Bored, bored, bored. That's how young Keith feels about being strandedatthe time-worn Mountain View Inn with his parents. Then he meets Ralph, anequally stir-crazy mouse who quickly befriends Keith and begs to rideKeith's toy motorcycle. Soon Ralph masters the tiny two-wheeler and"rrroom-zzzooms" through the hotel hallways, dodging four-leggedpredators, adults, and the occasional vacuum; he even risks his furryskin to help Keith recover from a high fever. Based on Beverly Cleary'sfamous children's novel of the same name, this 42-minutevideo combines live-action talent (including Ray Walston as thewise bellhop) and award-winning stop-motion animation. While the datedlook of the TV movie may not appeal to kids who prefer the heart-pumpingaction of computer-generated favorites such as Small Soldiers, its tameplot and relatively slow pace makeThe Mouse and the Motorcycle a healthy choice for families with 3-to 7-year-olds. Followed by an even popular sequel, Runaway Ralph. --Liane Thomas ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Cute Tale
A cute tale about a young boy staying overnight at a motel with his parents, when he meets a furry little friend who resides inside the wall of his motel room. The boy and mouse help one another out in nice ways, making the stay enjoyable for both boy and mouse. Only the mouse and his family are animated in this film. Very good actors perform in the film, some of which are familar faces. My 8-year-old son enjoyed the movie, but my 10-year-old daughter was somewhat bored. The only qualm I had was I thought the voice of the mouse sounded somewhat overly "cutesy", borderline corny. The boy's voice was more mature than the mouse's. Overall, a nice family show for viewing with younger children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
The Mouse & The Motorcycle is funny, but I did hear of the book, why I wonder if there are mice that can ride motorcycles, since Stuart Little could ride a toy car.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Mouse From a Book now in a TV Movie
Hey kids! This 1986 television special, which was based on a best-selling novel, and also had two following movies: Ralph S. Mouse(1987) and Runaway Ralph(1988), also based on novels, is a great film. The animation is kind of cheap, but it is funny in most of it, and is a great family story. Talk your parents into getting it along with the other 2. You'll luv 'em!

I like when the mouse goes on the toy ambulance. Also, I like when the mouse rides the motorcycle. That's why I love this movie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Adorable for Young and Old Alike!
First time I saw this film on a local public television station I sat enthralled. What clever and enjoyable entertainment! The little mouse is precious and the adventures he finds his way into and out of will keep both youngsters and "older" kids laughing throughout.

This is a great tape to pop in when the kids are restless and you need to quickly distract them! ... Read more

Beverly Cleary's entertaining sequel to The Mouse and theMotorcycle comes to life in another stop-motion animation TV short, starring a young Fred Savage. Ralph, a squeaky-voiced mouse with apenchant for peanut butter, decides to run away from the Mountain ViewInn when his uncle threatens to ground him for reckless motorcycleriding. He winds up at the Happy Acres Camp, where an unenthused campernamed Garfield (Savage) captures the tiny rodent. When "Garf" saves Ralphfrom a hungry cat, Ralph starts talking and a friendship develops.Together, boy and mouse combat Garf's own desires to run away from adifficult situation and solve a camp mystery to boot. Wholesome fun bestdescribes this 42-minute family feature, which does not rely oncliché-ridden dialogue or breakneck action. The '70s go-go style ofmusic is a little dated and Ralph's stop-motion movements may seem alittle jerky by today's animation standards, but he and his furrycostars still garner plenty of appeal. Children 4 years old and upwill easily comprehend this film's lesson about the importance of workingthrough problems rather than avoiding them. --Liane Thomas ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Mouse and the Motorcycle 2!
Hi, people! If you liked the TV special The Mouse and the Motorcycle(1986), yu'll really like this 1988 TV special! They were both based on novels written by Beverly Cleary, a children's author. It's about a mouse named Ralph who runs away from home on his toy motorcycle, and stops at a summer camp. There, he meets a lonely boy named Garfield (Fred Savage, later of "The Wonder Years") and they become friends. Well, I don't want to spoil it, so this is all I'm going to tell you about the story.
This film was originally aired on ABC in 1988, and, aside from cheap animation, is GREAT! Ya just gotta get it! And, in addition to this movie, get Mouse and the Motorcycle too. They are two excellent movies for all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars They don't get any better than this
This classic needs to be in every video library. Children of all ages will find this movie irresistable. I'm ordering my 4th copy because friends and family have a cute way of begging my copy away from me and ironically, I have no children. When guests come over, a guaranteed way to capture the attention of their unruly children is to put this in the VCR. It usually captures the attention of the adults too. Unfortunately, the film is only 45 minutes long.

