5-0 out of 5 stars Faerie Tale Theatre: The Nightingale
Mick Jagger stars as the Emperor of Cathay in this beautiful and lavish production from Faerie Tale Theatre. It's one of the most touching faerie tales, and it turns out to be one of the best episodes from this series. Jagger turns in an excellent performance as the Emperor, and Barbara Hershey is absolutely charming as the loyal kitchen maid. A spellbinding episode that is one of my favourites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet and affecting
Mick Jagger stars as the Emperor of Cathay in THE NIGHTINGALE, FAERIE TALE THEATRE'S great new telling of the tale.

He is quite good in his acting role here, although one can't help thinking that someone more suitable could have been found, considering the series' impeccable casting in all its productions.

Barbara Hershy plays the Little Kitchen Maid who opens the Emperor's heart by bringing him the magical Nightingale, who is voiced by Shelly Duvall (creator and producer of the series).

Also featured are Mako and Edward James Olmos. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Huge anti-climax!
I eagerly awaited to watch this movie and this for many reasons: 1-it's based on a Mario Puzo's novel; 2-I've read and loved this novel; 3-it's a mob movie; 4-Danny Aiello, one of my favourite actors was in it. Well, I'm not saying it is bad, but I guess everyone that has read the book first could probably be disappointed by this movie. The biggest goof: the Santadio massacre scene should be put at the end of the movie, as it stands on the novel. Instead, having put it at the opening scene, everything becomes easier to anticipate and the movie loses a lot of intensity and verve. Don't even compare it to any of the three Godfathers. There's absolutely no track of the Godfather here: no sign of Pacino, de Niro, Duvall, Caan , not to talk about Brando. Even Aiello and Joe Mantegna are a little bit disappointing, while Jason Gedrick gives a really excellent performance. I'm sure that Coppola, scorsese or Tarantino would have made of this novel a much better movie.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good-No where near Godfather
Mario Puzo's The Last Don was a very good mob movie-but now where near the mob classics like The Godfather Trilogy, Goodfellas, Scarface, etc, etc. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes the mobster flicks

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Movie regarding The Mob
I have seen both movies, the Last Don I and II several times and each time it gets more fascinating. I rate this movie as one of my favorites as well as the GodFather. The acting in the movie by Jason Gedrick was superb as well as all the other actors were outstanding. The Last Don certainly proves to show that you cannot trust your own family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well done
What else would you expect from an amazing story. I watched the mini-series and i absolutely loved it , then i was hoping for the movie to come out.My prayers were ansewered later and am i glad they ever did. The movie is just as captivating as the book or the series, but the problem was that some interesting parts concerning the development of the main characters that were shown in the mini series, but not the movie. Overall this is the best movie ever edited into a videotape coming from a 6 episode series. It should have been in theatres. Well done.

4-0 out of 5 stars one of mario puzo's finest.
this is a great mob story,it shows almost every angle and position in a mafia-"family".danny aiello was terrific and jason gedric did very well and should be considered in some future mob movies with most experienced mob actors getting older.i appreciated how it told story of a full decade.(also, the book is well worth reading)R.I.P. What is there to say about the best series ever made. You'll laugh, hearing dale talk to diane and special guest appearances by David LYnch himself.

