In Bloodstone, we heard Radu tell Michele that "There is no love between the living and the dead, only hunger." Here in Bloodlust, we see that Radu has indeed fallen for the lovely undead Michele, and confesses to love her forever and ever. Michele, on the other hand, is having a hard time coming to grips with her vampiric self, and though she lustfully drinks from the blood that Radu offers, she vows to hate him forever and ever. Michele's sister Becky and her new boyfriend Mel have followed the two undead lovebirds back to Radu's castle, where Becky swears to free Michele. Teamed up with bumbling local detective Marin and Mel's CIA friend who has a bag full of silver bullets and a cheesy beret, they penetrate the castle to rid the town of Radu's evil presence. What follows is confrontation after confrontation; Radu and Mummy, Radu and Michele, Michele and Becky, until the movie culminates with a wild escape from the castle and the reappearance (briefly) of Radu's miniature gargoyles. Of all the subspecies movies, Bloodlust is my favorite. Some secrets are revealed in this installment about Radu's heritage, we see a tender but brief moment with Radu, and there is more humor here than the previous two movies. Again, if you are a vampire purist and like your vampires nasty, then you are going to love the Subspecies series. Enjoy!
Outside the castle walls,Michelle's sister Becky(Melanie Shatner)rallies forces to save her sister's soul.Embroiled in this bitter struggle are U.S Embassay Agent Mel Thompson(Kevin Blair), But when Radu, aided by his ugly Mummy(Pamela Gordon)and the demonic Subspecies, turns his love against her would-be rescuers,a horrific bloodbath ensues and the rescuers realize that it's not just Michelle's fate at stake......but thier own! This is the best movie and must be seen. RATED R for Gore,Violence, and Brief Nudity. ... Read more

Radu is a vampire of the old school, he doesn't want to fit in with the living or find true love or apologize for what he is; he is a vampire and seems to be pretty taken with himself on that level. Our first introduction to Radu is when he kills his father in order to take possession of the Bloodstone, a vampire family heirloom that allows them to survive a long time without a fresh "meal", and gives them power by drinking from it. Here also we meet the "subspecies", little creatures (make from claymation, not FX) that Radu creates by breaking off his own fingers. They become his tiny minions and assist him in taking the Bloodstone. Meanwhile, three college girls arrive in Transylvania, and stay together at an old monastery nearby the broken remains of Radu's castle home. Also staying at the monastery is Radu's long estranged brother, Stefan. Radu and Stefan have no love for each other, though both seem to be attracted to the lovely Michele. Girls get bit and girls scream, and there is a silly "Festival of the Dead" where everybody puts on paper-mache masks, a little bit of nudity, and in the end it all boils down to human vs vampire as do all good vampire flicks. What makes Subspecies special is Radu himself. He is pasty white, has great fangs, long clawed hands, sleeps in a coffin, and drools...a LOT. He's also a very messy eater, and moves through the film with that bloody, slimy grin we have all grown to love. In the end, Michele is the only one of the three girls left, and after Radu mixed his blood with hers, his brother Stefan "saves" her by biting her and turning her into a vampire also. Lovely ending...but remember that there are three more movies... So far, the first three Subspecies movies are only available as used VHS tapes, often costing a great deal of money. The fourth movie is already out on DVD, so hopefully the rest will be soon. Even on VHS, there is a nice "behind the scenes" feature at the end of the tape, along with previews of other Full Moon productions. If you are a vampire purist, you should love this film. Enjoy!

Unfortunately, there are bad movies, then there are movies that are just plain *bad.* This one's just *bad.* You can tell it's horrible because of the little stars around the word *bad.* There's bad acting, no plot, and everything else that makes a good bad movie, but this one took itself seriously and really tried to be a good movie that would appeal to "urban youth" (the rock bands they feature every two minutes are so bad that hard-core '80s metal fans would look the other way in disgrace). Stay away from this one, buckeroos.

The plot basically centers on four college age kids who spend, or attempt to spend a night in a St. Francisville plantation. These four are: Madison, Paul, Tim, and Ryan. By the way, Madison is psychic. After an informational beginning, in which the true story of Madame Lalaurie is told, we finally came to the house. While exploring the house, some very interesting things happen. A chadelier falls as the team leaves an anonymous room. The ghost is obviously a fan of Phantom of the Opera. Then while in the attic a light mysteriously flickers, and a chair hurls itself across the attic. Creepy. After an interesting Ouija board session with a spirit named Charlie, and a few cold spots and closing doors, Madison decides the team should cleanse the house. With the "white light of heaven" no less. Unfortunately some of the spirits of the house aren't to happy about this, included a tortured slave, and supposedly Madame Lalaurie herself. (gasp) This is one of my favorite horror films of all time, mainly because I am one of those silly people who have trouble deciding whether or not the movie was real. At any rate Madison's new world psychic crap certainly makes her character believable. The other characters, if they are actors, certainly portray fear well. And for those of you who dislike the ending I'll say this much. It definetly got my attention.
Things finally start to get rolling after the group visits the attic. When the group splits up, the movie is at its best; just being creepy enough to stay within the "this isn't a movie but real" mold. There are the usual cliches and the acting can be described as amateurish, but at least it fits in with the premise that these are supposed to be normal people. I honestly felt like this movie tried, it's a far better attempt at a film than the cookie cutter action flicks or romantic comedies that Hollywood seems to think we never get enough of.

This movie is not to be taken seriously in any way, shape or form. Serious film seekers stay away at ALL costs!! This film is a time- killer, plain and simple. A rainy day, nothing better to do kind of movie. In that context, this is a four star movie. This is the type of movie you watch just for the expierence of watching it. I forewarn you; at times the dialouge is total cheese, but if you like (a) science fiction or (b) to watch strange films about 10 people have seen before (or a mix of both) either rent it or watch it on t.v. Who knows, you may be one of the few who wants to own it!

The Horrible Dr. Bones is the story of a voodooish D.J. who wants to take over the world through subliminal messages mixed in music. While all the actors in the film did a great job, the amount of music squeezed into the film really took away from any type of story development. Halfway through the film you feel like you are watching a promo video for the record company (soundtrack is available). The film itself could have been so much more interesting if they didn't stock so much music in it. It was interesting to see a horror film geared for the black demographic. There are so few out there (how many films have heavy metal soundtracks with all white teenagers?). I really enjoyed what this could possibly develop into for the genre. Music and horror do compliment each other, so by now targeting an entire new fan base, Alchemy Entertainment hopefully will succeed in recruiting new fans of horror that previously had no interest in it. The DVD had some technical issues. While the music sounded great and was nice and loud, the vocal track was too low. It was hard to hear the actors. If you turned up the volume to hear it, the next time music was played, it was too overpowering. Also, while not really an issue, the DVD is mislabelled on the disc. A double sided disc, the film is on one side and 45 trailers are on the other (most of Full Moon's catalogue). When I placed the film in I could only access the trailers, I flipped it over and the film was on the other side. Basically they accidentally reversed the labels. Overall an interesting film, if only they'd cut back on the push to sell their soundtrack music.
Bottom line: A good watch. ... Read more