3-0 out of 5 stars I like Runaway Ralph because I like animal books.
Dear Beverly Cleary, I just read Runaway Ralph. I loved the book a lot. My favorite part was when Ralph met Chun because Ralph asksed Chum what kind of animal he was. I am going to ask you a couple of questions-OK? Why did you want to write so many books? Which of your books do you like the best? When you were little is this what you wanted to do? Please answer my questions. Sincerely, Sarah Teixeira END

Robert Downey Jr. has never been more charming than in this comedy about a yuppie who is revisited in adulthood by the spirits of four people who had been his friends as a child. The ghosts (Kyra Sedgwick, Charles Grodin, Alfre Woodard, Tom Sizemore) all have unfinished business in this world before they can move on to the next, and Downey's character agrees to let them inhabit his body while they sort it all out. The appealing cast alone strongly recommends this movie, but Downey's remarkable facility for physical comedy--manifesting the personalities of his supernatural pals as they possess him--is a riot. Elisabeth Shue makes the best of her part as the hero's girlfriend; Leaving Las Vegas was still ahead of her, but one can see her talent straining to get out here. The DVD release has a widescreen presentation, production notes, theatrical trailer, biographies of the cast, closed captioning, an optional French soundtrack and Spanish subtitles, and Dolby sound. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Magical Tale of Man "Possessed" by Friendly Spirits
Robert Downey Jr. is wonderful as the man who became the medium for 4 people who died in a bus accident at the same moment the hero was born. As a child these "friends" were known only to him, eventually leading to psychiatric evaluations because paretns, teachers et al insisted something had to be wrong with this child. While still a small child, the "spirits" decide it's time for him to be "without his special fiends"...until at about age 30 they suddenly make contact again. They need a favor. 4 favors. Each one of the foursome died before they could take care of some importnat unfinished business. In order to go to Heaven and rest in peace, their "little friend" would need to allow each of them to enter his body (since they are only souls) to accomplish their missions. -- The 4 scenarios are beautiful expressions of love and kindness, and although disrupting the young man's (love) life emmensely, in the end he too is richer from the turbulances. -- This is a wonderul fantasy, a big winner with romantic movie lovers. I have watched this film several times and will enjoy it again and again. The widescreen DVD version is particularly enjoyable. Five stars for this gem of a movie! *****

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartwarmed story and Robert's talent!
The story is a little curious and strange, but nice. The 4 ghosts are not scarely, but kind and unique. The boy playing as the childhood is excellent! My brother, mother, and I was moved with his acting and had a tear dropped within the first 30-40 minutes of this film. And Robert Downey Jr. plays remarkably well. I admit he is one of the greatest actors in the world. He could brilliantly change his voice, ways of talking/walking for 4 ghosts and his own role. His singing is good, too. He is a gifted and talented actor. I hope he never will abuse any drugs. Anyway,I really liked this movie. It's truely recommends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Played me like a violin
This movie is definitely schmaltzy, of this there can be no question. However, as another reviewer so eloquently stated said, it works. After all, it's not so often that one feels quite so shamelessly manipulated by a movie yet remains wearing a smile to the end.
The four actors comprising the four "limbo-ed" souls are excellent in their own right, with Tom Sizemore being especially good in a comical role quite unlike his other star turns. Elizabeth Shue must be one of my favourite heroines (you could tell she had it even back in "The Karate Kid"), and it is downright unbelievable that she hasn't appeared in any major releases as of late. She is utterly winning in her appearance here. Still, even her performance is eclipsed by Robert Downey, Jr., whose ability to capture his fellow actors' personal mannerisms (or I should say their characters' mannerisms) is a lesson in the art of imitation/impersonation. The sheer talent of Mr. Downey is a joy to behold, and it is a tragedy for the acting community (and the audience) that such a phenomenal actor has been so shackled by drugs and forced to act in such dreck as "Gothika".
"Heart and Souls" is a marvellous movie, well worth the 5 stars given. It reeled me in hook, line, and sinker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart And Souls (1993)
This is one of my favorite movies. I was only eight years old when I first saw it and ever since then, it has been on of my favorite movies.

