other 3 movies.I also dont know if there doing to air in USA.

C.S. Lewis's beloved children's fantasy is as delicate as a Fabergé egg, and bringing it to film has tons of inherent risks. Faithfulness is not the problem in this live-action version from WonderWorks, but pacing most certainly is. This realization is poky at times when it should be absolutely riveting, and yet it manages to be diverting during sequences that are primarily set-up or exposition. Four young children travel through an attic wardrobe to the magical land of Narnia. There, the White Witch keeps it "always winter and never Christmas," but her rule is in jeopardy as the fabled lord of the land, a huge lion named Aslan, is rumored to have returned. Sadly, near the end of the film, it's almost possible to hear the production team debating just where to spend its cash. They gave it their all to create the lion Aslan but had to settle for rudimentary animation for many of the truly magical creatures of Narnia. Suffice it to say, it's a nice try. --Keith Simanton ... 5-0 out of 5 stars MORE THAN JUST A FAIRYTALE........
An all-time family classic! "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" together with "The Flight Of The Dragons" ranks among my favorite animations of all time. I remember watching this film as it was aired on a local network, and eversince falling in love with it. I always wanted a copy of the video since I was a kid. I lost track of this movie for ages, and luckily was able to get hold of a good copy in a recent garage sale in our village. The tale of the adventure of "The Sons of Adam and The Daughters of Eve" together with Aslan againts the White Witch is simply thrilling and magnificent. The story of faith, emotion, love, inspiration and magic is brought to life by this sterling creation of fantasy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1979 Animated Version)
Every now and again, maybe, once in a generation, we witness an event so captivating and so memerable that, no matter what, you will always be able to visualise that event fresh in your mind, time after time. This amimated film is, not only in my opinion, but of everyone I know who has seen this film, one of the most underated classic amimations of all time. The story is legendary - the amimation is perfection. The last time I saw the film was almost twenty years ago. Since then, my old Betamax video player has given up the ghost and, sadly, I have not been able to watch it, or show it to my son as it was last aired in the UK back in the 1980's. ITV have, twice attempted to show it on Christmas Eve (2002 and 2003) without it going to broadcast for copyright reasons. I have heard that it is in the schedule for Easter 2004. Whatever you do, if you have got this far into this review, then this film is a life experience that you cannot miss. Unfortunately, this film is not on general release yet, which is a huge injustice to everone who has already seen it and wish to own it. When it is available on DVD, I for sure will be putting in my advance copy without fail, along with my box of Turkish Delights!

5-0 out of 5 stars This IS available on DVD!
I remember watching this as a child on television. I think it was shown in two parts. I was very happy to find this on DVD(...) This animated version is the best!
The live action version is a little too cheesy with the special effects. Disney is coming out with a NEW live version in the fall (2004). I can't wait!! This series really needs to be done right, and hopefully it can lead others to Christ.

5-0 out of 5 stars When will we get to own a DVD version?
One of my favorite movies ever. I saw it first long ago, and have since worn the tape down. The music is absolutely amazing, and this version of the film has always been relatively unknown. In my experience I've known only a few friends who have seen it. The animation is, to me, exactly as it should be...not outdated...not poorly done...nothing...the whole movie is, and it far surpasses any live action versions I've ever seen, which I've never been able to stomach anyway. Amazing, simply amazing...how much longer do we have to wait for somebody to release it on DVD...?

5-0 out of 5 stars musically uplifting
I first saw this version of the film when I was 8 and I have just seen it again yesterday on ITV and I still love it. For the 1970s the animation was good but I think it is the music that really makes this film. It's a beautiful score and it still brings a tear to my eye (mostly due to the music) when Aslan dies and then comes back to life. I hope this version is soon available to buy as my video recorder stopped recording half way through the film yesterday. ... Read more

Disney's direct-to-video sequel to their 1995 hit places Pocahontas in harm's way in London, where she is almost tossed into jail and has some other mishaps. She's not alone, however: a cute raccoon named Meeko does a nice job as the obligatory funny animal. The songs are about as memorable as those in the first film, but the art and animation maintain far higher standards than most animated sequels dumped onto tape. If you don't drive yourself nuts thinking about the appalling historical revisionism at work here, this is passable family entertainment. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great if you love disney sequels
Why does Disney love to come out with sequels. Last year we had The Return to Neverland. And to mention these sequels to. The Return of Jafar, Aladdin and the King of Theives, Cindrella 2: Dreams come True, 101 2: Patch's London Adventure (out today). What is next? Lilo & Stitch 2, The Ememror's Neve Groove 2? As the movie opens, the King of London believes Radcliff's lies, so he orders that John Smith (Mel Gibson) to arrested. But when John Smith learns that he is being arrested, he falls into water. While in America, Pocahontas (Irene Bedard) had learned of his death, and is confused on where she should go from there. But when when John Rolfe (Billy Zane) shows up on orders from the king to bring back the chief, an indian decides that Pocahontas should go to London instead of Chief Powhatan (Rusell Means). Powhatan has another indian who never talks to make the journey to london.

