In 1985, Steven Spielberg launched the anthology TV series AmazingStories, directing one of the early episodes, "The Mission," a taut, emotional story set during a World War II combat flight.

Kevin Costner plays the pilot of an American bomber running raidsinto German airspace. During a dogfight with Nazis, a piece ofenemy aircraft wedges itself into the hull of Costner's rig and jams thehatch of the ball turret gunner. The shootout cripples the landing mechanism, and the net effect is that the gunner (Casey Siemaszko) is stuck in histransparent shell, unable to get back up into the body of the plane andcertain to die horribly during an imminent, emergency landing.Spielberg keeps tightening the screws, brilliantly directing a handful of goodactors (Kiefer Sutherland is in the mix) in a tight spacerapidly filling with dread and grief. While it has to be said that theresolution of "The Mission" may well be the most improbable turn of events in television history, everything up to that point is as exciting as TV can get.

Also on Book 1 is "The Wedding Ring," starring real-life spousesDanny DeVito and Rhea Perlman as a married couple who spice up their 10thyear together after DeVito, playing a costumer in a wax museum, gives hismousy bride a ring that belonged to a black-widow killer. Perlman, cast as a beleaguered waitress exploited by a callous boss, gets a personality makeover whenever she dons the ring, becoming insatiable in bed and a convincing femme fatale everywhere else. The only problem is that she's soon chasing herterrified husband around with a large kitchen knife, imbued with more thanthe sexy spirit of the ring's previous owner. Directed by DeVito, this cute episode works best as a different kind of vehicle for Perlman, who reallydoes make the screen sizzle. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best hour of TV ever
I remember watching this Amazing Stories premiere and being
rendered slackjawed for the entire episode. I can remember no
better television, ever. It was like watching 'Raiders of the
Lost Ark', '1941', and 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' all
wrapped up in an hour of tension. This is a masterpiece worthy
of film.

...and the DeVito episode is pretty good too.

:)

5-0 out of 5 stars With dream's, You live
I can seriously relate to the characters in the mission. My grandfather was a tailgunner during WWII. Once he was sick and unable to go on a mission. His entire crew and plane were destroyed on take-off. And where would I be? Out of existance. Steven Spielberg directs the first in a series of Amazing stories, a story about heart and survival. Kevin Costner is the captain of a crew of airmen in WWII. The Bellygunner dreams one day of drawing for Disney, and hopes as soon as the war is over, to work in the land of magic.

Kiefer Sutherland, a more serious character and close companion, always keeps an eye out and protects his friend nomatter the cost. On one mission in flight over enemy lands, the plane is hit my enemy fire. The good news is they can make it back to base. But the tragedy is, the door to the bellygunner is stuck and the landing wheels are jammed. Sutherland has a tremendous decision to make, and is faced with a hard decision of his life.

In a tension mounting climax, you see how the dreams and ambitions of one man can change the lives of the others around him forever. Absolutely great.

The other story, The Ring, is funny as all get out. If the decision had been left to me, I wouldn't have stuck these two stories together because they are so different. I would wait a half an hour between the two so you can get the most out of them. Devito and Pearlman have a hard lesson to learn about love, and what it takes to rekindle it. Good stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars The First Episode Reviewed, not the second!
The first episode, "The Mission", is a very enetertaining tale that anybody under the age of 20 would enjoy. I consists of fighting in WW2 and of the lives of B-17 pilots. It is a miniature "Memphis belle" yet is in its own class. A B-17 has many gun turrets on it, and one is located on the bottom of the plane. In this episode of Amazing stories, the belly gunner's bubble is damaged, and he cannot get out. To make matters worse, the bombers landing gear will not go down, so the crew has to risk a belly landing, which would spell the end of our cartoon-drawing, luftwaffae-fighting, and caring hero, Kevin Costner. The ending is surprising, and has a bit of magic to it. This is, of course, my opinion. And the music by John Williams! WOW! amazing, to say the least. Especially when the AS theme surges as the gunner frantically creates his solution to the problem. If you wanna know how it ends, scroll down as far as you can go

The gunner, being a cartoonist, frantically draws his airplane, while John Williams them races and flares. He draws his plane, and adds a pair of balloony, cartoon tires to the landing gear, which results in an impressive bending of animation and live action, for the time. And thus, the B-17 lands safely, and the gunner is united with his lady, and the crew lives happily ever after.

3-0 out of 5 stars First in the series of Amazing Stories videos not so strong.
This tape includes both "The Mission" and "The Wedding Ring." The Mission is helmed by Steven Spielberg. This special one-hour episode has his style written all over it. The cinematography is a gorgeous sepia and the winning score by John Williams is properly heroic. The whole episode is very grand for television including the superstar casting (Kevin Costner, Kiefer Sutherland). Even the screenplay is a direct, no-nonsense approach to the situation. However, the magical ending is a major letdown and is totally removed from the earthly tension Spielberg builds up through that point. In fact, one of the attempted solutions to their problem, involving passing an opened parachute through a little window to the belly gunner for him to use after he kicks out of his plexi-glass cock-pit would make for a more promising, dare I say 'Amazing' ending. Next on the tape is Danny DeVito's "Wedding Ring." This was the second season opener and, other than the star power of Rhea Perlman and husband Danny DeVito, is an un-Amazing whimper. DeVito and Perlman do portray a cute couple and the musical score by Craig Safan is enjoyable, but otherwise, this is a tired, boring story. ... Read more

