2-0 out of 5 stars More Than A Few Holes
Lana Turner stars as a woman who marries above herself into a powerful family, earning the dislike of her mother-in-law. When she becomes involved with a notorious playboy who dies accidentally, her mother-in-law uses it as an excuse to get rid of her, forcing her to leave the family and her child, assuming a different identity. Her life spirals downward out of control, until she ends up in jail, charged with murder and being defended by her now grown-up son. There are a lot of holes in this story which relies far too much on coincidence and the stupidity of its characters to advance the plot. Turner is the standout of the film, shedding her typical glamour as the character falls apart. She makes the most out of the role as its written. The supporting cast are given two-dimensional characters to impersonate. John Forsythe barely registers a performance, while the great Constance Bennett barks out her nasty character. The music telegraphs all the emotions at the start of every scene. I'm not a fan of soap opera, but I can watch it if it's handled with a subtle touch. Subtle wouldn't be the word for this movie. Think "heavy-handed and plastic".

5-0 out of 5 stars Triumph to Tragedy
There has never been, and will never be, a film that better depicts life's happiest and saddest events. The movie opens with ex-salesgirl, newlywed Holly Anderson (Lana Turner) being welcome to the Anderson mansion and meeting her live-in mother-in-law. Her husband, Clay Anderson (John Forsythe), is a rich, politician-on-the-rise. They live the life of the socially prominent, always mindful of their public images. Soon, an heir is born and Holly is a perfect mother. But to be successful, Clay must, and does, travel extensively. Lonely and bored, Holly succumbs to friends' urgings and fullfills her social obligations on the arm of a single, male friend. This causes a series of tragedies, culminating in a surprise twist, and an ending that only a rock could get through without crying. In her role as Holly Anderson, Lana Turner exposes the depths of a woman's soul and the expesses the breadth of a woman's love. If I could, I would give this movie ten stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars soapy but riveting
Lana Turner is terrific as the pawn of destiny in this elaborate soap opera; it's a plot that could fill five seasons of daytime drama, all wrapped up in one improbable but incredibly entertaining film. It isn't Shakespeare, but for suds, it's tops.
Turner plays Holly Parker, the "little shop girl from San Francisco" who marries a man of immense wealth and ambition, and as a package deal, along with the mansion in Connecticut comes his implacable mother, who has plans for sonny boy, and tells Holly she should have "stayed on the other side of the counter".

John Forsythe plays Holly's husband Clay Anderson with charm and elegance, and Keir Dullea is their grown son. Ricardo Montalban (who starred with Turner 13 years earlier in the charming comedy "Latin Lovers") is the man who tries to seduce her, and Estelle, the scheming mother, is played to the hilt by Constance Bennett, in what was to be her last film.
Burgess Meredith does a marvelous turn as a slimy character Holly meets in a Mexican motel, and the way the rooms are decorated in these scenes is priceless; kudos also go to the make-up department in this section of the film, and Ms. Turner's ability to transform herself. This film proves that she was exceedingly underrated as an actress.

Well paced direction by David Lowell Rich, a lovely score by Frank Skinner, and lavish gowns by Jean Louis make this a memorable melodrama, and save your biggest hanky for the end, which though contrived, is still good for many heartfelt sobs. Total running time is 100 minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the best movies of all times
How this video has not made it to DVD is a mystery to me. Lana Turner shines like she never has before in this depiction of Holly Anderson.

I really hope that the movie distributers will look at this and put it on DVD ; as I know it will sell like hotcakes. I mean look at the VHS price 29.90 and up.!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Classy entertainment
Excellent drama which should have resulted in Turner winning an Oscar, shame though she didn't. There have been many so called attempts in the last 30 years to make romantic dramas popular again, granted there has been a a few but this version of Madame X is a bone fide tearjerker and first class movie. The VHS copy is very good, and hopefully it will soon get a much deserved DVD release ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Comedy and the Concorde
This has got to be the funniest of the Airport series. The only cast member remaining on board was Geroge Kennedy, and personally I think he should have bowed out of it. I brought to an end a long running movie series from Producer Jennings Lang, an excellent disaster film producer, but I can understand why he left after this one. The effects are cheezy even for that time, as the F-4 Phantom II and the cruise(!) missile look like someting out of a 1950's serial.(How can a Cruise Missile attack an AIRCRAFT?????) Not to mention the barrier net sequence with the Concorde, looking for all like the glorified model it was, making you laugh out loud even in the theater during it's theatrical run! None of the cast members, sans Kennedy really seemed to take the film seriously, and it showed. I mean even TV shows at the time had much better effects and writing!

