4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet little family movie to pass the evening
Man of the House is a sweet little film. It's great for children without being drudgery for their parents to sit through. Jonathan Taylor Thomas plays Ben, a child afraid of getting emotionally hurt again by the men his mother begins dating after his father leaves the two of them alone and heartbroken. Due to Ben's mistrust, he "tests" each of his mother's new potential suitors, and none of them can stand their ground until he comes up against Jack. From there, the rest of the story starts rolling. Man of the House is definitely worth checking out if you're looking for something lighthearted but still-entertaining for the evening. Although, I'm sure the kids would probably enjoy Tom & Huck and Wild America much better since they're both more action-oriented movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jonathan VS. Chevy
Jonathan Taylor Thomas was great one of his best movies. With the sandy-blonde hair and funny but still cute bad attitude who wouldn't like this movie.
Chevy Chase was OK better then Farrah Fawcett but under Jonathan just a little still loved his performance. Chavy gets a 8 out of 10, Farrah gets a 5 out of 10, Jonathan gets a 9 out of 10.
They was all good actors and actress but Farrah and Chevy have made to many movies for an older group unlike Jonathan Taylor Thomas who was at that time still in kid movies.

It is about Jack Sturges (Chevy Chase) has found the woman (Farrah Fawcett) he wants to marry; unfortunately, her precocious, wisecracking son (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) doesn't seem to like him. So Ben (Thomas) tries everything to get Jack Sturges to hide the road but along the way they join the Indian Guides, a sort of bush league Iron John outfit. While participating in silly wilderness rituals, Ben and Jack of course develop mutual respect. And meet up with some of the craziest of people and Ben soon starts to learn Jack isn't going to give up so easy.

Along with George Wendt, Richard Portnow, David Shiner and John Disanti.

I think it is an amazing movie for kids and adults funny, smart, wild, and entertaining for all ages. I loved it and as a 15 year old you know it was a good movie how many 15 year olds do you know that would type all of this on just one movie?

5-0 out of 5 stars loved it
I love Jonathan taylor thomas hes the best! its so funny

2-0 out of 5 stars Man of the House and Travelin Tyke
I dont really like this movie. Kinda like a Home Improvement TV show for 2 hours. Boring and predictable, even for samll children.

1-0 out of 5 stars Charming, likeable family film...dreadful DVD
Even though it's been lambasted by some critics, I think "Man of the House" is one of the finest live-action films Disney has released in the past decade. It's sure to bring a smile to your face, with its memorable characters and genuinely funny moments. Chevy Chase and George Wendt standout in hilarity, and Jonathan Taylor Thomas does great in the lead role.

But, alas, Disney must not want us to buy the films we like on DVD. That must be why they keep releasing them in modified form, rather than the WIDESCREEN aspect ratio that they were created for and exhibited in. So, it's a shame I've been waiting six years for this movie to come to DVD, because it's a garbage Pan & Scan job, just like "Honey I Shrunk the Kids." When will the Mouse House learn? ... 2-0 out of 5 stars 80's movie
Not a bad movie - not a good movie either--

BIG SPOILERS- the whole movie is detailed here,so if you dont
want to know what happens if you have not seen it- don't read!!!

Many people have seen this and have thought of it as retarded-
so it may not be a big problem

About 2 girl and 2 guy teens that hang out together at at Canadian Amusement Park getting to know each other-- and indeed fall in love

But 3 incompetant jewel theives are after a diamond
they hid in a stuffed animal prize at one of the Midway games---

The 3 dumb theives run into these teens at night-
1 of the 2 teen girls has the jewel in her stuffed animal
that the theives are looking for--

The theives chase these teens around the park to get their diamond back as the teens try to outrun them--

Eventually the 3 foolish theives get caught-

And one of the teens who was indirectly involved

by placing his fingers on the case the jewel was in

is let off the hook-- naturally the cops think he was the theif

cause his fingerprints were on the case the diamond was in-

but he was looking at it- and had no intent to steal it--

but the 3 idiots are the ones who really have it--

and so this movie is a retarded romp through an

amusement park---

Beware-- I watched this when i was 8, or 9 with my brother

with the babysitter when my folks were not home because indeed

there are a few shots of FEMALE ANATOMY that may be

objectional!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Second Greatest Movie of All Time
This movie wasn't as good as the first one, which was spectacular, but it's still a good watch. Yune flexes his acting muscles in this fine action/comedy/drama film. If you enjoyed "They Call Me Bruce" then you'll definitely enjoy this one. T-cake also gives a good perfomance. I can't wait for the third installment due out this summer!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST
Don't listen to anyone I tell you, this movie is a really funny movie, you'll die laughing!

