5-0 out of 5 stars Now this is good
Honestly. This movie is so real and lifelike I could've written it. (But I didn't...:-p)
Brink! is about Andy Brinker (aka Brink--played by Erik von Detten--:-D), a "soul skater" who skates with his best friends Peter (Patrick Levis), Gabby (Christina Vidal), and Jordy (Asher Gold). They all skate for fun, nothing more. However, they're having problems with their rivals, Team XBladz, whose leader Val Horrigan (Sam Horrigan) has it in for Brink. Their ongoing rivalry leads to a race in school, in which one of XBladz's members, Boomer, gets hurts and can't compete in the upcoming championship.
Brink finds out that his family is having money problems, and when Val comes up to him and his friends and tells them the upsides of XBladz, Brink thinks that could be a great way to make money. So he joins the team, but his friends find out and hate him. So Brink has to figure out whether to stay true to his friends (and if they'll forgive him), or to stay on XBladz and help out his family.
This is a great movie in many aspects. The skating scenes kick, and the music is excellent. That punk rock stuff is exactly what skaters listen to, so they got that right. And the same with the clothes. The acting is good, and the plot is mundane, but believable in that sense. Plus, Erik von Detten is a total cutie, and he lights up the screen. Christina Vidal is also great. Check this out, you'll like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MOVIE, BUT NEED TO KNOW THE SONGS!

4-0 out of 5 stars Turn off your brain and just enjoy!
This is one of those movies that make the end of the week so enjoyable. You've spent your whole week dealing with people at work, a job you're not so enthused about, all the frustrations of bills and daily aggravations, but at least you have a movie like this to pop in where none of that matters for a while.

I give this movie such a high mark because of it's value in that regard. I know that by Friday night I'm not looking for a "Schindler's List" to watch, not even a semi-serious comedy. No no, I want the lowest low-brain humor I can possibly find. The stupid humor, where I can laugh loud and often. So you see, it's not so much how good the plot is, or the production, but what the movie can do for you.

The plot is thus; Dick Nelson (who seems to be a normal guy, but is given all the idiosyncracies of the normal guy by Jeff Jones so that he seems quirky) and his wife Marge are on their way to a vacation in their Station Wagon, when an intergalactic magnet manned by a walking Napoleon charicature named Todd Spengo lifts them off the ground, into space, and onto the miniscule speck of a planet that Spengo rules (prompting the obligatory "It's not the size of your planet, it's how you use it.")

What follows is a casserole of Monty Python-inspired humor with a great cameo by Eric Idle who dubs Jones's character anew as "Earth-Dick." Todd Spengo, played by Jon Lovitz in his last good role, is probably the best source of laughs. You wonder how the heck this guy manages to rule a planet when he can't complete this verse in a song, "Oh Marge, Oh Marge, my love for you is..." Not that it matters. I don't think I've ever laughed harder than at the flash-grenade scene, or when Spengo asks his guards "mutton-chops... or goatee?"

Props to Teri Garr too for getting in the spirit of things. You wonder if this character isn't the antithesis of her trouble-wife character in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," but then you think "Naaaah." I like her better in this than "Young Frankenstein" as well.

So yes, buy it, watch it. Don't look to be enlightened, just uplifted. If silliness like this were more prevalent in the world, I predict we'd have a nicer place to live in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly stupid
"Mom and Dad Save the World" is a thinly disguised parody of the "Flash Gordon" series of films. The Emperor Todd Spengo (a stupid version of Ming the Merciless) plans to destroy the earth, but falls in love with Marge Nelson (a suburban Dale Arden played by Teri Garr) when he sees her through his telescope.

Using a hokey '40s-sci-fi-style magnetic ray, he brings Marge and her husband, Dick (the middle-aged Flash Gordon of our tale) to his planet, which is populated almost entirely by stupid people. The emperor quickly imprisons Dick in order to force Marge to marry him, and then Dick must defeat the emperor, rescue Marge, and save the earth.

The bad special effects and the whole "planet of stupid people" concept are both played to the hilt in this clever, but widely underrated comedy. Jon Lovitz is terrific as emperor Spengo, and Kathy Ireland plays the part she was born for as Semage, princess of the planet of stupid people. All right, maybe that wasn't fair, but she really was well suited to the part.

One of my favorite gags in the film involves a thing called a "flash grenade", which vaporizes anyone who picks it up. Why, then would anyone pick it up, you ask? I'd tell you, but that would spoil the joke. It's amazing how effective a weapon that stupid can be on a planet full of stupid people.

High art, this ain't, but it's cute, funny, and uses its premise very effectively. Hmm... Sounds a bit like I'm just describing Kathy Ireland again...

