5-0 out of 5 stars They fought and never look back
Fatal Fury the movie is one of a kind anime mix with a video game. Street Fighter is still the other anime that I like because bringing the favor into the character is wonderful. Terry is the calm, street fighter, Andy is stressed out because of Mai, Joe acts like a bonehead and Mai is a bit pighead sucking up to Andy to protect her. When one of the pieces of "Armor of Mars" was founded by "Laocorn" he plans to use all six pieces to become a god. Not only that his twin sister Sulia asked Terry to help her brother to be free of the cruse. Terry and his team went on to find the armor to prevent Laocorn to be controled by the armor. Fatal Fury action, drama, and some comedy to impress the fans. Special apperances by Kim Kapwhan, Duck King, Billy Kane and others from FF2. What makes also makes this movie special is the song "Oh Angel" at the credits. sounds romatic.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like Anime, But this Movie!
After Fatal Fury 1: Legend of the Hungry Wolf, and Fatal Fury 2 this third installment was a welcome addition to the series. Picking up where the second left off it takes our heroes into the hardest fight they have encountered yet; an new emerging mad man equipped with the armor of Mars.

Despite dragging a little bit in the middle this movie has high paced action mixed in with great directing calls by Masami Obari. With a plot worthy of a Greek Tragedy, Terry Bogard yet again struggles with both the finding of a new love and the struggling question of why he fights. Is it because he knows no other life or because he protects those around him? Subtle innuendos like that run through the movie and help to make it what it is. A story of four incredible fighters in a quest to help a complete stranger save her brothers' life and quite possibly his soul.

High paced figths, well thought plot, and well designed characters both good guy and bad guy alike, this is well worth adding to your video collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do You REally Want Anime? Buy This!!!!!!
For those old that remeber animes like Robotech or maybe relative new animes like Evangelion or Magick Knight Rayearth, well they are great But this Fatal Fury Anime is The God Of The Animes, Mixes all Adventure,Action,Martial Arts,SciFi Power Battles, and a Great Story, Indiana Jones wold be Jealousy if he saw at this anime and the adventure story in it, and the personality of the characters is very well made comparated to the game story, if u are a fan or not of Fatal Fury Games u will Love this DVD, last to add is that if u are smart and wannna keep a great video Anime in your DVD colection u will buy this for sure

5-0 out of 5 stars IF only Hollywood could be this good
It is pretty much a solid fact that most Video Game movies tend to suck. Even in the Anime world there are some that are at best Mediocre, however despite some criticism this is truely one of the better action Anime videos available, as well as Video Game inspired.

The story is that Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, and Mai get recruited by this frightend girl Sulia to stop her Brother Lalcorn from gathering the armor of Goddamous, and ancient God back in the Days of Alexander the Great. Throughout the movie they search for clues as other Warriors get taken out in the meantime. Eventually the four of the Square off against Lalcorn and his Henchmen in an action packed finally.

