3-0 out of 5 stars A QUANDARY FOR MS. SIEMASZKO
The lovely Nina Siemaszko is faced with the quandary of choosing between two adept lovers, the suave continental Phillipe or a wholesome all American type who is just a delivery boy to the office where she works. However, the latter does get her into an elevator where he shows her, to her delight, just how adept he is. Phillipe, though, is no fool and can make her wiggle with delight in bed too. Plenty of nipple kissing and simulated sex here. She resolves the quandry by dumping both. I would suggest that another solution would be to have her engage in what the adult film industry calls a DP.

I've been into this Red Shoe-concept since its inception, mostly due to the presence of David Duchovny, so I've viewed a good many of these segments. The segment involving Richard Tyson is absolutely a breed apart from most anything I've seen in the soft-core category. Maybe all that means is that I've led a sheltered life. In any case, I've (watched ...) this video more than once, and I strongly encourage others to view it as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT SOFT CORE FILM
An excellent soft core film from the Showtime Red Shoe Diaries series, not all of which are on video. High production values and a pretty good plot. It's always a pleasure to see Nina Siemaszko, a very beautiful and sexy woman, in action. I recently saw her in "Sinatra" where she does a pretty good job portraying Mia Farrow, one of Sinatra's wives.

This camp spectacle stars Sherilyn Fenn (Boxing Helena) as an upper-crust Southern belle who abandons the posh life for sex on the road with a carny worker. Naturally, the older folk (Burl Ives, Louise Fletcher) take exception. Typically silly, soft-porn stuff from director Zalman King (Wild Orchid), this erotic joke of a movie is good for putting one's busy brain on hold for awhile. Colorful support from Kristy McNichol as a cowgirl, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and the late Hervé Villechaiz (Fantasy Island). --Tom Keogh ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lust, sex, deception and the old South
This fairly erotic movie features strong performances by Sherilyn Fenn, who displays quite a bit of skin in the movie, Louise Fletcher, the late Burl Ives, and a surprisingly not bad looking Kristy McNichol, in a tale of lust, sex, and the old South.
Without giving the plot away, Fenn is a girl who can't say no to an all teeth, tanned, and long haired carnival worker; befor she marries into an upper class Southern families (or better to say merges the two families). (And she has the nerve to wear white!) Her grandmother and the local sheriff and friend of the family (Ives)have other ideas. There is a fairly hot dancing sequence with Fenn and McNichol (who definitely left any traces of her character on "Family" behind, exposing a little skin of her own; though she's clearly overmatched, bodywise, by Fenn). Not a bad movie, I wonder how the sequel will be.

5-0 out of 5 stars An erotic story for women
I went to see this film in a movie theater when it was released. A man in the audieance yelled out "What is the point of this?" during the movie. Honey, there is no point. Zalman King's movies typically are geared toward male sexual fantasies, but this film will appeal more to women. Sherilyn Fenn is gorgeous and Richard Tyson will have women drooling. This is what porn should look like, from a woman's point of view. Every woman friend that I know that has seen this has liked it. The plot is questionable, like plots are in a lot of Zalman King's films, but it is erotic and steamy visually. Check out "Red Shoe Diaries" & "Delta of Venus" for more hot and sexually charged visuals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chick Flick Indeed
OK. So it's either a masterpiece or cheesy soft porn. This is still one of the best chick flicks to see after a break-up. I own it now and watched it for the first time while in a long-term relationship. It still works. The cinematography is beautiful, the costumes are white and the story is timeless. What woman wouldn't want to cross over to the dark side if she can encounter someone like Richard Tyson? Yum! Besides, men can appreciate Sherilyn Fenn and women can see the full monty, although not Tyson's. Order a pizza, pour a diet Coke or Pepsi, invite your female friends and just enjoy.

2-0 out of 5 stars hardly worth it
I picked this film up after seeing Fenn in Kiss of the Beast. The love-making and overall acting of this one are both very weak! It's basically a cheesy romance novel with no heat. They need to make Kiss of the Beast into a DVD version. That film is much better!

4-0 out of 5 stars about the movie two moon junction.......
This movie is basically about the actress whom at first gouing to marry someone but got 'intimated' with another man whom work in the fun park(something like knots Berry farm) and then he switched job top become a dish washer after he went to the actress home to bathe without her consent to enter the house. The story ends with him almost killed by 'rangers' during the time when the actress is about the get married(excution plan ordered by the actress family members). The last part shows that she in the end went to the actor's place to bathe and this concludes the story. There are two sex scenes in this movie as I've seen the Malaysian bootleg version DVD9(as good as code 1's clarity) after my friend brought back from there. For those whom are interested in this genre of movie by Zalman King....recommended purchase...... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars for fans of steven bauer
I usually don't watch these kind of skinnemax movies, but my sister convinced me to after telling me about the hot sex scenes with way-too-hot-for-words, Steven Bauer, the sexiest man alive! He is featured in the first story with Joan Severance. I felt their chemistry was ok and Steven's timing was impeccable when my sister yelled out "drop the pants!" he did! No frontal nudity gals, unfortunately, this country is still too conservative to show men that way when they exploit women over and over again. I first saw Bauer in "Thiefs of Hearts" and was taken by how this actor could manipulate his eyes so effectively and subtley. Oh, and that MILLION $ SMILE! Any fans of his will notice that in his sex scenes he likes the woman on top :) I only wish this film had him in all 3 stories. I could not stand the last one, the female protagonist was trying so hard to turn this guy on and all the while he looks/acts like an ugly cold fish! STEVEN BAUER is the man with all the chemistry. Hands down. Enjoy watching him, and forget about the others. Safira from Mississippi