4-0 out of 5 stars Why isn't this on DVD ???
There's nothing amazing about this movie, it's just a really stupid/funny movie and that's what is so special about it. I only want to know one thing...WHY ISN'T THIS ON DVD?

4-0 out of 5 stars I love this!
This is such a fun movie- something that we can all watch. Does anyone know when it comes out on DVD?

4-0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly Stupid
Too stupid to rate 5 stars, but just hilarious enough to rate 4. I hadn't seen this movie since it came out in the theaters and I had to find it (I could only find it on Amazon of course ... but only on VHS). And it was just as stupid and just as hilarious as I remember. I'm glad I found it. If you are a Jon Lovitz fan, this is his funniest performance in my opinion. If you like stupid humor, and you like to laugh your butt off, buy this movie. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great '80's Comedy. A Must-See!
Hey, movie lovers! If you like 80's movies, you must see this 1988 comedy! It's about a 16 year old dude named Les (Corey Haim, The Lost Boys) who wants nothing more in the world than a driver's license. Unfortunately, he thinks he knows everything about driving and doesn't need to study for his test. Is he right? No way!
The most beautiful girl in his school (Heather Graham, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me) has just asked him out on a date. There's only one problem: He doesn't have a license! Does that stop him? No! He sneaks out in the middle of the night in his grandpa's '72 Cadillac, thinking nothing can possibly go wrong. He tries his best to keep anything from happening to it, which he finds out is almost impossible!!
This movie was filmed in 1987, and released in the summer of 1988. It also features Corey Feldman (also from the Lost Boys) and is a great comedy, and a must-see! Unfortunately, its out of print on VHS, but hopefully it will come back, and on DVD! You gotta see it!! It has GOT to be the best 80's movie ever made!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhahahaha!!!
Corey Haim & Corey Feldman in the same movie!!!! OH MY!!!

Yeah, if you're a fan of either there is NO DOUBT you'll love this movie. But even if you don't its still pretty darn hilarious.

Plot: A 16yrs kid Les(Corey Haim) goes out for his driving test and well...Miserably fails. Afraid of telling his parents he lets them believe he passed until his mom finds the "Failed" paper in him clothes while doing the laundry. But that night he still ends of driving in order to take out this babe(Heather Graham). More or less to impress her.

Does'nt seem to interesting, but it ONLY get's better. Not to mention Corey Feldman gives this hilariously stupid speech about why kids have the right to drive after waiting 16yrs. And IF you have seen any of his teen movies before you know where this is headed.

Has some great scenes including a drunk lunatic. Hey and Carol Kane is a plus. It is a shame its out of print. They should put it on DVD. It may be an 80's movie, but I think in one way or another us teens can relate to it.

Enjoy!

This is one of my childhood favorite movies and I'm surprised that it's not released on DVD and there are other movies that wasn't half as good as this movie that are released on DVD's, this is one of the underrated teenage comedies of the 80's and this movie is about a 16 year old Les Anderson (Corey Haim) who is trying to get his driver's license and he wants to go out on a date with the beautiful Mercedes (Heather Graham and this was her film debut) and he wants to impress his friends Dean (Corey Feldman who puts in a great performance) and Charles (forgot who played him), later at the party Mercedes asks Les out for a date that night and he is ecstatic and that was the day when he has his driving exam but things didn't turn out the way it plans for Les cause he failed his driver's exam and he lies to his parents (Richard Masur and Carol Kane who also put on great performances) that he passed and Les's father is a guy reaching middle age that is trying hard to deal with insanity and the parent's find out about him failing his driver's exam and the father grounds him for 2 weeks, later that night Les sneaks outside in his grandfather's classic 1972 Cadillac Sedan Deville out for a joyride and picks up Mercedes and goes out for a thrill of a lifetime, but unfortunately Mercedes gets all drunk and he picks up his friends Dean and Charles and what happens later on in the movie is frightening but hilarious and it'll make you cringe and laugh at the same time, but I won't spoil the details. ... Based on the real-life story of disabled soap box derby champion Justin Yoder, this Disney bio-pic manages the difficult trick of balancing earnestness with wit, action with family drama. Frankie Muniz (TV's Malcolm in the Middle) plays Justin, a 12-year-old who accepts the limitations of his spina bifida but still wants to win a trophy like his athlete brother. Rick Rossovich and Molly Hagan are note perfect as his thoroughly likable but flawed parents, and Patrick Levis deftly portrays the difficulties of being a loving older brother who gets fed up always having to play second fiddle to his brother and his disease. Frequent trips into Justin's avid imagination, which provide humor and context, help the film avoid the sentimentality that usually accompanies triumph-over-adversity movies. (For instance, God is a race car driver who wears a T-shirt proclaiming "I don't make mistakes.") The smart script is cheerfully candid about Justin's problems (such as vomiting and lack of bladder control) and honest about the strain a disability puts on a family, but it's packed with enough action to sate the sports-minded viewer. 5-0 out of 5 stars Miracle In Lane 2
Miracle In Lane 2 stars "Malcolm In The Middle's" Frankie Muniz. This is a true story about a boy named Justin Yoder who has to be handicapped for his whole life. Justin Yoder (Frankie Muniz) wants to be like his older brother and play all the kinds of sports. One day Justin (Frankie Muniz) was helping his brother and his brother's friends deliver newspapers when he came across a paper that was talk about the Soap Box derby. Justin asks his parents and his parents don't think it was a good idea because of Justin's condition. The Yoders neighbor helped Justin and his dad build a soapbox car. This is after Justin's parents decide Justin can race. One day while Justin was racing he had to go to the hospital because of an accident when he passed out. The other boy that was racing Justin had to drop out so then Justin got to go to the finals. Once Justin found out that he was going to the finals his brother didn't want Justin to go because he thought Justin would have another accident. Once Justin competes against the last person his family members and his neighbor cheer Justin on while at the end of the race they see that Justin won. That day Justin was excited because he won the soapbox derby and won a trophie just like his older brother.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very realistic look at diabilities for families everywhere
MIRACLE IN LANE 2 stars Frankie Muniz (Malcolm on TV's "Malcolm In The Middle") and Patrick Levis (Jack on TV's "So Weird"). It's about a young boy named Justin (Frankie Muniz) who is paralyized from the waist down. He has a rare heart defect, and wants nothing more in life than to fit in with his other peers. Seth (Patrick Levis) is his older brother who worries about his brother and, at the same time, angry at his parents for always concentrating on Justin's needs and do not seem to care about him.

