5-0 out of 5 stars Funniest Movie Ever Made
This cult classic has finally made it to video. Every western movie cliche is lampooned in this made for TV movie starring (among others) John Astin, Milton Berle, Mickey Rooney, and Dick Shawn-- with cameos by then unknown actors such as Ed Begley, Jr, Penny Marshall, Pat Morita, John Ritter, and Dom Deluise.

Evil Roy Slade falls for Miss Betsy Palmer who tries to reform Slade, unsuccessfully. Slade even tries to change his name. "Evil John Ferguson? Nah. Evil Lee Rich, yeah, that's good, that's good."

Dick Shawn plays the "Paladin" type character, Ding Bell, hired to put an end to Slade. Rumor has it his outfits were created by Liberace's personal wardrobe designer.

Bing Bell likes to sing and play his guitar as he rides along to "keep my mind off the smell of the horse".

The puns and one liners come so quick and often, that you will probably miss half of them the first time through. But that's OK because you will want to watch this film several times.

This film is great fun for the whole family.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Search Has Ended!
I had been looking for a copy of this video for years. I had first viewed this movie while I was in high school and it was a movie made for TV. It is probably the funniest movie I have ever watched. When I watched it again, I was laughing so hard, I fell off the couch! My daughter enjoyed watching it, and so have all of the people who have watched it. I am now waiting for this to come out on DVD, so that I can buy another copy, in case my VHS doesn't get returned or simply wears out.

This movie was made in a time when family-viewing films were more common. I would place it into the same category of many of the Disney films of the era.

A gunfighter is attempting to reform himself for the love of his life. The Evil Roy Slade trys real, real hard to become a member of society. My favorite scenes are when he becomes a shoe salesman. People working with the buying public will understand his frustration with the customers.

Again, a wonderful, funny look at life for the entire family.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Western Parody
Evil Roy Slade is a decent parody of Westerns. Evil Roy is literally a truly evil villain so much so that as a baby he was spurned by both Indians and wolves alike and wound up being raised by vultures.

Evil Roy Slade ranks 4 out of 5 stars because while the movie is funny, it is also overly goofy and quite implausible overall. It is also predictable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jeez I have finally got a copy
This film cannot be bought for love nor money over here in the U.K. So finally after something like 25 - 30 years of searching I have finally got a copy coming from the States(thankfully my VCR is NTSC compatable).
I only have ever seen this film once when I was about 10 or 11 back in 72/73....to say it has stayed in my memory ever since says a lot about it!!! I thought it was the funniest film I had EVER seen (and still do), and though I never ever saw it again I was always scouring the TV listings .... the closest I got to seeing it for a second time was whilst holidaying in Canada..I saw it listed but we could'nt get the T.V. station!!!
I have to agree with the other reviews at Amazon (I have read every one!!) and say this has to be the best comedy film ever made, and although I was only small when first watching it the film has stuck with me throughout my life. At last my friends who thought I was nuts will get to see it!!!
Can't wait!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars stubby finger, tapping out your code......
John Astin at his best. Mickey Rooney and Henry Gibson are a riot as well. even Milton Berle is memorable. Get it, grab a root beer, grab the kids and laugh together. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Unsung CLASSIC Of American Comedy!
With "Viva Max!" director Jerry Paris(best known for directing numerous episodes of "The Dick Van Dyke Show")took the skills he had finely tuned for television(sharp, clever, fast-paced comedy)and brought them to The Big Screen. What makes this film such a stand-out from his work in television is that he was successfully able to combine these said skills with social and political themes, creating a film that is both hysterically funny and fast-paced, yet filled with MUCH "Food For Thought".

As a person who hails from BOTH the cultures(Texas Anglo and Mexican-American)depicted in this story, I could relate to the REAL significance of this film. Upon initial viewing, one may only see it as a clever, fast-paced comedy, well-acted by a STERLING cast(indeed, I think John Astin's performance as Sgt. Valdez ranks among the FINEST of his ENTIRE career).