A bus accident claims the lives of Harrison (Charles Grodin) (a frustrated opera singer is overcome by stage fright), Julia (Kyria Sedgwick) (a young woman who has let the love of her life walk out on her), Milo (Tom Seizmore) (a burglar with a guilty conscience), and Penny (Alfre Woodard) (a single mother who must leave her kids to work the night shift). The accident occurs at the exact moment a newborn baby boy was brought into the world: Thomas Reilly. Harrison, Julia, Penny, and Milo become ghosts and are immediately drawn to Thomas. They become friends with Thomas. The problem is, only Thomas can see and hear them.

When Thomas turns seven years old, the four ghosts realize that they are getting Thomas into trouble. They must sadly fade out of his life. 27 years go by and Thomas (Robert Downey, jr.) is a hard-working business man, who is in a relationship with a young woman (Elisabeth Shu). The relationship isn't going well, for he is driving her away. The four ghosts realize why they are connected to Thomas: They need him to help resolve one thing in their lives before they died. The problem is, in order to help them, they must take over his body.

You'll all enjoy this heart warming comedy. I have many times. Buy this and you'll be watching over and over again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart and Souls
This is a funny yet simple movie, great for the whole family since there is not a lot of bad language or sex. Just a great, fun, cute film to enjoy over and over. Robert Downey Jr does a great job as do all the other players in this movie. ... Read more

Tremors didn't actually break any new ground (even though its tunneling worm monsters certainly did), but it revved up the classic monster-movie formulas of the 1950s with such energetic enthusiasm and humor that it made everything old seem new again. It's also got a cast full of enjoyable actors who clearly had a lot of fun making the film, and director Ron Underwood strikes just the right balance of comedy and terror as a band of small-town rednecks battles a lot of really nasty-looking giant worms. The special effects are great, the one-liners fly fast and furious between heroes Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (and yes, that's country star Reba McEntire packin' awesome firepower), and it's all done with the kind of flair one rarely associates with goofy monster flicks like this. --Jeff Shannon ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Attention monster movie lovers:
TREMORS is nothing more then pure fun. The story takes place in a very small Western town that is besieged by four giant sluglike monsters. These slugs attack anything that causes a seismic vibration on the ground much like a piranha attacks anything that leaks blood. But these slugs chase after a would-be victim with the speed of a runaway train. And add to that, the surviving slugs seem to get smarter when one of their own is killed.

This is one film where the producers could have just put in a bunch of teenagers that only serve the purposes of taking their clothes off and being victims. But instead, we get a several enjoyable characters that we can actually care about. Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon are priceless as two laborers looking for work only to find - How do I put it? - man-eating slugs. Michael Gross, who plays an NRA poster boy, is far removed from his role as an ex-hippie on FAMILY TIES. His equally gun-toting wife is played by country singer Reba McIntyre, who turns in an impressive performance. Unlike all the FREDDY THE 13TH (Don't blame me if I can't tell'em apart) movies, you find yourself rooting for these people.

While this movie might not be CITIZEN KANE, it is a perfect rental for a Friday night.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic horror/camp. A fun movie.
If you are looking for a good scare, Tremors is not the movie for you. However, if your goal is to be entertained, this is a great choice. Tremors is the story of two handymen, the people of the town they live in, and their encounters with a bunch of giant, man eating worms that live in the ground around the town. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, who play the two handymen, won't win any academy awards for this one, but their performances as two offbeat handymen looking for something better make the movie. Micheal Gross and Reba McEntire add to the campy feel of this film as a survivalist couple with enough firepower to start (and probably end) world war three. The special effects are good and the plot, while simple, keeps you involved. Overall, this is a movie that is overjoyed to make fun of itself.

As for comparisons I have seen between this movie and Dune (possibly the WORST adaptation of any book ever to hit the big screen - David Lynch should be ashamed at the way he treated this classic story) the only similarity is that both stories have giant worms in them. Don't let comparisons to Dune scare you off - this movie is in no way similar. Tremors tries hard to be just what it succeeds in being - a campy, funny, semi-horror film that has no other goal but to entertain. Enjoy the film!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
The best movies are those in which you don't expect much and then it blows you away. I've read the other reviews and all those that are five star are on target. What can I add? Some of the banter, and curse words (that are not just the f word over and over) are orginal. The pseudoscientific stream involved with seismology, and sensitivity to sound is wonderfully written. All in all a classic tongue firmly in cheek movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Guess you broke into the wrong damn rec room, didn't ya!
In "Tremors," as you know, massive underground worms threaten to devour everyone in a small redneck town. I'm sure Freud would've loved it!

You'll love it too, if you have a penchant for cheerfully profane horror/comedy. "Tremors" is a delight, from the slightly bickering (and somewhat homoerotic) performances of Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, to the offbeat casting, to the clever dialogue ("What kind of fuse is that?" "Cannon fuse." "What the hell do you use it for?" "My cannon."), to the worms themselves, which are totally convincing, if not all that scary.

