4-0 out of 5 stars Tea with Mrs. McGill anyone?
OK, who cares if it's "unrealistic." In the very small Hockey Genre this is without a doubt the best of the bunch. Why...because it's entertaining.

Rob Lowe and Swayze at their peak and a goofy first entry by Keanu Reeves gave us a glimpse of things to come. He cant act. The only downside to this flick is the highly irritating "lets get it on and make my dad angry" content but other than that a fun, and sometimes funny film.

The DVD is very very good with 4 stars for both the widescreen video and audio that you can't tell from 5.1. Four stitches.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
Hockey movies are extremely hard to come by, but I think that allows for the few to be the best. Who cares if the plot is predictable; it makes the movie even that more enjoyable. And lets be honest here: the movie is about HOCKEY! What more could you really want out of a movie?!? :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Rob lowe at his best
Rob lowe and Patrick Swayze are awsome toghter. it is the second best hockey movie behind slapshot. its about a kid rob lowe lives on a farm in stanton and get a chance to play JR. A hockey. he gets the last spot on the Hamilton Mustangs. he fall in love with the coaches daughter. so if you like hockey you will like this movie its a classic.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the worst hockey movie ever, but not exactly the best
As much as I wanted to hate a hockey movie with Rob Lowe and Patrick Swayze in it when it came out, it wasn't actually as bad as I thought it would be. The scenes on the ice are laughable, not just for the obscene WWF style fighting (even the minor leagues aren't this bad, and Canadian major junior, while having more fights than in American HS hockey, is nothing like the minor leagues), but with that ridiculous scene with Lowe and Swayze skating around in a circle and passing back and forth to each other. What was actually pretty accurate were all the scenes off the ice (at least the ones involving the team; I won't comment on the stupid love story). The locker room scenes and those in the bars are pretty dead on. Plus, the movie features future NHLers Peter Zezel and Steve Thomas when they were still in juniors as members of Rob Lowe's team (both were playing for the Toronto Marlboros when the movie was filmed). I think Zezel actually has a line! Plus, seeing Keanu Reeves pretend to have a French-Canadian accent is "worth the price of admission" alone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A mission finally completed
Ever since the first time I saw this movie. I wanted to buy it. I have been searching for it for a long time and now I finally found it and bought it without hesitation. It is an awesome hockey movie that is perfect for any hockey fan ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars RDA is too convincing as a bad guy!
This is the first movie I saw without him as the hero - he was perfect! His character manipulated the victim right from their first encounter. I was surprised that the movie didn't explore more into the couple's relationship. It had an R rating, so there was plenty of room to play around here. I will watch it again, when I want to see really great acting and a really "bad" bad guy!

4-0 out of 5 stars Through the Eyes of a Killer
I have to confess I was disappointed in the movie, after reading such positive reiviews. While I think RDAs portrayal of the villian is very well done, I don't think the character as a whole is very well developed. When he 'switches' to his darker side, it is so much of a change and so unexpected that it's not very believable. I think this is the one flaw in a plot that is otherwise very good. Marg Helgenberger is very believable, as are the supporting actors. Since I'm a big fan of RDA, I don't regret watching it, but I don't think it will become one of my 'watched 10x' collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely NOT MacGyver!
As an avid fan of the MacGyver series, I find Richard Dean Anderson superb in this twisted stalker/murder movie...a must to see for anyone who enjoys a good mystery!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW !
I saw this movie on the Lifetime Movie Network. It was fantastic! I never saw RDA play a bad guy before but he was great. Also Marg H (from CSI)!

