ONE OF THE GREAT TELEVISION SERIES
James Garner is one of the finest actors in television history. Unlike many actors in long-running series, he gives a fine performance in every episode. The true charm of the series is a combination of his acting ability and the terrific supporting cast and guest stars in addition to great script writing. The episodes are not simply "action" stories but frequently deal with the psychology of the various leading characters as well as the social mores of the United States and more specifically Southern California in the 1970's, sometimes seriously, sometimes in a satirical or humorous way, but always interesting.
Why isn't there TV like this any more?

Great episode, slightly flawed presentation.
This is a clever episode from the show's brilliant first season. Private eye Jim Rockford tries to track down a man who may have faked his death to grab a $400,000 insurance claim. James Garner already seemed completely comfortable in the shoes of Rockford, and there's great support from guest star Jill Clayburgh (who manages to look cute in a '70s-style afro).

For diehard fans of the series, however, there's a rather egregious cut made of a crucial scene that shows how Jim gets out of a scrape. Viewers who haven't seen the missing footage will find themselves wondering what happened. It seems that MCA Home Video used a syndication print, rather than an original master. In sum, then, five stars for the episode and the visual quality of the print -- but two stars must be subtracted from the overall rating given the editing.

"Rockford," by the way, is a series that cries out for a comprehensive release in the Columbia House Video Library series. ... Read more

"Twenty thousand dollars buys a lot of gro-cer-ies."
I've bought all the "Rockford Files" episodes that seem to be on the market (except for "Nice Guys Finish Dead"), and this one, "The Kirkoff Case", is my favorite of them. It's entertaining from start to finish, and it exemplifies the producers' ability to pack so many memorable, humourous, yet believeable scenes into so little time without making things seem rushed.

Guest star James Woods is superb as Larry Kirkoff, particularly in those distracted-in-thought facial expressions he makes a few times while Rockford is talking to him. Regular Joe Santos is especially strong in his performance as Sgt. Dennis Becker. And guest Abe Vigoda is perfect in appearance, voice, and subtle hand movements in his brief role as "labor-union" (mob) boss Al Dancer.

QUINTESSENTIAL JIM!!!AWESOME EPISODE(S)!!!!!
Henri-a memorable encounter! It is hard to say that one scene is better than another. Order what you like but I strongly suggest the green corn tamales - a diamond in the rough...We can recite lines from this all day if necessary. Jim and his pal Kendall are classic in their repartee with Mr. Fantazzi in the costume shop - proving that it is true that brain surgery is not for everyone. Angel Martin with a dead rat between his teeth for $20.00 would be priceless to see-would go great with a bottle of Chateau Neuff de pop(sp?). It is possible that for you reading this that these names are meaningless. I can only say that if you are looking for a chicken that gets your mojo working from the GREATEST SHOW EVER MADE FOR TV you order ASAP and it will all fall into place:) Arrive twenty minutes early to wait in the bar! ... I saw this movie as a child, and it made a lifetime impression on me. It was heart-warming, and very compelling!! I would recommend this to everyone! A great movie. IF you like civil war movies, "The Blue and The Grey" is on the same line as "Beulah Land"

Fantastic Movie About The Old South
If you are looking for a movie about the south in the Civil War era, buy this movie. You won't be sorry. The acting and the story line is one of the best by far. It is not as good as Gone With The Wind, but it comes very close. It is a very touching story and really gives insight to how people in that era had to live to servive. I have watched this movie several times and enjoy it every time as if it was the first.

Great Movie
I believe this was a great movie, it was no near Gone with the Wind , but in a totally different live. It shows thestoory of the old south from a very different perspective. I would recommend this ,movie to anybody who is interested in movies about the old south

Disappointed
This movie was not what I expected, I really did not like any of the characters in it and it is obvious it was never a blockbuster movie. It was certainly no Gone With the Wind, not even close. I was anxious to see it and enjoyed it enough to watch the whole thing however, I would not recommend it as the movie to see. I will never watch it again. It was not moving, exciting nor interesting to listen to. I will keep it in my collection in the event someone else wants to see it when they have nothing better to do.

