5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy's first TV episode - Hugely Enjoyable
My first time to see Nancy Drew (and more importantly, Pamela Sue Martin as Nancy Drew!) in about twenty years. And a real pleasure it was.
The story-line was, well, rather sweet and inoffensive (Nancy investigates - gasp - a haunted lighthouse) but since when has "sweet and inoffensive" been a crime? The performances were great (particularly Pamela Sue Martin, who makes a wonderfully assertive and confident heroine), the story held my interest more than I thought it would (particularly in the latter half when Nancy started to put things together and I found that I was being surprised by the well thought-out scripting) and the whole package was as entertaining as Rockford Files, or Harry O, or any other seventies 'tec show that we grew up with.
I would DEFINITELY recommend this to anyone who remembers the series with fondness, and would even feel confident that it would be good enough to entertain a friend who had never set eyes on the show before.

5-0 out of 5 stars A leader for modern independent women on tv.
LET ME START BY SAYING THAT THIS SHOW IS SOLID. The clothes are (hardly)not dated. It is still great to watch. I loved watching the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mystery hour. When I got this video I watched it not just once, but a few times. I loved taking a stroll back in time. I just want to know what happened to George's cousin, Nancy's other co-hort "in crime". I can't wait to get my next ND video.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Eerie thriller- fun for kids at Halloween
While out in a boat during a party, Nancy and friends spot a mysterious light coming from a supposedly abandoned lighthouse. The lighthouse is rumored to be haunted and Nancy, of course, has to investigate attracting the attention of a handsome "ghost-hunter" from California searching for lost pirate treasure. Another classic Nancy Drew and quite well made. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Captivating and Thrilling!
This movie was wonderful! I watched it several times during the weekend. Duncan Regehr is a great Zorro and the supporting actors play their parts well. Watch it. You'll love it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another great Zorro video!
This is the second Zorro episode from the 1990 series that I've seen (the first is "The Legend Begins". This is almost as good an episode as "The Legend Begins", thanks to the performances of the actors, especially James Horan as Gilberto Resendo and -- again -- Duncan Regehr as Diego/Zorro. Horan is an appropriately menacing villain with a psychological twist -- he is a villain because he was stolen from his true parents and twisted by the woman who stole him. This brings complexity to his role, and some sympathy -- but not much.

Regehr once again does wonders with Diego/Zorro. While there is less emphasis on the scientific aspects and on his sense of humor, there's plenty of action and a good scene of Diego dancing with Victoria. Also, his swordfighting scenes with Resendo are terrific!

Though there isn't as much humor surrounding Zorro this time, there are a couple of funny scenes involving Sergeant Mendoza. The first one is a scene where he has to go into a cave -- with a bear in it! The second one is where he is trying to bring a bucket of hay to a captured Toronado -- and the horse dumps the bucket on his head! Those are really funny scenes! James Victor does a good job of making him funny but likeable.

The only thing that keeps me from giving a higher mark is the fact that the video makes several errors in the chronology of the series. The most notable is the fact that the video says that the events of much of the story take place in 1824, but it had to have taken place before 1822, when California became part of Mexico! Still, that doesn't take away much from my enjoyment of this worthy Zorro story!

Belle Book

5-0 out of 5 stars Great pic for John Hertzler's fans
This video is full of slapstick hilarity that will keep you laughing from start to finish. John Hertzler makes it a great pic with terrific sword fighting a la Shakespear's finest.

3-0 out of 5 stars The concepts aren't very real-life, but Regehr does well.
The story was a bit off the wall and hard to believe, but otherwise a nice addition to a Duncan Regehr or Zorro Fan's collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Adventure without the hype. Great family fare.
An enjoyable pic; This video is well worth a view. High adventure with a low budget, this show displays some of my favorite actors. Perfect for all ages. A great addition to any Zorro fan's collection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lisa Eilbacher rules
The Hardy Boys-Nancy Drew, for people of my generation (25-30), is a sad nostalgia trip - sad because we were almost too young to remember the whole series in 1977-1979, and it ended so soon. It was well done - not necessarily the (dated) music permeating almost every episode, but the whole ambience of late '70's life. While Parker Stevenson fits the role of Frank Hardy well, and his acting is decent, I find Shaun Cassidy's less impressive (I realize many people buy these videos for Cassidy - if so, enjoy, he's here in abundance in every episode). The real unsung draw of several 1977 episodes, and especially this one, is Lisa Eilbacher as Callie Shaw - in my humble opinion the greatest of American actresses. This is early Eilbacher, and she easily out-acts everyone else. For a follow-up pairing Stevenson and Eilbacher, try to catch 1981's This House Possessed - almost a Hardy Boys movie, minus Cassidy.

