4-0 out of 5 stars Defined 80's/ Teen Angst
This movie pretty much solitifies the saying nice guys finish last as in Gary's story. Gary is the typical nice guy with the best friend who gets all the girls. Sounds like high school. The film is very entertaining about three horny high school guys trying to get action. Gary the nice sucker for romance who falls for the new girl in school Karen. But womanizer popular Rick gets a hold of her first and of course the fat kid who gets Rick's left over girls. Basically Gary does everything to try and win the affections of her and helps her out but she ends up going back to the sleezy Rick in the end. I remeber watching this movie as a kid loving the music great soundtrack. Entertaining, humorous, & defining movie of the 80's pre John Hughes teen angst film I recommend seeing at least once. One of my favorite 80's movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Last Great Movie
"The Last American Virgin" has to be the best movie ever made. Lawrence Monoson, became "Gary", and captured the hearts of many. This movie will make you laugh, as well as it will make you cry. This movie brings to life issues of your typical teenager, from sex, to drugs, to yes even abortion. Every boy dreams of the day he loses his virginity...not "Gary". He just dreams of the beautiful new girl in town. Shhhh, have I said too much, probably not, this movie being 20 yrs. old I can not imagine who hasn't seen it. If you haven't you should not waste anymore time...this is the best movie my generation has ever seen.

WOW, I almost forgot to mention the awesome soundtrack this movie has...from "The Commodores - Oh No" to "Blondie" to "The Human League" to "The Cars" and who could ever forget the unforgettable theme song...."Quincy Jones - Just Once".
I hope this review is helpful....enjoy this movie, when I finally got my hands on a very good copy, I watched it repeatedly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Memorable Teen Comedy/Drama...
This film predates the recent flood of brainless teen comedies by almost twenty years, yet it remains one of the best examples of the genre.
The film relates the story of three friends embarking on a quest to get laid. Along the way, Gary (Lawrence Monoson), falls in love with a pretty new student, Karen (Diane Franklin). Unfortunately, Gary's affections are not returned and to further complicate matters Karen begins dating Gary's best friend, a shallow and macho womanizer. When Karen gets pregnant, Gary comes to the rescue hoping to win Karen's heart.
What separates this film from the other teen comedies is substance. The film alternates between hilarious comedy and emotional drama in the last thirty minutes making for a truly unique film. The comedy bits are very memorable including a rendez vous with a nymphomaniac, salsa dancing latina and Gary's encounter with an overweight young lady whose bra will just not co-operate. Unlike many comparable films the acting is top notch also, Monoson and Franklin are terrific in particular. Interestingly enough both would work in the horror genre, Monoson in the forgettable Friday The 13th IV: the Final Chapter and Franklin in Amityville II: The Possession. The film is fueled by a great eighties soundtrack featuring diverse artists like Tommy Tutone, U2, Devo and REO Speedwagon.
Though the DVD is very bare bones, the picture quality is fantastic and the audio is acceptable too. A theatrical trailer is included.

Based on an Israeli film I have never heard of, The Last American Virgin is highly recommended to those searching for a good, raunchy laugh.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a good movie, but worth watching!
I remember being a kid in the 80's and knowing that this movie was coming on late on HBO or some cable channel, me and my little sis would get excited! We loved it at the time. It was on the other night on HBO again, and now being an adult, I realize how lame the whole movie really is. BUT, it brought back so many memories and that's always a great feeling. I also think that the soundtrack is awesome, especially The Cars 'Since your gone'!

5-0 out of 5 stars They don't get any better than this!
Salsa was a wonderful movie! It was a combination of my two favorite things: Spanish dancing and the eighties! I really enjoyed the scene in which the main character was doing a dance choreographed to the background of an auto repair shop! You might as well call him the Spanish Michael Flatley, because he is definitely Lord of the Dance!

