The Muppets are putting on a play on words (get it?), a convenient framing device for a Sesame Street-style reading lesson. Get ready for some sticky, slippery fun when Prairie Dawn directs the G-rated vaudevillian act, complete with Bert and Ernie in straw hats telling corny jokes and a pie-throwing machine in fine working order. There are behind-the-scenes prop emergencies and a finale no-show, prompting rhyming lessons ("Oh, no, Hoho is a no-show!") and plenty of TV clips, including "I Am Chicken," the fowl take on the feminist anthem "I Am Woman." Elmo joins singing partners Mo and Flo in the stirring (substitute) finale, "We Got the Need to Read." Kindergarteners who think they're too old for Sesame Street might still get drawn in by challenges aimed at beginning readers. Ages 2 to 6. --Kimberly Heinrichs ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Baby and Toddler DVD
My daughter has watched this video almost every day since she was two months old (she's now 21 months old). It quickly became her favorite video last year, and I think it's because of the catchy, high-energy songs.

She prefers this video to many other ones because there are several good musical numbers, and there is only a limited amount of between-song talking. I even memorized several of the songs to sing to her in the car when we ride around town, and that used to stop her from crying when she was 6-12 months old (actually, it still works pretty well in the car sometimes).

Now that she's 21 months old, she jumps up and down and dances around when the songs come on, and she applauds at the end of each song. I'm amazed that this video has kept her attention for 19 months. Also, she really loves the "preview other sesame street DVDs" section. It shows you 30-second snippets of 15-20 other DVDs, focusing on the catchy songs. I choose the "play all previews" selection to give her a 10-minute block of previews. That gives us about 55 minutes of total entertainment - twice the length of many other toddler DVDs.

I almost forgot the most redeeming quality of this DVD - it teaches words. My daughter can now say the words "go", "sticky", and "elmo". She even tries to sing along with the syllables that she knows.

I can't recommend this DVD enough! It's a great baby and toddler DVD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great blend of old and new
For moms and dads who remember the classic Sesame Street skits, this DVD offers some nice gems. And it blends the older material into a cute, cohesive storyline that features some really catchy music and fun new action. My 18-month old just loves this DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another hit by Sesame Street!
My two-year old son is a huge fan of Sesame Street, and we own several VHS/DVD Sesame Street videos. This is our latest addition to our library of videos, and was an instant hit! My son loves to watch this video - over and over! It grabbed his attention right from the very start. I was a bit worried that he wasn't old enough to deal with seeing words, but Bert and Ernie do it in a very entertaining way, which keeps my son's attention. He is enjoying himself and learning while watching this video. All Sesame Street shows/videos are educational, in my humble opinion, but this one is by far VERY educational. Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars We love this video!
The story is cute and our daughter loves it. I like how they dissect different words to make other words. There are a number of jokes that are funny for adults, so watching it with your child is not annoying. We have it on DVD and play it in the car or on the plane during long trips - it's been a lifesaver! I also like that my daugther is learning while she is being entertained.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great video for toddlers and parents!
We own several Sesame Street videos and this is by far the best one. It is fun for our 18 month old daughter and for her parents! It has a Muppet Show feel to it and the songs are very catchy. It is a great introduction to the use of words as well. Enjoy! ... Read more

Kids will enjoy this half-hour Sesame Street video, in which the whole gang takes a piano up to the roof and sings some of their favorite songs. But they are frequently interrupted by workmen Biff and Sully, who keep tuning in songs on their TV (only to knock the antenna out of whack). The blend of people and puppets is charming, and the bits culled from the TV show add to the fun. A pair of highlights: Ernie sitting in his bathtub singing the big hit, "Rubber Ducky," and Bert (in a magical bit of puppetry) dancing and singing "Doing the Pigeon." --Marshall Fine ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Mother's Savior
I found this video at a yard sale for ... It is the only video that my 15 mth old will watch in it's entirety. She is completely engrossed. She loves the songs and I enjoy watching her mimic the movements (Stand Up and Pinch Your Nose). This is a must-have video for all toddlers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sing Along..Please
When asking my 19 month old son which video he would like to watch, more often than not it is "Sing Along". It never grows old for him and I must admit I could watch Madeline Kahn and Grover's duet several times over. It is a real treat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for mom, too!
My 2 older kids, now ages 6 and 8, watched this tape until it wore out. With a new baby now, I will definitely buy it again. The kids LOVED these songs, even though the tape is obviously not from their generation. They didn't care. I enjoyed it because some of these songs are from when I watched Sesame Street as a kid! As far as suffering through kids' videos goes, this one won't make you want to smash the TV (as so many of the others tend to do!).