3-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Hardy Boys episodes I've ever seen!
A good storyline which features alot of the characters from the storybook such as Chet Morton and Callie Shaw. Non-stop good action fun in this episode as they try to solve an unsolved mystery of creatures, screaming people and missing clues. Well acted for that era in the late 70's, but the new baby boomers will find it a drag since there's other shows now like the X-Files and so on. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WHICH ONE WAS IT?
I WAS A CHILD WHEN THIS TV SERIES WAS ON THE AIR ALSO. HOWEVER I RECALL AT LEAST TWO EPISODES WHICH HAD BOTH NANCY DREW AND THE HARDY BOYS BOTH IN THE PLOT AT THE SAME TIME?..CAN ANYONE HELP ME WITH THE TITLES AND ARE THEY FOR SALE?

3-0 out of 5 stars A good solid performance in it's time!
A nicely done show with Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson playing the trio of Joe and Frank Hardy searching for their kidnapped father in Mexico. Former "Dynasty" actress Kimberly Beck does fairly good in her guest starring role(She also dated Shaun Cassidy in real life). A great show for it's second season!A true mystery.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid episode. It can still hold it's own
I enjoyed watching this episode on tape. I watched it a few times,in fact. For me it doesn't seem completely outdated, unlike other tv series that suddenly become outdated as soon as 5 years later. When I can I want to order more Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Frank and Joe on Safari
Frank and Joe did a lot of traveling during the second season of The Hardy Boys, and this episode finds them in Kenya. Someone is poaching, and a local official (a member of the Masai tribe and one of the many old friends of Fenton Hardy who the boys run into during the series) is convinced the culprit is Trevor Masters, an old-style "white hunter" who now leads camera safaris. Frank and Joe join the safari and stay at Masters' house, where Frank romances Sarah Masters, played by Anne Lockhart. The clues accumulate slowly, and the boys are handicapped in their search by the long-held animosities and alliances among the local community. Not everyone is as they seem, and Frank and Joe must bring some personal mysteries to light before they can figure out who is slaughtering animals.

Shaun doesn't sing in this episode, but there is an interesting scene of him doing a drum dance with the male star of a group of native performers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best
This is not a bad episode, but as I said, not one of the more outstanding ones either. If falls sort of to the right of middle-of-the-road. It relies more on personal conflict and tension rather than fast-paced action for interest, so those of you hoping for gleaming knives and ruthless killers, this is not your best choice. Some of its more outstanding qualities are witty dialogue, and of course the inevitable romantic interest, which was better done in this one than in some others I've seen. And yes, there is a scene in which the boys get shot at. Overall, this show lacks a little spice, but if you're the kind who likes it mild go for it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy Drew Should Be on DVD!
Nancy Drew was one of my favorite TV shows in the 70's, based on the mystery books for young readers by Carolyn Keene it is about a teenager named Nancy Drew who has a knack for solving mysteries and crimes and stars Pamela Sue Martin (Dynasty) as Nancy. The Secret of the Whispering Walls is my favorite episode and is about Nancy's two elderly aunts who live in an old mansion where some strange events are happening and Nancy with the help of her friends Ned and George investigates. I would love to see this and all of the Nancy Drew episodes put out on DVD especially in a boxset!

4-0 out of 5 stars Groovy Nancy
In 1977, Nancy Drew donned her double-knit pantsuit and set out with her friends George Fayne and Ned Nickerson to solve her very first mystery on television. Millions of girls sat spell-bound in front of their television sets, anxiously waiting to see if Nancy could solve the puzzling incidents in her hometown, River Heights USA.
The Nancy Drew Mysteries television show of the 1970s was saturated in cultural influences. Nancy danced to disco, drove a groovy blue sports car and even teamed up with the Hardy Boys (wearing their leisure suits) to bust crime the 70s way.
Her glamourous adventures included posing as a world-famous professional tennis player, solving mysteries aboard cruise ships and overthrowing counterfeit gangs.
What adventure! What romance! What intrigue!
In this episode, Nancy stays at an old southern mansion complete with hidden passages, cranky neighbors and voices in the walls.
"Secret of the Whispering Walls" is extrememly reminiscent of The Secret of Red Gate Farm, one of the original Nancy Drew Mystery Stories. You might even call it a combination of Red Gate Farm and The Hidden Staircase.
George is a little out of character; she's too much of a fraidy-cat when it comes to investigating.
Despite it's shortcomings, this episode is one of my favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars FOR HUGE DREW/HARDYS FANS, BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been obsessively collecting Hardy Boys books since Day 1 and I like N. Drew, too. This is a great one and any Hardys/Drew fan will love it! One would think this is corny, but it really is well done and not the least bit corny.