3-0 out of 5 stars Double Dare, for Vosloo fans.
I agree with the other reviewers who felt this was definitely a film for Vosloo watchers. The film is essentially sexual fantasy for women. (I disagree with the reviewer who felt the introduction of a second female into one of the scenarios made it a male directed film. Men generally make fewer demands on story line in their fantasy films than was exhibited here, and not all women are opposed to a menage a tois at least in a fantasy.) The first two vignettes were a little too forceful for my taste, but then I am inclined to subtlety and am probably more than a little prudish, despite over 20 years as a nurse. I also felt that the graphic sexuality of the first two stories commandeered ones imagination and forced it along lines designed by the director, a fact that I found more than a little irritating although others may not. The third story, while not necessarily neglecting visual sexuality, was much more provocative, leaving more unsaid and more for the viewer to fill in for themselves. Mr. Vosloo was simultaneously charming, daring and vulnerable, revealing a definite flare for romantic characterization. It seems odd that he has not been given more roles along these lines since this film was made.

3-0 out of 5 stars A review from a Vosloo fan
"Double Dare" is definitely the best of the three skits. A man and a woman flirt from their window at work (at night) and by faxing messages to each other, dare each other to more and more intimate performances. This is supposed to be a woman's fantasy, seen from her perspective, and up until the very end, she is the one calling the shots. Arnold Vosloo looks embarrassed in some of the scenes and I'm not sure if he is exhibiting real embarrassment, or if he was playing the role that way... it's hard to fake a blush though. Another mystery about this video, is that it is supposed to be derived from real women's sexual fantasies, but while the stories ring true, the photographer is definitely filming for a male audience. For instance, the main female character faxes the pans to the woman touching herself instead... and the camera really lingers on her breasts. When you finally see the male character, he has his arms crossed across his chest... in other words, he's definitely not touching anything (maybe that wasn't in Arnold's contract). Another confusing moment is when Arnold's character brings a third party into the game (which obviously destroys the feeling of safety for her)-- I couldn't help but wonder if this was really a woman's fantasy or a man's.

On the plus side, I love it that Arnold's character in this skit is satisfyingly assertive without being overly aggressive... that felt right. Freedom to explore without pressure was the main theme of this particular fantasy, and I liked that a lot (it wasn't a twisted control issue like the skit before it which I found disturbing).

Arnold Vosloo has a gentle quality about him, but he has a strange characteristic that I've noticed in all his roles, and this one is no exception. He has a tendency to smile when you would expect anger or hurt, and paradoxically, he'll be serious when you expect humor or happiness. Maybe that's why he usually plays the bad guy, because his emotional reactions are kind of unsettling.

Fans of David Duchovney will probably appreciate his cameo in this video as well... he is not seen for more than a couple of minutes between skits, but there is a sweetness about him that is compelling.

1-0 out of 5 stars only because of Arnold!
I only want this movie because of Arnold Vosloo but after reading so many reviews that he appears only fleetingly, I wasn't looking forward to it. I adore that chocolate-melting-in-my-mouth voice of his and that sexy accent and if you're crazy about AV like the rest of us, you're better off buying Diary of a Serial Killer from Amazon (who gave me top-notch service after my DVD was found to be faulty!)As expected,RSD 2 is disappointing and comes off clearly as a flick those guys had to do just to get into a movie. Thank goodness Mummy came along for AV! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
David Duchovny hosts three more episodes of the popular adult series. Contains the episodes: "The Psychiatrist," "Four on the Floor," and "Emily's Dance."

Segment: "The Psychiatrist." Linda, the client played by Demetra Hampton (Valentina [1988]), picks up men on trains and in hotel bars and accepts money for various active and passive sex acts but contends that it's the psychiatrist with the problem. Linda asserts, "You sit there in your big chair and listen but you feel nothing." The "Psychiatrist" (Denise Crosby) writes to Red Shoes lamenting, "Whom does he psychiatrist talk to?" (Actually, the role looks more like that of a psychologist, because she seems to rely on logo therapy rather than drugs.) The Psychiatrist goes to the hotel bar and hooks up with the same man (Georges Corraface) replicating the experience of Linda. On "The Man's" prompts, she progressively removes items of her clothing, accepting various amounts of money for each garment. But eventually she turns the tables on him by demanding that he touch her. Has she gotten in over her head or can she manage a real relationship with him? Segment: "Four on the Floor." An old movie featuring two couples who engage in group sex while on a vacation far from home serves as the inspiration for the story. The Red Shoes correspondent (Rachel Palmieri, I think) reports having seen the movie during a break from final exams preparations at college. Later, when she and her lover are involved in a car accident while on a double date with their best friends, they have to take shelter from the rain in an old abandoned building. Of course, they must all remove their rain-soaked clothing and huddle together to keep warm. Is history (as told in the movie) about to repeat itself? Segment: "Emily's Dance." Emily (Kent Masters King) is an aspiring dancer. Her technique is excellent and the film makers like her looks, but she can't let herself "get into" her performance. She gets a tryout on a project directed by Zalman King (Himself), who is assisted by Ashley Lowengrub (Herself) and which is choreographed by Tony Ciulla (Himself). Freedom Williams is the lead male dancer who also coughs up the rap stuff in the background. He sees her talent and tries to push her over the line where she will finally be free to express herself through her dance. Will he succeed or just break her spirit?...

