2-0 out of 5 stars Alligator 2: The Mutation
This flick is not so much a sequel to Alligator as a shoddy remake. This sophomoric low-budget effort plays like a bad TV movie about a swamp-dwelling alligator mutated to monstrous size by toxic waste, munching on the screaming residents of a lakefront community. The naughty polluter who caused this mutation is the property developer himself (Steve Railsback). Wacky, rebel (well he's supposed to be) cop, David Hodges (Joseph Bologna) is investigating the mutilation/murders. You know he's wacky and a rebel because every time he does something wacky or rebellious, these two other cops say, "Hodges" and nod their heads while some corny music plays. In an attempt to remedy the situation, a big-game hunter from the bayou (Richard Lynch) is called in to bag the beast. And, you have to applaud his patience, he waits a respectable 30 seconds before making a gumbo reference. When his efforts fail, it's left to Hodges, assisted by a scientist (Dee Wallace Stone) to pick up the pieces and take charge of the situation when the big reptile decides to take in the grand opening of the local amusement park.

From a nonsensical script to cheesy special effects that make the beast look like a pool toy, this film shows none of the cynical charm and sly wit that made Alligator partially enjoyable. It does have some schlock charm that has saved several of its brethren, but falls short with its horrible characters including the cookie-cutter villain played by Steve Railsback, who is so obvious that he might as well have a "BAD GUY" sign around his neck. Yet another addition to the "mutated animal attacks" sub-genre, which fans might enjoy.

Be sure to check out Alligator.

4-0 out of 5 stars Alligator 2: The Mutation (1990)
Plot: An alligator living in the sewers is mutated into a humongous killing machine by chemicals that an evil corporation has dumped in there. The reptile goes into a lake, which is located right next to a small town. It begins eating people, and a cop named David Hodges (played by Joseph Bologna), another cop named Rich Harmon (Woody Brown), a gator hunter named Hawkins (Richard Lynch) and Hodges' scientist wife Christine (Dee Wallace Stone) work together to try and stop it. There is a subplot about the evil corporation that dumped the chemicals trying to get rich and the leader of them, Vincent Brown (Steve Railsback) trying to take over the town.
This film is okay. The original is much better. Also, this film has nothing to do with the original! It should have a different title. The acting, dialogue, directing and music are okay, but the special effects are terrible. The alligator looks so fake. I have a bunch of toys that look about 10 times more realistic than that piece of rubber used in the film. But, all in all, it's okay.

5-0 out of 5 stars The second ecounter.
This is is the only sequel to the original alligator. Another bady alligator has end up in the sewer. It is down there for years where it grows to be abnormal large and strong. Appears this greed person has been dumping radiactive chemicals in the swamp.

Just like in the first one alligator goes on a kill spring. Once again it must be stop. Unlike with tremors 2 and 3 none of characters from the First alligator are in it. I have seen the made for television version of this a few times on scifi.

A new sherrif and his with must stop the buffed up mutated Alligator before he kills ever body in the city. What they have to do kill this one makes taking down Romon from the first look easy.

The alligator takes for ever to kill. The try hit it with two bombs one goes of but the damage is not enough to kill. Then they set off a second bomb which fails because the alligator crush the denotation device. Near the end the inject some short ot chemical in him that fails.

They have to bring in guns I do not mean machine guns. They have to use explosive sells which are expensive probly cost the city a lot of meny to get because there so destuctive. Armed with bazkoos the go in and blast the Alligator 2 pieces.

A good movie with a scare theme music lot of suspense. If you liked the first Alligator then you Will love the Second. If you like these I also recomend Crocodile, Crodile 2 Death Roll and Blood Surf.

4-0 out of 5 stars Huston, we have a problem, in the sewers!
This B grade monster movie was very cool!

Altough, they may call this a sequel, but I do know enough about the first (I've read online reviews about it) to know that THIS creepy monstrousity is no sequel, more like a remake. JAWS 2 follows up to it's original, much better than this, it still had Roy Scheider (Cheif Steve Brody), from the first, in it! Whereas, Robert Forster (Police detective David Madison) is nowhere to be found here. It another cop guy (Officer David Hodges) played by Joseph Bologna. This is still a good beast flick though and I highly recommend it! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in to the sewers.........

