TV's favorite singing family hits the road and tops the charts onceagain with this video collection, highlighting guest appearances by the brightest stars of the 1960s, '70s, and beyond in three different episodes. "Soul Club" features Richard Pryor and an Afro-ed Louis Gossett Jr. as dashiki-clad Detroiters desperate to save their community club from a predatory loan shark. The plucky Partridges, of course, manage to save the day by filling in for absent Motown heroes the Temptations. There's dancing in the streets as Keith does his "Afro thing" and young Danny dons a beret as a member of the "Afro-American Cultural Society." In "A Man Called Snake," an alarmingly convincing Rob Reiner plays a softhearted biker who develops a crush on Laurie after Keith gives a misleading interview. Can the boys save their sister from Snake's affections...and does she really want to be saved? Finally, "I Left My Heart in Cincinnati" features brunette bombshell Mary Ann Mobley as an amusement park PR rep who unleashes an avalanche of puppy love from all the Partridge men...especially roller-coaster phobic Keith. This one features two full musical performances (eat your heart out, MTV!) and cameos by baseball legend Johnny Bench and the Banana Splits. --Grant Balfour ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fight da Powa!!! White bread style.
What up. Richard Pryor be 'bout to lose his club to da homies on Detroit's Sout Side. What be him to do? Get the Temptations to play da club and be happy. Right? Hells no. Temps ain't comin. Now what?

Leave all your worries and anxieties behind. Lil ol' Danny Partridge will solve everythang. Sheet, he coulda ended the war in 'Nam if dey let him in Wash-town.

Da Partridge family save the club in a very realistic way. Dey play their white bread music at a 70's Detroit block party to raise money. Who be wantin' the Temptations after a dose of Danny who strums a bass like a guitar?

Everything ends happy. Danny becomes an honorary member of the Black Panthers and the young militant gets on the bus sporting his new black beret to the shock of his family.

Right on brutha. Solid. Dyno-mite.

5-0 out of 5 stars A TV Classic
The reason I love this video is because it has some of the best shows from the series. There are three episodes, and each episode made me laugh so hard that tears came to my eyes and I rolled out of bed. The next day, I was still laughing.

5-0 out of 5 stars C'mon Get Happy

4-0 out of 5 stars Great - But where's the rest!
It's good to see DVD on DVD. The quality of this DVD is decent, however, I'm not sure how or why they chose the six episodes. "The Night the Roof Fell In" and "Never Name a Duck" are the two best on the DVD. I would have preferred more of the classic episodes such as Ghost of A. Chanz, or Coast to Coast Big Mouth. Looking forward to the entire 158 episode set to be released. In the mean time, this one will do!

2-0 out of 5 stars great show, poor copy
there's no question that The Dick Van Dyke Show will always be a landmark in Television Comedy. The stories and characters are as timeless today as when the show premiered 40 years ago. Our only complaint about this Canadian DVD is that the quality is not very good. It seems to be copied from 16mm prints, rather than the original film. It's also only 6 episodes. We have heard that the authorized anniversary edition of all 158 episodes is being released soon and it will be great to see DVD on DVD.

3-0 out of 5 stars Chasin' crumbs of carrots!!!
This DVD is a mere sprinkling of what the actual series has to offer it's fans. Although the quality is far better than the typical VHS copy (from cable) that we are all used to, it's still far from the quality that is possible. It is a real novelty to be able to choose what episode you want with a click from the remote, and not have to edit out commercials etc. Don't expect any extras from this DVD. There are NONE. Then again, this show has always withstood the test of time and technology by having a brilliant story performed by brilliant actors. No glitz, just glamour.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Entertainment
This show never fails to make me smile and any collection would be worth purchasing. I've heard they're going to be releasing all 100some episodes soon, but until then this is the best you can do.

4-0 out of 5 stars Oh, Rob.......
I agree with all of the reviews, in that I would like to have seen many, many more episodes. The Dick Van Dyke Show is absolutely the best way to get that "feel good" feeling. An added bonus is that I can watch it with my children and not cringe wondering what sexual inuendo will be next. The worst thing "Nick at Night" ever did was removing Dick Van Dyke from it's rosters. THIS is classic television! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Out of My Time
I'm 20 years old and hooked on Petticoat Junction. My mother got me into it a few years back and I've watched it every day and night since then. I have a huge poster adorning my wall and other great memorabilia. I recently recieved this video and absolutly loved it. Escpecially all the old commercials which I've obviously never seen before. Every eposide is new to me and it is a joy to watch. Betty Joe and Steve 4ever!

5-0 out of 5 stars memory lane
I purchased this video here on Amazon and already had these two episodes in my "classic tv collection", but having them with the commercials from when I was growing up truly brings back a whole lot of memories. Yes, you can get these two episodes else-where without commercials, but that is part of the word "CLASSIC", the commercials add that special something. And the price was great. So "Ride the little train that is rollin' down the track to the Junction......" you know the rest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Amazon forgot this info...
Anyone who is interested in Petticoat Junction videos may already have these particular episodes, which seem to be a couple of the easiest to obtain. The two (2) episodes on this tape are:

Spur Line to Shady Rest, and

Please buy my Violets.