4-0 out of 5 stars A Fine Job of Acting
I have to admit that I was very surprised when I saw this movie. After seeing Richard Dean Anderson play such a sweetheart of a guy in MacGyver I wasn't sure that he could play the role of a bad guy. But RDA was definitely very convincing in his role. His performance alone is reason enough to see the movie. ... Read more

Gene Hackman is a fighter pilot in Vietnam. When he gets shot down behind enemy lines, he manages to hang on to his radio--and maintains contact with Danny Glover, back at the base. Hackman must rely on his own instincts--and the long-distance assistance of Glover--to work his way back to his own territory. The script, by Marc Norman and William Anderson, can't rise above war-movie clichés and Peter Markle's direction can't lift it. Neither can David Marshall Grant, as an overly passionate copter jockey whose rescue attempt proves more hindrance than help. But crafty veterans Hackman and Glover know a thing or two about transcending mediocre material with performances of depth and humanity. --Marshall Fine ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally on Video!
CBS made a big mistake waiting for more than half a year to air the second season of this great series which facilitated its cancellation. Didn't they know that the average American attention span is 20 minutes? People forgot The Magnificent Seven existed and a show which was a hit in its debut season went into oblivion... Luckily, someone finally released some of it on tape. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The cast features some of my favourite people -- Dale Midkiff as Bud is hillarious, Eric Close (currently on Now and Again, another CBS show you have to see) as Vin is a perfect choice for the part, Michael Biehn fills the shoes of Yul Brinner with aplomb, Ron Perlman is great as always. Anthony Starke is a new favourite of mine after seeing him work wonders as Ezra, the hustler, the card shark, the self-centered ego-maniac. I miss this show and only wish it had been given a better chance. We need more tapes with existing episodes.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Magnificent Seven-a must own video!
The Magnificent Seven (Michael Biehn version) is the best I have seen as far as westerns go in a very long time. An ex-Confederate officer and his army come upon an Indian village, terrorize them and then threaten to return in a few days for gold they believe the villagers to possess. Two of the villagers go to the nearest town to seek/hire men to help them. What I love about this movie are the relationships that developed between the characters, Chris and Vin, Buck and JD, Nathan and Josiah, Chris and Ezra. The movie also conveyed with a few words, their actions or even a look each character's personality, what type of a man each character is, what their dreams are, what haunts them, etc. It has action (some very violent scenes), a little romance, some comedy, a villian of course, but most of all, seven men who become heroes. Michael Biehn's portrayal of Chris Larabee as the leader of this group of men is right on the money. Dale Midkiff is a delight to watch. Eric Close, Anthony Starke, Andrew Korvit, Ron Perlman and Rick Worthy are all wonderful in their portrayal of their individual characters. These seven actors' portrayal of their characters are a great ensemble and complement one another, while at the same time they are also very unique and diverse. I highly recommend this movie. You will not be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's the DVD?
While not a fan of westerns this is a great series. Full of action, great writing and wit, why was this cancelled when there some real rubbish on TV?

Hopefully, someone will have the presence of mind to release this on DVD and then we in the UK can enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Possible Addiction
This is a great movie by itself, but it was an even better lead in to a wonderful, if short-lived series. It has all the guns and scenery of a great western, with much of the grim reality of 'modern' movies. Characters you can really cheer for, and good guys, who sometimes aren't so good. A lot of fun! After this, you may want to watch the whole series...

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
I bought this video for my wife. We both watched it, more than once. My wife is a Michael Biehn fan and I must admit he plays a very good part.
I believe that this is better than the original..... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Next Year We'll Have Uniforms!
Hot Dog The Movie is one of the best films of all time! I watched this movie all through high school and can remember watching all of the classic ski sequences at 5:00 AM while waiting for my friends to pick me up to go skiing. As is true with many others, this movie has become a ritual to get me ready for the ski season. Who else thought Bannana Pants was hot? Who thinks Sunny's thighs were too big? Who thought Squirel Murphy should have had better luck? And one last question: WHERE CAN I FIND THE SOUNDTRACK?

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally!! I thought I'd never see this on DVD
Hot Dog, the Movie.. Best good time ski movie, period. I wore out the VHS tape watching this one. After watching it about 200 times, I confess it is not a grand hollywood masterpiece, but it is a classic in its own right, a one of a kind.

It is absolutely a must see every ski season, not to mention it has more quotable lines then the godfather...

I can't wait to see Harkin "snake legs" Banks tear up the moguls, Dan make his 'leg spreader", Squirrel take his gondola ride cocktail, and Rudy have his breakfast 'sunny side up, sunny side down... ', and how can I forget, Sylvia's ski pointers.

