4-0 out of 5 stars HOUSE CALL
If nothing else, this movie definitely supports those people who say you shouldn't be sending out kids to sell cookies door to door! CHRISTINA'S HOUSE is a lot better than I anticipated, and had some really chilling scenes, and director Gavin Wilding did well with his young actors, especially Allison Lange and the young lad who played her brother (come on Amazon, let's get these cast lists out more often!!!).
STORY: It's confusing at times, and I'm not sure exactly what kind of "powers" the mother has, but it is definitely original, and has a lot of twists and turns. SCORE: 4
CAST: Brendan Fehr as Eddie has the right combination of rugged looks and teenage smarm to play a character we never fully trust; and where does his body go? Allison Lange in her screen debut does well at times, particularly in here lower key scenes; however when she has to be terrified or angry, she goes a little overboard. John Savage does well as the father and Brad Rowe as the hunky handyman is very good. SCORE: 4
DIRECTION: As stated above, Wilding handles the film and its actors well; uses lighting effectively and some good jump out of the dark scares. SCORE: 4

4-0 out of 5 stars Flawed... but Worth a Look
"Christina's House" is an old fashioned killer on the loose movie. It's set in a small town and avoids trying to be a hip "Scream" style slasher film.
Christina, her dad, and younger brother live in a creepy old house. Apparently someone else is secretly living there as well, killing anyone it can and disposing of the bodies before they can be discovered. Pretty creepy stuff, as anyone who's ever lived in a spooky old house themselves can attest.
The film moves along rather slowly, taking it's time to build suspense. The cast is above average as well.
Aside from a few loose ends, this is a relatively solid chiller. It's a nice change of pace from the high tech, fast paced horror films that look great, but are devoid of any real scares. "Christina's House" reminds us why we liked horror films in the first place.

3-0 out of 5 stars THIS LITTLE HOUSE . . .
I'm giving the movie ''three-point-five stars'' because it's a good movie for writers to watch and learn from. I thought the script held promise except for parts in the middle and end -- where it sagged -- and where my suspension of disbelief dimmed.
The acting was fairly decent but I thought the personna of the interegating police officer seemed off kilter in relatonship to the entire mix of characters, which included John Savage ("The Onion Fields").

I like movies where you are absolutely confounded as to who is the culprit or culprits -- and given the foundation that anyone or anything could be evil. In my book "The Game" is a pretty darn good movie becaus it kept me guessing, kept me off balance and involved.

But "Christina's House" is definitely in my movie collection.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's ok for a wednesday night..
Usually in small contries like mine (panama), the new dvds on stock are the ones that were just on the big screens and with big earnings, this movie got out on 1999 so certainly, this is not a person's No.1 chooise at the moment with all that RING, and JEEPERS CREEPERS out on the market, but the dvd just came out last year, giving it a second chance for people to give it a try.
I recently got my dvd player and went crazy renting movies, but i didn't want to get the newest titles cause i knew ill had a lot of time to see all of them so i decided to get any thriller and try out my new media player, but as i was watching the movie, i thought, man... this isn't that bad at all, the thriller keeps you interested the whole time, even when you know who the killer is, you'll still be aware of everything that happens in the movie.

Its not that long, so you wont get bored, and its creepy enough to feel ok about watching it, so if you just want to get something to watch with a spooky touch, this should be your chooise..

3-0 out of 5 stars Watch this one on a slow night.
Before watching this movie I did what you may be doing right now, I got a few opinions. From the reviews here you would think this movie is horrible and totally unwatchable. Not true. It's nothing to fully recommend, but it's also nothing to diss completely. It's a who-done-it, horror flick with a mild degree of chills and thrills. If you thought "I know what you did last summer" was o.k., you'll find this o.k. too. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Raffle - Like a good dessert: Light, Warm and Sweet
Despite it's sexist-sounding premise, this movie is warm and often tender. The characters are endearing and the humor is gentle and good-hearted. Yes, there are a couple of long montages of T&A, but they are pretty harmless, and it's easy to fast forward through them (if like me, you find them boring.)People who like T&A shows will probably enjoy them.
In any case, with or without the montages, this is a light romantic comedy with a happy ending and a few good plot twists to keep you interested along the way. What could be better?

3-0 out of 5 stars The Raffle
This movie would have been 4 stars, except for the song, "Over You, " by Timmy-T. The inclusion of this song in the soundtrack really degraded the credibility of the movie as a whole. The song was so annoying that I almost couldn't watch the movie, which was great of course. Mark Hamill, Nick Lea, everyone and everything was fantastic, except for that song. Man. Maybe they could re-release it with some instrumental synthesiser music instead. Other than that, It was worth the rental. Three Stars!(Almost 4!)

