4-0 out of 5 stars Worth it just for the outtakes
The first part of the tape could be better. I thought the Mary Hart interview was pretty hokey back when it was broadcast. Also, they left out some of the funniest highlights of the series.
The "bloopers" and outtakes are hilarious though and make this tape worth buying. What I'd really like to see is this wonderful TV series in a DVD box set!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Coach fans
The video has excellent out takes at the end, and is a very good retrospective of the entire series. It is slightly dated sine much has happened in the series since this was made, but the clips are very good and span he key elements that made Coach an xcellent show. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Quantum Leap classic
i dont know why they took this show off after only 5 seasons. the pilot episode is great, if you have any questions about quantum leap, this episode will answer all of your questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think it was very awesome in how Sam dealt his merory.
How he dealt with his loss of memory, and also how he jumped into the accelerator just to prove his point on his theory of Quantum physics. Also how he dealt with the premature labor of his (Tom Stratton's) wife.Plus, I think Quantum Leap is cool, But the pilot episode goes above the norm. to FAR-OUT!

4-0 out of 5 stars Needs Complete Season DVD Boxsets!
The Bob Newhart Show is one of my favorite classic shows and I remember watching this show when I was a kid and I also watched reruns on Nick at Nite and TV Land but they are always either changing the schedule or not showing it at all for long periods of time. I really want this show to be released in complete season DVD boxsets and can't believe they haven't done it already. The tape is fine and has good episodes but they would be better on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars includes Episode 81 : Who is Mr. X?
includes epsiode 81 : Who is Mr. X? Bob accepts a seemingly innocent invitation to appear as the guest on a TV discussion program. He winds up in the jaws of a dilemma when the show host turns out to have the disposition of a shark.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bob Newhart never tires out!!
Once again,Bob shows that his character lives on forever. Makes you want to have a friend like him in real life. All the episodes are great. I have seen them all too.The ceiling hits Bob is very good. Jerry,Howard and Carol, are excellent support for Bob. Not to mention his patient like Mr. Carlin. It would be nice to have a peeper series. Bobs old school friend. That would be awesome. I would buy that in a minute. Tom Poston is brillant in that too. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A compromise .
In this episode Sam is a teenager trying to open his sister's mind to the fact that the man she has chosen to marry is a very poor choice . You won't remember much of the episode after seeing it , but it's better than the some of the other bargains offered here .

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best QL episodes

5-0 out of 5 stars Farewell Shelley Long Welcome Kirstie Alley 1987
This spictacular two episodes are one of my favorite episodes in the year 1987.I Do, Audieu is the final episode of Shelley Long (Diane Chambers) when it's time for Sam and Diane's wedding. After a five year on and off relationship they are now ready to be together with a new life and a family. Earlier this season Diane and Sam were in a hilarious fight when couniler Elizabeth Eldlige is dating Sam. This episode is mostly about Sam and Diane's wedding when suddenly proffecor Sumner Sloane comes to Cheers to ask Diane to finish her novel. Sam and Diane both agreed and stopped the wedding for six months when Diane returns. This episode was a sad romantic episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars CHEERS SHOULD LIVE ON FOREVER
Cheers is definetly the best show in the world. You will find this out with I Do, Adieu / Home Is the Sailor tape. I Do, Adieu is Shelly Long / Diane Chamber's final show other than the finale. It is truly wonderful seeing the cast as old timers. Home Is the Sailor is picked up where we left off. Sam was sailing around the world and comes back to see Cheers under new management: the sexy Rebecca Howe. The don't hit it off but some antics come along with Sam trying to get his job back. This is the best show ever. There should be like a Christmas TV movie or something with the cast. Anyway tune into Fraiser in April to see Carla, Cliff, and Norm on the show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodbye, Diane Chambers and Hello, Rebecca Howe
Volume 11 in the "Cheers" series marks the transition from Shelley Long to Kirstie Alley as female lead on the classic sitcom. "I Do, Adieu" (Original Airdate: 05/07/87), the last episode from Season 5, finds Sam and Diane finally heading for the altar. But then Summer Sloane (Michael McGuire), who dumped Diane off at Cheers in the pilot episode, returns to tempt Diane with finishing her novel and getting it sold. Diane declines the offer, but Sam, having envisioned growing old with the woman he loves, thinks Diane should pursue her dream. The final shot of Sam and Diane, an old couple dancing in their living room, is truly touching. This episode, #121 in the series, was written by Les and Glen Charles, and is vastly superior to the series finale.