If DVD's can burn out, I am sure this one will.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great movie
skie School is an excelent movie.

1-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic movie, but...
I love this movie. It's fantastic. This movie has everything one could desire in a trashy ski comedy. Nudity, comic violence, cheesy villians, and, of course, CHINESE DOWNHILL!!!

However, I will NEVER buy this DVD until it is available as a widescreen feature. Especially a movie with such cinematic ski scenes; the producers (in their infinite wisdom) have chosen to release it as a pan-and-scan edition. WHY? Why do these things happen to good DVD's? I've seen it before. Companies release bargain (read: cheap) DVD's to sell quickly, but do not bother to re-master the movies properly. Warner Brothers did a lot of this sort of thing in the early days of DVD, they just churned out movies that were popular 5 - 10 years ago hoping for some rejuvenation. I just cannot buy a feature that has a 1.33:1 ratio unless it was originally in that format (such as a TV programme).

By the way, make sure to check out the South Park episode, Asspen, which skewers Hot Dog...the Movie and many other sports movies from the 80's.

Keep fighting against fullscreen releases of movies!!!
If they really want a fullscreen version, they can release BOTH.

4-0 out of 5 stars Would have given it a 5 but.........
Ok this movie is tight, I admit it. If you are a fan of skiing and sex its like ur greatest fantasy. Shannon Tweed is totally hot in this flick doin what she does best(if you've seen some of her other stuff you know what I'm talkin about)And the action is also pretty tight. There are two reasons I gave it a 4. 1 is because I think it should have had one or two more party scenes is it, and a few less skiiing scenes. The other reason is the sport of choice. I love winter sports, boarding, mobiling,..... but not so hot about skiing. Sorry guys but a real athlete works without poles. But other than that it was a pretty good movie. ... Read more

In the tradition of National Velvet, this Nova Scotia-set family film revolves around a 13-year-old with a passion for horses. Like Elizabeth Taylor’s Velvet, Virginia (Lindze Letherman) even has an older sister, Caroline (Rachel Skarsten). Sadly, her mother was killed in a riding accident three years ago and her father, Ford (Gabriel Byrne), has since forbidden Virginia to ride. Nonetheless, she’s been visiting Twister in secret and is even with her when she gives birth to a foal. Virginia names him Stormy and he takes to her from the start, but to no one else--including owner Blake Raines (Robert Guy Miranda). So Blake sells the horse and Virginia is heartbroken. How is she going to compete in the Memorial Day endurance race? And where does Blake's new trainer, Jessie (Joanne Whalley), fit into the picture? Those questions--and others--will be answered before the end of this heartwarming adventure. --Kathleen C. Fennessy ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Directors are not horse people....
Ok, call me crazy, call me anything you feel fits, but this
movie drove me bonkers!I grew up w/ horses, and thus am a
horseperson. And the first thing a true horseperson will notice is that Stormy, the foal that is born, is NOT a newborn foal.Couple things that suggest this: 1.) there's no sac around him as he's coming out.2.) he's to big, and 3.) He stands not even 2 minutes after he comes out.NO newborn foal stands that quickly and is able to walk.I've seen plenty of foals born, and they all try several times before succeeding in standing.
Another thing, after his mother passes, he wouldn't have survived.A newborn needs the mother's milk within the first hour or so after being born, w/out they'll die, or be very sickly.
One more thing I need to vent about, so bear with me.It says 2 years later after Stormy is a foal. When they show him again...um I'm sorry, but that ain't no 2 year old...That horse had to be 5 or 6, 4 possibly. He was too filled out. Also, there is no way a 2 year old could run a 50-mile or so endurance race.2 year old thoroughbreds only run a mile at most in races, and only 2-3 times that year. The horse would have not have been able to do what the horse in the movie did.
I'm sorry if I ruined this movie for you, but it really bugs me.I hate it when people decide "oh hey let's make a horse movie" but they don't know a thing about horses. And I realize not many people would care that much, but I do, it's just something that bugs me, we all have things that bug us, people who don't know what the heck they're doing bug me....to be more specific, Directors who don't know the first thing about horses!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Drama, Plenty of Excitement
After Virginia's (Lindze Letherman) mother is killed in a freak riding accident, her father (Gabriel Byrne) sells the offending mare, Twister, and forbids Virginia to ever ride. But you know kids - they don't listen! When Twister later gives birth to a foal, Virginia breaks the ban and grooms Twister's offspring to compete in the big Memorial Day 50 Mile Endurance Race.

