3-0 out of 5 stars First in series of "silly-ha-ha" comedies
When the police department lowers its academy entrance requirements, the stage is set for some "Animal House" antics among the new misfit recruits. This uneven, adolescent romp primarily pokes fun at authority figures ("We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister would be the perfect theme song here). Some of the comedy moments are actually funny, but the jokes are mainly "high school boys room" material, crude and commonplace.

Steve Guttenberg heads the cast of young recruits. He tries hard to get expelled, but constantly bounces back. This "groundbreaking comedy" is followed by 5 (YES five!) sequels, all spiked with more sophomoric gags and childish humor. The series was a huge box office success in Europe (especially Germany!).

Made for kids, yet rated R (go figure!). This "comedy" will appeal to 12 year olds, but anyone past the pimple-age will find this film a little beaneath them.*** ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars everybody lies
Writer/director Ron Oliver's thriller doesn't break any new ground but it's diverting if ultimately forgetable entertainment. Shannon Tweed stars as the mother of a 16 year old boy who has been traumatised by the accidental death of his father, a stuntman who failed to survive a jump over Niagara Falls. Oliver gives us a witty editing cut from the boy screaming to a car alarm, which clues you that this isn't going to be a deep psychological drama. I also liked a psychiatrist's comment to Tweed's concern over her son being institutionalised - "We've paved over the snake pits"- and one scene where it is the psychiatrist who rests on a couch while the boy talks. Since we are told that the father was beheaded in the fall, that may explain the son's collection of doll's heads which he keeps in a fish tank. When truckie David Keith marries Tweed, their wedding cake amusingly made in the shape of a truck, and then Joseph Bottoms appears as Keith's brother, the signs indicate more trouble is ahead, especially since Keith sports a ponytail and Bottoms an earring. The boy begins to have visions of a woman in a red car, and you can bet that she leads him back to the Falls. As the boy Nicholas Shields is all big eyes, but his sheepishness in reaction to Bottoms' attempt at seduction is funny, and Oliver times our sight of Bottoms in his face pack superbly. Oliver encourages Bottoms, Kathleen Robertson as a girl who befriends Shields, and Christopher Plummer doing a parody of Peter Falk's detective, to overplay, and he even gets a reasonable performance out of Tweed, who for once isn't used as a sexpot. She has a scene where Bottoms torments her with a duck glove puppet that is more comic than serious. The setting of the climax in a Madame Tussaud's Chamber of Murders has delicious potential but by then we've been exhausted by an extended chase where the outcome has come to be disappointingly inevitable. The plot features a point about a large amount of money, the origin of which is never made clear or rational by the end, and gives the coda an unfunny laugh line, spoken by the character in a totally out of character way. Mention is made of the lovely theme music by Paul J Zaza. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In part 3, the goodlooking boys and girls come out to play!
Eighties horror movies, what would we do without them? Horror movies since the eighties have lost the gore and no budget effects that made them enjoyable to watch. Prom Night 3 achieves everything you could possibly want in a horror movie, goodlooking guys and girls, and did I mention the goodlooking guys?!:) Dylan Neal stars in this movie, and if he's hot now, he was certainly smoldering then!

The movie does have a certain budget look to it, but the story is straightforward and enjoyable, not to mention some of the best death scenes ever! I would really recommend this movie, and I would suggest inviting a few mates over, so you can have a laugh with the death scenes. Positively gory, but very well done. Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great movie, stupid ending!
If it weren't for the ending, I would have rated it 5 stars, but as many times before, the ending destroys a movie. But to the film. This is horror/comedy, so don't expect to be scared. But it has gore, and the one scene where Alex is running naked in the hall, reminds me strongly about Mr.Bean(! ) This time another Prom Queen return from the dead, and fall in love with one of the present students. But how far are they willing to go for love? Buy it, and find out.

2-0 out of 5 stars this has got to be the stupidest movie ever made!
what? What? How could anyone give this movie five stars. It was the worst movie ever made. How could they take the prom night franchise and turn it into some lame horror movie. It's ridiculous. The plot was dumb and pointless and the one-liners absolutely not funny. The movie was a disgusting mix of sex and violence, that tried to hard to be funny and failed. this is definitely the most pointless movie and the worstsequel ever. DUMB! just plain dumb! The ending completely ruined even the few(1 or two) good parts in the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mary Lou Maloney, ruthless killer, comedy queen???
In this blood-soaked title, Mary Lou escapes from hell and returns to the high school for more carnage. Enter the afore mentioned "teen hunk". Mary Lou attempts to kill him but falls in love with him first. Following a night of passion with the ghost and finding himself in a "compromising" situation (lacking his clothes), Alex is caught in a web of murder, thanks to his new squeeze the ghost of Mary Lou. The actress that portrays Mary Lou is very talented but she dosent capture the flavor of the character. This movie starts a downhill slide for the series turning it into a 2hr. hack-n-slash fest. Take my advice and consider prom night 2 first, that is if you havent seen it. this movie is best described as a comedy with it's guts ripped out and exposed. ... Read more