5-0 out of 5 stars A mind like a dimond-David Lynch
Every scene in this fantastic series is overflowing with unconventional humor, twisted fear, raging evil, and quircky characters. There has never been a better show on television. From Coopers passion for coffe, cherry pie, and Tibet, to a guest appearance in drag by David Duchovney, Twin Peaks offer nothing ordinary. There takes a certain personality to fully enjoy the humor of this show. I love each and every member of this show. Lynch was able to capture their simplicity along with their excentricities, and he opened them up to you as though they were people in your own town. The question isn't who killed Laura Palmer. If that is all you cared about, then you missed the purpose of the show. The brilliant mind of David Lynch gave the world a look into worlds within our world, and dared us to be scared. He dared us to be a little bit crazy. To this day, there is no one in the world who scares me more than BOB.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Dale's Journey Continues...
The "Twin Peaks" saga captivates with dark intensity tinged with left-field humor. Special Agent Dale Cooper is my favorite Maclachlan role, even as I discover this series ten years later. You can't stop now; this tape only makes you anxious to see the rest of what happens! Beyond who killed Laura Palmer...WHERE IS BOB? To be continued up through episode 29!!! It'll freak you out, in that bizarre twisted way only Lynch's "Twin Peaks" and Dale Cooper can!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars The Series is Great--The VHS Tapes Are Unwatchable!
BEWARE!! I know that it's going to be hard to wait for the rest of the episodes to be released to DVD (especially if you've already purchased and watched the first seven episodes on DVD), but trust me, wait for DVD. You'll end up saving yourself a lot of time and energy. The VHS tapes are in deplorable condition--the sound goes in and out, the screen is fuzzy and jumps, and it's difficult to make out what is going on. Don't try to struggle through it--just wait for it to come out on DVD and watch it in good condition. You'll be glad you did, especially when you come across the more "shocking" and exciting scenes in episodes 10-14.

5-0 out of 5 stars ENTER THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF TWIN PEAKS...
I JUST RECENTLY FINISHED VIEWING THIS SERIES FOR THE 4th TIME, AND IT HAS NOT LOST A STEP!!! JUST A BRILLIANT AND INSIGHTFUL STUDY OF THE DEEP MYSTERIES THAT THRIVE WITHIN US ALL. DUALITY IS PRESENTED AS ENTERTAINMENT BY DAVID LYNCH. FOR ALL OF YOU THAT ENJOY TWIN PEAKS AS MUCH AS I DO, YOU HAVE THE SOON-TO-BE-RELEASED DVDS (ALTHOUGH ARTISAN IS NON-COMMITTAL ABOUT THE SEASON 2 RELEASE)TO LOOK FORWARD TO. ALSO, A RECENT EUROPEAN INTERVIEW WITH LYNCH REVEALED HE MAY BE CONSIDERING A RETURN TO TWIN PEAKS SOON.....COOL!!! COMMENTS WELCOME...

3-0 out of 5 stars weird meets weirder
Twin Peaks is undoubtably a whodunnit masterpiece, with plot twists and intriguing characters at every turn. I enjoyed the originality and suspense of the first 5 episodes, however, by episode 6 the bizarre world that Lynch created was just too much to take. What was once intriguing becomes a redundant bore. By episode 9 you are more than ready for the series to be over with and the loose ends to be tied up. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Enchanting and mind melting
If you see one you have to see them all. The best series ever. It draws you in and welcomes you to the beautiful world of David Lynch and Laura Palmer. It is dramatic, quirky and seductive. Once you start watching you'll never want to stop. Fire Walk with Me (the prequel to the series) is also wonderful because you get a chance to meet Laura Palmer and know her in all her characters glory. Makes you wish that Sheryl Lee would have gotten more time in the limelight. She puts on an excellent performance. I recommend watching the series first. The soundtracks for both the series and the film are absolutely hypnotic and I recommend them both. If you are looking for an alternate reality, welcome to mine.

YOU WILL KNOW WHO KILLED LAURA. YOU WILL BE HOPELESSLY LOST IN THE TANGLED WEB THAT DAVID LYNCH WEAVES. YOU WILL ALSO SUFFER THROUGH ONE OF THE MOST DELIBERATELY VIOLENT SCENES EVER SHOT FOR TELEVISION.FOR A SHOW THAT "LIVED INSIDE A DREAM", TP'S VIOLENCE SEEMS ALL TOO REAL IN THIS DAY AND AGE.THIS SHOW WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIME. 5-0 out of 5 stars Dave, please give us the DVD!
All I have to say is, where's the DVD? The series represents one of David Lynch's best storylines ever. It raises the bar for television. He gives the audience the benefit of the doubt, and never dumbs it down.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Original TV Show