Upon REPEATED viewings however, one can start to recognize FAR MORE to both script and cast of characters, than was initially apparent. The DEPTH of personality(particularly in Astin's and Ustinov's characters)simply DEMANDS repeated viewings to REALLY appreciate. They are complex:both inept and ludicrous, yet oddly courageous, stoic and ultimately WISE in their "Military Conquest" of Anglo-America!

Comedian Jonathan Winters turns in THE performance of a lifetime as the good-natured, befuddled brigadeer general of the Texas National Guard, chosen as a liason between the Mexican Army and the Texas Anglos.

Want to know what Texans are REALLY like? FORGET "King Of The Hill" and WATCH THIS FILM!

4-0 out of 5 stars Anyone familiar with San Antonio this is a must see.
Fantastic what if story. The picked only serious actors for this politically correct film on manifest destiny. Peter Ustinov is General Maximilian Rodrigues de Santo. Although the story revolves around him many others help carry the story such as John Astin Sergeant Valdez who keeps the general out of trouble and Jonathan Winters as General Billy Joe Hallson of the National Guard.
This film was actually made in San Antonio. Written by Lehrer, James

Basic story is Mexican general is going to retake the Alamo as an act of heroism for his men.

2-0 out of 5 stars Viva Max?
Viva Max! is a dull, sometimes boring comedy. Filmed on location at the Alamo then relocated in Italy due to angry protesters interference in production, this movie stars Peter Ustinov as a Mexican General trying to re-capture the Alamo. Although Ustinov is great as the bumbling General, the only actor that could breath life into this movie was Jonathan Winters. Although Winters is at his best improvising comedy routines, he still manages to create some fairly funny scenes in this film. This film is a must-have for Ustinov and Winters fans. Otherwise, it bites.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny funny irreverent but funny.
This was PBS' Jim Lehrer's first book. The movie, now a video, starred some greats of the past. One almost has to feel sad for General Maxmillian at the end of the story but he most certainly 'saves face' and becomes a hero to his men. One of the most enjoyable books I have ever read and absolutely one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. You'll watch it again and again. Hope you'll tell me I was right! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Episode
For starters, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" is a classic, and this is THE episode that fans always remember. The magic of this episode is that it's so un-Mary. Dear, sweet, genuine Mary wouldn't be the person you'd expect to behave this way. The episode isn't really about death so much as it is about an embarassing moment, which we've all been through. When Mary Richards cries, you can't help but feel for her!

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally, I saw it.
Well I had been hearing about this episode for years. I was pretty young with this show was out so never really saw the series.

In this show, a TV clown, who is grandmarshal of a parade shows up dressed like one of his characters. "A Giant Peanut" a rogue elefant unfortunatly breaks loose and the clown is killed when the elefant successfully tries to shell him. EVerybody in MArys office is at first shocked but then cannot help but laugh at the incident. MAry is shocked at their insensitivity. However when Mary attends the clowns funeral.........
Taking into consideration that this show is nearly 30 years old I really enjoyed it. Some of the set-ups were a bit obvious now because they are typical sit-com set ups but remember that when this show first aired they were not, in fact this is one of the shows that created the road down with many of todays sitcoms go.
So for a dose of nostalga, or even if you never saw the show in it's heydey you need to get at least THIS episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Considered by many to be the funniest sitcom episode ever
"Chuckles Bites the Dust" (Episode #127, October 25, 1975), remains the best episode of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and is one of the classic situation comedy episodes of all time. Unless you have been living on another planet you know that Chuckles the Clown is killed when he is dressed as a Peanut and a rouge elephant attacks him. Mary is aghast at the gallows humor that compels the guys in the newsroom to keep making bad jokes. But then at the funeral it is Mary who has an attack of the giggles. Stop and think about it: on how many episodes of MTM does MARY get the big laughs? This is the proverbial exception that proves the rule, big time. Both writer David Lloyd and director Joan Darling earned Emmys Awards for this episode. For that matter, Mary Tyler Moore won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and the show won for Outstanding Comedy Series, probably on the strength of this legendary episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars Total Classic
"Dear sweet Mary"... of everyone in the WJM newsroom,(and for those of you who know and love her like i do) she is the most loving, caring, genuine person there is - so when she finds the humor in Chuckles' death at his funeral it is hilarious! you would expect this from any one else, NEVER Mary. But the total humor in it is when the Priest praises her for laughing "that's what Chuckles would have wanted"... then she begins to sob like crazy- total classic! 1 more thing: in Lou's office, for those of you who don't know, the pix of him on the wall in his football uniform is really him! What a hottie, eh? :)

