These first two episodes of the charming and perceptive series The Wonder Years are an appropriate setup for the uninitiated and a must-have for fans. The original pilot introduces Kevin (Fred Savage), his best friend Paul (Josh Saviano), his childhood playmate and budding girlfriend, Winnie (Danica McKellar), and his typical late-1960s, early-'70s family: older brother and nemesis Wayne (Jason Hervey), beautiful liberal sister Karen (Olivia d'Abo), mother (Alley Mills), and father (Dan Lauria). Kevin and his friends are entering Robert F. Kennedy Junior High School, Winnie gets contacts, her brother Brian (Bentley Mitchum) is killed in Vietnam, and Kevin and Winnie share a first kiss. The opener also features some fantastic music (the Byrds' "Turn, Turn, Turn," Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crystal Blue Persuasion," and Percy Sledge's "When A Man Loves a Woman")--a trademark of the series. Great music (Buffalo Springfield, Aaron Neville, Judy Collins) also highlights "Swinger," which follows with Brian's funeral and Kevin and his pals' growing obsession with sex, fueled by their curiosity with Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask. Daniel Stern's narration is warm and engaging and the voice-over is never intrusive. This series continues to be enchanting because of its ability to mix comedy and pathos, as well as infuse a sense of dignity and history in a period many consider their most awful years. --N.F. 5-0 out of 5 stars You'll look back with Wonder too!
You can't help but interject yourself Kevin's life. He is so relatable. Also with the narration it makes us think of our own glory days of youth and the important people in our lives. The first kiss. First experience with someone dying. The intrigue of sex ed. Our best friend and knowing everything about that person. Nagging brother or sister. Fighting parents who loved each other and us. The popular music that defined the era we grew up in. I'm sure there are special songs that conjure up powerful images from your past just as the special songs from the Wonder Years does the same for each episode.

With the narration of the young Kevin and the 60s setting it reminds me of the movie Christmas Story. The Messy Marvin actor and the narration of his thoughts/dreams of the Red Ryder bb gun. Another classic! But I digres . . .

You have to see this first volume of Wonder Years! It will tug at your heart strings again! You won't be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kevin, Paul and Winnie start Junior High in the Fall of 1968
Kevin Arnold, Homer Simpson and I all graduated from high school in the same year. But when we first meet Kevin, Paul and Winnie as they are heading for their first day of school at the newly renamed Robert F. Kennedy Junior High School in the Fall of 1968. "The Original Pilot" (January 31, 1988) aired after the Super Bowl that year, guaranteeing itself a big audience. What they saw was Kevin (Fred Savage) having a hard time at school. His best friend Paul (Josh Saviano) is no help, his older brother Wayne (Jason Hervey) is out to get him, and Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar), the tomboy down the street is now wearing go-go boots and inducing major hormonal problems. So Kevin immediately finds himself in trouble with the assistant principal, forcing his mom (Alley Mills) and dad (Dan Lauria) to come down and pick him up. However, when they drag Kevin home to be punished, his sister Karen (Olivia D'Abo) has some horrible news that makes everything moot. The ending of this first-rate pilot episode is a most bittersweet moment between Kevin and Winnie. Things are back to as normal as like got for young teenagers in the late Sixties in "Swinger" (March 29, 1988), where Kevin and Paul's Phys. Ed. teacher has started teaching Sex Education. Do you remember "Our Body, Ourselves"? Both of these episodes were written by Neal Marlens & Carol Black. Interesting footnote: The pilot episode was directed by Steve Miner, who got his start doing a couple of "Friday the 13th" films. In a lot of ways I think "The Wonder Years" was the "Leave It To Beaver" of its day, even if it was set twenty years in the past (when it first aired), with the key difference being Winnie. Beaver never had a girl friend like Winnie and it is their relationship, which goes from puppy love to teenage infatuation to something more lasting, is at the heart of "The Wonder Years." Also, before there was "Forrest Gump" it was this television show that made use of the music that was the soundtrack for our lives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kevin Arnold captures our memories as we go back to 1968.
A 12 year old boy named Kevin Arnold (played by Fred Savage) growing up in the 1960's through the 1970's. He has to deal with this parents (Dan Lauria / Alley Mills), brother, sister, best friend, school and of course girlfriend Winnie Cooper (played by Danica McKellar). The person who narrates and describes everything for us is off screen adult Kevin Arnold (portrayed by Home Alone's Daniel Stern). This is a TVG comedy-drama the whole family will enjoy. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Only for the die-hard fan
As a devoted fan of the Wonder Years, I must say that I was disappointed in this video collection. Not only is the quality poor (fading in and out, scratchiness, etc.) but there are only two episodes per video (on this one and on vol. 1). I appreciate the early episodes, but they definitely made a mistake by passing up some of the gems of the later seasons ("The Lake"/cara episode, "Goodbye", anything with Becky Slater...and of course, the 2-part series finale). Unless you're desperate and this is truly your only option, I would recommend holding out until something better comes along.