My sister and I were recently discussing our favorite movies when we were little. And this one was it. We had the disney movies and stuff, but this movie is funny and a great story. We use to watch this movie a lot! A great, perfect movie for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fond Memories
I rented every volume of the Faerie Tale Theatre that the video store had at least 100 times when I was a kid. All these years later, this is the one I remember the most. That must say something for the quality of this story. Kids and parents will love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Twin Peaks at its intriguing brilliancy
The start of the intrigue and the mystery is presented in the first 5 episodes- the characters are introduced and the atmosphere is set. Mesmerising soundtrack, with Audrey's theme being one of my favourites. This is a must for all to see- even if you are not a hardcore Twin Peaks fan, perhaps after watching the first five you will be. Enjoy and fall into it.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best TV Series EVER!
There's nothing more I need to add to what anyone else has already said about this groundbreaking, brilliant television series. Other than its existence gave me hope for the, otherwise, bland world of network television. Its cancellation dashed those hopes and confirmed my bleak opinion about network television and its viewers. Potential buyers of this series might want to check for a DVD release before buying it. This video series is recorded in EP mode, making it slightly grainy and fuzzy (even on the best players). Being that Twin Peaks is so visually (as well as aurally) amazing, I think it was kind of a rip-off, that its Extended Play recording wasn't made clear by the manufacturers. If there's never a better version released, the series is so unbelievably great, that ANY version is better than none. Just watch it anyway you can! Remember: "The owls are not what they seem."

5-0 out of 5 stars Twin Peaks is a harrowing and gripping story...brilliant!
I watched Twin Peaks for the first time this summer with my newly found beloved. I wasn't sure what to expect of it, being an early 90's TV series I was expecting some simular to the pulp series "The X-Files", Which wouldn't have been a bad thing. But I soon foud out it was something much more harrowing, gripping and meaningfull. The depth that Lynch takes it to is fantastic, as are the actors and well there is nothing negative about the first series, the second series go's of on a bit of a tangent, but is still worth watching, especailly the last few episodes.
All I can say is that I will always have fond memory's of watching this brilliant show.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best thing happened ever
This series is truly the best thing ever to happen to this planet. For all of you out there who doesn't know this: The series consist of 30 episodes and a film (Twin Peaks - Fire walk with me). Episode 1 (The pilot) and 9 (the first of season 2) is 90 minutes each and the rest is 45 minutes long. The film is about 2 hours and 10 minutes. It all begins with the discovery of Laura Palmer's body. In the beginning it seems like just another detective story, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't want to give away too much, but it builds from there to the grand finale at the end...

Just buy this...It's worth all the money. It's not easy to come by so buy it as soon as you can. The only thing you should be aware is that if you buy the boxed set or even separate tapes of this, you won't get the pilot episode. It's not for sale!!!! There is a pilot episode out there, but it's the "european version" which means it have a different ending, so the ending of the pilot doesn't match the beginning of episode 2. (Actually the pilot is listed as episode 0 and the second episode is 1 etc). So don't be fooled. It says "episode 1" on the cover, but it's actually no.2. The only way you can watch the original pilot episode with its original ending is on TV. I've heard that it's going to be released on DVD with the pilot, but you shouldn't count on it...

Well enough of the facts!! The whole thing is 26 hours and 10 minutes long and I've seen it 15 times, so you should too. (It's true, I've seen it 15 times and I'm not tired of it yet).

Thank you

5-0 out of 5 stars More technical information for British buyers

I now have the full set and am delighted with the quality of the videos. Its upgraded rating is now 5 stars.