Great Southern Movie
Beulah Land was an excellent movie. It compared well with Gone With the Wind beign a great southern movie. But it is in a totally different league, because it was about more than just the war and the years following it. It was one of the best movies I had ever seen. Back before her two Oscars, before "You like me, you really like me," Sally Field was the young darling of TV sitcoms, first as the beach bunny Gidget, and then, improbably, as the young nun Sister Bertrille whose starched cornette doubled as an aerodynamic apparatus. In the first of the two Christmas episodes included here, Sister Bertrille and the other nuns at the Sisters of Convent San Tanco in Puerto Rico are preparing for their holiday gift exchange. Heartwarming Old Fashioned Christmas Viewing
Here are two episodes from the totally delightful late 1960's comedy series "The Flying Nun" starring Sally Field as the perky and lovable Sister Bertrille. Despite being the target for alot of todays quite hardened critics this terrific little series lives on in people's hearts. I know I grew up watching it and still hold it in great affection.

This tape is the Christmas special and contains two episodes from the first season of the show. The first is the only Christmas themed episode of the series "Walking In A Winter Wonderland" which is a sentimental delight as Sister Bertrille gets into all types of trouble trying to bring to reality a dying wish of a visiting nun from Norway who wants to see one last white christmas. The second episode from later in the first season "The Reconversion Of Sister Shapiro" while not a Christmas episode is almost as good when a young jewish girl stays at the convent and wants to be just like her idol Sister Bertrille , even to the point of her wearing a nun's habit at eight years of age!

"The Flying Nun' had a sweet innocent quality to it but also benefited from a terrific cast of very talented performers. Sally Field of course went on to become a great dramatic actress and double Oscar winner while the supporting cast boasted the talented Broadway actress Madeleine Sherwood in the role of the stern but caring Reverend Mother of the convent and the terrific Marge Redmond as Sister Jacqueline, Sister Bertrille's friend and cohort in many schemes around the convent.

"The Flying Nun" is television from the closing period of the age of innocence but this tape makes for delightful viewing in the festive season. "Diamonds, daisies, snowflakes... sable, popcorn, white wine... is that girl," describes the opening theme music of TV's That Girl about the independent Ann Marie, a young actress trying to make it on her own in New York City in the late 1960s. Before Mary Richards "made it after all" in Minneapolis, Marlo Thomas portrayed the feisty Ann, a seemingly feminist woman (by modern standards, her desire to please her father and her devotion to being the perfect girl for her boyfriend Donald seem less than liberated) who gets herself into scrapes and mishaps of the variety familiar to those who grew up on I Love Lucy as she attempts to become an actress.

The three episodes on "Auditions, Auditions, Auditions" deal, not surprisingly, with Ann's endeavors to get on the stage or screen. In the first, "Call of the Wild," Ann, for once, is upset to get a role:she wins the part of "Miss Creamy Girl" in a soap ad because of her lack of sex appeal (she's "like hot dogs, apple pie... the girl scout that stays a girl scout forever"). To spice up her act, she decides try out a striptease routine, only to have her father walk in on her. "Nobody Here but Us Chickens" has Ann going for new lows in the form of "Miss Chicken Big." She takes acting lessons from a chicken, performs a courtship dance in a hideous bright yellow chicken suit, and fends off advances from Chicken Big's big chicken, Major Culpepper (played with hick charm by Slim Pickens). Finally, in "The Snow Must Go On," Ann and Donald need to drop Ann's parents off at Kennedy airport and get Ann back into the city in time for an important Broadway audition. Will Ann ever win?
Ann tries her darndest to get acting work in these three episodes.

'Calls Of The Wild' sees Ann to get some 'sex appeal' to further her chances of acting work. Don tries to console our darling heroine.

'Nobody Here But Us Chickens' has Ann getting the job of 'Miss Chicken Big',a mascot in a chicken fast food chain. Unfortunately,the boss has designs on the unsuspecting Ann.

Real good TV!
Watching this video brought back alot of good childhood memories! James Garner has presence that few actors can match, and this is from the days of quality TV.

This one was one of my favorites and when watching again after all these years, I know why. Nice snappy plot, good acting by Garner, Margolin, Reiner and Co. and welcome lack of trash so prevalent elsewhere. We need more like this! ... Read more

A FLYING CLASSIC
This is one of my favorite shows. I love Sally, she's a delight in "The Flying Nun", and "Gidget". This is the episode that flew her into our homes. I remember running down the stairs screaming for my sister to come and watch. This is the pilot show which aired on Thursday the 7th, 1967 at 7:30 to 8:30, {an hour long}on ABC. You don't see this show in it's full length on TV for after it was aired the first time it was cut down to a half-hour for sendication. This is a must for anybody who likes old TV pilot shows.