Now with the crash and sorrowful deaths of 113 souls in the Paris crash of the Concorde, I just bet the Hollywood Disaster Machine jumps back on board, call Mr. Lang and regurgitates this series, possibly with Bruce Willis or Keanu Reeves, in place of Kennedy.

And can anyone explain why this is the only one not avalible on DVD??????

1-0 out of 5 stars everyone got it wrong... not the Airport series.
this show has nothing to do with the Airport series.
everyone is wrong.
this is just a 60 min. show about the first men to fly the Concorde.

2-0 out of 5 stars The plane starts to fall apart, and so does the movie
For the first 20 minutes of this endless film, I thought this would be a good movie. Then the problems started. Basically, the plot revolves around a female reporter who stumbles upon some illegal arms selling done by an American company to terrorists. Documents in hand implicating the wrongdoers, she hops aboard the Concorde on its flight to Paris and then to Moscow for the 1980 Olympics (which the Americans boycotted, but oh well).

One problem with this is the "Love Boat" casting for the plane. There's Jimmie Walker! He gets high in the bathroom! There's Charo, on screen for 1 minute! There's Emanuelle from those soft-core porno films! There's Martha Raye! There's Cicely Tyson! Her son needs a heart transplant, and she's taking the Concorde, along with the heart, to deliver it to him. Shades of Airport 1975 much (with the kidney transplant)? There's an old lady who has to go to the bathroom when she gets nervous! Isn't that funny? There's Patroni (George Kennedy) who has appeared in every Airport film. He's the pilot of this one, along with Alain Delon. "You pilots are such men!" snips the stewardess. "Honey, that's why they call it the cockpit!" Patroni zings. Score one for the male chauvinists!

There's also a missile or something that's trying to shoot down the Concorde, but the Concorde evades it and lands in Paris but the movie STILL ISN'T OVER. There's another hour and another flight and another dangerous crash landing to get to. The movie doesn't know what it wants to be - glossy international drama? Comedy? Disaster film? It turns into an unintentional comedy, especially with the incredibly fake scenes of a toy model of an airplane flying against a blue screened in shot of a sky.

High camp comedy? Yes! Exciting film? No. I suggest watching this with a bunch of friends and proving your own running commentary over it trashing the film.

1-0 out of 5 stars VERY BORING!!!
All I can say is that this is probably the worst disaster film of all time, what got me confused and annoyed at the same time was silly additonal chatacters such as the jive ass with the saxophone,"We're Triplets," and the woman with the small bladder, "The Bathroom's Broken." And of course, Charo, "My hands Cold." Even George Kennedy's acting was off, but none of his bad acting in other films will be as bad as his acting in Airport 75! I think the Airport series should have stopped with Airport 77, I feel so bad now for even watching this film once, I definetly think this is a disaster movie gone wrong!

1-0 out of 5 stars The plane that carried the Pope and crashed outside Paris
The "white tail" Concorde that was loaned to the film company for the making of this motion picture, was later used to ferry the Pope around on one of of his tours. Sadly, it was also the aircraft that crashed on take off from CDG in 2000 with a full passenger load of German holiday makers.

The plane had been in storage for a number of years prior to 2000. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly good horror film with two of Charlie's Angels
Satan's School For Girls. The title alone conjures up all types of lurid, imaginative ideas, doesn't it? Personally, I had images of leather and whips running amuck in my brain. Okay, so it has Kate Jackson (Charlie's "intelligent" Angel) in it, but that doesn't necessarily mean that some young lady won't at least sport a tight leather outfit. Of course, all of my hopes were quickly dashed when I saw the distinctly 70's television-ish credits appear; then the name of Aaron Spelling came up, and I knew my fantasies would not be realized. As it turns out, though, this is not a problem. The movie begins with an obviously terrified young lady driving erratically and very quickly down a deserted road, seemingly trying to escape from someone or something behind her. She manages to make it to the home of her sister, but just when she thinks she is finally safe something scares her so badly her screaming mechanism overheats. When sis gets home, she finds cops outside and a dead, hanged sister inside. Liz (Pamela Frank) refuses to accept the obvious conclusion of suicide and decides to enroll herself at her sister's school, the Salem Academy For Women, and conduct an investigation of her own. At this point, I was a little worried because this movie was giving every indication of being pretty bad. Once we arrive at the creepy school run by a headmistress everyone calls "the dragon lady," though, the story quickly begins to build momentum. Liz buddies up with Roberta (Kate Jackson), Debbie (Jamie Jackson), and Jody (Cheryl Stoppelmoor). Who is Cheryl Stoppelmoor, you might ask? Well, you probably know her better as Cheryl Ladd. Yes, there are two of Charlie's Angels in this movie, and that can never be a bad thing. Anyway, Liz meets up with two teachers, one of whom seems evil and twisted from the very start. Once the report of another former student's suicide hits campus, Liz is ready to begin seriously snooping around. When she explores the basement of her dorm, she finds much more than she bargained for (ergo, the Satan reference in the title).