1-0 out of 5 stars WORST EVER
This movie was soooo BORING!!!!! Well okay it was ok at the beginning but near the end I was thinking to myself "I'll only like this movie if she chooses John Smith!" And guess what? SHE DIDNT!!!!! GRRRR it makes me heartbroken! I looved the Lion King 2, Peter Pan 2, and Aladdin 3 (Aladdin 2 was reeeally bad heheh) and I havnt seen any other sequals unless you count Fantasia 2000 which I think doesnt seem like a sequal at all, more like a whole new movie! But back to Pocahontas... I LOOOOOVED JOHN SMITH!!! I know that the person I borrowed this movie from is only keeping it to expand her disney collection... (she has probably almost all of them) and if Ariel can see Eric once, fall in love, take some time off and finally come up with a plan to see him again (which, when you think about it, must take some time for the movie to progress and such) She still loves him and marries him BUT WHAT ABOUT JOHN SMITH????? IT'S ALMOST THE SAME!!!!!! DONT RENT THIS MOVIE!!!!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars RUBBISH ENDING!!!!!!!!!!!!
this movie was rubbish from the start and had a spactacularly rubbish ending. the animation wasnt up to much. it loored like they had taken the original charaters from the first movie and melted them! all the walt disney "classics" have all had their own style. ie. the lion king had very pricisely drawn figures and was done in bright colours. pocahontas was made of more subtle colours and had a slightly abstract feel about the charcters. in this movie, the drawings just melted into the style of all teh other recent, rubbish disney sequals, nothing special or significant, the sort of animation taht can make you feel sick after watching it to long. this movie didnt quite reach the stage of making me naucious but it very easily could have if it was drawn with a few more of the really rubbish "pictures". the voices were all different, allthough that might not have been disneys fault.it only had about 3 songs in it and all them sounded like the writen had written them in his/her sleep!
allthough im not sure if the hole ball thing was actually a reference to hitory (i suspect not)i think that was completely FAKE and unrealistic. and since when has pocahontas been able to speak english?!? i know that in the first movie she and john smith could speak in the same languge but 1) you dont know what language that is 2)that was only because the tree did something weird.
was it js me or did pocahontas look completely hidious for a cartoon in this movie?
everyone was SO(...) mean to the little dog (what was his name?!?). pocahontas was hugin meeko all the time but she ignored the dog untill the end. meeko was just evil to the dog, apart from in the rare occasions that he was being sweet to the dog. bt i will admit that meeko (and the dog, and, yes, evan flit) was sooooooooooooo CUTE!
finally, the RUBBISH ending. firstly, pocahontas rejects john smith, who is like, the love of her life(in the first movie anyway)!!!!!! he was completely cool with it as well. she was like "we walked the same path once, but no i know my place." and he was like "i hope you find happiness." ok. im 13 and i definately know that my boyfriend isnt long term but evan if HE rejected me like that i would proabl slap him. and john smith was like THE LOVE OF HER LIFE. and then, to make it worse, she went with that pathetic excuse for an animated character JOHN ROLFE who had an unaturally posh accent anf "falls in love with him". THAT WAS W(...)-R(...)-O(...)-N(...)-G(...).!(...)
and john smith was SO(...) SWEET to her throughout the entire movie. one of the fisrt things he said to her were "ive though about you every day!" that was soo sweet. and pocahontas still loved him at the begining.SHE SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH JOHN SMITH!!!!!!! like ive already said THE ENDING WAS WRONG!!!! walt disney movies always have the same two messages
"friendship"
and
"TRUE LOVE"
theyre not supposed to be making films about players.
this movie is RUBBISH!!!!!!!! save yourself the agony and DONT WATCH IT!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars The Worst Movie in the World!!!
There's only one word to describe how I feel about this movie: HATE!!!

This was probably one of the first Disney sequels I ever saw, and also the worst. Even "The Return of Jafar" was better than this one, and that's saying alot!! I can't believe she ditched John Smith. It just dosn't make any sense. Mr. Rolphe isn't very outstanding either. Though they never show it in this movie (I don't think), there is a little bit of a historical record in it. Pocahontas DID marry John Rolfe. She went back to London with him and became a Christian. About 2 years later she died of a disease.

I have this sense of knowing when a movie is bad from the very beginning. After Flit smashes into that flower painting I knew this would be a bad movie; and it is!! I finally had to sell this movie to forget about it forever. Thankfully, I can now watch the first Pocahontas in peace, without worry. :)

So please, don't waste your money on this garbage. Buy a good, decent film instead. Like Finding Nemo....

1-0 out of 5 stars Why I hate this movie (Part III)
I'm sorry and I know that I can't shut up about this movie, but I can't. It is probably the worst movie I've ever seen and that's saying a LOT! A few more things:

If you haven't read my other reviews on this movie, please do, because they say a lot!

Rolfe is hella ugly whereas Smith is the dashing explorer!

I was embarrased for Pocahontas because she acted like a moron with her love life!

Since when do people care about animated movies being historically correct. As if Poca1 was perfect. I say if you're gonna make it, ya might as well go all the way! This movie not only shames itself, Pocahontas, and Disney, but also makes it slightly painful to watch the wonderful first movie. This movie was directed towards kids and since when do they care if it's historically correct?!!? My younger cousins hated this movie, because they liked Smith. I think that kids are more satisfied and concerned with Pocahontas and Smith being in love than the educational value of this movie. If people always watched movies for information, then there'd be a major problem. since when does Disney care about being informative?!!? I hate that jerk Rolfe!!!!!

I own the movie and soundtrack for the first movie and they're both amazing. I hate the second movie and soundtrack!

Don't watch this movie. Pocahontas and John Smith were two of my favorite disney characters ever and this makes me sad. I wish I had never seen the second one. IT IS PROBABLY MY LEAST FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME! Don't watch this!!!!!!!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Clever idea features every bodily function gag imaginable
A reasonably entertaining blend of live action and animation with the live action scenes directed by the Farrelly brothers.
Bill Murray is a lazy zookeeper who is unable to take proper care of himself. Inside his body live animated blood cells. One, a cop named Osmosis Jones (voiced by Chris Rock) decides to try and save Murray by challenging the orders of his superior (voiced by William Shatner) and give Murray the chance to turn his life around. The movie also features the voice talents of Brandy, Larry Fishburne, Ron Howard and David Hyde-Pierce. Kid Rock also makes an appearance in animated form as Kidney Rock.
OSMOSIS JONES is a movie all ages ought to enjoy, even if the animation is a bit iffy at times, but in general it's a clever, humorous piece of entertainment with Rock and Hyde-Pierce (as Jones's partner) providing excellent voice performances. As with SHREK, the character animation vaguely resembles the actors. Larry Fishburne is especially effective and menacing as the bad guy. I would also advise viewers not to eat during the movie as there is a rather low rent mucus gag and an amusing zit gag. Basically every bodily function joke you can think of is present in OSMOSIS JONES.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous entertainment does not equal great cinema
Osmosis Jones is one of those movies you almost feel like you have to apologize for liking. Well, forget about it, because this is a very funny and downright entertaining movie with no class whatsoever!