3-0 out of 5 stars Not sure if this is same version? Different Box
The one I have, I like the first story best with Denise Crosby from Star Trek Next Generation. She plays a psychiatrist and mimics her patient's wild adventure, except she is better. It is called The Psychiatrist. The next one is called Four on the Floor like the title, it is sexy, but as the other reviewer stated these are soft porn. The last one is Emily's Dance, it is really sexy dancing. The first story is the best. I was going to put it up for sale here, but since it has a different box, I will put it up in auctions with a picture.

4-0 out of 5 stars My Review
This is one of the best porno movies that i have ever purchased it has some of the best details. And the picture is so CLEAR. The movie has some of the hottest girls I have yet to see in a movie. The one thing i didn't like about this movie is their wasn't enough hardcore. It was just a lot of softcore. I would strongly recemend this movie if you are into softcore, but i would look for something else if you want hardcore. ... Read more

The first story is an Olympic Swimmer and a lifeguard, beautiful underwater photography and a lot of it. Most of the half hour was underwater, total body nudity. The second story involved a lot of skydiving. I hadn't seen the man with the large tatoo in the first story but he is in the second. I imagine making love on parachute silks would be fairly erotic. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing
I watched it twice in one night because I enjoyed it so. Much of the movie takes place in a radio station in the back of a traveling semi, but the location doesn't even matter. For those of you who enjoy the nuances of the human voice, get this, and just listen to it. There is a series of stories told, which intertwine beautifully, and are told over, through, and around the radio broadcast. Beyond that, I don't want to give more away. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
I am certainly a fan of Zalman King and his work. I admit, I had to watch this film twice, as it wasn't until the end, that I completely understood what was going on. The second time around was wonderful. Very well done. I particularily enjoyed how, the film focussed on voices, and especially Donna De Lory and partner Cameron Stone, who's contribution enlightened and enhanced the intrigue ... added color and managed to add yet another dimension to the story and how it was being described by the main actress. Watch it a second time, and even a third to catch all the nuances. Another brilliant movie, and another different way of describing and feeding our inner desires, need, vulnerabilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hauntingly Beautiful
I caught this one on a late night cable channel. I didn't know what to expect but the first few minutes caught me and I couldn't look away.
This is a story about an Heiress who managed to get away from her ruthless drug lord father and escape to the states. The story is laid out from her perspective and she incorperates the lives of two other women that she knew as a result of working at a coffee shop.
I can see how this may be a bit confusing at first because the storyteller is a blind radio pirate who is actually the heiress. She tells her story only at night in hopes of luring her father to her.
In the heiress's story, which to me is the only one that matters, Her brother was kidnapped and murdered and her mother committed suicide by driving drunken off a cliff. Then the young blonde girl is sent away from home because it is no longer safe. In this segment she realizes that her mother should have had a driver when she crashed and that leads her to believe that her father murdered her mother. The heiress runs from the 'bodygaurd' and gets away only because of a young asian man who distracts the men while she escapes.
Later in the states she meets up with this asian man and they fall in love and plan to move to another city where her father can't find them.
Then one night before they leave her father's men attack the coffee shop in hopes of kidnapping her, they mortally wound the asian man and before he dies he kills the man forcing the heiress into the car and she escapes.
From that day on due to the trauma she goes blind.

I'm not sure how long from this instance till she decides to tell her story via pirate radio, but she looks older to me.

That is only the heiress' story there are two other's to follow as well. This was beautifully orchastrated, and a jewel to watch. I love it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Zalman King must be stopped
Caught this late at night (where it belonged). A complete and total tease. Music video editing, incomprehensible plots--ponderous and stultifyingly pretentious.