To my surprise, this psychological horror tale of manipulation and evil is actually quite good. The plot is nowhere near as simple as you might think early on, and the whole atmosphere of the school is deliciously creepy. There is even one moment capable of producing a little jump in those lucky enough to not already be inured to such tangible effects of horror movies. The future Cheryl Ladd doesn't get nearly enough screen time, but Kate Jackson plays her part exceedingly well. The ending is something of a disappointment, I must admit, but the drama leading up to it is more than satisfying enough to leave me with a pretty high opinion of this film. If I'm not mistaken, this was actually a made-for-TV movie, and as such it is exceptional indeed. Of course, you won't find any blood and gore here, but the Gothic aspect of the tale really doesn't rely on such overt means of communicating its wickedly evil message. Satan's School For Girls really beats the odds, serving up a creepy tale worth watching more than once.

4-0 out of 5 stars Classic Cult Camp
This movie is a hoot! I remember seeing it when it originally aired in the early 70's. The DVD brought back a lot of memories for me. The campy dialogue, over-the-top performances from some of the actors, the "cheesey" feel that all those movie of the week films had back then. I'd also forgotten that the movie of the week format was only 90 minutes long as well. Some other reviews have complained about the quality of the DVD. I personally think the poor quality actually adds to the campiness of the movie. That's the way those movies were shown back then. Watching the DVD is like watching the movie the way it originally aired. I think it was a smart move not to "remaster" the quality of the film for the DVD. The grainey look just adds to it's charm. For any Charlie's Angels fans, it's also fun to see Kate Jackson and Cheryl Ladd working together prior to earning their wings. I remember Kate Jackson appearing in the movie but had no idea that Cheryl Ladd was in it as well. I was actually surprised her role was a big as it was, since I didn't remember her at all. For any fan of camp trash, this movie is a must have, so don't let all those complaints about the poor quality of the DVD scare you off. That is actually one of this DVD's biggest assets.

3-0 out of 5 stars funny movie, horrible quality dvd
As someone else noted, the picture quality on this dvd is quite horrendous. It does look like a very badly worn film reel. I found the sound okay for a made for tv movie from the 70's, though, and never had difficulty understanding the dialogue.

The real reason to get this, obviously, is for its high camp value. Even though some of the actors are decent, the overall production makes the entire thing silly. You gotta love the girls in hysteria scenes (the one before the first "suicide" and the second after the rat class). The score is so over the top it could be used in a parody.

I do remember seeing this on tv a lot in the 70's, late at night, but this is the second "Satan" film I have purchased and I still don't think I've found the one I'm really looking for. Does anyone remember one that also features a lot of teenage girls where the girls go out to some sort of altar and chant Satanic phrases? Maybe I'm just combining Yvonne DeCarlo's chanting in "Satan's Cheerleaders" with the girls in this film, but I don't think so.

