4-0 out of 5 stars Intensely funny!!!
This is an important "over-looked" classic. Where's the DVD? Why are some Movie Companies re-releasing "Re-mastered" versions of films that are already available on DVD, when there are so many yet to be released once?

4-0 out of 5 stars I laughed so much the first time I watched this!
I love this movie! One of those late-night films I happened to watch, I thought from the way it started I was in for a standard action flick, boy was I wrong! This is a really funny movie! it cracked me up- I had to buy it! There's something so funny about a guy who's trying to kill himself! Dabney Colemen is great as Burt Simpson, a soon-to-be retired cop who tries to off himself to get his family insurance money to send his son to college. Matt Frewer (Max Headroom, Honey I shrunk the Kids) is as goofy as ever with his one-liners and Teri Garr (Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Tootsie) is in usual form as Burt's wife. And the plot provides some great car chases, top-notch action and witty one-liners. A must-see!

5-0 out of 5 stars If you're having a bad day..watch this video
This is a great movie for sheer entertainment and fun with a nice message. What would you do if you knew you were going to die soon? How would you change things? Something profound to think about with a nice source of laughs and entertainment.Endearing characters and fun plot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pedal to the metal-varooom car chase, Dabney Coleman's good
This is a well made movie that you can get into the characters with. Dabney Coleman is great. Love the carborator sounds during the car chase sceens. If you've ever had the need for speed this is one of the best. Great plot with the switching of the blood samples. I highly recommend this film if you love to laugh and like car chases. ... Somebody in Hollywood thought there was some fish-out-of-water potential in this teaming of wild man Woody Harrelson and slow-burning Kiefer Sutherland as a pair of New Mexico cowboys who go to New York to tame the wild, wild, uh ... East. Well, they were mistaken, because this 1994 action-comedy is little more than a tiresome reworking of Crocodile Dundee. Woody and Kiefer head for the Big Apple to rescue the illegal-immigrant daughter of one of their rodeo buddies (who has mysteriously disappeared), and what they discover is a sweatshop operation run by a hot-tempered thug (Dylan McDermott, before his role on TV's The Practice). That's when the boys start using their ropin' and shootin' skills to foil the bad guys. One measure of this film's credibility is the inevitable scene of the boys riding on horseback through the gridlocked streets of Manhattan. Uh huh.You know how it goes... you just have to go with it or marvel at the sheer stupidity of it all. Of course, forget all the sniping if you're a fan of Harrelson or Sutherland--they're both doing their best under the burden of disadvantage. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars greatest cowboy movie ever
this is a great movie. I thouhgt it was funny. with the pairing of the patient sonny with the fast riding pepper. it is funny watching them try to save a cuban girl while trying to put up with each other

3-0 out of 5 stars Very Humorous
I have only recently viewed this movie. Why did I wait so long? It was very funny, and very entertaining. I would watch it again and again. I read Leonard Maltin's review of the movie. In it he says something about it being "unrealistic". Well, duh, it's just a movie. So just relax. It can be unrealistic if it wants to be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a great movie
I saw this when it first came out to rent, it is so funny you will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what they are going to do/say next.

3-0 out of 5 stars Rootin-Tootin Fun ...In The Big Apple
This review refers to the Universal/Imagine DVD edition of "The Cowboy Way"....

Look out New York!...Pepper Lewis and Sonny Gilstrap, champion rodeo riders from New Mexico are about to gallop their way into your fair city. Yessiree..these guys are real cowboys and their hog tying, roping and riding skills are about to come in mighty handy in th Big Apple.

Woody Harrelson and Kiefer Sutherland make this action/comedy very much worth the view, as two cowboys who find themselves fighting off the bad guys in NYC's garment district. They have come looking for their friend Nacho, who was to pick up his daughter, smuggled in from Cuba. What they find is a missing friend, a girl who is being held hostage by sweat-shop operators and trouble at every turn. The action and comedy is non-stop as they go up against a savvy, ruthless "slave-trader"(Dylan McDermot), but also get a little help from the NYPD in the form of one Officer Sam "Mad Dog" Shaw(Ernie Hudson), who gets a real kick out of playing cowboy.

The DVD is excellent. A beautiful widescreen picture that has sharp details, rich colors and sounds terrific in Dol Dig 5.1 Surround. There are nice captions in English for those needing them and subtitles in Spanish as well.It may also be viewed in Spanish(Stereo) or French(5.1). The DVD includes production notes, bios on the cast, a theatrical trailer, and Web links. It also says(on the case) there are "Film Highlights" as one of the features, but I could not locate these.