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the (hee hee) all-time classic (heh heh) episodes
This is an episode about (hee hee) a horrible tragedy. Chuckles the Clown is in a parade, dressed as a (titter) peanut. And then something dreadful (hah hah) happens. A rogue elephant (snort) tries to shell him.

The people of the newsroom try to deal with the death in predicted ways. (heh heh) Lou and Murray can't help laughing; Ted is (snicker) bewildered; and Mary is simply horrified.

Then, the funeral comes, and the famous line "A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants." And Mary ... just ... can't ... help herself.

What makes this episode so memorable? Because we all know what that's like. We've all had a hard time controlling laughter during serious and/or embarrassing situations.

One warning: Your memories of the funeral scene with (heh heh) sneak up at the most inopportune (chuckle) times.

4-0 out of 5 stars Police Academy 3 was a great comedy
I loved Police Academy 3, it will always make you laugh. The comedy never stops in this great action film. All of the Police Academy movies are great and very funny..

5-0 out of 5 stars The graduates of the original train new recruits
This time the city has decided to shutdown of their police academies, so know it's between Lassard and Mauser's academies to compete to see which academy is the best and can stay open. Mahoney, Hightower, Jones, Tackelberry, etc are training new recruits including Sweet Chuck, and Zed(the gangleader in P.A. 2). There are many great gags, as one would come to expect, Mauser loses his eyebrows this time. There's a great Blue Oyster bar scene with Proctor. If you liked the first two you should enjoy this one, however it is tamer than the prievious Police Academy films, this would be one for the whole family to enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Police Academy
Police Academy 3 Back In Training. Is Probabaly the best out of all seven. The others are Exellent but this one is Faboulous.
If you have not seen this movie yet.The cast is faboulous , It is a great family comedy. Kids will love it.

4-0 out of 5 stars hijinks and hilarity
A film by Jerry Paris

If you have seen any of the "Police Academy" movies, you know exactly what you are going to get with "Police Academy 3: Back in Training". This is a screwball comedy dealing with the police force and a police academy. All of the major protagonists are very likable characters, however, and this has been the charm of the series (at least for those who think the series has charm). It is fun to follow the antics and hijinks of the squad of new recruits as they grow into police officers who always save the day no matter how ridiculous things gets. And no, that is not giving away the ending of any "Police Academy" movie.

Having graduated from the Academy in the first movie and being given their first assignment in the second movie, Commadant Lassard's (George Gaynes) favorite recruits are called back to help Lassard save his beloved Academy. The city is threatening to close one of its two police academies and there will be an evaluation team deciding which academy will remain open and which will close its doors for good. The competition is between Lassard's Academy and that of Lieutenant Mauser (Art Mertrano). Mauser will stop at nothing to keep his academy open. Lassard calls back his favorite recruits: Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg), Tackleberry (David Graf), Hightower (Bubba Smith), Jones (Michael Winslow) and the soft voiced Hooks (Marion Ramsey). They join Callahan (Leslie Easterbrook), a favorite instructor from the first film. Together, they mess things up in the attempt to look good for the evaluation team, but they are earnest enough that they can't help but win you over (all the while you are laughing).

