5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy's first TV episode - Hugely Enjoyable
My first time to see Nancy Drew (and more importantly, Pamela Sue Martin as Nancy Drew!) in about twenty years. And a real pleasure it was.
The story-line was, well, rather sweet and inoffensive (Nancy investigates - gasp - a haunted lighthouse) but since when has "sweet and inoffensive" been a crime? The performances were great (particularly Pamela Sue Martin, who makes a wonderfully assertive and confident heroine), the story held my interest more than I thought it would (particularly in the latter half when Nancy started to put things together and I found that I was being surprised by the well thought-out scripting) and the whole package was as entertaining as Rockford Files, or Harry O, or any other seventies 'tec show that we grew up with.
I would DEFINITELY recommend this to anyone who remembers the series with fondness, and would even feel confident that it would be good enough to entertain a friend who had never set eyes on the show before.

5-0 out of 5 stars A leader for modern independent women on tv.
LET ME START BY SAYING THAT THIS SHOW IS SOLID. The clothes are (hardly)not dated. It is still great to watch. I loved watching the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mystery hour. When I got this video I watched it not just once, but a few times. I loved taking a stroll back in time. I just want to know what happened to George's cousin, Nancy's other co-hort "in crime". I can't wait to get my next ND video.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Eerie thriller- fun for kids at Halloween
While out in a boat during a party, Nancy and friends spot a mysterious light coming from a supposedly abandoned lighthouse. The lighthouse is rumored to be haunted and Nancy, of course, has to investigate attracting the attention of a handsome "ghost-hunter" from California searching for lost pirate treasure. Another classic Nancy Drew and quite well made. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the three best episodes
A two-part episode, this is one of the best in the series. The special effects when the shuttle is diving for the clouds on the ice planet still wear well after all these years. When you consider that they were created for a seventies television show, it is even more incredible. A human scientist, Dr. Ravasholl, so engrossed in his research that he ignores the consequences, creates a super weapon for the Cylons that they are using to threaten the fugitive colonial fleet. The fleet has been carefully herded to a point where they can be threatened by the gun, so a small team is sent to the ice planet in an attempt to scale the mountain and destroy the gun. Unfortunately, most of the team members are criminals, chosen out of necessity for their experience in harsh environments.
Shot down on their way to the planet, the team crash lands, yet survives. In their trek to the mountain containing the weapon, the colonial team encounters a society made up of clones, the consequences of another project of Dr. Ravasholl, referred to as the father creator. The clones, fundamentally slaves to the Cylons, help the colonial group scale the mountain and successfully destroy the gun.
This episode also contains some of the best dialog that appeared in the series. Two of the human criminals in the assault team are husband and wife and her line, "To have Croft and myself in the same place at the same time invites disaster" is masterfully delivered. Even the turncoat Baltar is able to speak some decent lines rather than engage in repeating cliches about his hatred for Adama.
If all of the episodes had this level of episode specific special effects and quality dialog, then this series would have had a longer run. Unfortunately, the same effects were constantly repeated and the dialog was also recycled. Nevertheless, this is by far one of the best episodes, with some of the best of both.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Two-Parter
This is a great two-parter, packed with good action, humour, suspense and for the time on TV, great effects! This is space adventure that is suitable and enjoyable for all ages. Britt Ekland guest stars.

3-0 out of 5 stars complete the soldification of this episode?
very big words that make no sense. But I digress. This is one of those shows I liked as a kid and seem really bad as an adult. These 2 hours could have been spent on coming up with something much more original without the cylons.

3-0 out of 5 stars Galactica vs. Pulsar In Solid Meat-And-Potatos Actioner
The fifth story in Battlestar Galactica's TV run, Gun On Ice Planet Zero is an entertaining mix of the movies The Guns of Navarone, The Dirty Dozen, Ice Station Zebra, and Tobruk. The plot (involving an original story that was heavily rewritten) has some problems, but they don't really affect the episode's entertainment value, boosted once again by the superb primary cast of Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, and Herb Jefferson Jr., and here ably backed by guest stars Roy Thinnes (The Invaders), Christine Belford, veteran film heavy Richard Lynch, James Olsen (Andromeda Strain, Commando), Denny Miller, Britt Ekland, and Dan O'Herlihy (Fail Safe).

