5-0 out of 5 stars CGI at it's best
I didn't actually see the video, but I did see the televised episode. When I first started watching Reboot, I couldn't believe how cool it was. The characters moved and looked so real, that I thought that they looked like real people. I didn't even know that the show was available on video. I'd like to know if there's someone out there who knows where I can get them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, I love this series! Another good storyline.
When the evil Megabyte hires a sprite called Mouse to invade Bob's mind by means of an 'energy shake' , Enzo drinks the drink instead, and the enemy find themselves in Enzo's mind. Bob must find a way to save Enzo. What can I say, this is good stuff!

5-0 out of 5 stars All hail Mike the TV
It took the better part of a decade to make the four seasons of ReBoot, and it was a decade which saw breathtaking changes in computer graphics technology.

This early episode is charming for many reasons...the great characters, the witty writing, the innocent enthusiasm of Mike the TV. But if you were lucky enough to remember watching ReBoot when it first aired (as I do), it's fun to recall that this episode represented what was, at the time, the pinnacle of cgi. The show, like the technology, sure came a long way.

ReBoot was the first--and, by the way, the best--computer animated television series.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you like D&D style games, this is a perfect spoof.
This was one on my favorite episodes for two reasons. One, it made fun of the D&D style computer games on the market. Two, Mike the T.V. had a bigger role than in some of the other episodes. The two mixed together was hilarious.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't let this one be the first episode of Reboot you see...
Don't get me wrong, I love the TV show Reboot, but this episode was stupid and rediculous, it seemed like the producers were just try to take up time by making this episode... If you want to see a good episode, watch the Medusa bug, that one it much better.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great episode in a wonderful series
This was the first episode I ever caught of the series called "ReBoot" back in the mid-90's. The first thing that caught my eye was the fact that the entire series was computer generated (the first computer generated series ever, actually). Being a professional digital animator, I was of course intrigued by the idea of a weekly children's series done digitally. But I soon became engrossed in the plot of this clever series, which I discovered was not really created entirely for children (the intricate plots, in-jokes, sight-gags, and pop culture references are obviously aimed at more mature audiences). I became a fan for the entire U.S. run (two seasons, though a third aired in Canada where the series originated...and was eventually broadcast here on the Cartoon Network).

The series takes place in the world within the computer, with its lead characters defending their very lives against the "user" when games are downloaded into their midst. When a game arrives, the characters "Re-boot" themselves to take on characteristics of the game environment (thus the name of the series).

In this particular episode our heroes are subjected to a multi-level wizards and warriors-type game. The added catch on this outing is the inclusion of "Mike The T.V." a character known to irritate and cause havoc around our lead characters with his ongoing "Newscasts" of all actions going on around him. How they get out of the situation and complete the game is interesting and fun! ... Read more

I found this film engaging and uplifting. One of those films that makes you think about the essential things in life in a healthy and inspiring way.

4-0 out of 5 stars From A Bowie Fan Perspective......
If you are seeing this film for ANY other reason than David Bowie, you may want to run and not just walk away, NOW. However, Bowie's performance lights up this film, and considering all of the less than well-chosen works of the cinema under his belt, this film is sweet and very under-rated....in a sentimental kind-of way. However, this film has a definate message, one that has resounded in other Bowie works (music and film), as well as from Bowie himself. Everyone makes a difference - it's what you do in life that counts, not how long you live. Take if from me, this film isn't as bad as people would want you to beleive!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Secret we could All Learn from.
Mr. Rice's Secret is a wonderful opportuitity to explore the

So your search for anything Bowie has finally led you here. The story seems like a resurrected after school special with silly adventures and dialogue that just doesn't exist for kids. But then David (Mr. Rice) starts speaking... and things don't seem so bad. Uh, then again. A 400 year old man you would think wouldn't require kids to let's say, exhume a corpse! 4-0 out of 5 stars Cadillac Girls
This film is actually much better than the cheesy cover indicates. As a fan of Adam Beach (Native American actor)I decided to give it a try...mostly revolving around the central mother-daughter relationship which is tense and sad, the film slowly moves toward reconciliation and discovery for both. However, the film does not have the hollywood ending you would expect (thank God): It is real and sweet but with a bitterness that will make you think about the characters long afterwards. The cast does a great job, the location (once out of innercity California) is beautiful...I only wish the relationship with Will on the daughter's side was played out in full instead of relying so heavily on the mother-daughter traumas. Still, the scene where Page (Mia Kirshner)meets Will (Beach) in the Indian burial ground was perfect. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great guitar duel
The guitar duel at the end of the episode is worth the price of admission, and some of the jokes at the expense of the ABC network's bureau of standards and practices are great...
All in all, my second-favorite episode of the first two seasons of ReBoot...

