5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie! John Ritter gives an excellent performance!
Rush out and get this one! John Ritter is excellent in this action/ adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Project
This extraodinary explosive film get 5 stars for originality and intense action fighting scenes. Olivier Gruner gives a non-stop spectacular performance and continues to shock and amaze. With the action, fighting scenes, and overall plot, this movie rates very high on my list.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great performance of Olivier Gruner
The performance of Olivier Gruner was an impressive one. There's a compromise with Steven Seagal. "Olivier why are you still playing in the independant video-scene?" Please give me a website of his fanclub or more information to write him personally. ... Read more

I found this one on Sci-fi one afternoon and it was intriguing enough to go through three different video stores to find it. Drew delivers a very good, believable performance. Throughout the movie, she keeps us in suspense, wondering whether the doppelganger truly exists or she is suffering from MPD (multiple personality disorder). Her supporting cast members also perform well but she definitely stands above them. The movie is not an award-winner by any means but the acting is good and the story, which is very well written, covers a subject that is refreshingly different...there are not many movies out there on the supernatural element of doppelgangers.

Drew barrymore plays holly gooding, she kills her mum at the very begginning [Her also real mum]. Holly has a double. It gets two stars for the unintentional comedy. Other than that, it's one of the worst of the ultra-cheesy, predictable, low-budget horror movies from the early nineties. 5-0 out of 5 stars Cop Corruption of Another Kind . . . WOW!: Shocked&Impressed
Viewed this just yesterday and I have to have it for myself on DVD. This is "Internal Affairs" & "The Corruptor" combined, but taken to another level--this movie (as unethical, debased, avaricious, secular, materialistic, brutal and downright sinister as it is) was entertaining, gripping, powerful, fast-paced, bold, funny and educational. Educational from a criminal or subjective point of view. The main character did lots of foolish and crazy things, but you may also come to realize he was pretty intelligent, nimble and brazen. Not a movie to be viewed by kids, but great adult action and entertainment. Mario van Peebles gave a superb performance...and he's not at all one of my favorite actors. If not for the wayward, perverse and twisted nature of this movie, you would have heard more about this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Power-packed thirll ride, intense, funny and fabulous
Up until the end of this turbo-feuled film I was wondering who was going to make it, who was going to get whom!?! The story of a bad cop with little time left and what he finds he is capable of made me wonder to what lengths a human being will go to validate his life choices before dying. Mario Van Peebles gives his best performance since New Jack City in this intense triangle tale of a man, his ex-partner and his beautiful girlfriend (a stunning and revealing Nicolette Sheridan)and survival of the fittest. A must see (especially since Sheridan has a lot to show off... fast forward to the love scene!). ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Kinda Like The Montauk Project
Michael Biehn is always classic. I bought this movie because I remember seeing it late one night and it was an amazing movie that had some resemblance to The Montauk Project (which isn't a movie to my knowledge yet). Montauk of course I know about from Al Bielek and Preston Nichols. I found the movie to be intriguing for its time. It's a worthy watch. It makes you wonder what our memories are. Biehn's character has false memories that were implanted in his head after being part of a supersoldier program. It's a worthy watch and a worthy purchase. I just wish it was on DVD.

3-0 out of 5 stars eh...
Not sure what everyone is raving about. I watched this movie once, and I was left feeling that they just made a movie for the sake of using some extra film. I thought, "I'll watch it again, maybe I missed something." The second time was no better than the first. I suppose all genres have their followings, but I see no point in this movie. There was no real suspense, the characters, while believeable to a point, are unlikable, and the basis of the movie, a tax collector and a rookie cop, seems sort of [weak] to me. It seems like they threw in the russian mafia as an afterthought. While I was running on the treadmill, someone popped the movie in again, and I couldn't escape the 3rd watching w/o stopping my workout, so now I've seen it a total of 3 times and it's still just as pointless to me.

I'm not saying it's a bad movie. I'm just saying it's the cinematic equal of room temp water.

Give it a try. You might find it more enjoyable than I did.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well done cultural thriller
A solid piece of work from unknown director Avi Nesher, this casts Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix, Bound, Memento) as a federal tax investigator who teams up with rookie Puerto Rican cop Wade Dominguez (City of Industry) to crack a case involving massive tax fraud in the huge Russian community located in Brooklyn, New York.

The two make an intriguing pair. Dominguez shocks the tax investigator, as well as the audience, by speaking excellent Russian, and Pantoliano is just world-weary enough to know that there is a whole lot of corruption going on behind the scenes--and provides a film noirish running commentary on his thoughts through the story. But this works well; the commentary is definitely not overdone, and in fact, it provides a welcome added layer that substantiates Pantoliano's character.

Michael Chiklis plays Andre Rubakov, the genial Russian owner of a group of gas stations who is being threatened by Casey Siemaszko's Abrasha Topolev, a slimy Russian gangster. Elizabeth Berkley does much to make up for her disastrous outing in Showgirls as Andre's beautiful daughter, and Robert Townsend is the harried but ultimately helpful Asst. DA who helps the investigating pair track down the real culprits--who've committed murders as well as tax fraud.

This is a very good film that unfortunately got poor distribution; it definitely deserves to be seen. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was so surprised
I was surprised. What a great film. Not only was the film Direction exceptional, but the actors were just amazing. I couldn't believe that was Elizabeth Berkley. What a great performance. She played a perfect Russian.

You've got to see this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Character Study I have seen since the 70's
This movie rocks! The craft of filmmaking is at its absolute best in this wonderful film about a man whose life is unraveling as he tries so desperately to give it some meaning. There is an Al Benjamin in all of us! The acting (Joe Pantoliano, one of the industry's best, and Elizabeth Berkley in a startling performance), the cinematography -- whic ultimately means the direction of the film -- are superior to any movie I have seen in years... Why wasn't this HUGE at the box office? If you missed it (since it was only released in the major cities), rent it or buy it today! (OR check it out on HBO like I did).

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an amazing movie
Joe Pantoliano blew me away - I'd bet the bank on this guy! The movie is about a simple tax collector who, through the course of tracking a tax skimming operation involving the oil industry, proves the depth of the simple, honest yet somewhat (if not often) deranged man. I stopped everything that I was doing when this movie was on the toob and I was transfixed. Wade Dominguez is brillaint as his stuttering NYPD sidekick. This is a movie to be watched over and over - it's got that much gerth! ... Read more