The Cylons have pincered the Fleet into a "safe" passage of space, orbiting near a small, ice-covered planetoid. The reason becomes clear when a patrol of Colonial vipers approaches the moon; it contains a pulse-energy laser cannon, covering the entire summit of a mountain, with pinpoint accuracy and the power to destroy any ship in one burst. The Cylon garrison commander, First Centurion Vulpa (distinguished by the golden hue of his armor, a trait found only in himself and other command Cylons), orders two vipers destroyed and a third captured. Starbuck and Boomer cannot save young cadet Cree from Cylon capture, and his overpowering guilt at the incident drives Starbuck to contrive to join a raiding force composed of ex-warriors jailed for a variety of malfeance. Leader of this group of gridrats is Croft (Thinnes), bitter over being jailed for stealing Cylon gold in a raid. He is aided by hulking "one-man task force" Wolfe (Lynch), Thane (Olsen), and Croft's estranged wife Leda (Belford); Leda has the best line of the show; "To have Croft and myself in the same place at the same time invites disaster."

The raiding party is shot down by Cylon raiders and barely succeeds in using a snowram (a personnel carrier mounted with lasergun) to blast one out of the sky; the sequence of the Cylon attack on the landing party is the highlight of Part One. But salvation arrives in the form of a race of clones, or Theta-class lifeforms, as one of the female clones (Britt Ekland plays the females, known as Tennas, while Denny Miller plays the heavily-bearded males, whose leader is known as Ser 5-9) pointedly says.

The Thetas were born of the same process that led to the creation of the Cylon laser cannon; they were created by a human scientist, Ravoshol (O'Herlihy), who works for the Cylons because they allow him to continue his experimentation. Most Thetas are now Cylon slaves, and when Apollo points this out in a heated exchange with Ravoshol, the scientist scoffs, until Apollo reveals that dissident Thetas have been bearing children. The scientist now realizes the wrongfulness of aiding the Cylon empire, and helps the Colonial raiding force.

But the ex-cons want out, and as they scale the mountain with the pulsar, they pull their guns on Apollo. Meanwhile, Starbuck bolts the main group to try and find Cree, certain that the Cylons still have him alive.

The race against time as the Cylons begin blasting away at space as the Galactica's fleet strives to escape the incoming base stars of Baltar is grippingly portrayed, and complete the solidification of this episode. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Someone know...
i would like to know where i can buy the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2:The Young Lords only in DVD ?

....but in PAL versione for Europe,

i think that is the best science fiction tv for me...

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best in the series
This is easily one of the best episodes of the series. Starbuck and Boomer are ambushed while on patrol and Starbuck is forced to make a crash landing on a planet occupied by the Cylons. It turns out that a human family still lives there and is fighting a guerilla war against the Cyclons. He aids them in achieving a victory, but that is not the high point of the story.

What has always fascinated me about this episode is the interaction between the human traitor Baltar and the two Cylon leaders, Lucifer and Spectre. The Cylons in this episode are portrayed as possessing traits clearly unbecoming machines. Spectre, the Cylon commander on the planet, submits false progress reports and Lucifer, the second-in-command to Baltar, is clearly jealous of that supposed success. One thing that the series lacked was a sense of the development of the Cylon characters, so that we can learn more about their origins and society. This episode at least begins that process. There is also enough shoot-em-up action to satisfy those with an interest in that direction.

I still enjoy this episode, having watched it many times. For years, it was the only one that I owned.

4-0 out of 5 stars fairly good
This isn't one of the few classics of BG episodes, but if they never got any worse than this, I'm sure the series would have survived. The interaction between Baltar and the head cylon -- I forget his name right now -- were funny and the story, though nothing fantastic, was entertaining enough. A good grade B episode.

3-0 out of 5 stars This One's Pretty Good!
More than any other, this is the "family episode" of Battlestar Galactica. So many children on screen at one time can be grating, and the plot is fairly cliche, yet there are many enjoyable parts.