5-0 out of 5 stars The sprites decide to put on a show for Enzo's birthday
Reboot was the first ever animated children's show made 100% with 3D computer animation. As if it were not enough to make it stand out, the scripts were inventive and the artwork superb. The voice actors had real talent and the animators were always adding subtle or blatant references to contemporary matters in the background. More than half of the episodes were wonderful examples of a blend of wit, adventure and social content. "Talent Night" was such an episode. The premise of putting on a talent show to celebrate Enzo's birthday gave the occasion for a series of hilarious parodies of everything from a poetry reading by William Shatner to imitations of the 70s New York group "The village people", with short takes on Elvis and others. It all ended with a rock concert containing a guitar duel between the arch-villain Megabyte and Bob, the one and only hero of the series. Hmmm...well, OK, maybe Ms Matrix stole the spotlight from Bob now and then. They really did their best to portray Ms Matrix as a good role model for girls, despite the fact that she was dressed in a rather tight jumpsuit most of the time. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars As all ReBoot shows go, this is one of the best.
A great Hack & Slash scene starts off this epsiode. Nowhere is the relationship of Hex & Bob, the guardian, more well defined, than in this episode. Drama, dispair, but as usual, a funny ending that all (as per ABC) can view.

1-0 out of 5 stars horrible

1-0 out of 5 stars A bad copy of 80's cult
This spin-off series is really just commercial nonsense. Everybody loved the original characters, why did they restructure the complete series?

1-0 out of 5 stars Why did they cancel the G1 cartoon series?
This new series is junk. Just a bad copy of a cult phenomenon. They would have done better to continoue season 4 of the orignal series...

5-0 out of 5 stars New Strategies
While none of these episodes impact the main plot in anyway, they are pretty entertaining. They have some good action and good stories.

Equal Measures (B): When Cheetor sets off in an Energon storm to set up field devices, he is transported directly to the Predicon's base while Terrasaur is transported to the Maximal's base.

Chain of Command (B+): When an unidentified probe lands on the planet, Optimus is sucked into it. Now, the Maximals have to get him out, but will they extract him in time before the Predicon's vape him?

Power Surge (A-): When Terrasaur gets blasted a huge amount Energon, he aquires greater power that even over-powers Megatron.

Overall, these episodes are all about great action and good plots. And if you like that, you can't deny it. So get primed and get it now. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Battle Begins
The classic Beast Wars saga is back! For those who grew up with it, here is your chance to relive your childhood. The story takes place about a generation after the great war from Transformers The Movie. The new Predicons break the treaty with the Maximals and steal a golden disc that will lead them to Energon, a main power source. The Maximals follow on the Axalon and are drawn into a strange planet along with the Predicons.

Beast Wars Part 1 (B): After the Predicons and Maximals get their new beast forms to protect themselves from Energon, Cheetor discovers Waspinator and the two sides are drawn into battle.

Beast Wars Part 2 (B-): Dinobot decides to join the Maximals. When Megatron's missile hits a mountain, it exposes a huge amount of Energon. Now, a race to the top of the mountain is on for the Energon.

The Web (B+): Cheetor gets cocky when he is scrapped by Scorponoc's missile and lets him get away with the Energon. When Cheetor tries to go out and get it back, he is ambushed by Terancalious and gets caught in his energy draining web.

Overall, the episodes aren't the best, but they do provide a solid intro to one heck of a great series. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Reboot Taken off UK TV
Just out of interest. Reboot was taken off air in the UK because it was considered too dark for Children!! It used to come on around 4pm.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everybody's gone surfin', surfin' USB
Third of four season three DVD's, The Web maintains the overall quality that was the hallmark of the previous episodes.