4-0 out of 5 stars High in Sesame goodness, low in Muppet appearances
I like this tape a lot, even though it's dated (by Maria's big '80s hair!). Most of the singing takes place when the Sesame Street gang and a group of kids drag a piano up to the roof to have a sing-along with Bob and Big Bird. Workmen Biff and Sully just happen to be up there "fixing" a TV, where you get to see some terrific non-rooftop spots including Grover and the late great Madeline Kahn singing "Sing After Me," a sign-language enhanced "Sing," "We All Sing With The Same Voice," and "Doin the Pidgeon"

Maria, Gordon, Bob, Big Bird, Hoots the Owl and the kids all sing "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt," "Old MacDonald Had A Farm,""Stand Up and Pinch Your Nose," the Alphabet song, a cute upbeat number by Big Bird called "Cheer Up" and, for a grand finale, my ultimate favorite Sesame Street song, "What's The Name Of That Song."

The production values in this tape are very simple - but the focus is on the characters and their voices. Everybody gets to be who they are. I recommend this one to anybody who likes the people on Sesame Street as well as the muppets.

P.S. The video cover is a little misleading: Ernie and Bert aren't part of the sing-along: they appear separately in "Doin the Pigeon" and "Rubber Ducky." A bit of trivia - this tape started its life as a Sesame Street episode.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sing Along
Parents,
My 8 year old son likes Cookie Monster. Cookie Monster is not in this tape but this is a very funny tape. Big Bird and the gang go on top of the roof and Shirref and Selley are up fixing the t.v.(the were really try to get the anntena out of whack) This tape is dated 1987. Watch this tape and your kids will sing along. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for children and adults!
Wonderful music and comedy. My daughter, now five, has loved it since she was one. We're buying a new copy for her uncle (age 34) for his birthday because he likes it so much he covets her copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars I think I can stand to watch it again
After repeatly being subjected to one of the all Elmo all the time videos, I thought might barf if I had to watch another muppet video. Whaddaya know? This one has a mixture of old classic bits as well as a few celebrity singers (James Taylor performs a great little tune). My son enjoys this video very much(otherwise it wouldn't make the cut).

This one's a great addition to any Sesame Street collection!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Tunes, Bad Skits
My one year old son loves the song "Put Down the Duckie" so much that we sing it in the tub. (I sing; he holds up the duckie.) There were other very entertaining musical performances on the video as well.
The skits on the other hand were absolutely pointless. (Sorry, Phil.) I disliked that Grover Waiter skit even when I was a kid, and the Thirty-Nine Stairs is almost painful to watch even in fastfoward.

1-0 out of 5 stars Put down the duckie
My daughter has several Sesame Street videos and this is by far the worst. It does not capture her attention and really has nothing to do with Ernie or the duckie. It shows many adults running around singing. The only one who like this video was my husband, it brought back some memories of older episodes!!

5-0 out of 5 stars For kids of all ages
Sure, I loved these sketches when I first saw them in '87/'88 when I was (gulp!) 5 years old, but I saw them yesterday for the first time in 15 years. Of course, there were still some people who I didn't know who they were until my Mom told me, like Joe Williams, as well as Jean Marsh and Gordon Jackson from "Upstairs Downstairs".

I think my Mom wanted this more than I did. I told her she should have bought two copies: one for me and one for her.