It adds up to a wonderful waste of a couple hours. Is "Tremors" for you? Well, put it this way: if you're not interesting in seeing Steven Keaton and Reba McEntire blast the hell out of a massive worm from their underground arsenal, well, I just don't know how to talk to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars For sheer fun, "Tremors" can't be beat
What a rare treat to have comedy and horror blended together so amazingly well! This movie takes a standard thriller plot (small group of colorful characters becomes trapped by monsters and must work together and use their heads to figure out how to escape) and makes it seem brand-new. The rapport between the cast members--Bacon and Ward in particular--beautifully serves an already tight script. This movie has it all: drama, excitement, laughs, creativity, scares, and yes, even our hero's search for a good woman. Don't be put off by the fact that it co-stars Michael Gross and Reba McIntyre... their characters are two of the most enjoyable in the movie! As survivalists with somewhat itchy trigger fingers, the mere concept of these two characters could have easily plunged the movie into stupidity. But this is no inane shoot-'em-up flick. The direction and script are smart, and they don't let us down. Buy "Tremors." It's a blast. You won't regret it. I promise. If you don't love it, come find me and I will personally call you a moron. ... Read more

Three middle-age buddies (Billy Crystal, Daniel Stern, Bruno Kirby) facing personal crises decide to sign up for a two-week cattle run for a change of pace. The trail proves a tougher place than anyone thought, and the boss (Jack Palance) is a grizzled taskmaster who doesn't cotton to tenderfoot urbanites. Popular in theaters, the film is both funny and moving, with Crystal giving one of his most complete performances and Palance (who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar) a lot of colorful fun. Director Ron Underwood (Heart and Souls) subtly shifts the tone of the film from broad comedy to poignancy over its running time, and he makes the story's end a bittersweet victory that feels like life as most people know it. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Buckaroo Bonanza....
This review refers to the MGM Contemporary Classic DVD Edition of "City Slickers".....

Saddle up Buckaroos, for the funniest city dude meets cowboy adventure since Bob Hope roamed the plains!

Mitch(Billy Crystal) is going through a mid-life crisis. He sells "air" for a New York radio station and finds that as he nears 40, his life seems unfulfilling. His buddies Ed(Bruno Kirbly), an aging Romeo, and Phil(Daniel Stern), pitifuly henpecked, also seem to be feeling the strain. They decide a little vacation is in order and head for a New Mexico cattle ranch to enjoy life as they "bring in the herd".

This "fantasy" vacation turns into one hysterical adventure. Learning to rope and ride is trickier(and funnier), then you think. But the toughest part is dealing with the tough ranch hands. One in particular..."Curly"(Jack Palance)...is one bad hombre as he scares these guys out of their wits.

They are joined by several others as the drive begins from New Mexico to Colorado and anything than can go wrong... does! There's a stampede, a runaway wagon, and Mitch even has to deliver a calf. Their cell phones are no help here! There's also mucho male bonding going on during the trek. These guys even bond with the cows! They learn about each other and with the help of the very tough Curly, they even learn what is important in life.

The funny lines and gags are non stop, and there are some very poignant moments as well. It'll have you smiling and often laughing out loud. You won't want it to end, but luckily...there's a sequel.."City Slickers 2..The Legend of Curly's Gold".

The film was honored with several awards. Among them Jack Palance took an Oscar for Best supporting actor, as well as a Golden Globe and a Best supporting actor from the American Comedy Awards. Billy Crystal was also honored at the American Comedy Awards as Funniest Actor in a lead and the People's Choice Awards voted the film the Favorite Comedy of the year. They are joined by some outstanding and seasoned character actors. Jeffrey Tambor, John Mostel, David Paymer, Patricia Wettig, and Helen Slater and the wonderful Noble Willingham all keep us in stitches as well. The music by Marc Shaiman is as fun as the story and Direcotr Ron Underwood and Photographer Dean Semler bring us some real cinematic delights.

The transfer of the DVD is very nice. An excellent picture in widescreen presents the beautiful Western scenery and terrific colors. If you watch the original theatrical trailer, you can really notice the difference made by the transfer. Although the sound in Dolby Stereo was good, it could have been better. This film with all the great music and action needs to be in 5.1. It may be viewed in French(Mono) and has subtitles in Spanish and French, but no other special features. Just a really funny flick that will take you away for about 2 hours.