Seeing the legion of Cylon Centurions inside the medieval castle is fascinating. Spectre is a very good, conniving villain, and Lucifer's reactions to his blatant lies to Baltar are hilarious. This kind of story runs the risk of being a little too "cute", but it is very enjoyable for any classic sci-fi fan. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lisa Eilbacher rules
The Hardy Boys-Nancy Drew, for people of my generation (25-30), is a sad nostalgia trip - sad because we were almost too young to remember the whole series in 1977-1979, and it ended so soon. It was well done - not necessarily the (dated) music permeating almost every episode, but the whole ambience of late '70's life. While Parker Stevenson fits the role of Frank Hardy well, and his acting is decent, I find Shaun Cassidy's less impressive (I realize many people buy these videos for Cassidy - if so, enjoy, he's here in abundance in every episode). The real unsung draw of several 1977 episodes, and especially this one, is Lisa Eilbacher as Callie Shaw - in my humble opinion the greatest of American actresses. This is early Eilbacher, and she easily out-acts everyone else. For a follow-up pairing Stevenson and Eilbacher, try to catch 1981's This House Possessed - almost a Hardy Boys movie, minus Cassidy.

3-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Hardy Boys episodes I've ever seen!
A good storyline which features alot of the characters from the storybook such as Chet Morton and Callie Shaw. Non-stop good action fun in this episode as they try to solve an unsolved mystery of creatures, screaming people and missing clues. Well acted for that era in the late 70's, but the new baby boomers will find it a drag since there's other shows now like the X-Files and so on. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the few episodes with fleshed out characters
This is one of the best episodes of the series, not because of the science fiction aspects, but because it is one of the few where the characters are fleshed out. Fred Astaire guest stars as an old scoundrel with many of the mannerisms of Starbuck and after testing, it turns out that he is in fact his father. It is great to see the elder Astaire in a character role, where he relies on dialog rather than body movements. Of all the episodes of BG, this one probably has the best dialog and Astaire is definitely one of the most interesting, entertaining characters that appeared in the series.
Unlike many of the other episodes, the plot is not a complete clone of a story that is already overdone. It has traces of originality and introduces a gambling ship, which helps to alleviate the overbearing goodness found in other episodes. I was a young adult when the series aired and loved all episodes, even the clunkers. This was one of my favorites back then and it still ranks very high, even though I have a basic attraction to stories with a great deal of space-like special effects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
This is one of the better episodes of Galactica. They useFred Astaire in a roll that is basically Starbuck as an old man. It'slight-hearted for the main part and one of the 6 or 7 episodes that holds up so many years later.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better ones
I think this one lived up to its potential. I hated this one as a kid; like it as an adult. Funny how your opinions and perceptions change from 13 to 33.

3-0 out of 5 stars Starbuck's Long Lost Father
It's nice to see Fred Astaire make a guest-appearance. This episode helps reveal some of Starbuck's background and begins to flesh out the character somewhat (Unfortunately, this never happened with most of the characters during the series' limited run).

The story of discovering Starbuck's father is a good one, and it's actually better than a number of other episodes, yet it still ranks as another episode that didn't measure up to the series' full potential.

Still, it's entertaining and watchable for any fan of sci-fi cult classics. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Starbuck Runs The Gamut In Long Patrol
The Long Patrol is the second-best of Battlestar Galactica's one part episodes (second only to The Hand Of God, curiously unreleased on tape or DVD), combining humor with action and some clever twists.

Dirk Benedict commands the role of Starbuck. His love triangle with Athena (Maren Jensen) and Cassiopeia (Laurette Spang) is captured in great fashion in an impromptu double date on the Rising Star during Act One. He is then summoned to the Galactica for a probe into the galaxy in a new recon viper, equipped with what Apollo (Richard Hatch) accurately described as "a voice-activated computer that can outfly anything the Cylons throw at you." This Computer, Oral Response Acitvated is also capable of driving pilots to madness, as Starbuck finds out in his banter with the machine.

In his probe, Starbuck finds a prison colony, forgotten for centuries, inhabited by the descendents of both the original prisoners and their guards - and in which he finds a wall painting of the homeworld of one prisoner, a homeworld that seems to be Earth. But when one prisoner (James Whitmore Jr.) steals his viper, it brings both Apollo and Boomer, but also a Cylon patrol, which attacks the prison colony.