Parents,
This video is about sounding out words, rymeing, and reading. Songs are Mud and Op. Enjoy this video/VHS,movie

5-0 out of 5 stars effective
This video shows kids how to sound out simple words. Great intro to reading for kids who know the letter sounds. The songs and skits are fun even for younger kids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sesame Phonics!
I LOVE this video. It is the only one I have seen which includes sounding out words. It made me remember how much phonics Sesame Street used to teach. I've been watching the show and haven't seen any phonics. This video has a lot of old clips and some 'new' live action to tie it together. It is fifteen years old and shows it, but I wish there were more letter sounds and phonics offerings from Sesame street.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic skit collection dealing with the ability to read.
Here is a must-have Sesame Street video, a lot for nostalgia. There are classic cartoons and muppet segments from way-back-when. Great songs and great characters liven up this great video! END ... Read more

America's favorite slave to baked goods, Cookie Monster, is the star of this very funny collection of comic sketches culled from the insatiable Muppet's tenure on Sesame Street. From the opening scene--in which the wild-eyed Cookie yields to pure impulse and devours a cookbook (rather than wait for a pastry recipe to be fully realized in his kitchen)--the longtime Children's Television Workshop character never fails to entertain with his charming anarchy. Also on the program are classic Sesame Street songs "C Is for Cookie" (and its spinoff, "C Drives Me Crazy," featuring a guest appearance by the Fine Young Cannibals), "If Moon Were a Cookie," and the touching "What Is Friend?" The high point, however, is the gravel-voiced Cookie's scene with actress Annette Bening, who helps him sort out the difference between a "Cookie Here and There." Wonderful stuff for all ages. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Here's a Cookie you can feel good about giving to your child
When Cookie Monster comes into your home on this video, trust me -- he's coming in to stay. I bought this video for my son when he was 6 months old because I thought he might like the music and the bright colors. From the first time I turned it on, he's been, to say the least, fascinated with it. The kicker is, so am I. So is my husband. So is the babysitter. From beginning to end, it's absolutely enchanting. The script and song lyrics are, by turns, clever and corny, but always charming. And believe me, those songs stick in your head long after the tape has run out! From the time-honored anthem, "C Is for Cookie" to the last song on the tape, a sorrowful little country ballad in which Cookie Monster bids his cookie adieu before he eats it, we are transported to the magical world of the muppets, where lessons of friendship, sharing, problem-solving, and patience are all neatly hidden within silliness and fun. As Cookie struggles to bake cookies for the bakery he's working in, he gives us little pieces of cookie monster wisdom -- "If you bake it, they will come." My son is now 11 months old. I let him watch this video every night before bed. He claps and bounces the minute he sees me take the tape out of the box. He stares, transfixed as the FBI warning and the Sony Wonder logo go by, and I could swear he's holding his breath. And then, as Cookie Monster magically appears on the screen, he laughs out loud. For 45 minutes, that kid doesn't move, except to glance at me occasionally with a big smile on his face as if to say, "Isn't this great?!" I worried at first that at the time my child is learning to talk, he's also idolizing a monster who, I'm pretty sure, has never uttered a grammatically correct sentence in his little muppet life -- it's the only complaint I have about the whole thing. On the other hand, if you rely on television characters to teach your child how to talk, you've got bigger problems than a few badly-placed pronouns, right?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great video !
My son loves this video, and his little sister is getting into it as well! It is really wonderful, with the usual blend of really funny humor and education that you expect from Sesame Street! Cookie Monster is so funny,a nd the script is really clever and well-done. The songs are all just top-notch. I think this is a must-have for anyone with a kid, and for those of us who are just big kids too!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining for All!
If you are looking for a video that will hold your interest as well as your child's, this is it. My 15 month old daughter will watch this video start to finish, and she loves the music, which teaches children about letters and there is a valuable song here about sharing. My husband and I are entertained, too, by Cookie Monster's desperation after eating his cookbook! A winner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Want Cookie Naaaow!!!
Above is a quote from my two-year-old about his favorite Monster. Unfortunately, he doesn't understand the concept of the public library. However, even though we rented it over two months ago, he still asks for it whenever cookies come up in conversation.