I have a theory that [stuff] like this and the "Red Shoe Diaries" actually drives people TO hardcore pornography.
ALRIGHT ALREADY--JUST GET TO IT!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting film
I had never heard of pirate radio stations before watching this movie. I found the idea of a beautiful pirate radio host traveling the streets of Los Angeles in a fully armed 18 wheeler a bit strange at first, but it all makes sense at the end. The lead actress was so beautiful, so ethereal, so melancholy that I empathized with the men who protected and loved her. I never saw the Red Shoe Diaries (the director directed that series) but I've heard good things about it and I found this story to be surprisingly entertaining with the voices of the lead actress and Sally Kellerman (who is still sexy after all these years) and Donna De Lory's soundtrack to be both haunting and soothing. I highly recommend getting Ms. De Lory's album, "Bliss," to enjoy this wonderful performer. As erotica, though, the movie is quite tame, and the comedianne part was somewhat of a disappointment because her jokes weren't funny and they didn't show enough of her to really get a sense of her erotic nuances. Thus the four star rating rather than a five. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Plot Summary
Plot Summary for
Wild Orchid II: Two Shades of Blue (1992)

Blue is a teenage girl who lives with her Jazz playing father Ham. Ham gets very sick and dies, and now Blue must support herself somehow. Elle, the headmistress at a brothel, talks her into living and working at her establishment. She decides to leave the business and lead a normal life. Elle is hellbent to see that she never has one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Erotic coming of age flick
This is an erotic coming of age film set in 1958 in the central valley in California.I believe the whorehouse is the big mansion in Isleton that is rented out even today for fraternity formals like the one I attended there in 1985. It has been used in numerous adult films.

Blue McDonald is the teenage daughter to a jazz horn player ( played by Tom Skerrit) who is hooked on heroin. His addiction kills him and Blue is left to fend for herself and falls into the hands of a madame known as Elle.

Blue tries to make herself immune to what she is doing and suceeds- until a boy comes in. A boy she has seen twice before with her father and then on her own.A boy who just sees her as a girl, a girl he wants to know more. Not the whore she is now.

After a disturbing incident with a senator intent on making her the star of a blue flick- Blue is rescued by her madame's muscle nicely underplayed by Robert Davi ( from The Profiler). They leave town so BLue can live a normal life as a high school student- and pick up a real relationship with the boy she likes. Of course the path to love is not smooth....her past comes to haunt her.

Eroticism not gratuitous nudity is the theme- the sex scenes are shot with beautiful camera angles- there is minimal full nudity. Some artful shots in the whorehouse of the various girls working with their clients- very strong voyeuristic angles. As a woman I find the scenes more sensual than sexual- guys may not find the film more than slightly titillating. As typical of Zalman Kings Red Shoe Diaries- this movie plays well for women who enjoy sexuality and sensuality but need a storyline and some acting to sell the whole package.

Wild Orchid 2 is nothing like Wild Orchid with Carrie Otis and Mickey O'Roarke. This does stand on its own as long as you take it for what it is.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tragic Zalman King erotica
Zalman King follows up the sizzling Wild Orchid with a sequel that is not a sequel, it's about completely different characters in a different setting. But that's OK, I guess it's a sequel of subject matter, in the same way he produces his Red Shoe Diaries series. And this movie does succeed as a tale about misbegotten lovers trapped in a mire of loss and sexual confusion.
I didn't appreciate the attractive Nina Siemaszko (who later appeared in a Red Shoe Diaries episode) the first time I saw her in the role of the tragic heroine of this story. She kind of disappointed after Carre Otis, but you do sympathize with her situation. She and her dad are smalltown southern people. They are very close, then he dies and she is left penniless and without any skills. Enter the madam of the bordello played by Wendy Hughes. She offers Nina a chance at riches and sexual liberation by becoming one of her girls. Nina reluctantly accepts.
She is introduced to a world of sexual deviancy that is not without its victims, as there are girls who try to leave this life and are punished. She plays two roles to one of her young clients, that of mysterious and seductive prostitute, and that of sweet young girl who has fallen in love with him. That he can't tell it's the same person is ludicrous, but it's for the sake of the story. Naturally, family disapproval and heartache follows.
I appreciated Nina Siemaszko more eight or so years after seeing this movie the first time. The unrated version does show a bit more flesh, but is not necessary to appreciate the story. ... Read more

Back when he wasn't relegated to the lesser cable channels,soft-porn meister Zalman King uncorked this howler of a drama on moviegoers, whowere initially titillated by the ratings battle, but then shrugged and went off in search of the next cheap sensation. Model and subsequent Mickey Rourke squeeze Carré Otis plays a brilliant young attorney--well, we're told she's brilliant, although watching her in action, straining to wrap those puffy lips around her legalese dialogue, definitely conjures up other adjectives. She's dispatched to Rio de Janeiro under the guise of real-estate law and ends up seduced both by the exotic culture and by a brooding, highly misunderstood and frighteningly orange-skinned multimillionaire (Rourke). Kinky (for the time) sex games and deliriously mannered dialogue make this a ratherpretentious exercise, unleavened by any truly erotic sensuality. 3-0 out of 5 stars Wild Orchid - both versions
WILD ORCHID was released in 1990 surrounded by controversy that the sex scenes between Carre Otis and Mickey Rourke were not faked. They were a couple at the time, and it is possible that there is some truth to the rumor, but in the end does it matter?