1-0 out of 5 stars And for Stoicism, the Oscar goes to....
Though I'm a little embarassed to review a movie which doesn't move, I'm gutting it out because of Pamela Franklin, one of the two cutest actresses in history (the other being Genevieve Bujold), and in my view the *only* reason for watching this film. Having said that, I don't believe it's as bad as Leonard Maltin thinks it is, because there are a couple sequences in it, especially the one where Pamela goes, lamp in hand, down to the basement level of the schoolhouse in the midst of a thunderstorm, that are atmospheric -- not exactly classic Gothic stuff, but still passably good for a low-budget TV movie. In fact, most of the cast is either superior or respectable (not excluding Jo Van Fleet as the schoolmistress, and of course Roy Thinnes as the eponymous heavy). The problem is the contrived and pointless plot -- it's never explained why Satan, assuming He exists, should show up in this ridiculous little schoolhouse -- unless, like me, He's got a yen for Pamela (or Kate), so when we see him at the end of the film before his "coven" of acolytes with a monumental simper on his face, it's more outlandish than anything Aleister Crowley could have dreamed of. At that point, my jaw dropped about 5 inches, but not from horror. For her part, Pamela shows awesome professionalism in a role which insults her acting talent, but which still can't succeed in concealing her charm. It's films like this which make me think there should be a "Stoicism Award" at the Oscars, given to the candidate who, in spite of the most formidable obstacles, manages to escape from a movie without needing an exorcist.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 star movie - 1 star DVD
This is a great movie! I love the scene after the "rat class" when the one girl has a total breakdown, she is completely convincing & hilarious! But the DVD looks & sounds like it was mastered from a worn out rental tape! I was going to give it one star because of that, but figured people might think it was a bad movie or something! The DVD is still watchable & it's cheap enough to not really matter! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best movid of David's life you will find, period..
This is the most accurate story of David movies you can possibly see. I admittingly have not seen EVERY single movie/film that has ever been produced about the life of David, but ive seen all major ones released in theaters and available at Blockbuster Videos etc.

This one is the longest in length of time as well and still is full of accurate details taken from the bible. There is some small inconsistencies but nothing to really get upset or offended about. You can tell it was done with the utmost respect for the scriptures and accuracy was a priority.

Definitly one to add to your collection of biblical story films..

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, yet I wish it was a little better
I just finished watching the movie this evening. I really like the movie. It is one of the more Biblically accurate movies I've seen on the life of David. The movie covers the period of Saul's rejection by God to Absolom's rebellion. However, it skips lots of things in the middle.

The acting is at the same time wonderful and lacking. They do a great job in acting, yet they always seemed a bit reserved when it came to emotion. Events that would seem to be full of emotion were acted with a bit of monotone.

Yet, this is a good movie. Set in Israel and hearing the blessed Name, YHWH, in a movie is such a treat! There are definitely anachronisms such as the battlements and 3 story houses displayed. They didn't exist at the same time. And you wonder why they leave certain things out that would appear to have made the scene more powerful.

But all these critiques are trifles. It is still a great movie and I recommend it to anyone. The pace is good (considering the movie was made in the 70s) and it kept my attention. Some parts were absolutely brilliant. Parents, you'll enjoy this movie with your kids because there is little violence overall. Some suggestive places in dealing with Bathsheeba, but nothing that forces you to explain anything!

If you want more action, I'd recommend Turner Network's David. It's also very good and has a bit richer/deeper acting.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Story of David
This is a wonderful movie. The best part is the use of the Sacred Name Yahweh. When I started the video, the first word is Yahweh, and then from that point on it was a winner to me and my family. I hope that there will be others that I can view with my family that have the most important Name that any of us will ever know in it. Thank you Ylisha ... Read more

Have Rocket, Will Travel is the first Three Stooges feature film after the team became television icons and Joe DeRita was called in to replace Joe Besser (who had replaced Shemp, who had replaced Curly). Aimed at a younger audience, it included a good deal of the physical violence theirSnow White film tried to avoid. Curly Joe was given the old Curly shtickof being struck by a tool, exclaiming a painful "Oooo" and then giving asurprised reaction when the tool appears bent from the contact with his cement- like head. He is also prone to a weaker version of his role model's "Woowoowoo."

The plot revolves around the team's accidental launch into space and their adventures on a Venus that looks identical to Earth, including breathable air but housing a giant tarantula that breathes fire and a unicorn that speaks slightly archaic English. There is also an unconvincing robot that is lonesome enough to create three fellow robots in the form of the three Earthlings. This leads merely to a routine already familiar to viewers of old-time comedies: a chase down a corridor lined with doors through which the six are exiting and reentering in a physically impossible way.

The final sequence in which the returning "heroes" wreck a social event is overly familiar from the earlier films, especially the old "sofa spring stuckthe rear" routine; and indeed it all seems tacked on to stretch the film to its76 minutes. Light-comedy veteran Jerome Cowan does his best in a role that would have been handled by Jimmy Finlayson in a Laurel & Hardy film. It isgood to hear the team sing the title and closing songs, but they add little to the film.