4-0 out of 5 stars Vamos a Bailar!
Personally I think this is the best movie ever made for dancing too. I remember the first time I saw this when I was 7 and me and my sister would try to learn the dance moves. I remember that I watched it so much that one day the tape busted. I was so mad at myself for a long time knowing that they would never play it on tv again. 10 years passed and there was this new thing of searching for videos online and thanks to the internet I was lucky to find a copy of this once in a lifetime movie. The movie is great and the actors are HOT!! Even thought the cutest one Kenny (Rodney Harvey) is dead now its still nice to see how gorgeous he was in the movie. I recommend that whoever wants to go back and listen to some hot music to watch SALSA a so called Dirty Dancing for Hispanics or Latinos!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Dont buy this movie for the acting; buy it for the dancing!
With a title like "Salsa," you can know what to expect from this movie, and this movie does not disappoint. A young love story, a love quadrangle, and a salsa contest are all plot points to get us to the next dance scene. Fortunately we don't have to wait long between drama interludes to get to all the fun and what this movie is all about! Don't buy this movie for the acting; buy it for the dancing!
Of course, this movie was made in the 80's so you'll see all the trappings of this decade woven through the movie. One could watch this movie as an 80's study. This isn't a detractor, however, from this great dance flick. You'll see bits of 80's specific dancing, 80's style salsa, salsa that transcends decades, "New York" style Salsa, "street" salsa, solo dance numbers, group "line" salsa, and multiple partner switching. Lots of the dancing is timeless and stuff you can incorporate today!
One of the features of this movie is the music performances done by multiple artists of the period. The most notable of them being one each from the amazing, late Celia Cruz and the amazing, late Tito Puente. They music performances are the backdrop for much of the dancing.
As with all forms of dance, there is snobbery as to how to dance "real" salsa. This is even addressed at one point in the movie when Rico, with his more "street" style and the club owner La Luna, with her more polished "New York" style tell each other that they're not sure if what the other is dancing is "real" salsa. Ha ha! The snobbery in dance is ever living!
You will recognise the club owner in the movie as the same actress in the movie Dirty Dancing who tried to steal patrick Swayzee's character from Jennifer Gray's. She is reprising a similar role here. Once again, though, don't get this movie for the acting/plot/drama; buy it for the dancing!
[Note One] the acting here isn't terrible and is certainly bearable, it's just not as high quality as that in Dirty Dancing which has a better plot and acting but is not as good in the dance scenes.
[Note Two] this movie has minimal Spanish; it is 95% in English. Most of the Spanish words are the basic ones we all learned from Sesame Street when we were kids.

2-0 out of 5 stars The Robby Rosa Movie with Some Salsa
The story is about a young man of Puerto Rican descent named Rico, his high school-aged sister and widowed mother. Rico needs to sweep everybody off the floor of the La Luna Club in order to win a chance to go to Puerto Rico to compete for the "King of Salsa" title. Along the way he faces some challenges with family, friends, dance partners, and love interests.

Like the series of movies made with Elvis, Salsa is a movie that presents many contrived excuses to have the main character dance.(Speaking of Elvis, his non-salsa hit "Blue Suede Shoes" also is in the movie) The high points are cameos by Salsa legends like Celia Cruz and Tito Puente among others, who provide a chance to view and listen to pre-1988 salsa tunes by their original artists. There are non-salsa songs plus a lot of free-style dancing. The acting, plot, filming, etc. should have been much better. Instead of a cinematic masterpiece, this is a 1980's dance movie, but that's what you expected from the title.

However, Robby Rosa, who plays "Rico" often jumps from salsa to his own free-style dance, much to the dismay of one of his dance partners in the film and fans who watch the movie expecting to see good salsa dancing from the main character.-and this movie centers around "Rico".

Two scenes were particularly upseting. (1)The opening of the film has Rico and his male co-workers provocatively dancing with each-other. A female dancer appears briefly but she quickly vanishes, as the men get along. At this point we almost thought we had mistakenly gotten a gay-male movie instead of a dance movie (2) Rico's shower scene and naked tush later in the film also were not keeping with the title/theme of the movie.

The title should be "Robby Rosa as Rico and Some Salsa Dancing" rather than "Salsa"

3-0 out of 5 stars so oldies
well, it was a good idea for dancing and such, but i was rather bored with the older characters...good music though! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest films of all time..............
They didn't want this movie to be funny, well, THAT funny anyways. It was hilarious. Stupid. Bad acting. Terrible plot. The works. It was downright foolish. But, it was still hilarious.

I'll give you a little insight on what you're getting into. A little monkey befriends a little kid. Only the monkey, no doubt portrayed by a midget in a costume, talks. That's right, he talks. The end of the film is simply pee-your-pants hilarious when the monkey flies off a dock and jumps onto the boys boat, all the while yelling the kids name and screaming: "Biiiiiiilly!"

