5-0 out of 5 stars Even better than "Miracle at Midnight"
It's odd that Disney withdrew this video since it is perhaps one of the finest made about the Holocaust, particularly the difficult decisions that both gentiles and Jews had to make about their relationships after the Nazi anschluss with Austria. Unlike Denmark, which held no inherent animosity toward Danish Jews, the situation was not the same in Austria. There was far more pressure put upon Austrians to join the Nazis' anti-semitic frenzy, and many Austrians willingly joined in. This movie takes the situation to the difficult personal and family level. It is proof of that song in "South Pacific"--"You Have to be Carefully Taught" (to hate and fear)--is right on the money. The two movies complement each other perfectly, showing two different situations and how each of them ultimately evolved.

5-0 out of 5 stars captivating...
It's been about 5 years since I've seen this film but I STILL remember it very well. I first saw it when I was 8 years old and had it on VHS. I had it until I was about 13 & watched it often, until someone taped over it. >:( Anyway, the thing about this movie, is the way it draws you in and forces you to feel the emotional trauma of the war. The fact that I could be interested in this type of film at 8, shows how it reaches out & grabs your attention and presents the tumult of the times in an uncomplicated way. Very touching, intriguing, interesting, & educational for kids (I'd say 4th grade and up because of some violence)... this is about all I can say since I haven't seen it in a long time. It's good enough that I came to Amazon looking to buy it, because I remembered how much I liked... but it's out of print :( Soooo I'm really hoping the powers that be decide to reissue it sometime soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Movie ~ A Must-See!
This movie has captivated me ever since I first saw it when I was in the seventh grade. Now a college student, I appreciate it even more for its truthfulness about the era and the story it can tell to new generations. I definitely recommend it to anyone who can get their hands on it... I'm only disappointed that it is currently not being produced, because I need another copy - I wore mine out!

1-0 out of 5 stars APPALLING DVD despite great actors
I love Jeremy Brett and Piper Laurie. Their combined talents offer what few enjoyable moments there are to be found in this Macbeth, but they unfortunately can't salvage this atrocious production. Seeing it is enough to turn someone off Shakespeare. (Should that happen, Al Pacino's delightful LOOKING FOR RICHARD is the perfect antidote to restore passion for the Bard). But I digress. I want to issue a warning to all who might assume the DVD version of this Macbeth would be superior to the VHS. In this instance, tape was simply transferred unto disk with no remastering or enhancements, and there are no extra features. The visual and audio quality is appalling. I regret buying this DVD when I already owned the VHS (..like I said, I love Jeremy Brett...) The only advantage is being able to skip the boring parts to get to the monologues. But that isn't saying much.

3-0 out of 5 stars It was ok.
I'm not going to say that this is the best version of Macbeth that I have ever seen. I'm just saying that it was ok. In my opinion, whoever made this production should have cast someone who actually did Shakespeare. I don't even know if Jeremy Brett and Piper Laurie have ever done Shakespeare. The set is gorgeous. Something tells me that you had to be brave to stand on the ramp above the stage. Macduff Jr. is so adorable. I was saddened when the Murderers killed him offstage. I was so sad when I heard him crying offstage at the end of the scene. The biggest highlight of the video (I rented it from the library) was the Witches. I liked the Witches even more when I found out that one of the actresses playing the Witches also played Bianca in this series' production of Othello. She's better at being evil than good. What especially charmed me about the witches was their costumes. I was expecting old chambermaid costumes or rags. I was also expecting old women, not sexy women. Then, there were the three demons, or apparitios as they are credited. They were freaky. I was especially charmed because the witches and the apparations appear more than once. Watch for them. They're pretty prominent. Other than that, just rent the DVD for the Witches, Macduff Jr. and the set. There is too much overacting from the leading players. They almost killed this DVD. Everyone else is good except for Malcolm. They obviously hired this guy because his chest is sexy.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is horrible
I teach this play in High School and was looking for an alternative to the Welles and Polanski versions to help my students understand the play. This is not it. This one is horrible. Badly acted and directed and very difficult to follow. If anyone is looking for a video version of this play that is easy to understand and useful for teachers, there is a pretty new version of the play on DVD available on this site directed by J. Bretton Truett and E.J. Kerwin ( B0000639O1 ) that is outstanding for educators. They perform most of the play and include a great deal of video analysis as well. The performances are very good and they use a modern setting which is very effective. There is also a wonderful feature that lets you get right to the text from the video and back again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tragic Production of a Great Tragedy
Unfortunately, I have to agree with just about everyone else who has reviewed here this film production of "Macbeth." I found the video in my local library and was eagerly anticipating another fine performance by two of my favorite actors: Brett and Piper Laurie, especially Brett. I've seen and thoroughly enjoyed every one of the BBC Sherlock Holmes productions numerous times, and just recently was impressed with Brett's interpretation of Bassanio in the '73 TV production of "The Merchant of Venice." So, imagine my great disappointment when I was amazed by how awful this "Macbeth" really is. I would prefer to not fault the actors, but can only think that the director and producer were responsible. Not to mention the costumer and the "set" designer. I would strongly advise anyone who loves Shakespeare, Brett or Laurie, or all of the above, to avoid a most unpleasant experience.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pass by this one and don't look back
With so many good versions of Macbeth out there with such great actors as Orson Welles and Judi Dench, why waste your time and ruin your mind by watching this. This film was but a waste of money. I would reccomend not watching it and instead watching one of the other, good, versions of Macbeth. ... Read more