PLOT.
As the film begins, there's this tough businessman type jerk named Vincent "Vinnie" Brown (played to perfection by the deliciously evil Steve Railsback, the guy who would play Ed Gein one day), who's men are dumping toxic waste in the city sewers. The chemicals mutate a baby alligator (who happens to be living there), into a horrifying monster. Brown's men are later attacked by the gator in a large, local lake and the police find a severed leg in the water the next morning and a doctor examines it. Hodges goes to the doc's office to investigate, with a series of photographs of other severed body parts that were found. Judging by how the skin is "cut clean", the doc claims that it this was caused by an animal bite, BIG animal, that is. Hodges and his scientific wife discuss that many large animals could have done this, like crocodiles and alligators. Remembering the modern myth about alligators living in the sewers, Hodges ponders on the fact that there might be a giant alligator in the sewers. When he and a rookie cop encounter the monster gator, he and a band of gator killers must do everything in their power to take down their reptilian adversary.

A lack of violence and minimum swearing gives ALLIGATOR 2: THE MUTATION a PG-13 rating. If your family needs a good scare without being splashed with too much blood or bad language, sink your teeth into this farce!

5-0 out of 5 stars good sequel
this bllody sequel to the critical entertaining and suspensful alligator this time after two divers are aten and one of their bloody legs are found in the lake soon a cop gets in on the mystery and as the bodys come the more he tries o kill the gater. the alligaters enourms cause a bad guy named vincet brown put chemicals in the sewrs go figure though cheesy at times the alligator looks ok sometimes hes tiny some times hes enoughrms. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars GRIFFITH'S BEST SINCE KARATE KID III
Action superstar Thomas Ian Griffith takes on evil Italians and corrupt cops in this edge-of-your seat thriller. In perhaps his best role of all time, Griffith crafts a fascinating character unlike any ever seen before: a cop frustrated with his work and alienated from his wife. When Griffith uses excessive force to get a confession, a web of intruige and sinister alliances is slowly revealed to him. The film also features a supporting cast of seasoned veterans such as James Earl Jones and Lance Henriksen who both deliver solid performances. With plot twists you will never see coming, touching moments which will leave you in tears and the one of best guitar-solo and saxophone soundtracks ever written - not to mention explosive, glass-breaking karate action, "Excessive Force" is a 90 minute visual feast of pure adrenaline! A must-see film for any fan of good cinema.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shoulda Been A Star
Good action movie. I actually saw this in the theater(yes, it did have a theatrical release!) back in the day. This was about the time when cheap action and horror films were starting to disappear from theaters. Excessive Force would be straight to video if released today. Pity, coz it's pretty fun. Thomas Ian Griffth never became the next Seagal or VanDamme-something the producers were obviously trying to do with him-but he really does the action tough guy thing wonderfully. He even had a hand in the script. He's got the look and the moves, he's even a decent actor. He went on to do some direct to video action pics, and played the lead vampire in John Carpenter's Vampires. You may also remember him as one of the villians from Karate Kid III(the guy who teaches Daniel how to break noses). Other than that, the guy is virtually unknown. The plot doesn't offer anything groundbreaking in terms of cops/robbers action, but it's a cliched film done well. It's got a better than average supporting cast of James Earl Jones, Lance Henriksen, Tony Todd(the Candyman himself!), and Burt Young(Paulie from the Rocky movies). These guys must have also seen potential of the script to want to appear in it. Good supporting actors, a good script, and a good performance from the lead raise this otherwise by-the-numbers action movie up a few notches to something quite entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well it's about time
This is one of those good action flicks in a long list that have taken way too long to make the DVD transfer. This is quite possibly an action fan's best introduction to Thomas Ian Griffith. Once you become acquainted with this film, you will soon realize just how underutilized this man is in the Hollywood Action scene. He combines impressive moves with decent acting chops and just comes across as a pretty cool cat. In addition, this was a fresh action film. It didn't rely on lead spraying alone. Character developement and a few twists combined with awesome casting--James Earl Jones, among other familiar and welcome faces--was obviously important in the overall spectrum of this movie. It wasn't just thrown together. We get a cop who winds up caught in the crossfire of the shadey politics of his own police precinct, finding himself alone in the struggle with no one to trust after his partner is brutily murdered. This film poses the question, "how well do you know your friends?" This is one you can share with fellow action fans that may not have had the pleasure of viewing. Griffith's movies are few and far apart but they're all worth watching. Support this man! I'm looking forward to seeing his work on the sequel to Timecop.