The scenes bounce between live acting and full animation, determined by whether we are outside or inside the body of Frank. The casting for this silly and peculiar movie was expertly chosen for both live and voice roles.

Live, we have Bill Murray as Frank, in his most disgusting character since Caddyshack. Chris Elliot plays his brother Bob, and manages to challenge Murray in the "disgusting slob" category. Murray eats a hard boiled egg that landed in monkey doodoo, and thus introduces Thrax into his body, a red-death virus determined to take over Frank and kill him. (voiced by Laurence Fishburne)

Inside of Frank, we go to the animation where Chris Rock is the voice of our hero, a white blood cell named Osmosis Jones. Jones is a detective for the City Of Frank, where William Shatner does the voice for Mayor Phlemming. Jones knows something is wrong, but the Mayor denies any illness could occur in Frank. But just to be safe, he "manually overrides" Frank and has him take a cold pill.

Meet Drix, the huge and snotty cold pill, whose voice is played by David Hyde Pierce (Frazier's brother Niles). Jones and Drix make an unlikely team as they hunt down Thrax and try to stop him from killing Frank.

Nothing is taboo here; they go to the nose and get caught up in the wave of snot when Frank's allergies act up, they travel to The Zit, Frank's hottest new club where Kidney Rock is playing (Kidd Rock), and Jones reminisces about the time he hit the "Panic Button" in Frank's stomach, causing him to vomit all over his daughter Shane's teacher. (played live action by Molly Shannon)

Boogers, snot, vomit, farts, and zits; its all here. Ron Howard even does a guest voice as Tom Colonic, running for Mayor against Phlemming, who broadcasts his campaign commercial from The Bowels.

This is visceral entertainment with a squishy feel to it, riotously funny and well endowed with toilet humor; silly campy comedy at its very best. In David Litton's excellent review below, he mentioned that this was a "Fun Time-waster". Indeed it is, David. Enjoy!

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring Not Enough Action Gross Stupid.
Osmosis Jones Stinks!!! I t was on Cartoon Network on Direct TV and worst it was at my school!!! I watch this stupid Movie Everywhere!!! Not Even Funny Its gross The story is dirty sick father ate an egg that was spit on by a monkey and the egg was pooped on and he ATE IT!!! Osmosis Jones a Terrible character This movie is short thankfully The reason i gave this movie 2 stars is because I loved the character RED DEATH He is cool!!! Red Cool Talker and He has a long claw that burns stuff. Anyway dont watch this movie. OVERATED

3-0 out of 5 stars If you're not a cartoon character, please leave the building
When I first heard of this movie, I thought: how neat, a fun and educational way for kids to learn about how the human body works. I'm glad I watched it first on my own, though, because I'm not sure I'd let any children of my acquaintance watch this. At least not the young ones.

I think the movie would have been better without any of the live action characters (Bill Murray, Chris Elliott, etc.) for two reasons. First of all, they're just disgusting. Too disgusting. It got to the point where I'd watch all of Bill Murray's scenes with my hands over my face, peeking between my fingers. Between the running snot, exploding pimples, and ingrown toenails, the "gross-out factor" just goes way, way over the top. To me, it stopped being amusing and became just repugnant early on. Like, his first scene.

Second, I think the final scenes, when Bill Murray ends up in the emergency room, are far too intense for younger viewers. He basically dies on the table in front of his young daughter (Elena Franklin), who's led away sobbing by nurses. He comes back from the brink of death, of course, and all ends well, but it's still pretty traumatic and graphic.

The animation sequences, however, are just wonderful. Bill Murray's character is the "City of Frank," complete with a police force (the white blood cells, featuring Chris Rock), a highway system, airport (Frank's stomach), and even a political campaign (with William Shatner as the incumbent mayor in "Cerebellum Hall" and Ron Howard as his challenger). The whole city system inside Frank was a really clever idea and very well executed. David Hyde Pierce is also wonderfully "uncool" and fussy as over-the-counter cold pill, Drix ("I was developed at the University of Chicago, where I graduated Phi Beta Capsule"). It's a whole new take on the "good cop, bad cop" movies.

All this having been said, I'm pretty sure I would watch thie movie again, but I'll be fast forwarding through the live action sequences. Just cartoon germs for me, thank you.

1-0 out of 5 stars pure stupid
this is stupid and gross and nothing works in this movie. horrible I will say and BIl Murray is wasted as the man who Osmosis Jones and Drexel are in. maybe a little bit for kids but this one is so bad I had to keep my head from stop spinning it was so dumb and so is the end. from the Farrelly brothers and the guys from Space Jam. they couldve done a much better job. Chris Rock, Laurence Fishburne, David Hyde Pierce, Kid Rock, Brandy and William Shatner do voices. Molly Shannon and Chris Elliott also star as well. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars *DVD* Please! Let's get these out on DVD!
I had a fabulous time today, having a molar extracted. You see, my wacky dentist has TVs on the ceiling, with VCRs, and he chose to show me a pair of "Dinosaurs" episodes, while he did his bloody work. It was SO hard not to just bust a gut laughing. (What was he thinking? He was laughing too!)

If the two episodes I saw are a good sample, this is a *wildly* funny show, just relentlessly hilarious -- with a bit of an "edge", if you'll excuse the cliche.

I'm ready to buy the complete series on DVD anytime -- after less than an hour, I'm an instant convert!

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it!
This used to be on TV and I couldn't get enough of it! It's cute, teaches lessons with simple family and day-to-day situations. Love the themesong! You'll never be able to forget baby dinosaur's motto: "I'm the baby, gotta love me!"