4-0 out of 5 stars My review
The episodes on this video both really make you think. Not only are they both amusing, they also capture your heart. "My Father's Office" is a father-son episode, in which Kevin goes to work with his father and uncovers a few mysteries of the life of his father. He learns a few reasons why his father is the way he is. "Angel" is a funnier episode than the first, but it still manages to have a moral at the end and make you think. In it Karen, Kevin's older sister, has a new boyfriend, that Kevin discovers is cheating on her and Kevin tries to find ways to get rid of him. So if you're a Wonder Years fan, I reccommend you add this great video to your collection!

5-0 out of 5 stars A fabulous trip down memory lane!
The Wonder Years is a show about innocence in a time not so innocent. The naration parallel to the beautiful script and hilarious acting, make the trip down memory lane a lot easier to swallow. Which, I assume, is it's initiative. As for these two episodes, the first is a must see. For those who had a father figure, this is a must see. It may make you want to reconsider the relationship with your son, or daughter. The other episode is another classic in a very classy t.v. show that will hopefully teach you as much as it has taught me about myself and my past. ... Read more

Saucy character comedian extraordinaire Tracey Ullman dons the guise of her most famous personas and candidly lays the issues of Sex, Romance, Fantasy on the table for all to gawk at and admire. In this three-episode set, pulled from her successful HBO series, Ullman's characters act out and display the age-old issues that drive our desires. The elderly Chinese bakery lady philosophizes on the similarity of romance and the donut business. The Arabian stud Chic the Cab Driver tells the tale of how the "Chic magnet" came of age in the steamy desert of his homeland with a pro that begged him for more. Veteran makeup artist Ruby Romaine, Star Maker, gives professional words of wisdom and support to the rising starlets on a porn set. The middle-aged Jewish ladies duet, Fern and Kay, discuss the adventurous highlights and shady lowlights of their sex lives over a pastrami on rye. Sex, Romance, Fantasy may not provide answers to life's most complex questions, but, as always, Ullman's wry sense of humor won't disappoint. --Rob Bracco ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars British Comedy Girl Wonder makes us laugh & think
The Tracey Takes On comedy series is definitely a cut above the usual "ha-ha" material out there. Tracey Ullman finds the comedy in every day situations, but also the absurdity and irony in life's little and big surprises.

Whether it's a stereotypical portrayal of a middle-class "New York Jewish woman" fearing for the health of her heart-attack victim husband, an elderly Asian woman fulfilling her American Dream with her donut shop, or a small-time golf-pro who hesitates acknowledging her gay relationship to the world, Tracey Ullman takes on every possible viewpoint on the issues of Sex, Romance and Fantasy.

The sketch about a woman reporting to the police that she had briefly been abducted by aliens is a gem! There are many great scenes in this batch of goodies cooked up by one of Britain's brainiest comedy stars. Tracey Ullman's gift for comedy rivals that of the up-and-coming "French & Saunders" team. Tracey Takes on receives a solid 5-star rating!*****

5-0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT, Hilarious, Classic Comedy
Tracey Takes On is one of the most outstanding comedy series that I have ever seen. The show combines the literate wit of British Comedy, the American pop culture sensibility of the Harvard Lampoon, and the "broken Hollywood dream" reality of a Tarantino film. This series is a true work of genius. Not only is Tracey Ulman to be applauded, but also the writers and the supporting cast. It's unbelievable that a show of this calibre was produced in the same country as Night Court.

5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy....About This Movie
I fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it. Somehow it always makes me feel that we can find love and happiness if we are willing to take a few risks. There is a reason this movie has almost all 5 star reviews.. you can't help but feel good after you watch it. Sly commentary about the way we all to often view life and people, with some really great lines. I was telling a friend about the other day and when she asked " So does she stay with the man?" I just smiled and said " You will have to watch it and see for yourself!".. and so will you!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A refreshing and poignant story, one of my favorite films!
Ask my friends. They have heard me rave about this movie for years. Isn't it about time the studio dropped the price?? I've been watching and lending my copied-from-TV version (commercials included) long enough. The story is wonderful and with Christine Lahti and Ruben Blades bringing the characters to life, it is perfect! The supporting actors were wisely cast as well. THIS FILM TELLS US WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE!

