5-0 out of 5 stars great career starter
I remember watching this in high school. Every character stood out on their own. Donna Dixon was my favorite-playing Sonny Lumet-beautiful and brainy. Wendie Jo Sperber was also wonderful. It She had the best lines. I always liked to see Hanks and Scolari get into the women's clothing before they got caught. Every episode is very funny and it's nice to seethem again!

4-0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong!
I have been a Bosom Buddies fan since the show came out. Why it still doesn't air is beyond me. This and all the other video's are must haves. When ever I need a smile - these are the tapes that do it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Comedy!
This tape contains two of my favorite Bosom Buddies episodes: The Pilot and Macho Man. The comedic genius and talent of these two actors, as well as the whole ensemble cast, is timeless. I occasionally pull out my old tapes to watch an episode or two and always ending up laughing hysterically. If you want to be in a good mood, watch this show. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Only Two Episodes Per Tape!
There's a reason you won't find an episode listing for this overpriced series of 4 tapes-- there are only two episodes per tape, and you will find few, if any, of your most fondly remembered favorites among the 8 shows duplicated for your enjoyment at the slowest VHS speed, EP, on narrow-hub spools so your VCR will take forever to rewind them.

The show's opening theme song's been overdubbed with the *closing* theme song , too.

A waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars We love Wendie Jo
Though Tom Hanks seems to get the most recognition, Wendie Jo Sperber is the true show stopper of Bosom Buddies. She is incredibly, hilariously talented . She steals every scene and is totally beautiful and sexy while doing so. She deserves Hanks career. She is amazing in everything she's in. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Whatever happened to Maria Holvoe???
If you are out there, Maria, please let us know!!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites...
...with two of my favorite actors: Mark Harmon and the lovely Madeline Stowe.

I caught this on cable back in the early 90's. I had a big crush on Madeline Stowe, since seeing her in "Revenge". So I decided to check this out...and I was not disappointed.

Definitely not a general classic, but I love this film. With less-capable and less-likeable actors, this film would (...). This is one of those rare cases where the actors elevate the material.

This is one of those rainy-day, "got-nothing-else-to-do" movies.
It's definitely worth a look, and the Amazon price is definitely right. Give it a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Getting!
One of my favorite movies. The plot is simple and predictable. The lines are sometimes cheesy but overall, the movie is very entertaining. Love the soundtrack too.

Synopsis: "Taylor Worth (Mark Harmon) is a local weatherman in Philadelphia who loves two things: gambling and women. Ned (Mark Blum), his psychiatrist friend, believes that Taylor's behavior is an excuse from establishing permanent relationships. To prove his theory to be correct, he made a bet with Taylor. The bet: Taylor is to be engage to three women in two months. The stakes: A fishing cabin for a Picasso. The catch: Ned will pick the three women and the engagement has to be videotaped."

"What happens next is wild rollercoaster ride as Taylor plots, schemes, strategizes and executes plan after plan to beat his friend."

What strikes me about the story is how Mark Harmon played his character. He used more finesse rather than the egotistical "God's gift to women" attitude. He is no Cassanova but somehow irresistible. I couldn't help but cheering for him even though the bet was morally wrong. The supporting cast is excellent.

If you like a light-heart sexual comedy movie, then this is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Getting!
This movie is one of my all-time favorites. The story plot is simple and predictable. Some of the lines may be cheesy. But overall, it is very funny and entertaining.

Synopsis: "Taylor Worth (Mark Harmon) is a local weatherman in Philadelphia who loves two things: gambling and women. His best friend, Ned (Mark Blum), a married psychiatrist, believes that his bachelor lifestyle is a way of avoiding permanent relationships. To prove that his theory is correct, Ned challenged Taylor to a bet. The bet was for Taylor to get engage to three women in two months. The stakes: A Picasso for a fishing cabin. The catch: Ned will be picking the three women."

"What happens next is one laughter after another as Taylor plots, schemes, strategizes and executes plan after plan to try and win the bet."

What strikes me the most about this film is the way Mark Harmon portrayed his character, Taylor Worth. He avoided the egotistical "God's gift to Women" attitude. Because of this, I found myself cheering for him even though the bet was morally wrong.

Watch it and see for yourself. This is a light-heart sexual comedy that will have you laughing.