This tape is just wonderful to watch. The stories are sweet and silly. My 4 and 5 year old watch them over and over. Each time they see the stories they giggle with delight like it was the first time they watched the tape. The music and stories are soothing like in all the other Little Bear stories. Even Mom doesn't get tired of this tape playing over and over. I would highly recommend this and all the other Little Bear stories. ... Read more

A new VeggieTale character is introduced in the most song-filled videoyet from this Christian-lite series that promotes "Sunday morning values, and Saturday morning fun." Madame Blueberry is so blue, even her butlers (Bob and Larry, natch) can't fill her every need. But wait--the giant Stuff-Mart is just opening down the lane--promising joy to those who buy everything (a typical sales pitch: "Of course you don't need an air compressor, but don't you want one?"). Madame Blueberry will learn a hard lesson in being thankful. Bad news: "Silly Songs with Larry" has been canceled. Good news: "Love Songs with Mr. Lunt" has a whopper of a tune in its place. Note: the family picnicking near Stuff-Mart has a strong resemblance to cocreator Phil Vischer's family. --Doug Thomas ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for any age!
This is one of the better installments in the Veggie Tales series. Madame Blueberry learns a valuable lesson about greed. She isn't happy and thinks it's because she doesn't have enough stuff. Then, a Stuff-Mart (a great Wal-Mart knock-off) opens up down the road. Through Madame Blueberry's quest for more stuff she realizes that all the stuff in the world won't make her happy. What she wants is a happy and thankful heart. She realizes this a little too late and loses her treehouse but is still thankful for the lesson she learned. In this age of "gotta have it all", this is a great way to show kids that having a lot of "stuff" won't buy happiness. Through excellent writing and some great songs, including the Stuff-Mart rap, the people at Big Idea have created another video that is multi-generational. Even adults will come away thinking about the need for "stuff". This video also includes the song, My Cheeseburger, a temporary replacement to the Silly Songs with Larry. Be sure to listen during the scene in the Stuff-Mart food court for the muzak version. Too funny!

5-0 out of 5 stars Charmer whose message packs a punch!
My 6yo son is a big Veggie Tales fan, but he absolutely LOVES this episode. It's not hard to see why, as a parent, because the animation is adorable and vivid and the songs are instant classics (the chorus to "His Cheeseburger" cracks me up every time.) I'm surprised anyone thought that the concept that "stuff does not make you happy" is too hard for kids to comprehend. These days, virtually all of children's programming is basically made up of half-hour commercials for merchandise and toy lines, so this was extremely refreshing to see. The end is very concrete and leaves no room for confusion in a young child. My son was becoming extremely greedy and Mr. Asky McGrabby every time we went to any store, but it seems like he actually *learned* something with this video, because a gentle, "Are you gonna be like Madame Blueberry was?" makes him smile AND stop the constant toy-pleading.

I don't disagree, though, that this video delivers a message that many adults would do well to internalize as well. =)

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome story and values to teach your little ones!
This is just a very cute video. It's neat to see how the people at Big Idea treat the common problem of "too much stuff." Madame Blueberry is blue because she doesn't like all her stuff and wasn't happy until she got all new stuff at Stuff Mart. It wasn't until she saw Junior being happy with a ball instead of the train he wanted that she truly realized that it wasn't stuff she needed but a new and happy heart. When her house falls along with all hew new stuff, she makes new friends and is truly thankful for what she has. It's a great story to teach little ones, especially today when we all seem too glutted with "stuff." This is very well done and quite cute. Thanks a bunch Big Idea!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Veggie Tales Winner
My four kids, ages 0-6, enjoy this movie! My six year old definately understands the moral behind this delightful movie. My 4 year old son loves the music, including the spin on the Silly Songs with Larry (can you imagine Mr. Lunt taking Larry's place?!) My two younger sons continued to be delighted with the music and colors that make all Veggie Tales videos special. The lesson about greed is a good one for all children to learn at an early age.

5-0 out of 5 stars A hit with my whole family - young and old alike!
My son started watching Madame Blueberry at 3 months old - it was one of only two videos he would sit still for and enjoy. (Silly Song Countdown was the other - highly recommended!!!) And as often we have played it - neither he, myself, Daddy, or even Nana gets bored of it. My son may not fully understand the message until he gets older, but the rest of us do and has come up to rememberance on more than one occasion. (Nana recently told me that she was feeling "blue" going Christmas shopping and was singing "I'm so blue..." to herself, then realized that she wasn't being thankful for what she had and quickly changed her tune to "Thankful Heart." )The story line is fun and humorous for kids to enjoy, but with enough content included to keep adults quite entertained themselves. The songs are hilarious and addicting - and you'll gain a new appreciation for the Blue Danube. The Thankfulness Song is a real treat. There's lots of music and movement from the very beginning to keep young babies attention for a while. This really is a fun video and quite entertaining. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 19 month old Maisy fan happy with this new release
If you currently own other Maisy videos, you'll find this one to be a little different. Instead of 5 mini-episodes, it is one long one. It introduces each alphabet letter, the sound it makes, and then for 5-30 seconds Maisy finds things that begin with that letter, and the word appears on the screen. Many of the scenes are taken from prior shows, like "E" is demonstrated by Eddy Elephant in the egghunt episode. But there are plenty new sequences as well. My only disappointment is that they use all the same old music. And no new songs are introduced like the other videos. Whether it effectively teaches ABC's or not, I'm not sure. I think my daughter is too young to tell, but it's a fine introduction to the alphabet and certainly 3-4 year olds should benefit. All in all, a well done video and a must for die-hard Maisy fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for introducing the alphabet!
We bought this video shortly after my son turned 2, when he had just mastered his numbers up to 12 and was starting to take an interest in letters and had started pointing out a few letters on signs.

He was absolutely riveted to this video! We already owned 2 other Maisy videos, which he also loved, but he asked for this one exclusively for a month until he had mastered the entire alphabet. What a thrill it was for him and for us when 3 or 4 weeks later he could say all the letters in order as they flashed by in the closing credits. Sometimes we hear him practicing his alphabet after we tuck him in for the night. His pronunciation of letters has also improved a lot. He points out letters and spells out the letters in words everywhere we go now--on street signs, on license plates, on trucks, in the grocery store, you name it.

I was worried that once he learned all the letters he would lose interest, but that hasn't been the case. In this video they also teach kids what sound each letter makes and several words that start with that letter. Before long, my son would see an "H" on a sign someplace and would yell "H" then "huh" (the sound of the letter) then he would say a couple of words from the video that start with the H sound--"horse" and "hop." He does this especially with letters that remind him of his favorite segments in the video--we all get a real kick out of him saying "J....jaguar" whenever he sees a J or "S...snake...ssssss" when he sees an S.