This is a terrific video for little kids and grown-up kids alike. Unlike many Sesame Street videos, the introductory footage is better than many of the clips - the idea being that Cookie Monster has been turned loose in an empty bakery. He has to overcome a lot of obstacles in order to get to his ultimate goal - EATING THE COOKIES!!! I love the bit with the cookbook; it's a terrific performance by Frank Oz in what I think is his best - or at least MY favorite - muppet role.

I enjoy the clips as well - "C is for Cookie" (if that needs an explanation, you need more PBS in your home) "C drives me Crazy" (my son's favorite - a performance by the "Fine Young Camels" - hysterical!) "If Moon Were Cookie" (sort of a lukewarm Cookie version of "I Don't Want To Live On The Moon") "What Is Friend" (not very good rapport between the two monsters - I like the live-people version better), "They Can't Take That Away From Me" (Cookie and Guy Smiley explain subtraction and the number zero) and, my favorite "Goodbye Little Cookie" which has no educational value at all, but Garrison Keillor should feature it on his show the next time he does Cowboy Poetry, it's that good.

This one's a keeper. Now I just need to buy a copy!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very funny for adults too!
Of course, when you buy videos for your child, you know you'll have to watch them too. This video is funny! My son loves cookie monster so I figured this would be a good video. My favorite part is when cookie monster is baking cookies and opening the oven every 5 seconds saying "cookies done yet?, cookies not done yet." Just wish this tape was longer like the Elmo tapes. Elmo gets a lot of tv time, why not the other characters of Sesame Street? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great fun
This is a totally fun video and my 2 yr old just loves it! Grant it, the video has no educational value, but it does provide lots of smiles for the both of us! Sometimes, it's ok to take a break from the learning and just enjoy yourself. This video is great for that kind of time!

5-0 out of 5 stars My baby's (and my) favorite
This is a great video that kept my 10 month old daughter (and me) amused and happy while she had to stay in the hospital for 3 days last month. It was a godsend. And after watching it myself for what seems like 101 times, I can honestly say that I still enjoy it. The songs are hysterical and I can't decide which is our favorite: "Get Along"-a 50's style doo-wop number led by Kermit or "La Baa-Baa"-a song led by the Count and lots of his sheep friends (that he counts at night to help him fall to sleep). Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars A perfect rainy-day video for you and your kids
This is one of the zaniest Sesame Street videos I've seen and it's a lot of fun. The "game show" setting is really just an excuse to show some wonderful clips but, as an excuse, it sure makes me laugh. Our one year-old daughter loves every minute of this insanely-educational video. And I love the guy who's just trying to get to Cincinnati.

5-0 out of 5 stars MikasMom
When my son (now 6) was teething, out of desperation, we put this video in and were amazed at the reaction -- totally mesmerized by the voices & songs.

My daughter (8 months) has totally followed in her brother's footsteps and LOVES Elmo's Sing-Along Guessing Game.

It's not just a cute video to keep her entertained. It has songs about numbers, best friends, getting along, and music that you can "dance" to. I highly recommend this video to anyone with infants on up. My son will still sit and watch it with my daughter & I find myself constantly singing along. What's better than entertainment & education?!

5-0 out of 5 stars We Love It!
My 10 month old son absolutely loves this DVD. He's been watching it since he was 4 months old and it still keeps his interest. Even my husband and I are not tired of it yet and we've seen it countless times. Elmo teaches kids the parts of their face, numbers, and about being friends! I highly recommend it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT ADAPTATION
John Grimes is a sensitive young teenager who bears the daily criticism of his step-father. As he endures the redicule, resentment and anger of this man, John tries to understand himself and the world he is to inherit.