This movie did what hollywood could not, capture the essence of the video game inside the movie and create an incredible story around it. To date from my personal viewing the only other Anime series to date that has done this task was Street Fighter 2V. If you are just getting into Anime, or an Action Anime fan than this is a title to check into.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome anime
When I first got this movie I had thought I was some kind of sequel to Street Fighter but I was wrong. Fatal Fury was 1 of the best I've seen. This is my second best anime next to the Street FighterII series. Kids who can't really watch a PG-13 movie or R I suggest you shouldn't watch this because there are some blood and gore scenes and a hott shower scene. I hope this was helpful. ... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best OVA!!!!! I Have Yet To See One Better.
Last year I went to an anime store to rent some anime. They had one of those rent two get two free special deals and I couldn't resist. I didn't know about this OVA (Original Video Animation, its not a series, nor a movie, it has a budget somewhere in between and its made specifically for the home video market, going straight to release. In this case a real shame.), I noticed it because of the character of Orgun in the front cover, a mechanoid that reminded me much of Teknoman Slade or as he's known in much of the world Tekkaman Blade.
Anyways I wasn't too interested until I read the back of the DVD case, and I learned about this great sci fi story. Forget about all the sci-fi American live action movies you've ever seen, their all horrible, with no real story to tell, yeah, you heard me, when you compare them to Detonator Orgun that is. There's no competition, Detonator Orgun takes the cake. When I saw the first part of it I was blown away. All I could keep thinking was: "Damn I can't believe he did that, I've never seen anything like that." Sure many would say it doesn't look like the real thing, and the animation compared to current anime is poor, but when the action gets going, you just shut up, and you know its real.
While in our western culture its all about the Judeo/Christian ideas of good versus evil, the eastern Hindu/Buddhist culture expressed in many anime is all about the balance at the core of everything, the balance between good and evil, nature and machines, and life and death, really an advance way of thinking. Such a dichotomy between the western and the eastern ways of thinking is interesting to look at, you might notice it in the anime.
This anime (Forget about traditional animation.) has got one of the most complicated, Mythic Nietsche Freudian symbolic stories of all time, about the truth behind the human spirit, well if you're a real college student you'll notice what I'm talking about.
Continuing on, the story is so good it puts American live action movies to shame and makes our animation look like dirt, yep it really does, it shows us the future, that the way things are going anime from Japan will eventually do away with American animation, we are so damn behind them with our made for kids animation, its pathetic. Someday maybe even live action movies will go the way of the dinosaurs, replaced by anime inspired live action movies, its already happening with such a movie as the Matrix. Its probably for the best, after all its our fault for not even trying to dish something that even comes close, yeah you heard me.
At first I had an inkling that the story was going to be like that of Tekkaman Blade, but it was way beyond that. This anime is just about three hours long split into three parts, originally each part was on a seperate VHS, lucky for you, now you get the whole thing on one DVD. Each part was done at a different time.
If you compare Orgun to Tekkaman he looks like an older model, even his fighting style is similar, some would call this a rip off of Tekkaman, because of how close the main mechanoids of each series look alike, no kidding they could be related, but in reality, but most of this OVA except for the last part, was done even before the Tekkaman of the 90's debuted in Japan. Its incredible how much Tomaru looks like Blade's brother Saber from Tekkaman. There is, but one instance where you know for sure they are ripping off Tekkaman, but by then you really don't care.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mega Mega Mega Movie
It is the 3 best anime in the world!
Thouse that beat it, is Macross do you remember love? and Macross pluss. Just bye it, you wil love it
!

5-0 out of 5 stars awsome anime
This OAV (original animated video) is exelent. It has great art, story, and characters. Orgun himself is one of the coolest heroes ever. Some people may not like it, but I did. see it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
It is a classic mecha anime, but it is still worth watching, if you like battling mechas then you will love this DVD animation. It is worthing watching, and the action is just amazing. Tomuru is the main character who gets visions and later joins with an alien mecha to fight the invading aliens. The story takes a different twist which makes it very interesting. I recommend watching it.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best mecha anime of the early 90's
Detonator Orgun is the story of a young man (Tomoru) who is facinated by the past and more than a little disenchanted with the bland, safe, and economically driven future world in which he lives. Keep in mind that this was made in the early 90's and the generation X sentiment was on full blast. He escapes this dreary life through the use of a dream manipulator. Basically a futuristic video game that controls dreams, thus simulating any kind of experience the user wishes. During one of these sessions he finds himself interrupted by several menacing shapes, before he can be destroyed though, another being, like the others, rescues him and calls out his name. He has several more dreams like this, each becoming more intense. At the same time, deep in a military complex, a nano-assembler/super computer goes about constructing a machine out of code transmitted down to earth from space. The robot taking shape looks dead like the one that rescued Tomoru in his dreams. While this is going on radar detects a strange meteor, one that changes directions, launching the equivalent of Robotech/Macross mechs the earth people quickly find out they're dealing with a hugely powerful robot. Eventually circumstances place Tomoru in contact with the robot of his dreams, by fusing with it, he faces off against the invader and learns his purpose in the whole ordeal. That's about the first third of the story, the rest goes on to flesh out the characters and generally explain one of the coolest sci-fi plots. This show had super fluid fight scenes, backed by some of the most exciting music composed, and the sound f/x are great. I'm not sure if there are really any shows like this anymore, Soul Taker might be close, but I have yet to see that. In some ways it reminded me of the anime Guyver, though much much much better. Mecha fans take note though, this show has awesome epic action. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Masami Ohbari 's Best (in my opinion)
From the creator of Fatal Fury and Battle Arena Toshinden, this is one of the three video game titles that have been made into an anime from the same maker. While if you were to line up the three, most people would probably pick Fatal Fury because of its stretched out storyline and lovable characters. I, myself, prefer Gowcaizer overall because it offers great fighting, and some of the more top-of-the-line animation sequences in all of anime. Ok, so the characters look a little strange at times (over-sharp, too much detail), but if you give the development of the characters time, then you can overlook some of the poorer things about this movie.