3-0 out of 5 stars Classic Nancy Drew mystery

5-0 out of 5 stars Duncan is AMAZING
I watched every single episode of The New Adventures of Zorro as a kid. I have them all taped except for about 20 episodes. And let me tell you, when I start watching them I cannot stop! Duncan Regehr is such a talented actor who puts so much into his roles. Yes, I was about 11 years old and I fell in love with the guy! The romance between Zorro and Victoria was so beautiful. The show had it all....and my favorite episode, "An Affair to Remember." I'll always be a Zorro fan!

5-0 out of 5 stars zorro the legend begins
this is an extremlly good video for family viewing, it shows how
the spanish people survived before the twentieth century during the old west up until present day, the video is full of enteranment i would remmomend thiss video to any one.

1-0 out of 5 stars If Zorro is a Fox he's road kill
I love Zorro. The Z and all that! But this movie was not worthy of to 'wear the mask'.
What little story line it had didn't make sense. But that's not really that important for a Zorro is it?! It's the fun and the sword play. (That's important)
They didn't have any fun or sword play either.
Duncan Regehr might be able to act (I didn't see any proof of that on this movie) I'll give him the benefit of the doubt though; but he cannot fence! I am myself a fencer and sword fighter-whatever you want to call it. I've fought with Broad Swords, Rapiers, Short Swords, Knives, and even spears, and a whole bunch more medieval weaponry. I can tell you right now! Duncan Regehr can't sword fight. When I watch a Zorro I want to see somebody who might be able to beat me. The Sword fighting was pathetic. It makes me want to take on the whole Mexican army with my right hand tied behind my back!

4-0 out of 5 stars ...A hero who's name is Zorro...
Duncan Regehr was the star of the immensly popular television series "Zorro." Produced by New World Television, the series lasted from 1989 to 1992, with 89 episodes and four seasons. This film takes the first episodes and tells just how Don Diego de la Vega (Regehr) became Zorro.
Diego is sent to Madrid to study science and swordsmanship by his father Don Alejandro (Efrem Zimbalist Jr., later to be replaced by Henry Darrow). Diego returnes to find Los Angeles in the clutches of the evil alcalde Luis Ramone (Michael Tylo). Alejandro and Diego's love interest Victoria (Patrice Martinez) object to the alcalde's rule. at first, so does Diego. But he soon disguises as the fox Zorro. Only his mute friend and servant Felipe (Juan Diego Botto) knows of this. Zorro foils the plans of the alcalde and his sargent Mendoza (James Victor). When thought to be dead, Zorro/Diego and Felipe know how to foil the alcalde and startle everyone. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I spell fun H-A-R-D-Y B-O-Y-S
I am giving this review four stars because my only caveat is that you never get to hear a full Shaun Cassidy song. You hear enough to tease you into buying whatever album of his was hot in the seventies, but not the whole thing. This show is as much fun as Scooby Doo (and that's a compliment). Both Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy displayed a laid back, easy pairing that transcended the not-so-challenging scripts. They are just fun to watch, and when you get to hear some of that great bubble gum pop Shaun sang so well, you have a show that shines as bright as that lava lamp collecting dust in your attic. Do I like this show? I da doo run run.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Trip Down Memory Lane!
I enjoyed being able to see Shaun Cassidy sing again. It brought back precious memories. The Hardy Boys was my favorite show as a child. It's sometimes hard to believe that over 20 years have passed since that time. If you like Shaun's singing, this is the video for you! It has different songs, including Da Doo Ron Ron, That's Rock 'N Roll, and Holiday (which I had forgotten about and hadn't heard since I was a child). It's a great video for Cassidy fans everywhere!

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for Shaun Cassidy fans!
If you've seen the 70's series, you know that they all look pretty cheesy in the light of a 90's day. But if you love cheese, and you love Shaun Cassidy, this one is a must-have, because it's one of the handful of episodes in which Shaun sings! This one features "Da Doo Ron Ron", "That's Rock and Roll", as well as chunks of "Holiday" and "Wanna Be With You". I take off one star just because of the over-all cheese factor. Otherwise, it's a keeper! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars hardy boys in egypt
although shaun does not sing in this video, it is still pretty good. you find yourself saying to yourself don't do that guys! it really draws you in.