Go Tell It On The Mountain takes us on the journey of southern Black men and women as they attempt to survive in their rural south and run away to the urban north. While up "north", you witness their escapism into sanctified religion, the pull of the streets on their children, the secrets in their hearts and the bitterness of unfulfilled dreams.

Told from the perspective of John, the viewer sees a cultural change and transition in the lives of these new residents of urban America. Join in the pulsating rhythms of the sanctified store-front churches. Feel the needs of young people who want to be free but are held in bondage by the fundamentalist mindsets of their elders. What is most intriguing about the film is Gabriel, John's step-father. His life, loss, bitterness and inability to fully accept John shows what happens to a man who has no anchor.

An outstanding cast of actors portray the characters in this great film. Even though this is an adaption of James Baldwin's work of the same name it doesn't follow the book in its entirety. We get a deeper sense of the psychological forces that shaped John's parents and their world than from the book. In fact this film enhances the book and I highly recommend its viewing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS! (in the most delightful way......)
(Althought the titles differ, I believe this is the same as Sleepy Time Songs and Stories.)

We watch this about once a week (too often and we all get bored, no?) and every time it calms my 2 year-old who then goes to sleep quickly and soundly. The songs are lovely and there is a delightful story about how the sun and the moon came to live in the sky which is narrated by Ozzie Davis. The last song is a drift-y, dreamy sequence with balloons - a nice ending.

This does not have the usual frenetic Sesame Street pace/quality but is rather sweet and very relaxing. Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, etc. (no Elmo). Excellent!

We mix this goodnight video up with Kipper, Little People, Goodnight Moon and Maisy. Sweet dreams!

4-0 out of 5 stars Bedtime Stories and Songs
My son likes this video; however, it does not help him go to sleep as of yet. Possibly its because he has a multitude of Sesame Street videos and there are parts that are re-used from different videos he already has. He is starting to get a little bored and needs some entirely new material.

4-0 out of 5 stars it really works
It is amazing how my 23 month-old girl quickly learned how tranquilizing and "soothing" this video is! She goes to her bed and waits for Big Bird to announce his methods of falling asleep... By the time the Count counts sheep, she's sound asleep! This video is just the right one for kids' bedtime! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Educational and Fun!
With the help of beloved Elmo, Sesame Street Celebrates Around The World not only entertains toddlers with festive songs and sights, it also teaches children about diverse holiday traditions from across the globe.

As a news anchorperson, Elmo converses with his cousins around the world -- Elmo lookalikes dressed adorably in international costumes -- and discovers how children commemorate the holidays. In Japan, for example, children are shown flying kites and partaking in the festive "pounding of the rice," while kids in Mexico reveal how they create a pinata and use it during their holiday parties. Each segment is highlighted with an enchanting song, and other Sesame Street regulars, such as Rosita, keep viewers involved by making appearances throughout the video.

Though Elmo lovers will no doubt be riveted to the screen, others may find it less engaging than other Sesame Street videos (such as Elmo Saves Christmas), since there is much more talking than singing, and because the Sesame Street characters are featured less prominently than the children around the world. However, if you're looking for a video that will broaden your child's horizons while broadening their Elmo video library, this is it...overall it is as fun as it is educational, worthwhile as it is entertaining. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Sing Yourself Sillier At The Movies (1998)
Parents,
This is a video tape with some comic mocvies for kids in it. My 8 year old loves Cookie Monster so I try to find video tapes that inclued him. Keep in mind you will think this is fummy to.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you love OSCAR and/or TELLY- this video is for you!
My son is 23 months old and LOVES Oscar the Grouch. I searched through the Sesame Street videos to find one in which Oscar was the primary character (my son also really likes Telly monster)- and this one features both. The "movies" that are reviewed by Oscar and Telly are not some of 'Sesame Street's' greatest, but on the whole, it's a cute video, and good for some laughs from the little people. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nobody's mentioned Taj Mahal's music background
I found the Taj Mahal musical background a very important component of this presentation. Every element is essential in the feeling one gets, but the guitar and harmonica background really enhanced this feeling story. And during the most dramatic scenes, the music definitely punctuates the action.