Gabriel Byrne is good in these kinds of movies (see: Into the West) and it's not perfect, but Virginia's Run is entertaining enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not an excellent VN war flick, but still one you should see
High octane action and the perseverance of some of the leads elevate "Bat-21" to that higher level of Vietnam movie. Basically the story of how a high-level intelligence officer eludes capture after being shot down behind enemy lines in Vietnam, "Bat-21" is relentless and never exploitative. Hackman is Iceal Hambleton, a USAF colonel who fights the war in Vietnam from the offices and golf courses of Saigon. Tasked to identify communist missile sites, he boldly (and unwisely) tags along on an EB-66, an unarmed electronic warfare bird loaded with intelligence equipment. The sole survivor after being shot down, Hambleton finds himself pursued by the enemy who apparently appreciate his value as a prisoner. While the enemy (was it the NVA or the Cong? I could never tell) is unable to find Hambleton, they prove more than capable of making life hell for the rescue choppers sent to rescue him - including the crew of a "Jolly Green" cut to pieces over an enemy-held village. While on the ground, Hambleton stays in contact with Bart Clark (Danny Glover), a USAF captain who flies spotter missions for more heavily armed bombers. (Clark flies FAC - from his slow-moving Cessna, he finds targets for the strike fighters, marking them with white-phosphorous rockets). Knowing that the enemy is monitoring them, Hambleton and Clark work out a code that posits the map of Vietnam as a big golf course. As rescue attempts become more dangerous, Clark finds himself drawn ever deeper into the rescue, climaxing in his going rogue when his superiors throw in the towel.

"Bat-21" isn't really a classic. There's plenty of thrilling action, and the script even manages to find room for irony (as when Clark pauses during a radio conversation with Hambleton while he zaps a few communist troops). Still, nothing really convincingly explains how Hackman manages to elude capture...by anybody (the script makes clear that he is definitely no Rambo). The film also breezes over the biggest irony - that Hackman's code is based on his smarts on the golf course rather than the battlefield. If the film excels over cheap action flicks, it's in the determination and exhaustion of its leads and persistent refusal to avoid Hollywood glory. Also, unless anybody knows of another film, this is the only one I've seen that captures the critical role played by Forward Air Controllers in both prosecuting the air war in Vietnam, and rescuing those airmen nearly lost.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bat-21
This film encompases the realism a Vietnam Veteran wants in a film centered on/in that war. the films actors dedication to self portrayals of those who were there while fighting against all odds for those in need and under fire is accurate. Danny Glover portrays the honest truth of character that most men had within themselves while there. I remembered my own dedication to my country and its best beliefs while watching the film. Thank you Danny for a wonderful portrayal.

5-0 out of 5 stars BAT 21
For a movie based on a true story, I found it be very fast paced with an excellent story line.

Danny Glover and Gene Hackman really clicked in this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Gene Hackman Raises This Film to Minor Classic
Perhaps, like me, you've come here after watching "Behind Enemy Lines" featuring Owen Wilson and, of course, Gene Hackman, who happens to star in this underrated film. Okay, the plot is almost the same as that action filck made with the technology of the year 2001, but, let me tell you, "BAT*21" gives its stress on a different matter than "Behind," and that is the characters played by the two leads.

As the film claims in the opening, the story about Lieutenant Colonel Iceal Hambleton whose airplane is shot down behind enemy lines in Vietnam is based on truth. Now becoming "BAT*21," his code name, he has to rely on a radio by which he maintains a contact with a pilot Captain Bartholomew Clerk (Danny Glover), who instructs and encourages him to overcome all the barriers waiting for him on the ground. But Lieutenant Colonel has no previous combat experience in his career, and the time for massive air raid that is certain to kill him is coming closer.