Season 6 begins with "Home Is the Sailor" (Original Airdate: 09/24/87), where we find out Sam sold the bar and used the money to travel around the world on a sailboat to forget Diane. Unfortunately Sam's book sunk and he finds the bar is now being managed by Rebecca Howe, who has instituted lots of changes (Carla and Woody are wearing cute little uniforms). Already having Wayne as her main bartender, Rebecca agrees to hire Sam as part-time help. Now all the gang has to do is find a way to get rid of Wayne. Also written by the Charles brothers, this episode was directed (as all of them were) by James Burrows.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where Everybody Knows Your Name &They're Always Glad You...
...BOUGHT THIS! :)

When I first saw Shelley Long's final show, "I Do Adieu", I cried and cried and cried until I became a raisin! When I first saw Kirstie Alley's first show, "Home Is the Sailor", I said, "Hello, Kirstie!"

Both actresses delivered a remarkable character to life-- of course, everyone on the show did!

I wished the people at Cheers didn't put in the dream scene at the end, Sam and Diane danced as old couple because it was the saddest thing to see since they weren't going to be like that! :(

At first, I wasn't sure if I was going to like Kirstie Alley, but I watched her first show--- I immediately fell in love with her. I know everyone in the cast did and the world, too!

Sam Malone, wonderfully played by Ted Danson, was last seen in the bar saying, "Adieu" to Diane, and in the next show, "Sailor", Sam was begging to get his bar position back after being gone for a long time on his boat. Rebecca put him in a position that he didnt want to be in, but later on the series, Sam sorta took over Rebecca's position.... Now, can anyone tell me WHAT EXACTLY WAS REBECCA DOING FOR A JOB AT CHEERS??? Everyone doesn't know the answer including herself! Sheesh! :)

Ahh.... I love LOVE L O V E Cheers!

Cheers! --Carrie Montoney ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sam finds its a whole new world when he leaps into Samantha
Sam leaps into a woman in "What Price Gloria? - October 16, 1961" (Episode #13, October 25, 1989). Samantha Stormer is a gorgeous secretary for an automobile company, which means he has to deal with not only being sexually harassed by his boss (John Calvin) and a suicide attempt by his roommate (Jean Segal), but the effect Samantha's looks are having on Al. Not a classic episode of "Quantum Leap," but certainly above average as Sam gets to see how the other half lives. As always, the chief charm is Scott Bakula's completely convincing performance. Written by Deborah Pratt, this episode was directed by Alan J. Levi.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think Sam's first leap into a woman was funny.
I felt it was funny to see Sam's first foray into a woman's body, although I didn't think Samantha looked that pretty when they showed her in the mirror. But the episode itself was good. September 7, 1999-

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting to see Sam's first leap into a woman.
I thought it was funny to see the first episode where Sam leaped into a woman, although I think the actress who played Samantha's image in the mirror could have been prettier if the plot was partly about Al's reaction to Sam. - September 7, 1999

4-0 out of 5 stars Good story
kind of interesting when he finds himself as a woman and he acted well. since this is the first time he is a woman this will captavate the viewer into this one. I thought it was pretty good.

3-0 out of 5 stars One of the few gems from QL's '89-'90 season
Thank god one of four good episodes("Honeymoon Express","Disco Inferno", this one,and "MIA") from Quatum Leap's second season made it out on video. This Episode has some really cliched moments(pretty much anything Gloria says) but the great humor make up for that. Scott Bakula gives a great performance. One of the series best episodes. ... These eposiods of diane were very funny! This is a must see.You will laugh and laugh.Carla was very, very funny....

