4-0 out of 5 stars cheesy classic
i saw this movie many years ago and have recently aquired it in my collection purley for the characters involved.jack hulbert along with his brother claude truley make this film. ok so the sound quality is poor and so is some of the acting you carn't knock the old classic. vintage london undergrond is great and a treat to see but that's not all, the chivarly of hulbert evan though his a fake is great. ubove all the reviews and comments you'll only watch this movie if your into british vintage comedy if your not don't bother watching it you'll only end up criticising it and your comment wont be worth a carrot to the true die hard fan. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
This is a short, silly movie. The reason for having this tape is the singing of Richard Tauber, not quite at his best performing in English, but, nevertheless, one of the greatest tenors of the century. His screen character is given an Italian name -- not credible for a moment because his voice and accent are obviously Germanic. But I don't care about that; I just want to see and hear him. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of this cassette chose to issue it in extended play format, at great cost to picture quality (reduced tape longevity can also be expected at this playback speed). It's difficult to understand why anyone would be so cheap. If they needed to save on tape, they should have excerpted the musical selections and cut out the rest of the movie, since Tauber's singing is the only worthwhile thing in it anyway. This cassette is worth just about what it costs -- under $5. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quaint Story of Time Travel to Merry Olde England!
This is a quaint story about a scientist, a socialite, and several actors who enter a large metal ball that transports them to the past in merry olde England where they befriend William Shakespear and the socialite tells him how to complete a story he was writing. They show Queen Elizabeth picture postcards of America, which surprises her to see the Empire State Building and other sights in Manhattan (New York City), they run afoul of the authorities when one of the characters offers a pipe full of tobacco to Walter Raleigh before he discovers tobacco in the Virginia colony later; they are jailed where they manage to show a motion picture camera's image on the walls and confuse their captors, those effecting their escape and going back into the time travel machine to the future, 1944. It is an entertaining comedy during a time, World War Two, when America needed a diversion from the war, this light comedy provides that escape. Unfortunately you no longer see old films like this on television late at night, what a pity we no longer can stay up late to see such films and Johnny Carson! ... Read more