Frankly, some of the scenes are too incredible (especially when Captain tries to fly the helicopter, which he has not done for a long time). And you cannot expect the high-octaine action sequences, because the film's real focus is set in other places; that is, the bond between the two leading characters, which develops gradually through the unreliable radio contact. Precisely this human part is the greatest asset of "BAT*21" of which quality is raised by the extremely superb acting by Gene Hackman. He is, as usual with any first-rate actor you name, the real energy with his depiction of toughness and frailty, and his powerhouse performance lifts this sometimes clithed film to the above-average level among many other ones about this war.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for atomic age history buffs.
I feel that this movie is one of the most underrated political dramas of all time. This is probably because the subject matter was far too enervating for the average viewer to stomach. The movie comes across as a documentary of the early atomic age acted out by excellent actors. The movie stars Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez and Lea Thompson and a host of great supporting characters who are real fun to look at. But taken as pure entertinment, the subject matter is still ugly.

Martin Sheen plays Esteves' character as an older sucessful neurologist who is visiting Las Vegas during a convention. When a former soldier in a wheelchair appears and pleads for his help, Sheen is forced to recall his position as a psychological tester of US army soldiers who were being trained during the 1950's by the US army for combat in a nuclear environment. The movie mostly consists of Sheen's flashbacks to his youth (played by Esteves)where he uncovers that the soldiers and himself are being lied to by the army about radiation. Esteves, after growing attached to the platoon he was supposed to be observing, becomes way to involved in the nuclear experiments.

Sheen gives a powerful performance of a man who must tell the truth about the past so that he can face the future with a clear conscience. Nevertheless, the film has no car chases, no hand-to-hand combat, gunfighting, etc, so it's easy to see why it wasn;t a huge hit. However, if you happen to be a history teacher or just a history buff with an interest in the early days of the Cold War, you MUST own a copy of this movie!!!

I've heard that any movie in which the star dies during filming will be "jinxed"; that is, people will lambaste it. "Wagons East" is a perfect example of this phenomenon. I'm not sure why I decided to watch this film after all I'd heard about it...but, for some reason, I did.

And what did I find? Not a horrible movie...but what *could* have actually been a *good* movie (among other things, it's based on actual events-settlers *did* often decide to return east), made mediocre by the fact that the footage filmed after John Candy's death was so easy to spot. And some of the anachronistic humor (including the very presence of the Richard Lewis character), admittedly, did not help.

But there were quite a few good laughs. The gay guy turning out to be a masterful gunslinger comes to mind. And the scuzzy Ferguson brothers (even the most distinctive of them made unrecognizable by blank expressions and layers of filth) were hilarious.

4-0 out of 5 stars Funny!
I was really pleased with this movie. It had lots of funny parts, and I think that if you like comedy, you should watch it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre Comedy
Although I love Candy in every film I have seen him in, I was disappointed in this one.... it is slow, looks like it had rewrites along the way, possibly due to his death, but good for a few chuckles along the way. The characters, except for the two leads, are very good and really shine. But Candy is weak in his role, leaving much of his talent by the wayside... again maybe because of his death and scene cutting. I never cared for Richard Lewis and his is just as weak as Candy in this film. The price is right and the editing, photography, and supporting cast make it a worthwhile purchase. The film was poorly written, but comes out as a C+ film overall on DVD.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of John's Best
This is one of John Candy's best movies, even though he passed away while filming. Some reviewers are much too harsh on this very funny movie. Richard Lewis is very well cast and anyone should enjoy this great Western Comedy, similar to Blazing Saddles!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Movie
I highly enjoyed this movie. Some reviewers say you have to know your history, but [thats not true]. All you have to know is who the Donner Party was. John Candy's death was unfortunate, but it did not "jinx" the movie. I think it is one of his best. The gay book store owner, Julian, does steal the show, however. All in all a good movie. ... A great story and terrific cast. SciFi really should have bought the rights and spun it into a series.