5-0 out of 5 stars Diane has to deal with Andy Andy and old pal Julia Duffy
These two first-season episodes in the "Cheers" collection present "The Best of Diane Chambers." In "Diane's Perfect Date" (Original Airdate: 02/10/83), Sam and Diane have been criticizing each other's dates so they agree to fix each other up with the "perfect date." Sam is convinced that Diane has herself in mind for him, so when she shows up with her friend Gretchen (Gretchen Corbett) he grabs the first person who comes through the door to go out with Diane. Unfortunately, Andy Andy (Derek McGrath) has just gotten out of jail. This episode, #17 in the show's history for those keeping count of such things, was written by David Lloyd and directed by James Burrows. Note: Andy Andy makes a memorable return appearance the following season in "Homicidal Ham."

"Any Friend of Diane's" finds her old college friend Rebecca Prout (Julia Duffy) looking for a shoulder to cry on after her marriage fails. Eying Sam, Rebecca decides a good old-fashioned fling is in order. Sam tries to resist her out of a sense of loyalty to Diane, but loyalty only goes so far. The subplot finds Norm bringing his boss to the bar and getting everybody to pretend he does not hang out at the bar all the time. Written by David Isaacs and directed by James Burrows, this is episode #6.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious episodes!
Both episodes are hilarious!!! "Diane's Perfect Date" cracks me up whenever I get the chance to watch it. Sam and Diane agreed to find each other a date... Diane found an attractive and intelligent date for Sam, but he couldn't find anyone for Diane! He spotted a guy who was so opposite of Diane, but there was so much more than to this! I love the part when they all four arrived at the bar from their date, and Shelley Long was HILARIOUS! :) Check it out!

"Any Friends Of Diane"-- Diane was determined to find a companion for her friend, Rebecca Prout (played by Julia Duffy). After hearing Rebecca's detailed description on what she wanted to seek in a man, Diane immediately thought of a perfect man for her. Rebecca had someone else specific in her head--- SAM! Oh, woe is Diane! :) Again, check this out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Two episodes of Cheers focusing on the beloved Coach
This second volume in the "Cheers" series presents two episodes from the show's first season both focusing on the beloved Coach. "Coach Returns to Action," (Original Airdate: 11/25/82) finds him inviting a woman from his apartment building down to the bar. He has a secret crush on the girl, so when Sam starts hitting on her, Coach needs to do something fast. Sworn to secrecy by Coach, Diane tries to get Sam to back off, but he just thinks she is jealous. However, Coach has a secret play. Meanwhile, Carla is working on the plumbing in the restrooms forcing everyone to use the facilities upstairs at Melvilles. This episode, #9 for those of you counting, was written by Earl Pomerantz and directed by James Burrows.

"Pick a Con...Any Con" features Harry Anderson as Harry "The Hat" Gittes. Coach has been playing gin games every day with George Wheeler (Reid Shelton). But when the gang finds out Coach has been losing large amounts of money they realize he is being fleeced. To get even with George the gang enlists Harry's help. But who is conning who here? This episode, #19 in the series, was written by David Angell and directed by James Burrows. Personal note: for an episode focusing on Coach, I would have preferred they did "The Coach's Daughter" with Allyce Beasley, the episode they re-aired when Nicholas Colasanto died a few years later. That one still brings a tear to my eyes.

5-0 out of 5 stars CHEERS THE BEST TELEVISION SITCOM EVER WRITTEN?
Without a doubt "Pick a con any con" is Cheers at it's finest. Harry Anderson's debut as Harry the hat stands out as his best work to date. I strongly recommend "Cheers Volume 2" to anyone who just wants laugh themselves silly! ... Read more

...I do not think that thes two eposidos of sam and diane are not there very best.THey needed the last 2 episiods when shelly long came back.I think shelly was very good on the show....

4-0 out of 5 stars Could be better
I really like these episodes; however, I personally think that these are not the "Best of Sam and Diane." There are surely much better episodes that could be placed under that category. I don't think that this really captures the esscence of the relationship between the two.