So sing along to the tunes of "Rawhide" and "Bonaza" with Mitch, Phil, Ed and Norman the cow along the big trail...have fun...Laurie

5-0 out of 5 stars Poignant Comedy
This is one of those great comedies that also speaks to the great truths of life. I have watched this film over and over again and am always left with a wonderful feeling after having watched it. It lifts my spirits when I am low and helps to remind me what is truly important in life.

Mitch Robbins (Billy Crystal), Phil Berquist (Daniel Stern) and Ed Furillo (Bruno Kirby) are three friends approaching mid-life at break neck speed. Each year they go on increasingly more dangerous adventures which Mitch's wife (Patricia Wettig) describes as desperate and juvenile attempts to hold on to their youth. When Ed suggests mushing along the trail of Admiral Byrd as a way to top running from bulls in Spain, Mitch is ready to quit the adventure trips and settle into senior life at the ripe old age of 39. After a demotion at his job and a surprise at his birthday party where Phil and his icy wife Arlene (Karla Tamburelli) have a blow out after she learns of his infidelities, Mitch's depression gets the better of his wife who sends him on one more adventure - to find his smile.

And so it is that the trio finds themselves on a cattle drive in the American west with five other lost souls and Curly (Jack Palance) as the cattle boss. Palance is wonderful as the gruff old cowboy who intimidates everyone around him (Mitch:"Kill anyone today, Curly?" Curly: "Day ain't over yet."). Yet he knows the secret to life and relates the cryptic answer to Mitch during the ride. As they drive the cattle and overcome obstacles like stampedes, drunken escapades by the trail hands and their own personal struggles, Mitch comes to realize what Curly's answer means and that it is the only answer he needs to bring the pieces of his life back together.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Big Letdown!
WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!! I hate it when they do this!! The first hour of this movie is so funny I laughed out loud on a number of occasions. Something I don't usually do when I watch a comedy by myself but this was just too hilarious. Then, a cow gets shot just after giving birth, Jack Palance dies and is buried on the trail, two horses get killed going over a cliff with the wagon and a cute little calf nearly drowns in a river. After being bullied and deserted by drunken cowboys, the "city slickers" manage to drive home the herd of cattle and are informed that the cows that "trusted" them will be ground up for hamburger....but hey, that's life! Billy Crystal finds his family is the most important thing to him, and he adopts the little calf, but no jokes could make me even smile after the middle portion of this movie that starts out broad comedy and mutates into warm'n'fuzzy, overly-sentimental, and very predictable fluff. Not my idea of a "feel-good" movie... a little sad actually. When it started I was making plans about buying the sequel. When it ended I decided to sell the original. I can see why there are so many used copies for sale at Amazon Marketplace.
This could have been up there with the best National Lampoon Vacation movies (started out that way) but they blew it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Great movie, horrible dvd
I love this movie! Its among my top favorites. However, the DVD [is bad]! One reason, the dubbing. The first half of the movie is fine, but about half way through, the words being spoken by the characters dont match up with their mouth. It looks like a bad Bruce Lee movie! Im not one to complain, but it just kept getting worse! At one point the whole line was almost spoken before the characters mouth started moving! I just baffles me that those responsible for transfering this movie to DVD took no care at all in doing it! I really dont know how this DVD made it to stores without someone noticing this huge fault and trying to make it better. Like I said, this is my favorite movie, I give it the lowest rating for the lack of dubbing quaility! ...

First time I saw this film on a local public television station I sat enthralled. What clever and enjoyable entertainment! The little mouse is precious and the adventures he finds his way into and out of will keep both youngsters and "older" kids laughing throughout.

Charlize Theron is the latest stunning blonde to be hanging around some big ape in a Hollywood movie, this one a remake of the 1949 semi-classic with echoes of the superior King Kong. Theron plays the daugher of an American researcher killed by poachers in Africa. The baby gorilla left in her care grows up to become a hugely tall and broad specimen named Joe, living in the mountains as a mostly unseen legend among people who live there. Along comes an eco-minded emissary (Bill Paxton) from a California sanctuary, who talks the jungle girl into providing safe haven for Joe at the L.A. facility. The transition is not without discomfort, but everything is aggravated via a conspiracy of poachers to get Joe into their own greedy hands. Director Ron Underwood (City Slickers) uses a combination of special-effects techniques to give Joe life and personality, and he succeeds quite effectively. The requisite giant-ape-goes-amok scenes are all in place--a couple of them pretty intense--as is a conclusion that finds the simian hero performing a stunning feat of escalation. Underwood attempts to give a little modern spin to some classic Hollywood conventions regarding wild hearts lost in civilization, and the results are pretty agreeable family fare. --Tom Keogh ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Disney does a good job with this excellent modernized remake
As a fan of the original Mighty Joe Young which I've watched many times as a kid, I was pretty impressed with the way Disney took the story and brought it back to life with a bit of modernization to the plot. If you are a fan of Disney movies in general, or you like their Animal Kingdom theme park, you will probably really enjoy this movie. My kids loved it too. There are a few emotionally tough spots, so be sure to watch it with them. But like most Disney movies, just about everything works out to a happy conclusion. This is still one of my favorite stories of all time. I'm glad to see it rejuvenated.