When if first saw this movie ten to fifteen years ago, I loved it (and all the other "Police Academy" movies). Having grown up a bit, I understand that they aren't particularly great movies, but I still found "Police Academy 3" to be a lot of fun to watch. It remains funny, and charming, and reminds me of when I first watched the movie. It is a bit of nostalgia for me. The only downside to this movie: the return of Zed (Bobcat Goldthwait), the former gang leader from the second movie who is now a cadet at Lassard's academy. Naturally. Zed aside, fun movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars They're back where they started!
March 1986 saw the theatrical release of this film. The Metropolitan Police Academy Class of 1984 are "back in training" due to the possibility of one of two academies becoming defunct. A hired committee evaluates and compares the two academies,Commandant Eric Lassard's(George Gaynes) and Lieutant Mauser's(Art Metrano). Mauser hires Kyle Blankes and Chad Copeland, who both return after appearing in the first film,to rig Lassard's academy(Mauser wants to keep his and kill Lassard's). The devious duo come up with various tasks for Lassard's academy members. Much of the previous cast members appear in this film. Bobcat Goldthwait and Tim Kazurisnky return in this film, now members of the Metropolitan Police Academy. Now joining is Doug Fackler's wife, who two years ago, dissuaded Doug from joining! Doug's philosophy is "a woman's place is in the home". Also there's newcomer Karen Adams,a blonde beauty who also joins and whom Carey Mahoney(Steve Guttenberg) becomes attracted to. The villains in this film are terrorists at an outdoor luncheon. So the MPA members go undercover in wetsuits bringing the terrorists to justice. Mauser's academy becomes defunct which means Art Metrano would not return for the following sequels. Memorable scenes include Mauser losing his eyebrows via duct tape. This happened when at a pub,Carey blindfolds Mauser with the tape. Carey revolves a glass of beer, and champagne in another glass, same shape and size. Mauser plays the guessing game and wins. Proctor(Lance Kinsey) rapidly removes the tape, thus removing Mauser's eyebrow hairs. So Mauser gets a fake pair. Well, that was a much smaller mess of hair than what happened in PA2. The hooker, seen in the first film, also returns in this one. She does a favor for Proctor. Another funny scene,is where after a romantic escapade between the two,the hooker sweetly and gradually evicts Proctor from her hotel suite while he's still naked. He receives stares from shocked passersby! Also returning is Leslie Easterbrook as Lt. Callahan. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Gags Galore
These episodes from Mel Brooks' short-lived 1975 television series are good, wacky fun. Brooks and his team present a gag-filled, often hilarious send-up of the Robin Hood legend, some two decades before the feature film, "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" (which suffers by comparison with this series). Talented Dick Gautier is well cast as the dashing hero, while Dick Van Patten displays admirable comedic skills as the portly and always hungry Friar Tuck. Among the cast (many of whom will be recognizable to fans of 1970's television) are Sid Caesar as a French nobleman and Misty Rowe as a ditzy, sexy, and scheming Maid Marian. Watch for Dudley Moore's guest role, which includes a turn at the piano, as a visiting sheik who plans to wed Marian!

Overall, this is fun television -- complete with sight gags, nutty dialogue, over-the-top anachronisms, a silly theme song, and skillful comedic acting. For fans of Brooks, historical parody, and 1970's television, this is highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mary and Some of Her Disasterous Parties!
The Mary Tyler Moore Show is one of the best classic sitcoms from the 70s and some of the best episodes are the episodes that featured the running gag of Mary's disasterous parties and this tape has some great ones inluding the episode where Mary throws a dinner party for a congresswoman who was interviewed on one of her news programs and then winds up not having enough food for everyone when she winds up with uninvited guests and the one where Ted and Georgette come over for dinner and Georgette goes into labor but it's a shame that they didn't include the episode where Mary tried to throw a surprise birthday party for Lou not knowing that he hates surprise birthday parties and the one where the lights go out during a party in Mary's new apartment during a party where the congresswoman was bringing Johnny Carson as a guest and everyone reminiscences about all of Mary's past disasterous parties. I now have the first season of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on DVD and I'm looking forward to the rest of the seasons coming out on DVD and it would be so nice to see all of the party episodes on DVD!`

