The classic Mark Twainbook The Adventures of Tom Sawyer ispresented here as an animated video featuring the voices and music ofcountry music stars Mark Wills, Lee Ann Womack, Rhett Akins, and HankWilliams Jr.Other famous voices include Betty White and Don Knotts.Twain'sgeneral plot is reproducedfairly faithfully: Tom falls in love with Becky, Tom and Huckleberry Finnwitness a murder and later risk their lives to save thefalsely accused Potter, and Tom and Huck eventually find Red Beard'sburied treasure.Subtle elements have been changed for either politicalcorrectness or plot convenience: for instance, the name "Injun Joe"has been changed to "Injurin' Joe" and Becky has gained an antagonist father.A not so subtle change is thepresentation of the characters as animals: Tom and Becky are cats, Huck isa fox, and Joe is a bear. The video is skillfully animated (much more so than the cover suggests) andthe voice talent is excellent. Pop-country music lovers will love featured songs such as "You Can't Keep a Country Boy Down" and "There's a Light atthe End of the Tunnel," although they seem more appropriate for adultaudiences than the 5- to 12-year-olds this video is aimed at.All inall, this is an entertaining, accessible presentation of a classic storythat kids will enjoy. --Tami Horiuchi ... 4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent animated version of an American Classic.
The animation itself is very well done, being on a par with1993's "Once Upon a Forest", and nicely conveys the variousmoods and emotions of the plot and characters. About the only real problem I noticed throughout was a slight continuity problem: sometimes Tom is barefoot in scenes where, a second before, he'd been wearing shoes. But this is just a minor thing.

While I'm not a "Pop-Country" fan, the music in this effort is, if not show-stopping, then at least pleasant to the ear without detracting from the plot and children will probably like some of the bouncier rhythms.

As a previous reviewer notes, the plot mostly follows the book with; as noted; certain concessions made to political correctness. But this does not detract from any of the characterizations or the "romance" of Tom's puppy-love-at-first-sight attraction to Becky Thatcher (and Amy Lawrence's transition from "woman-scorned" anger to resigned semi-acceptance of it is tastefully handled too) and the drama of Deputy Bean's murder by Injurin' Joe and his pursuit of Tom and Becky through Deadman's Cave.

So if you're a parent looking for a Video that both you and the kids might enjoy watching on a rainy afternoon, this is one that I can definitely recommend. (And if it gets the viewer [especially kids] interested in reading Twain's American Classics "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" too [as it did me!], then chalk that up as an added bonus!)

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME ANIMATED MOVIE!
As a huge fan of American animation, I give this Disney-esque version of TOM SAWYER an "A." The backgrounds in the film are so beautiful & the characters are well drawn, too; reminded me "so" much of Disney's older films (Robin Hood, Fox & the Hound, Jungle Book, etc).

The music is awesome; the songs are very well written and a pure joy to listen to!

I still love cartoons & animation. And this version of TOM SAWYER is an awesome film that both children & adults can enjoy together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tom Sawyer is Great!
This movie is wonderful! I cannot believe that you can buy it new for as little as $4! It is full of great music, action packed animation and it just totally rocks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining!
I bought this for my nephews and niece (3, 8 & 11) last Christmas. I don't care to review the animation, direction, voices or anything technical...this is just great entertainment for kids! My 3 year old nephew calls it "his movie" and we watch it 2-3 times a day. He knows the dialog, the songs and the sound effects, he LOVES IT and that is what counts!

3-0 out of 5 stars Worth a look
Not an animated classic but a cut above a lot of the stuff that's out there. Nice animation and at least one good song (One Dream). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great for a 3 year old!

Another straight-to-video sequel of a so-so animated film. The original 1989 All Dogs Go to Heaven was hardly inspired but contained expert Don Bluth animation and the amusing voices of Burt Reynolds and his gang. Now Steven Weber voices the animated mutt Charlie who is still palling around with the same gang through three movies and an animated series. Here the arch villain, Carface (Ernest Borgnine), gets the traditional Dickens treatment of being visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve. The opening number, "When I Hear a Christmas Carol," is a good start, but soon TV-ish animation and the low humor wears one down. Kids who like the earlier Dog efforts won't be disappointed, but the entire series can never be defined as great entertainment. The saving grace is the foolproof Christmas Carol visitations. --Doug Thomas ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The worst in the series
This is a cheesy vcerson of the Christmas carol. It messed up the story line from the past to. Characters are alive that are supposed to be dead. Carface is supposed to be in Hell he got pulled down into it at the end of the second one.

If you are 5 or older. The good thing about it is a lot more approapriate than the original and is rated corrected. I think the first one should have ben PG13 and the second should of been PG. Unfortunatley back then the did not have any pg13 rated cartoons until Beehives in Butt do America can out.

It would have be better Ive they had put the king gator in it. Belonda is okey she is evil and wicked. But I've seen betetr. If I had a top hundred villians list see would be the 11th on the list.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing,Outstanding, great for chrismast!
I was watching t.v and this movie popped out on screen! It was kind of weird in the beginning but I liked the middle, end and some of the beginning.I liked the Chrismast carol part the most! It was a great movie of Chrismast stuff. I didn't know this was based on a series and movies. I liked it thought, but it was cccooolll!!!! like anything cool! It wasn't bad,not bad at all,but check the movie out,you may give this movie atleast a 3 to 5.I gave it a 4 for the neatness in this movie. Why did I give this movie a 4?,you say. Some was bad and most was terrificly
COOL!!-THE END

5-0 out of 5 stars I love The Movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The movie is a very good christmas movie,
and deserves a 5. I wish they made more movies like this.
The movie is about carface a greety dog who steels this little puppy's money for his broken leg. Then Charlie, itchy, and sasha
make a plan to show carface what will happen to him in the past and in the future. It's a christmas carol movie, in a dog version. See the movie. It's very entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good holiday movie.
This is a great Christmas movie for collections, with terrific music. All the characters have defined roles from the original. There's even a puppy named Tim who desperately needs an operation. Itchy is the ghost of Christmas past. Charlie is the ghost of Christmas future. Sasha is the ghost of Christmas present. Carface plays Scrooge. Killer takes on the role of Bob Cratchit. The only one who doesn't really match up is Belladonna, Annabelle's cousin and the Whippet from Hell, who is Carface's boss...but that makes it a little more original, since they don't go exactly by the book. Recommended.