But Justin really wants to be like Seth, and so he wants to win a trophy because Seth is really good at sports. So he decides to start racing in soap box derby races. Seth doesn't really think it's a good idea for Justin to be doing something like that, but their parents start supporting Justin because they think it's a great idea. With a lot of heart and faith and hard work, Justin manages to make his dreams come true!

Frankie Muniz portrays his character wonderfully, as usual. By the way, Frankie Muniz earned a 2001 Golden Globes nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series and he recently earned a 2001 Emmy Award nomination also for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. Patrick Levis is a terrific young actor, too. And the rest of the supporting cast is superb as well!

This movie is based on a true story. I am seventeen years old and I think this is a wonderful film. I don't think that just because I'm a teenager then I shouldn't be watching the Disney Channel. I actually enjoy watching the Disney Channel and Disney films. If a teenager like me can enjoy this film, then anybody can enjoy MIRACLE IN LANE 2. Remember, that it's Disney and they couldn't be TOO realistic or serious - they had to make it so kids would understand and enjoy it, too. All, in all, MIRACLE IN LANE 2 is a must own.

5-0 out of 5 stars good film making
disney did a good thing shooting a movie about a wheel chair bound boy named Justin Yoder(based on a true story). I also like the scenes when they are in the court room deciding whether Justin should play baseball or not I like how the mom always defends him because hes handicapped and should have the right to play. this is a good movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Miracle In Lane 20- A heartwarming story
I loved this movie. I dont' know what more there is to say. It's a story about a boy, Justin Yoder, who goes of for soapbox racing from a wheelchair. Two thumbs up!

5-0 out of 5 stars D Vance
This is a wonderful movie "inspired by the life of" Justin Ross Yoder and his soap box derby racing. Justin was 10 years old when I first met him in Akron in 1997. I visited with him in L.A. during the filming of the movie in February 2000 and again in Akron in 2001. The movie has brought so many new racers to the derby and that's really great. Justin is a true soap box derby hero as he paved the way for other children with his "Justin Brake" and winning spirit. I want to clarify that the movie was greatly inspired by the life of Justin. It's not a documentary. I was in the movie too, along with my husband and my daughter, Dolline, the 1997 Super Stock World Champion (the kind of car Justin raced early in the movie). We had a great time on the set and learned alot about making movies! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great movie with a great cast
Upon watching this, one has to ask themselves how this film compares to other standard Hollywood comedies. How does it compare? Very well indeed. The average comedy these days isn't as funny as this movie is. This movie is very creative and witty. This movie was so well cast and the characters are perfect for the film. Daniel Stern was hilarious as Max Grebelski and the scout troop was brilliant.

Aside from Stern, the scout troop makes the film a remarkable comedy. They work well together and have great chemistry. Ari Greenberg and Janna Michaels were my favorite scout troop characters. Ari played his role perfectly and Janna lights up the screen-she's a fantastic actress and should be in more films.

All in all, this film is a feel good comedy with great mountain scenery and is worth taking a look at.