5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy From The Heart - Should have made it to Theatres!!
I loved Crazy from the Heart. I hope they make it available in DVD Soon!!! This is a Great Movie!! Watched it every time it was on Television!! Wish I still owned a VCR to watch it again and again. Make it available on DVD soon!!!

Tracey Ullman can make absolutely anything funny, and when she works with material straight out of show biz, she can't lose.Tracey Takes on... Movies, Vanity, Fame, three episodes (plus outtakes) from her Emmy-winning HBO series, traces her interconnected cast of characters' relationships with the Dream Factory and all its trappings.Faded star Linda Granger gets a taste of the bitter side of fame, stuntwoman Rayleen Gibson saves the day (again), and legal hotshot Sydney Kross gets a head-to-toe courtroom makeover; all of these mix Ullman's barely contained mania with a refined, mature sense of humor that lets the viewers find their own laugh lines amidst the all-too-real vignettes and conversations. Her characterizations are as detailed and biting as ever, mocking Yanks, Brits, and practically everyone else with studied ease and showing us all our most embarrassing moments writ large.Whether you've watched her avidly or have yet to experience her crazed genius, Tracey Takes On... Mike Myers's first feature role without his Wayne's World wig is a performance at odds with the best interests of the movie. Myers plays a single guy who always manages to find something seriously wrong with each of his girlfriends. His new love (Nancy Travis), a butcher, may be the perfect woman, except for one thing: she might be a "black-widow" killer who prefers dispatching husbands with a sharp instrument. Robbie Fox's original script has a fine shape and strong, black-comedy material within it. But Myers creates unnecessary dissonance by playing a variety of characters (including an irascible Scotsman like the one he often played on Saturday Night Live) and accenting his skills as an improvisational comic (such as impersonating the soothing cadences of a massage therapist). It's not that Myers isn't funny doing all that, but it has nothing to do with the movie. Directed by Thomas Schlamme (Miss Firecracker). --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Criminally underrated
I'd say this is one of Mike Myers' best films. It can be safely described as a cult film after an unfair failure at the box office grossing only $12 million. Myers plays dual roles as Charlie MacKenzie, a commitment fearing coffeehouse poet and his dad, Stuart, a paranoid, singing, hard drinking Scotsman complete with accent. After a series of failed relationships, all of Charlie's self undoing, he meets the perfect woman in Harriet (Nancy Travis), a sweet butcher. Charlie's inhibitions get the best of him when he starts suspecting a few things. As far as the DVD, it pretty much sucks and can be described as a bit of a disappointment with the exception of three languages (including english), and the film's strange trailer which pretty much describes what the movie's going to be like in a nutshell. If you see the trailer, there's a deleted scene in the movie. That's something that I don't like about certain DVDs. They just put the trailer and the standard stuff on it but don't put anything else on it like the TV spots like some actually do. Getting back to So I Married An Axe Murderer, you may or may not like it depending on what comedy you're into. Everyone I've talked has liked it but then they're all around my age. Rather than that, movie is very delightful and entertaining. Look for a lot of cameos.

4-0 out of 5 stars So, I Laughed My Butt Off
I admit I didn't like this movie at first; I've never been much a fan of watching Mike Myers mug his way through films. I dislike Wayne's World and despise Austin Powers.

This charming movie, however, Myers' fourth film outing, shows a subdued and sweet actor finding his way among a dozen equally-talented, incredible comedic actors. Other reviewers have focused on Myers' portrayal of the racy Scottish father, but to me that's just another example of him chewing up scenery like it was chocolate-covered graham crackers. Instead, take some time to watch him interact with Amanda Plummer or Anthony LaPaglia, his underappreciated costars. He is quiet, charming, vulnerable and funny, without being obnoxious.

The story is about Charlie McKenzie, a beat poet in San Francisco who has a history of dumping women for stupid reasons ("She smelled like soup...beef vegetable soup..." He meets Harriet, a lady butcher, with whom he falls in love. But wait! Is it possible she's the murderous Mrs. X, who marries men and kills them on their honeymoons? Charlie thinks so, and the ride is on from there.

Pay special attention to the hysterical interplay between Alan Arkin and LaPaglia who play a police captain and undercover detective, respectively. Also watch for the uncredited costar, the city of San Francisco, which is shot more beautifully here than I've seen in any other film.

