5-0 out of 5 stars possibly the best thing David Lynch has ever done
For all the justifiable praise David Lynch received for directing (and co-writing) the pilot episode of Twin Peaks, no one has convinced me that he's ever done a finer directing job than this installment. This was, of course, the episode which introduced the little dancing man and the red-curtained room into the show, and it was a bold signal that Lynch was unafraid to take film into new and unusual territory. That he did so in the typcially conservative setting of network television is even more remarkable.

Attempting a summary of how this episode fits into the overall storyline would likely take longer than the space alloted here, but it should be remembered that the mystery of "Who killed Laura Palmer?" was never really the point of the show. The mystery it posed was really just a device to move the plot along so that we could get to know the characters, and in this respect Lynch excels. The focus of the episode is Agent Cooper's unconventional investigative tactics, but what we remember is what the process of the investigation reveals about Cooper and those around him.

We remember little moments like Cooper's joyfuul exclamation, "Damn good coffee. And hot!" These little moments are what defines character, and when you strip away everything else from Twin Peaks, character is what remains. These people are in varying degress loving, petty, deceptive and endearing. In this respect they are more like all of us than might be apparent from the first glance. David Lynch's greatest gift is that he understands this and has the skill to put it on screen. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Jonathon Schaech is film noir phy-zine
Enough talk about the woman in the movie. Let the ladies have their say, because Mr. Jonathon Schaech was looking particularly tender in this psycho chop flick. I've seen him in other movies, but never "noticed" him before this film. I'm new to him as an actor; but I'll look deeper, now that I've seen him in this. He's got those psycho-drama eyes that just draw you in.
I personally think that he should be cast in some more mentally challenging film of completely non-Hollywood context, and a non-Hollywood cast.... definitely over any sea he'd blossom. Non- American actors and director. As I've said I don't much about him, so he may have been down all these avenues, and I haven't had the chance to check him out. His eyes alone say a lot more than the script of this film.

3-0 out of 5 stars For Henstrich fans only
If you are willing to watch Natasha Henstrich in virtually anything, then this movie is a good bet for you. I bought this because I'd watch Natasha Henstridge in anything but this is just awful, wooden acting, shoddily scripted, twists that you can see a mile off, and even the obligatory [love making] scene with Natashas top off, (thrown in for no purpose) is done so badly you just wonder why anyone bothered. Anyone who sees Natasha Henstridge wonders why she hasnt become a star, look no further than this, your only as good as your last movie and this [stinks]!!! 5-0 out of 5 stars This DVD is excellent
For those who have seen The Last Don or the Godfather they will not be disapointed with his latest creation The Last Don 2 it has all the earmarking's of a Mario Puzo story with great performances by Jason Gedrick and Kristie Alley. The movie centers around the Clericuzio family and in this sequel to the Last Don Cross Jason Gedrick's character is brought back this time to be the driving force behind the family and It's saviour. The Last Don 2 as in the first movie has some interesting parallels to Hollywood and Mob life suggesting that they are similar worlds. Although I strongly reccomend this movie I believe to fully enjoy it you must see the first of this series The Last Don. And if your A Mario Puzo fan you wont be sorry for watching this Movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad follow-up
First let me say to the guy that said Mario must have turned in his grave, he was alive and involved with this production when it was filmed. You should research before making a fool commment and then following it by a stab at mentally handicapped people, you must be quite the human being!

Anyway, like was said this picks up where "The Last Don" left off. Not bad for Television and if you are a fan of Mob-style movies, this is a great endcap to the Mario Puzo legacy. I always thought Joe Mantenga stole the show in "The Last Don" and it's great to have him reprise his role again although the focus is mainly on the younger generation. This may not be "The Sopranos" but very entertaining none the less.

3-0 out of 5 stars the last don II
i think the last don II was a good movie about the mob. i think it would be good for part III was made so people like me can enjoy watching.

1-0 out of 5 stars Slightly less entertaining than root canal surgery
Anyone rating this movie more than one star needs to have their head examined. Mario Puzo is turning over in his grave, having his name associated with this "movie". There is a good possibility that the screenplay was written by the 4-year-old autistic girl Bethany. The terms "plot", "transition" and "cohesion" are clearly not in the writer's vocabulary. 127 minutes of my life that I will never be able to get back.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fine entertainment--not quite up to Part 1
I really enjoyed "The Last Don" (Part 1). Although it wasn't quite the masterpiece that "The Godfather" was, I thought it was more true-to-life than the great classic. "The Last Don" saga deals with the modern mafia, and the efforts of the head of the Clericuzio family to extricate his family from crime, and enter the legitimate world with his empire's wealth intact.

Part 2 picks up exactly where Part 1 ends. In my opinion Part 2 is quite watchable, and constitutes good entertainment. It is not quite up to Part 1. Certain segments of it seem over-acted and perhaps overly simplistic--it lacked the twists and surprises that made Part 1 such a delight. Most of the time I felt that I knew exactly where Part 2 was taking us.