When he does this, I try to add on a few extra words that he already knows which start with the same letter but which aren't featured in the video (e.g. "hat" and "head" when he says "H...huh...horse...hop"), and he seems to recognize the similarity in sound.

I have one quibble--I know there aren't many words that start with X, but most of the words they feature for X start with the X SOUND, not the letter X. The narrator will say something like "X is in 'excuse me' too." To their credit, they do show the word on screen with the X highlighted, but the distinction is probably lost on younger viewers.

I think that for my son, this was a case of the right video at the right time. We enjoy the whole Maisy series, and parents will love the fact that the understated music is very pleasant and enhances the tape without ever being annoying.

This one is highly recommended, and for preschoolers working on numbers, Count with Maisy is another good choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love Maisy!
This is another great video bought for a 19 month old boy who is now three and still loves to watch this video. He has learned the entire alphabet by age 2! I thought this video captures a child's heart with the colorful fun loving and imaginative characters while learning in a very relaxed environment. This was the only video that did not introduce him to instances of other characters acting or talking (shouting)rough or them getting hurt of some way in the cartoon. I let him see a cartoon where the characters were fighting the bad guy and it upset him so much that I deleted all of those cartoons entirely from his young viewing experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars This tape taught my 3-year old to read.
My now-4-year-old watched this tape many times over the course of a few months, and, honest-to-goodness, it taught him to read. Now I'm buying a copy for my 20-month-old to see if it eventually does the same for him.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good video - but sounds are wrong
I bought this video for my daughter because she loves Maisy. I teach 1st grade, and when we watched it they say the wrong sounds for some of the letters. For example for t they would say "tuh", when it should really just be the t sound without the uh on the end. When working on Phonics in Kindergarten, the children say just the consonant sound without adding a vowel sound onto the end. ... Read more

This is the first video of this children's favorite series that's not just a TV segment. The introduction, created for the video, follows Blue's intrepid friend Steve as he visits a kid's house to learn the "Birthday Candle Dance." It's only six or so minutes but it does add to the fun. Then it's on to Blue's fabulous birthday party, where she has left some clues for what she really wants for her birthday. Another winner. --Doug Thomas ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything in moderation
This is our first exposure to Blue's Clues. I find the backgrounds inviting and different; the skiddoo concept (through which Steve catapults himself into different settings) fascinating and the story is manageable and well done. This series has a common theme: items marked with Blue's pawprint are "clues" to a mystery, which the children resolve after discovering the clues. In this episode, Blue is having a birthday party. First, Steve learns the birthday dance; next, he shops for presents; then, he helps Blue with the table and finally, they have the party. At the end, Steve gets a present of his own from Blue.

This is a sweet little story; the characters are cute and there is certainly some learning going on. That said, this is a tape that evokes the dreaded "again" refrain. (Then again, all the good ones do that).

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a good children's video
My nephew is 2 years old and he has been watching Blue's Clues for as long as it has been on. When he was in his play pen he always used to stand up and dance when Blue came on. Later on he learned to recognize the songs if someone was to sing it to him. After a while he learned the little steps that Steve does with the songs. My nephew is absolutely infatuated with Blue. My sister in law decided that since she got all the Blue toys that she's seen and could afford for my nephew, for Christmas last year she bought him the video of Blue's Birthday. He watches it all the time and sometimes more than once. Since my nephew loves Blue and watches her all the time he has made everyone else in the family love her too. I am 17 years of age and I think that Blue's Clues is a fun and creative way for young children to learn and I learned that no matter how old you are, some things just make you feel young again.

5-0 out of 5 stars best of blue
My son is 2 now. He's alway's loved blue even as an infant.I have older children who enjoy watching also. It's something he can relate to.He's also learning so much from blue and her friends. Also from Steve and Joe.Any kid will love this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars great video
and great party ideas.

My son was given this video during his Blue's Clues obsession. He loved it and I even got some great ideas for his 2nd birthday party.

Now my second son is enjoying it. Guess I'll have to have another Blue's Clues party. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars An all-time favorite
When I was a kid, one thing I looked forward to in the summer was when Nickelodeon would play "How I spent my vacation". They would split the movie up into four episodes and play two each day. I loved this movie when I was a kid and I still love it now. It's absolutely hilarious-"There's a car! there's a car!" I think my favorite parts are Plucky going to Happy World Land with Hampton. This movie is just absolutely hilarious and will always remain on my list of favorite movies!

5-0 out of 5 stars El viejo Truco del Abono!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Too fun to pass up!
I loved this when I was a kid and still do, it's the only carton I like now. All of the characters are lovable with Buster and Babs on the Huck Finn adventure. They go a long way for only being on a coffee table and Spelberge even mocks one of his earlyer films ("E.T: Extra Terrastrial") and even super man. Plucky is histerical while riding in back with the escaped convict. And you get the ultimate laughes in the theatre scene. Spelberge is a genious, I hope this comes out on DVD soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars TINY TOON ADVENTURES: HOW I SPENT MY VACATION
I would recommend this video to Tiny Toon fans, and all Looney Toon fans, as well. All the characters are great, and the storyline is amusing. See if you don't think "Plucky" is hysterical (in a pathetic way), and Edie McClurg's voice is priceless!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must see for any Tiny Toon fan! Great Movie.
This move is Tiny Toons at their best, involves all the toons in different sagas neatly put together for a lot of laughs. The animation is done very well also. If you like cartoons, you will love this movie. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Chicken FUN!
Last night, I was lucky enough to attend a sneak preview of this new adventure from Aardman Studios (makers of the "Wallace and Gromit" films), so let me be the first (but definitely not the last) to say that "Chicken Run" is simply the most delightful, visually amazing, and FUN animated movie since Disney's "The Lion King." Other studios (notably Warner Brothers) have tried to take a bite out of Disney's pie-share of the kid-movie market, but Aardman and Dreamworks have done it best in this charming, hilarious, and edge-of-your-seat thrilling animated fantasy about a group of hens trying to break out of a chicken farm. Running the farm with an evil eye and an iron ax are the villainous Mrs. Tweedie and her henpecked (literally) husband, who's sure those chickens are plotting escape. The voices are perfect, from Julia Sawalha and Jane Horrocks from "Absolutely Fabulous" as chickens to Mel Gibson as the "flying" rooster Rocky. I want to recommend that every parent take their kids to see this one: unlike many other recent cartoons, this one is completely suitable for all but the very youngest children (there's some tense moments in a chase at the end, and a little threatening to the chickens with an ax), but even better, this will delight and amuse the adults with its clever animation, perfect voice-casting, witty visual allusions to famous movies like "The Great Escape," "The Bridge over the River Kwai," and "Raiders of the Lost Ark," and Indiana Jones-type thrills that range from a chase inside a automatic chicken pie-making machine to a dramatic and climatic escape that is reminiscent of, but even improves on, the high-energy chase sequences of Aardman's "Wallace and Gromit" films. The moral lessons (you can succeed better with teamwork; stand by your friends) are pointed but gentle, without hitting kids over the head. I can't recommend this one highly enough, folks, whatever age you are. And if you head out of the theater and go eat a chicken pot pie, you have a much, much, harder heart than mine!