4-0 out of 5 stars An 80's classic!
I don't know what it is about this movie but it's a classic 80's flick! Mark Harmon is at his best. The plot is a little predictable but it's entertaining and takes you back to the decade past. ... Read more

Amazon.com essential video

Some television ages well, some doesn't. For every Mary Tyler Moore Show that still rocks, there's a Family Ties that's painfully mired in its era. One would think this would be the case for Moonlighting, the detective series of the mid-1980s starring Cybill Shepherd (on a career rebound) and Bruce Willis (then unknown). The ingredients are all there: '80s fashion, hourlong TV mystery plots, Wayfarer sunglasses... Fortunately--and gloriously--this is not the case.As fresh as it was when it first aired, Moonlighting is a prime example of groundbreaking television at its peak and a timeless lesson in the science of star chemistry. Shepherd, as the ice-queen model Maddie Hayes, and Willis, as the "do bears bear, do bees be?"hipster-doofus David Addison, were the quintessential match made in hell, thrown together under dubious circumstances. In this pilot episode, Shepherd, having discovered that her accountant has left her broke, proceeds to liquidate her assets, including the City of Angels Detective Agency, headed up by Willis. However, thanks to a dead body that pops out of an elevator, the two pair up to solve a case involving a broken watch and some pilfered Nazi loot, hoping to get some publicity (and cash) for their newly rechristened Blue Moon Investigations. The plot is negligible, involving a dead jogger, a mohawked hit man, and a sadistic henchman, but the mystery was never Moonlighting's selling point--it was the sparring, the swearing, the sparks that Willis and Shepherd created together. Watching these two at their best (before the series slid downhill when they finally slept together), you'll realize that neither has ever been paired with a better costar; they bring out something in each other that's undiluted antagonism mixed with irresistible attraction. Discounting some of Shepherd's fashion choices and hairstyles, and Willis's, well, hair (he had some), this is timeless farce and screwball comedy in the tradition of His Girl Friday, snappily penned by Glenn Gordon Carron. Also featuring Allyce Beasley as rhyming secretary Agnes DiPesto, the only supporting character in the series who could intrude upon the Shepherd-Willis repartee without upsetting their rhythm. --Mark Englehart ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Looks great! , Could sound better
Well, a bruce willis classic has been released on DVD. The whole Pilot has been remastered but I was disepointed that the sound was in MONO. Other than that, you can also choose the see some very rare Bruce Willis Sreentests which he has a lot of hair on! and also a screentest with another guy who odetioned for the role of "David Addison" who I've never seen in my life! and Plus , it was great to hear Bruce Willis and Glen Caron's thoughts about the pilot and the series in the audio commentary. Defenatly for a Bruce Willis Or a "Moonlighting" fan to add to their collection!

4-0 out of 5 stars Jump starting the double entendre
Fifteen years after I wanted to be David Addison and realized I could only watch David Addison, they release the Pilot on DVD. I want to be David again but my wife won't let me! Seriously- the highlight of the DVD, which is not one of my favorite episodes (Atomic Shakespeare) is the audio commentary with Glenn Caron and Bruce Willis. They share fond memories of working on Moonlighting, and remind us how, culturally speaking, huge the show was. They also comment on other episodes, guest stars, and make a list of THEIR favorite episodes. And Bruce tells nice stories about the fourth season! The only problem is the audio commentary disappears for a long time during the last twenty minutes. I wanna know how they filmed all that stuff on the clock!

4-0 out of 5 stars Should Have Complete Season Box Set DVDs.
Moonlighting is a good show, a local TV station used to show reruns but unfornutately stopped showing them so I was glad to find out you could buy episodes on video tape and I think they even have this pilot episode on DVD but I really think they should put out box set complete season DVDs, that would be super cool! Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd are great and I also like Alyse Beasley who plays secretary Miss Dipesto (SP?) and the guy who played Booger in the Revenge of the Nerd movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hell on High Heels
The chemistry between "Maddie" and "David" is classic, like Tracy and Hepburn. My teenagers and I used to tape every episode, they were so witty. Please, put the whole series on DVD. It's an instant seller of a classic madcap comedy.
A New England viewer