After a government-spawned "superflu" wipes out more than 90 percent of the earth's population, the devastated survivors must decide whether to support or resist the advances of a mysterious stranger from way down South (heh-heh) who wishes to claim this new world order for himself. Although the six-hour length makes it nigh-impossible to digest in one sitting, this well-paced adaptation of Stephen King's apocalyptic magnum opus ranks among the best adaptations of the author's work, with strong performances from Gary Sinise, Miguel Ferrer, and especially Jamey Sheridan as a good-old-boy version of Old Scratch. The opening scene, set to the strains of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper," is one of the most chilling things ever shot for television. Director Mick Garris is no stranger to King's world, having also helmed Sleepwalkers, the recent television remake of The Shining, and the upcoming Desperation. --Andrew Wright ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing....but missing something
I eagerly bought this movie after finishing the novel. I know that a lot of movies based on books are different from the original story, but this really isn't one of them, at least not exactly. Almost all of the main and important aspects of the novel are included in the movie. The time constraints obviously play a part of the limited detail, at least compared to the novel, but what seems most annoying is the fact that different characters play the parts of characters in the book. For example, Susan Stern, who travelled in Stu Redman's group originally suddenly is part of Mother Abigail's group. It's small differences like this that get to me in this movie.

Other than that, the movie is awesome. The makeup effects used are amazing. The actors chosen to portray the characters seem perfect, especially Gary Sinise, Adam Storke, Ray Walston, Bill Fagerbakke, Jamey Sheridan and particularly Rob Lowe, who plays a wonderful Nick Andros. I've already watched this movie a number of times, and there are scenes I can't get enough of. I really like it, but I'm going to have to say, read the book first, because it will not only help you keep better track of what's going on in the movie, but it will you keep you informed on the characters as well. Plus, the book is definitely worth it's 1141 pages and you'll be really missing something without it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatness Has a Name
First off, I'd like to say I have never read the book. But I will soon. Even though, I absolutely LOVED this movie. The acting was amazing, especially the performances by Gary Sinise (can that guy play a bad role? Knock on wood) and Rob Lowe, supposedly in a comeback role. It was probably very hard for poor Rob to play a deaf mute! Anyway, the story goes that a virus created by the Army gets loose at it's base and spreads through the United States. Only a few people survive, and the ones that do are separated into two groups. One group is called in dreams by Mother Abigail (played by Ruby Dee) and the other is called by Randall Flagg, the devil (played by Jamey Sheridan, who did an awesome job). Mother Abigail's group is led by Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Adam Storke, and Rob Lowe (although he didn't lead the group, he played an incredibly important part as a retarded man named Tom Cullen. I'm talking about Bill Fagerbakke). The bad guys, led by Flagg, flock to Las Vegas (yes, Sin City itself) and the good guys go to Boulder, Colorado. I won't give away the ending, but it is truly a wonderful movie with many twists and surprises. It made me jump, scream, say aww, and at times cry ew! It is incredible!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's not the book, but what movie is?
I was disappointed in the amount of changes in the mini-series; I found the book much more filled out. However, this movie brings about all my greatest fears about the end of our way of life. I have worked in the medical field for a number of years and I have often imagined this kind of scenario. Many people focus on the religious aura of this film, but I enjoyed the all encompassing nature. Stephen King did not write about religion, or how one faith survived while all other belivers died. He wrote a story about good versus evil. Don't look for a hinted meaning and enjoy the movie; it's well worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Religious propaganda - cheap and blatant
I feel that I genuinely wasted my time watching this excessively long DVD (TV series).
It is a cheap production, proving how celebrity does not equate to talent.
Worse of all is the blatant religious "stand" which the story takes... It reminds me of the awful movie productions used by missionaries uninvitedly imposing their beliefs upon others.
Oh! And it is worth pointing out that Mr. King should stick to writing and NOT acting....
Although, it would probably appease many, and reinforce their monochrome ideas and perceptions of good and evil.....

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth it
I am a relatively new fan of Mr. Kings work. My first exposure to his material was when The Stand miniseries aired. I recently read the book and find the movie adaptation to be just about as complete as you could hope for.

The performances are good, with some nice peaks into the early works of some now well known actors.

The only disappointment for me... in both the book and the miniseries.... is that ending. Won't spoil it here. For me it was a sort of "thats it?" moment. ... Read more

Most of this second volume of stories from the 1985-87 televisionanthology series is a middling offering from former Steven Spielbergprotégé Robert Zemeckis, who later won an Oscar for directingForrest Gump. (Spielberg was the creator of Amazing Stories.)Zemeckis's episode is a bit of schlock horror called "Go to the Head of theClass," and while itstars Christopher Lloyd in a fiendish role as a decapitated teacher, and an atypical part for Mary Stuart Masterson as a manipulative teenage babe, there isn't much that sticks to the ribs.

The real treat on Book 2, however, is the animated "Family Dog,"directed by the little-known Brad Bird but supervised by Tim Burtonlong before he became a household name. A witty and observant satire on familydysfunction as seen through the eyes of a pet pooch and perennial scapegoat,"Family Dog" follows the misadventures of a sweet-natured mutt just trying tofit in with his human housemates but betrayed at every turn. Tormented by abratty boy, prodded by an exuberant toddler, and an easy target for an unhappymom and duplicitous dad, the dog can't get a break. Burton's dark sensibilitiesare certainly in play, and the animation--while owing something to Warner andDisney--is novel and expressive. One needn't worry about young viewers watchingthis one: there's no physical brutality and the comedy always prevails. Plus, the ending proves, definitively, that every dog does indeed have hisday. --Tom Keogh ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Family Dog Takes the Cake!
The Family Dog is absolutely the funniest cartoon I have ever seen. We wore out our copy years ago, and I'm so grateful to find that it's here for sale. Although we haven't seen it for eons, my family still quotes from it, and we never fail to crack up in giggles at even the memory! I can't speak for the Christopher Lloyd portion, but Family Dog is WELL worth the investment, for the youngsters as well as the adults in the family!