This DVD deserves a lot of extras, commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, outtakes, etc. With a stunning cast like this one, there must be treasures moldering in a vault somewhere, but you'll find none of them here. Aside from a soundtrack in Portuguese (? ) and subtitles in Korean, Thai and a host of other languages, you'll find none of that here. You'll just have to be satisfied with a wonderful movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Underrated Myers Film-Great Cast Performances To Boot
Mike Myers stars as Charlie MacKenzie; a guy that is hung up on finding that perfect woman for him. Charlie's friend Tony Giardino (Anthony LaPaglia) states that Charlie has dumped several really great gals. Charlie insists that his last girlfriend smelled like SOUP! Charlie meets Harriet Michaels (Nancy Travis) whilst buying a haggis for his mom in a "Meats Of The World" butcher shop where Harriet works . Thus, the romance ensues. Little does Charlie know that Harriet has MANY deep, dark secrets in her closet.

Mike Myers does a lot of improv plus he plays Charlie's father, Stuart, who has some of the best lines and bits in the movie.

Brenda Fricker is also excellent as Charlie's mom, May.

Amanda Plummer plays Harriet's strange and odd sister, Rose.
Some great cameos like the late, great Phil Hartman as an Alcatraz prison guide named "Vicky", Michael Richards, Maureen O'Boyle, Alan Arkin, Debi Mazar, Charles Grodin, and Glen Vernon to name just a few.

If you like Mike Myers humor this is a "must see"!

Happy Watching!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cast!
Cannot add much that hasn't been said, except that this movie is really one of those rare ensemble cast-gems! I would have liked hanging out with Charley and his friends and family -- well maybe not Rose.

(I agree that the DVD lacks the extras that all true fans would want!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Myers
With a possible exception to the original Austin Powers, So I Married an Axe Murderer is quite possibly the best Mike Myers' film to date, whether he or anyone else thinks so. Wayne's World included. Not only does it include amazing work by an all star supporting cast (Travis, Plummer, LaPaglia, Frick, Arkin, Grodin, Wright and Hartman), but it combines Mike Myers' comedy skills with fresh mysterious plot twists in an otherwise basic romantic comedy. Myers should be commended for his (and Shlamme's) work at bringing forth the inherant laid back nature and frequently ludicrous feel of the nouveau San Fransisco beat poetry scene. Just listen to him recite 'Harriet' and you will know exactly what I mean. This film is the front runner in seeing Myers' earliest creation of true art through his poke-fun-at-what-you-love/imitation is the highest form of flattery period specific homages, only to be magnified and perfected later on in the original Austin Powers movie. For those who recognized and appreciated the more obscure 60's references in the first Austin Powers, you will understand what Myers was on to in his work in Axe Murderer. An excellent film, the difference laying with Myers more reserved everyman character in Axe Murderer, complete with realistic flaws. Thankfully, the humor and drama are never sacrificed for one another in this film. Unfortunately, it is most likely this sophistication and subtle balance that has kept so many from truly appreciating the work in this film, having known him mostly for his more quirky or off the wall characters. A must for anyone who is looking to see the development of this man's career and truly good acting from a gifted comedian; or for anyone who is just a fan of all things Scottish. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Wonder Years is the best T.V. show ever created!
Wow! This tape would make an excellent gift for all Wonder Years fans! In the first episode, sweet 12-year-old Kevin Arnold is trying to find a present for his girlfriend Winnie and at the same time, the whole Arnold household is hoping Jack, the father will buy them a color t.v. for Christmas. In the end, Kevin learns that Christmas is more than presents and is about the memories and special moments in life. In the second episode, Kevin is older (sixteen-years-old) and is trying to find the perfect present for Winnie again. After the family, suffers a financial blow because Jack's partner decides to not invest in the furniture company, the holiday spirit is again being tested. I enjoyed the tapes so much and I watch them over and over. Definately a good tape.