5-0 out of 5 stars White Dwarf
This fantastic fantasy story is stunning in both the visual effects as well as its' written script! Paul Winfield gives a great performance as " The Local Country Doctor" on a bipolar planet, half in eternal light and half in eternal dark! Both sides demanding His services and all the while training a new intern, newly landed on the planet to at first cultivate stories from far afield in the savage frontier of space, only to be taken in by the beauty and lore of this world! A film not to be missed by any fan of science fiction!!!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The idea was good, but it could have been better.
I initially rented this movie because Kiefer Sutherland is in it, and I am a big Kiefer Sutherland fan. I was pleasantly surprised by the appearances of Michael Madsen and Dennis Hopper.

While, the acting, I thought, was good, it was the screenplay/storyline that wasn't. I can feel this build up, but the movie never climaxed for me. It just built me up and then didn't really go anywhere with it.

I don't blame the actors for this, as I think everyone really was good, it was just wasn't done as well as it could have been.

2-0 out of 5 stars The soundtrack was nice.
The only thing I like about this movies was the soundtrack. I expected more from this move with the actors that was in it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Amazing waste of talent!
Extraordinary! I would never have thought that it was (is) possible to take a bunch of A-list actors (ie. Hopper, Madsen, Hannah, Sutherland) and pair them with a director who usually has a knack for making cult faves (Hot Dog... the movie for instance) and come up with a bag of leftovers like this!

I got the feeling that the director was high on speed and didn't sleep at all during production, just kept on stubbornly trying to imitate the stylings of Quentin Tarantino except without the novelty nor the talent.

4-0 out of 5 stars So good it's hard to believe it was a TV show
I was certainly sorry when Fox cancelled Millennium, but on the other hand, it's damn near miraculous that a show this intelligent, original, challenging and disturbing made it on to TV at all, let alone managed to survive for three seasons. I give this tape only four stars because although the series got off to an excellent start it didn't really hit its stride until the last third of the first season, when elements of the supernatural started creeping (and creep is definitely the operative word here) into it, and Millennium slowly transformed into the absolute best horror/fantasy/sf series ever. Although it was always just as much a drama, too. Forget TV, I can't even think of very many films in the genre that can touch this program for subtlty and smarts. For instance, in the brilliant episode "Powers, Principalities, Thrones and Dominions," it becomes fairly apparent that one character is an angel and another is a man posessed by a demon, but nothing is ever explicitly indicated. Now, in pretty much any other show or film they'd hit you over the head with it. They'd probably have the demon-guy's eyes glow red when no one's looking or just have him outright state something that makes his identity unmistakable. They'd probably have the angel-guy sprout wings at some point. But Millennium was almost unique in the extent to which it always demonstrated unusual faith in the intelligence of its audience. And I'd like to add my voice to the chorus clamoring here for the release of the series on DVD, just in case anyone from Fox happens by.

5-0 out of 5 stars Please FOX, release Millennium on DVD
I agree with what many others have said, Millennium is by far one of the best shows ever made. FOX has made a habit of killing great TV series (Firefly is another example of that). I hope FOX will realize that there is a huge following for this show and release all three seasons in the ultimate DVD box set!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Millennium was the best show
Why they took Millennium off the air I will never know. I looked forward to the show every Friday night. Fox should have let it go on to at least the year 2000 like it was meant to be. Please bring out a boxed set.

5-0 out of 5 stars Millenniun TV Fox Series
I thought the Millenium on Fox was the best SFi/adventure series on TV,I actually started to like it more than the X-Files series. I never knew that it was being taken off the air untill I waited for it to come back on in the Fall season and to my dismay it did not. It would be nice if the Sc-Fi channel would become interested in it and started a new series. Chris Carter have you thought about "reinventing it on a channel like the Sci-Fi channel". My comments will probably go by the wayside...but just maybe some how "Out there" someone will think about the possibilities of bringing it back. Signed, "Misser of the Best Sci-Fi/Adventure on TV", KarlBuzz

5-0 out of 5 stars Millenium TV Series Deserves to be on DVD
I'm adding my voice to the list of others here who have expressed their interest in seeing the Millenium TV series brought to DVD.

I read just over a year ago on www.digitalbits.com (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/120202htfchat.html) that Millenium may be coming to DVD, however, I have yet to find any additional information on this topic.