5-0 out of 5 stars King Tut's Tomb - Frank and Joe in Egypt
When Frank succeeds in recapturing a purse snatched in an Egyptian bazaar, he is mystified when the owner, a lovely American girl, refuses to take it back. Instead, she pushes the key to her hotel room into his hands and asks him to meet her there later. When he and Joe open the purse they find what appears to be a priceless artifact, which has almost certainly been stolen. That evening at the hotel, they don't find the purse's owner, they find the street urchin who'd stolen the purse (who escapes again), and then the police - who confiscate their passports.

This is a great mystery, and contains some highly unusual moments for the Hardy Boys. Frank and Joe don't usually deliberately intimidate pretty girls in their hotel rooms. Would Frank *really* bash all Helene's teeth out? Is Joe's inspired rant about how much he hates Texas just an act? And Parker sings!

This is also the episode in which the boys compare themselves to Redford and Newman in "The Sting" - which is an amusing sequence.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Hardy Boys in Egypt...What could be better?
As a "Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" fan, I found this video to be a real treat! It features the Hardy Boys in an exotic, mystery filled location and throws in some 1970's disco to boot! I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the original intro to the program followed by the announcement "Tonight on the Hardy Boys.." This video is great for those who love 1970's nostalgia. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
I have 4 Nancy Drew movies. I think this was like 3rd or 4th one I watched and It's one of my favs. It has a great plot. You'd never guess who the culprit was. I thought it was someone else. I was wrong. Great twist at the end!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better Nancy Drew episodes
It's too bad there aren't more of these. You have to like the title, as the Nancy Drew book series has always been written by a succession of ghostwriters. Pamela Sue Martin is great as Nancy: she does a good job of being inquisitive and persistent without being irritating, and she handles annoying characters with finesse. When the mystery author she is accompanying on a cruise gets cryptic death threats, nothing can be proven so of course it's up to Nancy to solve the case. They do a nice job of making it spooky, like when Nancy and the author are walking the deck at night through fog, searching for the source of an eerie, echoing voice. At another point, the ship is threatened by a tidal wave. With Pamela having done "Poseidon Adventure," the director must have had to resist an impulse to have her look at the camera and say, "Not again." I also like how they keep you guessing who the culprit is from among their shipmates, unlike some other episodes where the audience knows what's going on before Nancy figures it out. It's fun to relive the days when, for a very short time, creepy-but-innocent entertainment featured not an older gal like Angela Lansbury, but a beautiful young woman.

Someone wants Mr. Addams to live at his first novel and rewrite the ending so there is no sequel.I alwayed enjoyed reading the Nancy Drew books and the television series was able to bring life to this exciting and intelligent detevice character. Pamela Sue Martin is great in the role and the supporting cast are also wondeful. Buy this tape and you will not regrat it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Spooky
"It was very spooky and there was scary laughter on a tape recorder and threats too. Nancy Drew was going to put on a light and she got shocked." So says my five-year-old son who is fascinated by these out-of-date, hoaky t.v. show videos. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for Rick Nelson Fans! Great concert footage!
This video is rated 5 stars not just for the show itself, which isn't bad, but for the fact that Rick Nelson sings about 8 songs in it. Real concert footage of Rick before a real crowd is used. Unlike his contemporary Elvis Presley, it is hard to find concert footage of Rick Nelson. In this show Rick plays rocker Tony Eagle. The Hardy Boys foil a plot against his life. Ironically the villan tries to cause Tony Eagle's plane to crash. The Hardy Boys prevent Tony's plane from taking off. Would that someone could have done the same in real life. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Re-issue on DVD, but with better cover art
I remember seeing this almost forgotten made-for-TV movie when I was in high school, so it's a nostalgia thing if nothing else. But while average I still enjoyed it as an A-Team type action film.In addition to a DVD re-issue the cover art needs to be redone, desperatly!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
I have most of the Nancy Drew videos and I think this one is my favorite! When the hosts of a benefit carnival are robbed of their jewels, Nancy sets out to try to get a job at the carnival to find out if any of the carnival workers are the thieves. As usual, she soon finds herself in danger. To complete your Nancy Drew video collection, this one is a must have!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Movie!