One can smile at the beginning with Levar Burton's portrayal of boyish enthusiasm, of yearning to have a gun of his own. And then the scenes after he gets the gun, the anticipation of the first shot are especially well done...you know something is going to happen. And then at first, you're smiling, maybe even laughing at the result of that first shot until you slowly realize with the boy what he's done. And then the aftermath in which he must make the choice as to which path into manhood to take.

There is much to absorb in this short film. Although the characters are black and the situation unique because of the racial implications, there is still much that can be applied to any person's life, regardless of time period, race, or sex.

This is one to watch, and watch a second and a third (at least) time to get all that is there.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE SEARCH FOR MANHOOD
At fifteen going on sixteen the only thing that Dave wants is to become a man. Tired of plowing the hard ground and sick of the lack of respect he gets from his elders, Dave sees his way of becoming a man by having a gun. A gun has power and will give him the respect he needs.

The dramatization of the short story "Almos' A Man" by Richard Wright places before us the struggle of a young Black boy trying to come into manhood in an environment destined to break his spirit. This coming of age story shows the struggle of an adolescent coming into manhood which is common to all young boys. In this story the struggle is much deeper because we have a Black youth who must deal not only with his personal struggle but also that of a racist environment.

Levar Burton gives an excellent performance of this young boy struggling to come into his manhood. Madge Sinclair plays his stern mother who is willing to bend a little even if her husband disagrees. While watching this story you will be shown the struggles that Black parents have to endure to try and keep their children safe as well as the inner promptings of Dave's misguided sense of what it means to be a man.

Circumstances back fire on Dave as he sees that he lacks the maturity to handle certain things. So what can he do? Where can he go? Can a young Black boy become a man in hostile southern territory especially since he has become a wage slave to the white farmer? Wright challenges us to reflect on this question. Dave's rebelliousness is more than the usual stage of adolescent development. The mere fact of his race makes his choices narrower. Sit back, relax and enjoy "Almos' A Man". See how a boy in a limited world tries to become that which is denied to him and his people.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Richard Wright excerpt
I am compelled to counter the lone other reviewer with his unfortunate failure to comprehend this superb dramatization of an excerpted passage from Wright's novel, BLACK BOY, now recognized as a modern classic.

Shown as part of the American Short Story series on PBS and, yes, introduced by a fragile and ailing Henry Fonda, the portrayal of a young black man's desire to own a gun, a symbol of what will make him a man, misfires literally and otherwise. The accident leads the boy to flee his home to escape the punishment of the landowner and the fine imposed, and yes, we may wish to know what happens to him, but his running--almos' into manhood--to catch the train, may take him north for safety and a kind of freedom.

Levar Burton, the young star of ROOTS, gives a splendid performance and was likely cast as a result of his popularity following the enormous success of the Haley novel.

The entire series is a masterpiece of the dramatization of short fiction and included "Bernice Bobs Her Hair," F. Scott Fitzgerald's early story starring Shelley Duvall and Bud Cort, "I'm a Fool," the Sherwood Anderson classic starring Ron Howard (before his directing days), and "Who am I this Time," the Vonnegut delight with Christopher Walken and Susan Sarandon.

I recall, too, that during one season of this showcase, the introductions were done by Colleen Dewhurst.

Were these to be re-run on prime time, they would hold up quite beautifully; with such great works of literature treated reverently by directors and actors, why wouldn't they.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor marketing in action
Why, I ask, wasn't this massively cross-referenced mini-feature grouped with (at least a couple) others in the series? This apparently aired on TV, and my sleeve claims a 51-minute duration, which could perhaps be cut in half to be accurate. Henry Fonda gives an almost random, less than riveting introduction, and the actual feature suggests that the short story on which this is based may have taken up all (or most) of 2.5 pages. The story is very simple, so that children may understand it, though the adolescent target audience would be quite a stretch today. The whole thing (especially the open ending) just confused me. I sat waiting for the "second half" until the end-of-tape auto-rewind function dashed my hopes. This could be the very antithesis of "Roots". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Elmo Says Boo
My 20 month old loves this video. I cannot count the number of times that we have watched it!