4-0 out of 5 stars Family Dog is the head of its Class! But, Class is a Dog.
This tape consists of "Go to the Head of the Class" and "Family Dog." Team Robert Zemeckis with his 'Back to the Future I, II, & III' & 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' star, Christopher Lloyd and you are bound to get a hysterically funny, creative tale. But, that did not happen here. Nothing of Zemeckis' (Used Cars, Contact, Forrest Gump) film making know how is evident here and Lloyd has never been more annoying. Additionally, this hour long episode has a half hour story-line stretched way too thin. Even Coffey and Masterson have no charm here. On the positive note, some of Stan Winston's (Terminator, Jurassic Park) headless effects are very impressive for 1980's television. BUT Family Dog!This could be the most successful of the entire series. After all, it spawned a spin-off series! (Very short lived). But, it is meritous. The animation is great fun. The dog's nose floating an inch off his face is hysterical and his reactions are obvious without being human. The stories themselves are smartly paced with 'real' dialogue and each is balanced with humorous music by Danny Elfman of Oingo Boingo fame. Enjoy!

4-0 out of 5 stars OH MY GOD!!!
The cartoon was unbelievably funny! That rotten little boy and the smartass dog was too too funny for words.I RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO ANYONE WITH AN ATTITUDE PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS MOVIE WILL GET RID OF IT TEMPORARILY. JUST LONG ENOUGH FOR YOU TO FORGET WHY YOU WERE MAD IN THE 1ST PLACE

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Stories Review By MaxS. McPike
When I first watched the Amazing Stories TV show I was just
stunned ,I loved it and I even thought it was better than
the Twilight Zone movie and also it was a lot different than other movies and TV shows . What I also liked about it was that it had a lot of famous people in it like: Kevin Kostner, Pat Hingle, Kiefer Sutherland, Mary Stuart Masterson,Christopher Lloyd, Rhea Perlman, and many others. I think it is fun for the whole family. P.S. I think they should put it on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST ANIMATION SHORT OF ITS TIME

5-0 out of 5 stars Psycho IV: The Beginning
You've met Norman - now meet mother. I loved this sequel (even though they say it's a prequel, it's not). It was wonderfully written by Joseph Stefano (writer of the original Psycho). Norman (Anthony Perkins) is out on parol, after his too-funny-for-words murderous rampage in Psycho III. He calls in to a radio talk show - the topic: matricide (killing of one's mother). We soon delve into Norman's psyche - going back to his childhood, and he explains, with the help of Henry Thomas (young Norman) what drove him to killing his mother (Olivia Hussey) and several other victims.
We soon find out that he is married and that his wife is pregnant. Norman is afraid that his child is going to grow up just like him, so he calls his wife and asks her to meet him at his mother's creeky house on the hill. The house is a great set piece for a fantastic conclusion to, not only this movie, but hopefully the series. Filmed at Universal Studio's, Florida. This would have been a much better follow-up to the original.

4-0 out of 5 stars You've met Norman. Now meet mother
This made for T.V.movie shows us just how Norman Bates(Anthony Perkins)become a killer. While listening to a talk radio show whose topic is "Why boys kill their mothers"?After hearing some of the people,Norman deiceds to call in and talk about his experinces with his mother growing up as a teenager and what led to Norman killing his mother. We also find out that Norman as a wife and that's she pregant and Norman is so scared that the baby will grow-up to be just like him. This was the last time we would see Anthony Perkins play his most famous character of all time.Psycho 4 is alittle bit better then the 3rd one but of course not as good as the first one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bates Checks Out
I often wonder what Alfred Hitchcock would have thought about the sequels generated around the iconic Norman Bates character that he visually created in his 1960 film PSYCHO. Joseph Stefano's original screenplay was superbly realized under Hitchcock's direction and Anthony Perkins' portrayal of Bates. Stefano is back at the scripting helm on this movie, which was originally produced for the home Pay-TV market. This movie is composed of a series of flashes from Bates' present (where Bates is engaged in interesting banter between a psychoanalyst and a Radio Phone-In host) to his past (where Bates recalls his painful and dysfunctional childhood). I have pondered the merits of this film over time. Where the character of Norman Bates may have been a screen creation of Hitchcock and Stefano, it is Perkins who owns this role and he has it down to a perverse yet enigmatic attraction for the viewer. Anthony Perkins is Norman Bates and that is the main appeal of this move and it is worth seeing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Like the Original
This film, though made for Showtime TV, was the finest 'sequel' of the Psycho films made. It is actually a prequel that tells the tale of Norman Bates' childhood experiences. Much of the material is that which was cut from Hitchock's orginal masterpiece explaining why Norman Bates was what he had become. This film gives the childhood story of Norman's life and what drove him to the psychosis he experienced. By far, this is the most excellent of the 'Psycho' movies, apart from the original 1960 masterpiece!

5-0 out of 5 stars JUST ANOTHER MOTHER OFF HER ROCKER.

4-0 out of 5 stars Freddy transcends from movies to TV
I never knew that Freddy Krueger had a TV series, until I found an episode in the store. As an avid Freddy fan (though Michael Myers is still my #1 fav!) I gave it a chance, and wow! Though not as intense as the movies (which is to be expected from 1980's TV), Robert Englund still manages to deliver his creepy, yet riotous, performance as Freddy Krueger. Many people say he became less scary as the movies went on, but I say his twisted ripoffs of one-liners makes him even better. James Bond pulls a similar stunt in all of his movies, so let's give Freddy a break and stop complaining about the movies. Robert Englund deserves a standing ovation for playing the same character for almost 20 years! In this particular episode, when a TV talk show host does an investigation into dreams that kill, Freddy attempts to stop the show, or else he won't have anyone to play with anymore! But the show goes forward, and Freddy puts the talk show host in the hospital. There's a truly great Freddy moment when he performs surgery on his patient, ripping off even more great oneliners. This is Freddy at his best! Although not as good as the movies, the TV series is still worth checking out, especially if you love Freddy! You are all his children now!