5-0 out of 5 stars three cheers for cheers
hi i think you should relly consider theis one it is the best i have seen yet and i relly love it it makes you just want more cheers and it makes you wish it was non fiction but you alwasy find ouut its not real but give it a chance it wont let you down

5-0 out of 5 stars Can Sam and Diane live happily ever after? Absolutely not.
Volume 7 in the "Cheers" collection offers us "The Best of Sam and Diane." The common theme is actually that others might be coming between the happy couple. The first episode is "Power Play," the season premier from the show's second year (Original Airdate: 09/29/83). When last we left Sam and Diane they had finally kissed and now the gang at Cheers has to deal with the new relationship between the two. Not everyone is happy with the new state of affairs, especially Carla. Later than same season, "Just Three Friends" throws Markie Post into the mix as Diane's old friend Heather Landon, whose flirting with Sam makes May Day uncomfortable (Original Airdate: 12/15/83). He confesses this to Diane who assures him there is no problem, so Sam becomes just friends with Heather (a new relationship for him to be sure), but now Diane is the one who has serious doubts. Meanwhile, back at Cheers, the gang has an attack dog in Sam's office. Both of these episodes (#23 and #33 if you are counting) are written by the Charles brothers and directed by Jim Burroughs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Classic U.S Sitcom
Paramounts smash hit sitcom, Cheers enjoyed an astoundingly successful run between 1982 - 1993. In that time, a total of 270 episodes were made and (purley from my own personal opinion) most of the series finest episodes were amongst the first handful of seasons which saw the odd but enjoyable match of Ted Danson and the adorable Shelley Long who played neurotic accademic, Diane Chambers to utter perfection. Ted Danson is equally effective who is the central figure in the series, running the aptly named Cheers bar. He plays the likeable Sam Malone whose previous claim to fame had been as a relief pitcher for the Boston Red Scox baseball team. Diane Chambers arrives at Cheers with her snobbish fiancee. He leaves her alone at Cheers whilst he says he'd be back within the hour - he doesn't show up and knowing full well she'd been jilted in favour for someone else she takes a job as a barmaid at Cheers which soon brings her more down to earth and likeable and slowly succumbs to Sam's boyish charm. Their rocky on-off relationship was fun to watch and both spark off each other and show naturalistic affection for each other making it all the more beleavable. Giving superb backing support is Rhea Perlman as the tough-talking, fiery Carla who provides many laughs through the series. Her timing and witty delivery is simply immpecable and was a key element in making the series such a clear winner.
These collection of episodes are classics and remind you of what a fantastically, well-written series this truly was. Give Me A Ring Sometime was the fabulous premier episode where Sam and Diane first meet, Sam At Eleven is where a local sports writer interviews Sam but the story is cut from going on air. Truce Or Consequences is of particular interest where it features some well-crafted scenes between Shelley Long and Rhea Perlman who both sparkle through the diaogue. Carla lies to Diane about Sam and on finding out Diane is enraged with anger. There truly is some hilarious moments in this one and the climax of the episode is wonderfully funny. The Boys In Blue is also another classic where Sam discovers his best friend is gay and has to forced to face up to his prejudices at the insistence of Diane.
Each and episode is excellent and a must see and the acting is superb all-round with the rest of the regulars at Cheers being Norm Peterson, well known for his usual seating spot on the corner of the bar, Coach played brilliantly by Nicholas Calasanto and Cliff Clavin, played by John Ratzenberger. All actors shine to perfection, complimenting the tremendous scripts that rides along like a roller coaster. A classic, feel-good, consistently amusing and essential U.S sitcom that was rewarded in its day with several awards for its outstanding appeal!