Children will love this feature, but they must be advised that the eye-poking and hitting are all tricks not to be emulated. --Frank Behrens ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Late Stooge classic
Have Rocket, Will Travel is the first feature film starring the Three Stooges. The Stooges work as janitors at a space station and are accidentaly shot up into space when a rocket goes off course. Landing on the planet Venus, Moe, Larry, and Curley Joe discover huge fire-breathing tarantulas, a talking unicorn, and a lonely robot who clones the Stooges so he will have friends. Returning to Earth, the Stooges are celebrated as the first spacemen upon which they have a huge party similar to the ones in so many of their shorts. As expected, the story is very goofy with many of the usual Stooges antics that fans have come to love. While Curley Joe will never be as funny as the original Curly, he is still pretty good as are Moe and Larry. Stooge fans will love this classic from late in the career of the hilarious comedy team!

5-0 out of 5 stars "The Stooges"take us a wild rocket ride and We Love It!
"The Three Stooges"have returned to the movies in a big way in January,1959.As they finally become the stars of their first feature length film:"Have Rocket Will Travel!".In this spoof of outrageous sci fi films and America's space program. The trio are inept janitors for "The National Space Foundation".Where the head of the program:"Mr.Morse"(Jerry Cowan)is having troubles trying to get his rockets off the ground and into space. When the third model has failed to make it's entry into space."Morse" and his leading scientist"Dr.Narvig"(Virna Lisi)are told by their superiors"By the next meeting of the board. If you can't come up with a solution to the fuel and the thrust problem? The foundation will have to call a hault to this project.".Seeing that "Dr.Narvig"is in trouble. The boys sneak into the lab late one night and they inadvertedly create their own rocket fuel With a weird mixture of liquid hydrogene, kerosine, borrillium, popcorn and sugar. They pump the fuel into the ship. But "Mr.Morse"catches the boys messing around in the lab and chases them into the rocket."Morse"turns on the rocket's controls and sends "The Stooges"on a runaway trip to the planet Venus.Where they meet a friendly talking unicorn(Voiced by Dallas McKennon),a fire breathingh spider. And an evil talking robot(Voiced by Larry Fine's Son In Law Don Lamond).Who uses the boys as prototypes for three evil robotic doubles of the trio for the purpose of conquering the earth. The team and "Uni The Talking Unicorn"manage to escape the mainical robots and head back to earth.Where they're hailed as heroes. The Stooges are still able to perform their slapstick with great ease and skill in this picture and they also show off their talents as singers. As they perform the film's title tune. The movie also has some fine special effects and a no holds barred slapstick finale that tops "Hoi Polli"in it's parodying high society parties and all of their ridicules pomp and circumstance.Mr.Lamond also makes a brief guest appearance at the end of the film as a newspaper reporter. And The New third Stooge:Vaudville and Burlesque vetrain Joe De Rita helps Moe & Larry in their assults on science, high society, sci fi movies and pompus employers. The only annoyence in this movie is again the use of two romantic leads:Ms.Lisi and(a pre "Time Tunnel") Robert Colbert as the scientist and the foundation's resident shrink.Who do little more than try to bill and coo for the teenage set.Nevertheless."The Three Stooges"invite us all to join them on their wild trek to Venus and Of Course. We 're still enjoying the ride to this day.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of their funniest!
I saw this film for the first time back in the late 1970's when I was 5 years old, and since then can't stop watching it every once in a while. The fact that it came out in 1959 at the beginning of the space age when the race between the East and the West was in full effect, adds a whole extra dimension to the story. My favorite two scenes of the movie are the one when they chase a monkey inside the crashed rocket, and the other when they flood the fuel research laboratory. Highly recommended both for the collectors and for those exploring the three stooges.

4-0 out of 5 stars Stooges Return
The Stooges first of many movies from 1959-1965 is one of my favorites, with great gags and supporting performances, especially by Jerome Cowan. I remeber the giant tarantula scene from my childhood 30 years ago!

4-0 out of 5 stars "Moe's Uglier In Person, Rather Than As A Robot."
Soon after the great success of their re-released classic two-reelers on television (for which Columbia Pictures made $12 million), Columbia finally, after 24 years, offered the stooges a chance to star in their first full-length motion picture, titled "Have Rocket, Will Travel"(1959). They quickly accepted the offer and filming began. Sadly, Curly and Shemp never got this chance. Joe DeRita had filled in the third stooge slot in 1958. "Have Rocket, Will Travel"(1959) turned out to be one of the top box-office money-makers of 1959 and is the best 3 Stooges movie ever produced with Joe DeRita(Joe Besser was unable to stay with the act, due to his wife's failing health).