There's a reason the Hallmark Hall of Fame series is so acclaimed. They're well-done, thoughtful productions, and The Summer of Ben Tyler is no exception. James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern are credible, likeable, and warm as Temple and Celia Rayburn, who live in a small Southern town at the beginning of World War II. The parents of young and precocious Nell (an utterly marvelous Julia McIlvaine), they've also taken into their home Ben Tyler (an understated and very handsome Charles Mattocks), the son of their deceased "colored" housekeeper. But this is the South in the 1940s, and what is obviously kind integrity is interpreted by the close-minded town as a challenge to its outdated--and immoral--mores. Nell allows Ben to take theblame for the fire she's accidentally set in a neighbor's field. When the son of the town'srichest man is accused of manslaughter, Temple is brought in to defend him. As the trial unfolds, he's confronted with a moral dilemma. Despite the heavy subject matter, this film remains buoyant and hopeful. The acting is superb and the story expresses well its positive messages of friendship, family, trustworthiness, loyalty, morality, humanity, honesty, and strength. While Woods has been heralded for many roles in which he's played the bad guy (Ghosts of Mississippi), it's completely refreshing to see him play a profoundly good guy--and he does a darn good job, too. --N.F. 5-0 out of 5 stars A very human look at the time
In the tradition of To Kill A Mockingbird, the film takes a look at the realities of a time and the people who lived in it. It is less heavy than Mockingbird, but still takes a real, serious, and human look at the impact -- subtle and not -- of racism and the society where it was normal. It is also quite refreshing to see James Woods in a quality film and playing a normal, sane "good guy." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of The Best
This Is One Of The Best Movies About The Amish That I Have Ever
Seen. It Was Very Believable And Very Well Portrayed. Patty Duke And Lolita Davidovich Are Two Of My Favorites.
The Chemistry They Had Onscreen Was Amazing. If You Miss This Movie, You`ll Miss One Of The Best Hallmark Movies Ever Made.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Movie on Amish Lifestyle
I've studied about the Amish for years and was very impresed with this film. All thoug I knew most of the information that was givin about them.I thought that the aded protrayl of the "Outsiders"(what the Amish call us Englisheres) was very good.Thoguh it might not have the same pep as Wittness did with Harrison Ford.
It has more information on what the Amish go through when personal tragedy striks.
The movie is like able and the protryal that Sally-Sal( Lolita Davidoich) is excelent.
The Amish are strict when it comes to gender positions. As this was shown in the movie.Where the sherrif asks Sally to dress more plain and not in such a low cut beautifel two piece out fit she was wearing earlier when the first met.
In fact the sheriff was suprised that Sally was sent over to Lancasater becaouse she was a women.Again another sign that the Amish still are not quite as comfterbul with wemon having more postion.
Even so this is an excallent movie. It shows how Sally's almost none exsints information about the Amish grows through the film. And how she becomes friends with Patty Duke's character Annie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good look at Amish People
This is a good look at Amish people. I have visited the Lancaster, PA area. If one is interested in the Amish this tape portrays some of what happens, for instance there is one scene where the "English" (tourist) is trying to take pictures of the Amish. Picture taking is frowned upon based on the scripture in

Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth etc

5-0 out of 5 stars Harvest of Fire
Since I grew up in an area heavily influenced by the Amish way of life, I have first hand knowledge of the authenticity of this movie. However, authentic as it may be, it is also very entertaining as some real truths of life are revealed from both sides of the cultural differences. I think it was a movie with no agenda other than truth.