Ultra-Cool Retro Viewing!
I love Sally Field as the spunky Sister Elsie Bertrille! The theme song,'Don't Need Wings To Fly',is lovely and the supporting cast,including Marge Redmond as Sister Jacqueline,and Shelley Morrison as Sister Sisto are great. Sally Field was in sitcoms continously from the late 60s to the early 70s,firstly in the short-lived 'Gidget',and then as 'The Flying Nun'. Kate, Farrah and Jaclyn at their best
This one episode alone displays the essence of "Charlie's Angels." It's what the pop-culture obsession, that continues to this day, is all about. This episode comes from the first season, in the fall of 1976. I believe it's show number four. Sabrina, Jill, and Kelly are given the undercover assignment to investigate crimes, ranging from rape to murder, in an all-women's prison. It's non-stop action from the moment the trio is picked up on false drug possession charges. Watch for the action and excitement as the three try to escape their own deadly fate with the bad guys... It's probably the most popular and well-known of all the episodes in the show's history. By the way, in or out of prison, these girls always look GREAT...

the episode ever!!!
This episode only tells me how old I am now. Not that I am old but HELLO!, This was over fifteen years ago and I actully remember watching this with my mother. Now here I am watching it again and this campy show is the best episode of all of the series. Thank God, I found it at Sam's. Don't you just love Farrah's Do.
And best of all the three Angels, Jill,Kelly, Sabrina are just beautiful and hey at least the show gave them some brains. Which is something of a miracle for women shows that came out of the seventies which were not many. Being a kid that was born in the mid-seventies I was bombared with t.v. reruns and I was lucky inough to be able to come home and watch this show. The three original Angel's are the best. Cherly Ladd, was great too. But...it just wasn't the same after Farrah left the show. Eventhough though later she did make guest appearances. So buy this video and relive the spirit of the seventies with "Charlie's Angels". Oh, and an added bonus, check out a young fresh Kim Basinger.

CULT FAVE EPISODE of the classic 1970's series
This episode has become a cult classic!The angels go undercover as prison inmates to uncover a prostitution ring. Among the guests stars of this episode are Lauren Tewes(Julie on Love Boat) and a young Kim Bassinger. But the real treat is seeing cult movie icon MARY WARONOV of "Eating Raoul,","Rock and roll high school" and Andy Warhol fame. Seeing Mary Woronov as a sadistic prison warden is a hoot and any Woronov fan needs to own this episode! "Angels in Chains"...the quintessential Charlie's Angels episode!

Before Buffy, there were the angels.
Before the show was sullied by the addition of Cheryl Ladd, Shelly Hack and Tanya Roberts, it was an unlikely example of both feminisim (women working together to save each other from abuse) and anti-feminism (the bad woman is still butch and grotesque).

Featuring a very young Kim Bassinger, this episode is a classic for Charlie's Angels fans. Set approximately in the first half of the first season of the ABC series, it features flouncy hair, guns and empowered women. This time, the angels are going undercover in a corupt women's prison to save women from being the warden's call girls.

Yes, the idea of a prison prostitution ring is designed to titilate the audience, but the fact that the Angels are resucing those women breaks from the traditional damsel in distress routine. Although critics blasted it and suggested that it was a cheesecake factory, it (unlike the modern counterpart, baywatch) is much less exploitative for women.

This series is so much more, that is should be considered the path breaker for Buffy the Vampire Slayer which shows brains and beauty can coexist. ... Read more

Fantastic DVD release
CHARLIE'S ANGELS gets a wonderful DVD release with perfect picture and two choice episodes.

Farrah Fawcett-Majors, Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson star in two stories from the memorable first season; "Night Of The Strangler" and "To Kill An Angel". The only main qualm is the lack of chapters in the episodes.

Also included is the entertaining "Angels Forever" retrospective featurette which quizzes fans of the show as well as providing footage from the show and details from later cast members including Cheryl Ladd and Tanya Roberts.

Pretty impressive DVD package all-round!