5-0 out of 5 stars Like a fine one-act play
Seeing this recently, I was reminded how much Cheers' premiere was paced like a fine one-act play. The humor was smart, the acting wonderful. This went well beyond normal TV fare. It's hard to match this.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Cheers Pilot, where everybody gets to learn their names
"Give Me A Ring Sometime," the pilot episode for the celebrated television sitcom "Cheers," still stands up 20 years later. Sam "May Day" Malone (Ted Danson), the ex-Red Sox relief pitcher and recovering alchoholic, runs his Boston bar with the less than able assistance of his old pitching coach Ernie Pantusso (Nicholas Colasanto) and Carla Torteli (Rhea Perelman), the wise-cracking waitress. Into this madhouse comes Diane Chambers (Shelley Long), a teaching assistant about to leave for the Caribbean with her current fiance and former literature professor, Summer Sloan (Michael McGuire). By the end of the episode Diane has been jilted, Sam offers her a job as a waitress, and the rest is televison history. Written by Glen Charles & Les Charles, the script sells us on the characters right away. My only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen more bar arguments like the one they have in this episode concerning "the Sweatiest Movie" of all time. Summer Sloan might be a nattering boob, but the man does know his sweaty films. This tape is the first volume in the "Cheers" series.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Premiere Episode!
Yep, the very first Cheers! Diane Chambers and her fiance come into Cheers to make a telephone call on their way to a romantic wedding in the Caribbean. Diane's fiance has to leave for a bit, but never returns. Sam makes the biggest mistake of his life when he offers Diane a job. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars sad but beautiful
Wonderful performances by Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. Great plot. Loved it. Just one of the many reasons Quantum Leap should have lasted longer than it did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely One of The BEST Quantum Leap Episodes Ever
This episode is extremely satisfying for anyone who is familiar with the series and especially the Sam-Al relationship. It is a definite tour-de-force for Scott Bakula's acting talents, as it is a rare time when he not only plays Sam Beckett but "becomes" those he has previously leapt into. I highly recommend this episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quantum Leap at its best
This is by far one of the best Quantum Leap episodes there is. Sam loses touch with his reality due to a shock therapy treatment and "becomes" people that he has previously leaped into. This causes the project to almost lose contact with Sam for good. This episode has some great suspense as Al fights to make Sam realize who he is all the while fading in nd out as Ziggy fights to keep contact. The episode has a wonderful surprise ending as well, and its a great shame the companion episode hasn't been released on video as well. Anyway, this one is well worth a few bucks and will provide you hours of enjoyment as it is worth watching again and again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased and want more
I was so pleased to watch this video again. My hope is that soon I can order the last show. It is very nice to see this and be able to remember so many more of the people Sam had helped.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite episodes!
Shock theater is one of my favorite episodes. The acting is great and very touching and Dean Stockwell and Scott Bakula give emotional performances. The episode keeps you on the edge of your seat and entertained. My only complaint is that other episodes are not on video, I wish they were. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Sam in black .
This is the best episode of the first season . This was the first success of the brand new series in touching my heart , in helping to understand how is it to walk in someone else's shoes , and especially , in a black man's shoes . As for the story itself , Sam leaps into a black man in the early Sixties and refuses to suffer from the discrimination and segregation blacks endured on those days .

This is one of the best plotted , directed , acted and remembered Quantom Leap's episode of all time...

4-0 out of 5 stars Different in a good way
this one also a first being a Black person that is. this one deals with racial prejustice and segregration one scott's better preformances. it also showed the black strugle through the fifties. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars There were better ones .
My advise is to avoid this episode . It is quite a surprise they released it on VHS and with a price tag of [price]!!! There were a whole lot better ones and with the same amount of money you can get your hands on one of the best (double!) episodes of the series called "The leap home" ...

In case you're the long lost fan that just want to buy some good old episodes , I'm aware of the fact that the variety of chapters offered here is extremely modest calling you to buy whatever you can - Don't . Believe me , there were much better performances of our heroes , some of them do exist in the...library .

As for the plot itself , Sam leaps to a retarded fellow that just got out of an institution with the help of his brother , who now is trying to find him a job . We witness and identify with the difficulties a slow man faces on everyday basis . Sam feels how it's like to do almost everything wrong , despite his good intentions .

This is certainly not a smash hit - spend your money on other episodes that are for sale in here and for a reasonable cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great episode from a great show!
Why this show was cancelled is beyond me. Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell are a great team and together create real emotional depth as Dr. Sam Beckett and Al Calavicci. The science of the show is not as riveting to me as is the camaraderie between the two leads, who basically carried the show. Bakula is an actor of great versatility and style, and he plays Sam with a sweet befuddlement that is nowhere more apparent than this episode. Sam's body betrays him as he leaps into the developmentally disabled "Jimmy." He cannot seem to do anything right and it is desperately important that he not be sent back to the institution. Jimmy's sister-in-law grows more and more annoyed as Jimmy breaks plates and generally disrupts her house. Jimmy's brother and nephew accept him as he is, but Jimmy must prove himself to his brother's wife and does so in a heroic way. The usually-wisecracking Al shows a tender side as he pleads with Sam not to give up on Jimmy, giving us know a little more insight into his life.