It is a must see for anyone serious about finding peace in this troubled world. I have seen it 4 times now and am purchasing it because it has helped me re-order my own priorities in life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clash of Cultures
An Amish community is plagued by an arsonist who is burning family barns. An FBI investigator is put on the case and enters the world of the Amish. There is a tension between the cultures and values of the Amish and the outside world. The film is about faith, community, and forgiveness. A tender film appropriate for the entire family. Challenges us to reflect upon our own values. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Body Language
Heather Locklear does a great job portraying a recently promoted executive at a major corporation, whose new secretary (played to perfection by Linda Purl) desires not only her boss's image, but her life. Arthur Allan Seidelman's direction seems to revolve around those high-heel, businesswoman shoes, which one eventually gets used to as the film progresses. All the acting is absolutely marvelous, most notably by Linda Purl, and the script is very well put together. Misha Segal's music is slightly cheesy but never boring, and the visual effects (such as the slow motion used when Norma stabs someone) are quite suitable for this sort of TV movie. Way above-average, and very addictive for a person who loves thrillers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Body Language
I thoroughly enjoy this rather cheesy thriller.I enjoy Heather Locklear, and as since she is a wonderful actress this was just a fun thing for her. The cool thing is that this was filmed here in my hometown of Portland Oregon. Definitely worth watching-Great clothes, makeup etc. Silly but relaxing!

3-0 out of 5 stars this video was ok.......
i am a big fan of Magnum P.I. Probably the biggest fan in the world. i have seen every episode at least twice and this episode of magnum isnt one of the ones i would have made available for vhs. Personally my favorite episodes have to do with when Magnum and Higgins are fighting over whatever. the episode "Paper War" is a really really good one. Magnum and Higgins are trapped in an elevator in it. Its really funny. MCA if you are listening why dont you guys have every single Magnum P.I. episode on vhs in a box set. Or even better DVD. Thanks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, Three and A Half
"Magnum P.I.", probably the best series in television history..It had everything...all the major elements, Drama, Action, Comedy and Mystery. In most cases, the actors worked perfectly off each other, especially Hillerman, and Selleck. What can be said about "Murder 101"? Another fine episode, but I think there are quite a few others that may have deserved the treatment of video above this one. The bonuses of purchasing the video, instead of just watching it on television? You get to see the original fifth season opening, not the one they play over, and over, with each episode in syndication, you get to see an extra three minutes of the episode, cut out in syndication, for more commercial time. All in all, good episode, worth purchase, I just wish there were more available, and it seems like the television section of video stores is slowly fading away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot for Teacher
Murder 101 (a.k.a. Private Investigation 101) is one of the funniest, most tongue-in-cheek, episodes of Magnum ever. To pay some extra bills, Magnum has succumbed to teaching a second-rate college course on how to be a P.I....uh-um, that's Private Investigator. Anyway, the class is full of bumbling yokels and they look to Magnum to help them solve a case by going on a series of "class field trips". My favorite student was Danny, the stoned surfer dude who drove the group around in his van.

It's terribly funny to watch the blind leading the blind, as Magnum tries one dead end after another, finds himself digging through trash, and gets pummeled in a seedy bar bathroom.

The cast of charaters are over-the-top goofballs who truly bring out the comical side of this otherwise dramatic series.

The grand finale "exposition" scene once again pokes fun at the series as a whole when the students start asking questions as to how the case was actually solved. (You know how most TV mysteries are always magically wrapped up in about 5 minutes.) Magnum himself can't even answer the questions, so T.C. and Rick must step in to "explain" what happened. But good luck understanding the details. Despite the sloppy wrap up (which I believe was done on purpose as a parody/joke), "Murder101" is still one of my faves. ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Private Investigation 101
Magnum teaches a class about his line of work. A lady in the class thinks her fiance is cheating on her. He is only running out on his bank job. He has discovered some incriminating evidence there. Now his life is at stake. Magnum and his students try to help this couple. This show has a few twists and turns especially at the end. Watch for the bar scene. This is the funniest scene in any Magnum show. The locals can drink their weight in beer. One huge drunk in particular zeros in on Magnum's round buying. He proceeds to swill six or seven bottles of beer in succession. MCA should release all the Magnum, P.I. shows on either vhs or dvd.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good episode with a confusing plot
A funny episode with great interplay between the main characters. However, the story is confusing about who's doing what and why. They try to "wrap" it up in the end but I was still confused. I wish they would release all of the two hour Magnum episodes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MAGNUM! There is a God! Needs to be DVD though
The Best series ever and yet no movie? Not many have seen the first episode. It's a bit strange after seeing the later ones, only because it was more serious, not as much comedy. There needs to be a push to wake Universal up ... this should have hit the silver screen Years ago! Make DVD's and a Movie!