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely an insult to the First Movie.
Have you seen over the top?

This movie was an abject horror. I was never so disappointed in a movie since Red Sonja. I felt betrayed and hurt. The child actor from from "Over the Top" (Sylvester Stallone, 198-who cares) reprises his role as the stupid kid that hits his head and limps to the boxing / karate ring to cheer on his favorite hero. What a travesty. The first movie was so good I rented it 10 times. This so called second is no better than William Shatner's directoral debut in Star Trek Five, The Final Frontier, a movie I saw in the theater because I had to, and sits amongst the Island of Misfit movies still in the wrapper. Shame. Shame. What ever went so wrong? And why is it so difficult for me to find a copy of my favorite comedy ever produced, " They call me Bruce." One can only ponder. One can one only ponder. Oh, the madness... oh, the madness.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gloriously Awesome film
No matter what Leonard Maltin says or what a viewer from California says, this film is a classic of its own kind. I've watched this film about a hundred times since like 1990 when I got a dub of it somehow, and I've loved it evry time. It's not really *that* serious, and I guess many consider it cheesy, but that's what's so fun about it! It really is a laugh-fest. So give it a chance! I recommend it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the first one.
This movie wasn't horrible. It was just lacking the humor of the first one. "They Call Me Bruce" was a laugh-riot. "They Still Call Me Bruce" was a little more serious, and just didn't come off as well. He was supposed to be a wanna-be Bruce Lee, hurting himself more than those around him, and winning by luck alone. If they had released it on it's own, and not as "They still call me bruce", I feel it would have done better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars See this movie!
With so many studios using the word "classic" quite liberally nowadays, it's hard to really know anymore. This movie really passes the test. It stars Michael Caine as Mr. Destiny, and Jim Belushi as Larry Burrows, who gets to experience what life could have been. He gets everything he dreamed of, but soon finds out it's not all it's cracked up to be. Linda Hamilton and Jon Lovitz give great supporting performances, this is movie is a gem!

4-0 out of 5 stars Go forward with your life!
Mr. Destiny is not only fun entertainment, it deals with the question every person asks at some time in their life: How would my life be different now if only I had....? James Belushi charmingly plays the man who lost his job, and finds himself wishing he could change his past and start over. He finds his chance to do just that after a little magical intervention by Mr. Destiny (Michael Caine). With just one change in his past...from losing the big baseball game, to winning it, Belushi's life takes a different path. Suddenly plopped into his new life, with a different wife and a different job, he encounters many troublesome adventures...humorous for the viewer, but disastrous for Belushi. Just at the point of hopelessness, Mr. Destiny intervenes again, but I won't give away anymore of the plot here. I loved Belushi's character... in spite of his troubles, he confronts all situations with grace and humor. The movie is sweet, funny, and even carries an encouraging message: Don't regret the past, but go forward and make the best of what you've got!

2-0 out of 5 stars sticky sweet
Interesting premise, gets bogged down in complete fantasy. Not even believable for what it is. Second half of the movie is out right ludicrous, with stale pollyannish dialogue. Belushi is one of the rare lights in this dim bulb of a film.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Swung too late?"
Only James Belushi can take a formula story and turn it into a fun to watch script. Even when you know how it will turn out in the end, the details and how they evolve are fun to watch over and over. And there is a great supporting cast. You could tell where this movie was going when Jewel Jagger (Courteney Cox) threatens to fork Larry Burrows (James Belushi) to death.
Larry Burrows is unhappy with his life and pins most of it on the fact that he swung too late and misses t the ball in a game and in life. Michael Caine as Mr. Destiny gives Larry a new chance be the person he wanted to be. But will he like his new life?

The soundtrack is still available Mr. Destiny (1990 Film)

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Fight Your Destiny
Is this movie trying to implying that it's bad to be a greedy, maniacal corporate leader without conscience or empathy? C'mon, get outta here. They could not possibly think THAT up in Hollywood, could they? Well, Mr. Destiny, played by Michael Caine, offers James Belushi a chance to be a wealthy corporate hot shot instead of a regular James. As you can imagine, it does not work our well for James. You know, self-loathing, John Lovitz (a friend) almost commits suicide--the usual stuff. The movie has funny moments, and the pace is pretty good. The ending is somewhat predictable, James is happy to be a regular James (again). It's not all about the money. I don't blame him, I wouldn't wanna be a Kenneth Lay either. ... Read more