They should have stopped after the first series of Twin Peaks. The first series all ties up nicely at the end and is one of the weirdest and most original murder mysteries of all time. The second series loses its way a bit but it does have its moments and the ending is, well, just what you would expect from Twin Peaks! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Faerie Tale Theatre: The Three Little Pigs
Hilarious episode from the Faerie Tale Theatre series with an all-star cast. Billy Crystal as well as his on-screen brother actors are excellent as the three pigs, and Jeff Goldblum is show-stealing as the Big Bad Wolf. Valerie Perrine is a knock-out and makes a surprisingly sexy pig in this faerie tale. A great comedic hit for the entire family to enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this series!
My brother, sisters and I grew up watching the Faerie Tale Theatre collection, and loving them all. By the way, they're not just for kids! My mother loved them so much she went out of her way to find them for my little niece to enjoy. I highly recommend them to anyone with (or even without) children to view them!

4-0 out of 5 stars cute and appealing
Billy Crystal, Valerie Perrine, Doris Roberts and Jeff Goldblum star in the new telling of the tale from FAERIE TALE THEATRE.

One of the more light-hearted entries in the series, its a delightfully comic piece, played out by master comedians Crystal and Roberts, with the beautiful Perrine cutting a mean figure as a porker indeed.

The series was a huge success, boasting a huge multi award-winning cast (Tonys, Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, Golden Globes, etc), and creator/producer Shelly Duvall has earned laurels for one of the finest family series in years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the Fairie Tale Theatres
I must have rented this video 40-50 times for my then pre-school age son and daughter. We all had the lines memorized. Billy Crystal is terrific as one of the pigs (Peter, Paul and Larry) and Jeff Goldblum is a howl as the wolf. The whole cast is great. This is truly a film that everyone in the family will love. The best.

5-0 out of 5 stars As Unforgettable as Nat
This was a household staple rented over and over from our local video store, played over and over for all ages whenever our guests seemed willing. There was never ever anything but laughter and appreciation; I'm still trying to find the Samuel Barber music played just so. Please let me know if you know where I can get a copy... there are future grandchildren and grandnieces/nephews in my life whose lives will be incomplete without it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Film in the Faerie Tale Theatre Series
Another one of my favorite films in the Faerie Tale Theatre series. Christopher Reeve plays the galliant prince who loves listening to a good story or two. Bernadette Peters plays the beautiful and graceful princess. Carol Kane plays a very whimsical good fairy. And watch out for Beverly DeAngelo as the wicked fairy Henbaine. She really used to scare me when I was little especially as the fire breathing dragon. A very interesting scene in the film. The special effects are intriguing. Although, I feel the plot is slowed down by a few unnecessary segments, I still love this movie and would recommend it to absolutely everyone!!! A+

5-0 out of 5 stars Faerie Tale Theatre: Sleeping Beauty
Charming and obviously one of the funniest episodes from Faerie Tale Theatre, this is the classic tale of a beauty who was cast into a spell of a deep sleep and a prince must come to kiss her in order to wake her and the rest of the kingdom. Bernadette Peters and Christopher Reeve are absolutely amazing in their roles and have excellent chemistry. Beverly D'Angelo was equally impressive as the wicked Henbane. The script is filled with hilarious one-liners and situations. A great episode.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this movie as a child and I still love it today!
Faerie tale theatre has lots of wonderful shows with great actors, but my favorite is this one. Christopher Reeves and Burnedette Peters are wanderful actors that bring the tale of Sleeping Beauty to life. If you never watched one of Shelly Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre collections, I highly recommend watching them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Sleeping Beauty is Sleeping Classic"
When I say "Sleeping Classic" I mean that since the "Faerie Tale Theatre" series has gone out of print, and what a shame it did, all of the movies are now known as classics. "Sleeping Beauty" has always been my favorite of the series. The portrayal of all the characters is acted out with such passion, Bernadette Peters and Christopher Reeve have excellent chemistry on screen and Beverly D'Angelo is perfect for Henbane, the evil sorceress not to mention, the special effects were cutting edge considering this was 1982! It is also probably the only time you'll ever see Bernadette Peters on film, other than "Cinderella." It's just as good as the Disney version, if not better. I believe every single "Faerie Tale Theatre" movie is a screen gem, and if you decide to view "Sleeping Beauty" for the first time, don't hesitate, it's great for family viewing!

