5-0 out of 5 stars A movie that is deserving of being re-released.
I think Tommy Lee Jones does a wonderful job of portraying the life of an actual person. He shows you the many different sides, good and bad, of a man who probably wishes his life would have been different, better, and probably wishes he was never born.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tommy Lee Jones is superb in his portrayal of Gary Gilmore.
What a great movie! Tommy Lee does a superb performance portraying the convicted killer Gary Gilmore. Tommy Lee and Roseanne Arquette really make this movie execiting. I think this is one of the finest true life dramas ever produced. BRING BACK THIS MOVIE!! I would really like to purchase this movie. Why isn't it available? I'm sure I am not the only one who would like to purchase it. Please BRING IT BACK!

5-0 out of 5 stars EXECUTIONERS SONG TOMMY LEE JONES
Tommy Lee Jones is clearly outstanding as Gary Gilmore. He captures the expressions and emotions behind the character like noone else could. The drama takes you through the craziness that Gary Gilmore had throughout his life and shows the love-hate relationship that friends and family had for him. Tragic, yet facinating, this movie is sure to hold your interest time after time.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Real Gary Gilmore is lost here
I found this movie rather disappointing. After reading the Pullitzer Prize winning novel by Norman Mailer,& an in depth interview with Gary Gilmore by Playboy in 1977,it is for certain that Gary Gilmore was not accurately portrayed in this movie. The book was well researched based on actual court transcripts, letters between Gary & Nicole,& interviews with several people who knew the convicted murderer.
In the movie, the man was played with far too much feeling. The character came across as too mannerly & wimpy. The real Gary was no wimp by any stretch of the imagination.Consider a man at 35 who spent half of his life locked up.A man who killed 2 men execution style for no reason whatsoever - without even batting an eye.A guy like that is not going to be overly sensitive. The movie portrays him as a sensitive person. In actual fact he was quite intelligent, but rather curt & aggressive in interview,& only showed any iota of feeling for his mother, his brother,& Nicole,& even then it was basic.
Maybe it was in part due to the fact the movie was made for TV.The first part of the movie I kept wondering when the real Gary would come across. It was only in the second part where Gary was captured, that parts of the real Gary Gilmore were allowed to shine through. Some things were true to form, for instance when the Judge asked Gary what his preferred mode of execution would be,Tommy Lee played that out exactly as it should be with the exact words Gary said. There were a few other scenes where he played it well.I don't think it had anything to do with the acting at all.It was probably the fault of writing & directing that caused the essence of the real man to be lost.As well I think Roseanna Arquette made Nicole seem a lot more intelligent than she really was.
What this movie needed was to show the character as hard, edgy,& aggressive. The movie should also have captured the period with more 70's hit songs, than just a couple with a great deal of hokey country tunes for the soundtrack. Also they completely botched up the music that actually played in the van when Gary was taken to the cannery for his execution. The real song that played would have been perfect because of the lyrics, but the filmmaker botched that up too,& once again,on comes another hokey, tear in yer beer country tune.
If you want to find out about the real Gary Gilmore, read the book by Norman Mailer. It's fascinating & factual. If you can get a hold of that back issue -The April 1977 issue of Playboy, that contains the powerful interview with Gary Gilmore ,GET IT!It's very enlightening & profound.Check out the A & E biography of him,& get a hold of Mikal Gilmore's book about his brother.
This movie is well cast,& fairly good. However you only get a tiny glimpse of the real killer here.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST!
One of the best movies period! Tommy Lee Jones is great as Gary Wayne Gilmore. Rosanne Arquette does an outstanding job as Gary's wife and Eli Wallach is outstanding as Gary's uncle. The foreign version (in english) is better than the US version as it includes extra scenes. Should be released on DVD. ... Read more