This two-part special edition is definitely a collector's item especially for those die-hard "Charlie's Angels" fans.It features Jaclyn Smith, who deserves the recognition as the "most angelic of them all," and two of the best episodes of the series. We're not talking award-winning stuff in this dvd issue but an outstanding entertainment to "visit" the undisputed queens of the 70s television.

The episode "Night of the Strangler" shows why Jaclyn Smith lasted so long in the series. Her looks and style are timeless plus that scene in her famous white bikini is a must to see. Of course, Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett are on hand to complete the trio.

For the episode "To Kill An Angel," new fans will be surprise that the show is not just pure bikini's and guns. It showcases also the dramatic sides of the trio.

The cover alone is worth the trip, so buy it now and collect! A must!

Charlie how do you your Angels get down
OMG, please tell me this is the first of many more to come, Having the Angels on DVD is way fun. One mishap though, NO SCENE SELECTION. But it makes up for that with the Angel Featurette and the digitally enhanced audio and video.

WONDEFUL lots of added features and Angels Forever is highlights from alot of the shows.This is a must for any Charlie,s Angels fan. Columbia and Tristar have done a GREAT job. Hope they come out with more. Charlie would give them all a week off with pay ,for a job well done.

Just finished viewing The DVD and in addition to the Two Classic epiodes mentioned in the description, the DVD also has an Exclusive Featurette Titled "Angels Forever"! This 20 Minute Documentary tells of The Impact that Charlies Angels has had on Various Fans and includes Vintage Scenes from The Series from The Farrah Year until the Tanya Roberts Last Year! The Special Feature Contains Hilarious Montages made of vintage scenes from the series! It made me realise why I loved Charlies Angels so much as a Kid and Love it even more now as an adult! The Show was Pure Fun and Escapism an I really missed those days when I would eagerly await every Wed Night for a New Angel Episode and to see what the Angels were Wearing(and in many cases not wearing). Hey for a 13 year old, seeing Farrah Fawcett's Nipples was a Big Deal(probably would not even be talked about today). If your an Angel Fan, you really need this DVD. Surprising movie

I saw it several years ago, translated in italian (Il deserto della paura)that's fantastic, what an atmosphere, what a suspance, and the actors are all inspired and well involved in the story. this video was ok.......
i am a big fan of Magnum P.I. Probably the biggest fan in the world. i have seen every episode at least twice and this episode of magnum isnt one of the ones i would have made available for vhs. Personally my favorite episodes have to do with when Magnum and Higgins are fighting over whatever. the episode "Paper War" is a really really good one. Magnum and Higgins are trapped in an elevator in it. Its really funny. MCA if you are listening why dont you guys have every single Magnum P.I. episode on vhs in a box set. Or even better DVD. Thanks.

Okay, Three and A Half
"Magnum P.I.", probably the best series in television history..It had everything...all the major elements, Drama, Action, Comedy and Mystery. In most cases, the actors worked perfectly off each other, especially Hillerman, and Selleck. What can be said about "Murder 101"? Another fine episode, but I think there are quite a few others that may have deserved the treatment of video above this one. The bonuses of purchasing the video, instead of just watching it on television? You get to see the original fifth season opening, not the one they play over, and over, with each episode in syndication, you get to see an extra three minutes of the episode, cut out in syndication, for more commercial time. All in all, good episode, worth purchase, I just wish there were more available, and it seems like the television section of video stores is slowly fading away.

Hot for Teacher
Murder 101 (a.k.a. Private Investigation 101) is one of the funniest, most tongue-in-cheek, episodes of Magnum ever. To pay some extra bills, Magnum has succumbed to teaching a second-rate college course on how to be a P.I....uh-um, that's Private Investigator. Anyway, the class is full of bumbling yokels and they look to Magnum to help them solve a case by going on a series of "class field trips". My favorite student was Danny, the stoned surfer dude who drove the group around in his van.

It's terribly funny to watch the blind leading the blind, as Magnum tries one dead end after another, finds himself digging through trash, and gets pummeled in a seedy bar bathroom.

The cast of charaters are over-the-top goofballs who truly bring out the comical side of this otherwise dramatic series.

