4-0 out of 5 stars An action sci-fi classic
In a post-apocolyptic wasteland future ruled by a super computer, people live in scattered towns lead lives of poverty. The only chance for a better life is to become a trooper and then to complete enough missions, and kill enough enemies-both those from neighboring towns and members of a shadowy resistance group-to earn enough credits to become citizens, and thus be allowed to move to the fabled city, where a supposed life of luxury awaits. This anime features cool action scenes and futuristic devices, as well as an intriging commentary on classes and the dehumanizing process of war, and the relasionship that develops between the title charecter and Nova, the female lead. The only thing keeping this from getting five stars is a cop-out ending. But see it for yourself. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Urusei Yatsura
I saw this movie when I was about 13 years old and from then on I was a fan, This movie is a great film. The art work is devine and the characters are just many to love. Once I finished this movie I was determined to find all other movies and television series. I know this Review isn't much but what can I say....It is an Excelent movie and I loved it! That's all

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing!!
This is one of the best anime movies I have ever seen. Period. It is an excellent climax for the whole series in general as Ataru and Lum finally have to come out of their own stubborn pride and admit that they love each other or lose one another forever.
The last 20 minutes of the movie make you stay to your seat and scream from emotion at the painfully suspense-filled ending.
It is best if you have some idea of how the series work to get the most of it, but even if you don't, it will leave you craving for more Urusei Yatsura.
As for fans, it is the culmination of the series as a whole. Although Ranma 1/2 suffered from the same ending feeling, it is what makes the story endless.

4-0 out of 5 stars The movie to see for those pro Urusei!!!
In one of the best movies in the Urusei series (Number one coming a close second) Lum and Ataru's relationship faces one of, if not the most difficult bridges they have ever crossed. Due to a age old promise and a misunderstanding Lum finally leaves Ataru, but fate seems to have other plans. A global disaster places the fate of earth in Lum's hands, but she will only help on one condition. Tired of Ataru's womanizing nature and unsure of his feelings tward her she demands a second tag race where all Ataru has to do to win is say "I love you". Unfortunatly as time drags on things become more and more heated and more than the sake of the planet is eventually put on the line. This movie best sum's up Urusei series in my opinion, with all it's comedy, drama, and putting the characters feelings up front. The most emotionally moving of all he Urusei movies in my opinoin, period. I highly recomend it for any fan and even those that have never seen the series ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Proof that anime is capable of depicting ANY genre
People assume that anime is only sci-fi or action-oriented. Not so.

They Were 11 (my favorite anime flick) is proof positive that anime can be character driven within the mystery genre. Buy this film!

5-0 out of 5 stars A shoujo mystery
This movie is based off of manga by Hagio Moto. The final part of the elite Cosmo Academy requires ten cadets who have never seen or met one another to survive as a team for 53 days on a space craft. So trust and teamwork are a very imporant part of the exam. However, problems start to arise when the group discovers that they have eleven members on their team and that somebody is purposely sabotagin things. But who is it? And why are they doing it? The question then becomes can they survive as a team for 53 days when they don't trust one another.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gripping suspense.
This is in many ways a classic "who dunnit," and most of the pleasure of this movie is in discovering everyone's secrets, most especially the identity of the mysterious "number 11." The movie is quite involved with a complex, but not overly confusing, plot and surprisingly well developed characters. The pace is well chosen, frenetic when necessary and yet quite thoughtful when appropriate. My only concern was a few blatant translation errors. Two characters are referred to as "Hermaphrodites" because they have not become either sex yet. The proper term is "Androgonite." Similarly, one of the characters calls himself a "cyborg," despite having no technological parts whatsoever. Other than that, "They Were 11" is a very solid film with consistently clean and fluid animation. Even the voices are well chosen for the parts, and the dubbing is very high quality.

A constant problem with these kinds of movies is that in theory, the "odd man out" could be anyone, you can generally eliminate everyone from suspicion except for one or two people within the first ten minutes. While I was able to quickly dismiss several of the characters, I was genuinely in the dark until the final revelation. While I did find the end somewhat trite, with everyone getting a happy ending, I still enjoyed the movie immensely.

The largest flaw in the movie was the characterization of Frol. I can see where the director was trying to create a highly contradictory character to prepare for the revelation about her true nature, but to me the character just came off as aggressive and naïve, almost stupid. Some of the other characters were also weak (you have to wonder how people with such passive personalies can make it into such an exclusive university) but in general, I enjoyed the diversity of the characters. The characters greatly add to the replay value of the movie, which is also unusual for a mystery.

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked it
I saw it with my friends... It was COOL. Maybe not good for anybody under 12, because they wouldn't understand the plot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Me and my friend Chris think this movie is the best anime.
This movie is an action/mystery/space/love story with a lot of interesting charecters, And you really get into it. There is little swearing, and half a second of nudity, which doesn't show anything but somebodies backside. I would recomend this movie. The ending is a surprise, And there is Cool Plot Twists. ...