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh My God, Magnum !
This is the first episode of a tremendous series that dominated the 1980's starring Tom Selleck as Thomas Sullivan Magnum, an ex' naval officer turned private investigator. The beginning of this episode features the hillarious round one of an ongoing confrontation between Magnum and his frequent nemesis, Jonathan Quail Higgins, who is the major domo of the Robin Masters' estate in Hawaii. This episode artfully combines humor and drama to present an outstanding harbinger of the show that ran for eight years. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dont eat the snow in Hawaii
Magnum is my absolute favorite series and when you see the first episode you'll know why he and the cast were so popular and still are to many of us. I loved how he introduced us to who he was , where he came from.
we hear him say "Ive done funnier" rub his shoulder you see a bullet wound then flashbacks intro us to Rick as a gunner and TC as a pilot in Nam (Steve Kux was a real Nam pilot responsible for all those cool shots over the opening theme hard to get but hes great and did it)
It had funny moments"Dont look at the dogs work the lock , dont look at the.." then he looks(apollo and zeus(Higgins dobermans) coming toward him) "you looked at the dogs" he was hired to see if he could breach security including steal the Ferrari. Youll see early Magnum trademarks that slow building temper esp. when he went to confront a hardnose officer who didnt like him. "youre gonna lose those bars you spent 30 years eggsucking for" (Magnum growls)important cause you'll see that temper again and again when Magnum feels he was wronged. It became a trademark the slow burn warn tone then boom he was off..and on your case.
He had very memorable music "the brazilian " in Unfinished business" and Mama in "Death and Taxes" you gotta see those two too!
Nobody had a cast like them they got along great couldnt be better friends..highly reccommend it for people who love suspense this is it!! youll be hooked..Mahalo (Thanks!!)

5-0 out of 5 stars I would recommend you to see this very first Magnum episod
Magnum PI is one of the best shows on TV ever, and I really enjoyed seeing this premier episode. If you have seen the later episodes, you can see the chemistry between the casts - they are great together. In this first episode, the characters are still very "unpolished", and you would probably have difficult to recognize the different characters if you just have seen episodes from the last seasons. For example, Rick is some kind of Bogart-look-a-like that has some kind of Casablanca-club in Honolulu...nothing like King Kamehamea Club at all. Higgins are pretty much the same, even if I miss his great stories in this 1,5 hours episode. However, this is a great production, and if you were interested in seeing a film about great adventures, Hawaii, Ferrari, Friendship, and the start of one of the most successful TV shows ever, I would recommend you to see this very first Magnum PI episode.

4-0 out of 5 stars a must see for all magnum fans
you've got to see this! I am a huge fan of the show, and this episode is definitely a classic. find out rick's real name, see the original scenes for the theme song, and learn about magnum's personality roots. I love this series, and enjoy this episode. it's not the best, but it will give you a deeper understanding of the show. thankfully they got a better theme song, and ditched the rings. the show only gets better... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I Liked This Movie!
I watched this movie on I think Lifetime TV and I liked it very much and would love to watch it again.

Melissa Gilbert is a wonderful actress and I think she gave a great acting performance and Ted Shackleford who is a good looking guy did a great acting performance too, I wasn't as impressed with the acting from some of the supporting cast but they were decent and the great acting form Ted Shackleford and Melissa Gilbert made up for that.