Description

"The Plot to Kill Hitler" is a historical recreation of the 1944 attempt by several German High Command Officers to assassinate Adolf Hitler and take control of the German government. Lead by Wehrmacht Colonel Count von Staufenberg, this group of brave men managed to plant a bomb in Hitler's battlefield headquarters. By sheer luck, Hitler survived the blast and the SS quickly arrested and executed all those involved in the affair. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars TPK Hitler is an exciting and fairly accurate film
I very much enjoyed this film because the producers did their best to stay "true to history," rather than try to "hollywood," it. The saga of colonel Claus von Stauffenberg is a historical tale of bravery, personal risk and raises many interesting discussions on World War II. As an adjunct professor I have often shown this movie to my college students to get them to consider issues such as treason, following conscience vs following orders, and "what if" scenarios. After a read of William Shirer's Classic book entitled "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich," this movie is even more enjoyable. Of course, I wish the film makers went to two solid hours and provided even more facts, tidbits and information on the extensive German resistance movement. I highly recommend this movie as an excellent discussion vehicle and as an exciting story. It never ceases to amaze me how a bomb that explodes within six feet of Hitler failed to kill him and how Stauffenberg risked not only his life and career, but literally the lives of his whole family, associates and friends. This film presents another classic example of a "near miss," that most people wish had not. The acting is adequate and Madolyn Smith and Brad Davis do better here than when they did the Robert Kennedy film together (in my opinion). This is a great film to rent for a rainy weekend day that will certainly raise excellent family discussions. It is to be noted that had the revolt succeeded, the war would have ended nine months earlier and countless combat and concentration camp deaths might have been avoided. Every Year on July 20th, I make a point to mention this story to friends and usually try to watch the film again. It is important to reflect on events like this to remember those who have died in fighting tyranny.

4-0 out of 5 stars A true story from within the Reich
A true story about a group of disgruntled German officers and their plan to eliminate Hitler, and bring Germany back into an age of stability. Historians have known all along that throughout the existence of the Third Reich, that many soldiers within the Wermacht where regretting the rule of Hitler and his SS henchmen. The film follows an Army colonel through his career in Africa, to his orginazation of the group that was to kill Hitler. A great film for anyone who is interested in the history of what actually went on inside the government of the Third Reich, and the people fighting for their country.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great WWII caper film!
This is a great WWII film about the plot by high-ranking German officers to kill Adolf Hitler. This film brings history alive. Well filmed and directed. Unforunately, there are a few minor historical innaccuracies, but otherwise, a very good picture. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not that good
I bought this movie because it had Sela Ward in it;but that turns out to be not enough of a reason to get this. The story is just ok,and the acting isn't that great.Sela also doesn't appear as much in this movie as I thought she would.Check out 54 if you want to see some of Sela's best work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Which Double Jeopardy???
My review (very good) is the movie with Ward/Boxleitner. So don't add my vote to the more recent movie with a Judd starring. I did not see that one, and don't intend to.

3-0 out of 5 stars Double Jeopardy
Don't get confused people. I read the review for the 1992 version and it is the wrong one. This flick has the beautiful Rachel Ward in it, not Ashely Judd. Though she's pretty hot too. I'd hate to see somebody order the wrong movie by accident. Anyway be careful and take it light.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Outstanding"
This "Outstanding" movie deserved an Oscar in a "heartbeat". Not only was the subject matter gripping and leaving you on the "edge of your seat". The wonderfully talented and of course, beautiful Ashley Judd did a remarkable job in this movie. Her character was so "credible". The well-noted Tommy Lee Jones, as usual also did a wonderful job. These two fine actors, acted wonderfully together. I'd love to see them in another movie, hopefully soon. They did such an remarkable job in the movie that they deserved an Oscar. This is a "must see movie". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous story of behind scenes activities in the OJ trial
This is a tape of the made for television movie about the behind the scenes activities of the defense in the OJ Simpson trial. This movie spares no one and paints a very unfavorable view of all the lawyers. The movie is based on Robert Cardasians (sp?) book. No one at the end of the trial has any doubt that OJ is the murderer or a violent person as evidenced by Johnny Cochrans comment to one of his colleagues after OJ becomes enraged with him "I was just glad I didn't have long blond hair". The defense often views Judge Ito as a dunce, laughing after he becomes outraged with their antics. The most interesting thing is the lawyers at one point realize OJ is in many ways smarter and more talented than all his lawyers at formulating strategy and getting a team to work together. However, OJ is portrayed as a very violent and dispicable individual. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
I currently own the movie "Perfect murder,Perfect town" and I have to say one thing,I only seen it once or twice before buying the movie and it thaught the graphics and the 'emotion' behind the filming was absolutely extrordinarily perfect!Marg Helenberger (CSI:Crime scene Investigation) who plays Patsy Ramsey,Showed a lot of emotional and strong feelings that Patsy Ramsey herself had shown in real life.If you rent/buy this on DVD I reccomend after watching it,when planning watching it a second time, you should listen to the directors commentary. It explains how Helenberger had to understand her role as Patsy and had put herself in the position of a mother in real life who actually had to experience the lost a child. The director had interviewed the Boulder County police Department and the cops origionally at the scene of Jonbenet Ramsey's kidnapping and murder had shared the files taken, evidence at the Ramsey's home,Photographs taken of the home, and basically shared the actual experience of investagating the 6 year olds murder. They also had the experience of the media and paparazzi hounding the Ramsey's.The director also explains the movement of the case from Steve Thomas to Alex Hunter,Alex Hunter Sharing substantual evidence of the murder to the Jeff shapiro who was a reporter for the globe. It has Jonbenet played by Dianne Iandoli doing some Pageant scenes (but not many)Just news and one of her being coached. And the beginning of the fil which gives her some lines but leads straight into the kidnapping and murder of Jonbenet. And by the way,Dyanne's parents had spoken to a child phsycoligest before playing the role and made it clear to the director, who also agreed to this, that one,she would be called Dyanne off the set at all times and never Jonbenet,And two,she would not be allowed near the setting of the murder or take place in the murder or autopsy scenes for emotional perposes and so that she would not be emotionally affected by the part of Jonbenet Ramsey. The scenes that showed the autopsy and the body WAS a dummy and the Boulder PD actually at the crime scene said that the crime scene photos where much more gruesom than the ones shown in the movie. And please note that everything shown DID actually happen.Nothing was made up,or added for special affects. It showed the actual detctives on the scene (played by actors of course) Listed as followed: Detective Linda Ardnt,Tom Trujillo, Alex Hunter,Steve Thomas,Lou Smit,Sgt. Larry Mason,John Eller,Det. Byfeild,Office Bob Whiteson,Det. Everett,Det. Jane Fleming,Alan Peterson,Chris Wolfe,And all the other detectives, and officers on the case.I really I basically have to say,you should rent this movie,It is a really great one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Murder Perfect Town
This Is One Of The Best True crime videos ever it basically gives you the insight into the murder of JonBenet ramsey the most netorius Murder in history it stars Ronny Cox as John Ramsey Marg Helgenberger as Patsy Ramsey Kris Kristopherson as Lou Smit, The Video Shows How The Ramsey's were hounded by the press and how the were basically guilty according to the police, not only that it's shows how sloppy the ploice did on the case and the murder still remains unsolved, Diane Iandoli protrays JonBenet Ramsey It puts you in the drivers seat it acts like the real thing the action of Ronny cox and Marg Helgenberger are amazing they basically show you the real thing the movie is amazing. Not to mention what troubles me why would they put Steve thomas a narcotics cop on a murder investigation when he had no experience in this subject. Well to Close Perfect Murder Perfect Town And Is The Best Movie Get The DVD it's Cheaper and I Recommend this video over Murder in Greenwich anytime you'll love this movie gauranteed