The story was excellent, but the tape quality was awful. It looked like somebody taped it at home off their VCR. I was beginning to think it was bootlegged.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Touching and Heartwarming Show I have ever seen
When I first saw an episode of the Wonder Years, I didn't connect with it much. I thought it was a show for kids, one that didn't have much bearing on me. As I watched it more, especially on Nick at Nite when there was nothing else on, I began to realize that this show was unique. Not only did it appeal to younger audiences with its light-hearted humor, but that it even appealed to middle to late teenagers like me, with its displays of Kevin's relationships, his feelings, and his growth as a person. This show deals with practically every difficulty that adolescents must face, from strange parents to changing friends. It is rare that a show has actually been able to reach out and touch my heart, but it seems that this show is able to do it whenever I watch it. My only wish was that they had the entire series available, so that I could watch it from start to finish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Show!
This is the Best Show to ever come out in the Wonder Years collection.I really liked it and I couldn't stop watching it.It's the best show on Nickelodeon,in my opinion.I loved the video.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, slightly twee sometimes, and...
The script of the series is good and the actors did a great job. However, I just "wonder" what happened to Fred Savage during the years spent on the making of the series. Did he grow up normally, as we were watching him, in this sort of Truman's show? Of course, we did not watch his real life but we did watched him all the same. It would be a relief to know if he does not hate this series now.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most unforgettable and best t.v. show ever!!!
This show is most definately the best show ever made! I love THE WONDER YEARS! I'm trying to collect all the episodes. Kevin Arnold is just like me in so many ways. He's so hilarious and sweet. Each episode is unforgettable and makes you laugh or cry...

5-0 out of 5 stars "There's Always Eternal Grace"-Henley's Play Brought To Life
Contemporary playwright, Beth Henley's ("Crimes Of The Heart") "The Miss Firecracker Contest" is brought to life and to the big screen.

The film features an incredible Holly Hunter as the tramp of the town turned wanna-be good girl beauty queen Carnelle Scott. Carnelle was an abandoned little girl who was dropped off at her aunt's house in Yazoo City not more than a year old with ringworm, diaper rash and a bag of dirty rags.

Deeply intense, Tim Robbins as cousin Delmount Williams (recently out of a mental ward) and the beautiful Mary Steenburgen as Elain Rutledge (a forever young beauty queen) grew up with young Carnelle in their household and under their mother's care and Carnelle is more like a sister to them than a cousin.

After Carnelle works on her talent routine for FIVE years and then dyes her hair a bright red, she gets up enough gumption to enter the Yazoo City Miss Firecracker Contest!

Enter Alfre Woodard as Popeye, the local seamstress that learned her trade at the tender age of four - sewing costumes and clothes for the Yazoo City's neighborhood bullfrogs! Carnelle hires Popeye to help her with her costumes for the beauty pageant. All Popeye wants to do is move to Elysian Fields (a funny and touching scene inthe movie) to forget about her troubles and eat ambrosia all the live long day.

A week before the pageant, the carnival shows up in town with all it's pretty lights and fun rides. Scott Glenn as the carnie, Mac Sam has a romantic history with Carnelle and is certainly dying of lung and kidney failure when he shows up in Yazoo City in the year 1988. This year will be his last for a Firecracker Celebration.

It seems Carnelle has a reputation around town and that she slept with any guy that crossed her path just so they would tell her that she was beautiful back in her younger years. EVEN a YOUNG Mr. Richard Fish from Ally McBeal (Greg Germann) makes an appearance as one of Carnelle's old lovers and is a total hick of a peanut throwin', hootin' and hollarin' idiot, by the name of Ronnie Wayne. Ann Wedgewood as emcee, Miss Blue and Amy Wright (Rose Leary from The Accidental Tourist) as hunch-backed beauty contestant Missy Mahoney also have small but great parts!

If only Carnelle wins the Miss Firecracker Contest, she will finally feel the acceptance and satisfaction she has longed for all her life. Is it Carnelle's chance to shine? What happens between Popeye and Delmount? Does Elain leave her husband?

Turn on, tune in and watch to see what happens!

This movie isn't a chick flick by any means. It's really a TRAGECOMEDY with happy, funny, sad, and downright depressing moments that make you think...Hmmmmmm.

Happy Watching!

5-0 out of 5 stars A thing of beauty is a joy forever...
I've been waiting ages for this to come out on dvd, having worn out my vhs copy ages ago. Touching and hilarious all at once, full of quirky characters and brilliant performances by Holly Hunter, Tim Robbins, Alfre Woodard, Mary Steenburgen, and Scott Glenn. An unknown gem!

