3-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT the movie you saw on TNT!
This is a common misunderstanding. The version of "The Lost World" everyone saw on TNT is the pilot for the Television series that airs on WGN. This particular movie stars Patrick Bergin as Professor Challenger and the plateau setting is moved to Mongolia. The special effects are so-so and the acting is hoaky. A traditional B-Movie with a surprising amount of violence considering the classic story it's based on. Sort of a jungle set "Carnosaur".

4-0 out of 5 stars Sir Authur Conan Doyle's Lost World
i saw this for the first time on TNT. It was not a bad movie at all. I had never seen it before and thought it was a copy of the Speilberg epic at first, but found that it was different. the film was a good film but it seemed to be like Zena a little bit. I would still recommend this to other movie buffs. Why is this not out on DVD yet? I would like to see this while I am waiting on Speilberg's version to ever come out.......

4-0 out of 5 stars The Lost World the best since the original
This is the best movie based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's book The Lost World. I've seen all the other ones and this is got to be the best one right up there with the original 1925 version. The SFX are the best, just like the ones in Jurassic Park. And the acting is good too. If your a movie buff and want to spend money then this is the movie for you!

5-0 out of 5 stars MY FAVORITE ADVENTURE MOVIE IN THE WHOLE "LOST" WORLD.......
This movie is outstanding, in its attempts to entertain viewers, with masterful special effects and stunning back drops and outstandingly wierd monsters (ape men, giant bees) This is a movie for the whole entire family. It stars Patrick Bergin as Challenger the main character and leader of a crew that goes in search of a lost world, to determine the exsitence of dinousaurs. When they set foot on a forbidden plateu, they enter a world where time has stopped, and nature runs wild. This entertaining movie is better than all of the other "LOST WORLD" movies, and has nothing to do with Spielberg's "LOST WORLD: JP 2" Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel.

2-0 out of 5 stars A colorful yet disappointing attempt to capture Doyle's idea
The color and CGI's are excellent in this film. The location shots are great, and the attempt to capture the late 1880's successful. However, the female character is obnoxious and certainly un- becoming in attitude, language and appearance. While this might be the 90's, and women should be able to handle strong lead characters, this woman, who was the financial backer of the expedition, was disgusting. There have been several major cinematic attempts at this story, but this version leaves a lot to be desired. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars The Blob Meets Deep Sea Drilling
While searching for some new horror and monster movies I came across an interesting little thriller called Proteus. Reading the back I became suspicious that the movie was based on an old book I had read and the opening credits confirmed it. Proteus is based on the book SLIMER by Harry Adam Knight.

A band of drug smugglers are fleeing the authorities when their boat sinks. Eventually their life raft drifts to an offshore drilling rig. One of them manages to climb aboard and send down the elevator. The find the rig deserted. As they look for a way off the rig or a working radio, they seem to find others who lock themselves in a lab.

The true purpose of the rig is not drilling. It had been converted to an isolated research station. The goal of the research was to create a protean substance that would aid in regeneration. They succeeded all too well. The substance they created was able to absorb the researchers and take their forms. As the band continues to try and leave before being killed, the owner arrives via helicopter. This gives them the chance to escape and cause the rig to destruct. In the closing moments there is doubt as to weather the creature made it aboard the helicopter.

Although this film was enjoyable, it lacked a bit of the suspense and urgency of the novel. But it is still a better than average member of the sub-genre. So if you are looking for a good film for munching popcorn to you might want to look for this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Hello Lenord."
Proteus is the type of movie that only a select few can appreciate. Proteus is based on the book "Slimer" by Harry Adam Knight, and I highly recommend the book. Obviously this low budget film wouldn't be as elaborate as the book, but this is still great on its own. This is basically like "The Thing" meets Leviathan. I didn't really think the acting was too bad in this at all, but i'm glad when a certain member of the crew gets taken out. The guy who plays Alex was great I thought, and his acting was kind of what the actors in sci/fi, action films of the 80's did, only a bit touched up. If you're a fan of Michael Beihn, Rutger Hauer, Stallone, and such, you'll appreciate his character. Of course we wouldn't be without a few of those quotable parts as well, making this an entertaing watch. A by-the-books 80's-esque styled Oceanic gross out sci/fi flick. "You want to live forever? YOU WANNA F***ING LIVE FOREVER!!!"

3-0 out of 5 stars Cheapo flick.
A group of drug smugglers are stranded on a deserted oil-rig where they come across the results of unpleasant genetic experiments which have gone out of control.

Though hardly a classic (the monster is too comic to be frightening, the acting and script are pretty feeble and Doug Bradley is wasted in a minor and undemanding role), it provides a decent evening's entertainment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sci-fi horror story !!!
Bob Keen- the wizard of special effects, now famous for his HELLRAISER (the series: parts 1,2,3 & 4)special effect masterpieces and KILLER TONGUE is the mastermind behind this great movie about dope smmuglers who get stranded on an oil rig (after having a freak boat accident)and discover why that oil rig is abandoned and why they are doomed. As to the plot ,it is as excellent as the special effects. If you love gore,shark-like mutant monsters, good scares and violent deaths this movie is for you.If you don't like horror films,or you do but you're overly critical then go watch some other pseudohorror stuff.

1-0 out of 5 stars First Carnosaur, now this. H.A.Knight must be annoyed.
This is the adaptation of a Harry Adam Knight novel called 'Slimer'. The book is a superbly tense and gripping tale. That's why I found the film no more than yet another disgustingly wasted licence.

The plot involves a group of shipwrecked people who come across a seemingly deserted oil-rig. They soon meet up with a scientist and find the rig was once used as a genetic research base and that their most unpleasant creation is stll around.

Only very loosely tied to the plot of the book. The characters are boring and cliched and the monster looks like a cut-price Jaws on legs. Even the appearance of Doug Bradley (Pinhead in Hellraiser) can't help save this mess. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great KIDS movie!!!
This movie was one that my kids LOVED and being a parent as well as a Meat Loaf fan enjoyed. No one claims this movie is one for the Oscars and couldn't compete with those caliber movies. Granted. However, it is one to sit down with a bowl of popcorn, your pre-teen kids and enjoy. Yes, it may be a little cheesy but that's not the point. The movie revolves around 2 guys who are climbing in the Himalayas when they encounter Meat Loaf's character and his sidekick tracking one of the mysterious "Yeti's". They are tracking the Yeti for a rich man who wants it for his spoiled brat of a son. The Yeti winds up hiding out in the backpack of one of the hikers who unknowingly brings it back to New York with him. The daughter of one of the hikers discovers it when she is searching her dad's backpack for what he brought back for her. They eventually find out that if he isn't kept cold he will die from the heat (his body's not used to it). The story tells of Meat Loaf's character following them to New York to track the Yeti and the hikers down and get the Yeti to the rich man.

1-0 out of 5 stars A real piece of Junk
This is quite a low star film. The plot is dumb, the acting is terrible, the characters are preachy and the Yeti looks like a Furby with horns. If you buy this movie you will most likely regret it. Just take my advice, this movie stinks. ... Read more