5-0 out of 5 stars Mary's disastorous party's on video!
This show and tape will make you die laughing. It's hilarious, Mary Richards throws some pretty horrible party's. If you like The Mary Tyler Moore show you will love this video it's funny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Four of Mary Richard's disastrous dinner parties on 2 tapes
One of the running gags on "The Mary Tyler Moore" show was that Mary's parties were always a disaster as the four episodes on these two tapes prove. "The Dinner Party" (Episode #82, November 17, 1973), written by Ed Weinberger, finds Mary stunned when a congresswoman (Irene Tedrow) accepts her rhetorical invitation to a dinner party. Henry Winkler plays one of the guests. In "Mary's Aunt" (Episode #126, October 18, 1975), my favorite of this quarter, written by David Lloyd, Mary's Aunt Flo (Eileen Heckart), a world-class foreign correspondent, drops in for a visit. The next thing Mary knows, Flo and Lou are engaged in a friendly little rivalry. "My Brother's Keeper" (Episode #65, January 13, 1973), written by Dick Clair and Jenna McMahon, finds Phyllis puzzled when her visiting brother seems more interested in Rhoda than Mary. Of course, it never occurs to her that her brother is gay. Actually, it did not occur to the writers until the original ending fizzled. Finally, in "Mary Midwife" (Episode #145, September 25, 1976), also written by David Lloyd, Georgette Baxter unexpectedly has her baby in Mary's apartment bringing to a close another one of Mary's unforgettable parties. Too bad they could not include the retrospective on her parties that ends with Johnny Carson shows up during a power failure. Oh, well. You cannot have everything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hi Guys
PARTY GIRL contains one of my favorite scenes from my all-time favorite sitcom: Lou taking 1/2 of Mary's party platter:

"Say. You know what? I'm not as hungry as I thought."

One episode that I would've put in place of the Aunt Flo episode was the party for Lou where he locked everyone out of Mary's apartment ("Aw come on Mr. Grant. Let Rhoda in--you like Rhoda"). Or maybe the party where the power went out just before the guest of honor arrived.

But the only real complaint I have about this VHS set is that it isn't enough. If MTM would package every episode on tape, I'd buy the whole thing in a second.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Box Set

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Mary and Rhoda Episodes!
The Mary Tyler Moore Show is one of my favorite shows from the 70's and one of my favorite sitcoms. I was 5 years old when it aired on television and grew up watching it. Mary and Rhoda are terrific characters and Mary Tyler Moore and Valerie Harper really made their characters shine and this tape has some of the best Mary and Rhoda moments. I now have the complete first season on DVD and I highly recommend it and I'm waiting for the rest of the seasons to come out on DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mary and Rhoda in the Pilot Episode of MTM and more
This collection of five episodes from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" not only features five episodes focusing on Mary Richards and Rhoda Morgenstern, but it also worth having because it has the pilot episode of this classic sitcom. "Love Is All Around" (Episode #1, September 19, 1970), finds Mary getting a fresh start in Minneapolis when she ditches her fiance, moves into a new apartment and takes a job as associate producer of the WJM news show. Mary's interview with Lou Grant is the high point, while the sub-plot has Rhoda insisting Mary has moved into HER apartment. The pilot episode was written by James L. Brooks and Allan Burns. "Is a Friend in Need" (Episode #36, December 4, 1971), finds Rhoda has lost her job dressing windows at the department store in this episode written by Susan Silver. Mary wants to help Rhoda find a new job, however, when it looks like her friend might find one at WJM, she goes out of her way to stop that from happening. "Some of My Best Friends Are Rhoda" (Episode #47, February 26, 1972) finds Mary forming a relationship with Joanne (Mary Frann), a woman she meets in a minor traffic accident. Rhoda is caught in the middle until Mary discovers Joanne is prejudiced. This is certainly an atypical episode of MTM, written by Steve Pritzker, which deals explicitly with Rhoda's Jewishness and Mary's liberalism. In "Rhoda Morgenstern: Minneapolis to New York" (Episode #62, December 16, 1972), written by Treva Silverman, Rhoda has decided to move back to New York City but has second thoughts during her farewell party with all her friends. This is the episode that introduced Georgette Franklin as Georgia Engel, the future Mrs. Ted Baxter. Finally, "Best of Enemies" (Episode #91, January 26, 1974), written by Marilyn Suzanne Miller and Monica Magowan Johnson, deals with the near end of this famous friendship when Rhoda tells the WJM staff that Mary lied about finishing college on her job application. She had spunk, huh? An interesting collection, but how could they leave out "Rhoda the Beautiful" where she competes in the beauty contest sponsored by her store? Or "Enter Rhoda's Parents"? Five episodes is just not enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars FUN
The MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW was brilliantly written and acted and this video is a MUST for anyone who appreciates the timing and chemistry between these two great performers! I thought Valerie Harper was sensational as Rhoda (talk about personality PLUS!) and she and Mary (who was reticent in comparison) contrasted very nicely and their many classic scenes together are timelessly hilarious!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Unforgettable Pair
This video of FOUR episodes of "Mary Tyler Moore" will give you infinate pleasure. It is very modestly priced, and contains the best episodes that feature Mary and Rhoda. You will also be VERY surprised at how this show and others are MUCH MUCH better when purchased pre-recorded. Nothing against Nick at Nite, but they cut EVERY episode, often removing ENTIRE scenes, like several in this set. AND they put the entire edited show through a time compression machine, which makes Mary often sound like Minnie Mouse! You will be surprised at how the show has it's original "feel" back, The complete theme song, remastered, and the full, unedited episodes. If you want to build a first-class collection of this show, THIS video is the one to start with! It will only make you hunger for more! Truly memorable characters, outstanding writing and directing, and it STILL holds the record for the most EMMYs for ANY single show. 22 of them! ... Read more