Though humor permeates the episode (not only intentional in Starbuck's interplay with his girlfriends as well as CORA, but unintentional in the laughable Irish accents the prisoners and guards speak with), there is genuine tension, reaching its apex in one of the show's finest scenes - Starbuck finds that the cells are not locked, but the prisoners haven't the ability to free themselves because they feel it is their destiny to be prisoners.

CORA was partly inspired by Star Wars, and also by real life US Air Force experiments with similar voice-acivated computers. This angle raises some questions - are other vipers equipped with CORA systems? (Presumably) But more important, if a computer can outfly anything (though Starbuck helps talk CORA into outmaneuvering the Cylons), why can't the computerized Cylons outfight the humans? (As it is, this may have been a point Glen Larson hoped would rub off on Standards & Practices at ABC, with whom he was clashing.)

In any event, the episode stands as one of the show's best.

5-0 out of 5 stars hey
C.O.R.A. is the computer from hell and Starbuck is in for the ride of his life. Funny, action-packed and provocative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite Good
I really enjoyed this episode. I remembered it as one of the good ones from the series and bought it at a video store. This one is not the standard one where the cylons attack at the start of the show, then the Galacticans must either get more food or put out the fire or whatever. This one had a little more intelligence going for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The reviewer below me in right on
Everything the reviewer below said is true. This is indeed on of Galactica's best. It has a speculative element: what if people were imprisoned for crimes perpetrated by their ancestors? It has an interesting shoot-out on land, a good one in space. It has humor, most importantly, which BG did not do often, but when it did, as in this episode or in The Magnificent Warriors, it was a great show. If only there were about a dozen more like The Long Patrol. Fans of BG say that a lot, I think....If only....

5-0 out of 5 stars One Of Battlestar Galactica's Best!
Many of Battlestar Galactica's episodes did not live up to their potential, but this is definitely one of the exceptions. Starbuck's romantic outings with Cassieopia and Athena are fun and hilarious. His interactions with the flirtatious female computer named C.O.R.A. are also very entertaining. A very good episode. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A good solid performance in it's time!
A nicely done show with Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson playing the trio of Joe and Frank Hardy searching for their kidnapped father in Mexico. Former "Dynasty" actress Kimberly Beck does fairly good in her guest starring role(She also dated Shaun Cassidy in real life). A great show for it's second season!A true mystery.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid episode. It can still hold it's own

5-0 out of 5 stars Frank and Joe on Safari
Frank and Joe did a lot of traveling during the second season of The Hardy Boys, and this episode finds them in Kenya. Someone is poaching, and a local official (a member of the Masai tribe and one of the many old friends of Fenton Hardy who the boys run into during the series) is convinced the culprit is Trevor Masters, an old-style "white hunter" who now leads camera safaris. Frank and Joe join the safari and stay at Masters' house, where Frank romances Sarah Masters, played by Anne Lockhart. The clues accumulate slowly, and the boys are handicapped in their search by the long-held animosities and alliances among the local community. Not everyone is as they seem, and Frank and Joe must bring some personal mysteries to light before they can figure out who is slaughtering animals.

Shaun doesn't sing in this episode, but there is an interesting scene of him doing a drum dance with the male star of a group of native performers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best
This is not a bad episode, but as I said, not one of the more outstanding ones either. If falls sort of to the right of middle-of-the-road. It relies more on personal conflict and tension rather than fast-paced action for interest, so those of you hoping for gleaming knives and ruthless killers, this is not your best choice. Some of its more outstanding qualities are witty dialogue, and of course the inevitable romantic interest, which was better done in this one than in some others I've seen. And yes, there is a scene in which the boys get shot at. Overall, this show lacks a little spice, but if you're the kind who likes it mild go for it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy Drew Should Be on DVD!
Nancy Drew was one of my favorite TV shows in the 70's, based on the mystery books for young readers by Carolyn Keene it is about a teenager named Nancy Drew who has a knack for solving mysteries and crimes and stars Pamela Sue Martin (Dynasty) as Nancy. The Secret of the Whispering Walls is my favorite episode and is about Nancy's two elderly aunts who live in an old mansion where some strange events are happening and Nancy with the help of her friends Ned and George investigates. I would love to see this and all of the Nancy Drew episodes put out on DVD especially in a boxset!

