NOW, if only Miss Carrie Fisher could pen a sequel ... I'm sure that Debbie and Leslie would instantly accept. Along the lines of "Tammy, was it True?"; "Tammy 2002?", you get my drift......
Tammy Tyree is an uneducated orphan living on a riverboat on the Mississippi with her moonshiner grandpa (Walter Brennan) when a private plane crashes near them. While nursing its pilot, Pete (Leslie Nielsen), back to health, Tammy falls in madly in love with him. But Pete sees Tammy as a child (she is 17 and he is about 30). He does promise her grandfather that if anything ever happens to Grandpa, Pete will take in Tammy. Soon after Pete leaves, Tammy has to take him up on his promise, because Grandpa is caught red-handed operating his still and hauled off to jail. After a long, tiring walk, tugging her goat behind her, Tammy is amazed to encounter the, to her, opulent lifestyle of Pete and his parents and aunt, who live on a rundown Southern plantation. She is terribly disappointed to discover Pete is engaged, but the relationship is rocky, because Pete wants to grow prize-winning tomatoes and save the plantation, while his fiancée wants him to move to the big city and work at her rich daddy's corporation. Meanwhile, Pete's best friend has been in love with Pete's fiancée for years, and begins to make moves on both her and Tammy while Pete is preoccupied with his tomatoes. The song, "Tammy's In Love," sung very pleasingly by Debbie Reynolds in the film, was a big hit the year the film came out. Debbie was probably in her early twenties at the time and very pretty and perky. I found it fascinating to see Fay Wray of King Kong fame playing Pete's fifty-something mother. She looks beautiful. Mildred Natwick, a delightful comic actress, plays Pete's aunt and adds a lot to the story. I love Walter Brennan, a hugely talented comic actor. His portrayal of Grandpa was both warm and funny. ... Get ready to go from a good cry, to a big grin and back again on this very enjoyable and heartwarming family TV program. It's the beginning of a classic series that stands the test of time, and should be shared with a new generation. "The Premiere Movie"..a double length feature that will introduce you to the Ingalls family and their harrowing journey to make a better life for themselves. You'll also meet Jack the dog and Mr. Edwards(Victor French) for the first time. When Charles says "Caroline..were home...".have the kleenex ready! It stars Michael Landon(who also directed many of the episodes), Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson. Goodtimes DVD has done a nice job of transfering these 70's TV classsics. They look great. Nice color and sound. There is some occasional flickering but a very enjoyable view overall. It's nice to be able to enjoy them whenever the mood hits and without all the commercials!.If you really love these stories, you may want to consider buying the 4 pack. It includes this one,a double length feature "The Lord Is My Sheperd"(Little Laura runs away to be closer to God),"The Collection"(guest starring Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash), and "Laura Ingalls Wilder"(Laura and Almanzo finally tie the knot), another double length feature. You'll laugh, you'll cry!...enjoy...Laurie
The transfer quality is good as well the sound. The only thing is the absence of any subtitles or captions necesary for international customers like me. I want to see also a good show featuring M Landon and Victor French Highway to Heaven released soon on Dvd. Meanwhile I will collect most of the LHOTP Dvds. ... Read more