The video takes place at The Counts castle, which I was afraid might be a little scary for my son. However, things out of the ordinary are explained by The Count and accepted by Elmo, who was frightened by them at first.

In true Sesame Street fashion numbers 1-15 are presented as well. There is also a good mix of jokes, which my son will like as he gets older, with songs that he enjoys right now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Seasonal fun, and a favorite!
Our daughter, at 7 months, is already addicted to Elmo (so much for "no TV before age 2"), and has a big attention span when it comes to his videos. She really enjoys this one--more than just "Elmo's World" but less than her favorite, the "Elmo in Grouchland Sing and Play" video.

The video's plot is simple--Elmo has come to the Count's castle for a visit, and to trade "spooky" jokes. Everyone in the castle takes part--a skeleton, a pipe organ, the bats. In the usual format, song clips and sketches are introduced. They include the Count singing the "Batty Bat" (that's a favorite) and the Ernie and Bert in Egypt sketch.

Funny, I never even stopped to consider whether or not it was too scary! Our daughter wasn't frightened at all. Other reviewers are saying that their toddlers are a bit scared by this one, so maybe next year (we're putting it away 'til next Halloween) we'll get different results!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for lovers of Elmo and The Count!
My daughter has been watching this video since she was about 9 months old. She absolutely LOVES it! She loves to say "Boo!" at the beginning when the narrator read the title and she giggles like crazy after she says it. The video is a great balance among muppet/kid sections, songs and muppet skits. My daughter has never been scared of it, maybe because she started watching it early on. If you, as a parent, like Halloween, then this is a great video to share with your child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for kids who love The Count!
This video is perfect for Halloween--and any other time of the year too! My son (17 months old) loves watching this video, as one of his favorite characters is The Count, and he is featured throughout the video. This video is not really scary, although there is a semi-realistic-looking skeleton that talks. The ghosts in this video are too cute to be scary. If your child likes The Count and/or Elmo, this video is sure to be a hit. It includes everything kids love about Sesame Street--lots of singing and a host of characters that entertain the little ones!

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting!
I've watched this video hundreds of times, my son just adores it. The video is a series of songs sung by Big Bird and his friends. All the songs are produced really well, great lyrics and melodies. This is a good choice for small children, especially Sesame Street fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply excellent
I tend to judge videos by how tolerable they are to listen to for the parent. This one is plain enjoyable, even for a grouch like me. See concise review above for details.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you love Big Bird, this is for you!
In this 30-minute video, you will find some of your favorite Big Bird songs. Included are great classic '70s songs like "AB-C-DEF-GHI", "I Just Adore Four", and "Wheels on My Feet". Other fine songs contained here are "The Map Song", "Big Bird Can't Fly", and "Rhyme Out". For those into nostalgia, there is an extremely rare clip from the late '70s of Big Bird singing "What's Your Name?" inside a school. If you love Sesame Street, and Big Bird, you have to check this out! END ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Elmo'sWorld Video Out There!
We have a collection of Elmo videos, as our son loves him. The Great Outdoors is by far the best! It features wild animals, the farm, and weather, and is catchy and upbeat. Definitely a winner!

2-0 out of 5 stars My least favorite....
My kids really love Elmo and his DVD's, but this one is a little scarey. Some of the animals, and even some of the stormy weather scenes are a little intense for sensitive viewers. There are definitely better Elmo DVD"s out there.