The grand finale "exposition" scene once again pokes fun at the series as a whole when the students start asking questions as to how the case was actually solved. (You know how most TV mysteries are always magically wrapped up in about 5 minutes.) Magnum himself can't even answer the questions, so T.C. and Rick must step in to "explain" what happened. But good luck understanding the details. Despite the sloppy wrap up (which I believe was done on purpose as a parody/joke), "Murder101" is still one of my faves. ...

Private Investigation 101
Magnum teaches a class about his line of work. A lady in the class thinks her fiance is cheating on her. He is only running out on his bank job. He has discovered some incriminating evidence there. Now his life is at stake. Magnum and his students try to help this couple. This show has a few twists and turns especially at the end. Watch for the bar scene. This is the funniest scene in any Magnum show. The locals can drink their weight in beer. One huge drunk in particular zeros in on Magnum's round buying. He proceeds to swill six or seven bottles of beer in succession. MCA should release all the Magnum, P.I. shows on either vhs or dvd.

A good episode with a confusing plot
A funny episode with great interplay between the main characters. However, the story is confusing about who's doing what and why. They try to "wrap" it up in the end but I was still confused. I wish they would release all of the two hour Magnum episodes. ... Read more

MAGNUM! There is a God! Needs to be DVD though
The Best series ever and yet no movie? Not many have seen the first episode. It's a bit strange after seeing the later ones, only because it was more serious, not as much comedy. There needs to be a push to wake Universal up ... this should have hit the silver screen Years ago! Make DVD's and a Movie!

Oh My God, Magnum !
This is the first episode of a tremendous series that dominated the 1980's starring Tom Selleck as Thomas Sullivan Magnum, an ex' naval officer turned private investigator. The beginning of this episode features the hillarious round one of an ongoing confrontation between Magnum and his frequent nemesis, Jonathan Quail Higgins, who is the major domo of the Robin Masters' estate in Hawaii. This episode artfully combines humor and drama to present an outstanding harbinger of the show that ran for eight years. Highly recommended.

Dont eat the snow in Hawaii
Magnum is my absolute favorite series and when you see the first episode you'll know why he and the cast were so popular and still are to many of us. I loved how he introduced us to who he was , where he came from.
we hear him say "Ive done funnier" rub his shoulder you see a bullet wound then flashbacks intro us to Rick as a gunner and TC as a pilot in Nam (Steve Kux was a real Nam pilot responsible for all those cool shots over the opening theme hard to get but hes great and did it)
It had funny moments"Dont look at the dogs work the lock , dont look at the.." then he looks(apollo and zeus(Higgins dobermans) coming toward him) "you looked at the dogs" he was hired to see if he could breach security including steal the Ferrari. Youll see early Magnum trademarks that slow building temper esp. when he went to confront a hardnose officer who didnt like him. "youre gonna lose those bars you spent 30 years eggsucking for" (Magnum growls)important cause you'll see that temper again and again when Magnum feels he was wronged. It became a trademark the slow burn warn tone then boom he was off..and on your case.
He had very memorable music "the brazilian " in Unfinished business" and Mama in "Death and Taxes" you gotta see those two too!
Nobody had a cast like them they got along great couldnt be better friends..highly reccommend it for people who love suspense this is it!! youll be hooked..Mahalo (Thanks!!)

I would recommend you to see this very first Magnum episod
Magnum PI is one of the best shows on TV ever, and I really enjoyed seeing this premier episode. If you have seen the later episodes, you can see the chemistry between the casts - they are great together. In this first episode, the characters are still very "unpolished", and you would probably have difficult to recognize the different characters if you just have seen episodes from the last seasons. For example, Rick is some kind of Bogart-look-a-like that has some kind of Casablanca-club in Honolulu...nothing like King Kamehamea Club at all. Higgins are pretty much the same, even if I miss his great stories in this 1,5 hours episode. However, this is a great production, and if you were interested in seeing a film about great adventures, Hawaii, Ferrari, Friendship, and the start of one of the most successful TV shows ever, I would recommend you to see this very first Magnum PI episode.

you've got to see this! I am a huge fan of the show, and this episode is definitely a classic. find out rick's real name, see the original scenes for the theme song, and learn about magnum's personality roots. I love this series, and enjoy this episode. it's not the best, but it will give you a deeper understanding of the show. thankfully they got a better theme song, and ditched the rings. the show only gets better... ...