5-0 out of 5 stars There Is No Word To Describe It.
Watching this movie last night, I was completely stund. Watching the way her dad found her dead in the basement and carrying her body up the stairs game me nightmares. This movie is one of the best movies I have ever seen but it has put such a big effect on me, I dont think I will ever watch it again. This movie shows the truth about what happened but does not tell the truth about who did it. No one will ever know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Presentation of an Unresolved Situation
This made-for-TV film was a strong presentation of the book, adhering closely to details presented therein. Its only let-down is driven by the real-life fact that the case was not solved, and such indefinite endings always leave the viewer feeling somewhat flat.

The undisputed stars of the show were Marg Helgenberger and Ronny Cox as Patsy and John Ramsey. Marg enjoyed what appeared to be a fabulous time chewing the scenery, dancing and playing with her daughter, and exhibiting a full range of theatrical emotion -- while simultaneously, Ronny did an absolutely stupendous job of being dazed and confused, an indecisive executive and wounded father. They were perfect, and I hope they had a great deal of fun making that film. The movie is worth watching just to watch them.

I first saw this film before reading the book, then again after doing so. The film is a very capable adaptation, much more than many others you'll see. Read the book, then watch it again.

And yes, I have an opinion as to who killed JonBenet. If the character's portral in the film was consonant with that person's actual behavior during these events, then I am pretty darned certain who it was. ... Read more

William Hurt did an excellent job portraying the spy Robert Hanssen. Hanssen was a complex character. On the one hand, he was a church going family man who regularly went to confession, on the other, he was perverted. He would videotape sex with his wife (although she wasn't aware of it) and show it to his best friend. He came across as a loyal employee, yet he was selling our nation's top secrets to the KGB. The research for this film was great, but I was disappointed with the DVD. The original TV movie fit into a four hour time slot, this DVD only lasts two hours. Director Lawrence Schiller felt that all those extra scenes slowed down the story, but I feel that they gave the public a better understanding of what Hanssen was really like.

If the character's portral in the film was consonant with that person's actual behavior during these events, then I am pretty darned certain who it was. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Where is the rest of the movie?
While the DVD does contain some deleted scenes, it does not contain all of them. I hope they consider releasing the entire TV movie on DVD in the future. ... Read more