4-0 out of 5 stars Groovy Nancy
In 1977, Nancy Drew donned her double-knit pantsuit and set out with her friends George Fayne and Ned Nickerson to solve her very first mystery on television. Millions of girls sat spell-bound in front of their television sets, anxiously waiting to see if Nancy could solve the puzzling incidents in her hometown, River Heights USA.
The Nancy Drew Mysteries television show of the 1970s was saturated in cultural influences. Nancy danced to disco, drove a groovy blue sports car and even teamed up with the Hardy Boys (wearing their leisure suits) to bust crime the 70s way.
Her glamourous adventures included posing as a world-famous professional tennis player, solving mysteries aboard cruise ships and overthrowing counterfeit gangs.
What adventure! What romance! What intrigue!
In this episode, Nancy stays at an old southern mansion complete with hidden passages, cranky neighbors and voices in the walls.
"Secret of the Whispering Walls" is extrememly reminiscent of The Secret of Red Gate Farm, one of the original Nancy Drew Mystery Stories. You might even call it a combination of Red Gate Farm and The Hidden Staircase.
George is a little out of character; she's too much of a fraidy-cat when it comes to investigating.
Despite it's shortcomings, this episode is one of my favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars FOR HUGE DREW/HARDYS FANS, BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

very watchable in this episode Nancy (Pamela Sue Martin) sees a car go off the road into a ditch from a glider she is flying, but when the police don't find a car Nancy with the help of George and Ned (Jean Rasey, George O'Hanlon) investigate and find them self's in trouble with a stolen car ring ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I spell fun H-A-R-D-Y B-O-Y-S
I am giving this review four stars because my only caveat is that you never get to hear a full Shaun Cassidy song. You hear enough to tease you into buying whatever album of his was hot in the seventies, but not the whole thing. This show is as much fun as Scooby Doo (and that's a compliment). Both Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy displayed a laid back, easy pairing that transcended the not-so-challenging scripts. They are just fun to watch, and when you get to hear some of that great bubble gum pop Shaun sang so well, you have a show that shines as bright as that lava lamp collecting dust in your attic. Do I like this show? I da doo run run.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Trip Down Memory Lane!
I enjoyed being able to see Shaun Cassidy sing again. It brought back precious memories. The Hardy Boys was my favorite show as a child. It's sometimes hard to believe that over 20 years have passed since that time. If you like Shaun's singing, this is the video for you! It has different songs, including Da Doo Ron Ron, That's Rock 'N Roll, and Holiday (which I had forgotten about and hadn't heard since I was a child). It's a great video for Cassidy fans everywhere!

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for Shaun Cassidy fans!
If you've seen the 70's series, you know that they all look pretty cheesy in the light of a 90's day. But if you love cheese, and you love Shaun Cassidy, this one is a must-have, because it's one of the handful of episodes in which Shaun sings! This one features "Da Doo Ron Ron", "That's Rock and Roll", as well as chunks of "Holiday" and "Wanna Be With You". I take off one star just because of the over-all cheese factor. Otherwise, it's a keeper! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best
I have 4 Nancy Drew movies. I think this was like 3rd or 4th one I watched and It's one of my favs. It has a great plot. You'd never guess who the culprit was. I thought it was someone else. I was wrong. Great twist at the end!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better Nancy Drew episodes
It's too bad there aren't more of these. You have to like the title, as the Nancy Drew book series has always been written by a succession of ghostwriters. Pamela Sue Martin is great as Nancy: she does a good job of being inquisitive and persistent without being irritating, and she handles annoying characters with finesse. When the mystery author she is accompanying on a cruise gets cryptic death threats, nothing can be proven so of course it's up to Nancy to solve the case. They do a nice job of making it spooky, like when Nancy and the author are walking the deck at night through fog, searching for the source of an eerie, echoing voice. At another point, the ship is threatened by a tidal wave. With Pamela having done "Poseidon Adventure," the director must have had to resist an impulse to have her look at the camera and say, "Not again." I also like how they keep you guessing who the culprit is from among their shipmates, unlike some other episodes where the audience knows what's going on before Nancy figures it out. It's fun to relive the days when, for a very short time, creepy-but-innocent entertainment featured not an older gal like Angela Lansbury, but a beautiful young woman.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Love Boat was never this Dangerous
Ever Sunday night I would rush home to watch the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries. Parker Stevenson and shaun Cassidy were the Hardys,Pamela Su Martin protrayed our favorite girl Detecive Nancy. This video "Nancy Drew and the Ghostwriter's Cruise" is the best in the series. Nancy and her friend George are traveling with world famous mystery writer John Addams and his niece Cathy aboard a cruise ship Nancy soon discover this trip is not going to be all fun in the sun.Te writer soon becomes the victim of several attempts on his life. Someone wants Mr. Addams to live at his first novel and rewrite the ending so there is no sequel.I alwayed enjoyed reading the Nancy Drew books and the television series was able to bring life to this exciting and intelligent detevice character. Pamela Sue Martin is great in the role and the supporting cast are also wondeful. Buy this tape and you will not regrat it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Spooky