A much inferior sequel to the first hit film, Police Academy 2 nevertheless manages to keep a free-spirited, juvenile tone. Steve Guttenberg (Cocoon, Three Men and a Baby) returns as the charming goof-off, now graduated from the academy. He and the usual batch of misfits are let loose on the streets as rookie cops, wreaking havoc everywhere they go as they do battle with terrorists threatening the city. 4-0 out of 5 stars A Funny Movie!!
Police Academy 2 is a funny movie, I even liked it more then the first movie and I think Steve Guttenberg, Bubba Smith and David Graf were great as Mahoney, Hightower and Tackleberry and the rest of the cast is good too. The first movie in this series was good but Police Adademy 2 just made me laugh more and I remember watching this movie with my nephews who liked the Police Academy movies so much they got the action figure toys and besides the toys I think this movie series also got an animated series. I recommend Police Academy 2, it's really entertaining and this and the third movie are my favorites!

That line made me laugh soo!!(...)hard, I laughed all night. This is one of the funniest movies ever. Steve Guttenberg and David Graf are hilairous. See this, if it's even the last movie you ever see.

5-0 out of 5 stars The first post-graduation assignment
This film was theatrically released on March 29,1985 precisely 53 weeks after the release of the first film. Some cast members of the first film have not returned for the sequel, and some have appeared for the first time such as Lance Kinsey as Seargeant Proctor, who'd appear in the next 4 sequels and Art Metrano as Lieutenant Mauser. Mauser's academy is separate from Commandant Eric Lassard's(George Gaynes). Mauser is the watch commander for those who were cadets in the first films(they are now seargeants). Also with an academy of his own is Eric's brother Pete(Howard Hesseman). Pete needed to "get his hands on some healthy young men",as he tells Eric on the phone. So the Metropolitan Police Academy's Class of 1984 are referred to Pete's academy. Pete has a "healthy young woman" also, her being soft-spoken Laverne Hooks(Marion Ramsey). The '84 graduates screw up,aggravating Pete. They are sent to put and end to the raunchy behavior of a dangerous gang who is terrorizing the city. Here we meet two more newcomers,stand-up comedian Bobcat Goldthwait who plays the leader of the gang and Tim Kazurinsky, late of Saturday Night Live,as Mr. Swechiuk,a home furnishings store proprietor. Gun buff Eugene Tackleberry(the late David Graf),while on motorcycle duty, meets the girl of his dreams, and marries in the final scene,Kathleen Kirkland(Colleen Camp). While preparing for his first date out on the town with Kathleen,Eugene splashes gun oil on his face as an alternative to cologne! Also,he gives Kathleen a pair of earrings in the shape of miniature handcuffs. The gang terrorizes a supermarket, knocking down merchandise and opening packages. The gang wrecks havoc at a carnival also. The star character,Carey Mahoney(Steve Guttenberg) goes undercover as a gangster like the gang seen in this film, and brings them to justice with the help of his colleagues, including Laverne, who again angrily yells "DON'T MOVE DIRTBAG!" Then, there's the civil wedding ceremony of Eugene and Kathleen Kirkland Tackleberry with all of Eugene's colleagues present and Kathleen's brother and parents. Another funny scene is where Lt. Mauser is about to shampoo his hair. The shampoo is taken away and replaced with a strong glue, like Krazy Glue. Some of the removed hair ended up on his hands. So Proctor places a wig on Mauser's head. It looks totally different, the wig being straight auburn hair(Mauser's natural hair is black and permed). Also, not seen in theatres but on television,is the scene, following the wedding, where the gang members join the Metropolitan Police Academy. Zed,the gang leader became a new man upon joining and would return for the next two sequels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Herman's a big lovable frump.