2-0 out of 5 stars An average film, but nothing special
Thomas Griffin acts as a kind of Van Damme in this film, it's like a low-budget version of Hard target except not nearly as good ( because no Van-Damme or John Woo ). I am a fan of martial arts pictures and like most american karate films this one is poorly choreographed. Ok Griffin has cool moves ... . The only reason that I wanted to watch this was of Lance Henrikson as he is such a great villian ( see Hard target ). Overall an average film with about 5 kickiboxing scenes along the way.

4-0 out of 5 stars I wanna see the tough guy!
After his partner is tortured and killed, Terry decides enough is enough. For a rather [inexpensive] movie "Excessive Force" is awesome: Great cast, Great fight scenes, and some Great lines. Thomas Ian Griffith never took off as the action hero of the 90's, but with other memorable roles in Karate Kid 3 & Vampires, he proves he's not just another Perfect Weapon, or Stone Cold. If you like the kind of action flick that is usually on [a pay channel] around 3:00 AM, then check out "Excessive Force", you'll be glad you did. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Magnificent
Thrilling, delightful B-movie which defies the limitations of its budget to create an unforgettable viewing experience.

3-0 out of 5 stars Primarily for Fans of the Leads
This sci-fi thriller follows one of the classic mystery-thriller storylines: a group of strangers is brought together in a remote location and then begin to die one by one. In this case, the "strangers" are military prisoners who have accepted a highly dangerous mission in lieu of execution, the "remote location" is an enemy fueling station, and the deaths are grisly murders which seem to have been committed by something as much beast as human. Who is doing the killing? And why? And why aren't there any enemy soldiers at this supposedly important base?

Terry Farrell plays the major in command of the unit, with Parker Stevenson as her #2 -- and the first person to start to figure out what's wrong. Corey Feldman and Rick Springfield are also featured. Each of them does a nice job with their part -- not that they've been given a lot to work with.

I'm a sci-fi fan, but I'm not into thrillers or space-military movies. I wouldn't give this movie more than one or two stars if I wasn't also a Parker Stevenson fan -- and reviews I've seen here and elsewhere lead me to suspect that unless you're a fan of Farrell, Stevenson, Feldman or Sprigfield you probably won't want to invest much time or money on this film.

4-0 out of 5 stars A terrific low-budget gem
Interesting how 4 reviews are split right down the middle. The thing to understand about movies like these is that they can't afford the studio special effects and production values. Good B-movies are made by their story and script and this one crackles. I saw it on the same weekend that "Species 2" came out and I felt this one -- done on a shoestring budget -- was much better. A fun, fast moving space mystery.