A downright pee-on-yourself film fest. Enjoy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad, bad, bad....
Yet another hospital slasher I got to see if it would be anything like "Halloween 2". The other had been "Visiting Hours", which sucked, but looks like Citizen Kane compared to this. "Hospitl Massacre" opens up with a pathetic flash-back scene, that is soppoused to take place in 1961, but everything looks exactly as if it were 1981. It's valentines day, and a boy and girl are playing with a train. All the while, another boy is watching them through a window. He has a thing for the girl, and leaves a valentine for her. She finds it, and the two kids start giggling when they see who signed it. The girl goes in the kitchen for a piece of cake, goes back in the living room, and finds her little boy-freind dead. Ten years later in 1981, and the little girl is grown up, played by Barbi Benton. She goes to the hospital for a check-up or something, and yadda, yadda, yadda, she had trouble getting out, and a killer's on the loose inside. I admit im not fully qulaified to write this review, becuase I never even finished watching it, becuase it was so bad. I wouldin't reccomend it, but for the fellows out there, there is about an hour long "examination" scene, in which Barbi Benton is fully undressed, and is told by a doctor to "breathe in, breathe out". A complete waste of time. ... Read more

Oh, so very bad. Not "good" bad, but rather "bad" bad. There's no accounting for taste, though, so I will say that if you really liked "Battlefield Earth" it's worth giving this a shot.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cyborg Born, Cyborg Bred, And Cyborg Dead.
In the not so distant future, humanity is challenged by it's own totalitarian tendencies. Evil is present in the form of a ruthless government not concerned with the well-being of the people, but in maintaining their power. To achieve this aim, they have developed a breed of cyborgs to maintain order at any cost and squash the underground resistance. The Resistance has developed an embryo that can perhaps match the strength and intelligence of these cyborgs, but it's up to a woman, Mary, and a man with a mysterious past, Austin, to ensure that this hope for the future is safe from a cyborg that stalks their every step as they move from one Resistance laboratory to another. Watch as Austin discovers his dark secret and must move toward a self-realization, and new vision of humanity.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Classic
I am a big fan of Michael Pare, as well of biker movies. This movie combines almost all of the qualities that make a good sci-fi adventure movie a classic. I has a likeable hero, two love-to-hate villians, and an enjoyable, developed plot all the way through. Unfortunatley, where this film lacks is in teh musical score. The same annoying song is used over and over again, and oftentimes the music doesn't really seem to fit the action. This film might actually be made better with no music at all, such is the extent to which the music ruins the movie, depriving it of a deserved five-star rating.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS MOVIE BLOWS!!!!!!!!
If you love horrible special effects and bad acting that ISN'T humorous, then this movie is for you. Also, this movie is for those who don't want to be surprised. I had everything figured out about 10 minutes before it happened. In a nutshell: THIS MOVIE BLOWS!

2-0 out of 5 stars Drago's talent under used in "Solar"
For Billy Drago (Diplomatic Immunity) fans this is not an example of his best work but if you collect his movies, add it. The storyline is okay and Michael Pare (appearing with Mr. Drago again in Deadly Heros) is good in his role as a motorcycle-riding lunar cop from the future. For Drago fans though, Mr. Drago is the bad guy as usual but he uses a lot of profanity which is really not his style. As a psycho biker, Drago's role could have been developed more to give Pare a much better advisary. A good portrayal in the movie is done by Robin Smith (Never Say Die). He's an android from hell sent to finish up what Pare doesn't. Still, this movie is worth a look for any sci-fi lover.

2-0 out of 5 stars please fix up this videos picture ASAP!
You have the wrong picture for this movie please fix up for B-grade sci-fi movie with Micheal Pare(Bad Moon.Falling Time)!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great flick!
This is a surprisingly well-written and acted movie. I'd thought it'd be just another ho-hum sc-fi, but I was wrong. This film actually has some substance. The story has a number of complex plot twists, some predictable, some not. The star as well as the supporting actor playing the evil robot cop turn in really good performances, and the rest of the cast does a credible job as well. I do recommend it; I think you'll like it. ... Read more