It's a typical Zalman King affair -- rather thin plot revolving around some business intrigue and mostly a sexual awakening of a girl from the country traveling to Rio. The setting provides incredible material for the brilliant cinematography, and the music is sexy and moody. A very fun role for Jacqueline Bisset, but unfortunately too little for anyone else to do other than pose and preen ... and ... well... do love scenes. Zalman King movies are soft and sensuous, and revolve around mood and sex scenes. Don't expect anything more than well-photgraphed love scenes, and you will be fine.

To all you DVD geeks out there (like me) -- edge enhancemnet is at an all-time high here. Colors are good, and its nice to see this movie in widescreen format. You get both the R-rated version and the unrated versions, but this is done on sides of the disc and not by branching. You get a 2 channel stereo mix that is not very good, but probably the original soundtrack without any remastering (pity because this one needs the extra ooomph in the sound department). Grain and print flaws are obvious, the film shows its age in the transfer. But at the low retail price fans of the movie will like it, but certainly not a demo disc by any means.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mickey Rourke and Carre Otis HEAT up the screen
Ok, I'll just state first that the film isn't the best your ever going to see, and there might be some scenes in the movie that are ok, but once you get past that and be a bit forgiving- you are going to LOVE this steamy, excitable film. First off the scenery and the music are just beautiful and captavating. From the moment I saw Mickey Rourke and Carre Otis I was hooked. Both are uniquely interesting. Mickey Rourke is HOT, and Carre Otis is sensational and beautiful as attorney emily reed. When these two come together, for the duration of the story I desperatly wanted these two to get together and boy I was not disappointed. The atmosphere and scenery are steamy and sensual, and the main love theme is excellent I LOVE IT. And if you want to see these two in action your head is going to blow off. I have not seen a sex scene shot so superbly, sexy and beautiful in my life, with a soundtrack to complement it beautifully. And for the die hard fans who buy this YOU GET BOTH VERSIONS OF THE UN-RATED AND THE R-RATED VERSIONS OF THE FILM. The R-rated is just as mesmerising as the un-rated one, it is maybe more passionate, more kissing and holding each other which I LOVE and can't get over. I'm SO in Love with this movie and scenes from this film are mesmerising. Mickey and Carre are excellent. I'v read reviews where Carre Otis is put down, but in my opinion I don't believe a word of it. Carre Otis is the BEST. A very talented actress, a beautiful women and model. I loved Carre as Emily Reed, no one else could of played Emily as well as Carre. She has a special quality to her that leaves you wanting more, to watch more of her. Good work from Zalman King.- And who could forget the end scene when Wheeler finally gives in and surrenders to Emily. That moment from when she goes to leave and he embraces her which leads to the love scene, anyone that see's that scene will instantly love this film.

5-0 out of 5 stars wild as it may seem
this is the definitive zalman king classic which follows on the heels of o'rourke's last erotc drama 9 1/2 weeks. no, this is not a sequel & the two films have little in common. while orchid may be flawed, it is certainly an entertaining & beautiful film which i'm sure you could watch over & over. carre otis plays the newcomer here & she has the expressions down pat even though some of her lines are delivered quite like we'd hope. jacqueline bisset is beautiful & fun to watch even though most of the screen time is focused on o'rourke & otis, whom eventually married & divorced in real life. carre otis plays emily reed, who has just accepted a position as a legal assistant under bisset & the two are off to rio de janiero. yes, that's right! brazil!! it's everything you'd ever hoped it would be so mr. king did a wonderful job with the sights & sounds. brazil was truly a daydream come true. as i'm getting off the subject a bit here, bisset throws emily off of o'rourke by making her wear the dress he initially had given to her many years back. as you can guess, o'rourke does find ms. reed completely charming & attractive but somehow cannot bring himself to show his true emotions. in the beginning of the film, he is also unable to touch her as he is emotionally withdrawn from the world. will she ever be able to break through this exterior to find real wheeler inside(o'rourke) or will she not? like 9 1/2 or red shoe diaries which are both projects zalman has worked on, wild orchid is very erotic & almost what you might consider borderline softcore pornography although far more complex & even a bit artsy. if you love passionate love stories with a twist, then wild orchid is a must see. i have no favorite scenes to mention here as i love the film in it's entirety. at such an affordable price, you too should own wild orchid if you don't already. much love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Compelling story!
I absolutely love this movie! MICKEY ROURKE does a GREAT job and I liked Carre Otis too - they DEFINITELY have chemistry! - it's NOT your ordinary love story but it pulls you in and keeps you there. Add in great music (I bought the CD too), and beautiful scenery - well, I'll be watching this movie a lot!

5-0 out of 5 stars an art movie, if you look closely enough
Wild Orchid gave me a headache when I first saw it over a decade ago - what was all of this psychological drama? It quickly occured to me that I was watching an art film. There are scenes of sexuality that are mistaken by many as "soft core porn". I disagree -- every scene advances the story for the characters, and it is tastefully done in every instance. There is also a misconception that Mickey Rourke plays a "macho multimillionaire" -- no, he plays a sexually impotent multimillionaire that finds the will to love. This is a beautiful story, with strong characters set in an amazing city... a work of art, if you ask me. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not for the faint of heart
This movie, as with all of Zalman King's, has its weaknesses, but of them all, this is the best. I never fail to find it empowering, beautiful, envigorating, and, of course, scintillating to watch. Very few of this type of movie reach an emotional level as well as a physical level, and as such, very few are truly aimed at the thinking and feeling woman. Even Red Shoes and the Wild Orchid series (don't forget Shades of Blue) miss at times and sink to the common standard of male oriented meaningless sex. This movie, based on a novel that is about nothing but the meaning of sexual exploration and emotional risk, rises far above the norm to be a cornerstone in any woman's video library. Anais Nin would have been pleased.