The review from the guy named Peter does have a good point of how a horrible wardrobe can sometimes hamper scenes, like for example in my favorite TV show Buffy The Vampire Slayer during the high school years there is a big emotional scene between Buffy and her boyfriend Angel that would have been better if Buffy had on one of her more hip stylish outfits instead of wearing pants and a sweater that looked too old for her and like it belonged to her mother but it didn't totally ruin the episode and while the clothes that Melissa Gilbert had to wear in Dying To Remember are not my style it didn't ruin the movie for me at all and I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes movies that star Melissa Gilbert.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo
I thought the move was an excellent movie. I really have an appreciation for movies of that nature. I also have had a similar experience as the star of the movie did. I wasn't paying attention to the clothes that were worn, but rather the content and the meaning of the movie. It can really make you think about a lot of things if you just sit and actually take the movie for what it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great movie that we would love to have in our collection!
Well, it's just my personal opinion but I liked this movie, so different strokes for different folks I guess! I saw this movie the other day, we had taped it when it was recently shown on TV. Ever since watching the movie Audrey Rose I have been interested in movies about people who have past life experiences and I thought Dying To Remember was a great movie, as for Melissa Gilbert's wardrobe, after reading the other review I expected her clothes in the movie to be hideous but the clothes looked okay to me and you also have to remember that when a movie is more then a couple of years old that some of the fashions will maybe look out dated to you, also we can't expect Melissa to be Laura Ingalls forever! As for the sexpot remark, no one in this movie called Melissa's character a sexpot but she was called a looker which is hardly calling someone a sexpot because a looker can mean that someone is beautiful, pretty or just attractive while a sexpot is what you would call someone like Marilyn Monroe, and I think Melissa who was cute when she was little has grown up to be very pretty, and as for the movie I thought it was suspenseful and very interesting with great acting from everyone but especially from Melissa Gilbert and Ted Shackleford and the movie had a very sad ending and though I didn't really cry my eyes out they did get a little misty. I highly recommend this movie and though we taped it when it was shown on television but it has commercials on the tape so I really wouldn't mind if we had this in our video collection but I really wish the movie would be made available on DVD!

1-0 out of 5 stars some dreams can be fatal
As a successful New York fashion designer who has recurring nightmares of a woman falling down an elevator shaft in this TVM directed by Arthur Alan Seidelman, Melissa Gilbert's uncordinated wardrobe is more alarming than any of the plot contrivances that writers George Schenck, Frank Cardea and Brian L Ross provide. The nightmares are diagnosed by a psychiatrist (styled to resemble a horror movie cast member and having a psychadelic hypnosis device) as past life regression which leads Gilbert to San Francisco as their locale.
The teleplay includes howlers like "Stop living in the past" and "I told you 30 years ago I never wanted to see you again", the cliche of Gilbert being grabbed as she looks down the open elevator shaft, and a newspaper clipping entitled "Dead Woman's Motives Still a Mystery ... ". Seidelman provides a cut from the falling woman to a bag being thrown onto a desk, but regrettably also slow motion and tilted camerawork, and even scores a laugh off Gilbert by having someone give her a second look.
Although personally styled to look lovely and playing a woman of 30 which is her real age at the time of filming, Gilbert is hardly the sexpot that all the men keep admiring and her little girl voice undermines her attempt at adult acting. Seidelman does not cast Gilbert as the dead woman. Doing so may have added something to the pedestrian narrative also given the performance of the actress who does play her, but going from Gilbert's otherwise overdone reactions, it's a hard call. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Slow Service
This seller was very slow at sending the DVDs. I ordered two. The first one was sent 17 days after I ordered it. It took so long, I finally sent an e-mail asking where it was. I had to send another e-mail asking where the second item was, because I ordered two DVD's of the same movie and only received one. When I finally received the movies, they were in great shape.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Funny, Beautiful, Charming, Film About Love and Life
For every woman in search of herself and for the men in search of what women are looking for... take heed of this movie. Linda Hamilton is curious, funny, sweet and poignant. Jacqueline Bisset is elegant, refined, sensual and sexy. The most I've ever enjoyed both of them.

This is one of those rare films whose title may mislead its audience. It is not about pagan sex, but rather a delightful comedy with a lesson in life for women, and for the men secure enough to listen and learn to their needs.

Watch this film to better yourself and to learn to appreciate the woman you love (if you are a man), or if you are a woman, watch this film to blossom into anything you want to be. Either way, be ready to enjoy this film as it will make you laugh and make you see life in a different light.

This film should belong in everyone's DVD collection to remember to live life to the fullest and reassure one's self while learning the meaning of true love.