3-0 out of 5 stars Freddy Fever!
I kind of thought the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET the series was cheesy, but as a fan of Freddy, I still liked these episodes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay episode of the Elm Street tv show Freddy's Nightmares

5-0 out of 5 stars 3 classic Tales from the Crypt episodes
I've owned this video for a long time now but it is always fun to watch. Only Sin Deep is such a great story and Lea Thompson does such a great job in it. Lover Come Hack to Me is the second story in the video and it is a pretty creepy tale, but the third episode Collection Completed is more comical. Maybe they should have titled this video Tales from the Crypt Wives from hell, considering all three episides have somthing to do with woman viciously killing their men. If you liked the Tales from the Crypt t.v. show, then you will really enjoy all three of these classic episodes.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the earlier "Crypt's" , it is also one of the best!
Considered to be "Volume 2" of our series, I will be reviewing "...Only Sin Deep" , "Lover Come Hack To Me" , and "Collection Complete" , all contained in the approximate 90-minute video. "..Only Sin Deep" , starring Lea Thompson, is the tale of a street girl who just needs a little cash. She gets it, all right, from a pawn store owner, in an unusual way. She rises to the top of her game, but no sooner does she notice something is changing...something truely horrifying.

"Lover Come Hack To Me" , starring Stephen Shellen , is the story of tortured love. When a gold digger marries a wealthy young lady, things really heat up the wedding night...just not the way you might think. Amanda Plummer co-stars in this houmerous shocker, professing the old adage: "What Goes around...comes around". "Collection Completed" is the story of a fresh off reiree, Jonas (M. Emmet Walsh) who looks forward to spending quality time with his loving wife Anita (Audra Lindley) , if only she did'nt have so many pesky animals! How Jonas hates them! So he starts a new hobby. Taxidermy. Perhaps Anita will follow up likewise...just not in the way you expect. These gory tales would make any horror buff proud. And just to make things clear, I am NOT writing any of my reviews from the back of the box! These are mine! Later!

5-0 out of 5 stars ALL 3!!!!!! GREAT!!!!!!!
I LOVED ALL THREE OF THESE STORIES. THE FIRST, ONLY SIN DEEP HAS GREAT ACTING FROM LEA THOMPSON, AND IS SCRIPTED VERY WELL. THE SECOND STORY DOESNT HAVE ANY GREAT TWISTS, AND IS VERY PREDICTABLE, BUT IS STILL VERY ENTERTAINING. THE THIRD STORY IS EXTRODINARY IT HAS A GREAT TWIST AT THE END, AND A VERY COMEDIC STRUCTURE. THIS TAPE IS WELL WORTH A WATCH. END ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tales from the Crypt doesn't disappoint in this video
What does a bone-chilling story, a tomb, and a rotting corpse have in common? Tales from the Crypt! What else? This video contains DEAD WAIT with one of the best comedians/actors in history, Whoopi Goldberg. She plays a medicine woman on an island that is being taken over by a group of rebels. At the same time, a young man named Red is planning to take a valuable black pearl. What happens when their paths cross?

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet another great 'Crypt video, sure to send you shivers!
This film contains the episodes (which I will be reviewing) "Dead Wait", "People Who Live In Brass Hearses" and "Seance". I can't speak for other reviewers on this collection, but I found all installments in this video to be well-written and entertaining. "Dead Wait", which features hit TV and film star Whoppi Goldberg (who does a comedic stint with the Crypt Keeper at the end) is a tale of the strange cult of Voodoo and it's supposed magic. But how high do sacrifices go to steal a priceless treasure? Co-Starring James Remar and John Rhys-Davies, there should be lots of "heads rolling" after you see this tale! "People Who Live In Brass Hearses", starring Bill Paxton, in the tale of a common street robber and his mishappen brother (acclaimed film star Brad Dourif) as they try to take down a helpless Ice Cream vender. At the climax, the boys realize that two heads, legs, arms, etc. are better than one... "Seance" , starring Cathy Moriarty, takes a in-sight on the wicked world of tricks involvid psychics, gypsies and such. "But we all know the "Seance" we are seeing is fake, right?" , might be what our dear Alison Peters (Cathy) might say. Co-starring Ben Cross, Alison will learn how wrong she is. These three horrifying tales will do any ghoul's horror collection well. As The Cryptkeeper himself my say, "Til' next time, kiddees!"

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD
IN THE FIRST EPISODE, WHOOPIE GOLDBERG IS THE ONLY THING THAT IS ANY GOOD. THE SECOND ONE IS EXCELLENT. BRAD DOURIF GIVES AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE IN THIS VERY COMEDIC EPISODE, WITH BILL PAXTON AS WELL. THE THIRD IS VERY GOOD AS WELL, IT HAS NO TWISTED SHOCK ENDING, AND DOESNT EVEN HAVE A VERY GOOD STORY, BUT IS STILL ENTERTAINING, ESPECIALLY WITH CATHY MORIARTY, SHE IS EXCELLENT. END ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Freddy's "Trick and Treats" Review!
I actually remember this being one of my favorite episodes of the series back in its original run. Please note that this series is really intended for the die-hard Nightmare fans.