5-0 out of 5 stars Pilot Episode
At about an hour and a half in length, this is the pilot episode, the one that set the standard for the show. It is fast paced, witty, charming, and romantic. All the best qualities that the show retained until near the end of it's run. If you ever enjoyed Moonlighting, you'll love this. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars poor film lacking any real substance
what better than a nice christmas film to set you in the mood for the festive season.well, steer clear of this jaded effort.a hobos christmas is the tale of well,a hobo, erm,at christmas!!!! thats the thing, theres no particular plot to it.the whole thing gives a rushed and jarred feel.for example, when moving from one scene to the next,a clip of a some generic city in the snow is shown.however it is obvious that a different type of film has been used, and the clips feel like they've been lifted from a news report.this gives the film a very unconvincing edge.also, the scenes stop and start abruptly, with no real explanation given to what happened before it or whats to happen after.it almost feels like the movie was shot and bits of it were chopped out at the last minute.on to the dialogue, which the less said about the better.its simply woeful, with the hobos son going on meandering monologues with no real conclusion.the scene where the hobo and his son are in the cafe is particularly lamentable. "the best salesman in the land","bats and balls, you could sell anything!!!!" are comic rather than sentimental.the characters themselves bearly interact with one another emotionally, and it gives the film a sterile feel.the whole thing is totally unbelievable.very little reference is made to time, which makes it difficult to get into.examples of poor realism are when the boy gets whacked on the ice rink, rather than saying oh god hes hurt, they just laugh!!! and he could be shouting oh me arm,its sore!!!! and the hobo himself, hes too prim and proper for a street hobo.and his friends, why would they be making the christmas dinner?? where were the beer cans, etc etc.would you leave you're kids at home with 5 mad hobos??? and where did the other mad hobo turn up to sing the carols from? why werent the hobos trashing his house, drinking strong lager and being sick, battering each other, forcing themselves on the hobos sons wife???? like what would happen in something even vaguely representing REALITY???!!!!! and dont think, ahh,it'll be good for the kids!!!! i must admit to laughing most of the way through this poor show, and must only be purchased for amusement purposes only!!!!! it gets 2 out of 5 for comic value,0 out of 5 for proper film, storyline and acting.

4-0 out of 5 stars I Wish This Was Available on DVD!
I watched Hobo's Christmas on TV one year and I thought it was pretty good and had a great cast, especially Bernard Hughes and Gerald McRaney. It is a Christmastime movie that has some sad scenes but nothing too melodramatic or sappy and all in all it has a great message about love, family and forgiveness perfect for the Holiday season! I just wish that the movie was available on DVD!

4-0 out of 5 stars Hobo's Christmas
Hobo's Christmas starring Barnard Hughes and Gerald McRaney is a good heart warming Christmas movie.Barnard Hughes plays a hobo who travels by sneaking onto box cars on trains, he arrives in a town where his son and grand children live hoping to get back in contact with them. His son played by Gerald McRaney doesn't want to have anything to do with his father because of past hurts, disappointments and misunderstandings but his grand son and grand daughter want to see him so their father reluctantly lets him stay with them and the old man connects with his grand children and trys to mend the rift between him and his son. This movie is very good and I recommend the video to anyone who loves Christmas movies and I would love if the movie would be made available on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT FAMILY MOVIE!
I recorded this movie from broadcast TV almost 15 years ago, and have almost worn out the tape! In my household, this movie is right up there with "A Charlie Brown Christmas," and "A Christmas Carol." I highly recommend it, and will probably order the DVD version, now that I know where to find it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Christmas Movie!
This was a movie that I didn't think I would like but I watched it and I was wrong about thinking it wouldn't be a good movie and I just really liked it. It's about an elderly man who is played by Barnard Hughes, the man is a hobo who hops trains and travels all over the USA and getting the odd job here and there and since it's Christmas time he decides to visit his son played by Gerald Mcraney, they had a falling out and haven't seen each other in years and the father wants to try and make amends and so he can get to know his grandchildren who he has never seen and he wants to have an old fashioned Christmas with his family if his son will let him. Description

PERFECT HARMONY is a moving story in which boyhood friendship and love of music overcome racial prejudice. Set in South Carolina during the 1950s, two boys -- Taylor, the star of his prep school's renowned, all-white boys' choir, and Landy, an orphaned black teenager with a gift for the blues -- develop a friendship in spite of the racial barriers that divide the school and town. Starring Peter Scolari (NEWHART) as the academy's inspirational choirmaster, this impressive work features uplifting music and promises family entertainment at its finest. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Vintage Disney
This movie perfectly exemplifies what the Disney brand used to stand for before Michael Eisner started leading Disney into its present controversial direction: a quality family movie with a heartwarming, redemptive, and educational story; the kind of movie that families used to trust Disney to make consistently. The numerous excerpts of classical music, from Handel's "Messiah" to Haydn's "The Creation," are presented in a very entertaining and lighthearted manner. They are thus an excellent tool to teach younger children about this style of music in a way that's not stuffy or pretentious. My own early introduction to opera and classical music was through the vintage Bugs Bunny cartoons, like "Rabbit of Seville" and "What's Opera, Doc." This movie can serve much the same function for introducing children to oratorios and lieder. In the process, they will also receive a wonderful morality tale about looking beyond our outer differences to the person that's inside.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever
I love this movie. I have watched this movie at least 50 times. It is in my opinion one of Walt Disney's best. I cried the first time I saw this movie when Taylor and Landy walk up the aisle and shake hands and then Landy goes up and sings. This is a must see for everyone!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
This is the best movie disney has ever made. I love this story because it involves music and love. This is powerful story.