Also, this movie is known for its ....well...."women"... For some reason, incest was used for two cases in this movie (between brother and sister), which is a little gross, but I could overlook it for the rest of the movie's good sides. Fan Service is probably a leading factor why guys will buy this movie, but for me it was the animation and fight scenes.

But all good things can't go without flaws! The DVD itself was very poor looking. Confusing at times too! You will find yourself in a maze when you enter the chapter selection menu, and the title menu is just three selections (language, chapter selection, other) with a giant "G" (for Gowcaizer) in the background. Very little effort was put into this DVD as far as menus were concerned. But I look on the bright side...some DVDs don't even have menus!! So I guess as long as they made an attempt I can live with it.

Overall, if you are into any of the following:

1. Fan Service
2. Good animation
3. Semi-good storyline
4. Masami Ohbari's other works

Then I reccomend you pick this one up...

5-0 out of 5 stars Good anime.
Many people may pass this off as generic. Well, I'll agree that it's generic, but it still doesn't make this a bad movie. In fact, it's probably the best video game-based anime out there next to Fatal Fury. Excellent artwork, good dubbing, and a pretty good techno soundtrack are in this movie. Any fan of video-game based anime should buy this. To clear up a statement, the movie isn't rated R. It's unrated. It'd probably be a PG-13.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's pronounced Go-kye-Zer.
This review is for the newly released DVD of Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer: The Movie, NOT the old out of print DVD of the 3 volume OVA. I have not seen the OVA version, so I cannot explain any of the differences between the two. If anyone could write a review stating the differences that would rule.

If you've seen Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, you know what to expect here. In fact Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer is based off another lesser known Neo Geo fighitng game of the same name. The movie starts off a bit slow and confusing, but it kicks into high gear once the the first fight begins, and from then on it's just a truly great anime. Lots of fighting, great animation, and tons of fan service (with a HUGE abundance of bounce). Unlike another reviewer though I won't say this is better than Fatal Fury. I really like this movie, but FF is truly a classic. I will say that VFG is 10000x better than the Battle Arena Toshinden anime though.

Both English and Japanese languages are available, and while SOME of the subtitles are different than the dub, it's not much of a difference and I think the sub is just mostly a script of the dub. This was originally made back in the mid 90s when dubbing wasn't usually as good as it is these days, but I've definetly heard worse.

The DVD also has a few extras like a trailer for VFG, a japanese music video, a japanese promo for the OVA version of VFG (totally useless extra, don't even bother watching it), and of course previews for other animes. The picture and audio quality were also top-notch. No complaints at all about the DVD quality, and I hear the old DVD of the OVA was much worse.

I'm very glad they put this out on DVD finally and really advise anyone who is into this stuff to pick it up. If you liked Fatal Fury at all you have to have this, and if you like anime in general you should also consider checking this one out.

5-0 out of 5 stars It has what others don't
I bought this anime because I saw it a few years back and was put in awe by it. It had a great story, great animation, and even some nice english dubbing that puts many other titles to shame. I've seen quite a few anime, and by far this is the best.
I rented most of the other titles because I'm fairly cheap, but this one made me shell out money for the VHS and it was worth every cent! It contains just about everything, but nothing too explicit. For teenagers and up.

4-0 out of 5 stars Weird yet interesting
If you enjoyed other martial arts anime, this one would not make a bad addition to your collection. The movie has a very intersting and odd storyline (with different characters all fighting the same enemy on their own). The story can sometimes be confusing but that does not take away from this OVA in any way. The animation, charater design, and fight scenes are on par with fatal fury. This is truly an awesome DVD, but I just wish there was more of it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 80's cyberpunk rock video mecha girl classic
Future post-earthquake Tokyo has all-powerful corporation Genom taking complete control, were it not for interference from a vigilante mercenary super hero girl group called the "Knight sabers".