4-0 out of 5 stars great remake
this version of the mighty joe young is exciting, enjoyable and a just plain great movie that should have been released during the summer season. Rick baker's make is amongst the finest ever. While you know it is not a real groilla it a[appears anazing life like. the story is engrossign that moves along at a steady pace. the action is great and thrilling without being bloody. this is the type of film that should appeal to teens and adults as well as kids. i loved this movie. It is nothing but fun and excitement all the way through. The heros and villians are of the classic mode, and athough the scene when joe goes on the rampage is much shorter than the same in the original, it is pushed along by a great plot with mean, dispicable villians. the part when joe overturns the truck and runs amok in the city topped off with the great finamusement park are nothing short of a maximum thrill ride. The change at the end when joe rescues a boy trapped on top of a disabled ferris wheel instead of a girl trapped in a burning orphanage is a splendid reworking that works so damn well. there is action aplenty and done so well that this moive is a must summer film for everyone who wants to not only stay awake but enjoy themselves. to hell with the critics who panned this movie and the moron viewers to complained about it and would probably watch worthless bores such as shakespear in love and schindlers list.

3-0 out of 5 stars MIGHTY Family fun
A feel good story for the whole family, don't expect "Mighty Joe Young" to knock you off your feet. Instead, watch it for the good "Beauty and the Beast" storyline that is well outlined for any age group to watch.
There is some violence in this movie, and smaller children may be frightened by "Joe" at first, but if they can control themselves through the first few minutes, they'll fall in love with him. There is very little, if any, foul language.
The story is simple: Girl and giant ape are moved to the city, girl and giant ape want out, man in love with girl helps, everyone ends up happy.
If you're interested, "Joe" looks fairly realistic, especially for the time this flick was made.
Overall, a good family show that all can watch. I highly recommend it for its entertainment value.

5-0 out of 5 stars awwwww :)
Ok, this movie makes me cry every time i see it. stupid i know, but what the hey. I love both Bill Paxton and Charlieze Theron, so that was why I saw it initially, but I just love it. Joe looks realistic with the exception of his tongue, which looks goofy, but it still works for me. great kids movie i think too.

5-0 out of 5 stars great movie
That movie really was good. At the end, I had a few tears coming out, because I really thought Joe died. Charlize is a true African and played the roll of Jill Young, who took care of Joe. ...

3-0 out of 5 stars Speechless..Well Spoken Movie.
An oddity of sorts because you have the two actors who played Batman and Superman in one movie (Micheal Keaton and Christopher Reeve respectively). With that aside, SPEECHLESS delivers on the grounds of a decent romantic/screwball comedy. Keaton and Geena Davis play speechwriters for rival candidates in a New Mexico senatorial campaign who meet and fall in love under unusual circumstances. They must keep their love alive when the campaign becomes intense and they must keep their loyalty to their respective candidates. Typical light characters played by Keaton and Davis and Christopher Reeve thrown into the mix as an old boyfriend of Davis trying to revive the old relationship. Overall, solid entertainment that's unoffensive with snappy dialogue.

3-0 out of 5 stars Speechless or SCRIPT-LESS? Cute but not exactly "brainy"
Gena Davis and Michael Keaton fall in love "at first sight". OK, I'm still with them. They BOTH are involved in OPPOSING political campaigns, neither knowing about the other's activities at first. OK, it's about 10,000 to 1 now. After several additional twists and turns (resulting in incredibly unlikely situations), they end up together, apparently living happily ever after. Now the odds have increased to about 10 million to one! -- This story is about as likely as the unspeakably unbelievable love story delivered by Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks in "You've Got Mail".

I was entertained by this "light fluff", especailly when "their song" was worked in. The two leads worked well together, no problem there. I just found the story to be shamefully unbelievable. If you enjoy romantic comedies, you're getting a great romance, but be warned of the "I Love Lucy" loonacies!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quer se apaixonar ?.......Então veja esse filme.