Glenn Ford is good, as always, as Lt. Commander Barney Doyle, who attempts to sink the Japanese carrier, Shinaru, at all costs. Ernest Borgnine is equally as good as Doyle's executive officer and second-in-command, Lt. Archer Sloan, who turns down a promotion to remain with Doyle on the Greyfish. In a smaller part, Diane Brewster plays Doyle's wife, Jane. The rest of the crew includes Dean Jones as Lt. Jake "Fuzz" Foley, a young, inexperienced officer on board, L.Q. Jones, Robert Hardy, and Paul Picerni. The movie also stars Philip Ober and Richard Carlyle. The Torpedo Run VHS is of decent quality, but this submarine movie deserves a DVD release in widescreen presentation as is shown on Turner Classic Movies. For an excellent and exciting submarine adventure with a great cast, check out Torpedo Run!
Although maybe not in the same class as Run Silent, Run Deep (what is?), this is still a pretty good sub flick. I say that with a couple of reservations, as it's sort of like the Yellow Brick Road of sub war movies, because of the apparently crazy or excessively risk-taking behavior of the captain, played by Glenn Ford. In one scene, Ford makes the dangerous decision to shoot the Japanese aircraft carrier hiding behind a transport ship although 1400 American POWs (including his own wife and family) are on board the transport. He misses and sinks the transport. It's not made clear why he couldn't move around to the other side of the carrier, which is using the transport as a human shield. However, another scene where they must negotiate the underwater minefield in Tokyo harbor to get inside the Japanese defenses is suspenseful and well done. Glenn Ford craftily gets the sub both in and out of the harbor without being detected, sinking a ship in the process. They snag a couple of mine mooring lines, which sound pretty creepy as the lines scrape along the side of the hull, but none explode. Good ol' Glenn Ford manages to project an aura of avuncular warmth and thoughtfulness despite being the stern, serious, sub captain who obviously intends to live life on the edge--even for submarine warfare--even if that means sending his ship to the bottom--which he does in another scene, although the crew manages to escape. Ernest Borgnine is also good in his supporting role. Overall a pretty decent submarine war movie despite not a few implausible elements.
Excellent action. Good acting. Very interesting. Good account of social interaction between crew. Good account of captain's family interaction.

While this is an earlier episode, you can tell the show was hitting its stride. All the elements are there: timed sequences, the fake accents, a magician, hiding in equipment to gain entrances, fake ids and what is always best - watching the team psych out their prey. I do not recall having seen this episode and I was surprisingly tense watching this show...there is so much going on and you know there is always the unexpected surprise. This show had everything including a trained cat! Don't miss it. ... Read more

I recommend anybody who likes westerns to get "The Night of the Grizzly." It's an interesting movie and the scenery of the San Bernadino National Forest is great.
Much of the charm of the movie is in the picture of a close-knit family making a home for itself in a new land, and in the well-drawn, well-acted characters, including Hank (Jack Elam), the town loafer, Wilhelmina "Bill" Peterson (Nancy Kulp of "The Beverly Hillbillies"), who keeps the general store, and Hazel Squires (Ellen Corby), Duke's tiny, feisty mother. It's true that the "bear" in several of the close-ups is obviously a man in a bear suit, but there are also some impressive shots of a genuine grizzly, as well as some gorgeous trans-Divide Wyoming scenery and a generous helping of humor. While there's little man-vs.-man shooting (I won't say none), three fistfights provide some action, and the steadily rising tension between Jim and Angie as the stress tests their marriage, the threat of losing the ranch, and the looming menace of Dowdy keep the suspense going. This would be an excellent movie for "family night" viewing; it's been one of my favorites for over three decades.

I still prefer the Wheeler Dealers for sheer fun, but overall CC is a better movie, with a more interesting plot and co-star.
The story is bittersweet, but there is a happy ending. The businessmen have hearts, and the mid-century architecture (McCall's penthouse) and Miss Wood's wardrobe are just superb. Pretty Woman can't hold a candle to this one.
This was an O.K. movie and a first for some things but it was not funny or inspiring or suspenseful or...
Call it a bedroom farce if you like but Cash McCall combines a lot of wheeling and dealing with a good old fashioned boy-meets-girl to make a very pleasing movie. At first glance, McCall (Garner) is part playboy, part ruthless businessman, but we know better; that his heart of gold belongs only to Lory Austen (Wood), a woman he met last Summer, and he's thought of nothing but her since. Standard fare, well done with attractive stars, that alone puts it in the upper 20% as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy it. ... Read more