The Web is darker in tone than the other DVD's in season three, due to AndrAIa's condition and the foreboding abyss that is the Web, according to the ReBoot universe. Still, some humor is to be found. Look for the cook binome peeling potatoes for the entire DVD, and keep a sharp eye for the cargo (Yo ho ho and a barrel of ROM, etc)

If there is a gripe to be had here, it's that Bob's voice has changed. I suppose we could rationalize this by his degradation in the web, but I still preferred the original voice acting from the first two seasons. He was much more expressive, and the voice just seemed to fit better. No matter, it's a trivial point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good anime
i would give 5 star.. good anime, no regret on the purchase.

4-0 out of 5 stars SO much better!
It is a real shame that seasons 1 and 2 (the first half) were soooo lousy. But these season 3 (and 2nd half of season 2) episodes were excellent. I've heard that they intentionally "dummied-down" the seasons 1 and 2 so that they could air them in America without offending anybody or ticking off the censors. This wouldn't surprise me condisdering how American TV has managed to ruin some of the best shows--DBZ and Beast Wars (Beast Machines--the American version--was awefull!)

Anyway, when REboot didn't sell in America the Canadian animators were freed the bonds put on them and really cut loose! The humour episodes were the best, they mocked everything from james bond (best reboot ep. EVER) to the Prisoner, to Sailor Moon, to Xena and Hercules. Definitly check this series out!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr Solomon needs to get his facts straight...
Okay, I've been checking out the reviews just out of curiousity. I've been a fan of this series since episode 1 aired way back in 1994, and have faithfully followed the evolution of the seires since its debut. First off, Mr. Solomon keeps going on and on about how uneven the "motion-capture animation" is. Well guess what - unlike the majority of other computer animated shows, Mainframe Entertainment does NOT use motion capture for their characters! All of their animators are trained in TRADITIONAL animation techniques, and apply that skill to the 3D animation of this show. The characters are animated using KEYFRAMES, and by MANUALLY positioning the articulation, movement, etc. It is a long and painstaking process, but the end result is you get much smoother animation that does not suffer from the "jerkiness" that is often the problem with motion-capture animation. There are pros and cons to both techniques. Now, that said, compare the animation of Season 3 of Reboot with that of Seasons 1 and 2.
You'll notice a quantum leap forward in quality! This was the season where the series really came into its own, presenting far more adult storylines that were most definately NOT geared towards the kiddies. In short, this is an EXCELLENT series and far superior to anything else that was on television, be it animated or otherwise, in 1997. Mr. Solomon should try to take the series for what it IS, instead of talking about what he thinks it SHOULD be. And what it is is one of the best darn animated series' to appear on regular television in a loooonnng time. Featuring genuinely engaging characters (especially the way Enzo/Matrix evolves over the course of this season! EXTREMELY complex for a character in a non-anime animated series!), absolutely gripping (and at time GENUINELY moving) stories that will keep you coming back for more until there's none left, and more eye candy than you'll know what to do with.
The bottom line: GET THIS SERIES! You won't be disappointed. I also highly recommend "Roughnecks: The Starship Troopers Chronicles" for much the same reasons. Now, THAT series uses motion-capture. But they do it quite well. And for a NON-MOTION-CAPTURE computer animated series, Reboot does an excellent job. Just my two cents. ... Read more

If you did a little research you would find out the the 4 Vols sold on amazon are vol 1-4 of seasonIII. It is one complete season. not random episodes from different seasons. I too would gladly like to see all the seasons. But come on WHAT DID YOU EXPECT FOR about 20 bucks A WHOLE SEASON GET REAL USE YOUR BRAIN THINK. Most series that sell as whole season sell for well over 50 bucks!
Your review is incorrect and made me do research before i decided to buy. Please find all the facts before posting incorrect reviews!

Now onto the review!
Reboot is great! These 4 vols of season III are wonderful we could only hope that the first 2 seasons come out sometime in the future! Season IV is slated for later this year!