And yes, I too am a heterosexual man whom enjoyed this film very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lifetime Television is something.
I was surfing around for something to watch and I saw this and loved it. It was a very good story that caught my eye that I enjoyed and I had to get the DVD. I have wished someone could have reawakened my life of sorrow when I was going to my doctor and had to be at the hospital and lost my enjoyment of life for a number of years. I would advise you to get a good story like this in your movie collection in DVD, you will love it. By the way this is no sex or lesbian film like a number of you think. There is just a stong scence of self put back in someones life. By the way I am a man and even a man can enjoy a beautifull story like this. Get it in DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great pairing of Jaqueline Bisset & Linda Hamilton!
Very cool to watch a movie where Linda Hamilton turns from a "plain Jane" into a woman who is sensual, sexual, and beautiful. Jacqueline Bisset is enjoyable(and sexier than ever) to watch as the "Madame" who transforms her, and makes her realize that she can be sexy too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't let the garter belt scare you!
This story is for women of any age and any marital status. Some women profess it stiffles all that women have worked for in the "coming of age" but I say this will empower you. How? It reminds us all that we must love ourselves before others can love us. The garter belts, etal, are just to get us thinking. It's true--the clothes don't matter nor does our weight or anything else. It all comes down to how you feel about you. If you exude the confidence, the rest will come to you. I know, because it worked for me and I feel fabulous! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The London Caper Case
Great as most Magnum P.I.s. This time he must go to London to figure out what happened to a friend. Things seem familiar in a strange way. That is all I will tell you so as not to spoil the fun. To bad the whole series is not on DVD. As popular as it was I am quite certain it would sell well to the people that originally watched it, and those that did not that like private eye TV shows or movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is not an Hawaiian story
When you think about Magnum PI, you most probably think about Hawaii, Ferrari, Beaches, Beautiful Girls, and other nice things. This episode are kind of different compared to most of the other Magnum PI episodes - this is not an Hawaiian story - instead Magnum have to go to London since one of his old Nam-buddies have died. Even if this episode don't have all the things you expect from a traditionally Magnum episode, this is a great story, and definitively worth seeing.

3-0 out of 5 stars TOP-NOTCH PRIVATE EYE PROGRAM
Magnum pi was for me one of the best programs on television in the 1980's. I remember seeing this particular episode not too long ago on t.v and i liked the fact it took place out of the Hawiil setting into London. All i remeber this was a fast paced episode like all the other ones and the most memorable as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magical Magnum Mystery
If you are looking for one Magnum, p.i. tape for your video collection, this is the one to get. The episode "Murder 101" which is also on video is another good choice. "Deja Vu," however, is a bit different than other Magnum episodes. First, it runs at a little over an hour and a half (so, that is more Magnum for your money.) Second, this episode is set in London and not Hawaii - but, never fear, the whole cast is there. Third, it is quite the excellent Magnum mystery with many twists and turns. In this episode, we also get to see some superior acting from Selleck and another side of the character of Higgins. For those who have not seen this episode or who don't remember it, I'm not going to give anything away. You'll have to watch it to find out. There were so many enjoyable Magnum episodes, I can't figure out why more are not available. I also can't figure out why the episodes which are available on video were chosen to be, with the exception of "Deja Vu" which most certainly should be out of video. Other episodes that should also be available though are "Unfinished Business" (an excellent Viet Nam POW/MIA episode), "Limbo" (the 1987 season finale with the excellent cliffhanger of Magnum being left in a coma), "Infinity & Jelly Doughnuts" (the first show of the next season which picks up where "Limbo" left off) and, of course, the final episode "Resolutions" which also aired for 2 hours as did "Deja Vu." Let's hope MCA Universal releases more Magnum episodes. The Tom Selleck movie "An Innocent Man" should also be re-released on video. Selleck is great no matter what he is in because he is just Tom Selleck. What also makes watching Magnum episodes enjoyable is knowing how much fun the cast had working together, how well they got along and the knowledge that Selleck was deeply loved and admired by all of the cast and others. All reports indicate that Selleck is not one of those stars whose fame went to his head. On the contrary, he has always been deemed a "nice guy" who takes good care of his friends and fellow cast members and who unselfishly shared his wealth. With Tom Selleck on screen: What you see is what you get - just an all around good guy! If you are a Magnum or Selleck fan, I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST BUYING THE BOOK: "ALOHA MAGNUM" WRITTEN BY LARRY MANETTI - the other all-around nice guy from the cast of Magnum, p.i.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deja Vu
As with all of the Magnum shows, this was another great one. I actually believe it is one of my favorites. I would love to see a lot more of the shows available for sale. Actually I would like to have a set of all the shows made. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Better-then-average TV movie.
'Trapped In Space' is an impressively subdued sci-fi TV movie that works some original variations on the Howard Hawks action formula. A merchant spaceship sailing from Earth to Venus is skippered by a demoted coward trying to arrange false testimonies for a forthcoming trial. Faced with a hurtling asteroid, he panics and takes off in the 'lifeboat', leaving behind him an edgy five-person-and-one-dog crew in the damaged ship, with only enough oxygen for three, and no possibility of contacting home. A decision is taken to draw lots to see who'll survive and who'll take cyanide, but such 'civilised' behaviour does not appeal to everyone, and one crew member decides to kill the rest.