2-0 out of 5 stars Faerie Tale Theatre: Sleeping Beauty
I was very disappointed with this movie. I've enjoyed many others from the Faerie Tale Theatre collection, so I was expecting to be more like the others. It was not very romantic or uplifting, as I expected Sleeping Beauty to be. It was comical, but were a couple parts that had sexual inuendos (sp?) and I would have been embarrassed if I had watched this for the first time with family or friends. I bought this movie thinking it would be a cute, romantic fairy tale that my family and I would enjoy. But I don't know if I even want my young children to watch it. Overall, it was okay, but did not at all meet my expectations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars my personal fairy tale theatre movie
If your looking for a fairy tale for kids that can make even you laugh this is the one. Robin Williams will lighten the mood every time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bad for Children
This film contains language and sexual content. Robin Williams uses profanity and parental discretion is advised. It is a funny telling of the story for adults but not younger viewers... Parents should watch the movie first to decide if it is appropiate for their children, and trust me, it isn't!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Undoubtably one of the best Faerie Tale Theatre videos.
This episode of The Tale of the Frog Prince, starring the hilarious Robin Williams and wonderful Teri Garr, is not only a very well told classic children's tale, but a comedy. It has plenty of bits an adult would find entertaining, none being underhand or crude, while still amusing to a younger audience. I grew up watching this series; I loved it then, and I still love it now ... A very good movie to see, and a deal if you can buy it anywhere!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, but for adults
This is a hilariously funny version of a children`s fairy tale. Both Robin Williams and Teri Garr do a superb job in their portrayals of the frog-prince and the princess, but you will, most likely, be surprised at how well Rene Aberjonois (Clayton, fron the t.v. series Benson) does comedy. The only caveat is that because of the language and some the situations I would not recommend this video for pre-teens, but anyone else will definitely be amused! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good one!
This movie made me feel good all over. It just kinda took me by surprise and swept me offa my feet. I don't think I have ever felt this way about another movie so far, so I know I can hang with that. Anyways, it makes me feel special and when i see those actors in the love triangle, it gives me a good feeling all over.

2-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT Ruby Cairo
This is the edited edition of Ruby Cairo, which was released in the U.S. Andy McDowell objected to the nudity in the original. "Deceptions" is the edited version. Ruby Cairo is only available overseas.
I give it 2 stars because it is not the original.

3-0 out of 5 stars A rainy Saturday movie-
I enjoyed this movie. It is a mystery with a twist (the best kind) and since I enjoy the three main actors in the "triangle" (Andie, Liam, and Viggo) it was fun to wait for new and different scenes to compare (and on which to speculate) as the characters developed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Totally awful!1
This film had great potential; however, watching Andie McDowell "act" was so painful, my teeth ached. Her dead-slow presence and stiff dialogue served as a perfect foil for Liam Neeson, who redeemed the film with his natural talent. You could almost see the cogs turning in McDowell's mind as she struggled to remember her lines. This would have worked for me, had *anyone* but McDowell been cast as the lead.

3-0 out of 5 stars A ok movie
This was a serious drama and I love dramas. But this movie is the kind of drama were you can sort of grow out or the drama in it. It seems like theres too much drama and that made this movie sour and a little mocking. I say take it or leave it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Australia.
This is the story of two men William O'Hara Burke(Irish) and John William Wills (English) it follows them as they cross the continent of Australia.

These two men went down in Australian history as being the first two to cross the continent. There is also a tragic element to the story as the two men died on the way back to Melbourne. This film makes excellent use of Australia both its landscapes and actors. Jack Thompson puts in an excellent performance as Burke and English actor Nigel Havers is good as Wills. Greta Scacchi is also in the film and is very good.