I remember seeing this movie when I was a kid. I hadn't seen it in many years. How could you not love the comedy team of Gwynne and Lewis. From "Car 54, Where Are You" to Herman and Grandpa, they are as well matched as any of the great duo's. The one thing missing in this movie are the laugh tracks. Some people hate them. I think they were nostalgia for that time period. I realize this was a movie, but I feel the use of the laugh track was a big part of the TV show's success because there are some parts of this movie that needed it. Comments that were funny, but were dry and/or quiet because of it not being there. This movie is a full length continuation of the TV show. I also enjoyed being able to see them in color and finally getting to see their green skin. The black and white TV show is reminiscent of all the great original monster movie's of the 30's and 40's seen in that same format and another plus in my opinion to the show's success. The Munsters were and still are an enjoyable part of my life. Even my five year old grandson loves Herman. That's got to tell you something.

5-0 out of 5 stars From a die hard Munsters fan...
I loved this movie, I am sure to watch it, with my children several more times this year! The kids were just introduced to the Munsters this year and it looks like this movie may have inducted a new generation of fans!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Family Fun
Fans of the sitcom will enjoy this film, in which the Munster family become involved in a series of oddball capers during a trip to England. The British cast members complement the TV cast quite well, making this a very funny film which the entire family can enjoy. Another interesting feature about this film is that, unlike the TV series, it is filmed in color, giving the viewer an opportunity to see the Munsters in all their delightfully ghoulish glory. This one is vastly superior to both the 1981 reunion film "Revenge of the Munsters" and the dreadful syndicated series, "The New Munsters" which has none of the attributes which made the original series a winner. This one boasts the full TV cast (in their prime), a good script, and good direction. Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How Sweet it is
From the groovy credits done in sixties pop-art style to the freak-out ending, this is a film that captures the era right on! "Alone time" for Grif and Jenny Henderson (James Garner, Debbie Reynolds) has been almost impossible for this married couple, what with Grif's job as a photographer having him traveling for photo shoots and raising a teenage son in a time of revolution. There must be some way for the Hendersons to spend some time together. When their son Davey asks to go on vacation to Europe, alone with some other classmates, well of course that's out of the question. . . right? That is unless Jenny can come up with a clever plan so that the whole family can go and make this a much-needed family vacation. And what a vacation this turns out to be! Theft, adultery, imprisonment, divorce! These are but some of the things this movie has in store for you, along with some genuinely funny mishaps that you won't want to miss.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great one-liners in this comedy
James Garner delivers his typically quick and funny one-liners in this comedy movie made during the flower child era. I especially laughed when he was talking about his son with Debbie Reynolds. When she asked why he didn't do things with him anymore, Garner sneered said "we used to build model airplanes together. Now all he wants to do is sniff the glue."

Another time, Garner was in a French restaurant and he told the waiter that he didn't even like French bread.