I loved this series and was very sad to see it come to such a sudden end. If it ever makes it to DVD, I'll be there to buy it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Great movie - bad reproduction
This is one of my favorite movies ... I love it! BUT, I returned the DVD after finding out that it is not made in Widescreen or Dolby Digital. I know .. I should have looked first, but I assumed.:( Why does anyone even bother to make a DVD in Full Screen - HiFi? A tape is almost as good. This movie, and dozens more that I know of, deserve much more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly Enjoyable Fun
I began watching this movie because there was simply nothing else on, and I like Lou Gossett Jr & Anthony Edwards. About 15 minutes into the film, I was hooked and really enjoying the ride. This is a very clever, witty, and funny screenplay, full of jokes both subtle and not, and it has a score that is nearly flawless, accentuating both action and comedy. There are a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, and some truly unique comedic situations. In many respects, the whole film reminded me of "The Frisco Kid" with Harrison Ford and Gene Wilder, another of my favorite Western comedies.

Anthony Edwards (Billy Ray Smith) plays a tenderfoot schoolteacher prone to falling off and accidentally shooting horses. One of his students is kidnapped by the stunningly attractive El Diablo ("Star Trek: Voyager's" Robert Beltran,) and Edwards sets out to find the girl and bring her home. His misadventures with a band of misfit outlaws brings a lot of laughs and even some tender moments.

With only minor bad language and some blood here and there, this is a movie the whole family can enjoy. I highly recommend it, and plan to watch it again and again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprises and scares at every turn of this fun Western.
The unlikely pairing of Louis Gosset Jr. and Anthony Edwards makes this movie intensly engaging. These actors and their supporting cast take the viewer on a wild ride through the old west as a mild mannered school teacher "beats the devil". The rescuing of a lovely young school girl from the hands of a very sexy Mexican bad guy, is done with humor through the awkwardness of the rescuer Billy Ray, and lots of help from savy gun slinger Louis Gosset Jr.and his wonder horse Rio. Though this movie was made for cable TV it sacrificed nothing in quality. El Diablo is well cast, funny, sweet, action packed, and very worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars *********HILARIOUS********
I have seen this movie a million times. I definately recommend it to....well, anyone!! My brother and I rolled around on the floor the first, like, twenty times we saw it.(Sometimes we still do) The music was what really made the movie great, so pay attention to it!! :)

When a teenage schoolgirl is kidnapped by Mexican bandit El Diablo (Star Trek: Voyager's Robert Beltran), her clumsy, awkward schoolteacher Billy Ray Smith (Anthony Edwards) sets out to save her. The would-be hero in this offbeat Western teams up with crotchety veteran gunslinger Van Leek (Louis Gossett Jr.), who helps him form an unlikely posse to rescue Smith's damsel in distress. What sets this low-key, made-for-cable production apart from numerous other Westerns is its humorously skewed take on the myths and legends of the Old West, as it not only deconstructs Hollywood's romanticized view of the genre but Billy Ray's veneration of a mythical gunfighter named Kid Durango, whose literary adventures he regularly reads to his students. Gossett is wonderfully droll as unscrupulous six slinger Van Leek, whose motives are always suspect; Edwards is charming as the bumbling teacher; and the supporting cast--which includes Branscombe Richmond (Renegade), Miguel Sandoval (Get Shorty), and John Glover (Brimstone)--imbue life into their quirky gun-for-hire roles. Indeed the best aspect of El Diablo is the way in which many of its characters' façades are gradually revealed. The very tongue-in-cheek screenplay was coauthored by Halloween director John Carpenter. --Bryan Reeseman ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Dead and Alive is an oxymoron!
Having contributed in some small way to the making of this movie, I found it barely resembled the original cut. The excessive editing destroyed the continuity and artistry. I found the producers attempt at retitling and billing Samuel L. Jackson as the star... Gus Farace, to be shameful! Tony Danza plays the title role in this movie and Mr. Jackson is not even a first billing in 1992 when this movie was shot. Where is the integrity? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Seceret Government Radiation Tests
This is a movie about seceret tests done on Military soldiers.
Even the soldiers were not told what was really being done to them.