The plot: Moe, Larry, and Joe are janitors at a space laboratory who try to help Dr. Ingrid Naarveg(Anna-Lisa) produce a rocket fuel after her boss, J.P. Morse(Jerome Cowan) threatens to expel her if she can't perfect the fuel in time for the launch. The stooges concoct the fuel themselves and are accidentally set off into space. While trying to contact the boys, Naarveg discovers that they are unknowingly heading towards Venus.

"Have Rocket, Will Travel"(1959) is the trio's best feature in many ways. It's the one film that plays out like a 3 Stooges two-reeler. It remains faithful to their original shorts throughout. DeRita reenacts the spring on trousers gag and gets caught in a maze of pipes. "Have Rocket, Will Travel"(1959) is the funnest stooge film to watch, mainly because of its similarity to the shorts. All the fun of 4 two-reelers is packed into one hilarious movie. Only in the last half hour does the film start to become a yawner. A sequel was planned, but it never materialized. ...

The plane had been in storage for a number of years prior to 2000. ... Read more

This is a story of a aged old parent who has a hard time getting along with a daughter who tries whole heartedly to patch things up from her hurtful childhood memory, her brother tries to comfort her in the time of her needs and urges her and her father to get together and ptach things up before his time goes.

3-0 out of 5 stars ..... A True TV classic
Amazon have found this rare little gem on video- a true classic TV series. Sam Cade is a compilation of two different episodes from the 1971-72 Cades County series. Veteran actor Glenn Ford, stars as Sam Cade a modern day sheriff of Madrid county on the Mexican border who, races againgst time to track down hit men and prevent mob warfare as well as being pitted againgst his loyalities of an old war time buddy and old girlfriend.

By todays standards, its pretty tame kick butt fayre but, it does provide for good afternoon entertainment.

However, joining two original unassociated episodes, results in the video appearing too long and confusing to follow at times.

Interestingly, this is the first time I have seen this series since its initial TV airing in 1972,and for that reason, for the astute collector of rare videos, this is a must!! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars OK Western, poor quality tape
I purchased Front Row Entertainment's VHS version of "Vengeance Valley" and was bitterly disappointed. The video quality is poor and the sound track is no better. The story, from what I could make of it, is humdrum. If you're a Lancaster fan, however, the movie is worth having in your collection. And if you're a fan of wasting 20 bucks on a poor quality video, this is a tape for you!

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Cast in an Average Western
Vengeance Valley is an average Western. Its best feature is a remarkably strong cast. This alone means that it ought not to be classified as a B film, for second features could not afford so many familiar faces, nor could they afford the fine location shooting which is to be found in Vengeance Valley. The cast perform quite well. Robert Walker always makes a better villain than a good guy. He portrays both weakness and malevolence in a performance which bears comparison with his more celebrated role in Strangers on a Train. It is always a pleasure to watch Burt Lancaster, but his acting lacks the authority which would be present in his later films. I always look out for Joanne Dru films, but this is not one of her best. The feisty and beautiful heroine of She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Red River seems to have faded somewhat and it is possible to see in this film the seeds of her decline as a star. She would make no more important films after this.

The story is interesting without being original. Walker and his foster brother Lancaster fight it out over Dru and Cattle. Strangely the 'vengeance' of the film's title does not refer to this aspect of the plot, but to a sub-plot in which two cowboys seek vengeance on the man who made their sister pregnant. Still Vengeance Valley makes a more snappy title than Battling Brothers.

This is by no means a classic Western, but it is perfectly competent. It may not linger long in the memory, but fans of the genre will certainly enjoy the ride while it lasts.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sturdy Western
This is a sturdy western featuring beautiful color photography, and an interesting character study. Burt Lancaster plays a stolid, depedable foster son who reluctantly has to face down his reckless foster brother played by Robert Walker. Walker and Lancaster play off each other well, their naturally opposing acting styles heightning the conflict between these two. Unfortunately, Robert Walker, who made quite an impression in his short film career -- especially in Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train" -- would be dead shortly after this film was released. A sad footnote to an overlooked but interesting film. ... Read more
