BASIC PLOT: SERIES OPINIONS: DVD: OVERALL:
The Waterfowers of Cerulean City - Ash arrives at the Cerulean City Gym, but when he enters it, there does not seem to be any sign of a Gym Leader. In fact, a water ballet is being preformed! Will Ash find the Gym Leader and earn his next badge? The Path to the Pokemon League - Heading for Vermilion City, Ash stops by an unauthorized Gym, with a leader who has won 98 matches in a row! Can Ash beat this powerful trainer? Either way, he learns an important lesson about Pokemon. The School of Hard Knocks - The three friends stop while in a deep forest for a rest, when Ash finds a group of boys bullying another. Ash later learns that these boys go to the Pokemon Seminar School, the most well respected Pokemon School in the region. But can Ash figure out why so many of the students are so unhappy? The video/audio is no more, no less than you could ask for on a TV show. Overall, a great buy for a fan of the series. Followed by "Poke-Friends".

In short, this video is great. Now, after Mewtwo came and went in the first series, we will all just have to sit back, relax, and await his return in Johto. "But still..." Gary's voice dropped to almost a whisper, a slight tremble in his countenance. "No one will ever defeat the Pokémon that I saw..."

"Pikachu and Pichu", a mini movie that takes place in the big city where the Pichu bros. try their best to guide Pikachu back home before Ash Ketchum notices his Pokemon are missing. It's very funny to see those Pokemon fight against 1 obstacle after another. Ha! Ha! Ha! "Spell of the Unown", a major movie that takes place in the hilariously bizzare wasteland of Greenfield where everything turns to crystal. Sounds creepy does it? But not only that, you get to meet Entei, a legendary Fire-type Pokemon with the best Pokemon voice, unlike Mewtwo and Lugia which are just plain wimps. That's because those other 2 Pokemon that first existed in Pokemon 1 and 2 tend to have bad voices, but this one has a good voice. What I do like about this movie: "Pikachu and Pichu" has really huge laughs, unlike "Pikachu's Vacation" and "Pikachu's Rescue Adventure", plus it has more G/S Pokemon, which is superior. "Spell of the Unown" has really good animation, good laughs, and good voices, unlike "Mewtwo Strikes Back" and "The Power of One", plus it has 3 soundtracks that has you moving and grooving to the beat, along with 2 excellent looking Pokemon (Unown and Entei) and 3 forms of the final boss, Molly. What I don't like about this movie: "Pikachu and Pichu" may tend to get annoying and loud at times during the film. "Spell of the Unown" is a movie that could be too creepy for little kids, plus it's way too loud! Ahhh! I'm sure this review will help all of you, but I'll see ya in the Special movie, Mewtwo Returns on December 4, 2001. Good luck! You'll need it!

However, I'm pleased to say that this film is generally much better than the first Pokemon movie. The plot involves a Pokemon collector called Laurence III who wants to capture the three Legendary birds Articuno. Zapdos and Moltres - or the Gods of Ice, Lightning and Fire as they're called here. Unfortunately, this creates a huge problem with Earth's weather patterns, causing violent storms and snow, and it is left up to Ash to get them back, and return things to normal. There are some little hints to the possibility of an Ash/Misty romance in this film - when Ash arrives on the island at the beginning of the movie, a girl called Melody kisses Ash on the cheek which makes Misty really jealous, as well as some other cute moments. Sadly, in spite of an improved plot I believe that, as before, the choice of music stands out as the film`s downfall and the producers haven`t learnt from the mistakes they made in the first film. Apart from a few exceptions ("The Legend Comes To Life" is a wonderful track), this movie replicates the same pop-styled rubbish used in the First Movie. The remix of the TV theme song ("Pokemon World" performed by Youngstown & Nobody's Angel) is absolutely horrible, with a scratchy beat and synthesized vocals. The campaign to ban vocoders starts here... Next time round, I would like to see a better choice of music which is less pop-orientated, but I`m not holding my breath... Overall though, in spite of the terrible soundtrack, this is a major improvement on the First Movie which I think any Pokemon fan should add to their collection.
Pros: NONE Cons:

The first Advanced Generation movie features many new changes that I'm asuming will be present for the future films as well. There's no opening music video with the theme song, giving a bit more mature look. The intro is different as well, with the new changes to have the film fit the changes the series went through as well. I was surprised with Jirachi Wish Maker (in the Japanese version called The Wishing Star of the Seven Nights). It stared Max more so than any other character...even Jirachi. Personally, I liked that because Max is one of my favorite characters. There are several adorable scenes featuring Max and Jirachi, and you can't help but feel bad for Max by the end. Jirachi Wish Maker also featured a lot of romance, something that most wouldn't expect in a Pokemon movie. No, it's not between any of the main characters...it's with the two new ones Butler and Diane, who guest star in this film. But for those looking for a little "shipping" with the main characters, hints of pokeshipping are given. As far as art/animation and so forth, what can I say, the Pokemon movies are excelent. The animation's smooth (even better than the TV series) and has an interresting detailing to the backgrounds that are quite eye-catching. Another nice thing was the singer of the Japanese theme sang the English version as well, and is very beautifull. My only grudge was that pace can seem slow at first, but picks up heavily as the story progresses. For an 80-min film that covers a span of seven days, nothing seems rushed at all, though I wish they didn't save all the action and drama for the final day... but all great movies save the best things for last, right? As for the Pikachu mini-movie: Gotta' Dance, I found it was the funniest of all the mini-movies so far. Perhaps not the best, but the funniest. Though I'm not overly nuts over the mini-movies, and the main featurettes really what I'm talking about, on that subject, I found it was highly entertaining for a 20-min short (Meowth is downright hilarious!). Overall, Jirachi Wish Maker is excelent and a must for Pokemon fans. Viewers unfamiliar with the show don't have to worry too much, because a breif intro to the series is given in the begining. Despite the slightly slow beginning pace, I found it great and was a nice change from the usuall Pokemon films with a bright atmosphere and darker inside. Though it's not my absolute favorite Pokemon film (my two tops are the 4th and 5th films) it's pretty close. It's very adorable, entertaining, and recomendable!
anyway, the song 'make a wish' was the best part of the movie. great vocal (both jap. and english) and good lyrics. the special feautures of the movie isnt so fasinating, though. the pokemon short is the third worst short behind the two pichu movies ( i HATED those two!). now the movie. the movie went a different way this time......instead of jirachi (the wish-making pokemon) befriending ash, it befriends a new guy named max. therefore, ash is sort of a minor charector. this movie also had a romantic side to it ( butler and diane) which i thought was laughable. every time she said 'ill do anything to have the old butler back' or he said 'ill do anything to be with diana' i just soared into a fit of laughter. it was just so cheesy! o well, anyway, this movie also kind of annoyed me that they never told may's wish, which was probably ' i wish to be the worlds greatest pokemon master'...but they still never told it! i was thinking if that was what she had wished for.........she is so so selfish! how about ur little brother and his new best friend?! wish that they could stay together!!!! thats what i had hoped for...but no luck. so, all in all, it is a fairly decent movie and i recommend it to all loyal pokemon fans. ... "For Crying Out Loud!" featuring Marill, the aqua mouse pokemon from Pokemon The Movie's 1 and 2. This pokemon cries a lot of times, making this episode the most hilarious of the bunch! Wah! "Tanks a Lot!" featuring Sentret, the scout pokemon. This episode reminds me of being in the Army Nations when the soldiers shout "Ten hut!" Pretty cool huh? And finally, "Charizard's Burning Ambitions", an episode where Ash Ketchum releases Charizard out of his hands. Uh oh! The reason why I'm goin' to love this ultimate volume is because of the following: 1. The episode "For Crying Out Loud!" reminds me of crying a lot of times when I was a kid! What a shame! But it's fun to see Marill cry out indefinitely. 2. The episode "Tanks a Lot!" contains soldiers that look so real to me. 3. The episode "Charizard's Burning Ambitions" is an episode where Ash Ketchum tries to get in the door. But that didn't work! Once again, thank you for your cooperation on what to rank. On the other hand, all of you pokemon trainers out there will want to see Marill and Sentret-they look cool, they're very cute, and they play very important roles. So if you caught those pokemon in Pokemon Puzzle Challenge on GBC, now is your chance to see those pokemon on TV. You'll love it! For volume numbers 7 and 8, I'll see ya in September 2001. "Spinarak Attack", featuring Spinarak, the strange spider pokemon from Pokemon 3: The Movie. "Snubbull Snobbery", featuring Snubbull, the funny bulldog pokemon from Pokemon 1: The Movie. And "The Little Big Horn", featuring Stantler, the deer pokemon who got himself hit in the shin. Yow! The reason why I'm goin' to love this volume is because of the following: 1. When I was a kid when I went camping, a spider ran up to me and bit me! Yow! That's what "Spinarak Attack" will have. 2. Way back in 1997, I got bit by a Rotweiler! Ack! That's what "Snubbull Snobbery" will have. 3. Way back in 1998, somebody kicked me in the shin. Nooo! That's what "The Little Big Horn" will have. Thank you for your cooperation on what to rank. For all of you pokemon trainers out there, watch out for dangers lurking by! Because those episodes contain violent scenes, so be careful. And good luck!