5-0 out of 5 stars Holly Hunter, Tim Robbins, and Mary Steenburgeen are great
This movie is so funny and at the same time very sad. It takes
place in Yazoo City Mississippi. Every year there is a big fair
and the high point in the Miss Firecracker Contest. Holly Hunter
worships her cousin Elaine played to perfection by Mary Steenburgeen. Elaine was once a winner in the Miss Firecracker
Contest, and Holly Hunter wants to enter. Elaine has come back
to deliver a speech as she has moved on and made a successful
life for herself. Holly Hunter has no confidence and it means
everything to her to win. The movie is full of crazy characters
and really shows southern life. Tim Robbins plays Mary Steenburgeen's brother and Holly Hunter's cousin. He is so
funny in this movie. Holly Hunter is great as the girl trying
so hard to win. Mary Steenburgeen is beautiful as a past winner
but her character is vain and selfish. This movie is so funny
and you will love it. Great acting, story, script, and cast

5-0 out of 5 stars This has been my favorite film for years
An incredibly uplifting story, funny, and superbly acted by every member of the cast; and it has a beautiful score to boot. One of the most inspiring films I've ever seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars The original go-go girl!
Watching Holly Hunter in this movie is amazing - reminds me of the hyper opening scene in The Unsinkable Molly Brown, with Debbie Reynolds. The whole cast is fantastic, and the setting oozes down-home ambience. If you can ignore the dopey last scene, you'll agree this one's a blast! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Proof why Martin is the best!

Any fan of Martin Lawrence will like this DVD. I am a huge Martin fan and had to have this when I saw it.

There are twelve chapters to this DVD and each one of them will give you tons of laughter.

Relatively little is immune from Martin's humor. The subjects range from relationships to childhood to Jeffery Dahmer.

For anyone who remembers his appearance on Saturday Night Live (the one he got in HUGE trouble with NBC and I believe banned from SNL and perhaps the network for) some of the material should be familiar to you.

The front of the DVD packaging uses the words "uncut", "unrated" and "unbelievably funny". All are true.

If you are easily offended by profanity and comedy about sexual situations I would recommend passing up this DVD. However, if neither of those bother you and you love laughing hysterically, "You So Crazy" is definitely something you should add to your DVD collection.

This material is proof why Martin Lawrence is the best! It is just as funny now as it was in 1993 and as it will be in 2013.

4-0 out of 5 stars You so Funny!!!
This stand up is really good, I am a fan of Martin Lawrence anyway but this is really good!!!! He hits on stuff that a lot of us have been through so it really hits home on some of it. If you like Martin in his movies you will love him in his stand up too. His new stand up is even better than this one, so pick them both up and enjoy!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Martin Lawrence is a funny guy, just not a funny stand-up.
I first watched this when I was in middle school and thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I then re-watched it a year ago and didn't laugh one time. It wasn't because I had heard the jokes before, but because he just wasn't funny. If you ask most stand-up fans, they will tell you that Martin Lawrence just is not a good stand-up comedian.

5-0 out of 5 stars very funny
Loved it ,every part of it is funny.

4-0 out of 5 stars Martin Shinin
I remember this performance. Way back, i was hanging out in shop and we were all listening to the cassette tape on a mini boom box. needless to say we laughed so hard we got kicked out of class. I'm tellin you I couldn't stop listening to this. Fast forward a few years when [I could not afford cable] and HBO re-runs it. That made my week. I think his first performance was better than the second, runtelldat, but both are amazing. martin brings comedy with heart, passion, and with a "you know what I'm talkin 'bout" feel. Martin, if you out there, keep battling and keep up the great standup, The OG of Def Comedy Jam. But man, will somebody explain to me how he did that show all in leather? One luv. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bette only introduces the acts, they are the stars.
Despite what other reviews say, this is a great collection of diverse performance art. Bill Irwin has lasted, La La La Human Steps was an interesting dance duo, and the Yes/No People went on to become Stomp. Not everything in this set works, but it is quite interesting, even if you don't like Bette Midler.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm.....
Creative numbers, funny situations and wild 80's fashion can't help this little (1 hour long) 'show' from being a total flop.
Bette Midler plays a Euro-styled Ed Sullivan, presenter of the crazy and Bizarre. Her Variety show includes comic Davie Cale, Shuffling Bill Irwin, the 'explosive' Kipper Kids, dancers La La La Human Steps, the weird Pat Oleszko, the Yes/No People and Comedian Paul Zaloom.
This is ridiculous~! What was Bette thinking? All that hair/awful clothes and that Italian accent.
Get this only if you are a Midler completist. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodman's Triumph
First, I'm not a big fan of John Goodman. But I really admire his performance here. I'm impressed with the degree to which he immersed himself into the role of the Kingfish! He captured all the mannerisms, traits, and expressions. I've done extensive research and have watched numerous films on Huey P. Long. At points in this film, John Goodman actually becomes Huey Long!!! Maybe I've now become a fan of Goodman! One of the best films on American politics I've seen--I actually prefer it to Crawford's performance in "All the King's Men."