3-0 out of 5 stars plot break down
Before I start I would like to point out the budget for this film, it was $2million and it shows. But don't give up on it, it has an exellent performance by lead man Nicholas Lea of X-Files fame and Bobby Dawson & Mark Hamill don't do bad either. It has a very original script were two friends (Lea & Dawson) devise a plan to raffle a grand prize of a date with the most beutiful woman in the world, after a long hard search they find a "beutiful woman" but have trouble getting the world to accept the conclusion that she is the most beutiful woman they finaly reach the big day of the raffle and all goes wrong. I dont want to spoil the ending for you so get this film and see for yourself.

3-0 out of 5 stars A must see for Nick Lea fans!
I am a huge fan of Nick Lea so, even though this film is formulaic and silly, it's worth watching just for Nick. He's very good and *so* adorable! He shows a real talent for comedy and it was nice to see the lighter side of his incredible acting ability. I must admit that if Nick weren't in it, I would not buy it, but if you're a Nicknik, it'll be a great addition to your collection :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Acting!
Although I'm not a fan of thrillers, This flick is full of interesting performances. including Ben Gazzara, Taylor Dayne, John Henson & Lawrence Leritz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cool Movie !
Recently saw this flick. Like the performances by Taylor Dayne, Kevin Dillion and liked seeing Lawrence Leritz as the Cop. I'm a fan...have his video Total Stretch! with Lawrence Leritz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Film; Well executed with strong performances!
Recently saw STAG and thought it was very well done. Not into the violence, but the strong performances carries it along. Fun to see Taylor Dayne acting, John Henson as the gay character & Lawrence Leritz as the cop at the end of the movie (also have his video Total Stretch!). Great unsual casting!

4-0 out of 5 stars GREAT "FORGOTTEN" MOVIE!
Filmed almost completely inside a house, this movie is almost a play, about a party with two guest girls that goes terribly wrong, and the characters fight to hide what happened, with fear of their reputations. THe dialogues are fantastic, the rhythm is absorbing, McCarthy is great, Stockwell is great. Onle the conclusion is a little bit weak.

5-0 out of 5 stars An exciting and realistic tale of a stag party gone wrong...
This was a great flick that I caught on Showtime time one night. Stellar performances by John Stockwell and John Henson and a brilliant and convincing performance by long-time m.i.a. Andrew McCarthy as one of the childhood friends now drug-dealer and organizer of the stag party 'entertainment'. A suprisingly good performance by the 80's pop icon Taylor Dane - who knew she could act? ... Read more

this movie was awful. it made no sense whatsoever. i watched this movie twice, and it STILL made no sense. if i could i would give it negative stars. it BLEW!

5-0 out of 5 stars Premonition
This movie. is good. And most of the stuff that "happened" in this movie does happen. ive seen it. I dont care if you believe me or not. this movie is really good. great. Watch it with an open mind. You might find something out.

4-0 out of 5 stars `Se7en or Sixth Sense?
Premonition is a good thriller in the line of Se7en but with a something like The Sixth Sense, also it has a good cast and direction.

1-0 out of 5 stars "I have a bad Premonition about this."

Originally titled "Convergence," "Premonition" seems like a brainchild of Chris Carter, or something of a homage to his creations, "The X-Files" and "Millennium." It is a supernatural thriller on the order of "End of Days" and "Stigmata," and it's just as bad as both.

The movie follows two tabloid journalists searching for the next big story. Christopher Lloyd plays Morley Allen, the skeptical Fox Mulder (from the fifth season of "The X-Files") who specializes in the extraordinary and the supernatural. Like Mulder, he's searching for the Truth: What is the Reason, the Purpose, the Answer? Lloyd has more than a passing resemblance to Lance Henriksen's Frank Black of "Millennium" with his dark clothing, dour demeanor and permanent scowl. Perhaps Henriksen had better things to do than reprise a similar role.

The second journalist is Ali Caine, played by Cynthia Preston. Her innocent beauty belies a shady and mysterious past that even she has a hard time understanding. Unlike Dana Scully to Mulder or Emma Hollis to Black, Ali is a poor counterpoint to Morley. She is the vulnerable victim of the horror genre, the stereotypical blonde in distress.

In their investigations, the two encounter a institutionalized boy, who can foresee the deaths of people, and a man (Adrian Paul) obsessed with death who finds beauty in the lifeless form. Somehow there is a connection or a convergence that links these four characters. But, in the end, nothing makes sense.

Faced with all the facts at the conclusion, even Morley echoes my sentiments when he says, "I just don't understand." And I can hear the director's defense when John (Blu Mankuma), Morley's friend and the local coffee shop owner, replies, "There's nothing to understand. It just is."

As it is, "Premonition" is not a good movie. It tries very hard to be creepy with its musical score and its bleak-gray photography of an always-raining Seattle (coincidentally, the original setting of "Millennium"). Even the voice-over narration attempts to give the movie a film noir feel. But in all cases, "Premonition" fails. After all, what can you expect from a movie that sums up its premise with "There's nothing to understand. Understanding [doesn't] really matter." ... Read more

Read more