Three stars for a very entertaining and fun view, rated PG-13(thematic elements and brief nudity),probably one that will be watched on occassion, but may not stand up to repeated viewings. Great for Woody Harrelson or Kiefer Sutherland fans, and nice to pull out for anyone that has not seen it yet.

Happy Trails....Laurie

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Cowboy's don't come from Texas.
They come from New Mexico. 2 Ropin and Ridin Cowboys head for the Big Apple in an Action Adventure Comedy that will have your complete attention during the duration of the film. Dylan McDermot of "The Practice" plays a very convincing bad guy in a suave manner. There are great moments when the Cowboy meets the big city including a great moment when the two main characters go dining in a fine New York resturant. They don't completely stick out like a sore thumb though, and New York seems to speed right by them with no glance what so ever.
The movie brings up thoughts of wanting to do some line dancing and some "shiver shots". Don't know what that is? You'll see. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally on Video!
CBS made a big mistake waiting for more than half a year to air the second season of this great series which facilitated its cancellation. Didn't they know that the average American attention span is 20 minutes? People forgot The Magnificent Seven existed and a show which was a hit in its debut season went into oblivion... Luckily, someone finally released some of it on tape. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The cast features some of my favourite people -- Dale Midkiff as Bud is hillarious, Eric Close (currently on Now and Again, another CBS show you have to see) as Vin is a perfect choice for the part, Michael Biehn fills the shoes of Yul Brinner with aplomb, Ron Perlman is great as always. Anthony Starke is a new favourite of mine after seeing him work wonders as Ezra, the hustler, the card shark, the self-centered ego-maniac. I miss this show and only wish it had been given a better chance. We need more tapes with existing episodes.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Magnificent Seven-a must own video!
The Magnificent Seven (Michael Biehn version) is the best I have seen as far as westerns go in a very long time. An ex-Confederate officer and his army come upon an Indian village, terrorize them and then threaten to return in a few days for gold they believe the villagers to possess. Two of the villagers go to the nearest town to seek/hire men to help them. What I love about this movie are the relationships that developed between the characters, Chris and Vin, Buck and JD, Nathan and Josiah, Chris and Ezra. The movie also conveyed with a few words, their actions or even a look each character's personality, what type of a man each character is, what their dreams are, what haunts them, etc. It has action (some very violent scenes), a little romance, some comedy, a villian of course, but most of all, seven men who become heroes. Michael Biehn's portrayal of Chris Larabee as the leader of this group of men is right on the money. Dale Midkiff is a delight to watch. Eric Close, Anthony Starke, Andrew Korvit, Ron Perlman and Rick Worthy are all wonderful in their portrayal of their individual characters. These seven actors' portrayal of their characters are a great ensemble and complement one another, while at the same time they are also very unique and diverse. I highly recommend this movie. You will not be disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's the DVD?
While not a fan of westerns this is a great series. Full of action, great writing and wit, why was this cancelled when there some real rubbish on TV?

Hopefully, someone will have the presence of mind to release this on DVD and then we in the UK can enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Possible Addiction
This is a great movie by itself, but it was an even better lead in to a wonderful, if short-lived series. It has all the guns and scenery of a great western, with much of the grim reality of 'modern' movies. Characters you can really cheer for, and good guys, who sometimes aren't so good. A lot of fun! After this, you may want to watch the whole series...

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
I bought this video for my wife. We both watched it, more than once. My wife is a Michael Biehn fan and I must admit he plays a very good part.
I believe that this is better than the original..... ... Read more

Fans of Walker, Texas Ranger, martial-arts veteran Chuck Norris's small-screen alter ego, get their fill of danger, uplift, and karate moves in Team Cherokee, a feature-length version of a two-part story line.As Cordell Walker, Norris strides stoically through a typical series plot casting the Rangers as avenging angels foiling racism, greed, and their foes' Miranda rights in the name of fair play, set against the backdrop of NASCAR racing. As always, Walker and his buffed comrades solve plot lapses or flat dialogue with flying kicks, whirling elbows, and a soft-boiled idealism that synthesizes liberal tolerance, good-old-boy camaraderie, and a weakness for collarless shirts.

A string of track victories by a Native American team of car racersgoads the ruthless, redneck circuit champs to resort to intimidation, sabotage, and commercially sanctioned road rage at triple-digit speeds. As in most Walker episodes, our hero's involvement stems not from a formal assignment but from personal connections, in this case a lifelong friendship with Team Cherokee's manager. Race footage, brawls, and periodic time-outs for wooden repartee and plot exposition at avuncular C.J.'s bar advance the story past the near-fatal crash that sidelines the team's star driver, leaving the ride free for Walker's triumphant debut as a racer. Naturally, there's a climactic dustup with the villainous rival team.