1-0 out of 5 stars Legion: A Lesion on the movie industry!
Terry Farrell, Rick Springfield, Parker Stevenson, Corey Feldman are the "headline" actors in this flat and slow moving Sci-Fi Channel exclusive. None of them are directed to their potential in this excuse of an "Aliens" wannabe. Poor storyline also contributes. Only buy this if you are a deranged fan of one of the actors and you want to throw away a hundred bucks.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Sci-fi movie that everyone will love
Tonight as I was going through the t.v. I noticed that the movie Legion was coming on and since I had never seen the movie before I thought I would watch it, and I was very happy that I did, it turned out to be one of the best movies I have seen in a long time, this is a great movie and it really keeps you guessing about who is the killer, infact I guesses almost everyone to be the killer, until they got killed (lol) except for the killer, I mean it was the last person I had ever excpected, when i found out that the movie was only going to air one more time this month and that was two hours after I watched it, I had to rewatch and recorde the movie. Plus the movie had Corey Feldman, who I had not seen in a movie in a long time, and he did a great job, he played a computer nerd and he was scared of everything and his Charachter seemed so real, I belive that he did one of the best jobs acting in this movie of most any actors!! I would tell everyone to watch this movie just once and i am sure that they will have to watch it again and again! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Olivier Gruner gets...to Mars
Caution Templar (Olivier Gruner) recieves a desperate message from his brother Ino and hurries to Mars. But, when he gets there he finds his brother is dead, and a mystery unfolds that could rock the sinister company that rules the planet to its core. Caution fights his way to the truth in a battle that threatens to turn the Red Planet red with blood.

The first time I viewed this movie, on VHS, I didn't like it at all, I thought it was very poorly done and I gave it a 2/5 high-score. Recently though, I picked it up on DVD and noticed behind Olivier Gruner's bad dubbing, making him sound like a dumb body-builder, there is a great action movie. The plot maybe nothing special but this movie has more fighting
than any movie Olivier has been in. From hand-to-hand fights to gun fights, this movie has it all. Olivier really shows that he has the skill to be a real action-star in this movie.

One downfall of the movie is its special effects, mainly at the beginning. When Caution arrives on Mars the ship looks like something out of a computer game from 1995. Where Velocity Trap had great special effects and decent fights, Mars has great fights and okay special effects.

Overall, this movie is worth seeing, the only real down turns in my oppinion are the bad dubbing and special effects, along with some pointless sex-scenes. The DVD transfer is pretty good as well, the DVD does come with a Trailer and Cast Bios, which is more than some other DVDs we have seen.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dumb as they come.
You know a movie is trash when the main actor's voice is dubbed by someone else. The best actor in this film is David Hyde White as our uber-bad guy. Everyone else makes me think that even I could do a better job. The characters are one dimensional, unlikeable, and are really just there to provide an excuse for Olivier Gruner to kick some [butt]. What a waste!
I've seen better from Gruner too. Try 'Nemesis' or 'Automatic'. At least he gets to use his own voice!

2-0 out of 5 stars Slow moving Sci-fi/Martial arts action
Its not the worst movie in the world.Oliver Gruner acting is one of his best to date as he dosen't say much.....thankfully.Its a good buy for Martial arts fans but Sci-fi fans are left expecting more.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mars
This is the most wasted time movies in my life of 30+ yrs. Buy this video now and regret forever!

4-0 out of 5 stars South of the Border Terrorists
Typical spy action film - lots of gratuitous violence. Steve Railsback does his usual good job - here he is a washed up CIA agent who has been relegated to the boondocks and is hitting the bottle. When a US senator is almost assassinated on his watch he pulls himself together and gets the bad guys in the end. Good supporting cast. Railsback's portrayal of a guy on the skids was powerful stuff - his drunk scene is worth the price of the film. The ... ain't bad either. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A really intriguing flick with alot turns.
I found the movie to have Comedy, Action, and enough turns to still keep me happy until the very end of the movie. If you like CIA conspiracies, then this movie is a must buy.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Crummy ... a Wonderful Series
"Crash and Byrnes" is, at best, the worst movie ever made when compared to the series it tries to mimic, "Waize and Means." Instead of Bobby Waize and Russel Means we are presented with two awful characters no one cares about. The plot for CAB borrows heavily from the first Waize and Means movie: "Congressman Columbia: A Waize & Means Adventure," as well as the fourth: "Kurds and Leans: Another Waize & Means Adventure." Other great movies in this series are "Waize & Means 2: Commander Cow," as well as the seminal "THE WAIZE AND MEANS COMMITTEE." Also don't forgot to check out the series, "Kurds and Leans," to see a lighter, more comidic take on the theme. ... Read more