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent movie, good acting
John Goodman does a great job playing Huey Long, but the movie leaves alot to be desired. Most of the characters, like Earl Long, Jim Farley, and even FDR, are one dimensional, with more emphasis on Huey's inner circle. This movie is enjoyable, but read the T. Harry Williams book afterwards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Huey Long
This film is the best part John Goodman has ever done. The historical part of Huey Long is one of the most colorful in American history of the era. No one could play this part better than John Goodman. As a history buff, this is one of the best portrayals of one of the most interesting politicians in American history.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bravura John Goodman performance in a quality production
This film produced for TNT in 1995 would deserve attention if only for John Goodman's bravura performance. He is fascinating to watch here. One seldom sees an screen actor (on large or small screen) get to sink his teeth so completely into a character. Leonard Maltin's review above, however, suggests that Goodman IS the sole reason to watch this film. I'd have to disagree. The direction by noted TV director Thomas Schlamme is solid, and the script by Paul Monash is compelling. The sets, lighting and cinematography capture that 30s aura perfectly. And the rest of the cast is fine, particularly Ann Dowd, Anne Heche, Matt Craven, Hoyt Axton and Jeff Perry. Goodman dominates--as well he should--but this is overall a well-acted, serious and intelligent film. It's significant, for instance, that actors like Goodman and Heche are as good here or better as they've been in any number of cinematic releases. We occasionally hear from actors that in this era of big budgets and special effects, the meatier roles are on the small screen. A film like KINGFISH certainly helps prove the point. ...

A must for anyone who is looking to see the development of this man's career and truly good acting from a gifted comedian; or for anyone who is just a fan of all things Scottish. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beginning of everything...
Years ago, when Dr. Mark Green had hair, and Carter looked like a high school graduate, ER debuted. It has been one of the most succesful shows on TV ever! and although many of its original starts are no longer in the shows, it still rocks.

If you are a fan (if you are reading this, you probably are), see how every thing got started. The long shifts, the bad pay, the terrible food and the addiction to coffee, these actors made ER what it is today. I love it. Every now and then I watch the pilot again. It moves me all the time.

See Mark Green in action and Dr. Benton's attitude in a pilot that started it all.

Do yourself a favor and buy it. You will not regret it.

Enjoy the show!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Show Of All Time
"ER" has been my favorite show ever since it came on the air. I love every bit of the suspense and I can't say that I have ever seen an episode that I thought was boring. Every single episode if wonderfully made and I love each character for their originality. My favorite female character was Julianna Marguiles though (Dr. Carol Hathaway). She is such an excellent actress and I admire her for all she has accomplished. Noah Wyle, what a hottie! Well, I am only 13 years old, but I still love everything about this show and always will! The first episode was interesting and inspiring. It just shows you that this may be a TV show, but in real life, these things go on.

4-0 out of 5 stars This Pilot is Also in The Complete First Season DVD Boxset!
ER is a great show and the premier pilot movie is very good and introduces us to the great characters actors and stories that made the TV show so interesting to watch. One of my favorite characters is Carol Hathaway played by the teriffic Julianna Margulies (SP?) and this pilot really showcases her talents but also terrific are George Clooney as Doug Ross, Anthony Edwards as Mark Greene, Eriq Lasalle as Peter Benton, Noah Whylie as John Carter and Sherry Stringfield as Susan. If you have a DVD player I recommend buying the complete first season on DVD because it has this very same pilot and all the rest of the episodes of season 1 so why limit yourself to just the pilot?

4-0 out of 5 stars Get the scoop on the beginnings of one tvs best
ER is a great series. I personally don't watch anymore--stopped a year ago. [It's a time slot issue... sleep vs. tv] However, this is a genius show with a lot to offer and if you missed the beginning of the series, it's a great way to catch up!

5-0 out of 5 stars ER shines in this Brilliant Masterpiece
ER was brilliant. I was just sitting there without taking my eyes off the T.V. If you love the drama and suspense this is your show. It was so real unlike other shows where you know where all the gadgets and computer animation was done, it was like you were right there next to the doctors and looking at the patient. ER shows the truth behind being a doctor in the hospital its turns, ups and downs and consequences. Although we know none of its real, all fiction it is very alive and realistic. Watching it over and over never got boring for me, it was just better. It was very interesting getting to know the crew and its begginning. I give ER the best ratting five out of five. ...