They are plenty good, but, I bought the video without knowing what was on it. The Amazon discription leaves this data out. For $4.60, I took a chance, and as it turns out, I already have these particular episodes. You may, also.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Nostalgic Presentation
Marathon Music and Video has gotten hold of the original television masters of these two premiere episodes of the Paul Henning classic PETTICOAT JUNCTION. Part of Paul Henning's 'Hooterville Trio',which also comprised of THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES and GREEN ACRES, it told of Kate Bradley (Bea Benederet) and her three lovely daughters Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo and Betty Jo, who lived at the Shady Rest Hotel.

Also included are the original commercials that accompanied the episodes and it is a great addition to any classic television video collection. ... Read more

This sitcom collection features a double dose of 1970s TV fun--withthree episodes featuring the Partridge family singers acting alongside the sexy stars of Charlie's Angels. In "The Sound of Money," a cagey con artist (played by M*A*S*H's Colonel Potter, Harry Morgan) tries suing the family for bumping his Studebaker. Conniving Danny and Mr. Kincaid enlist blonde goddess Farrah Fawcett to help trap him, while the rest of the family take a different tack and decide to kill the con with kindness. Voluptuous Jaclyn Smith throws a curve at the suspicious siblings in "When Mother Gets Married." Desperate for a date, single mom Shirley has to fight off the demons of middle age and the depredations of her offspring when an old friend comes to town. Even freethinking Laurie's well-meaning advice does little more than contribute to the madcap romantic chaos! Finally, cute and cuddly Keith faces "Double Trouble" when he lands two dates to the same beach party. The true object of his affections, a fickle Cheryl Ladd (credited as Cheryl Stoppelmoor), has a panicky Keith mastering his romantic moves, which of course backfire hilariously. Fans of the free-love-and-fun-music decade are sure to be delighted. --Grant Balfour ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Laura and Rob tell their version of their fight ala Rashomon
"The Night the Roof Fell In" from the second season of "The Dick Van Dyke Show" is another one of those television sit com homages to Akira Kurosawa's film "Rashomon." Rob (Dick Van Dyke) and Laura (Mary Tyler Moore) each have quite different versions of the fight that sent Rob storming out of the house to sleep in the garage. The fun comes as each retells what happens to their friends. Laura sees herself as the perfect Suzy Homemaker who has to deal with Rob, the grumbling meanie, while Rob sees himself as a charming, dancing husband who has to but up with the grumbling spouse. Do not worry, because everything ends up okay in the end of this episodes which gives the two stars a chance to play off their characters. This classic sitcom episode, written by John Whedon and directed by Hal Cooper, first aired on November 21, 1962. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars BEST of the Andy Griffith Show? Get real!
Anyone who would release these three episodes and title them "The Best of the Andy Griffith Show" should have their head examined. 16 episodes of the Andy Griffith Show were released in the public domain (I don't even know how), their titles being: Barney's First Car, The Rivals, Opie and the Spoiled Kid, Rafe Hollister Sings, The Darlings are Coming, Mountain Wedding, Andy Discovers America, The Great Filling Station Robbery, Class Reunion, A Wife for Andy, The Big House, The Loaded Goat, Andy's English Valet, and of course, Dogs Dogs Dogs, High Noon in Mayberry and Aunt Bee's Medicine Man. While some of these are funny, and usually the ones most people remember the most, it's easy to forget the last three, as they aren't as hilarious as such favorites as Barney's First Car, Mountain Wedding and the Big House. -------------- Dogs Dogs Dogs is about a bunch of dogs who follow Opie back to the Mayberry Courtroom, but as an inspector is going to come examine the Mayberry Jail, Opie has to get rid of the dogs. It ends up, Barney sets them loose in a field where they can romp and play. A storm comes, and everyone worries about the dogs. They bring the dogs back and the less than amused owner comes and gets them. High Noon in Mayberry is about a man named Luke who was a former criminal coming to 'settle things' with Andy. A few years earlier, Andy had shot Luke in the leg, and that gave Luke a permanent limp. Barney gets the wrong idea about what Luke's coming there for, and thinks he's going to gun Andy down. Barney makes Otis and Gomer into deputies, and they have to watch Andy night and day. Aunt Bee's Medicine Man is about Aunt Bee being upset because her friend, who is the same age as her, has died, and feels she needs something that can restore her health. Outside, Opie is listening to a Colonel who grew up with indians. He is selling an 'elixir' that will supposedly can give a person pep and vigor. Aunt Bee buys some and invites the Colonel to dinner. As soon as she drinks the elixir, Aunt Bee is as drunk as can be. Andy is a bit suspicious as to the real intentions of the Colonel. He and Barney then find out the truth that the so called elixir has a bunch of alchohol in it. Andy then arrests the Colonel, and breaks the news to Aunt Bee. She is disappointed in the Colonel. ------------ Overall, these episodes are kind of good, but are nowhere worthy of being the best of the entire Andy Griffith Show. These aren't even the best of the public domain episodes, and that's pretty bad. The sad thing is, this is a cheaply thrown together mix of boring episodes, being called 'The Best' to get more sales. It's disrespectful of the releasers of this collection to cash in on a great 60's show just to make a few extra bucks. Pitiful, just pitiful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Barney Fife
This is classic Barney! Opie and Arnold knock a baseball through the front door or the old Rimshaw place and are too scared to go in and get it. Barney gives them a speach about how there is no such things as ghosts. Then Andy calls his bluff and sends him to retrieve the ball. Barney tricks Gomer into going with him, and when they get there, they are scared silly by noises and run back to get Andy. He takes them back to prove to them there's nothing to be afraid of. I won't give away the ending. You'll love it!