3-0 out of 5 stars UNREALISTIC
It is 1959 and southern Blanton Academy has been blessed with its new choir master. Unfortunately he is from the north but in time he will lock step with southern tradition. Enter,Taylor the academy's star soloist and Landy, the Black janitor's grandson. The two form a friendship based on their mutual love of music. Landy is enthralled by the classical pieces of the choir while Taylor falls in love with the blues.

Throw in racial tension, hatred and a few beatings and you would think you would have a thrilling picture. It doesn't happen. Disney has given us a sanatized version of civil rights entering in a small town. You see injustices, naivite and misplaced loyalties but most of all you get poor acting. The actors somehow lost their southern accents. We are made to believe that the headmaster is dumb enough to be influenced by an adolescent.

The only redeeming factor of this movie is the music from both genres. The story itself is flawed given the time period in which it is introduced. There are some things that are hard to believe given the context. If you want a nice moral story which will bring a few tears and make you indignant by all means this is the movie for you. If you are looking for a story with depth and a deeper exploration of young Black and White relationships during this time period get something else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Disney movie!
This title should be in the directory under the Disney and family genres. Currently, there is another video with the same title from 1995 listed that is actually a classical music video. This movie I highly recommend. Great Disney film. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing show!
What a show.... what a couple...
This is one of the best shows ever shown on tv. Intelligent, great writing, sexual tension, and comedy that would sum up the show of Remington Steele!
I love Stephanie Zimbalist's role as Laura Holt... Beautiful, smart, and fashionable! Most of the stuff she worn on the show is still very fashionable today.. very CK, Banana Republic, Club Monoco like stuff..
I just love her very real and beautiful image... very un-hollywood like.. and I do think if she was 10-15 years younger she would have the carrer of Sandra Bullock.

4-0 out of 5 stars Setting the tone
This episode sets the tone for Laura Holt as a bad role model for women. In her world, she can't inspire other women to be private detectives because she tells everyone that Mr. Steele is the head of the agency and she is an associate. She also lies to everyone she meets when she says that Mr. Steele exists, when at first he didn't, and then when she introduces the man she thinks is a con man as Mr. Steele. She calls Steele a fraud, yet she invents a fake boss simply because she thinks she's entitled to her own agency. She also sets the tone for the rest of the series by not believing Steele when he tells her the truth. And she is a hypocrite when she calls him a liar while lying to him that there really is a Remington Steele. There is no chemistry between the two characters because Laura is paranoid about having a relationship with him, or anyone else for that matter. And Steele isn't that attracted to her because over the course of the series, he accepts her excuses for not being with him rather than pursuing her. Laura Holt spent four years during this series looking for reasons not to be with Steele rather than looking for reasons to be with him. I will never understand why Laura would spend so much time with a man she found so unsuitable and why he would stay with a woman who found him so unsuitable.

5-0 out of 5 stars The premier "Remington Steele" episode!
"Try this for a deep dark secret. There great detective Remington Steele, he doesn't exist! I invented him. Follow. I always loved excitement so I studied, and apprenticed, and put my name on an office. But absolutely nobody knocked down on my door. A female private investigator seemed so... feminine. So I invented a superior. A decidedly masculine superior. Suddenly there were cases around the block! It was working like a charm. Until the day he walked in. With his blue eyes and mysterious past. And before I knew it, he assumed Remington Steele's identity. Now I do the work and he takes the bows. It's a dangerous way to live, but as long as people buy it, I can get the job done. We never mix business with pleasure. Well... almost never. I don't even know his real name!"
-Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist)-

This is how some of the episodes began, with this introduction by 'Remington Steele's' assistant, Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist). Now you know the whole story behind Remington Steele. The Remington Steele series were about the cases Remington Steele (Pierce Brosnan) and his associate Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) cracked many difficult and complicated cases. Also starring were James Read as Murphy Michaels as their co-worker (only in the first season), Janet DeMay as Bernice Foxe their secretary (only for the first season), and Doris Roberts as Mildred Krebs (for the rest of the seasons). Showing occasionally was also Stephanie Zimbalist's father, Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as Daniel Chalmers, an old friend of 'Remington Steele'.