5-0 out of 5 stars 'IT'S THE OLD CHINESE SQUEEZE_DAD."
This episode of "The Hardy Boys and the Nancy Drew Mysteries" is
infact very good. I have seen it about thirty times. It involves the smuggling of precious art objects and contraband. Fences that reside located in Hong Kong. Although_ none of the episode is infact filmed in Hong Kong. It takes the Chi8nese influence though to San Fransisco's China Town, where most of this episode is filmed. The plot is affectionately centered around an ancient taiwanese diety called the "jade quan yin" which is a small statue. Frank and Joe Hardy stumble across it while out scuba diving, but soon realise after some forensic analysis, that it has attracted some higher importance to certain members of the chinese community. A few great chase scenes and some pretty cool handed dirty tricks. It's alot of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Jade Kwan Yin - A Classic Hardy Boys Episode
Frank and Joe are scuba diving when they are hit by a small crate that's been thrown off a boat. Attempts to return the contents - a statue of the goddess Kwan Yin - to its rightful owner turn out to be more complicated than they expect.

This has several classic Hardy Boys elements: wrecked rooms, Frank and Joe getting chewed out by local law enforcement, and the "after all - you're the oldest" line that ran through much of the tv series. It also has one of the best portrayals of the relationship between the brothers: a mixture of teasing and absolute loyalty - and the onscreen chemistry between Shaun and Parker - which was one of several reasons the show was so popular.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent episode; lots of Lisa Eilbacher
The Jade Kwan Yin mystery is pretty standard, classic Hardy Boys. Not as good as Witches Hollow, but better than many others. Good acting by the guest stars (again, better than usual) and a fair number of scenes with the divine Lisa Eilbacher...the only unbelievable part is the ending, where the jade figurine allegedly has been holding gems - curiously, the gems have made no noise during all the handling of the statuette. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries belong on DVD!
Here is another intelligent show that brings back a ton of fond memories! This episode, "Wipe Out", and ALL the other episodes of the "Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" starring Shaun Cassidy, Parker Stevenson, and Pamela Sue Martin/Janet Johnson, belong on DVD! Shaun and Parker as Joe and Frank Hardy brought humor and warmth to their brotherly roles; and the intrepid Nancy Drew was fiercely independent and a perfect role model for young women. Of course this version of the "Hardy Boys" was enhanced by Shaun's singing - and "Wipe Out" featured him singing not his own tunes but the music of "The Beach Boys". This series also featured a memorable ensemble of guest stars including the late Rick Nelson ("The Flickering Torch Mystery" with great concert footage), Lorne Green, Patrick MacNee, Melanie Griffith, Paul Williams, Ray Milland, Valerie Bertinelli, Maren Jensen, Anne Lockhart, and a host of others. And let's not forget Edmund Gilbert who, in my mind, will always be "Fenton Hardy". Today's young tv viewers (and the rest of us, too!) need to get re-acquainted with Nancy, Frank, and Joe! Let's see this complete series on DVD SOON!

4-0 out of 5 stars This Show Should Have Complete Season DVD Boxsets!
The Hardy Boys was one of my favorite TV shows in the 70's and as a young girl ages 12 to 14 I had a big crush on Shaun Cassidy, I had his record albums, posters a T-shirt, etc. The Hardy Boys TV show is based on the young readers Mystery books by Franklin W. Dixon and stars Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson as brothers Joe and Frank Hardy who solve mysteries and crimes and was a very entertaining show. I would like to see this episode and all of the rest on DVD in complete season DVD boxsets!

4-0 out of 5 stars Hardy Boys in WIPE OUT
I was one of those girls who just LOVED Shaun Cassidy, I even had a Hardy Boys t-shirt in grade 3. Now after years of waiting to see these shows again, I was suprised that besides having cute guys, the show did have a good story line. And yes Shaun does sing, although I thought he sounded better when I was 7. Anyway this is a good one, It will bring back some of those childhood warm fuzzy feelings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dreamboat Shaun Cassidy shines in beach caper!
This is one of the coolest Hardy Boys episodes because Shaun SINGS! He performs "Surfin' U.S.A." on the beach for Frank & their Hawaii pals on location. A must-have for any Shaun Cassidy fan. No love scenes, though - darn! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This one shines!
A crumbling old theatre is the dramatic stage for this fabulous mystery. Ned Nickerson's small-town charitable stage production suddenly becomes a major event when five internationally famous actors volunteer to act in it. But when mysterious and deadly accidents begin to plague the rapidly growing production, Nancy begins to suspect that not everything is as it seems ... or should be ...

A wonderful, rapidly-paced episode. Leaving you with new questions at every turn, it scintillates with ingenious characterization, plot development, and phantoms that are more than what they seem. A killer! ... Read more