This first tape in the "Mission Impossible" series has the pilot and a choice episode from the show's second season. In the pilot episode (9/17/66), Wally Cox plays a safecracker who has to sneak into the vault of a hotel to steal a couple of nuclear warheads from a military dictator. This was the only episode of the show written by series creator Bruce Geller. This is not a classic episode per se, but it clearly sets the template for the entire series. "The Photographer" (12/17/67), written by two of the show's most productive writers, William Read Woodfield and Allan Balter, deals with biological warfare. Enemy agents intend to spread pneumonic plague and a top photographer (Anthony Zerbe) is the key contact. The IMF fakes a nuclear attack on New York to get the key to the code. Yes, there is a large degree of irony in watching this particular episode today, but remember what things were like in the Sixties. "The Photographer" is a classic MI episode and along with the pilot makes this an excellent tape to have for fans of the series. Final Note: For my money the title sequence for this show is definitely one of the ten best ever, not just because of Lalo Schifrin's memorable theme music but because of the way shots from the episode were mixed in with the burning fuse and shots of the cast. You always saw enough to get interested in what was to happen, but they never let the cat out of the bag enough to ruin the episode.

This is a show that the creator (Bruce Gellar) did not want to make. Later this became one of his favorite shows. Phelps is clearly pained by Cinnamons capture and the rescue is a "cold war" stroke of genius. A must see!!
I have the picture of the villian (with a Fidel Castro looking) shooting Rollin when he fiunds ot that Rollin is an IMF agent. The golden stealing scene was really well planed and really well done (I hear that the golden bars whre Ice Creams tablets). I read in a megazine that this scene became very famous. It was always good to see IMF on action. In my opinion, "The Mercenaries is the second best episode of MI's season 3. It only looses for "The Mind of Staphan Miklos". ... Read more

For diehard fans of the series, however, there's a rather egregious cut made of a crucial scene that shows how Jim gets out of a scrape. Viewers who haven't seen the missing footage will find themselves wondering what happened. It seems that MCA Home Video used a syndication print, rather than an original master. In sum, then, five stars for the episode and the visual quality of the print -- but two stars must be subtracted from the overall rating given the editing. "Rockford," by the way, is a series that cries out for a comprehensive release in the Columbia House Video Library series. ... Read more

Guest star James Woods is superb as Larry Kirkoff, particularly in those distracted-in-thought facial expressions he makes a few times while Rockford is talking to him. Regular Joe Santos is especially strong in his performance as Sgt. Dennis Becker. And guest Abe Vigoda is perfect in appearance, voice, and subtle hand movements in his brief role as "labor-union" (mob) boss Al Dancer. Recommended reading.

For one thing, being from California & living just an hour away from Stockton, I liked the show's locale! Most other westerns take place in Texas, or Arizona, or New Mexico, or Nevada ("Bonanza"), but "The Big Valley" takes place near my home! It was also the first western I ever saw (I first saw it on re-runs when I was nine.) I also found the Barkleys more believable than the Cartwrights. (Ben Cartwright was widowed three times,. for godsakes!) The over-the-top stories with the moral/social lessons are solid (How many times has Lee Majors' "Heath" been falsely arrested by a corrupt sheriff?) & the action-scenes are well-staged. (My favorite was the episode where Nick helps out a boxer. The fight scenes were expertly done!) The characters were also well-defined (except of course, Linda Evans' "Audra", who isn't given much to do, except look pretty.) If you haven't seen "The Big Valley" & you like westerns, buy this tape! The story concerns the Barkleys helping out an old friend of theirs, an exiled Mexican general, who is being sought after by a corrupt political opponent. (The Barkleys seem to have been involved with every historical figure of the Old West! And like other wealthy tv western families, they care more about what's right than about their vast land & financial holdings! After all, Barbara Stanwyck's "Victoria Barkeley" takes in Lee Major's "Heath" character as a member of the family, even though he is the illigitamate son of her husband & his mistress! If only REAL wealthy ranchers of the Old West were like that!) You may not get an accurate California history lesson by watching "The Big Valley" (the most inaccurate was the episode "Light Foot" with Joe Don Baker as a Modoc Indian, even though the Modocs were nowhere near Stockton!), but you'll get a solid family-drama with great dialogue & fast-paced action! Like Lee Majors as "Heath" would say, "Boy howdy!"