Marsha is a grad student, who despite having a fun-loving boyfriend would rather spend Halloween night, studying in the Springwood morgue. She is still haunted by memories of her psychotically-overbearing grandmother. Freddy uses her guilt over her grandmother's death to haunt her. Enter an arrogant dream supervisor who is using her to study the affects of her nightmares.

While Freddy usually only shows up to host most of these episodes, this one was one of a select few episodes to actually feature him as a central character. If you didn't like the movies, you probably won't like this show but if you're a fan, you will want to add this to your collection and quick.

1-0 out of 5 stars the worst episode
this movie was so stupid it really never showed freddy. had nothing to do with the series. i was so bored watching this movie because for these reasons... stupid, not funny, not a good plot, bad acting. I recomend you DO NOT BUY THIS MOVIE its a waste of money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Freddy's Tricks And Treats
One of the standout episodes in the lackluster T.V. series of the late 1980's. This episode features Mariska Hargitay of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" in one of her early roles as a med student who decides to spend Halloween in a morgue studying for an exam. This particular episode is not as cheesy as most of the others and the second half of it has an intrigueing subplot involving the recording of dreams for medical purposes. Worth checking out. Co-stars Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger . It is directed by Ken Wiederhorn.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good episode of the TV series Freddy's Nightmares.
Jayne Mansfield's daughter, Mariska Hargitay, stars as Marsha in this bizarre Halloween episode from the first season, "Freddy's Tricks and Treats". On Halloween Night, Marsha would rather cram for finals with cadavers than party and pull pranks with the living. But staying awake isn't always easy. . .soon she dreams of her overbearing grandmother and the town's resident dream-psychopath. The second half of this episode deals with a college kid that uses Marsha as a ginea pig as he experiments in recording dreams. Welcome to her nightmare. . . A little confusing, but enjoyable Elm Street humor prevails. ... Read more

HI EVERYONE OUT THERE IN TV OR MOVIE BUFF LAND. I'M MARTY MCINTOSH. AND I'M BACK WITH MY SECOND REVIEW. THIS TIME IT'S NORMAN. NORMAN BATES. YOU ALL GUEST IT. 1990'S PSYCHO 4: THE NEW BEGINNING. I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS MOVIE WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT ON VIDEO, ANTHONY PERKINS AS ALWAYS WAS INTERTAINING TO WATCH, NOT JUST BECAUSE HE WAS A KNIFE KILLING ALTER-EGO OF HIS MOTHER, AND GOOD AT IT AS AN ACTOR, BUT HE WAS TRYING SO HARD TO STOP SOMETHING HE COULD NOT HELP. AND AS WE ALL KNOW, HE STOP IT SUCSESSFULY. I LOVE THE ENDING TO THIS MOVIE. A FEW MONTHS AGO LAST YEAR, I BOUGHT BOTH PSYCHO 3 AND 4. AND I ALSO HAVE 1 AND 2. IN THE SERIES. 5-0 out of 5 stars Worth seeing for "Easel Kill Ya" alone
"Easel Kill Ya" is one of the best episodes of "Tales from the Crypt" ever. It features Tim Roth ("Rob Roy," "Gridlock'd," "Hoodlum"), one of my favorite actors, as a disturbed and uninspired artist who discovers inspiration in painting pictures of murder scenes... murders that he commits himself! Things get complicated when he meets a woman who can make him a happier man and change his murderous ways, but will his misdeeds catch up to him? One of the best concepts ever, and unlike a lot of these episodes, it's done correctly. The original comic book story (these old comics are available in reprints) was excellent too, although it looked a bit annoying the way the overwritten text was squeezed into seven and a half pages. This same concept was repeated in another comic book story called "Accidents and Old Lace," but that story was not as good.

"Well Cooked Hams" wasn't bad either. "Halfway Horrible" had a good concept but wasn't done very well, and since all these episodes are adapted from old comic books, the makers of this episode cannot be credited for the concept. But get this video for "Easel Kill Ya" alone.

3-0 out of 5 stars TWO OUT OF 3 AINT THAT BAD
THIS TAPE GRTS DRAGGED DOWN TO A 6 DUE TO THE SECOND STORY, HALFWAY HORRIBLE. IT IS AWFUL, AND ALSO THE WORSE EPISODE THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE, IT IS INCREDIBLY BORING. THE FIRST EPISODE, WELL COOKED HAMS IS ALLRIGHT. THE THIRD EPISODE, EASIL KILL YA IS GREAT. AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE BY TIM ROTH IN THE THIRD ONE. 5-0 out of 5 stars Two of the Best Episodes in One Tape!
One of my favorite episodes is Dig that Cat..He's Real Gone. In this episode, a bum gets a procedure that gives him nine lives like a cat. He decides to do the whole side show bit and it doesn't turn out the way he thinks it will. The Man Who Was Death is a great episode about a executioner that gets put out of business by a new law. Then he decides to take the law in his own hands. This is great!

Big inprovment!:More Freddy then NO MORE MR.NICE GUY!