The familiar Hawks elements are in place - the professionals stranded in an extreme situation that can only be faced with mutual co-operation; the strong women; the flawed hero who makes a fatal mistake and must achieve redemption etc. Characters and situations are set up in a way that makes us think we can guess what is going to happen and to whom. But writers Hughes and Snodgrass and director Seidelman are more pessimistic than Hawks, and their film is a fascinatingly grim look at what happens to community when individualism takes precedence. They have no problem in showing unfair, bloody deaths, animal cruelty or good, family men turning into murderers. If redemption can be glimpsed, it is at a high physical and moral cost.

The budget was not very high, and the space-ship vaults are clearly warehouses, but the glum nature of the film's themes is effectively reflected in the shabby mise-en-scene, which shares some of the dystopian mood of 'Alien'. There is some satire in the vapid newsroom reports projected to the ship, in particular at the expense of the Company who now seem to run the universe, and are more interested in cargo than crew. The actors make no attempts to be liked, which adds to the film's believability, and the constant references to ships of a maritime variety give the script an old-school-adventure sturdiness the dialogue lacks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bad title, Great film
I'm a big fan of Sci-fi movies, and I always love to find a good one hidden among the shelves of B-films. Trapped in Space (could the title be anymore of a cliché) is a great movie with a nice plot twist. It had a lot of suspense, action, and drama. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Christmas in Hawaii! However you may end up babysitting...
I rarely missed an episode of 'Magnum P.I.' when it ran on primetime in the eighties and I still occasion to watch an episode on cable TV when the opportunity presents itself. The four person cast of Tom Selleck, John Hillerman, Roger Mosley and Larry Manetti worked together excellently; equally compelling were the recurring characters, whether from Magnum's days in the Navy intelligence or Higgins' days in the British military each was a brilliantly conceived foil to both of them. That series chemistry is present here in this Christmas themed episode that revolves around a recently acquired Gauguin painting and a group of five preteen schoolgirls.

When Rick phones Magnum to tell him a client contacted him at the club to arrange a meeting, Magnum has no reason to believe this won't be anything other than the usual. However at the arranged meeting location he is surprised to find five little girls who wish to hire him to find their guardian who brought them to Hawaii for a holiday sightseeing tour. Magnum is shocked to hear that their guardian is missing and even more so at the reason they suggest. Naturally he brings them to the estate much to the chagrin of Higgins who takes an enormous amount of pleading and bargaining to gain access for the girls. But once Magnum begins investigating he soon finds himself involved in a very serpentine case that eventually imperils everyone.

A well-plotted and very satisfying episode, only the third in the then brand-spanking new series. There are no 'then unknowns' or recognizable faces in the guest cast but there are the requisite attractive ladies and of course the dogs, Zeus and Apollo who foil one of Magnum's attempts to liberate a little 'something' from the cellar. There is also a unusually good variety of location shots used in this particular show.

Note: if you've taken a flight recently watch the airport scene carefully and count the number of security checks that are missing!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best show ever!
I really liked this Magnum p.i. I found it to be very interesting and also it is packed with alot of action and adventure! It was all the things I love in a show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
I cannot figure out how Universal decided which episodes to release on VHS. There is no discernable pattern. However, I will take what I can get. There are very few episodes which I really do not like. Thankfully all of the ones they have released in this set are good ones. I think anyone who watched this show in the eighties would have a good time with this video.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where are the rest of the episodes?
This Magnum, p.i. episode is from the first year of the series and is a gem. Great for repeated viewing around Christmas time. I bought all six Magnum videos that were released several years back. I enjoy them all but wonder when they will eventually release all the episodes on tape. There is obviously a market for them. Well, since you can't find Magnum in syndication in the US at this time you better enjoy these videos. ... Read more