Team Cherokee preserves a formula that invokes bursts of piety amid one of network television's most relentless (if bloodless) barrages of violence. Both good guys and bad are proudly reduced to stereotypes, achieving a kind of surreal neutrality: a jaw-dropping gag about the Cherokees' "reservations" is cancelled out by an equally ham-fisted caricature of the racist team's owner. Ultimately, these are cartoons, as stylized as Norris's craggy rendition of the title theme, promising "the eyes of the ranger are upon you." --Sam Sutherland ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Chuck Norris carries the torch of Justice in the West!
Those of us who are "Proud to be an American" will all agree that Chuck Norris has done an unbeatable job of picking up the torch once carried by some of our nation's best known and loved men of justice ... Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, and the Lone Ranger! These episodes even include the mystery and detective sides of Charlie Chan, Dragnet .. all wrapped into one ... but now with a new addition of incredible kick boxing by some some of the world's champs! Easy to identify with, the good guys are REAL ... not perfect heroes, but folks who strive to uphold justice, truth, and right to the best of their abilities. Every episode covers a current issue (no namby pamby cattle rustling here!), and keeps you on the edge of your seat with adventure, intrigue, mystery, crime, and of course ... a touch of Texas! Great filmatography too! All are close-captioned and can be made even more suitable for average age family viewing with the use of the Nocursing.com computer box to remove the mild unsuitable language if so desired.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Real Thing
While the buzzword of the moment is "simplify", few of us walk the walk like Noah in The Simple Life of Noah Dearborn. In addition to portraying a peaceful, examined life, this movie touches upon the challenge of integrating self-reflective living with the concerns of community and inter-personal relationships. Both Poitier and Parker give perfectly balanced performances, emotional but not maudlin.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real "must" for your soul
I have just received this video, My player allowes playback PAL and NTSC system. Looking for so long to find it. Thanks Amazon!!!
This movie gives you the perfect inside on what is really important in life. No, not the money or the rush or the importance of an ambitious carreer. It's the search for the soul and human being behind all that, behind a person. What does really matter in life?. This movie opens up your heart and after watching it, you will keep asking yourself these questions: What is love, what is important in life....or in my life.
Don't think it is all so sweet an brushed up in this movie.
Sidney Poitier will take care of that. Great actor. But also MaryLouise Parker acts so well. Her innocense and belief in the goodness of people will help you to get into the story and to finally see what she feels and experiences.
Please...watch it. It makes up for all those violent "things" we see and watch nowadays...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Very Best
I just love this movie. It's clean, the whole family can watch, and that's becoming a rarity these days. You have this 90 year old man(Poitier) who is a carpenter. He enjoys what he does, he gives a helping hand to those who need it, and lives very simple. Then you get these people who want to put up a mall at the very location where Noah lives, and he doesn't want to sell. The uncanny thing about this guy is he is a workaholic, but he lives an unhurried life. He is 90, but he looks younger. He drives an ancient car from the 1930s that looks like it's in mint condition. He has some valuable property that these people want and they try to declare him incompetent and unfit to get it. How sad. Yet, the movie will not disappoint you. Check it out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ms Lluen-go to the other end of the pool where it's deeper.
Yes, differences of opinion are what make the world go round. And I will be one of the many who found a very surprising and pleasing depth to this movie. As others have stated, it's the kind of movie that warms your heart on a dreary day. It's the kind of movie you keep a copy of to pull out and rewatch when you want to feel good about yourself. It makes you laugh, cry and even cheer. To say this movie lacks depth is like looking at the surface of the ocean and seeing only light reflecting off the ripples of the surface. You need to change your perspective and focus your attention to the deeper aspects of what lies below the surface to see the beauty that exists at those deeper levels. If this movie doesn't tug at your heart stings, then maybe the depth, power and beauty of living a simple lifestyle built around doing what you love has eluded the conscious awareness of so many caught up in the hustle bustle of daily living. I know this movie sure made me sit back, relax and enjoy its beautiful story regarding lifes lessons and meaning.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable
Although some may not understand the value of this movie and can only judge it using shallow criteria, most who see this movie with their hearts will find themselves longing to be a part of Noah's life somewhere, somehow. I saw it when it first aired on TV and have never forgotten it. In this day and age, goodness and humility are not easily stumbled upon; sometimes you need to pop this movie in the VCR just to be able to escape into Noah's world. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
Acting was very realistic. David Elliot is brilliant in this one. You get a real feel for the sadness this family goes through as it is on the brink of divorce, but with the sadness is also hope for a new beginning!