2-0 out of 5 stars It's My Party
Get past the tenth rate acting and cheap production values and you have a not too bad (not even decent either) entry to the all too cheesy, piece of crap TV series. The first half of this episode truly sucks as it spoofs "The Exorcist", but the second half isn't bad. The second half deals with Freddy's graduating class coming back to Springwood for their high school reunion and just finding out that the kid that wore that dirty red and green sweater all the time is not only dead, but a vicious child molester and murderer. One of his peers, a Hollywood horror film screenwriter, decides to exploit Freddy's story for the screen (it would make an excellent movie right?). For the Nightmare completist. Anyone looking for quality, look away.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for any Freddy fan!
If you like Freddy because of his way with words and his talent for FX-laden deaths, this tape is defintely for you. No pesky plot or realistic dialouge gets in the way of the gore! Robert Englund looks like he had fun with this one! For people who enjoyed Nightmare 2, or Freddy's Dead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good episode of Elm Street series Freddy's Nightmares
"It's my Party" is from the second season of the tv show Freddy's Nightmares. A phony psychic channeler gets more than she bargains for when she invites a spirit to take over her body-- and Freddy accepts the invitation. The second half of the episode centers on a woman waiting to go to her class reunion and dreaming of the man she played a prank on in high school-- you know who. A plot twist leads to a script being written for A Nightmare on Elm Street. Good tongue-in-cheek Freddy humor at its' peak. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
i used to be a big fan of the tv series. and this episode isnt really your typical freddy slasher. its just like the dude from kosivo said take this episode for what it is. now keep in mind that the episodes took place in the late 80s real early 90s. tv shows wernt exactly how it is now. but over and all this is a pretty good episode even though i dont remember seeing this on tv a while ago. but if your a big nightmare fan such as myself and a big fan of late 80s and early 90s tv shows i recamend that you buy all the freddys nightmare episodes that are on sale right now

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad, for a low-budget series.
Like 1960's Batman, this series is campy. Don't look for unpredictable plots, state-of-the-art effects, or a mildly good scare. Take the series for what it is. A low-budget extension of the films. I didn't become a Freddy fan to be scared, I enjoyed his humor. Just take each episode with a grain of salt, willingly suspend your disbelief, and do your best to enjoy this series. Nearly every Freddy appearance is comedic and a treat. This episode is no exception.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lucky Stiff
Of all the terrible episodes of this lousy TV series I've seen, this is the worst! There is no reason to see this cliched "scheming wife killing her husband to run away with another lover only to discover that her husband was buried with a winning lottery ticket" piece of garbage! Only for the "Nightmare On Elm Street" completists. This video features Mary Crosby of "Dallas" and David Lander of "Laverne and Shirley" as the couple. It was directed (?) without passion, suspense or anything else film makers put into their work by William Malone. It co-stars Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. If you want an episode of Freddy's Nightmares check out any other one but this!

1-0 out of 5 stars This is one of the more dumb episodes of the tv series.
Lucky stiff is an episode of Freddy's Nightmares taken from the second season of the series. It deals with a woman whose husband won the lotto-- but she only learns of it after his death. The ticket is missing and presumed to be in the jacket she buried him in. One of the duller eps of the show, Freddy is not a central character in the story, as he is in the other 4 videotapes that were released. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Supurb acting by supurb talent in this freakish "'Crypt".
This "Tales From The Crypt" video seemingly features great talent from great film stars past and present. From this video, I'll be reviewing "What's Cookin'?" , "Split Personality" and "As Ye Sow" . "What's Cookin'?", starring Christopher Reed (one of his best and most recent before his accident) , and Meatloaf (?!) , this is a houmerous tale of...well...kind of canibalisim, I guess. Let's just say some "special" meat is imported. Lot's of tounge-in-cheek material. The kind of 'Crypt you'd bring home to mom. "Split Personality" , featuring award winning actor Joe Pesci is a houmerous tale as well, as he dates two identical sisters at the same time, fooling them into thinking that he himself has a twin (he does not) . It's not untill he marries BOTH untill things REALLY heat up.... "As Ye Sow" , starring Hector Elizondo, John Shea and Patsy Kensit is a tale of a man who believes his wife to be cheating on him with a local priest. However, things are not always as they seem, as ending draws to a very shocking yet ironic end. Overall, another great "Tales From The Crypt" video. They're all good with variety. "What's Cookin'?" has humor, "Split Personality" has that gore you crave, and "As Ye Sow" is a great date 'Crypt! Well. No, not really, it's not. Later!

5-0 out of 5 stars REALLY GOOD
THE FIRST STORIE, WELL COOKED HAMS IS GREAT, AND HAS A VERY ENTERTAINING STORIE. THE SECOND, SPLIT PERSONALITY IS EVEN BETTER, WITH AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE FROM JOE PESCI. THE THIRD IS THE BEST, IT HAS AN EXCELLENT STORY, AND A GREAT PERFORMANCE BY HECTOR ELIZONDO. MUST SEE!!!!!!!! END ... Read more

The third volume of collected episodes from Steven Spielberg's mid-1980stelevision series Amazing Stories includes three memorablestories. First up is "The Amazing Falsworth," a cat-and-mouse thrillerstarring Gregory Hines as the title character, a nightclub psychic whose act includes reading the minds of audience members by merely touching them.During a performance Falsworth comes into physical contactwith a serial killer; he sees the monster's most recent victims in his mind and grows terrified for his own safety. Enter a skeptical police detective(Richard Masur) whose real identity is so obvious that director Peter Hyams doesn't bother to mask it well. One complaint: theepisode begins with some truly grisly and gratuitous violence that, inretrospect, had no place in a fantasy series squarely aimed at families and boasting Spielberg's involvement. Kids should notsee "The Amazing Falsworth"--or anything else on Book 3, for that matter.

The second episode is certainly one of the most thoughtful in the series:"Life on Death Row," starring Patrick Swayze in an interesting performance as a convicted murderer. Scheduled to die imminently in the electric chair,Swayze's character, Eric Peterson, joins an escape effort and is hit bylightning during a storm. The freak accident bestows on him the power toheal the sick and wounded--a cruelly ironic development, given Peterson'sforeshortened destiny.