3-0 out of 5 stars Feels like a Disney film but jokes keep it from failing
Before I begin this review, let me make something clear. This is not a good film, it is not a bad film, it is different. Although the story line is unrealistic and the acting is below the level of good, Bushwhacked manages to squeeze past the realm of boring and stupid films into just being a plain average film worth renting but not buying. Daniel Stern's downfall was probably after Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. After the Home Alones success, it seemed that Stern had just retired or disappeared. Now seen on the ABC show Regular Joe (which is probably going to be canceled), Stern has proven that he has lost his touch when he became the stupid hero instead of the guy who we wanted to get hurt. Bushwhacked is not a big-budget film and it wasn't a box office blowout either but the vast array of child stars once again turns it into one of those Disney films where good always wins and gets rewards while evil is severely punished for lying and stealing. DVD is barely worth it since it doesn't contain many extra features. Bushwhacked is long forgotten if just never known because it was just nothing, a film that had no good stuff but no bad either.

Stern stars at Max Grabelski, a wild and rude delivery man who after getting caught up in a web of lies, crooked F.B.I. agents, and money travels to Devil's Peak disguised as a forest ranger with several kids to find out what has happened. No super actors or acting in this film and no spectacular effects either.

Once again, Bushwhacked is a plain family film. Rent it when you have nothing to do or nothing good is on TV. As for buying, Bushwhacked will probably lie under a large pile of dust for years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bushwhacked
Daniel Stern plays Max Grabelski, a cheap delivery-guy who is framed for murder. He tries to find the man who framed him in Devil's Peak. Although there is a catch; in order to avoid trouble, he has to pretend to be a scout leader who leads kids to Devil's Peak. As he leads the kids into the woods, the laughs begin as Stern is attacked by a bear, plays with a beehive, discusses the birds and the bees and other wild adventures that make this movie an A+!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Grand Comedy
I watched this movie for the first time in the theaters in 1995, as soon as it came out on tape, it was very hard to find although I wanted it. I copied one from the video rental store, and have watched it soo many times that the quality is getting poor. The movie was wonderful and I reccomend it to all who are looking for a good laugh! It's a great movie to buy for kids or adults, so check it out! :)

3-0 out of 5 stars The (Dimwitted) Fugitive
Ridiculous-looking city slicker Daniel Stern plays a commonplace idiot named Max who delivers mailings for Fed-Ex. As he struts through the streets chomping down dough balls and slim jims, while slurping on a giant Coke, there isn't a soul around him who can't admit that the man defines true stupidity. And when Max is greeted by a fire in a giant mansion, where he was sent to deliver a package on a foggy night, he quickly becomes the number one suspect when the fumes kill the man of the house.

Looking for a place to hide out, Max falsely identifies himself as a famed mountain climber and animal man to a group of elementary boy scouts and girl scouts. All the while, Daniel Stern avoids equally hapless police who simply try to match the face that was on the news. "Bushwhacked" never appears to be worthwhile until you sit down and take a look at Daniel Stern's Marty Stouffer imitation. It is one of those tapes with a plot that leaves you dissapointed, but countless one-timed gags and quips featuring everything from a grizzly bear to a police officer with his chin glued to his own steering wheel. It's no "Casanova", but Mr. Stern delivers a number of laughs...and packages. ... Read more

Stern delivers a number of laughs...and packages. ... Read more

If you like stupid humor, and you like to laugh your butt off, buy this movie. ... Read more

If you're an inline skating buff, you're in good company with Disney's made-for-television movie Brink. The story takes a backseat to some radical skating scenes that provide enough airs, grinds, and spins to satisfy the most bodacious bladers. The film's namesake is a Southern California high school teen, a.k.a. Andy Brinker (Erik von Detten of Leave It to Beaver and Escape to Witch Mountain), who lives for the love of skating. Hanging out at beachfront skate parks, Brink and his "soul skater" buddies are riding the perfect wave of summer until they collide with a group of hot wheelers led by smart-mouthed Val (Sam Horrigan). Nationally ranked champion Val and his cohorts are X-Bladz-sponsored skaters with paychecks and egos riding higher than their 540 flips. Animosity and adolescent cheap shots run deep between these rival groups until an accident lands one of the X-Bladz skaters on the sidelines. Now it's Brink's turn to try out for the open spot on the sponsored team. Yet when he joins the X-Bladz, his betrayed friends accuse him of selling out. Eventually, Brink learns the price of winning at any cost. Horrigan plays a deliciously wicked Val, and von Detten delivers a solid performance as the good son/good friend, Andy. Families will appreciate the earnest script, void of profanity and sexual innuendo. The deeper questions of loyalty and friendship are handled by way of some well-meaning platitudes, but what we've really come to see won't disappoint--impressive, edge-of-your-seat skating. --Lynn Gibson ...