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for Rick Nelson Fans! Great concert footage!
This video is rated 5 stars not just for the show itself, which isn't bad, but for the fact that Rick Nelson sings about 8 songs in it. Real concert footage of Rick before a real crowd is used. Unlike his contemporary Elvis Presley, it is hard to find concert footage of Rick Nelson. In this show Rick plays rocker Tony Eagle. The Hardy Boys foil a plot against his life. Ironically the villan tries to cause Tony Eagle's plane to crash. The Hardy Boys prevent Tony's plane from taking off. Would that someone could have done the same in real life. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars hardy boys in egypt
although shaun does not sing in this video, it is still pretty good. you find yourself saying to yourself don't do that guys! it really draws you in.

5-0 out of 5 stars King Tut's Tomb - Frank and Joe in Egypt
When Frank succeeds in recapturing a purse snatched in an Egyptian bazaar, he is mystified when the owner, a lovely American girl, refuses to take it back. Instead, she pushes the key to her hotel room into his hands and asks him to meet her there later. When he and Joe open the purse they find what appears to be a priceless artifact, which has almost certainly been stolen. That evening at the hotel, they don't find the purse's owner, they find the street urchin who'd stolen the purse (who escapes again), and then the police - who confiscate their passports.

This is a great mystery, and contains some highly unusual moments for the Hardy Boys. Frank and Joe don't usually deliberately intimidate pretty girls in their hotel rooms. Would Frank *really* bash all Helene's teeth out? Is Joe's inspired rant about how much he hates Texas just an act? And Parker sings!

This is also the episode in which the boys compare themselves to Redford and Newman in "The Sting" - which is an amusing sequence.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Hardy Boys in Egypt...What could be better?
As a "Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" fan, I found this video to be a real treat! It features the Hardy Boys in an exotic, mystery filled location and throws in some 1970's disco to boot! I especially enjoyed the inclusion of the original intro to the program followed by the announcement "Tonight on the Hardy Boys.." This video is great for those who love 1970's nostalgia. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Something of a yawner, unless you like Apollo
Let's face it, the character of Apollo, as written, is too stilted and goody-goody to be of much interest to the general public. This episode doesn't help matters much, placing Apollo (conveniently out of fuel, with no wingmates, tracking, or support vessels) on a planet run by a third-rate slimebag and a malfunctioning Cylon. Naturally, a somewhat useless female and her son need Apollo to defend them. This entire episode is basically a vehicle to show what a nice guy Apollo is, a point that needs no further pounding into BG fans' skulls. "Inept" is the operative word here.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was very disappointed with this one. At the start of the series, they go and rip off a western story that has been done countless times before. They should have been trying to establish something unique at this point, trying to prove they were original. Instead, they did the opposite.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cast Pulls Off Episode Despite Cliched Script
Battlestar Galactica's The Lost Warrior is one of the most notorious episodes in sci-fi history, an episode most easily cited as an example of inferior sci-fi writing. I think what makes the episode so maddening to fans is that Richard Hatch, Lance LeGault, and the rest of the cast pull it off with superlative performances under excellent direction by Rod Holcolm.