If you can ignore the dopey last scene, you'll agree this one's a blast! ... Read more

This set carries the show's 10 best episodes. Friends has matured into one of the few sitcoms that can truly be judged "must-see." The ensemble--Courteney Cox Arquette, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc--provide a master class in chemistry in this two-tape set. Volume 1 includes some of the best of the Ross-Rachel episodes. Their star-crossed relationship is set in motion in the "Pilot," in which runaway bride Rachel moves in with Monica. "The One with the Two Parts" features guest appearances by Helen Hunt and George Clooney, not to mention Marcel the monkey. Lovelorn Ross tries not to be a nice guy but throws in the cards in "The One with All the Poker." "The One Where Ross Finds Out" and the great flashback episode "The One with the Prom Video" finally bring Ross and Rachel together.

Volume 2 contains "The One Where No One's Ready" and "The One with the Embryos." The two-part "The One with Ross's Wedding," in which Ross famously blurts the wrong name at the altar, launched Monica and Chandler's secret affair, a subplot that revitalized the series. Two gems from season 5, "The One with All the Thanksgivings" and "The One Where Everybody Finds Out" (about Monica and Chandler), illustrate why Lisa Kudrow won the ensemble's lone Emmy. --Donald Liebenson ... 5-0 out of 5 stars irresistible comedy
FRIENDS is one of the most loved and successful sitcoms ever made and its not hard to see why. A talented ensemble cast, great recurring characters and flawless scripts and direction all come together to create one fabulous series!

Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Courteney Cox Arquette (Monica), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matt Le Blanc (Joey), Matthew Perry (Chandler) and David Schwimmer (Ross), all add pathos and charm to their portrayals of six singles friends who help each other through the pitfalls and anguish of being single in New York City.

There's Monica and Ross's parents (Elliot Gould and Christina Pickles), Rachel's mother (Marlo Thomas), irritating ex-girlfriend-of-Chandler Janice (Maggie Wheeler), Ross's lesbian ex-wife Carol (Jane Sibbert), and the list goes on...........

Every single episode of FRIENDS has been released on video in Australia, each season has a 6-video set, 4 eps on each tape.

The series holds up beautifully with repeat viewings, and there's always something you pick up that you did not notice before.

Marta Kauffman and David Crane have to be commended for creating the endearing, wickedly comical FRIENDS.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's about time we got Friends on tape!
I am a long time fan of this show, having watched it every weeknight at 7 and 11 in syndication on a local station for the past three years. I also, of course, watch it on NBC at 8 every Thursday when I can. I remember voting on the official site for my favorite episodes last year, and I'm glad they finally put the top ten on video! I went out last night and bought this set and boy am I glad I did! It has some of the best episodes of the series, or of any comedy on tv. The Pilot will basically introduce you to the characters and give you their history while also foreshadowing things like Ross-Rachel. The One With Two Parts (One Hour) features Phoebe coping with her identical twin Ursula when Joey wants to ask her out and also Rachel and Marcel the monkey ending up in the hospital. The One With All the Poker features the gals wanting to play poker with the guys and Ross becoming falsely macho but then throwing in the game out of love. The One Where Ross Finds Out is one of the best Ross-Rachel episodes ever, featuring Ross finding out that Rachel knew he liked her and then falling in love with him and them having their first kiss at the end. The One With the Prom Video is probably my favorite episode, featuring Chandler hating a piece of jewelry Joey gave him out of friendship and Rachel liking Ross again after seeing the sweet thing he did in the prom video they watch which shows how wacky they were back then! The One Where No One's Ready is all about Ross wanting to go to a banquet but everyone being slow and Rachel getting mad at him. The One With the Embryos features Phoebe deciding to be a surrogate mother for her step-brother Frank and his wife. The One With Ross's Wedding (One Hour) features the gang going to London (except the pregnant Phoebe), Joey being homesick, Rachel deciding to rush over the London (after staying home) to tell Ross she loves him, Rachel going there, Ross famously saying the wrong name at the altar, and basically just the whole "incident" with Emily and Ross' wedding. The One With All the Thanskgivings is a hilarious episode where the gang shares past Thanksgiving stories and we flashback to some funny incidents, making Monica get mad at Chandler, Chandler get mad at Monica, and Monica cheering him up by putting her head in a turkey. The One Where Everybody Finds Out is an episode from season 5 which features Rachel, Joey, and Phoebe, trying to make Monica and Chandler admit their relationship; Phoebe pretends to hit on Chandler and then when seducing him makes him uncomfortable enough to say that he is in love with Monica; Ross moves into Ugly Naked Guy's apartment which faces Monica's so guess how he feels when he sees them...doing it! But that's not all! Every episode is not just what we see on tv, but what was in the original teleplay! There is so much extra footage you'll be amazed! I