Amazon.com Would you really expect the makers of this worldwide phenomenon to radically change its winning formula? The feature is only 55 minutes long, but there's also a 20-minute short, "Pikachu's Vacation." For the Pokémon novice, this escapade will truly baffle: the narrated talehas virtually no dialogue except Pokémon speaking their names (Bulbasaur, for instance, will only express emotion by using variations of his name: "Bulba, Bulba-SAUR!"). It's a real curio. --Doug Thomas Reviews (202)
The storyplot is basically about this Pokemon named Mewtwo who decides all humans are evil after some expieriences with some people who wanted to control him and study him. He calls our heroes to the greatest battle of their life and soon Ash, Misty, Brock, Pikachu, and some other trainers are the only ones who can stop Mewtwo's plans for world domination. Unlike the TV show, this has a much more dramatic and action packed plot. I reccomend it to any person who likes a good movie.
First of all, great story! It kept me interested till the end. Also, this is the first and last movie were the graphics behind the charectors isn't to advanced for the actual charectors. Ya know, for example, in Pokemon: 4ever, the big Celebi wood thing at the end was too 3-d. It looked like something from pixar. That's whats good about pokemon the first. Also, it has a great moral to it too. All the other movies are pretty much the same: if you want something bad enough and you try, you get it, or: don't be afraid, or: try your best. This movie's is: it doesn't matter how u were born (in this movie, cloned or born, but in real life, what u look like), but how you look at life and how you decide to live it is what really matters. The only thing that could be better in it is the 'violence'. It's not really violent like blood or killing or anything like that, it's more like 'fighting to the point of death' sort of thing. But that brings me back to the moral of the story, which is the reason they were fighting in the first place. Also, this movie is sort of sad. I mean, for a while, the main charector actually dies! Then his best friend, Pikachu, is all sad and then he is trying as hard as he can to bring him back to life...........well you know the rest. Anyway, all in all, this movie is one of my favorite cartoon movies and the very best Pokemon movie! This is a must-have for anyone who is at least interested in Pokemon!!!!!

1. We start off with The Stolen Stones which isn't a bad filler, probably the best on the video. Ash and co. meet up with a brother and sister who run an Archanine delivery service. Team Rocket steal some evolution stones from them and it's up to Ash and friends to get them back. This one is quite memorable for Team Rocket's antics. They get quite a bit of screentime. 2. Next up is Ariados Amigos, the worst on the video in my opinion. Our heroes meet up with Aya from Fushia City gym again and she teaches them about Pokémon jujitsu. Yawn. 3. Finally, a cutesy episode - Apple Corp - ends the video. Ash and friends visit an orchard were Pichu are stealing apples. If you are a Pikachu or Pichu fan you will probably enjoy it. I don't mind it too much. Overall, not a great offering. I'd wait for a video with more gym episodes. Filler episodes (which these three are) never affect the storyline so you aren't missing anything at all. ... Read more | |