Notwithstanding my criticisms, this is a very entertaining sequel. Its portrayal of Hollywood is very funny, and there are certain components of the film that I frankly am surprised did not get someone sued. Spoiler omitted here, but if you watch Part 2 you will most surely know exactly what I mean.

I enjoyed it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars amazing, brilliant, fantastic, enigmatic, addictive
I watched the movie more times than I have actually spoken words. It's the movie of the decade. An absolute blockbuster. Watch it, it's like non-other.Jason Gedrick is Al Pacino in the last don. He is a outstanding italian mafia, a perfect 10.

5-0 out of 5 stars Its great from start to finish!
It will keep you on the edge of your seat! It is the best part two mini series I've seen yet!

5-0 out of 5 stars SECOND BEST TO THE GODFATHER TRILOGY
I REALLY ENJOYED THE MINI SERIES ON TV. A MUST SEE. MAKES AN EXCELLENT MOVIE FOR COLLECTORS. ONE COMMENT THOUGH. THE MINI SERIES "THE LAST DON" COMES IN THREE TAPES. WHY PART 2 IS ONLY IN ONE TAPE?.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good one!
This movie made me feel good all over. It just kinda took me by surprise and swept me offa my feet. I don't think I have ever felt this way about another movie so far, so I know I can hang with that. Anyways, it makes me feel special and when i see those actors in the love triangle, it gives me a good feeling all over.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT Ruby Cairo
This is the edited edition of Ruby Cairo, which was released in the U.S. Andy McDowell objected to the nudity in the original. "Deceptions" is the edited version. Ruby Cairo is only available overseas.
I give it 2 stars because it is not the original.

3-0 out of 5 stars A rainy Saturday movie-
I enjoyed this movie. It is a mystery with a twist (the best kind) and since I enjoy the three main actors in the "triangle" (Andie, Liam, and Viggo) it was fun to wait for new and different scenes to compare (and on which to speculate) as the characters developed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Totally awful!1
This film had great potential; however, watching Andie McDowell "act" was so painful, my teeth ached. Her dead-slow presence and stiff dialogue served as a perfect foil for Liam Neeson, who redeemed the film with his natural talent. You could almost see the cogs turning in McDowell's mind as she struggled to remember her lines. This would have worked for me, had *anyone* but McDowell been cast as the lead.

3-0 out of 5 stars A ok movie
This was a serious drama and I love dramas. But this movie is the kind of drama were you can sort of grow out or the drama in it. It seems like theres too much drama and that made this movie sour and a little mocking. I say take it or leave it. ... Read more

Pretty ornithologist Rachel (Natasha Henstridge) agrees to let a team ofFBI agents take over her apartment for a strategic observation post when NelsonMandela comes to town. Rachel's lonely, though, and when one of the agents seesthat, he seduces her. Surprise! He turns out not to be an FBI agent at all, andis actually a ruthless assassin. She foils his first attempt on Mandela's lifeand soon finds herself on his list of witnesses to be eliminated. Her estrangedmom (Lauren Hutton) is also in jeopardy as he ties up loose ends. This is a filmthat could almost be good, but it has a few factors working against it: Theassassin (Jonathon Schaech) occasionally slips in and out of his South Africanaccent, Rachel's adenoidal best friend is just plain irritating, and Huttonstill looks a bit too good to be a down-and-out alcoholic nympho ex-hippie baglady. Also, the story telegraphs its plot twists well in advance--Rachel'sfriend may as well have a tattoo that says "dead girl" across her forehead fromthe very start.

Still, the movie tries hard and occasionally succeeds, despiteits slack direction and murky plot, achieving a bloody slam-bang thrill or twoalong the way. Those who enjoy guilty-pleasure filmmaking should likeCaracara, if they don't look too closely at the threadbare spots.Caracara, by the way, is a rare bird of prey that Rachel keeps for a petin her apartment; the multifaceted bird doubles up on metaphorical duty as well.--Jerry Renshaw ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I liked it better 12 years ago.
This movie was awesome when I first saw it, but I was 13. I recently bought this movie for my younger brother because he's into the skating thing and there aren't many movies like this being made. As I was watching I noticed the acting to be very mediocre but the plot was pretty solid.

The best thing about this movie is the skateboarding celebrities doing a little acting. Tony Hawk being one of them. There's a lot of "old school" skate tricks going on and just looking at the huge boards they used shows how much stuff has evolved.

Overall I think this will appeal to the younger teen audience. If you're interested in that genre though, this is a must have classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars gleaming the cube is a classic for anyone ,breathtaking
this movie is a must for any old school and new school skater its one of the best movies to add to your collection of movies it features the talents of natas kaupus, tony hawk, rodney mullen the best skater in the world, mike vallely, and more.its got some of the greatest freestyle stunts by rodney mullen, plus christain slater does a good job convicing you he's a true skater besides the flaws of christain pushing off and the plot its pure genious a priceless classic for all to view and (enjoi)enjoy.