Anyway, this episode is the premier episode which explains almost everything about how Pierce Brosnan got to be Remington Steele. When Laura Holt is hired to proved security to some gems, she meets a mysterious Ben Pierson. But she gets the surprise of her life when Ben Pierson is not only not the real Ben Pierson, he has assumed the role of Remington Steele! Does he know her secret, that her superior Remington Steele doesn't exist? And who is he really? Could he actually be a murderer and a thief? * Great episode, and I just loved the banter and chemistry between Pierce Brosnan and Stephanie Zimbalist. And you've go to admit, Pierce Brosnan is a great suave and sophisticated Steele!

5-0 out of 5 stars The beginning of one of the greatest detective series
The first of the Remington Steele series!

Laura Holt is an able, intelligent detective, but sexism spills over when her agency is neglected because she is a woman. So, she invents a fictional superior named "Remington Steele," a man who no one ever sees.

Her business bustles until a man comes into her life, calling himself Remington Steele--the problem is, she doesn't know where he comes from, who he is, or what his real name is. "Steele" is handsome, sophistocated, worldly, debonair, and apparently gleans all of his life knowledge from an encyclopedic memory of old movies. But he also guards his secret past like gold.

Laura has no choice but to keep the man as a sidekick, despite the fact that he is hailed as a genius when she does all the work. Adding to the oddity of the situation is the fact that she is fast falling in love with him.

Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan reportedly didn't like each other, but they project a sizzling screen chemistry.

Brosnan manages to give a difficult character depth and an intriguing mystery, exuding precisely the cultured warmth that is needed. But Steele is clearly a very emotional man as well, whom Laura has a good influence on.

Zimbalist creates a very feminine career woman, a great role model. Laura is no Bond-babe. She is very pretty (not the standard Hollywood "pretty"--a natural prettiness) but is independent and strong-minded. You can sense her unhappiness when she is discounted as being a female private investigator.

First part of a really enjoyable series!

Murphy Michaels calls Laura Holt to help him investigate a brutal murder. What he doesn't expect is when Remington tags along with her, complaining that Steele would mess up everything. So Remington strikes up a deal with Laura; if he figures out who the murderer is first, Laura must spend a weekend in Paris with him. But, on the other hand, if Laura catches the murderer first, Remington Steele must tell her about one year of his mysterious past. Who will find the murderer first? * I love this episode primarily because of the banter between Pierce Brosnan, Stephanie Zimbalist, and James Read. Also the sparks of jealousy between Remington Steele and Murphy Michaels over Laura is very interesting to watch! Very great ending, too, I might add!

4-0 out of 5 stars Steele Crazy After All These Years
Definatly one of my fav. eps, this video allows me to enjoy it again and again! I love the tension between Murphy, Steele, and Laura, as Laura and Steele vie for who can solve the case first. I love the bet that they make. "One week in Paris, for one year of your life." This is the episode where sparks really start to fly between Steele and Laura, you see them even closer two eps later in Vintage Steele, but that's a whole different story! ...

Great Disney film. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Vintage Steele -- a fun glimpse into Laura's Mysterious Past
This is my favorite episode of "Remington Steele". We get a look at how Laura's past turned her into a "don't mix business with pleasure" professional. You'll love her wild striptease in the winery......and that steamy kiss in the wine cellar!!! Wow!! This is one episode not to be missed. And we get to meet her mysterious man who wore white belts and T-shirts that said "Bankers do it with interest". Mr. Steele finds out he's not the only one with secrets. It's a true Remington Steele fan's delight.

5-0 out of 5 stars i'm the biggest remington steele fan ever!
It's not my favourite episode because I like ALL of them but it still is a very funny and interesting one! I've got all 89 episodes on videotapes and I have watched all of them about 5-7 times! My favourite episode is Steele Crazy After All These Years but all the other episodes rule too!

all you remington steele fans out there, e-mail me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
This episode of Remington Steele is just about the funniest one there is. We finally get a glimpse into Laura's life before the agency, there's lots of romance and that strip scene is absolutely priceless. I was rolling on the floor laughing. He's not the only one with a suspect past.

4-0 out of 5 stars This episode brings back so many memories.
I'm a fan that died hard when they cancelled this show. The anticipation of a kiss between laura and remington steele would leave you almost breathless. This episode by far is one of my favorites because they finally kissed. I will admit the storyline was a bit cheesy but it was the from the "80's" era what else do you expect? I really enjoyed watching this episode again and I'm sure if you were a true fan you will too. ... Read more