Purused by Cylon raiders, Apollo must lure them as far away from the Galactica as he can - this answers the question often posed of why he strays so far from the Fleet. He lands on a planet that is populated only by a small town and some scattered farmers, all under the boot of landowner LaCerta and his gunman, a damaged Cylon centurion named Red Eye (for the centurion's crimson eye scanner). Apollo believes Red Eye is part of a larger Cylon garrison nearby and thus refuses repeated pleas that he defeat the Cylon, until he learns that Red Eye was the sole survivor of a crashed Cylon raider.

The episode's subplot revolves around Starbuck and Boomer, who both want to go find Apollo and also keep his adopted son Boxey (Noah Hathaway) from learning the truth about his dad's disappearence. "Boxey's lost one parent," Starbuck pointedly says (referring to the death of Serina in Lost Planet Of The Gods), "and he's not going to lose two." Though at times sappily handled (Cassiopeia throws a petulant tantrum when she finds Boxey playing cards with the other warriors) this subplot is superb.

Warts and all, this is an entertaining episode.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Battlestar Galactica version of "Shane"
This is a story of the old west, uh, I mean outer space. Apollo runs out of fuel (Why he would be dumb enough to fly so far out as to run out of fuel is never explained) and lands on a planet where a Cylon named "Red Eye" is terrorizing an old shanty town. He eventually has a duel with Red Eye and you probably can guess who wins.

This episode is enjoyable, but the story is too much of a cliche. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Er, not good
I was 12 when this series orignally came out. Now, twenty years later, the episode that used to be my favorite, "The Living Legend," is obviously, well, underwhelming. The editing of the Fire in Space footage was horrible, just an excuse to extend this "movie" by another 20 or 30 minutes. There was really no speculative element to this movie at all, which was the problem with most of the BG episodes. It was just another simple-minded shoot-em-up, an excuse to replay their fx another dozen or so times each. Now that I'm not a kid anymore, I realize the episodes I used to like the least are in fact the best -- episodes like War of the Gods and The Long Patrol where the cylons were not really involved and there were some provocative, speculative ideas. It figures now that I'd really like to see War of the Gods, it's unavailable on video. Oh well. Also: why in the world were the sound effects for the cylon ships moving through space changed?

3-0 out of 5 stars The Living legend on VHS...sort of
I must agree with most the other reviews that this was a somewhat poorly reedited version of Living Legend and Fire In Space, and, if you noticed, a few minutes of footage from the pilot ( Baltar's mine field sequence was originally from the Carillon mine field from the pilot and the movie) However, when this was released in Europe, about the same time the movie version of the pilot was released here, European TV viewers hadn't seen The Living Legend or the Fire In Space episodes yet. The storyline followed Living Legend more than Fire In Space and the two stories were pretty well edited together, in fact some of the earlier scenes were appeard more logically then those in the episode version of Living Legend. The ending scene was however, poorly done, Originally, Sheba was on a gurney talking to the others(injured in The Living Legend, but not in this movie), instead it was Adama( from Fire In Space) , and the dialogue was cut from both episodes and then a hasty voice over by the late Lorne Greene. Would still like to have this on DVD as with the other episodes with trailers and whatever else. For right now, this is the only way to get most of Living Legend on video but hopefully soon Universal and.or Columbia House will release ALL of them on DVD.

5-0 out of 5 stars By your command!
This was a great movie. It brought back all the great times when me and my cousins would all gather around the tv and watch battlestar galactica..It a must for the fan!