4-0 out of 5 stars Delightful and Funny
Speechless is delightful! The chemistry between Davis and Keaton is the best I have seen in a long time. In my opinion, this is Davis at her best! Plus, the story is very interesting and has those great "ups and downs". I also give high marks for Christopher Reeve and it is sad to see that this was one of his last pre-accident movies. As with most romantic comedies these days, the characters have to go to bed, but thankfully, it is kept off screen. Rated PG-13 for some language and implied sex.

2-0 out of 5 stars Semi-cute
Geena Davis is of course cute, but this romantic comedy about speech writers in opposing political camps is fluff and cotton candy, kind of like something from Neil Simon without the bite and with only a quarter of the wit. The candidates and the issues are trivialized and made into clichés. (But that's good.) Must have been written by a speech writer! She's a liberal Democrat and he's an amoral Republican hired gun. It might have been more interesting if they had switched them around. It's all surface and sound bite mentality including the performances by the leads, Geena Davis and Michael Keaton, who together produce enough chemistry to rival cold dishwater. If you're really, really bored and it's a choice between, say, a rerun of "Suddenly Susan" and this, flip a coin. Or better yet, go scrub the kitchen floor. This is the sort of mush that will turn your brain to cottage cheese.

Some observations: Christopher Reeve is sadly miscast: he makes a very soft heavy. Geena can smile and smile and smile and occasionally frown. Big deal. Poor Bonnie Bedelia. They made her look so dowdy, so as not to upstage Davis. It must be frustrating to know that not only are you more talented than the star, you are even better looking; but for an actress in Hollywood, younger always wins out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Comedies of the Ninties.
New Yorker Mitch Robbins (Billy Crystal) turns 39 and thinking that he will be misrable for the rest of his life. Then his two best friends (Daniel Stern & Bruno Kirby) offer a present to Mitch by bringing him to a cattle drive in New Mexico. Then mitch's life start to change unexpectedly by going on his fantasy vacation with his friends. They are set out to find thier freedom and thier adventure, they will remember for a life time.

Directed by Ron Underwood (Tremors, Heart & Souls, Mighty Joe Young-Remake) made a extremely likeable entertaining ambitious comedy. Crystal, Stern, Kirby and Jack Palance's wonderful Oscar Winning Performance makes this Contemporary Comedy Classic really worth watching. Crystal also Executive Produced the film. There's a nice music score by Marc Shaiman (South Park:Bigger, Longer & Uncut). DVD's has an fine anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) transfer and an good Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround Sound. One of the highest grossing films of 1991. This is One of the Best & Most memorable comedies ever made, see it. Grade:A.

Like I said, this is my favorite movie, I give it the lowest rating for the lack of dubbing quaility! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Another Man on the Moon?
Eddie Murphy plays a bar owner named Pluto Nash who is famous on the Moon. That sounds out-of-this-world! A couple of dirty businessmen want him perished because he has the hottest spot on the Moon! How insane is that? "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" is an insane movie that deals with intergalactic conspiracies and insane androids. Nobody should care about the story; it's a comedy that isn't funny. At least the special effects are noteworthy. Rosario Dawson is in it too, which is a plus. Randy Quaid is Bubba, the android who runs about 5 mph, maximum. John Cleese is an automated driver for a stolen car. Luis Guzman saved the popular Pluto Nash, but has a problem with robots. Jay Mohr plays a singer who wore a quilt and has two wives, one cloned. If you can stand the outrageousness, then you may like this movie. If you want to see a real hero on the Moon, then watch Clint Eastwood rescuing mortals on "Space Cowboys." Too bad this movie made a whopping twenty bucks at the theaters; it's decent enough to see.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Adventures of Pluto Nash
Pluto Nash could be the worst film I've ever seen in my entire life. This movie is so stupid and ridiculous it's not even funny; kind of like Zoolander. The plot is absolutely horrid trash that must have been written in just one day.The dialogue is painful to listen to.And the actors and actressess in it are at there utter worst and don't even make the film slightly fun.It made me want to pull my eyeballs out.I can't believe I sat through a whole hour and a half of this complete crap! If you went to see this at a theater I am extremely sorry and hope you got all your money back.Ughh it is just so terrible.I know Eddie Murphy signs up for tons of comedies but couldn't he see this was awful. The whole premise of the film is stupid. It thinks it is being funny but it isn't.You just yawn and look at the clock waiting for this crap to end.The special effects and city on the moon are so fake and ridiculous. They didn't even get one thing right in this whole frecking movie.I was suprised when I saw it had gotten a 6.It is also suppose to be an adventure flick but it is nothing like that at all.If you can sit through this at the theater than you can sit through Gigli 50,000,000,000 times. What ever you do don't see this.It is worse then Legally Blonde 2.