Definitely a worthwhile episode to own. Easy to see why Bakula won a Golden Globe for his work on this series!

4-0 out of 5 stars Jimmy

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Very Best!
Amazing, bittersweet episode in which Dr. Sam Beckett leaps into himself at age 16 in Elk Ridge, Indiana 1969. Both Bakula and Stockwell give one of their greatest performances in this heartwarming third season opener. Sam wants to save his brother Tom from dying in Vietnam on April 8, 1970. Al reminds him that "you can't change something that isn't meant to be changed."-the same words Sam gave Al in episode "M.I.A." when Al wanted to save his marriage to his first wife Beth. Incidentally, "M.I.A" came right before "The Leap Home". While trying save Tom, Sam is also trying to save the rest of his family from misfortune- a sister who marries an abusing drunk and a father who dies of heart failure in '72. The ending of this wonderful 2-parter reveals a great sacrifice that Al had to pay in order for his best friend Sam to save his brother. Completely unforgettable!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sam leaps home and tries to save his brother's life
I am ashamed to admit that the two-parts of "The Leap Home" were the first episodes of "Quantum Leap" that I ever watched. Of course, once it was over I never missed another episode of this most unique television series starring Scott Bakula. Part I, "The Leap Home - November 25, 1969" (Episode #32, September 28, 1990), finds Sam has leaped into himself at the age of 16. Ziggy says Sam is home to help his team win the state high school basketball championship but Sam insists he is going to save his father (also played by Bakula) from dying, his sister (Olivia Burnette) from marrying the wrong man, and his brother Tom (David Newsom) from dying in Vietnam. At one point Sam actually tries to convince them he knows the future, until his singing John Lennon's "Imagine" terrifies his sister. At the end he wins the game, but Al informs him Tom still dies in Vietnam. Sam calls his brother's name and leaps into "Magic," a Navy SEAL in his brother's squad in Vietnam.

"The Leap Home, Part II (Vietnam) - April 7, 1970" (#33, October 5, 1990), takes place in the days before Tom Beckett's death in Vietnam. Sam does not know if he is there to prevent Tom's death or simply to ensure that his mission is a success. Trying to do both, Sam uses a female reporter (Andrea Thompson) to help him out. But in the end he learns that saving one life effects others. The surprising consequences that his efforts have provides one of the biggest shocks I have ever seen on television. Absolutely stunning and a scene that continues to bring tears to my eyes. Tia Carrere is in this episode as a Vietnamese woman. Not surprisingly, both parts of "The Leap Home" were written by series creator Donald P. Bellisario. This is epic television of the first rank. It simply does not get any better than this, people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Likely the best tv episode I've seen
While I've certainly not seen every television show ever made, I've seen quite a bit. I'm not a huge QL fan, but I don't know if I've ever seen anything this good. Not perfect, but I still tear up a little thinking about the ending. Try to see parts 1 and 2 consecutively if you can.
You must see the whole thing in order to truly 'get it.' This 2-part show would be very good without the ending, very moving with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quantum Leap: The Leap Home
"Quantum Leap" is my favorite show of all time and I never missed an episode. I wish it never went off the air! I have to say that my favorite episodes are "The Leap Home" when Sam leaps into himself as a teenager and then into his brother's sqad in Vietnam. The two parts are extremely moving. The very last scene of part two still gives me chills. The acting is superb by both Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell (as always). I highly recommend "The Leap Home" and any of the other episodes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Unfair Trading Practices!
These videos are excellent and well worth buying. I am, however, extremely disappointed that Quantum Leap is NOT available to English customers. On www.amazon.co.uk, Quantum Leap is only available in the books. Which sadly fail to live up to the series. Why are the videos only for sale to America and Canada.