5-0 out of 5 stars A flowing, beautiful, and delightfully erotic film.
Those who are familiar with Zalman King know that he is one of the few directors who is able to create erotically stimulating films without sacrificing production quality, cinemtography and acting. Delta of Venus is, in my opinion, his greatest accomplishment as the film flows with poetic motion, draws sumptuous romanticism from its setting in pre-World War II Paris, offers a lovely musical soundtrack, and excites the viewer with beautiful actors who interact with splendid chemistry.

If you are looking for a simple sex film or a picture exploding with action, this is not the film for you. It moves at a purposefully slow pace, like generous foreplay, leading the audience through a series of visual and auditory climaxes. It will appeal mostly to women, but also to men who delight in the slow, attentive pleasuring of a woman.

Although the R-rated version of the movie is well worth seeing, it does not compare to the unrated copy, which bursts with scenes that will propel any couple into a torrid evening of lovemaking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Visual poetry
"Delta of Venus" is beautifully filmed. The production values are exquisite. The acting is excellent. The character development is strong. And, yes, it is truly erotic. Beautifully and sensually erotic. The voice-over is softly and touchingly done, and the narration itself uses very poetic language. The editing is first rate. This is not just a good erotic movie. It's a good movie period. I warn you, though. You must be in the right frame of mind to appreciate it. You have to be mentally and emotionally prepared to immerse yourself in this beautiful delirium. I'm a harsh critic of so-called erotic films (check out my review of "The Image"). So believe me when I say, this one is a real winner!

5-0 out of 5 stars Splendid
I too am a huge fan of Zalman King's, and this is by far the most beautiful film he has ever done. I am now spolied beyond repair.

Beautiful, supremely erotic, evocative, and so real... I can't say enough about this film. The historical references to the war are well researched and depicted, the people are gorgeous. It's an intelligent and very well directed film. I am stunned that I waited until this came out on DVD to see it.

4-0 out of 5 stars about the movie delta of venus.....
What I can remember a little about this movie is that the movie in the end is something about the escape after the war broke out and what I know is that, this movie at NC17 did not contain explicit, very violent or sex sceneS. What I can say is that it contains two sex scenes inside, one is a few minutes after starting the movie and the other is at the part of the movie where it is at the staircase of the house(something like a house, don't know how people name it). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A woman's movie for sure--how erotic!
This movie is on my list of "chick" movies or those movies that would appeal to our female need for sexiness, erotic content, and, sometimes, a competent storyline. Other movies on my list would be "Two Moon Junction", "Against All Odds" and "Thief of Hearts". I don't know why David Duchovny seems to shy away from mentioning his participation in this movie and the Showtime cable series that came after. He was so palpably sexy in this movie, and in the "Jake's Story" episode of "Red Shoes" the series. Billy Wirth is also mighty fine to look at as well. How can a girl choose between these two fine specimens? Sigh...

4-0 out of 5 stars David Duchovny or Billy Wirth...what a choice!
A young woman(Bridget Bako) is torn between her fiancee, played by a pre-X Files Duchovny, and a shoe salesman she is having an affair with, played by gorgeous Billy Wirth...not that Duchovny isn't bad himself! She can't decide between the 2 men...so she committs suicide! After her death, Duchovny finds her diary, along with a pair of sexy red shoes she purchased from Wirth, and tries to put the pieces together. This is bascially the jist of the film. It is shown in flashbacks as Duchovny sorts painfully through her belongings. He reads her diary hoping it will provide some insight as to why she took her life. What he learns about the woman he loves is devastating! I have watched this film many times. I enjoy it very much. I like director Zalman King's films. (Another good one is Two Moon Junction) I think he is able to make sensual films from a womans point of view, which is why they come across as erotic, not smutty. The only thing I don't like is, the version originally aired on Showtime and the rental version have different endings. I prefer the cable version. You end up liking Wirth much better. I don't know why King found it necessary to have 2 endings, the difference drastically alters the tone of the film. If possible, try and get your hands on the cable version first. You can purchase both versions, so know which is which. I must admit that I don't care for the Showtime series, Red Shoe Diaries, for which this movie was the pilot. Bridget Bako is absolutely lovely in the scene were she manically dances about her apartment. She reminds me of a young Jane Fonda. Billy Wirth's smouldering character posesses the uncanny ability to guess his customers shoe sizes the moment they walk into the store. But his character is not as shallow as he appears. Wirth is SO incredible in this film! Then again, let's face it, most woman would be content to watch Wirth read the phone book aloud! This was the first time I ever saw Duchovny, and I immediatly liked him. He has a nice screen presence. He is subtly sexy. I am glad I got to know him in this film before I became familiar with the stone-faced Muldar on X-Files. He CAN do more than play the straight man. I really can't say too much more about Red Shoe Diaries without giving up too much of the story. All I can say is, if I had the dilemma of choosing between Wirth and Duchovny, I certainly wouldn't kill myself! I'd be on the phone boasting to all my girlfriends!