Welcome to the Moon 2087. With all the natural resources mined out years ago, the Moon has become the new Wild West. A place where money and the right contacts can get you anything you want and anything goes."The Adventures of Pluto Nash" is an action/adventure comedy set on the moon in the year 2087, starring EDDIE MURPHY as the title character, Pluto Nash, an audacious, successful owner of the hottest nightclub in town. Pluto finds himself in trouble when he refuses to sell his club to Mogan (JOE PANTOLIANO), the lunar gangster that is helping the mysterious Rex Crater mastermind a plan to take over the entire moon.Joining Nash in the danger and lunacy are Dina Lake (ROSARIO DAWSON), a beautiful earthling who has traveled to the moon to further her singing ambitions, and Pluto's bodyguard Bruno (RANDY QUAID) - a robot quickly approaching obsolescence. Rounding out the cast are Rowland (PETER BOYLE), a pool shark and Pluto's confidant; Flura (PAM GRIER), Pluto's mother; and Tony Francis (JAY MOHR), Pluto's friend and an Italian singing sensation.

"A limp Eddie Murphy vehicle that even he seems embarrassed to be part of."
-- Kevin Courrier, GLOBE AND MAIL

1-0 out of 5 stars One of the worst movies of all time.
You know a movie is horrific when the company that want's to distribute it dosen't release it for two years.Eddie Murphy stars
in this horridly, painful and excrutiatingly dull comedy. In the year 2084 Eddie murphy is a bar owner who with his partner robot
(Randy Quaid) and newfound employee (Rosario Dawson) try to stop
a gang of thugs and holigans from running him out of business.

That is basically it and a torturious 90 minutes you'll wish
this film be burned and buried or sent to pluto itself.John Cleese has about 10 minutes in the film he was the smart one obviously he got out quick enough by that time he probly wanted
to shoot himself for being in this peice of trash. So many people lined up to this film you could hear the grasshoppers in
the background , on it's opening it made an incredible 2.2 million maybe enough to pay off the catering bill on the set
of this 100 million dollar bomb, in the end it made a pitiful
4.4 million making it the biggest lost in a movie surpassing
even Cutthroat Island loosing 95.6 million dollars and it is
now hands down the biggest movie flop in hollywood history
almost destroying Eddie Murphys carrer luckly he made Daddy
Day Care wich was able to pay the catering bill the only
curse for the company is why this wasn't just a direct to
video release , one of the all time worse films it may not
be as bad as Battlefeild Earth but it's certainly a waste
of film and time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as advertised.
I remember reading reviews about how bad this movie was. I remember reading how the distributing company was hated this movie so much that they shelved it for a year or 2 (depending on where read this at). I also remember reading that Eddie himself hated the movie and didn't want it released.

How much of this you wanna believe, believe this: This is a pretty good movie, especially if you are an Eddie fan.

Eddie plays Pluto Nash. He owns a very popular bar on the Moon. Their is a rumor that gambling is gonna be made legal on the Moon and now someone is trying to buy all of the bars so they turn them into casino's, but Eddie won't sell. His is evetually blown up (they were hoping he would still be inside)leading him on a big hunt to find out who is out to get him.

With an all-star cast, this movie has plenty of verything a movie should have: Action, cool special effects, and some very good comedy moments. All of this leads up to a pretty surprising ending.

Definitely and enjoyable movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Popcorn Fluff
There are some movies that are not meant to be great art. They aim to be nothing more than a fun way to pass time and eat popcorn at the same time. The Adventures of Pluto Nash is one of those movies.

Eddie Murphy is great as the intrepid hero Pluto Nash as he fights the sinister space mafia. Originally, Nash was a small businessman who the mafia tries to shake down. However, Nash decides to fight the mafia in what turns out to be one of the most slapsticky sci-fi adventure flicks of all time. Thrills and spills abound in this wild and wacky funfest. Pluto Nash is a well-plotted futuristic sci-fi adventure story with a comedic bent.

It also features a great cast with Rosario Dawson, Pam Grier, John Cleese, Randy Quaid, Peter Boyle and Jay Mohr.

It must be frustrating to know that not only are you more talented than the star, you are even better looking; but for an actress in Hollywood, younger always wins out. ... Read more