I recommend this movie, especially at this price. No violence, just good clean fun, 1968 style. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great - But where's the rest!
It's good to see DVD on DVD. The quality of this DVD is decent, however, I'm not sure how or why they chose the six episodes. "The Night the Roof Fell In" and "Never Name a Duck" are the two best on the DVD. I would have preferred more of the classic episodes such as Ghost of A. Chanz, or Coast to Coast Big Mouth. Looking forward to the entire 158 episode set to be released. In the mean time, this one will do!

2-0 out of 5 stars great show, poor copy
there's no question that The Dick Van Dyke Show will always be a landmark in Television Comedy. The stories and characters are as timeless today as when the show premiered 40 years ago. Our only complaint about this Canadian DVD is that the quality is not very good. It seems to be copied from 16mm prints, rather than the original film. It's also only 6 episodes. We have heard that the authorized anniversary edition of all 158 episodes is being released soon and it will be great to see DVD on DVD.

3-0 out of 5 stars Chasin' crumbs of carrots!!!
This DVD is a mere sprinkling of what the actual series has to offer it's fans. Although the quality is far better than the typical VHS copy (from cable) that we are all used to, it's still far from the quality that is possible. It is a real novelty to be able to choose what episode you want with a click from the remote, and not have to edit out commercials etc. Don't expect any extras from this DVD. There are NONE. Then again, this show has always withstood the test of time and technology by having a brilliant story performed by brilliant actors. No glitz, just glamour.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Entertainment
This show never fails to make me smile and any collection would be worth purchasing. I've heard they're going to be releasing all 100some episodes soon, but until then this is the best you can do.

4-0 out of 5 stars Oh, Rob.......
I agree with all of the reviews, in that I would like to have seen many, many more episodes. The Dick Van Dyke Show is absolutely the best way to get that "feel good" feeling. An added bonus is that I can watch it with my children and not cringe wondering what sexual inuendo will be next. The worst thing "Nick at Night" ever did was removing Dick Van Dyke from it's rosters. THIS is classic television! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Lewis Invasion
Four years prior to the release of this film, America had exprienced the "British Invasion" with the Beatles, in "Don't Raise the Bridge", American Icon Jerry Lewis invades England.

After sixteen successful years with Paramount, Jerry Lewis ventured over to Columbia Pictures. "Don't Raise the Bridge..." was one of his first "gun for hire" films and he had nothing creatively to do with it (and it shows, it lacks the warmth and humor of "The Nutty Professor", "The Ladies' Man", and his several other solo classics. Nevertheless, it has some good moments, and the song performed by Danny Street at the opening is full of words to live by.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jerry Lewis the great in a mature responsible (?) role
Jerry Lewis the great in a mature responsible (?) role or is it? Don't know what it is but this movie pulled it off very charmingly to become a classic hidden gem in comedy movies.
It was a pleasure to watch English actor Terry-Thomas, Patricia Routledge,(Keeping Up Appearances), one actor from Fawlty Towers and mature responsible (?) Jerry Lewis- always cooking up his next gig..
Hilarious comedy recommended for late night viewing so you don't miss out very intricate plot..:)

1-0 out of 5 stars A Low point for Jerry....
Don't Raise the Bridge....is one of the worst Jerry Lewis movies. It's 'plot' is plotless and the situation style comedy doesn't work for Jerry here.

Being released in 1968, this film appears to be Jerrys attempt to be more contemporary and click with theatre goers changing tastes in the late 60s. He was not really involved with the production as he was with the majority of his films. He has stated himself that he did this film for verteran TV director/actor Jerry Paris because it was financially appealing. The results are very uninspired.

This is not to say that Jerry can't be contemporary and he is a joy in a film like Three on a Couch, however this one is as much of a misfire as Way Way Out, Hook Line and Sinker, and Which Way to the Front?.....Hey, they can't ALL be good.

Hopefully Columbia will release the rest of his output and its kind of a shame that they chose this rather weak title as their first DVD release. The Big Mouth is a much funnier and better paced film and is easily the best film he made after 1965. Hopefully they aren't going to gague sales of this title as a determining factor for future releases as this one is IMO strictly for Jerry Lewis completists. ... Read more

Callahan. ... Read more