1-0 out of 5 stars elmos great outdoors
loses my 16 month old daughter's interest in the first 3 minutes. Would not recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for kids and adults
Our 18 month old loves this DVD. He is not scared at the section with the big bad wolf at all - maybe because he is too young for the Little Red Riding Hood stories. We have several Elmo DVD's and this one is much easier on our ears than some of the others. I have to admit that the "wiggle" song is actually quite catchy - don't be surprised if you catch yourself singing it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Preschoolers know what THEY like!
To contrast the other less-than-favorable reviews, I had to add my "thumbs up" rating for this superbly educational tape from the Sesame Street folk. Long being an admirer of the cute Muppet known as "Elmo", I couldn't wait to watch this one with my four-year-old niece and her two-year-old brother. Both kids are totally captivated by Elmo's informative and entertaining "lessons" on animals in the wild.

Elmo is definitely a kid favorite.

The creators of this lovable character realize that his wide-eyed enthusiasm and infectious laugh are the perfect blend to tap into the innocence and curiosity of children. The late Michael Jeter is also on hand as the childlike "Mr. Noodles" who also knows a thing or two about engaging little minds.

All children are different and while a few may be "frightened" by the big bad wolf, I can assure you that my two young relatives found nothing terrifying at all in this wonderful tape. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best we own!
We own about 10-12 Sesame Street DVD's and this is by FAR the best of them!!!
The songs are great! My 5 month old loves this CD! Not just for older children. My husband and I enjoy it, as well!
I end up singing the catchy tunes at the office... an unfortunate side effect...

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock & Roll
Parents,
My 8 year old boy loves Cookie Monster but Cookie Monster is not in this that much. But this is a very good video. This video tape is very rare. It is so rare it has a small miunte part with the Count's wife the Countess in it. If you have this video you are very lucky.

5-0 out of 5 stars My kids love it, and so do I
The songs on this video are excellent kids versions of
cool rock songs. They did a great job rendering them
for little ears - so much so that I find myself humming
the tunes myself after watching the video with the kids.
And of course, everything is visually engaging in true
Sesame Street fashion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll
I grew up watching Sesame Street for many years. Now I'm 18 and I still think it rocks. On this tape you'll find the GREATEST song ever written by the legendary Jim Henson. It's called "you're Alive" and it taught your children about what was alive and what wasn't. This video will prove to you that learning doesnt have to be painstaking. Your kids (maybe yourselves too) will realise that learning is a pleasure with awesome songs and tapes like this one....END

5-0 out of 5 stars A most enjoyable learning video
I first purchased it in 1990 for my first grand daughter and she loved it. Next I bought one for her to take home. When her sister came along she also loved it and now their youngest sister also loves it. Unfortunately, it finally wore out and now I can't find a new one anywhere. The video consists of favorite rock and roll song tunes with lyrics about learning different things for example The Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" is called "cooperation". I highly recommend this video if anyone can find it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Diversity - Sesame Style
In a recent interview, Sonia Manzano (Maria) said she didn't realize until she was touring that many people in the US had never seen a Latino other than on Sesame Street.

As a half-Latin Midwesterner who grew up in the '70s, I can attest that this aspect of Sesame Street made a big difference in my life. This video is all about this wonderful side of Sesame Street.

Herry Monster anchors a "Monster Report" about kids, which cuts to a series of song clips like "Skin," "Fixing My Hair," and "Faces;" and then bring things back around to show Gladys the Cow and Buster the Horse singing "Different Yet the Same" and rounds it all off with "We All Sing With the Same Voice" Terrific handling of a touchy subject.

My toddler loves this video, and I do, too - and it has Elmo in it for the diehards. It's out of print - buy it if you can find it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Musical news report
A delightful and highly entertaining news report about kids by Herry Monster (with Elmo and Telly) interspersed with songs that describe our differences (hair color, eye color, skin color) and emphasize our similarities. My seven month old loves it and has been watching it for the past 3 months.

2-0 out of 5 stars Outdated
A very disappointing video. One or two good songs but the rest are so outdated you will laugh. The images of little kids dressed in 70s apparal alone is enough for this to be redone. Considering it came out in 1994, this looks like a rush to video production rather than a well planned one like is usually the case from these folks. Avoid it. ... Read more