The final story, "No Day at the Beach," begins the day before the D-Dayinvasion of Normandy by allied forces, and concentrates on a handful ofsoldiers as they ready themselves psychologically for this turning point in the battle. Charlie Sheen is the best-known name among the cast in thisblack-and-white, Twilight Zone-like drama directed by Lesli LinkaGlatter. Sheen's character stands outas the one guy in his company refusing to taunt a simple-mindedGI who later becomes a hero at Normandy--or is it someone else besides that poor sap boldly taking out Germans left and right? --Tom Keogh ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Kind of Amazing
Being a Patrick Swayze fan, I purchased this video to check out his vignette. All of the stories in this video are interesting and well acted, but I wouldn't place the movie on my list of all time favorites.

4-0 out of 5 stars Falsworth worth its weight and Death Row worth living for.
This tape consists of three episodes: 'The Amazing Falsworth', 'No Day at the Beach' and 'Life on Death Row.' Peter Hyams (Running Scared, 2010) presents the suspense yarn 'Falsworth'with definate, economical camera work and 2 very respectful performances by GregoryHines as the magician and Richard Masur as the psychopathic killer. Like a well-paced short story, the viewer is presented with information only when needed. Mix this in with some of the best 'Alfred Hitchcock' mysteries. Leslie Linka Glatter (Deep Impact, Without Diana) delivers the lopsided drama 'No Day at the Beach'. It does boast gorgeous black and white photography, a slick short story, a performance by post 'Platoon' Charlie Sheen, and a strong re-creation of D-Day. Okay, it is no 'Saving Private Ryan' but Linka Glatter masterfully uses stock WWII footage edited with new footage to create a reality that would otherwise destroy an entire series budget! However, the nebbish Arnold is a cartoon character in this otherwise real story. It serves as a major distraction, especially in the early scenes. Also, the manipulative reading of the letter is very off-focus and stands as an obvious emotional ploy even with Sheen in good form. Finally, Life on Death Row. The only problem with this episode is that it is too darn short. The story just moves along too quickly and doesn't allow the viewer to experience some of the interesting concepts. And the episode could be filled with them. Patrick Swayze and Hector Elizondo give strong performances. Once again, prison proves to be a cinematographer and lighting directors best friend. ... This fourth volume of collected episodes from Steven Spielberg's 1980santhology television series begins with some heavyweight talent. MartinScorsese directs "Mirror Mirror," arguably the most frightening andaccomplished episode from the show's entire run. Sam Waterston plays a wildly successful horror novelist who claims never to be frightened of the samescary stories that unnerve ordinary mortals. So he begins living one of his own, and terrifying it is: whenever he looks in a mirror or other reflective surface, Waterston's character sees a hideous ghoul stalking him, prepared for murder. The trouble is that there is no corresponding danger in the real world, although the ghoul is determined to get its hands on thebeleaguered author.

Also on tap is "Blue Man Down," a solid action piece with supernaturalovertones, written by Spielberg. Max Gail stars as a traumatized,guilt-ridden cop who blames himself for the murder of his young partner. His confidence shot and his nerves a wreck, the suffering heroattempts to hide within the lesser duties of traffic detail, only to findhimself partnered with a compassionate, attractive female officer (KateMcNeil) who helps him get back on his feet and pushes him toward full duty again. The downside: no one else appears to see her. Actor-director PaulMichael Glaser does some of his best behind-the-camera work on this show.

Finally, Sid Caesar stars in "Mr. Magic," a sentimental tale of anaging, washed-up nightclub magician who purchases a set of cards withmarvelous powers of flight. Rescued from the trash heap of small-timehas-beens, Caesar's character gets a new lease on life when his cards takeover the act, twirling, flying, mimicking people, and astoundingaudiences--with no help from Caesar. --Tom Keogh. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bringing out the dead...of the mind...
Remember when you were young and you were told not to watch a movie, or read horror or comic books because they would warp your mind. Here, chillingly is that saying realized. Imagine a writer of horror, a successful person that has had his novels plastered on the big screen. He is the person everybody is talking about, and in the book world he is what every writer wants to be. While on a talk show he is asked whether or not he fears his influence has endangered the minds of youngsters. He replies rather smerkly, "How could something not real hurt the minds of children."

Is it true that your own mind can punish you for damage done? Is there any escape? These questions are answered as the main character takes a spiraled decent into the darkness that he has created. He himself has to deal with the damage his imagination has summoned - To pay the price for what he has released into the world.
Real great story, that you won't forget any time soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Genuinely Frightening Excursion
It was probably "Amazing Stories" schizophrenic nature - amusing family-oriented fare coupled with more mature offerings - that led to the show only lasting one season. An example of the latter is "Mirror, Mirror," a scary story about a Stephen King-like author "stalked" by a mystery figure similar to one of the characters of his novels. Only the author, well-played by a pre-"Law & Order" Sam Waterson can see the spectre until the story's final few seconds. If the show had stuck to one genre, say of the horror/thriller vein, then it may have had a longer run. This reviewed story is, undeniably, one of the program's best.