2-0 out of 5 stars READ THIS BEFORE YOU PURCHASE!
As a fan of Reboot I was thrilled that I might see the entire collection. Although DVD's are sold as Volumes they only contain a few episodes. Not near enough to enjoy the true richness of the series. When I purchased ALL 4 volumes some even purported to be "seasons" I expected to get just that. Not 4 selected epsiodes from each year. I would have GLADLY paid more to actually get what I wanted...this was only a teaser DVD...

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy It
What can I say? I used to watch this a few years ago in the UK. However, it was taken off air because it was considered too dark for children's television. All the Episodes are Superb. The Animation is Great. The only fault with this DVD is the Extras. Considering the fact that there are onl 4 Episodes per Disc, why couldn't we get more Extras. I would have loved to see the faces behind the Characters, how Storylines are developed etc. Overall, this DVD (along with Volumes 3 & 4) is Superb.

5-0 out of 5 stars Computer Anime Sci-Fi Wild West Style
Well, perhaps not EXACTLY, but that's what comes to mind when I think of the third season of Reboot. The first of Reboot was Saturday morning cartoon fare. Good, but but not incredible. The second season was DEEP, and contains my favorite episode of the entire series, ANDRAIA. But the third season is probably the most popular, and the four episodes on this DVD are probably the reason why.

The first episode, Icons, is one of my all-time favorite episodes of anything ever. In a plot inspired by the Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven, a now grown-up Andraia and Enzo Matrix must help some unlikely heros save a system which is in such bad condition that another lost game will undoubtedly cause it to crash. This epsisode features a cool atmosphere, great dialog, and a game inspired by Conan the Barbarian (but with the heroes of the system rebooting as scotish warriors, including Matrix rebooting as William Wallace). Anime fans will undoubtably notice the background motion effect used when Matrix fights is fighting a gargoyle (a total anime-style flying through the air moment).

The second episode is a Star Trek tribute that any Trekkie will love to death. Most of the episode is about Matrix and Andraia taking sides, working out their disagreements, and (oh yeah) finding and destroying a virus. Pretty great.

The third episode is a trip. In a LONG reference to the old show The Prisoner (which I unforetunately have not seen), Matrix and Andraia find themselves back in Mainframe (or is it Mainframe?), trying to find out who the Mysterious #1 is, and what the secret is that he is holding. This epsisode ends in Matrix realizing that he needs to renew his efforts to get back home to Mainframe, and never allow himself to give up.

The fourth episode is more of what made the first episode in the third season so great. Old-school anime/sci-fi wild west action. Our heroes land in a system resembling Tatooine, which contains a space-port. But faster than you can say Star Wars, the plot rips wide open, with Super Viruses, Evil Guardians, and the Entire Net involved in a danger that only Matrix can stop. If that wasn't enough for you, you get to see Matrix's gun go into death blossom mode, a crazy shootout, and one-on-one quickdraw duel featuring the music and camera-work of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

This DVD has everything you could want. Grat plot, great characters, great sound, great animation, great action, and enough subtle references to make any movie/tv/sci-fi/fantasy fan smile. A must buy for the animation fan.

4-0 out of 5 stars SEASON 3

5-0 out of 5 stars A must own for Reboot and Mainframe CGI fans!
WOW! This is a stellar disc! You've never seen Reboot until you see it with the crystal clarity of DVD. The colors, the details never looked so amazing! Even if you've seen it on TV, Reboot is definately one DVD to own. Lots of neat little extras like animation tests and concept drawings make this disc a must buy. I only wish it had closed captioning. Check out the trailer section for a preview of War Planets/Shadow Raiders coming soon to DVD too! The only bad news about this series is that another company hold the rights to seasons 1 & 2, so we may never see the entire Reboot series on DVD. I hope other Mainframe series like Weird-Oh's, Beast Wars and Beast Machines soon follow! My fingers are crossed!

5-0 out of 5 stars The First and the Best
CGI series ever on television. Compelling characters, great stories and breathtaking animation make ReBoot one of the finest shows ever to grace tv. These DVDs are must-own items for any fan of animation, certainly for any fan of ReBoot. I only wish seasons 1, 2 and 4 would also come out on DVD. And should the stars align correctly, maybe even a fifth season! Let's hope. We all know the adventure continues...