5-0 out of 5 stars TV Gold
Watching these old Cheers episodes just conviinces me all the more that in the beginning, Cheers was parallel to Seinfeld, Mash and any other great American sitcom, sadly this couldn't be said by the end of the show's run. Boys in the bar is the first episode to properly explore Sam's character and morals, by the end of the show's run, it was hard to tell whether Sam still had a personality. Let me count the ways is, in my opinion, one of the greatest Cheers episodes. In the show's early years, the beauty of the writing was in how out of place Dinae was in the bar, and the the rest of the gang reacted in contrast. This episode also proves the sprak that actors Ted Danson and Shelley Long created were when put together (although it was said Sam and Diane's bitter squabbling spilled over into the on-set atmosphere.) In my opinion, it was this spark that was the soul of the whole show, I rarely watched once Kirstie Alley came on board, all that was left was great characters, while the writing had no real focus. But watch these classic episodes, and you're watching some of the best television ever written.

4-0 out of 5 stars One classic and one average Cheers first season episode
This 3rd Volume in the "Cheers" collection offers a couple of episodes from the show's first season. "The Boys in the Bar" (Original Airdate: 01/27/83) finds Tom Kenderson (Alan Autry) coming by the bar to ask for Sam's support for his autobiography. Of course, Sam has not read the book and has to be told by Diane that in it Tom "comes out of the closet." Sam is thrown, but in the end he supports his friend. When gays start frequenting the bar, the gang decide they have to take matters into their own hands to stop Cheers from becoming a gay bar. The teaser for this episode has Harry Anderson helping Diane cover the pool table. Written by Ken Levine and David Isaacs, this episode was directed by James Burrows and is #16 for those keeping count.

"Let Me Count the Ways" (Original Airdate: 01/13/83) finds the gang trying to provide emotional support for Diane after her cat dies. Meanwhile, having received a hot tip Sam and Coach actually bet against the Celtics (secretly, of course). Rhea Perlman's sister Heide this episode, #14, which was directed by James Burrows. Actually, he directed all of them. This tape really deserves 4 1/2 stars. "Boys in the Bar" is certainly a 5, one of the early episodes to demonstrate Sam had some substance. But "Let Me Count the Ways" is an average "Cheers" episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential QL
Like Shock Theatre and The Leap Home, Catch a Falling Star is a "must have" for any true Quantum Leap lover. This episode showcases Scott Bakula's singing talent. The episode was written using Man of La Mancha as a metaphor for the friendship between Sam and Al for Don Quiote and Sancho. Very moving.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sam tackles "The Impossible Dream" on stage
"Catch a Falling Star-May 21, 1979" (Episode #18, December 6, 1989) is the memorable episode of "Quantum Leap" where Scott Bakula's Sam Beckett gets a chance to show off his singing talent. The story line finds Sam leaping into Ray Hutton, the understudy for Don Quixote in "Man of La Mancha." Ziggy tells Sam he has to prevent the show's drunken star, John O'Malley (John Cullum), from falling and seriously hurting himself during a benefit performance of the show. Complicating things is the fact that O'Malley has designs on Nicole (Michele Pawk), the understudy for Aldonza/Dulcinea. It seems she used to be Sam's piano teacher and he had a big time crush on her. Those saw Cullum on "Northern Exposure," or who remember him as Rutledge in the movie version of "1776," already know the man can sing, but watching Bakula tackle Don Quixote on stage is a great treat (be sure to check out the end credits for the cast's curtain calls). Janine Turner, another future "Northern Exposure" star, plays Michelle in this episode, which is my favorite lightheated one from the series. "Catch a Falling Star" was written by Paul Brown and directed by "Quantum Leap" creator Donald P. Bellisario.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magnificent!
Scott Bakula's vocal talent is evident in this great episode! The music will keep you humming for days. You can't help but feel for Sam, as he works along side his old piano teacher, who sees him as an old flame, not as the Sam who had a crush on her when he was a child. Great story, Great music!

5-0 out of 5 stars Man of La Mancha
The Man of La Mancha is the perfect story plot for Scott Bakula. When he was just getting started in acting he was in the musical which gave him a leg up for the show. Also the fact that Don Quixote and Poncho were side kicks gives the viewer a look at Sam (Scott Bakula) and Al's (Dean Stockwell) relationship. It showed the love and affection partners can have for one another on top of an already on going plot surrounded by guest stars. I loved the show it was full of love and pasion, hate and jealousy. It's my favorite episode! ... Read more