With stunning cinematography excellent acting and attention to historical detail this film is surely one of the best Australia has ever produced. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This DVD is excellent
For those who have seen The Last Don or the Godfather they will not be disapointed with his latest creation The Last Don 2 it has all the earmarking's of a Mario Puzo story with great performances by Jason Gedrick and Kristie Alley. The movie centers around the Clericuzio family and in this sequel to the Last Don Cross Jason Gedrick's character is brought back this time to be the driving force behind the family and It's saviour. The Last Don 2 as in the first movie has some interesting parallels to Hollywood and Mob life suggesting that they are similar worlds. Although I strongly reccomend this movie I believe to fully enjoy it you must see the first of this series The Last Don. And if your A Mario Puzo fan you wont be sorry for watching this Movie.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad follow-up
First let me say to the guy that said Mario must have turned in his grave, he was alive and involved with this production when it was filmed. You should research before making a fool commment and then following it by a stab at mentally handicapped people, you must be quite the human being!

Anyway, like was said this picks up where "The Last Don" left off. Not bad for Television and if you are a fan of Mob-style movies, this is a great endcap to the Mario Puzo legacy. I always thought Joe Mantenga stole the show in "The Last Don" and it's great to have him reprise his role again although the focus is mainly on the younger generation. This may not be "The Sopranos" but very entertaining none the less.

3-0 out of 5 stars the last don II
i think the last don II was a good movie about the mob. i think it would be good for part III was made so people like me can enjoy watching.

1-0 out of 5 stars Slightly less entertaining than root canal surgery
Anyone rating this movie more than one star needs to have their head examined. Mario Puzo is turning over in his grave, having his name associated with this "movie". There is a good possibility that the screenplay was written by the 4-year-old autistic girl Bethany. The terms "plot", "transition" and "cohesion" are clearly not in the writer's vocabulary. 127 minutes of my life that I will never be able to get back.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fine entertainment--not quite up to Part 1
I really enjoyed "The Last Don" (Part 1). Although it wasn't quite the masterpiece that "The Godfather" was, I thought it was more true-to-life than the great classic. "The Last Don" saga deals with the modern mafia, and the efforts of the head of the Clericuzio family to extricate his family from crime, and enter the legitimate world with his empire's wealth intact.

Part 2 picks up exactly where Part 1 ends. In my opinion Part 2 is quite watchable, and constitutes good entertainment. It is not quite up to Part 1. Certain segments of it seem over-acted and perhaps overly simplistic--it lacked the twists and surprises that made Part 1 such a delight. Most of the time I felt that I knew exactly where Part 2 was taking us.

Notwithstanding my criticisms, this is a very entertaining sequel. Its portrayal of Hollywood is very funny, and there are certain components of the film that I frankly am surprised did not get someone sued. Spoiler omitted here, but if you watch Part 2 you will most surely know exactly what I mean.

I enjoyed it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars David Lynch created Laura Palmer
There is a short flash-back intercut in this episode that made me love the world of Twin Peaks. The flash-back when James remembers Laura, starring Sheryl Lee. She was the one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely enchanting & nerve tingling!
This movie is one of the best! from Laura Palmers day to day good girl, bad girl personas to "BOB's" nightly visits to the small seemingly innocent town of Twin Peaks this is a must see for horror, fantasty movie lovers. a definate 5 star movie. David Lynch has a way to catch his veiwers attention with the exploits of Laura Palmer & the town of Twin Peaks & the evils that lay under it! this is a mix between Twilight Zone & the X-files ... 5-0 out of 5 stars "Please, don't make me leave".......
My favorite episode in the entire series. This was the episode where I completely fell under the spell of both Kyle Maclachlan AND Dale Cooper. To describe this episode would be to describe the essence of a dream... Sad, twisted, and (of course) dreamy. From the hilariously funny beggining, the beautiful and mysterious middle half, to the ultra-twisted and sad ending, it will take your breath away. The next week would just not come fast enough...

5-0 out of 5 stars LOG lady offers more camomile tea...
Yet another example of the brilliant mind of david lynch and the great talented cast. From the arrival of gordon things not only get funny they get hilarious. Although not intended to do so, the cast pulls it off clasically.

I recommend this series to anyone who needs a little something different.

The gorgeous scenery in the north western area is just beautiful!! ... Read more