3-0 out of 5 stars I Want Season One
I am a HUGE Reboot fan. It was a landbreaking series in digital animation. The characters were all well developed and the stories were well written. I was sad to see it get canceled and only recently learned that it had gone on to cable t.v. So I jumped at the chance to buy the entire series. I was so excited! I am sooooo disappointed that Volume One is NOT Season One. It is difficult for me to share it with others, as they have no background. Some of it is hard for me to understand too, since Bob was alive and kicking when I last saw the show.

For all the fans of this awesome series -- I ask the producers to please release Seasons 1 & 2, so our collections will be complete. This is animation history.

5-0 out of 5 stars ReBoot for life!
The editor of this review is clearly an angry old man with no appreciation for a fun, exciting cartoon. These take place at the beginning of season three, after the web has invaded mainframe. The James Bond-style of the Firewall opening is great, as is the episode itself. "Game Over" is the definately one of the best pre-net episodes in the series. The only thing that upsets me is that there is no "volume 0" with the episodes for season one ("Opening Sequence", "Racing the Clock", "Medusa Bug", "The TIFF", and "Talent Night") or season two ("Infected", "Painted Windows", "AndrAI", "Nullzilla", "Gigabyte", "Trust No One", and "Web World Wars"). However, this DVD gets my thumbs up! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Editor should do more reviews....
The editorial review at the top is just plain wrong. He's obviously not a fan by the complete lack of knowledge of basic facts. Its like reading the last chapter of a book, and then trashing it cause he didn't understand what was going on. Even watching the previous 4 episodes would have given him more of an understanding of the series as a whole. To anyone that has seen the series already on TV this is a way to be able to go back to watch them in stunning visual quality whenever one wants. This is a very well done finish to one of the major story arc's, but unlike the other seasons it doesn't leave a mouth watering cliffhanger like the end of season 4 does... so simply sit back and enjoy having things almost wrapped up in this DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Third is not last...
Season 3 is best by far with how much the characters grow. I would very much like to see Seasons 1 and 2 get on DVD especially Season 2 which sets up Season 3 with the web creature entering Mainframe and their battle to save Mainframe from the evils of the web and treachery of the guardians. However, did everyone forget about Daemon? Reboot Season 4 aired briefly, and I mean briefly, on Toonami a couple of years ago. I missed the event but I assume it involved the battle to take back the super computer and save the guardians from Daemon. So Season 3 is not the series end. I would love to see Season 4 so start pressuring the producers to put it on DVD ASAP!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazon's review is misleading and wrong
This is a great series. But these are the last episodes of the third season and so if you have not seen the episodes before it, it might not make much sense. As for the animation, it is a major breakthrough for the time in which it was made. I know there is much better animation now, but this was made in 1997 with the best software around. Mainframe has always been ahead of other production companies and I can't wait to see what they come out with next. And Amazon, find someone who knows what they are talking about to do a review for this dvd. You might sell more of them. I definitely recommend buying this dvd, but if you are already a fan of this series, you know that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Oh please just put out a box set of the whole thing!
I would gladly pay at least $50.00 a year for each year of this series, and probably more. C'mon, how about just releasing the entire series season by season as any classic TV show deserves.

5-0 out of 5 stars ReBoot Rules!
ReBoot is unsurpassed. Later CGI series fell far short of this original and groundbreaking series. Bill Gates inaugerated ReBoot into the Smithsonian as the first CGI series, but it was much more than that. Great writing and wonderful charcters meant you cared about Enzo, Dot, Bob and the fate of Mainframe. ReBoot combined the heroic and humorous in an unusual and unique way. It remains a marvelous achievement and repays repeated viewing. When Disney bought ABC, ReBoot was one of the casualties, so the third season never aired in the US. That gave its Canadian creators more leeway to push the envelope, since the series didn't have to comply with network standards and practices boundaries. This resulted in an edgier, widely-praised third season, which finally aired on Cartoon Network. Now the entire third season is available on four DVDs. Own this piece of history and be part of the magnificent achievement that is ReBoot. Ask a million fans: ReBoot Reigns! ... Read more