5-0 out of 5 stars DEAR MEN: This is porn for women!
A sexy guy who talks a woman into a pair of outrageous red shoes and into his bed for some seamy steamy forbidden sex....a nice guy lover who thinks everything is perfect until he comes home and finds her in the bathtub with her wrists slit.... THis is a tragic love story with complicated emotions and no true resolution. Every woman I know loves this movie- it speaks to us. The eroticism is classy and tasteful- even the obligatory bimbos are treated with class as are all of the women in Zalman King's work.

The Red SHoe Diaries worked as a series on Showtime because they discovered that like Fred Savage's mom- women tend to be the viewers of soft porn on cable late at night. We ogle mens bodies, enjoy the sizzle but want a story! Red Shoes the Movie, and the episodes deliver up a healthy serving of fantasy and escapism that is comepletely safe.

A recommendation- guys if you want to give your lady some steamy stuff to read to get ideas and fantasy scenarios from- the Harlequin Blaze line of romances read not too unlike the letters to Penthouse! Fantasy and building a scenario, setting a mood, prolonged foreplay- this is what Zalman King is all about in visual form. Use the books for times when you can't watch a movie ( ie kids are still up!)- try anything by Vicki Lewis Thompson- Notorious has a wild sex scene in a hot tub and in a Vegas hotel that any man would love to have read out loud.

5-0 out of 5 stars Romantic Tragedy
Duchovny is great in this Red Shoe debut movie. If you ever caught one the series on Showtime, but often wondered how did Red Shoe Dairies ever start, this explains it all. It keeps one guessing throughout the emotional rollercoaster of love. Too bad David didn't make more of these types of films. He is much better as one of the stars (such as in this title) rather than just the narrator, as the series goes. It's nice to see him sensually interactive on film, pure enjoyment, especially if you're one of his fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars The saddest, most beautiful film ever made.
... it's just an amazingly touching film, about a successful, romantic, loyal man (Duchovny), his neurotic girlfriend (Bako), and the "hottie" she meets by accident (Wirth). What happens next is up to you to watch it.... it's a beautiful and sad film.... ...please check out this film. You will not regret it. It has basically nothing to do with the Showtime cable softcore porn series that followed... this is a beautiful, intelligent, engaging film with a gorgeous score (thanks to George S. Clinton)... Duchovny rules in this film.... it always makes me cry... always. Intense, passionate, and yes, there is sex in the film (don't shy away from it because of that).... just watch, enjoy.... and prepare to have your life and perspective of love and lust forever changed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Watch it several times...
Probably my favorite full length surf film. If you update "The Endless Summer", modify the plot and give the characters dialog that says what Bruce Brown narrates, you have "In God's Hand". This movie has some great surfing footage - and a who's who in big wave surfing. And it attempts to show what its like to be a surfer. The "actors" are surfers playing the role of surfers - more or less themselves. The dialog and some scenes come off corny at times. This is an attempt to put what is usually experienced or thought into a film format - visual and audio. I saw this movie before I started surfing and although I heard what was said, I still didn't get it. After I was surfing, it was - oh yeah, there right! Like Dorian says to his girlfriend in the film - "... if you understood what I was saying, I wouldn't be saying it". Great film. Even better when watched several times.

5-0 out of 5 stars so hardcore
this movie is awesome.. and i like that it's REAL surfers in this movie and not just stupid little girls who can't surf and know nothing about it... like blue crush... it's another surfer movie everyone has to see! plus, shane shane shane... (we really need to see a movie totally on bruce irons though...