Great movie for all ages!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dodson't Journey
David James Elliott plays James Dodson who experiences two major losses, his fathers' death and the end of his marriage. Conflicting emotions are portrayed in a realistic manner as Dodson grapples with his inner turmoil as well as the pain of his young daughter on a road trip where he revisits places that were important in his past. Acceptance of the losses comes gradually - no Hollywood quick fix here - as Dodson finds he can survive these painful experiences and move on. Sensitive and insightful.

5-0 out of 5 stars best movie for fathers and daughters
I bought this movie because I am a huge David James Elliott fan. But now that I have watched it it's put into my video arsenal as one of my favorites. The relationship between James and his daughter Maggie reminded me of the relationship my father has with both my sister and I. James uses his journey to not only come to terms with his coming divorce with his wife and the ghosts from his past, but also to create a special bond with his daughter and create memories that will last forever. I highly recommend this film to anyone looking for quality family entertainment that will warm your heart

5-0 out of 5 stars A heartwarming flick on a sensitive issue
I am a 35 year old male, and although I don't have any of my own kids, I can say this film did a great job of making a soulful journey for a man that is wanting to keep his family in tact, while the wife is feeling that the relationship has ended. There are two kids involved, but the poetic nature of the film treats these matters with great delicacy and love in the midst of adversity. The pleasantness of this film is the simplicity of what is real an important. The relationship between him and his daughter is precious. One previous film done by this director: Simple Life of Noah Dearborn. I have not seen that one, but I am looking forward to it now after seeing this film.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed!
The reason why I am disappointed in this movie is no closed captioning on it. I barely understand it without CC or English subtitle. I can speak for deaf and hard of hearing people, it is extremely frustrating for me when a studio doesn't produce it with CC or English subtitle. I know the movie is good but no CC. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A favorite
When a U.S. nuclear submarine on a scientific mission is accidentally hit by a Russian sub, it will be up to three unlikely heroes to save the crew, and themselves.

Compared to Hunt For Red October and Crimson Tide, Sub Down is amateurish, but I still think it's a great movie, with lovable characters, and a good balance of science, suspense, and humor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sub Down - My Opionion
one of the better sub thrillers around.. i would compare it to "the hunt for red october" for all the excitement of an undersea high-tech adventure, this should end up being a classic buy for your collection..well worth the purchase price..

1-0 out of 5 stars hold your breath
Director Gregg Champion disowned this title so the director is listed as the infamous Alan Smithee. It actually begins with odd footage of ice falling in arctic seas (explained in the conclusion) and some jump cutting of aerial views, but soon we got lost in anti-Russian propaganda (which dates it), military hawkishness, a woman amongst a crew of men, and the worst being scientific hardware blather. Screenwriter Howard Chesley, with story by himself, Silvio Muraglia and Daniel Sladek, create a narrative of a submarine carrying a subpod named Marvyn which is to be used for research of the polar caps, but in a nice twist it is the pod which must rescue it's host submarine from disaster when it is "accidently" rammed by a Russian sub. In spite of presenting the crew of the sub with no pretence that we are seeing anything other than a set, Champion does manage an initial Alien-type moody atmosphere when the inhabitants of the pod - Stephen Baldwin, Gabrielle Anwar and Tom Conti - return to find the crew missing, their disappearance more a plot contrivance than a believable development. With a barrage of obstacles including the sea's crushing low air pressure, lack of oxygen, radioactive leakage, loose torpedoes, loss of communications, and the accompanying race against time, poor Champion falls back on panning reaction shots, and ludicrous hysterics when oxygen is rationed. Conti isn't around long but he heightens his English accent to either play a scientists, a baffoon or to match Anwar. Anwar is pretty forgettable, relying on her long hair being wet, but thankfully Baldwin adds some minor personality touches, his nerd/hunk mix less a pain than a Bruce/Arnold cartoon man of action. The whale cries on the soundtrack at the beginning has a payoff, like the falling ice, even if the footage doesn't match, and the final image is perhaps too phallic not to be laughable. ...

You'll see. ... Read more

In this day and age, goodness and humility are not easily stumbled upon; sometimes you need to pop this movie in the VCR just to be able to escape into Noah's world. ...

The whale cries on the soundtrack at the beginning has a payoff, like the falling ice, even if the footage doesn't match, and the final image is perhaps too phallic not to be laughable. ...