4-0 out of 5 stars RUN and see Chicken Run...
I don't know quite what I expected when I saw this movie, but I have to say, that despite its theme, the humor was definitely NOT just for children. I was originally hoping it to be polished and neatly produced (similar to the fantastic Toy Story movies) but you can only do so much when it comes to clay-mation. Well with that said, 'Chicken Run' was truly a delight. The jokes were on a childrens level--PART of the time...SOMETIMES the jokes were outright WAY over the heads of children--nothing dirty mind you, but the producers also realized what Disney figured out a few years back: 'Sure, it might be considered a kids film, but there are going to be a LOT of adults that see this, too--and you simply CANNOT ignore them anymore'.

TRYING to escape from a chicken's version of a concentration camp (the similarities are hilarious) and the motto of those running the camp: "NOBODY escapes!" All of the characters are funny, especially the knitting lady who wonders about the chickens who disappeared by asking, "Did they go on holiday?" The first time I saw an animated film with the voice of Mel Gibson I hated it, I hated, hated, HATED IT!! 'Course I'm talking about the abysmal 'Pocohontas' and while watching it I just COULDN'T help but think of Gibson's face every time his character spoke...I was afraid that was also going to be the case here, but thank heavens that isn't what happened at ALL. In fact I completely forgot about Gibson almost immediately. This is not just fun for children, but VERY worthwhile for adults as well. Grab it while ya can and you will most likely see it over and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not funny?
All those 1 star reviews claim that the movie was bad and not funny. Well, the first time was about to see it I thought it would be funny. It had quite a few funny moments but overall I got impression that it was rather sad (but optimistic). Then I realized that I liked it that way.
Technically, it is perfect, even in the era of 3D animated movies.
Chickens are not your prime target of any movies, but this is THE chicken movie to own. Funny and sad at the same time, if you think about it.

P.S: my usual comment for amazon reviewers. Before you claim that this or that movie is THE worst you ever saw, think twice. It might imply that you indeed have seen VERY few movies in your life, or that you are just talking bull. Can you seriously claim that a particular movie is the WORST movie you have ever seen? I don't know about you, but it would take me some serious thinking to come up with a SINGLE WORST movie I ever watched. Unless you are a Tibetian Monk, you probably did not think it through. It might be bad, but is it the worst?

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for everyone!!
Kids love this movie for the talking chickens and their attempts to fly along with the creative rats...adults love this movie for the subtle humor and gentle jabs at other movie classics. If you are looking for a movie for all ages, this is one to fit the bill. And, it doesn't forget to examine the question, "Which came first?"

A real pleasure, with little (if anything) to offend.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS CHICKEN LAYS A GOLDEN EGG
CHICKEN RUN is a delightful film, fun for both children and adults! The stop motion animation is brilliant and the characterizations and the voices that supplied them are superb! What is basically an animated poultrified GREAT ESCAPE comes across with laughter, touching sentimentality, and lots of wonderful vignettes. Julia Swahala and Jane Sherrocks (both from Absolutely Fabulous) are indeed absolutely fabulous in their roles. Sawahla's Ginger is the epitome of today's female action hero---brave, loyal, independent and a touch feisty! All of the hens are wonderful, and producers should be ashamed in not featuring them in the credits. Their names don't appear until the end and they go by so fast you can barely read it. These actors are wonderful and deserve more credit for the quality of this film. Its only "star", Mel Gibson, is dashingly heroic and fits Rocky to a tee. Tony Haygarth (so good in Frank Langella's Dracula) does great with Mr. Tweedy's role and Miranda Richardson as the evil Mrs. Tweedy is perfect. This film is lovingly made and has wonderful music, as well. Also, catch some references to other films, such as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" where the tumbling boulder is replaced by tumbling wingnuts, and catch Mrs. Tweedy's Cruella deville impression after she is bombed with gravy!
I loved this movie, it makes you feel good, and is excellent to boot! Don't miss out on this one! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Banal
This hurts. This REALLY hurts. The film is so bad it's funny. It bastardizes classic Tom & Jerry humor, and has more in common with Tiny Toons than the original films. Worst of all, this hideous movie made them TALK. Avoid this thing at all costs.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's Tom And Jerry Like You've Never Seen Them Before.
This is great movie. I saw it when I was about 7 years old. I'm 14 now and I still love it. Even giving Tom and Jerry voices didn't hurt the film. I highly recomend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not the real Tom & Jerry
Not only has Turner ruined movies by colorizing them, they have ruined Tom and Jerry by giving them voices! In this newly made cartoon, all we learn is that they have nothing interesting to say. Stick with the classic Tom & Jerry's and forget about this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun, great laughs, and great muppets
I've only seen this movie on a recorded-off-TV format, but this is probably one of the funniest movies you can see (at least with Kermit the Frog in the starring role), and certainly the best Muppet movie, as far as I'm concerned.