1-0 out of 5 stars The Worst Surf Flick Ever. Really.
I bought this once, and watched it as many times. Live and learn, life is suffering. The short review is: this thing sucks. If you want truely great surf entertainment, stick to Jack Johnson's amazing work and, of course, The Everlasting Series. Okay, now the long version. The film quality is impressive, but there's nothing worth watching. I don't blame the surfers; they're not actors, after all. The entire concept is at fault here. It's like a psuedo documentary with delusions of dramatic grandeur. From the moment the movies starts with a guy (who shall not be named because it's probably not entirely his fault) and a girl, both on a train. The lame dialogue and cheesy camera work sets the tone. It's like the director is screaming: "This is dramatic, this is so intense -- but you gotta be cool with it, because this chick obviously wants you big time, so you gotta be cool. But remember: drama, drama, drama!" Another memorable moment is the fist fight in Bali. Anone who's actually been there and seen more than Legian bars and shirt-shops will surely shake their heads in utter disgust. There are a few (very, very few) good moments, like when the guys are in Hawai'i getting ready to paddle out. Intense. That's about the only part of the film that came off as honest, and for that very reason it stood out against the hokey story line, stupid plot "developments" (the fist fight in Bali -- ridiculous!) and absurd acting attempts. These guys just aren't actors. And the director (the term is used loosely) couldn't put togther a decent porno with Coppola's film crew and a year in a finishing school for sex maniacs. I'd rather sit through Beach Blanket Bingo. Seriously. At least then you expect any surf references to be insipid, insulting and irritating. Maybe next time the people who brought this sad piece of crap to life ought to concentrate on what surfing actually is, and leave the cardboard idiocy to Hollywood.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Movie
This movie was definitely one of the best surf films I've ever seen. This movie captures some truely amazing surfing that will make you want to surf for the rest of your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars spirtual and philospical insight
this movie combines great surf with the realities of real life. even though a surfer can be from different cultures every surfer knows the surf and the thrill of the waves and especially the big ones. which is one of the more exciting thing in this movie is the big waves. the movie consists of three friends going on a surfers dream scoping the earth for big waves. the show the real aspects of this big wave threat.they show them going through the training and hurdles that get in their way. the only thing that i don't like about this movie is the tow surf but that's another subject. but it is also expressed in this movie. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Movie
Very stylish melodramatic movie. I wish they would put this movie on DVD already. Superb acting. There is a great love scene from the incredibly gorgeous Rae Dawn Chong. Other than Quest For Fire this is her best movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Powerful
This is a different and interesting film that involves the viewers emotions. Chong's performance is outstanding. Her talents are often underated.Watching this film that mistake is almost impossible to make. The film has weak points, but is certainly worth watching. At times touching,brutal,erotic--it can take you for a ride.

3-0 out of 5 stars Apocalypse in Rio
This action/mystery set in Brazil several years ago is a bit dated but still gripping. The writers seem to have been very troubled by the well-publicized abuses of the street children in Rio and looking for a story that would make the problem real in the minds of American film viewers. They came up with an obvious but believable plot line--an American journalist (Rae Dawn Chong) travels to Rio during Carneval determined to find out who really is behind the murder of these innocents. No one wants to tell her anything until she comes in contact with a shadowy local boss named Boca (Mouth, which is short for Mouth of Gold, because his teeth are all gold). As she continues to dig, she becomes increasingly immersed in the Carneval state of mind, with not entirely happy results. The story builds up to a stunning plot twist, followed by an apocalyptic shootout--at which point, I'm sorry to say, the writers seem to have run out of inspiration and have to introduce a character from some other movie (played by Martin Sheen) to bring the film to its conclusion without everyone in Rio getting killed. The ending really disappoints, but nevertheless this is an engaging and entertaining film, featuring Rae Dawn Chong at her best (how an actress of her ability wound up doing network TV is beyond me). She dominates every scene she is in, which is almost every one. She looks great too, and I should add that by the time the film is done we have seen just about all of her--if nudity offends you, you definitely don't want to rent this video. Again, this is a very intriguing and engrossing film, marred only by the writers' failure to come up with quite enough ideas to get to the end of it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Dire, Dire, Dire
Lots of irritating sex talk, a self absorbed bore for a "heroine", two friends who have clearly beamed down from the planet Zanussi! It has two golden "moments" in the whole thing. The street footie match, between the hero and the oddball friend, and the moment when the long suffering hero/boyfriend finally gets angry.

Aside from these pluses, it is lovingly shot in a kind of golden glow, which gives you the warm fuzzies (and captures Costas to perfection!). A pity, because this could have been good with a bit more inspiration.

Strictly for very uncritical Mandylor fans only.

The unrated version does show a bit more flesh, but is not necessary to appreciate the story. ...

Thank goodness Mummy came along for AV! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A dangerous game, a delicious cake, and a family feud
Okay, I'm going to be a little bias on critiquing this DVD. This is because I am the writer of the story of one of the three episodes on this DVD.

This DVD consists of the Red Shoe Diaries episodes: The Game, The Cake, and Like Father Like Son.

'The Game' is about a woman who broke herself free of a relationship that was based on a sexual 'truth or dare' style game. This episode is for the "no holds barred" type of lovers out there.

'The Cake' is the episode I wrote the story for. It's about a woman who can't decide on a birthday cake at a bakery for her husband. The baker gets an idea to decorate her as the birthday cake. The results? You'll have to see for yourself. :) This episode is for anyone curious to try new things.

'Like Father Like Son' is about a man infatuated with his father's lover. She, at first, thinks of him as just a boy but thinks otherwise later and has to decide between the two.

The DVD has some excellent additions to it:

Photo galleries from all 3 episodes

An option to hear commentary from producer/director Zalman King during the episodes

A Red Shoe Diaries trivia game

Behind the scenes footage (mostly in 'The Cake') that you can view at the appropriate moments of the episode

English and Spanish Translations

For the Red Shoe Diaries fans, this is a must have DVD. I hope you like it (especially my episode).

Oh, I do have a 1 1/2 second cameo on 'The Cake'. If you use the 'commentary' option, Zalman will point me out to you. :)

Enjoy! ... Read more