This is one of the best anime series projecting beautiful, sexy women in a non-degrading way. The Knight Sabers leader (Dr. Stingray) is a super-genius who designed (and keeps improving) the hard suits which are the only thing that can defeat Genom's android fighting units. Anime pinup idol Priss, the toughest one, is as daring on a motorcycle as she is beautiful. Linna is a great athlete while Nene is a computer hacker. Inter-personal relationships between these 4 are done really well.

There are lots of fighting scenes for those into that, but the story is really about the state of society (a possible future for us) and why the girls put their buts on the line and try to change what they can.

The music is like what MTV used to play, back when they actually played music videos. Those really into this (Or fans needing to see more of the Knight Sabers in action) will love the "Hurricane Live" bonus DVD. Kind of nostalgic, but not obnoxious as some 80's revival stuff tends to be.

Overall this MegaSeries is a great value with all 8 "OAV" episodes in this box set. The animation is a bit dated compared with more recent releases, but the story line is still better than most recent releases.

Anime doesn't get much better than this. A must for "best of class" collectors. (Word on the 'net is that this OAV series is superior to later derivatives).

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have '80s Anime!!!
This DVD presents the first three episodes of the Bubblegum Crisis series. The first episode presents the post-earthquake world of MegaTokyo in 2032, with Genom Corporation's Boomers wreaking havoc in the city, and a band of four women (the Knight Sabers) in hardsuits protecting the innocents. The second episdoe focuses on one of the women, Linna, and a close friend who is targeted by a Genom executive. In the final episode, the conflict between Genom and the Knight Sabers escalates.

The series, inspired by Blade Runner and itself a tremendous influence on following anime, is full of fast-paced action and incredible music. This DVD provides anime newcomers with an excellent introduction to the world of anime.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT
This is one of the pioneering shows of Anime! I remember shelling out $35 to $40 for ONE tape! Blech..what a rip off! But it got me hooked on the "Knight Sabers"! This show is fun and shows it's age with the clothes they wear etc but is a GREAT show and is the BEST in the series. If you are a fan buy THIS edition, the casing is junky as its a big clunky box with plain ol jewel cases etc but its well worth the price alone for fans of the show. The characters were done very well in this show amidst some sillyness, but not as silly as the new show 2040.

5-0 out of 5 stars Blade Runner Anime Style
Takes place in the same universe "Bubblegum Crisis", but before Knight Sabers existed. Robots called Boomers, look just like humans, are very intelligent and work in the cities for the humans doing a variety of tasks such as construction, cleaning and even sexual services. Sometimes these robots malfunctioned and ended up killing innocent people. The A.D. Police force was created to destroy malfunctioning boomers. What I liked about this series was the good quality of animation, action, sound fx, and tense story telling, it has all the makings of a great anime. With its futuristic cities and noire over-tone it has a similar look and feel like the movie, Blade Runner. The Boomers are robots that look and act like humans; they are like the Replicants. In a way, the A.D. Police are like Blade Runners. I also enjoyed this anime because the cop, 'Leon' is a good character, and I always wanted some background on him. Blood and gore, nudity, for adults only. Each episode is self contained so you can watch any of them and not feel lost in the story. Ends on 3 then connects with the anime Bubblegum Crisis 2030

5-0 out of 5 stars I want my bubbleguMTV
As you should know, most of J-pop and MTV music video are worthless. Then, how surprising that Hurricane Live, which features songs in music video format with images culled from the series Bubblegum Crisis, comprises some of the best pop songs and cool visuals ever.
For admirers of Bubblegum Crisis it's a well-known fact that the series is great on many levels, not least in its musical department. Songs range from hard rock to love ballads, from catchy pop tunes to elegiac lamentations. Also, the singer for the first Hurricane Set, Omori Kinuko, had a truly rare quality, almost extinct in today's pop music culture: a quality simultaneously tough and vulnerable, fierce and gentle.
Songs like Mad Machine are as thoughtful and complex in laying out sci-fi themes of technology out of hand; other songs are about being lonely in a faceless crowd, the irrepressible life spirit, the romance of rebellion, sad love for a lost friend, the power to overcome hopelessness and face the new day.
Comparable to Beatles' Rubber Soul, Stone's Between the Buttons, and Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. ... Read more

Comparable to Beatles' Rubber Soul, Stone's Between the Buttons, and Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. ... Read more