The second installment in this tape benefits by being paired with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't believe this is television!
This tape consist of three stories, 'Mirror, Mirror','Blue Man Down' and 'Mr. Magic.'Martin Scorcese(Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas) makes a directing appearance in the stylish little horror "Mirror, Mirror". The portrayal of the estranged relationship with his ex-girlfriend is very smart and economical, especially for television. The antiseptic white home is a unique environment to have a horror story played out. The phantom, played by Tim Robbins in unrecognizable make-up is appropriately menacing to Waterston, but only in reflections. The concept does become frightening and the musical score by Michael Kamen joins in the fun. Next, Blue Man Down...This strong episode is also one of the most unique in the series. Max Gail does a great job with 22 minute character building and Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky and Hutch) handles directing this mini cop drama very well. It is easily defined and yet, could actually warrant second viewing surprises. Finally, 'Mr. Magic'.This impressive piece stars Sid Caesar as Lou Bundles, a slight of hand magician who's slight of hand has slid. His understanding of the character is wonderful and Petrie does a great job of letting Sid go. This is one of the few episodes that actually tugs at you emotionally. Very powerful. Of the 5 tapes, this has the most consistent work. Enjoy! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars great fun to watch if you don't take it too seriously
"Sleepwalkers" is one of the better Stephen King movies and has all you'd expect from a B-class horror / fantasy flick such as this. The plot, while not over intelligent, holds some nice suprises. And some of the death scenes are awesome!

The cast is extraordinary for a rather cheap production such as this. Alice Krige, who some might remember as the Borg Queen of Star Trek fame, is excellent in the role of the evil mother. Also a must-see seeing is young Mädchen Amick, whom we know from "Twin Peaks" - she is as sexy as it gets and pulls off some really cute dancing that really blew me away. As a special bonus you get short appearances of Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Clive Barker (Hellraiser) and Stephen King himself.

The visual F/X were cutting-edge when the movie came out it 1992 - it was one of the first to feature computer-generated morphing effects. Still looks good today although not spectacular.

All in all, this movie is certainly not groundbreaking but you'll enjoy it if you're into this genre, can forgive some cheesiness and like movies with the certain "cult" effect.

4-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining underrated film.
An son (Brain Krause) & his mother (Alice Krige) has been killing young virgins to feed his mother. Thier enemies are Cats. An young teenage girl (Madchen Amick) has taking the liking of Charles (Krause) but his mother has the urge of been feed in a vampire-like hunger.

Written by novelist:Stephen King (Carrie, The Green Mile) is filled with sharp sense of humor. Directed by Mick Garris (The Stand and T.V. Remake of The Shining) makes it a Enjoyable to Watch and it was also a Box Office Hit. DVD has an sharp anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) transfer (also in Pan & Scan) with an strong-Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround Sound. Watch for Stephen King, Tobe Hooper, Joe Dante, John Landis and Clive Barker in Cameos. Mark Hamill appears Unbilled. Grade:B+.

3-0 out of 5 stars You sexy mother
I always had a secret crush on this little movie (secret, maybe because I wouldn't want people to think that I get turned on by mother-son incest!) But I do find their love affair kinda sexy. I love that scene early on in the movie when they dance together to the sound of a lovely, oldie music. The mother is tall, thin and beautiful, with long, silky hair and a bone structure to die for. The kid is a blond non-entity. I always wanted more of that mother-son thing and less of everything else.
I don't care about the teen-aged girl and I never could stand the actress that plays her part - but here she is at her youngest and least obnoxious.
I remember playing the scene when the boy turns into a monster over and over again in slow motion. That special effect was a big deal back then.
I don't find cats very terrific opponents to such a formidable mother and I don't get where King found his inspiration to create this myth. Minus the cats this movie might have been greater, I don't know.

1-0 out of 5 stars This movie was terrible how can anyone give it 2 stars
DO NOT SEE THIS HORRID BAD SORRY EXCUSE FOR A MOVIE

1-0 out of 5 stars Truly terrible
Stephen King adapatations can usually be put into two categories - outstanding or awful. This effort falls into the latter one. It's about an incestuous mother and son who are sleepwalkers. By this it means that they feed off smalltown virgins and are terrified of cats not, as you might imagine, that they walk in their sleep or even that they can only come out at night. When the couple arrive at a new town they find the perfect candidate for their next meal. However, as anyone who has watched a horror movie before will know, teenage girls are always stronger than they first appear.

It's hard to pinpoint what was worst about 'Sleepwalkers'. The mother and son relationship is presented in front of the audience but never explored, just exploited with every reply being 'oh mother'. The acting, too, is hammy. Plus, there are very few scares as house cats represented as fearless demon killers is quite frankly ludicrous. Still, there's something reasonably interesting in seeing a house surrounded by cats in a way reminiscent of Hitchcock's 'The Birds'.

If there's anything redeemable about this movie at all it's the special effects and make-up, which are highly impressive, and the spotting of various cameos from Stephen King, Tobe Hooper and Mark Hamill. This is one of those rare movies that seems to take itself a little bit too seriously in straining to achieve some kind of sympathy for the hideoues sleepwalkers of the title. In doing so, it actually becomes very amusing and has all the makings of a small cult classic. But it's still atrocious. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tim Curry is outstanding in this!
Even if you are not a huge Tim Curry fan you'll enjoy his talented performances in this one. Eddie Murphy, eat your heart out! (Tim pulls off 3 characters in the same skit beautifully, along with great makeup and costume you can really buy that these are 3 family members, not just Tim in 3 costumes.) Bravo! The "sex" scene is a little much, but well worth it for seeing some truely original stuff by this great actor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tim Curry is God..............
This is a preformance (by my favorite actor) by Tim Curry that you must not miss! Tales from the Crypt was really thinking for once when they cast Tim Curry for the lead role. I encourage you all to by it. The 2nd episode on the tape, stunk, but the third was sexually fired up! I demand you all to see it!

4-0 out of 5 stars 1 IS THE BEST
THE FIRST EPISODE, WITH TIM CURRY IN THREE DIFFERENT SLACK JAWED YOKAL, HICK PARTS IS THE ONE TO SEE. TIM CURRY GIVES A GREAT PERFORMANCE. THE SECOND ONE IS IDIODIC, AND VERY LOWSY. THE THIRD IS PREETY GOOD, BUT TOO SEX BASED. END ...