1-0 out of 5 stars What an atrocity!
This is the WORST Battlestar Galactica video out there! They took two of the best episodes of the series and mashing them together to try to make a movie out of it but instead succeeded in creating a confusing mishmosh of the episodes. Oh, and to a previous reviewer that noted that Adama wasn't injured in "The Living Legend", you are right. But he WAS injured in "Fire in Space" - guess Universal thought the scene was good enough to throw in just for some angst.
DON'T BUY THIS VIDEO! IT'S AN INSULT TO "GALACTICA" FANS!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad -- but ...
...the television version of the "Living Legend" was much better. I admit to buying this video strictly for that aspect of this haphazardly spliced-together film. ("Fire In Space" episode by itself is okay too). Okay, to the plot (for the non-BSG familiar). Lorne Greene leads an aircraft-carrier sized spacecraft (the Battlestar Galactica), with 200-some odd civilian craft in tow, in search of the mythical planet Earth after their colonies were destroyed by a relentless cybernetic race called the Cylons. During a recon mission, two of his patrol craft accidentally run into a patrol from another battlestar whose legendary commander (Lloyd Bridges) they thought perished years ago. The two commanders reunite, but quickly realize they have differences on how to proceed. Commander Adama (Greene) wants only fuel to get his fleet underway while Commander Cain (Bridges) wants to put the smackdown on the Cylons by any means necessary. Interesting plot and outstanding special effects (although some are blatantly rehashed AND stolen from the movie "The Towering Inferno". Good supporting cast too, including Richard Hatch (Capt. Apollo), Dirk Benedict (Lt. Starbuck), Terry Carter (Col. Tigh), Anne Lockhart (Lt. Sheba) and the late (but enjoyably oily) John Colicos as the traitor Baltar. Bottom line -- good escapist entertainment. I've loved the BSG series since I was a kid and the "Living Legend" was the best of the lot. I've heard rumors of resurrecting the series as a movie, miniseries and even an IMAX movie. (Whatever it takes, folks, just do it!) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
I have most of the Nancy Drew videos and I think this one is my favorite! When the hosts of a benefit carnival are robbed of their jewels, Nancy sets out to try to get a job at the carnival to find out if any of the carnival workers are the thieves. As usual, she soon finds herself in danger. To complete your Nancy Drew video collection, this one is a must have!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries belong on DVD!
Here is another intelligent show that brings back a ton of fond memories! This episode, "Wipe Out", and ALL the other episodes of the "Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries" starring Shaun Cassidy, Parker Stevenson, and Pamela Sue Martin/Janet Johnson, belong on DVD! Shaun and Parker as Joe and Frank Hardy brought humor and warmth to their brotherly roles; and the intrepid Nancy Drew was fiercely independent and a perfect role model for young women. Of course this version of the "Hardy Boys" was enhanced by Shaun's singing - and "Wipe Out" featured him singing not his own tunes but the music of "The Beach Boys". This series also featured a memorable ensemble of guest stars including the late Rick Nelson ("The Flickering Torch Mystery" with great concert footage), Lorne Green, Patrick MacNee, Melanie Griffith, Paul Williams, Ray Milland, Valerie Bertinelli, Maren Jensen, Anne Lockhart, and a host of others. And let's not forget Edmund Gilbert who, in my mind, will always be "Fenton Hardy". Today's young tv viewers (and the rest of us, too!) need to get re-acquainted with Nancy, Frank, and Joe! Let's see this complete series on DVD SOON!

4-0 out of 5 stars This Show Should Have Complete Season DVD Boxsets!
The Hardy Boys was one of my favorite TV shows in the 70's and as a young girl ages 12 to 14 I had a big crush on Shaun Cassidy, I had his record albums, posters a T-shirt, etc. The Hardy Boys TV show is based on the young readers Mystery books by Franklin W. Dixon and stars Shaun Cassidy and Parker Stevenson as brothers Joe and Frank Hardy who solve mysteries and crimes and was a very entertaining show. I would like to see this episode and all of the rest on DVD in complete season DVD boxsets!

4-0 out of 5 stars Hardy Boys in WIPE OUT
I was one of those girls who just LOVED Shaun Cassidy, I even had a Hardy Boys t-shirt in grade 3. Now after years of waiting to see these shows again, I was suprised that besides having cute guys, the show did have a good story line. And yes Shaun does sing, although I thought he sounded better when I was 7. Anyway this is a good one, It will bring back some of those childhood warm fuzzy feelings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dreamboat Shaun Cassidy shines in beach caper!
This is one of the coolest Hardy Boys episodes because Shaun SINGS! He performs "Surfin' U.S.A." on the beach for Frank & their Hawaii pals on location. A must-have for any Shaun Cassidy fan. No love scenes, though - darn! ... Read more