The movie begins with Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo in a balloon, floating high above the city, reading the credits as they roll. ("Kermit? What does B.S.C. stand for?" "I dunno..." and "Nobody really reads these do they?" "Well sure they do. They all have families.")

Once the credits finish, the balloon plummets to the street, where the trio introduce the movie with a large song-and-dance number amidst a chaotic street scene, complete with a robbery on set!

The rest of the movie is loads of laughs as Kermit and his friends travel to England for their newspaper to interview Lady Holiday (Diana Rigg). Their Muppet entourage grows when the three book their stay at the Happiness Hotel, a run-down England hotel occupied by a crew of lazy Muppets.

Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo, Miss Piggy, Animal, Dr. Teeth and the whole gang eventually team up to foil Lady Holiday's brother (Charles Grodin) and his three partners in crime from stealing the fabulous Baseball Diamond at the Mallory Gallery. It's pure, hilarious, and classic Muppet mayhem.

Kiddos and adults one and all will most likely enjoy this movie, and you don't have to worry about any unclean humor whatsoever.

I'm in my late teens and I still laugh at this movie. Definitely worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great movie, lousy DVD
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Muppets, even as I got older and started watching more "grown-up" movies.

Of the three Muppet movies made while Jim Henson was still alive, this was the first one I ever saw, and remains my favorite. The jokes are hilarious (my favorite being the recurring joke "We'll catch them red-handed." "What color are their hands now?"), and the puppetry is just incredible, especially during the scene where everyone goes for a bike ride.

Unfortunately, I can't give this 5 stars, because I'm not just rating the movie, I'm rating the DVD it's on. And quite frankly, the DVD stinks. Even though some bonus features (like on the "Muppet Movie" and "Muppets Take Manhattan" DVDs) would have been nice, what was REALLY lacking was the picture quality. The opening scene with Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo in the hot air balloon looked dirty and grainy. This film seriously needed to be cleaned up before being transferred to DVD.

So while the movie itself is great and gets five stars, I can only give the DVD three.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Great Muppet Caper
I really enjoyed this movie...it's great for the whole family!

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute but Not my Favorite Muppet Movie!
I saw The great Muppet Caper in a movie theater with my family when I was about 16 years old and though I preferred The first movie and I also prefer the third movie The Muppets Take Manhattan this was a cute movie too but I just didn't enjoy it as much but I do recommend it to Muppet fans but though I would buy the other two movies on DVD I'm not sure if I would buy this one unless I found it on sale at a very low price. Like in a bargain bin or something.

4-0 out of 5 stars Witty, witty, witty...
As I am indulging in all things British at the moment, I wondered how Jim Henson would be at a British murder mystery. The answer is absolutely fabulous!

In the opening credits, Fozzy complains about how long the credits are taking and says, "Does anyone even read those names?" "Sure," replies Kermit, "they have families." From there Henson takes you on a pure romp of fun, finding the humour in the British, in fashion design, in plot development, in seedy hotels, in Columbo, and in the Muppets themselves. Throughout the film, Henson also plays with the audiences' mind as he breaks down the barrier between the plot and reality. He was an incredibly clever man!

Also, if you have a favorite among the Muppets, yours will probably have his time in the spotlight. My favorites are Beaker and the Swedish Chef, and I was not disappointed in them. However, my appreciation for Kermit, Miss Piggy and Gonzo also grew in this film. (It's been awhile since I watched the Muppets.)

So, all in all, this is a good time for anyone, with humour and creativity there to inspire folks of all ages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for the young and old!
I am 17 years old, and I've loved this video since I was little. It's so hard not to love Winnie the Pooh. It's good for kids because it's just a nice, friendly cartoon with a good lesson at the end. I guess it's good for everyone in that way. Also, any cartoon with "Huffalumps" and "Woozles" is worth buying!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple but sweet, good lesson in friendship, & FUN!
I watched this video with my own children and now have the good fortune to be watching it with my 2 year old grandaughter, who, in this world of high tech, big budget blockbuster cartoon movies was absolutely transfixed when she saw it the first time! She sat in her little red chair and couldn't take her eyes off the screen. Even though the animation isn't as wild and colorful as some of the cartoons out there now, its soft tones and simplicity activate a childs imagination, and you can see that they are absolutely drawn into this timeless tale as the scenes unfold and the pages of the book turn. Winnie the Pooh is ageless, and this is a simply sweet, fun video that has proved it can stand up in a blustery wind to anything out there on the market today!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ahhh... The classical Pooh!
This is my all-time favorite DISNEY series. I've been watching the entire set of tapes for WTP since I was about 2 or 3 and I STILL never get tired of it! There are 3 episodes in all, and if you were to put em together, you'd get what they call "The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh". This is but one of the many chapters that were used in that movie but all 3 used to have to be sold seperately back in the day. However, I was one of the lucky ones to get the COMPLETE VHS boxed-set that had all 3 Pooh-Bear episodes including: "Winnie The Pooh And The Honey "(1966), "Winnie The Pooh And The Blustery Day"(1968), "Winnie the Pooh And Tigger Too!"(1974). Yes, it even had the BONUS episode, "Winnie The Pooh And A Day For Eeyore"(1983). Blustery Day itself, is one of my favorites next to Tigger Too and is a very VERY fun movie! When a terrible storm hits the 100 Acre Wood, Piglet is stranded out at sea during a giant flood! Can Pooh save his friend within the nick of time? You'll just have to watch to find out!! I highly reccomend you add this to your Disney collection and get the kids. They'll love it! BTW, don't pay any attention to those NEWER versions of the classical Pooh. In my opinion, it's just not the same. They don't make 'em like they used to. :(

2-0 out of 5 stars Parents should know before buying
Any parents concerned about their young toddlers or children viewing guns on television may not want to purchase this video. When Pooh is scared at night he gets out his pop gun and starts pacing with it on his shoulder ready to protect himself from any intruders. I was very disappointed in this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Classic!
Out of all the videos that you will find out there, you have to say that this is one of the true classics. This video won an Oscar Award in 1968 for Best Cartoon short subject.