While it pales in comparison to the outstanding animation of its predecessor, Don Bluth's imaginative if somewhat graceless All Dogs Go to Heaven, this 1995 sequel has some nice moments of its own. Charlie Sheen replaces Burt Reynolds as the voice of Charlie Barkin, the afterlife-stranded pooch who sought vengeance against his killer in the previous film but instead discovered the joys of earthly love and community. This time, a bored Charlie, looking for a little adventure, reteams with his old pal Itchy (voiced by Dom DeLuise) to retrieve Gabriel's Horn after it's stolen. Dropping down from Dog Heaven to take on his old nemesis (and killer), Carface (Ernest Borgnine), Charlie falls for a sexy Irish setter (Sheena Easton) and helps a boy caught in a jam. Featuring grand pop songs by the legendary songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 provides kids with a simpler story than Bluth's original film, as well as less unsettling violence. On the downside, director Paul Sabella, a Hanna-Barbera veteran who produced television's The Smurfs, either can't or won't stretch much as an artist here. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT a worth-while Sequel
I loved the first ADGTH. It was excellent, from my stand-point. Above most average cartoons. But ADGTH2 ? No. I liked it when I first saw it (Come one..I was like...5) but re-watching it now, I see how bad it is. The plot is non-exgsistant and TOTALY doesn't make sense with the first one. Sasha (lead female) is not a bad character, but David is whiny and annoying. Annabelle is totaly changed - and her voice is WAY different. Charlie is not the same lovable rascal he was in the first movie. He's lost a sensee of real street-smarts that were so visible in the first one. You don't really conect with the characters in the movie, because you dont see them develop. Charlie doesn't change any, nor do Sasha or Itchy. David changes a little, but not enough to tug the heartstrings of the viewers. Its not a very emotional movie (Okay...1 song is), unlike the original. I just can't really get to like this movie. The three stars are for those who havent seen the original. If you haven't, and can't compare it, than it stands a fair chance. I'm not saying your going to hate it. I'm saying /I/ didn't like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 was just as good as the original
I liked the first All Dogs Go to Heaven movie, but the sequel was even better! Go Don Bluth! The characters, both old and new, were wonderful and the music was fantastic. I grew up watching both movies constantly and it is truly a beautiful work of art.

4-0 out of 5 stars Okey sequel
It has been many years since I last saw this. It is not as imapropriate as the first one was. I recomend this two kidges 8 and up. Has some scary intense moment in it but not as bad as the first one was. If you are very religious person you do not want to watch this film because it makes fun of the Christian religion.

The evil scareface returns. Thank the lord the kept the King Gator out of the sequel instead they replaced him with and evil cat who scarred the crap out of me. I was abut maybe 12 the last time I saw this. It was on Disney channel on day a couple of years ago. But it was on a school day so I could not watch it.

I highly recommend you don't see An All dogs Christmas Carol because it is the worst of them. It is to mushy and has very few intese party in it. That plush Bladona Anabels evil sister is theevilist but Dubiest Villian I would rather she Charles Lee Ray, Leprechuan and Wishmaster.

2-0 out of 5 stars This should never have happened...
I dunno. This movie made me think of something George Carlin said: "Wherever ideas are concerned, Americans can be counted on to do one of two things: Take a really good idea and run it completely into the ground, or take a really bad idea and run it completely into the ground."

Part of the appeal of the first movie was the dark theme, the lovable characters, and the bittersweet story. In other words, it was the kind of movie that, when you were done watching it, you didn't know how to feel about the ending. Mixed emotions.

Remember reading "Where the Red Fern Grows," and feeling that same way at the end? Part of the reason that book was so good is because it makes you feel that way.

I believe the people who wrote this sequel wanted to do two things: They wanted to make a quick buck, sure... but not only that, they wanted to continue the story with a script designed to negate those mixed emotions the first movie produced. They were soft and weak, and couldn't stomach a movie that didn't have a clear-cut happy ending. So they produced something inferior that completely destroyed the magic of the original story, all in an effort to set things straight.

I gave it two stars for it's good-hearted (yet lame) attempt to reach out to the children of divorced parents, but as far as I'm concerned, this sequel never happened.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dogs have 2 lifes...
What would we do without sequels? There are good sequels (3/10) and then there are bad sequels (7/10). So does All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 deserve a growl or a happy bark? Hmm...

The film itself gives the viewer nice looking animation, songs and introduces new characters. Okay so that's fine. The animation however is not as catchy (or dark) as it was in All Dogs Go To Heaven 1 and therefore the characters look a bit different. The first film had songs integrated in it and so does this one. Although in the original film had doggies singing the songs too I find the singing dogs in All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 to be a little corny. The songs are nice however. New characters are fine too and Charlie Sheen's voice fits Charlie okay.

Since I love the first film I also like this one very much. If you liked the first film then go ahead and get this one. All Dogs deserve a second chance you know =) ... Read more