I love this video and it is full of action. This is the kind of video for you if you are someone who likes videos to be full of action. For example, Owl's tree blows down, and Pooh dreams about Heffalumps and Woozles. Behind all of the scary things, like the Heffalumps and Woozles song, the video is kind and it has a message at the end.(If your kids are under 2, Heffalumps and Woozles may be too extreme).

Out of the four classic Winnie the Pooh tales, I believe that this is the most rewarding and deserving because of how it has good voices, animation, color, artwork, and the story is fun. There are a lot of fun songs to get kids to sing along to.

This is a video that I could keep my eyes on for a long time, and it would still be entertaining, because it is fun and there is adventure in every twist and turn.

This is a wonderful kids movie, and it is good for Pooh lovers everywhere and of any age. If you have kids, this video is a must! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Disney Great
I recently rediscovered this film in our video collection. I loved it as a young child and still love it now!

Disney's Robin Hood is so funny! There is plenty of silliness for kids and great humor for adults. I find something new to laugh at with each viewing. My favorite line, however, has to be Prince John's "Hiss! Hiss! You're never around when I need you!" (Hilarious in context, I promise) Portraying the characters as animals works well for the film. It makes the story (a classic itself) more accessible to children. The score is simple, but superb and the songs are delightful. Although, as a University of Illinois fan, I am slightly miffed at the use of 'On, Wisconsin!' for Lady Kluck's football-esque run past a score of King John's guards. This is a great story told in classic Disney style.

Although frequently overlooked, I consider this to be the best film version of Robin Hood and Disney's best movie. Enjoyment is guaranteed.

4-0 out of 5 stars OO-DE-LALLY, golly! What a movie!!
The first movies I can remember watching as a kid are Robin Hood and The Jungle Book. It makes me very curious to read some of the reviews on here that claim that this is a "lesser known" Disney movie, yet so many people have given testimonials about being an adult who still loves this movie. Well... here is my suggestion - buy this movie, a package of microwave popcorn and stake out a spot on the couch with a kid you love and introduce them to this timeless classic!

It is true that the extras are not as great as those on other Disney DVDs (this is a GOLD Collection DVD remember), but are you really buying the DVD for the extras, or for the movie itself? Note to reader: if you answered "extras", then go rent this, rather than buy it. You'll be too disappointed by the one song sing-a-long, storybook option, and brief 16 question quiz to really enjoy your purchase. However, despite being a colorized version of the original, you might get a kick out of the 1933 Mickey cartoon "Ye Olden Days".

Robin Hood is a well-known old English legend, based in part on actual historical people, places and medieval life (ex. King Richard, Price John, Nottingham, caste system, etc). Sounds like a mini history lesson disguised as Disney entertainment! *wink* Older kids might be interested in comparing the Disney version of the story to other film and or book versions of Robin Hood. I know it sounds like I am analysing this too much, but having written a paper on this exact topic for a college english class, I know what I'm talking about. You can't ask for a better assignment than watching a Disney movie, eh?! :)

For whatever reason you choose to watch this DVD, and at whatever age you are, you will love this movie and it will become one of your favorites!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
This is one of the BEST Robin Hood films ever made! I caught this one on Disney when it first came out. I loved the silly king and the goofy vile snake. Such a great classic film. Memories to be made with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A breakthrough in Anthropomorphic characterization!
Disney's version of "Robin Hood" was a breakthrough in the use of Anthropomorphic or "humanized" animals in animation. It was the first time any animation studio created an all-animal cast playing roles usually reserved for humans in a full length movie. It holds a unique place in Disney Animation just for this reason.

Believe it or not, this movie's influence has been far-reaching on the design and stories of later animated movies (Don Bluth's "The Secret of NIMH", Disney's own "Lion King"), many animated television shows ("Ducktales", "TaleSpin"), comic books, video games (Nintendo's "Starfox"), Asian Anime and the growing "Furry" Fandom on the internet today.

The 70's were a uninspired and directionless time for Disney Animation and "Robin Hood" shows the effects of this. The animation is flat and looks cheaply done due to the use of Xeroxing the pencilled animation onto cells instead the precise but expensive way of hand tracing. Some of the animation where characters are dancing was directly copied from "Snow White" and "The Aristocats". When Sir Hiss stares hypnotically into Prince John's eyes for a few seconds - its the same exact animation you saw in 1967's "The Jungle Book". This reuse of animation was fine for Hanna-Barbera and other low-budget TV animation companies but a travesty for Disney which created and set high standards with their animation in the 1930's through the early 1960's (and thankfully recapured some of those standards in the 1990's).

Some characters are recycled from other Disney movies - Little John and Sir Hiss are carbon copies of the Jungle Book's Balloo the bear and Kaa the snake. The songs besides Roger Miller's "Oo-De-Lally" (which was sampled and sped-up for the popular Radio Disney staple "The Hampsterdance") just aren't that memorable or very good. Add to that the direction is very pedestrian with little style or "zing" - typical of most Disney films of the period.

Despite all these flaws the movie is still one of the most charming, fun and entertaining of all of Disney's 1970's output. The biggest reason is the great cast of voice actors - they sound like they were having fun making this movie and their enthusiasm give the characters "life" when the animation doesnt. Peter Ustinov almost steals the movie with his voicing of Prince John. The story is one of the better adaptations of the Robin Hood legend and the script is well paced and full of funny one-liners that might go over the head of young kids but adults will enjoy.

Disney's DVD version is a huge improvement over the old VHS tape from the 80's - but there are still scenes where the colors look washed out from a faded print. Also the movie's soundtrack is still in the original mono. Besides the original trailers and the classic Mickey Mouse short, the extras are only for the kids and not die-hard animation fans. I wish Disney would have spent more time and money for this reissue, restored the color, add archival footage, interviews and remixed the audio for 5:1 stereo like they have done for "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty". This classic movie deserves better than a basic bare-bones presentation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome!
This is a very good movie. My sister and i really enjoyed it. It is not the modern day war etc. movies it is a nice classic movie with a cool plot.
